(Can't they use Alchemy to rebuild the Freedom Gundam??? :heh:)
That was actually quite good, if far too short.
Even as short as it was that was probably more worth seeing than the special editions were.

I watched the RAW and since I don't understand a word they are saying it really doesn't have much of an effect on me
I just saw the translated version, its good but way too short. Its kinda pointless in a way since its so short, but i guess this is proof to all the idiots out there that said Kira died in the last episode.....
What i want to see is a special Kira/Lacus ^^.
I felt this special just left it even more open for another season -.-
Ok now I'm confused. I thought the 5 minutes of extra footage was in the two specials? Why do they have to make this so damn confusing? Anyways what I saw was called:
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Special Edition Part 1 RAW
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Special Edition Part 2 RAW
Which were each a little longer than 45 minutes. I don't know if I saw any new footage in there or not, oh except Fllay's boobies saw those! But it was nice to relive GS, even for a little while. Anyways, thanks for the pics HaRoRuleZ. Damnit, how much longer till the US comes out with the DVDs? :frustrated: A friend of a friend of mine imported the Japanese ones which he said had English subtitles (but there were a lot of grammatical errors...). Well I'll just hope that there is a GS2 and that we can all get back together on a brand new Gundam Seed forum here :)

It's not too difficult - the "special editions" were parts 1-2 of a compilation/recap of the entire series, and include some new scenes, music, etc.
This post refers to a five minute short piece that came with the final SEED dvd in Japan and takes place after episode 50. It's entirely new.
The US dvds won't be that far away. The show starts on Cartoon Network next month, so at most the dvds would be a couple of months after that.
All it did was provide some closure (lame if you want to say so) that Kira is alive, and that the four are alive living together somewhere. And that Yzak is still on PLANT. It was worth adding, even if nothing happened in it.
At least it's not open ended, like so what happened after the war...or whatever.
Yeah, it seemed like 5 min that showed that it was pretty much all over, and that all the plot lines had ended pretty solidly.

I wonder why Cagalli and Athurun were sitting next to each other but Kira and Lacus were seperated by that kid. I could be just reading too far into it but anime tends to leave small hints such as that.
Edit: Spelling

I noticed that too. Maybe the kid is trying to pimp Lacus and was trying to seperate her from Kira? :heh: That is really stange though, I want to know why that kid was there! They couldn't....maybe they adopted the kid or something? OMG now there is GS2 for sure!!! :eyespin:

:hmm: Athrun came with Cagalli in Orb's helicopter which implies that he was staying in Orb after the war in contrast to Dearka who went back to ZAFT army. So there is no doubt about Athrun-Cagalli relationship. But it seems that Kira still had no further romance development with Lacus yet... If a flash of Fllay had appeared for a second that would have indicated well enough.
calgary?! O_o
anyways, to me the ova was nothing impressive ^^;;;;;

What about Dearka's woman Milleria or something you see her crying. Also what about Mwu he's still alive right?!?!?!?! :twitch: There was no shattered bloody purple helmet floating away from the busted up strike gundam in episode 49 or anything. But more importantly what kind of laundry dergent does Cagalli use, that tank top has been through alot.
Back on track if Seed 2 is about Kira you know he is going to have shell shock, and I don't think anyone here wants to see a repeat of all the Aumoro Ray crap. I think it would be better off with 08th MS Team type spin offs with kira preasent, but in the back ground playing the part of the hero everyone looks up to or don't believe is true. It would be cool it they followed that Julie girl and her team.
One last thing Seed 2 needs to be more like 08 MS Team as far as MS damage. It reminded me too much of Wing where the suit only took damage when it was 100% destroyed.

After-Phase answers one frequently asked question that the relationship between Miriallia flopped (she was still starring at her picture with Tolle and Dearka was not there).
Mwu was vaporized (taking a beam that could sink a battleship what could be left), no question asked. I like the scene of transparent Mwu very much. It was sad:sad: but a good reminder of his cheerfulness.
Honestly i think that After-Phase looked more like an introduction to new series, i mean all we've seen was trouble, Kira was still shaken(thank god Lacus is with him), Cagalli and Athrun were on Orb which seems to continue full of problems, and the conversations between Plant and Earth aren't going so well and can possible escalate to another war, so in my opinion Afther-Phase didn't served any purpose except reinforce what we already knew and create more questions on our mind.

Gundam X is the only Gundam series that isn't out on DVD's in Japan yet... Until it is I doubt Bandai Entertainment would do anything with it (since they don't have DVD sources to work from).

They will release it eventually, but since Gundam X was a flop over here it'll take time to be out. Of course, if you really want it, the LaserDisc versions of X is out for quite sometime. Bought mine at a used LD shop for 13,000 yen two years ago.

Yeah, the LD's came out when the VHS came out I believe. I guess that's good enough for a DVD source (those are the source of the bootleg DVD's I believe), but I think Bandai would release something that's out on DVD's first before releasing that.
Anyway, I think that will be the next Gundam to be released on DVD (since its the last one). Sunrise just finished Victory Gundam last month and since they've pretty much been releasing all the series consistently ever since Turn A's came out in 2000 I think it won't be long before X gets released.

Yes, Victory Gundam did better than Gundam X rating-wise, even before Gundam X moved to a horrible timeslot. But Turn A has been the worse performing Gundam ever (the only reason why X got a worse rating than that one did was because it was moved to a 6:00 am timeslot). But since it's Tomino-directed, it gets certain immunities like the fact that it won't get cancelled... Plus DVDs were getting popular right about the time Turn A aired (1999~2000) which is why they started releasing Gundam DVDs with Turn A.
However Turn A is a very good series actually. And once you get used to the Turn A's unorthodox design you'll probably be impressed by how unique it looks and animates. Also there were quite a few diehard Japanese fans for Turn A when that one first aired... Which is something that X didn't really have unfortunately.

Turn A Gundam is very good if you like some nice story and unique style. It's definitely my favorite AU Gundam. However if you want something along the line of Wing, you most likely won't like TA.
Speaking of Gundam X, the weird thing is that one of my vocational school field trips. I picked up this poster, which resembled MS Gundam X - After War. And it featured the 5 pilots that piloted X, Astray, Air Master etc...

Bandai could at least put it in a video game like Gundam Battle Assualt or even better a PS2 game. Or to bring us even further off-topic a Xbox live game with downloadable Gundams. BOOYA I would buy 2 copies.

Wha? Are you sure you weren't looking at a Gundam Wing poster? There are 3 "main" Gundams in X (four later on but they are never pictured together). The Astray is from Gundam Seed.

Well I've seen many many theories (some which are downright false like that Evangelion one). But I still don't know exactly why it bombed so badly. Probably a combination of the slow storytelling in the beginning of the series, the relatively unattractive character design, the relatively narrow audience the show was aimed for (compard to Wing), the multiple references to the OYW which many people by then didn't care for, the overshadowing Wing which was still very popular when X was being aired, etc. But indeed Bandai seemed to have learned their lessons after this and decided to let a Gundam AU die down first before starting up another totally different one.
Turn A Gundam wasn't commercially that succesful, I think. It doesn't have enough crowd pleasers to be a hit among generel fans, and veteran gundam fans detested the designs at first. Seem like it did ok in the end at least, seeing as it got movies (which are crap, btw) and all.
TAG is an excellent series, in any case. :heh:
Turn A Gundam is overrated, and throws in a ridiculous theory. (Big Bang)
It's nothing like any of the previous Gundam stories, and the story (and characters) is lame and boring.
Mecha action? Hah, what mecha action.
And no, I'm not a Wing(er) with a pension for action. My favorite series is the original Gundam, I just really didnt like TAG.
Turn A Gundam is overrated, and throws in a ridiculous theory. (Big Bang)
Dunno about overrated, but the 'big bang theory' is completely fan made. If you really want to analyze the images taken from older gundam series as anymore than fluff content, I'd say they're Tomino's nod to his older shows (not just gundam shows) that were alot darker and proposed violence as a solution to violence. TAG is alot more pacifist in this manner (same with OKG, the show he made after TAG), hence he'd call the older stuff "Black History". ;)

No. Tomino and others have time and time again confirmed what is the idea behind the "Turn A Bang" theory. He's said that Turn A is meant to unite all of Gundam (that's the whole meaning of the Turn A symbol), and to eliminate the idea of the Alternate Universe (which is why the Turn A timeline lacks a typical Gundam timeline "name", instead the year is placed in what is translated as the "Correct Century"--merely a way of saying that this is the true timeline)
So it's not fan-made.

Where? I've never read him saying that. The majority of gundam fans 'in-the-know' (that is, people who follow Japan's news&rumors on gundam and so on) don't seem to sign this theory either (not that I've taken polls or anything :P ).

The big band theory aside, I always had the impression that Turn A meant that the meaning of the machine was turned upside down (from a machine of destruction to peace-keeping) while Turn X can't change.

He is frequently quoted as saying such. For example in issue 1 of Newtype USA whch has an article featuring SEED. And it is mentioned what Turn A is meant to do there. Also in a recent interview with Fukuda he mentioned Tomino being upset about SEED because they made another AU right after he "united all of the AU's". That's all I can think of for now, but I happen to be one of the people who follows Japan's news & rumors on Gundam after all ;)

In logic notation, "∀" is the "universal qualifier"... So literally "∀ Gundam" means "For all Gundam". Therefore the meaning behind this is that it "unifies" Gundam. What you stated is the meaning behind "Turn X", since Turn A, E, F, G, J, L, M, etc would all have that same idea anyway.

I think we need to make it clear what both of us mean by 'Big Bang Theory' at this point ;)
The BBT I keep hearing about says that TAG means to actually combine all the timelines, meaning everything happened in the past of TAG. This is also the one I'm talking about.
I think it's quite obvious to anyone who's seen TAG that it tries to draw some kind of symbolism between the past Gundam series' as a whole, and itself. Like I said, my view of this was that Tomino makes them the "Black History" and TAG the new, 'brighter', Gundam; but it does not try to imply that all the settings/timelines are connected somehow.
As to actually answering your post...
You might be referring to an interview that can be found (a translation of it anyways) here (http://aeug.blogspot.com/2003_11_01_aeug_archive.html):
Q: Any SEED production stories?
A: The plan was set in August. The plan went to Mr. Tomino in December. When I was working on SEED, the president told me, "Mr. Tomino won't be involved." The president told me to go greet him anyway so I visited him during the New Year's holiday. Tomino was enraged, "I made Turn A to unify Gundam!" He later said, "Don't trust Bandai" and recommended the book "Cure of Turn A".
I think Fukuda gives alot of interviews like this, so he might as well have said it in some other one.
If your a proponent of the BBT as I described it, then I'd say you're reading too much into it.

If your a proponent of the BBT as I described it, then I'd say you're reading too much into it.
Excerpt from the Newtype article that I referred to:
"I'd like people to watch this with Gundam: Turn A in mind," said director Yoshiyuki Tomino to Fumikuni Furusawa, producer for the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.
"With Turn A, director Tomino set forth the concept of collecting all the Gundam apocrypha into one single story," Furusawa went on to say. "That being the case, our story becomes one more part of that apocrypha. What we have to do is plant the 'seed' of our story in the context of that history and have it grow into an excellent piece of work that won't soon be forgotten."
From Newtype USA 1, page 11

That's the one I am talking about, and that should pretty much be what Tomino means by "unifying Gundam".

Apocrypha, huh. Couldn't he have picked up a more confusing word. :twitch:
Seems like all the official quotes are like that, using wacky terms but not saying what they mean in effect. I'd say I still stand by my earlier claim that if there's a unification, it's a thematical one, not a concrete one.

In any case, I think that thread pretty well shows what I dislike about the BBT... Using rumors and half-canon to try to fit all the timelines together, concretely.

In any case, I think that thread pretty well shows what I dislike about the BBT... Using rumors and half-canon to try to fit all the timelines together, concretely.
Yeah Mark064 happens to be a big fan of Turn A too, and he seems to know quite a bit about it. Of course, since Tomino left this wide open at the end of Turn A, I don't think you can blame people for using rumors and "half-canon". The same applies to the whole Newtype theory in UC after all. It was full of "half-canon" back in those days too.
But anyway, even Mark Simmons (if he's the one who wrote the descriptions) partially acknowledges the Bang theory on Gundamofficial (though it's dismissed as "confusing" I think). So there we go. And the Newtype article's just a translated version... I'm thinking that the original Japanese article would be a bit clearer, but since I've never seen it, I have no idea.

Yeah, but he doesn't know Japanese and I do, so me > Mark. :fingers: :joke:

True. There was a couple of straight mentions about newtypes here and there (as in something like "newtypes are blah blah"), but nothing conclusive, IIRC.
Anyways, my point was that the BBT is mostly fan made (ok, so I did say 'completely' :> ). If the director leaves something open in the series, it generally means there's no point in trying to analyze it further...

I don't think the BBT is fan-made, Tomino himself half-admitted it in the interview mentioned above, and the Black History records shown in the series itself has various scenes from the previous Gundam series. And "Black History" is not just a "thematical" history for TAG, in the anime the Black History record is the record of the real past history of the TAG universe.

Turn-A unifying the series and having other series events as historical fact in it's past is not in dispute. It's something that is not defined and is meant to be taken at face value.
The Turn-A Bang Theory, where people overanalyse and try to invent some kind of timeline and order in which the series supposedly occur is completely fanmade and misses the point totally.

Yup exactly. I am definitely NOT a proponent of trying to find some kind of timeline to fit all the Gundams in (IMO that would take away from each timeline if they are set in stone like that). The fact that the different universes are united is all that I am really concerned about.
BTW how did a topic about the SEED OVA evolved into a topic about the Turn A Bang theory?
