I've read on anime news network there is gonna be a new Ah! My Goddess anime. Does anyone know if this is going to be a movie or an entire series (/me hopes it'll be like this). Does anyone know something more?

The obi on Volume 28 of the manga announces "new TV anime for Ah! Megami-sama announced! Further details on the next issue of Afternoon Magazine."
...so to clearify: "TV anime" sounds like a series, not another movie...
But sounds good though! More Skuld :) (my favorite AMG character)
more AMG in general! and maybe...PEORTH!!!!

"Obi" - that's the little paper dingus they wrap around the outer cover of tankubon? Never heard it called anything before.
I guess I could stand to see another TV series for this title. Seeing as much of Peorth as possible would definitely be a priority for me.

Yes. The one that usually are for ads. The "obi" term is actually a term that is used at used-book shops since they buy and sell used-books with "obi-tsuki" a bit higher than those without.

'bout time. But I'll believe it when I finally see her.
I heard the news at animenewsnetwork, wow, hope it'll not take too long till they release it, and i hope it will be a series(hopefully more than 5 episodes...).

yeah an entire series would be awesome, they shouldn't have any problem at all comùing up with a story seeing as the manga has over 25 volumes allready. And to all the Peorth and Skuld fans I'd like to say URD OWNZ ALL :heh: :heh:
w00t, more  Urd-sama and Peorth-sama  I hope its gonna be like 24 episodes

As to the potential length of the series, who knows. There is alot of manga
that can be covered so we can hope for something nice and atleast longer
than thirteen episodes. I doubt there will be much chance to fansub it though.
A TV series for something like Ah! Megumi-sama is bound to get licensed pretty
quickly.
I'm hoping Geneon picks up the US licence. Really liked the animation in Ah My Goddess Movie so I can't wait to watch the new TV series.

Well if they license it it is one of the few things I'll probably buy without having seen it in advance, with such a good manga as backup it is hard to screw up the anime (well not entirely true but at least they have more than enough story in order not to rush things)
Another interesting question is where the anime would start, would they start all over again or somewhere in the middle of the story (since the anime and movie have allready introduced several characters that do not show up in the first couple of manga). One possible solution is that they adjust the story so other characters experience certain events or more characters are present during events. This is the one thing they should not do at all since there are allready enough examples of how tampering with a great storyline can turn a magnificent manga in a very mediocre anime (*cough* planetes *cough*)
I think it would be best if they just leave a message of some kind saying something like "chronologically ova 2 is placed after this episode" but that will be hard as suddenly other character would be appearing in the anime that haven't been properly introduces.
Oh well long rant and it's all speculation since we seem to know close to crap right now :heh:

I don't care if it ever gets subbed, this series is an automatic must buy when its licensed for me :D

i wouldn't even consider the first 5 OVAs a "season" in the AMG! storyline...they didn't even approach MANY major plotpoints in the manga

I know there are a lot people who aren't fans of the movie, but I love it and I really think the animation in it is just so beautiful. First time I saw it I was just blown away by it. I know they can't carry off that level of detail through an entire series though.

Looks great, can't wait for it to be released :)
Now there's only two more things to get me satisfied with this year; that the AMGseries will be at least ~13 episodes, and that the rumours of a second Berserk season will get out gets real, but that doesn't belong here :D

Haha It looks like the rat from the Mini-Goddesses shorts is going to pop up in the anime, that's him giving the V sign.
Will he turn into Gabira in the new anime? :)
Finally a TV Series it's about time they did one, because this series is great, i do hope the series is AT LEAST 26 Episodes 13 Episodes is too damn short, the only problem is that now that i've seen this i am dying to see it get released :(
I wonder if they're going to make up a totally new story arc, or whether they'll reuse one of the arcs from the manga...

Unless they want as many episodes as Urusei Yatsura, they really would have to pic just a few important arcs, and that's about it.

I can imagine a lot of episodes, Ah! My Goddess is Cool and Funny as hell, i was annoyed because there were never any TV Series and i will be annoyed if they make it too short but it will all depend on the ratings most likely since there's already such huge content for them to work for, they will probably stop the anime when they see fit.
Ohh and by the way is there a release date or like when are we to expect it?

Oh, joy! Oh My Goddess or Ah My Goddess was the first anime to start my anime addiction way back when I was still in high school. I was mad when I found out that is was only a five episode OVA back then so I went out and bought the manga and so far, I'm missing two volumes. I hope they use the character in OVA's for the TV series because I never really did like the art done in the movie.
So...was confirmed! Really good news.
Tnxs for the cover and the article. :)
Ditto. Thanks for the link to the scans. I'm pretty exceited about this series. I liked the animation in the movie, so no complaints there. On some other threads people were already talking about who's going to pick it up for the R1 DVD release, because Animego and Pioneer used two different sets of voices. I could care less about that, because I'd watch it with subtitles or nothing at all. In any case, no one mentioned which subs they liked better out of the two... opinions? (Also, I'm pretty sure this will be lic. Before fansubbers even have a chance, no?)

Yeah, considereing the popularity of this show we can expect a fast license. Doesn't matter to me I intend to buy it anyway. Although I prefer to have fansubs first otherwise i'd have to wait alot longer :)
About the dubs, I watched the OVA's dubbed and I hated it, Belldandy sounded awfull. But then again I'm a dub hater :D
Heh, well I was asking about the subs. = ) The only series I've listend to the dub all the way through was Cowboy Bebop, and that's because I was bored and wanted to see how much of a difference there was between the sub and the dub. Normally I stick to subs, or raws with my few years of japanese and a dictionary at my side. I agree on the fansubs, waiting a few months knowing this is already out in Japan is painful. To be honest I'll be dling the fansubs till the dvd's are out here.

Don't you dare bash down the mini-goddesses :nono: Those freaking rocked :heh: . Hehe no offense inteded i just loved them. It's probably not gonna be like that I think we can be 99.99% sure about that. Btw for those who saw it , in the regular OVA Urd and the rat are also shown in mini format while hiding behind a vase, that was hilarious :)
as long as they show Peorth, i'll be happy :)
poor peorth REALLY got the shaft in the movie...
the Peorth vs. Belldandy "fight" would be nice to see animated :)

Anyone?
I just hope they license it as soon as possible so that we can get the DVDs quicker.
But I wonder where they will start of the series, since the movie is somewhere after volume 13 and the OAV doesn't follow the manga, but instead borrows storylines from the first volumes.
I kinda hope that they disregard the OAV and start from the begining, so there will be more room for the early fights with Mara. But then again they could just as easily start right after the OAV. But they´ll probably just put it after the movie and rework the storylines from the manga as to fit with the characters introduced in the movie.

I cant see the damned article >_ I waited to see it and I still missed it.
Someone PLEASE tell me you saved the article pictures?!
Isn't there anyone else out there who thinks that the manga series is unnecessarily lengthened for fanboy service? :( Some of the volumes are so mundane and bland that I wish the whole series can just be ended off gracefully. It's bugging me how there's no progression at all in the story o_o.. and how tons of new characters are introduced and thrown out of the picture conveniently.
The latest volume 28 even has Belldandy and Urd kissing.. -__-. Fanboy service to the extreme.

I feel the same way. I really hope that they can just disregard the ova and movie, and create a whole now series. I don't care if the storeline changes a bit as long as Balle-chan and Peorth showing in there. :heh:

so it looks like there using the same style as the movie. The art is awesome for the movie and all, but i preferred the art for the ova, even if its old. My question is: will they be using the same voice cast? i would assume so, but who knows, they might not want to do it or the makers might decide to change people. In my opinion, anyone other than Inoue Kikuko as belldandy would ruin it for me. Her voice is SOOOOOOOO perfect for the part, so i hope they dont change it.

Given the near 30 volumes of the manga there is far too much material for us to accurately guess where it will start and what it will cover.

The news I read said that they will be following the manga as closely as possible, which implies to me that theywill be starting over, since the OVA skipped a lot of stuff, and rearranged other stuff.
Also, since it doesn't seem to be posted here: currently slated for 26 episodes, and the director is on record as having said that if it's popular enough, he would like to do the entire run of the manga. I'll try to post back with my sources, but that will have to be later, since I'm not at my home PC right now.

Late September to mid-October is a big debut season, pretty much the same as in the US. I'm looking forward to Bleach and Stellvia 2, as well as Ah! Megami-sama, of course. I'm sure plenty of fans eagerly await Gundam Seed destiny, but I've never been able to dig on anything Gundam, so instead I mourn the loss of Full Metal Alchemist, who will perish to free up the time slot (j/k, I know it's ending anyway :) ).
Um, anyway, most common debut periods for anime or live: Late March to mid-April and late September to mid-October are when the major series premier. Late June to mid-July and late December to mid-January are when the short run shows (12-13 episodes) run out, and the midseason replacements will start then.
It used to be rarer that longer shows would start in the midseason periods, but in the last year, ROD TV began late summer, and Chrno Crusade started up in early December, among others, so it seems schedules are getting more chaotic. In general, though, you can count on a show to begin in one of the four debut periods.

There were the five original OVAs, one movie and a series about the adventures of the 'mini-goddesses.' This will be the first season, not the second, so enjoy it.
And hooliganj, you better check your dates for those series. R.O.D. -The TV- started Octomber 15th and Chrno Crusade started mid November, around the 21st.

:topicoff: ,but it's not my fault, for once! :D
I remembered that ep 7 of Chrno Crusade with the second OP ran right after the new year, so you must be correct on that. I also remember finding a weird discrepency on the ROD TV dates before. I know for a fact that the raws (and shortly afterward, the fansubs) hit the net the same week as FMP fumoffu, which I thought was mid summer, but the official start date for ROD is listed as being later. Maybe a cable channel got early broadcast rights, or something?
Anyway, that doesn't invalidate any of the other info. All you're saying is that ROD's official start time was within the normal debut period. Since AMG will be at least 26 episodes, it will probably debut late September to mid-October.

Personally, as long as Genshiken, School Rumble and Kujibiki Unbalance get fansubbed I'll be happy. ^^

YES!!!! After 5 (6? 7?) years there's finally a TV series! It's about time too! They absolutely must show more Peorth (but unfortunately I haven't seen much of Peorth even in the manga; she played a major role in one volume and a minor role in another volume but that's about it).

I'd say that's a good thing.
So far it is a good thing.
But if it stretches too long it will seem like Kosuke Fujishima is "beating a dead horse". I hope it doesn't come to that.
There are so many manga-only characters that I want to see animated that it isn't funny at all. Of course, besides the many filler arcs, there are many must-see ones too, so any anime series would not be bereft of material at all.
Of course, we would probably have many racing scenes to rival Initial-D as well. :heh: Especially the arc that has Megumi and later Keiichi & Belldandy racing against that motorcycle spectre..
As for a conclusion to the manga, I don't think Fujishima has a conclusive ending in mind in the first place... :heh:
The manga is still running in Japan, it´s up to vol 28 or 29 I think, Vol 19 of the translated manga is going to be released Jan 25 2005.

Not sure how October 2004 came into play. According to their latest announcement (http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/festa/sakuhin/info.html) and if I'm reading the Japanese correctly, there're TV presentations this month for, basically, information and introductions. The first is at 01:30 on October 8th (right now, actually, as I type) on TBS-i, and the other is at 03:24 on October 11th airing on TBS.
Watching about 15 minutes of the TBS-i show, it looks to be a presentation of TBS anime only. Something like one of those "give a camera crew to someone cute" type of a show - except it's three cute women wearing maid costumes; very, umm, sweet. :p Someone with a better understanding of Japanese might hear something someone had let slip, but the anime is still airing next year in 2005.
This is what's on their main page: 来年放送予定!御期待ください!!
The latest news did get pushed out on October 5th, though... :)
:topicoff: "Air" is still starting in January 2005. Not much longer, happily.
hi.. I wonder that New Ah My Goddess? wow i little heard about this.. but i hope that unlike Mini-Ah My Goddess, you know... i really curious about new series or movie or whatever.. if you know anything about this. pls tell to me :)
to be honest....I would rather have more Mini-Goddess, LOL, but a TV series of the regular would be interesting too ;)
(Note: I hate how everyone is calling it "Ah" and stuff....I know it is the jap name and all, but.....DON'T CUT OUT THE PUN >.< "OMG" 43V3R!!!)

Bah, I was disappointed with the Mini-goddesses. I gave it numerous chances but I found them unfunny. :(
I'm nutz for Belldandy though. It was also one of the earliest sub titles that I watched, so I'm partial to this series. I'm really looking forward to some of the other characters, like Banpei and Sigel, and the angels World of Elegance and Noble Scarlet. The Skuld-centered stories around the time Noble Scarlet appeared were especially good, I remember reading those multple times. :)

To celebrate the new TV "Ah Megami-sama" series, Afternoon magazine will give three figurines on September, November and January edition. The three figurines illusterate the famous scene where the three goddesses (Belldandy, Urd and Skuld) are playing musical instruments with greek-style clothings.
http://www.afternoon.co.jp/index2.html
If you are interested, I regret to say that you are too late. I have been contacting all japanese book stores in my city and all of them replied that their quotas have been fully booked. The madness has started.

I have just found out that they are making a new Oh! My Goddess TV Series! I found out in the December 2004 issue of Newtype (Cover story). I was wondering if any of you fansubbers were going to be fansubbing this anime. I think that Anime-Empire did a really good job of fansubbing the previous 5 OVAs. I'm really hoping that they are planning on fansubbing the new series! If anyone knows any information about who is going to be fansubbing this new series, or if you ARE a fansubber, then please... let me know. I'm just dying to see this new series! :D
Old news. It has been rumored since the beginning of this year, and was confirmed almost ten months ago.
Hence, I refer you to this thread:
http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=10092
I would much rather see a good end to the manga, which has been prolonged way too much without moving the story one way or another. When do they marry off Keiichi with all the goddesess roaming inside his house? Oh, yeah; and give Megumi another love potion to crown it all? :D

I've read on anime news network there is gonna be a new Ah! My Goddess anime. Does anyone know if this is going to be a movie or an entire series (/me hopes it'll be like this). Does anyone know something more?
Its gonna be an entire series.... I'm the one who posted this thread.
In the December 2004 edition of newtype, this is the cover story, i read it and it is confirmed that its a tv series. The people at AIC who created the first OVAs and movie have finished the first episode, and it seems that it has been a big success!

Any word on the length of the series or it's contents? Especially the start that is, will they redo Keichi meets Belldandy or does the show start after the OVA and movie.
Judging from the Seiyuu lists Keichio's two sempai's might get a good portion of air time too, this is very good since those two rock :D

I think the series does start from the beginning.
AMG is still running strong. I'd hate to see it end personally.
I will get a heart attack if the story ends with a cliffhanger. Something like Megumi ended up getting a wish from none other then Mara. (oy...)
I heard there is a commercial for this right now in Japan. It has clips from episode 1. Is there anybody in Japan who can record it and then upload it onto BT? :(

I think only episode 1 will be the same all over. I doubt they'll introduce Urd and Skulls in episodes 2 and 3. Most likely they'll have a few Keichi and Belldandy @ school episodes first. That is if they decide to follow the manga, Skulld doesn't get introduced fast. I do hope we have a few side stories centered around Keichi's sempai's those two are alot of fun.
Keichi tried to ask Sayako for a date.
They might be doing this to show that Keichi, prior to his meeting with Belldandy, is quite a loser, not to mention they can set up the later "relationship" between Keichi and Sayako allready.
The most important thing however is Belldandy's animation and seiyuu, those better be damn good! From the few screencaps it looks like animation wise they stay close the the OVA's which is good :D . Ah well i think this one could get licensed pretty fast (my poor wallet is getting yet another robbery for anime :heh: )

don't like the design of keiichi... He's uglier than the ovas and manga... :nono:
At first sight he looks like the Keichi from the OVA, I disliked the one from the movie. But the most important thing is that Belldandy looks very alike and she still has the same seiyuu Woohoo ! *does the happy dance*
Now i really can't wait to see this show .... :)
don't like the design of keiichi... He's uglier than the ovas and manga... :nono:
It seems to me that Belldandy also looks quite dopey. I believe it's because her eyes are drawn too high up on her face, and thus makin the lower half of her face too large. Same problem with Minamo from Wind TV I believe.
Many little squirmy complaints here.
As far as I see, the animation quality looks set to be superb. I likes.
The character design seems to be ok even if it changes a little bit from the oav and movies. I'm waiting for this series :)
But someone knows the length of this series? I don't mind if they have to introduce again the characters but if the series is short, it would be bad :(

I think the character design is pretty well done, although it looks sorta different from Fujishima Kousuke's style.
http://premium1.uploadit.org/SleeplessHeart/AMG2005_008.jpg
Although Belldandy's character design is really good, I somehow liked more of the first version of her. You know: the one in the very first manga issue. She looked so different from the regular anime characters whereas the current one is a bit... standard, meek happy-go-goddess. :hmm:
Looking good in any case, even though I doubt they NEVER finish off the serie. Keiichi has to be the least lucky bastard in world, having 4 goddesess practically in his bed and never really getting it on with anyone. :heh:
By the way, is that a gem or paint on her forehead? I have always though it is a gem (remember that ray of light in the first issue?) but now that I look at it... Ack, my fan-fic has wrong info in it if it is paint.
http://premium1.uploadit.org/SleeplessHeart/AMG2005_008.jpg
So thats from the new series?
If so (or am i missing something important), i don't think it looks all that different from the movie art.
I really hope that it isn't too long (ie. 195 episodes was suggested pages back) but not too short either (like the first series, 5 episodes) considering i really liked the first AMG. I'm looking forward to seeing more of my favourite goddess, Belldandy ^_^
in fact the character design is really different from the OAV series one. But it's almost like the movie one. But I prefer the movie character design better ! In this one, we can notice on few scans that the eyes are little bit too high (position)
I think it has been said in the previous posts.

I think it's cause of the angle, but I'd appreciate it if someone posts more screenshots of the main chars.
Bah... the movie art kicks ass. Look at the first volume of the manga and compare it to the 24th. The mangaka GREATLY refined his art. His first three volumes looked downright fugly. Well at least the Tales of Phantasia/Symphonia char designs got carried over! That's a big plus for me.
Ah! My Goddess for 2005 eh> Still think AIR is going to pwn more tho.
January is going to be one busy month: Samurai Champloo, Ah, my goddess, and AIR AIR AIR
By the way, is that a gem or paint on her forehead? I have always though it is a gem (remember that ray of light in the first issue?) but now that I look at it... Ack, my fan-fic has wrong info in it if it is paint.
I thought it was paint or some kind of tattoo--it looks flat, in the OVAs and the movie at least, where I'd expect a gem to stick out a little. Miharu in Girls Bravo had "markings" like that on her forehead too that glowed when she used her powers.
And yeah, I think the odds of Keiichi getting past second base in our lifetimes are next to zero. Still looking forward to the anime though, I can't believe it's been this long before AMG got a regular full-length TV series, as popular as it seems to be. If they animate all the manga, this could run more episodes than Urusei Yatsura...
...Which actually begs question why anyone bothered to watch it for 100+ episodes when they did not have any common plot and the quality is -by today's standards- below the line. :p

Thx alot, at least now can have a glance at how AMG will look animated :) Belldandy looked pretty good, and the Keichi was more like the one from the movie rather than the one from the OVA. Belldandy's voice was splendid :D
Edit : I just found out why : apparently the cast has remained the same as in the movie/OVA and the animation will also be done by the same people.
First episode : this thursday !!!
Is there any word on a fansub group taking this as a project?
I'd bet that not only one Fansub group will sub this one.. after all we finally get to continue one of the most popular animes. :)
I'm truly looking forward to this, regarding the fact that I've been fan of this series ever since. *looks at his wall and his maga desk and ofc his DVDs....*
The only thing that bugs me a bit is that they start all over again so possibly some of the nicer characters won't appear at all... AGAIN. (The 4 goddesses most likely will I think, but there are more than those.. *awaits Hild & Rinda* )
Let's all pray that won't happen.
*goes to pray to the goddesses*
I don't mind if they redo it again if they add episodes later :)
Even if Ah My Goddess is really famous, everyone may not know it, that's why (I think) they will begin the story from the beginning (with variation)

From the promo vid ive seen and the stuff ive read, its not a second season. Rather a complete rework starting from scratch. And all i can say is than god for that. The OVA was great, but they didnt exactly stay true to the manga hehehe.
I dont like the new voice actress for Beldandy, she just sounds weird. Personally i loved the original fom the OVA's, i also prefered the way she was drawn there aswell, seemed more tru to the manga.

Yes that's right, the animation was awesome but it was a movie, I don't think they will have the same budget for the TV series (even if I hope they will)
And I was somehow a little bit disppointed by the animation shown in the short promo (Belldandy doesn't seem so well animated) but I may be wrong (it was so short)

Anyone know of any fansub groups planning to sub AMG tv?
Personally, I dont think they did a good job drawing bell from the images I've seen. I liked the way she was drawn in the ova. I think they made her anorexic in the tv series.

Well, Geneon (Pioneer at the time) did the AMG Movie and that release was very good (my personal opinion) so we shouldn't panic about who picks it up, most major license companies are pretty good these days.
Of course for dub fans another licensor can be more troublesome, because that means that the original voice actors amy not remain and get replaced. But as I said before, no reason to panic yet, let's just enjoy the new show for now :D

No kidding... His current drawing seems fine with me. I rather have him draw his current modern style of Belldandy rather than his 1st drawing in the manga which was ugly... but most important of all, all the seiyuus from the OVA and manga are back. It would be dreadful to think someone else would voice Belldandy like the mini-series.
I'm surprised that AMG has a very late night time slot in Japan. I thought this is one of the classics. Or is it more popular in the rest of the world than in Japan? Everybody will be setting their DVRs, I guess.
Regarding the promo, some things about it weren't as I imagined, but I guess 20 seconds isn't enough to come to a definitive conclusion. ;)
I think the drawing is definitively different from the manga, OAV and the movie. I have watched them all, it's almost like the movie and the lastest manga but it's not really the same, the eyes of Belldandy are too high on the face. Except that, it's ok

You guys, I do believe they are supposed to follow the manga very closely. And from what I see of the manga, there is enough information in one chapter to make one episodes. Skuld doesn't appear until around chapter 35-40, so it'll take a while before they have her show up.
I hope that they will conclude the manga soon. I've been a huge - really huge - A!MG fan up to manga volume 20. But recently, the manga isn't progressing, it's clearly REGRESSING. There are no lasting developments anymore. Belldandy and Keiichi were closer in volume 3 than they are now in volume 29. And frankly, I'm growing bored.
I pray that they will use the anime as a way to FINISH the main storyline. I'm afraid that they won't, but they should.
... but most important of all, all the seiyuus from the OVA and manga are back. It would be dreadful to think someone else would voice Belldandy like the mini-series.
Uh, I'm 100% sure Belldandy has always had the same seiyuu, and I don't think she really needed one for the manga... :twitch:
As for dubs, well really, who cares about them? :) Anyone who tries to compete with Inoue Kikuko pretty much loses automatically.

25 and 26 are out. I loved these episodes, they are now one of my most favorite of the series. Don't miss them!
Everything is back to normal but the Yggdrasil is still malfunctioned so Urd turns into a kid. So she goes on her own little adventure and meets this boy. Through their friendship the boy falls in love with Urd. It's a really sweet episode because we can see Urd's loving side.

It's a mystery, but the magic 8-ball says "It seems likely."

Well, Kodansha and AnimeWorks have already released the Series box, which is big enough for 6 DVDs - and Volume 4 is due out March 28th (eps. 15-18). You'll probably have to wait until July for Volume 6.
I've heard a rumor about an Ah! My Goddess Christmas special coming out. Anybody hear anything about this?
Imagine:

No idea. Latest word I've heard on any AMG projects was the addition of the second season (and that's been weeks ago). I would think a Xmas special release would have been mentioned more. But then I miss a lot of info even shows I like.

Yup, it's known as the AMG Special DVD. Comes with two new episodes plus the special that aired on TV.

I just got into watching this series after years of resisting
the idea that this guy would just have this beautiful girl stay
with him and eventually be his magical girlfriend.
It's sort of a suckers' dream - it doesn't happen in real life.
I watched a lot of other stuff and finally got around to watching it.
When Belldandy showed up on the screen with her huge
blue eyes and that voice I was totally suckered in. Part of
it was the voice actress and you have to admit that she's
drawn to look as physically appealing as possible and she's
impossibly kind and wow, she actually seems to like our hero
despite the fact that he's portrayed as a loser with the
ladies even though he's really about as normal as you can
get, just inexperienced.
I shouldn't have resisted. It's a cute story and though there's
parts where I want to give Kei a good kick in the pants (women
have complained that I was slow to act romantically but Kei gets
the #1 all time frozen-in-fear-can't-make-a-move romantic-lead
award but you figure Belldandy (or her older sister) would
have attacked him out of boredom by now made made him
their official boy toy).
I watched the 5 part OVA and that had a faster pace and it
seemed that he wasn't as fearful to act and then I watched
the recent series and I kind of put two and two together.
Once they get together for real there's no real point for the
series to go on - they either show the threat of her leaving
him and going back to the heavens or they have her stay but
things don't get too serious.
I thought of some possible alternative plot - Belldandy & her
sisters leave and Keiichi is left with the confidence to approach
a real woman due to his experiences but this show doesn't
seem to take that harder tragic edge too much so I don't
think we'll see that.
But there are all kinds of places they could take the show -
can a human and a goddess have a physical relationship?
If they do, then what? Skuld won't be "12" forever. And
her older sister seems a bit too interested in seeing BellD
and Kei get together - is she a voyeur or does she kind of
like him too? And why are they all so interested in hanging
around with this self-admitted loser guy when they're all
stunningly beautiful. Well, that's part of the attraction to
the show - you have good hearted Keiichi and the women
hanging about.
And what about Megumi - what happens with her? She's
an interesting character. And the woman who turned Kei
down? The rich brunette (I forget her name).
And some of what I call "payback episodes" are things that
any dumped guy would dream of - walking by the woman who
rejected you with this goddess on your arm.
But what was funny was how attached BellD got to Keiichi
with time. So I look forward to a second series to see what
happens.
I should probably just check out the first dozen or two
issues of the manga. I hear the author is kind of spinning his
wheels - it does seem as if his idea is to keep Kei perpetually
on the edge of any success with this woman. I suppose it
is to allow the audience to identify more with their hero as
the audience for the show really is single younger guys.
Still, I look forward to what comes next.

I suppose I should take the time to mention the OVAs for season one
that have appeared concurrent with the conclusion of season two's
ending.
TBS aired the previously unaired episodes 25 and 26 from the first season
DVD on September 21 and 28 - the best guess is that the ending episodes
for season two beyond what was aired will be released on DVD at some point
as a bonus for the fans buying the season two DVD sets.
Anyway, with regards to 25/26: The two episodes are connected and
are essentially two halves of the same story and I actually enjoyed
these two as much if not more than most of season two.
Read on if you want to have synopsis of these:
25 - Urd temporarily becomes a child about Skuld's age and befriends a young boy
and she learns to re-experience the joy of childhood again albeit temporarily. It's
a bittersweet experience as she soon finds out.
26 - Skuld becomes an adult about Urd's age and experiences the joys
and pitfalls of adulthood and finds herself in a situation where she is over
her head and requires the assistance of an unlikely ally to help her out
who she soon develops feelings for.
During both of these episodes, Belldandy develops a new and unusual
aspect to her that no-one has seen before which is rather amusing
although "underdeveloped" (I kill myself!).
I first got into this series after visiting my local library, and saw some very well used manga of this series, and wondered what they were on about? But I took the four they had and when I got home I started to read them (all of them in one session!), and found myself laughing, crying, and cursing as I continued to read each one. Though my daughter thought I was losing my mind!!
But when I had finished, I wondered if there were any more to be had to this and after searching the net and asking at my local library, I was shocked that New Zealand was so far behind the rest of the world in regards to this series. And so began my love affair with Belldandy, Urd, and all the rest of the gang, and today I'm not only read the most current of the manga but have collected the first 5 volumes of series one on DVD! New Zealand may be abit behind of the rest of the universe, but thats not going to stop this monkey of having his goddess and wine at the same time.
And the movie was one great introduction to the series, but wish there was more to it, thats just my 10 cents rant!!
Well take care all and enjoy the new year.

SECOND SERIES ALREADY!!
Man aren't we so far behind downunder!! Currently I think we are only up to the fifth DVD of series one, why can't we get more up to date with the rest of you lot? :upset:
But I hope the series is just as entertaining as the first one, I've only collected up to the forth DVD and just saving up for the rest. That's okay I guess it just gives me time to spend on building my Gundams or re-watching the first three and the movie while waiting, at least I've got my daughter to boss around! Its fun being a parent! :D
Didn't really expect a second seasons of this.... Though the music doesn't appeal much to me but I kinda like the storyline of this ... :)
Do you sometimes get the thing that you want to watch the first episode....but then are watching the first ep of the SECOND season XD....desu....nice show chaps, desu

Well, AMG certainly doesn't set out to give anyone an adrenaline rush. However, it's supposed to be one of the series you're supposed to relax to and sometimes have that "Awwwwwwww" reaction.

I am kinda glad this anime doesn't take itself too seriously. You can just watch it and enjoy it for it is without worrying about whether any big misfortune will fall on them.
Anyway, I have to catch the OVA, I seem to have missed out on it somewhere.
Gonna start the 2nd season soon, I hope it gets somewhere.

Ep 19 season one? Which was that again?
Both seasons were good but I liked the second one better, what with Hild being there, and the absolutely hilarious ep 24. I'm just wondering how they'll translate that because Korosuki has suki in it, but kill has no love in it.

ok i'm a little confused. the new thin pack box in the stores released by MEDIA BLASTERS/anime works, is the first TV series, the exact same episodes as as the blue box that was released a year or two ago, right?
and now ADV has released season 2 in a red box that looks very similar to the blue box media blaster released the other year, right? or did ADV release a blue box previously and the license was picked up by media blasters recently?
There is no 'long lost TV series' between the OVA's of 10 years ago and the TV series of the last two years, right?

Ah! My Goddess 2nd Season was licensed by ADV Films
They maintained the boxset style from the first season so it looks the same (what you call the "red box").
So far the complete boxset of season 2 hasn't been released yet, only the first 4 DVDs have been released after all. The last two DVDs will be released in the next couple of months. A box was made available with the second DVD, and that box is of the same style used by Media Blasters for the 1st Season.
Ah! My Goddess Season 2, Vol. 2 with Box (http://www.dvdpacific.com/item.asp?ID=800509)
There are no "long lost TV series" episodes between the OVA and the new TV series of the last two years. The OVA, the 2 TV series and the Movie are all that have been released in the U.S. In Japan there is the new 2 ep TV special that has just been released. There is also the "Adventures of Mini-Goddess" as well.
the whole season was great.. Especially episode 19 heheh. Man, how I wish I was Keiichi in that episode :'(.. continuing, season 1 really just showed a development in Bell's and K-ichi's relationship, I really enjoyed it. Right now waitin for season 3.
Long Live AMG....
Lets us all pray hard that Kosuke-san will still continue his marvellous drawing and support for AMG. Its been 20yrs now since AMG was introduced, lets hope it will last even longer and one day I can proudly show it to my children that this was the anime of all anime that I really loved
I vote for AMG season 3 ...

As opposedto, say, some never ending shounen fighting series?
Obviously, AMG was not to your tastes, but that hardly makes your tastes for it a universal truth. Given the popularity of both the anime and manga, I think there are obviously lots of people (including me) who disagree. :p

You know, we all have our own perspectives. If you don't like it then I respect that, but why in the world do you have to make your opinion absolute? You have no right to deem what I think as "something that stinks". You may have animes you favour but I find them revolting and that they "stink", does that mean they are really revolting and stinky? I think not.
Next time you plan on critising someone else's opinion, please DO think it over in your head before you post. If you really have an urge to post and tell the world what you think, perhaps you should write a WELL-CONSTRUCTED analysis on why you think the anime "stinks". "oh, basically, this anime stinks" will not cut it.
hmm....it stinks...i know the true hurts...but its the true. Ah! My Goddess animation ended in 2001 with the movie...the rest is 100% redundant.

That's actually kind of sad, that not only did you sit through two seasons of anime that you did not even like, but now you are wasting your time hanging out in a forum full of people who actually did like the series, just to tell us over and over how much you didn't.

Actually I agree that Keiichi Belldandy should move on to the next level, its kind of frustrating, perhaps marriage or an engagement.
However neither the Manga or the Anime stink. It's sweet romantic in a way and enjoyable.
If it stinks, then its probably because you may be a philistine.

Sounds like you really wasted your time then, if out of all the AMG anime all you liked was the first OVA and the movie.

Different strokes for different folks, as they say. Personally, I though the character designs for Belldandy, Urd, etc. were much better in the TV series than the old OVA, and the relationship between Belldandy and Keiichi was developed much better, too.
Really, you might as well give as well give it up, nekowai. You're not convincing anyone here that the AMG! TV series wasn't any good. :p

I finally was able to finish AMG season one today... I bought the box set way back in April, and just never had the chance to watch it.
In any case, this was one of the first anime I ever got into back in the day, and it's always been special to me. I really do think that the art style had improved significantly for the TV series. Not to say that the OVAs were ugly or anything, but I think the new series has an advantage over the OVAs.
The story was very cute. The characters were developed very nicely, and although it was frustrating to see them hardly get anywhere relationship-wise, well, that seems to be something that just goes along with the genre. All in all, it was very cute and left me with that fuzzy feeling by the end of it.
I haven't read much of the manga, but from what I've heard, if you've read the manga you won't see anything new in the anime. Hopefully I can see season 2 soon! Just wanted to gush a bit about the series...

I own the collection of season one but I have to get the collection of the second series. I thought that the series was really cute and enjoyable. Although it took a while for Belldandy and Keichi's relationship to really get anywhere, it was a fun series to watch. With Urd trying to push their relationship along and Skuld trying to destroy it, it made the series a whole lot funnier!:heehee:

lol Bells and K's relationship never goes anywhere. Thats one of the frustrating points of this series. After years and years, they're barely holding hands, and you can count the times they've kissed on one hand. The day it ever goes any further than a kiss is probably when fans across the world have a coronary from the shock heheh

Them being so hesitant to do ANYTHING, Keiichi in particular, made the final scene just that much more gratifying, for me. :) Sure, it was irritating as hell to see them get nowhere, but I enjoyed the series anyway.

The first series of Ah! My Goddess was great. After the first time the series, Oh! My Goddess appeared, I didn't think they were going to make a remake. I even remember the Oh! My Goddess movie with the Belldandy losing her memories and captured by her old teacher, Celestin. Man, that was classic. Those were good times.

This serie is the best ever in my book, nothing compares to it for its genre. The music is sublime and a dream for my ears, and the characters are very charming, all of them. The beautiful drawings and the animation style suits this masterpiece like no others.

Kleo--I agree that episode 22 was dark and about as emotionally painful as watching someone stomp on puppies for 22 minutes. However, the ending really got me to notice that Hild actually WON. Belldandy had given up and her rage was taking over. Hild had used B's jealousy against her and she was going to go over to the other side, but Keiichi stepped in and interrupted her anger. I've always thought that Belldandy was always too willing (more so in the manga) to deal with Hild on a personal basis, rather than just avoiding her--kinda like playing with dynamite. Hild is smart, powerful, and dedicated to her job. Bel is sweet, loving, and rarely able to push back in the 2nd season. Ep 22 was not my favorite by far, but it was the one that gave me the most to think about.

I'm just a fan of the AMG manga, so I strongly dislike most of anime-only inventions. Ep 22 was one of such things. And besides being totally out of AMG-verse, it had a lot of plot holes.

My introduction to the series was through the anime, so my preferences tend to have that bias. I can see how the deviation from the manga gets frustrating. At least there aren't three unrelated tellings, like Tenchi Muyo. I've read about 40 of the AMG manga so far, and I was surprised at how well they were adapted to the anime. Changes here and there, of course, but overall a good retelling. Not to mention the advantage of the drawing continuity that comes from not being stretched out over 20 years.
Now I'm getting into the manga, but the voices in my head as I read it will always match the anime. The manga can only draw out how important music is to the story, but the anime let you listen. I hope they eventually come up with a third season--maybe incorporating the parents or the racing queen arcs.
i get the feeling that there is not enough manpower behind animes to keep up with the pace we watch them >.< So many good animes were left unfinished, with a very slim chance of any production company to pick them up again =(

Ever been tempted to make non-canon cosplay-type no-budget movies to continue one of those discontinued lines? I've thought that it could be fun.
There's a lady at my bank with natural red hair down to her calves. What live-action version of an anime couldn't use an actress like that?

Oh Damn you r right :/
I was too excited that i didn't pay attention to the Date, but yeah at this point you start loosing hope for a new season, because usually if there is any plans for a new season it is being confirmed much sooner and there was no word about a new season for like 1 year...

It's unlikely to be this year, and probably not next year either, there's no financial backing for it.
If we do get a season 3 it's probably not going to be untill 2010 or later. We may get an OVA if we're lucky, but as i said there's no backing. Also several of the VA's are on leave from VAing for a time, Touma Yumi is the most notable. She's taking time out from VAing to work on a series of AMG novels. They could change the VA for Urd, but that would open a whole can of worms, so they'll probably hold off until the cast is all set, and they have the financial backing.
Also look at how long it took them to go from the first OVA to the Movie and then to the series. :)
Kleo Scanti
2008-10-02, 01:52
I don't think she would refuse to be Urd's VA because of writing AMG novel, that would be senseless. She worked on the character from the very beginning, even Kikuko had put less effort into Bell (being replaced by another actress in Mini-Goddesses) than Yumi into Urd.
We have a chance to get an OVA or a movie, and I hope for the third season in the second half of the next year, but not sooner.
Tiamat's Disciple
2008-10-02, 06:10
She may not refuse, but she has officially taken a leave of absence to work on the novels, so she probably wont be asked. I'm not denying the work she's put in, all of the goddess have put a hell of a lot of work into it.
Apparently the next novel in the AMG series is due for release in november/december next year. Thats why i doubt we'll get another series untill 2010.
OVA's i don't really want, they have to much of a filler feel, and like the last one don't do the story justice and leave so much left out. A movie would be cool, especially if they did First End as a movie, or hell that's one they could easily adapt into an OVa and do it well

Hello All,
I'm trying to remember something from both the TV anime and the manga. In the TV anime, the goddesses are shown with wings during the opening credits. I can't remember if they are ever shown with only wings in the anime, or if wings are only shown attached to angels. Can someone jog my memory?
And with the manga, the first time the angels show up is during Peorth's first visit. I remember that. I also remember that the goddesses are shown with wings when K1's parents visit, when Sora is in the go-cart race, and when Sentaro is moving. Does anyone know of any earlier issues with the goddesses showing wings? Even if it's just on the cover, can someone point me to the first time they show up that way?
Thanks.

In the anime (both TV seasons and the Fighting Wings special), the only place the goddesses are shown with wings are in during the opening. Otherwise its only their angels that have wings.
All my manga are still packed away from moving recently, so I can't answer the other question.

A!MG is one of my all time favorite shows.
However, when I started watching the new series, I could have sworn that the subtitles said something like "Oh God no!" as Belldandy's reaction to Keichi's wish. Was AnimeYuki/AnimeOne wrong on that or was Belldandy really against the idea of being trapped on earth with K1?

I wondered about that too... but she seems pretty resigned to that fact just a few seconds later.
Perhaps she was jus truly there for her 'job' and while knowing about Keiichi's character that allowed him to be granted a wish, she didn't know much about him personally. So perhaps her incredibly good natured personality makes her accept the new position she is in and over time she gets to know and like Keiichi more.

Why is that so surprising? Wouldn't you be against the idea of being trapped in an unknown place with a complete stranger for many years? TV series has no connection with the older OVA series, Bell actually saw K1 for the first time, they've never met in childhood.

You could probably put it down to the shock of the moment just throwing her off.
She is kind of hard to read as a person since she is *always* shown as cheerful, helpful and accepting. But you could draw the conclusion that her views on Keiichi changed over time with the moments where jealousy starts to show through in her personality. Though I doubt that's the case (her changing over time) as it doesn't really fit with the intent of the story and her own internal monologue (barely a couple episodes/chapters in).
To be honest she's kinda scary! There is a few times where you could swear she's furious or something, I dunno theres a few scenes when she's closing a door and shes shown with this look on her face which makes the whole scene kinda scary. All she needs is a knife and you'd think you've wandered into the complete wrong genre.

have to agree its is quite a massive fail to make a goddess angry at you. but ive always thought Belldanady got mad a majority of the time due to the circumstances between her and Keichi (there were also some other ones as well. another reason i thought was that Belldandy after being a Goddess for so long and not feeling emotional attachments to anyone but her sisters is all of a sudden she is put in this new environment and start experiencing all these new things and emotions and she gets frustrated at times because she isnt sure how to deal with them all. especially when situations involve K1 and other women.

Was watching the series again for something to do, and one thing they did get right was the music. Intro songs were pretty good, although I liked the second season one better then the first. The stuff near the end of the first season (Lord of Terror) is quite awesome for battle music.
Speaking of the LoT. There was a part with Keichi when Keichi was first infected with the LoT, he pulls a face that's like raep-face-of-evil was quite amusing, I had to watching it couple times because its so out of character (Keichi as LoT in general is pretty damn hilarious in general "All right its time to start cutting, Demon World here we come!").
