Sliver haired Flatchest whose operation went wrong and is also a Tsundere.
Thank to her hair that I did go and look up her information :heh:.
The other I could remember are Kimi, P-01 and Aoi Toori, due to the poster above you, lol.
Ok, now that some decent subs came out I finally got around to watch it. First, the good points:
-MC is very likable
-Lots of movement/variety during the fight scenes.
-Character variety is insane. We got slimes, angels, ninjas, incubus, dragon mechas. Everything is packed here.
-The OST is surprisingly good, I already like +3 bgm plus the angel girls fight theme.
Now the bad:
-Basic setting/storyline seems kinda convulted and this first episode didn't really explain a lot because most of the time was spent in the mock battle.
-Both main leads got quite low amount of screentime, especially P-01s.

Lol, embarrassing, but it looks like I got the wrong person :heh:
That's not her :heh:
Watched it twice cause I liked it that much. Tori did not disappoint at all. I knew I would like him the moment I saw DAT GRIN and his voice actor. Feels like a while since I've heard FukuJun voice a character like this and boy does it feel good. First episode did well to introduce the humungous cast and their quirks but unfortunately not their names :heh:. Those'll take a while to remember so it's good that their designs range from distinct to unforgettably unique. The battles were really entertaining to watch and well produced plus the awesome music makes them even better. Intoductions out of the way, I'm waiting for Tori to approach P-01s and get the story going.
Oh, and I absolutely love Chiwa Saito as Kimi-nee. Love her performance so much.

I think the production team is taking approach to the character, character traits and their fighting skills for episode one
it's like introduction to the main cast (musashi's students)
The iDOLM@STER episode 1 took similar approach and explain everything later
Maahhh~ In any case, I couldn't care less with the setting for now- I'm trying to learn the names of all the classmates :eyespin: The only ones I've remembered are Kimi and Renji, everybody else I refer to their class or physical appearance.

If you want a few hilarious translations, go to the official site: http://genesis-horizon.net/
Run the characters page through Google Translate.
Here are some examples that had me laughing:
* Oh Heidi Squatting Valor - The blonde girl who innocently asked if Tori's touching the Sensei's boobies counted as a successful attack.
* Unite internal cross-point - The ninja with his orange facemask and baseball cap.
* Black beast of algae - A black version of the red slime we saw in episode one.
Google Translate does get a few names right (at least, I assume so):
* Makiko Oriotorai - The awesome Sensei.

Haha. Mildly amusing opener like Maji de Watashi. Looks like it could be a worthy comedy, but I was thinking people were talking too much and some of those character designs ... (boobs)
However, jelly and bomberman-lookalike FTW!
eye candy is just soooo heavy here. Visual overload!
Torri's design is strange... a guy with long earrings, trailing shinny threads from his shoulders? (kind of girlish). Don't really like his face either.
the fights are pretty good though. Quite high tech for a world that is supposed to be in a devastated state!
what's Horizon? is that a place or the name a person?
and is this "ship" an exiled state as said? what does that mean? who the people living there, and why do they have to leave once they reach 18? confusing....
Horizon - Episode 1
Horizon is the most audacious show of the season, with awesome artwork, characters, plot, writing and direction. Without a doubt, it's been a long time since we've seen such a diverse cast, with subtle characterization that hints at incredible depth and intricate relationships and even sensitive interactions. The only character that drags the ensemble down a bit is the teacher, but her character design reminds me enough of the the rest of the cast that I think we're still in safe hands.
It's also really nice that the creators decided to throw in a large amount of exposition right at the beginning of the episode. This allowed them to easily integrate the characters and the action directly with the larger storyline. Speaking of the plot, it's very interesting that they decided to move a big chunk of exposition into the end credits. This is an unusual move, but it lets them put in extra information without interrupting the delicate flow of the episode. It also means that they have the utmost confidence in their ability to draw the audience into the huge world of Horizion.
All in all, this is an episode that we're going to rarely see. Most creators would shy away from this approach in fear of crashing and burning from the sheer weight of the work, but these guys are made of sterner stuff. This may well be the most amazing show of the season.

So, I watched it again, with subs that didn't give me brain cancer, and I have to say...it's really quite hilarious. :p
Normally, I wouldn't give a show that visually screams "Infinite Stratos" vibes so much as a glance, but Sensei and Aoi have me a believer in this show producing laughs. As long as it sticks to the humor and doesn't collapse under the weight of the apparently very complicated source material, I think it'll do just fine, gag-inducing boobs aside. :D
Also, lol @ "..stick your #$*# in the power socket and die!" :p
That sounds horrific to me. Better rewatch that ep1 over & over again.

Doesnt we all live in a world with games where slimes, demons, dragons and all sorts of magic are fictional commoplaces? Mecha-musume series have girls demi-naked with robotics parts attached... Megaman and Black Rock Shooters produce cannons from his arms... Magical Madoka girls go trough paralell dimension at the snap of their fingers, mad scientists travel trough time via sms... So why this show can be so confusing for so many people?

Episode 1 was definitely a huge chaotic mess. I can't say I can praise the introduction and setup, considering how they went fullforce with the characters.
That said, past the issue with all the crapload of things thrown at us, Horizon certainly has a large variety in terms of characters and potential in the lot... If only the design wasn't so bipolar (female characters being either flat as iron board, or carrying watermelons as chest).
While design is a bit simple, they definitely poured a lot of efforts for the animation in general, and the sheer impression of large space (and this is only one part of Musashi, as far as I could get).
But the most noticeable strength of this series is the sheer amount of talented Seiyuu. I can't imagine the lion share of the budget being used up for this, but it is definitely not frugal in that department.
Not entierely free of flaws, it was certainly entertaining as a first episode, and as I basically have no knowledge of the original source and its author, I hope it will have some ambitious stuff behind all of this.
I have to admit I wasn't massively impressed by the first episode, but then again they were just throwing everything at the viewer but the plot...
Will probably give it at least another episode to see if it makes more sense...!

I hope so. I keep seeing this anime cited as a "high budget" production so logically OST's/other merchandise will probably follow.
I liked the opening & ending themes aswell. Can't wait for the full versions ~9/11/11.

I found correct they have made the first episode to show first the characters, after the world outline. It was going to lose the focus show the characters little by little.
Well, the animation was not top, but it was good. However, when the boxes fall under the characters, the wreckage are reached and turn smaller wreckage instead of alone smoke or vanish like in other anime. In other words, the animation cannot seem wonderful, but it is rich in small details.

This must be the first show that main chars' position in relationship chart are so far away :heh:.
There are 2 girls I don't remember seeing in bottom left of Toori's group. Also, there is one vacant slot in his group, too. There will be more character to be introduce later on?
And I might say it already, but I'm digging the 8 captain girls of the ship :D.
P.S: translated relationship charts would be appreciated :p.

Like Klashi, this be another one of my Fall 2011 must-watch series that I know nothing about. Heck, I've only seen previews for 2 shows this season :heh:
What drew me to this series? Naw, that Fall 2011 Chart didn't help, it's thanks to CrowKenobi and that post to the Nyantype/Megami posters, and I saw the Kyoukai Horizon poster, and let me say it here I became an absolute fan of girls in bodysuits after Infinite Stratos, and in this series that became my main prerogative.
Until I saw Sensei. Man, I love that girl. Maybe because she had the most involvement in this episode, but for some reason my chest tightens whenever I see her, and that voice:heh: discarding my confusion over why she wears that tiny shirt over her bodysuit, but I guess what won me over in this ep was the large portion of girls in bodysuits, man I'm losing blood fast and I have no idea where it's going, down or out :heh:
And I laughed when she got groped. I hear that was uncensored in a preview, or is that that magazine scan that I saw recently? Whatever, half my brain went on a tirade over the sudden bright fog that showed up and the other half of my brain wished I was the one doing the act :heh:
Now... I get this strange feeling I might not see much of Sensei in the latter eps... why do I get these kind of feelings these days? Maybe it's because I was crushed by the lack of Airi Bounce in Ro-Kyu-Bu, or the lack of Rabbit pantsu in Mayo Chiki, or...

Thanks for the names, I was about to go on an ineligible spree of nicknames, like for example, Ninja scarf guy = Sacred Seven's Arma, the two winged girls = Dizzy, etc..:heh:
Now as it stands I like all the girls who are in bodysuits  Ok if I were to narrow it down, it's gotta be Sensei, Kimi-chan and Christmas Lights-eyed girl Asama-chan :heh: Seriously Kimi-chan, that hair XD
By the way I am a little helter skelter, in case you didn't notice but what is Sensei's name? I'm.... not exactly sane to remember that if that was even uttered in the episode :uhoh::heh:

Sawashiro Miyuk plays Masazumi Honda (whoever that is).
Unless all the typical database sites are wrong, Shiraishi Ryoko plays Makiko-sensei. Plus, it sounds like Shiraishi Ryoko. Just run a recent episode of Sket Dance and listen to Himeko if you really want confirmation.

nope, Miyuki's one of my fave seiyuu and sensei's voice is definitely not her
although yes, Miyuki has a role in this anime (important one I believe) as Masazumi Honda (the girl that fainted in the near end of episode 1)
and IMO, sensei's voice is much more similar to Kanae Ito (Ruiko Saten from Toaru Kagaku no Railgun or Wakana Ito from Sacred Seven)
I'm a little bit suprised when I found out that Ryoko Shiraishi is the CV instead of Kanae Ito

I think the only reason that she was left behind is because from the PV and OP, we knows that she controlled some kinds of giant (mecha?) things...
And it would be too confusing and messy if they have to animate a giant robot chasing a teacher in the middle of the city :heh:

Speaking out which, is Hassan really going to fight with curry :twitch:? What did he think he was going to achieve when he attacked Sensei :eyespin:?
What I'd like to ask is what the author thought when he created him. Not only does he further the stereotype that the Japanese so frequently take to extremes, but he just seems like one of those "pointless" characters. Including succubus man and the freaking blob (who is cool, actually, whatevs ).
Speaking out which, is Hassan really going to fight with curry :twitch:? What did he think he was going to achieve when he attacked Sensei :eyespin:?
I'm pretty sure his only purpose is to let some select western anime bloggers express faux outrage over racial insensitivities, because we all know Japanese society gives a hoot about racial stereotypes.

But can't say I am not guilty about that.
I like the yuri Dizzy couple, too.
:heh: I assure you, my infatuation with those two girls aren't as big as I'm making it out to be XD. Clearly they both had a lot boing I mean going for them with the amount of screen time they had, further fueling my desires :heh:
I could have a change of heart mid season. For example, I just saw this:

(I know I'm late) But seriously, it's not wrong for me to look forward to scenes like that, right? Tell me I'm mentally healthy :heh:
And yeah another Dizzy fan :p
Well unlike Mangatron, I kind of balanced out the bust sizes of the girls that caught my eye.

The Winged-Girls are cute enough I guess but they are... No, nvm, I'll get into trouble for saying :heh:

hoo? nice design! :heh:
but I think I prefer her design in the anime (http://puu.sh/5BIe). can't wait to see more of her appearance.
They look the same to me, though. Just different angle.
This promo you speak of, you mind pointing me to it? (via PM if it proves unsightly to the rules)
Nevermind, that scene was from the OP, I remembered it wrongly. He didn't appear in the promotion PV.

That's your opinion, though I personally thought Horizon started out pretty well. And if we're gauging in terms with respect to a failure like Dragonaut, if nothing else the animation is quite a bit superior.
Looking forward to how the rest will turn out.

I'm kinda confuse of the series settings. Does this series takes place on Earth in the past or another dimension? And what was the war that the narrator at the end mentioned?
Can someone give me an easy explanation? Thanks.

Unless all the typical database sites are wrong, Shiraishi Ryoko plays Makiko-sensei. Plus, it sounds like Shiraishi Ryoko. Just run a recent episode of Sket Dance and listen to Himeko if you really want confirmation.
Yep, Makiko is totally Himeko which is awesome.

about war
Set in a distant land, Japan is divided into feudal territories, yet conquered by outside countries.
There is a floating city named Musashi that is composed of eight ships in the skies.
The city Musashi that will ignite the flame of battle is being targeted and has no choice but to keep its people safe by entering this war.
With the fate of the world resting on its hands, the students of Musashi may hold the key to victory.
about narrator explanation in the End of eps 1
In the far future, humans abandon the devastated Earth and move to the upper world "Tenjo". But Tenjo and the law of causation collapse by a war and humans returns to the Earth, which has turns into an inhabitable planet except for Shinshu area.
Shinshu is too small to accommodate all the humans, so they duplicate the area and create "Juso Sekai" in a parallel world. In order to rebuild Tenjo and the law of causation, the returned humans start reproduction of the history from B.C. 10,000. When the reproduction proceeds to A.D. 1413, a war breaks out in Shinshu and Juso Sekai falls onto the original world.
The humans living in Juso Sekai lose their land and invade the original world. People in Shinshu surrender and the land is divided by the invaders from Juso Sekai. They try to resume the history reproduction from A.D.1457, but the update of the history terminates in A.D.1648. A rumor of apocalypse begins to spread the world.

Plot looks to be kinda like something from medieval times actually, people fighting it out to conquer land with some extra elements mixed in like women with airbags instead of a chest, magic, fanservice, FukuJun trying to go against the world yet again, fanservice, dystopia? and oh did I mention fanservice?
Fanservice? Breasts? You don't say, I was thinking that was some kind of advanced parachute system; you know right one is main, left one is the reserve. :heh:
Seriously though, people said this was "serious," so I'm giving it some leaway, but it sure is trying mighty hard to prove that statement wrong. And lets face it those 18 volumes could have just been fanservice for what it's worth... it's not like people haven't done more jawdrapponing mind blowing unreasonable things:

=> not the kind of "fanservice" I can enjoy, but oh well... to each his own, I guess.
as for my thoughts about the episode, I only need to quote this:
Don’t worry, the script-writers seemingly also don’t remember every bit of crap that happens in the story since they don’t bother to mention the whole thing until the end with a rushed summary.
“Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere” tries really hard to make you understand what exactly “in the middle of nowhere” means as its setting is just a confusing mess at this point which is hard to grasp since it’s all dumped on the audience in the last few minutes. The rest of the episode tries to do the whole exposition-thingy but it’s hard to understand why and how these character are supposed to matter. At least it’s nice to know that the title of the show was chosen as an ironic remark…
yeah, not the best of first impressions...
(but let's give this the benefit of doubt for another 2-3 eps...)
Sunrise, eh? Needlessly convoluted setting, and an ass-ton of unnecessary techno-bubble to justify gainaxing boobs and a butt-load of money spent on CG... when has this happened before :heh:

If there was a better method to make me not watch this anime than this horrible first episode, I think it has yet to be invented.
Completely over the top, horrible character designs and some of the most annoying characters at first glance which I've seen in years.

Holy shit, it never crossed my mind :upset:
Then again the last worthwhile one was Funmina 1-2 years back :(
It's so hard having a lot of fetishes! They're all good but when one takes precedence over the other, I get so confused :heh:
Let me clarify...
french maids > twin-tails > knee-socks > odd-eyes > glasses > goths > ponytails > short skirts > long straight hair > large breasts ... and should I go on, it would be too OT :heh:
Those covers  I gotta say it again: THAT HAIR. Really, I watched episode 01 several times now :uhoh::heh: but never mind the insanity of that, but I always get a laugh whenever I see the girls. This one in particular:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-svB4XVPjvBk/To5qc5z81LI/AAAAAAAACDw/hQNUpmvWSrU/s400/rocketeer.jpg
Look at that hair. She looks like she got rocket boosters hidden somewhere there :heh:
Still better than the dick that pops out of FukuJun's head in the beginning of the OP.
Anyway, Matsudaira, if I remember correctly, managed even to get a H-doujinshi, thanks to her drills/croissants... [manoya] makkingu - dear my king - if that title makes sense to anyone :heh:

One the one hand side the body suits are nice, but they *do* lack the zettai ryouiki... what to do, what to do... I know, they could wear overknee socks with their body suits :D

So funny that the so-called hero only appeared in last 5 minutes of the first episode and even funnier his sister(not sure about their relationship but he did call her as "onee-chan") appeared much earlier than he did.
lol, do watch it again, Toori was clearly appear even BEFORE the op start.
Oh I loved Sensei throughout the episode, but the scene in my sig iced it for me :D
I would have expected you to like that few seconds of Sensei shot :heh: But yes, the Sensei is at the moment my #1 female character in the series right now. But of course, this episode was rushed on details so it can change :p

Ha! They even have a terminology thingy for each episodes (*hint* translators, read these, especially now that episode 2's lists are up). The glossary basically tells you which terms are spoilers and which aren't, sooo
(when possible, I like to involve people who don't necessarily want to spoil themselves in novel thread, so explanation here help everyone)
Plot/terms to take away from episode 1 (not spoilers, the show put up explanation on the website to clear things up, so they probably won't able to get to them in the episode ... maybe). I'm almost certain these glossary stuff will be included in the BR or something, so if you feel the show fails by not able to incorporate these information, that's fine, but I feel you should understand them for future understanding of the show.
WHY HISTORY RE-ENACTMENT?
People have gotten enough power ("like Gods") and rise to the heaven (outer space maybe?) in the past. To obtain that power again is the prime driving force for following history in the entirety hoping to recreate the historical timeline that would eventually cause the re-surfacing of the technology/person/??? that would lead them back to heaven (in other words: I lost my wallet; let me retrace my steps this morning and maybe I can find it again).
I don't think this was made clear at all at the end (partially due to original script and also due to translation of said script).
HOLY SCRIPTURE ("BIBLE"/"HISTORY BOOK") (subs translate this as Testament)
All the re-enactment follow this book. Self-records history up to +/- 100 years. Stop recording 100 years ago, hence why Musashi said this is the end of the world (history stopped recording, got no more history to follow).
Side Note: By the way, if you didn't notice, Musashi ends all her sentence with 以上, which translates to "Over" I guess; she is also the one who made the announcement in the beginning of the episode (but in fansub, they translated the beginning part as 'That is all' instead of 'Over').
EARTH LINE ("Earth Pulse")
One term that nobody translated (not even TAN).
When Asama jumped onto Persona-kun's hand. She said "Connecting to Earth Pulse" 地脈接続 not "Coordinate Lockon". You can't just spam unlimited skill works in here. You need "Fuel", which comes from this Earth Pulse 地脈. The similarity is drawn to your 血脈 (Blood Vessels), which give you energy.
You can call this Earth Pulse or Vessel, but both sound weird so ... even TAN completely skipped over this.
STUDENT SAVING THE WORLD, CONVENIENT PLOT POINT
... not.
School + student =/= our world's school and student. You can be a student in other faction/countries even if you're 18+. Only student has political powers because they are the ones performing re-enactment. BUT, for Far East people, 18+ they got to graduate = no more political power (at least for the moment). This is a subjugation political move on the nation; furthermore, they put in idiots like our MC to screw them over. I feel this is a valid reason why they center on a student cast + having the stupidest of them all at the head position.
This was explained in the beginning of the episode, I have no idea how much people take away from this part though.
That's all I felt that was talked about and people didn't really entirely understand from episode 1 (all from IRC lurking reading conversation; if you guys got all that and think this is a waste of the time, then yeah just pretend I'm that old guy that sit under the tree in the park who talk to himself). Hell, if you understand things differently then say something, because I am wrong all the time often.
Random translation things that bugged me
There's no forbidden attacks, just got a mixed up with 近 and 禁. Mr. "Bomberman" (look at his cap if you don't get why people call him this) didn't use any secret skills in the episode. TAN was correct in this.
Asama's purification ritual is stronger than implicated. The triple protection in the beginning purge 3 negative effects that can affect her arrows: slow 停滞 (by wind or elements in the air etc.), escape 外逸 (aka gives homing ability), and damage 障害 (can't be cut). It slightly bugs me that fansub groups didn't translate this. Once again +1 TAN.
The Earth Pulse translation that got left out is kinda important, because otherwise you would think she can just spam this skill like crazy since it's so overpowered.
Further more, nobody translated this scene (http://puu.sh/6DkC), which on the right side says the summon is Sakuya Type 01. To me that implies, maybe she can summon other stuff but I don't know for sure. HELL HANAMI (http://puu.sh/6AQA) IS THE BEST THING IN EPISODE 1, AND NONE OF YOU GUYS MENTIONED HER (if you did, then not enough because I didn't see it on this page and I don't have time to read back yet ;___; ). Man she should be a permanent summon ...
Some people on IRC got confused by the money guy/twin angel's beginning "combo" attack. That's partly translation's fault too I think.
Money guy: Spend a lot!
Partner: Contract sealed!
Money guy: Here are the goods!
At this point, he throws a stack of combined toriis up, which looks like this (http://puu.sh/6Dlp). TAN translated this.
分 is cent (noun; as in 1/100th of one standard money unit) on top, but means split (v.) on the bottom. To me, I understand it as he used 3 cents (remember he has a whole stack of 'em), and that allowed the Margot to split/modify her missiles into multiple parts. Her "missiles" also feel like coins to me too so ...
Finally, I don't think Herrlich is an attack name (any German speaker here that can clear that up for us? At least I think that's German ...) since you can see it here before launching (http://puu.sh/6DlO) and launching (http://puu.sh/6AZu).
Moral of the story, watch TAN for the "most accurate translation", but fansub group has the best flow imo, because I wanted to beat myself over the head when I see localization like "Owwie ..."
:topicoff:
To explain why I raged insanely at Hadena was:
1) I know the group leader (who could've asked me for help on irc)
2) I can stand people who dislike the shows but can't stand trolls (that potentially can screw up other people's experience), and I totally thought that was a troll sub (just like GG's aria sub ... got enough right and add in random crap in between); the translator has the vol1 of the book now, so maybe the sub's watchable this week. That outburst was highly inappropriate though and I deeply apologize for that.
I got midterms coming up, so try to keep the discussion to more than boobs and asses guys while I'm gone. Not that there's anything wrong with that either :D. Hints should start be dropping here and there starting next episode for where the story is going.
Pre-orders peaked at 10th on Amazon's ranking, which made me and Suzuku quite happy, but sad at lack of timely subs still.

I really liked episode 1, lots of interesting characters and the setting. I'm looking forward to the next episode.
I gotta tell you, it's strange, but I've got this series near the top of my list of "can't wait to see the next ep" stuff for this season. I don't really have a good reason why, as I really don't know how to explain it.... it might even be a Bigger reason :uhoh::heh:
But yes, the Sensei is at the moment my #1 female character in the series right now. But of course, this episode was rushed on details so it can change :p
That's similar to how I feel. A part of the reason why I like her so much is because she had the most lines in the episode and she had a considerable amount of screen time to show her stuff. The part I'm not liking is I have this feeling that her screen time in upcoming eps might be drastically reduced :heh:
Yes, that's indeed a disadvantage :heh:
One the one hand side the body suits are nice, but they *do* lack the zettai ryouiki... what to do, what to do... I know, they could wear overknee socks with their body suits :D
That's.... kinda unscientific:heh:. That's like asking a girl at the beach to wear Usami Masamune's thigh-high boots. It may look good, but it's the wrong setting/situation :heh:
Can you guess which characters are described above? :D
I'm not a big fan of online translators, but you gotta admit: "Aria Dust" :heh: For some reason I wonder if this can be a special ability for Kanzaki H. Aria :D
Didn't even know you have such thing, but if it's true, then welcome to our world :p.
I've had that nickname for over 4 years:heh: It's... a long story about how I got that nickname lol.
And those hair are going to be a pain in an ass to animate. Now if she pull any kind of weapon from inside that hair, I wouldn't even be surprised anymore.
I really want to see her and Kimi-chan in the same shot side by side, how's that for an action scene with the two of them. Good thing it's a widescreen anime :heh:
:topicoff:
I got midterms coming up, so try to keep the discussion to more than boobs and asses guys while I'm gone. Not that there's anything wrong with that either :D. Hints should start be dropping here and there starting next episode for where the story is going.
As a non-novel reader, I'm going to have to stick to my original plan and lead the way on the fanservice talk :heh: but what always is my plan B is to extended the discussion for a full week after each ep airs regarding other fun stuff, so let's begin:
Finally, I don't think Herrlich is an attack name (any German speaker here that can clear that up for us? At least I think that's German ...) since you can see it here before launching (http://puu.sh/6DlO) and launching (http://puu.sh/6AZu).
Know that my German is more rusty than it was 5 years ago, but I'm going on a limb and I think she used "Herrlichkeit" (her-lish-kite) [noun]. Some meanings are Glory, magnificence, loveliness:heh:. Then again, Japanese girls speaking German aren't as common as them speaking English so I'm eating a grain of salt now (maybe I need to hear Kana Hanazawa say this word:heh:), but that does sound close enough. Of course, I'm looking at you, Shimapan to confirm this.
If someone makes a Rainmeter skin of her, then we'll talk :p

Is KuroNeko behind all these? :heh: j/k
I really hope the directors and the writers for the anime will be able to sufficiently make a coherent, yet enjoyable, series from the source material. If episode one is any indication, then we are in trouble.
However, I hope to see some better pacing and actual story development/explaination next episode instead of throwing everything everywhere.
The series has potential, so we will have to see.

They say people with these books have a 5% higher chance of protecting themselves from robbers.
Some details (from the anime thread in the 2ch):
1) In the sign-frame (nobody translated this term yet, I think...) of Adele when she accelerated there was this text under the word 加速 (Acceleration):
http://fsm.vip2ch.com/-/hirame/hira046102.png
It looks like it was a reference to the second paragraph of the prologue of the Gospel of John.
2) When Tenzou (ninja) said "Style: Ninja Forcer, Ten(ry" it had this meaning:
Style = It's obvious, but is the fight style that one excels the most. It's divided based on the range and the type of weapon:
Range = Close range (フォーサー:Forcer); Long range (ガンナー:Gunner); All range (マスター:Master)
Type of weapon = Hand-to-hand combat [格闘師] (クリティカル:Critical); Martial Arts [武術師] (ストライク:Strike); Artificial Body [義体師] (スチール:Steel); Thaumatargy??? [神術師] (エナジー:Energy); Magic [魔術師] (マギノ:Magi). Oh and about the ninja: Ninjutsu [忍術師] (忍術:Ninja).
The same for Gacchan and Nai-chan (yuri couple): "Black and White Magi Gunners".
Hassan (curry) would be... what? A Curry Forcer? lol

I mean it's a great episode but even after reading the explanation post above I'm still a little dumb funded by all this. I will keep watching the series it's just my mind feels a bit overwhelmed.

Sunrise not only did Dragonaut but also Mai Otome/Hime which was also very girl-loaded. Guess they need a break from time to time from drawing so much mecha and ugly germanish pilots! But, hey, they managed to put amazing mecha even in here, so no complains! And according to PVs, even mechas can have bouncing breast :heh:. Speaking of which, maybe is for all that bouncing around that some people cant grasp the complexity of slimes being split in half for bad mouthed girls. Or maybe is because bad mouthed girls and badass (or should I say goodass?) teachers arent the random dumb lolis they where expecting for?
So going for some *serious* stuff, It is me or from the cover of LN Vol 2, Masazumi Honda was the one who received the flat treatment in her anime version?

about event before op? mikawa? horizon? narration at the end?
I think this ep just showed event, opening, some detail about how's the story goes, the training, toori's plan with horizon, narrator narrating about bg story/synopsis on the end, showing someone passed out on the street.

I think this ep just showed event, opening, some detail about how's the story goes, the training, toori's plan with horizon, narrator narrating about bg story/synopsis on the end, showing someone passed out on the street.
It's not that it's a bad explanation because it dose help some it's just that I feel that something is a bit off about the anime's attempt to adapt them. Like they were footnotes to be slipped in during this massive P.E. class battle...:heh:
That was a quick license from Sentai Filmworks..

ooh just some details? I thought what you mean by "really really confused" is about plot like some of member here have complained. :heh:
hm.. not a novel reader myself, and fortunately I'm not a person that like to care about detail that much especially when this anime has a lot of chara (http://genesis-horizon.net/character/index01.html), do they need to explain every detail of their skill one by one? will 13 eps (S1) enough for that? I hope they can, but I have my doubt.

The degree to which a lot of people got bent out of shape about this show around the usual circles had me quite amused. :heh: Personally I quite enjoyed the first episode and the hints at a much more involving story down the road, but I have to admit that I don't really care for any of the characters right off the bat who all come across as a stereotype of some sort and who didn't really have that much interesting to say with the exception of Tori and his teachers. That definitely did do the first episode any favors. The two witch/angel girls and Aoi Kimi especially weren't doing themselves any favors this episode.
Still it's early days and I can already see things picking up next episode with the docking at Mikawa so I'm almost certain to follow this to the end of the season.
I didn't find the first episode as incomprehensible as others found. Sure, there were a lot of characters, but the premise was explained fairly clearly. Basically, in the far future, history repeats itself. It's the first episode. It doesn't have to explain everything fully.
It's like people's brains turned into goo in the how many seasons of mindless shows over the years and then complain when a show has exposition. I actually rather like this approach since my time is now limited and can't be arsed to watch episode after episode amounting to nothing happening (read: shonen). It's not like I take this show seriously anyway, considering some of the cast are clearly supposed to be jokes. Even the main character is a bit of a joke.
I also have to laugh when people can't tell the difference between art and animation. The animation and choreography are quite good in fact. The art and facial expressions are passable but certainly not terrible, though this is up to personal preference. It could do with less CG ships and mecha though. They're quite jarring.

I couldn't agree more, especially for people can't tell the difference between art and smooth animation
eg: the animation was bad because I don't like that oversized boobs
they reduced the boobs size more than a half already, what did you expect? make all the characters pettanko? *sigh* (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=3795066&postcount=557)
if they watched episode 1 and they didn't understand, they are going to start complaining
they forgot that statistically it's only 1(episodes)/13(episodes)*2(seasons) = 3.8% of the total story/plot being told and could even less because story and plot are not distributed equally in each episode
some ppl even said that it was too confusing and has no plot
seriously? It doesn't have a plot and you're confused by it? :twitch:

Don't know if it's just me or not but I didn't find the CGI that bad, actually seemed ok much like most CGI today, only when it's really bad will I say something but can't say IMO that I found any anime series where it was jarring expect maybe recent Ironman anime but then that pretty meh/bad overall I didn't care whether or not the CGI was outta place.
Everything looked crisp to me but then I've never really had a eye for saying that looks bad or not:p
Animation is very good tho, nice and fluid.

Information overload... it seems both anime that I like this season are essentially "OVER 9000 CHARACTERS" styled worlds.
I'm praying the Horizon anime does a good job of world building, because what I've learned so far makes it sound awesome. Admittedly, I would not have stuck around at first if I didn't spot the yuri angels, as initial impressions were like "impossible to adapt, hence likely to be pretentious".
Oh, wow, Tomo Asama (archer girl) is Tori's childhood friend?
http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/1930/trollface1.gif
PS. Hassan Fullbush? Haha, that's awesome.
You provide the explanation to the plot in the episode in one sentence then go on to praise it for having great exposition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exposition_(literary_technique))? (which I might add happened in small piece of narrative unrelated to everything else in the episode) The only real exposition we got was, here's a flying ship, this guy is leader, this girl is a teacher and that girl is leader doods sister. :heh: ...in 20min.
I actually rather like this approach since my time is now limited and can't be arsed to watch episode after episode amounting to nothing happening (read: shonen). This is definitely shonen and a fantasy. And maybe action and mecha too, we'll see.
It's not like I take this show seriously anyway, considering some of the cast are clearly supposed to be jokes. Even the main character is a bit of a joke. It's not comedy level by no means, they're just designed funny. At this point, since it's just the design and nothing else, it's just personal opinion if you found it funny or awkward.
I also have to laugh when people can't tell the difference between art and animation.Art is not lines with colors between them. If you want to refer to that use words like Visuals / Graphics. Art is basically anything created with the purpose of drawing out some feelings within you, that's why even things like literature and film can bear the label. I wouldn't call animation art when it's not intended as such, but it's not wrong when you're inferring to only certain moments or the style itself. Or if you want to refer to both the visuals and the animation as whole, art is sort of appropriate.
The animation and choreography are quite good in fact. The art and facial expressions are passable but certainly not terrible, though this is up to personal preference. It could do with less CG ships and mecha though. They're quite jarring.Animation and Choreography are roughly interchangable in the context; the main sense of choreography actually doesn't apply to animated content—but it does sound cool when used I suppose, and sort of conveys the same message.
You should try being more humble. Whining about whining doesn't make you all high and mighty; and to be honest I don't think anyone was actually whining to begin with, it's just your average amount of confusion which every show has.
I wasn't particularly whining, just nodding with Kaioshin Sama in agreement and amused how the guys at ANN doing their seasonal things are a bit contradictory when it comes to production values. Not just related to this show. I know, opinions and all that. Still funny. I know art encompasses everything that has aesthetic value, but I didn't think anyone would be pedantic about it. Finally, I didn't praise this show for its exposition. I just didn't have a problem with it. My main hook is the rather large and diverse cast and decently animated action sequences without talking heads ruining the flow, but we'll see when the plot unfolds I suppose.
Fast-paced, but it was expected. A lot of focus on Masazumi. Unfortunately they cut the Maro/Sanyou-sensei scenes... And the God mosaic almost didn't appear. Why!?
Well, Suzu was kawaii, the ED was simple, but nice... Why Shiraishi's "mouse" is so cute!? Ah, the scene when Musashi entered in the stealth mode was probably my favorite this time.
Next week we'll finally get to see Dacchan, Kazuno, Futayo and "Nobutan" :D

Watched the first episode and wasn't a fan. Not that it was really confusing, it just seemed that the whole episode was nothing more than some flashy FF-style filler with some fan-service. The main character, when he finally did appear, managed to make me hate him with the only two minutes he had on screen.
Didn't help that none of the characters received any real kind of introduction or development. It was just a mess that really didn't seem to establish anything.
I did enjoy the action, but felt that the episode had nothing to keep me interested.

Vice President of the student council. She's very serious, skilled in debate, and aiming to become a politician. In the past she underwent gender reassignment surgery in order to succeed the family name, but certain circumstances forced her to stop the process part way. Her lack of breasts is a result of the surgery, but Tori treats her as a girl with tiny boobs.

What the hell, this thread is 33 pages long. Not gonna read through that for a boobie anime.
I haven't really been keeping up on info for this season's premiers but since I found out that Gundam Age is apparently a kiddie anime I've been browsing around for something else interesting. I was originally gonna pass this series up due to comparisons to stuff like Infinite Stratos or Toaru Majutsu no Index but since I am not actually against boobs I thought I'd check out the PV. Looks kinda epic, there is nice action and mecha and stuff. Maybe I'll like it.
The problem is, I can't stand pretentious stuff without the intelligence and narrative integrity to back it up. And at the same time, I can't stand exploitative fanservice unless it's got the genuine perversion/delusion level to match up to hentai. So I would rather this series focus on one or the other, if it is going to pull off either one well enough to match up to my tastes. The brief glimpse I've had is conversely pulling me in two directions. I am not confident so far.
I'll give the first episode a look. I hope it pulls off something amazing, and that's the reason for this thread's length so far. If this series doesn't immediately hook me, unfortunately that will be a drop.

This isn't the type of series that hooks you immediately, or rather, the first episode doesn't really star anything. I'd suggest three-four episode rule.

First Gundam AGE did have a kiddie animation but the stuff happening is not for kids at all then when did Horizon got compare to IS and Index? I know there's been a comparison of THICKNESS of the book between vol 1-22 of Index and all current volumes of Horizion which makes Horizon despite only 7 or 8 books is as thick as 22 books. But story wise it's pretty different. From the settings the Horizon is more like onto political approach and waring zone between different powers while IS is about girls being cute with mech and Index is being Index without Index :heh: :heh: It's vastly different that I can't shake the idea that who said that they are similar is not really familiar with the material which he/she is comparing.

I said they're similar (Index, not IS). I made clear when I said that though that I meant the'yre similar in the sense that they're serious action shows with fanservice in them, not that they have similar plots. And I said that in response to someone saying Horizon is like IS, which it isn't at all.

So from now on every serious action (LN) show would be compared to Index, while every fanservice (LN) show would be compared to IS? I guess that's some sort of flattery right :heh: ?
But honestly, I don't think there's another story quite like Horizon when you look pass the superficial points. This is like Extreme Sci-Fi right?
EDIT:

lol, so you can get neg-repped for being unfamiliar with a series nowadays. Seems like this thread is hosting a couple uptight individuals .
Anyway, I went and checked out the first episode, and I think I will give it the provisional 3-4 test period as suggested. I don't have much issue with being bludgeoned over the head with a character cast and exposition, but what I'd look first for in an obtuse/pretentious series like this is aesthetic. The PV and the title of the series itself ("Horizon on the middle of nowhere") suggested to me a certain aesthetic of the beauty and emptiness of a vast and unmoving universe, with the skyships, etc. further building upon that imagery. Thus far, it is the main character's expression which is supporting an interest and expectation for that aesthetic for me, because it is an empty and unchanging smile which seems to anticipate the immovability of the universe. If the story is set in a vast and epic universe, then I request that it make use of that setting to present some incredible emotional setpieces. Thus far, the potential seems to be there, but I want to be impressed by the execution.
Incidentally, is there anything noteworthy about this being a Sunrise anime? Is there any adaptational element itself being hyped (i.e. directing, animation), or are people mostly interested an account of the source material? Is there any expectation that this will be a worthwhile piece of work on its own merits beyond simply being an introduction to the light novels?
I like the strongly Japanese and Shinto elements of the story's mythology. I actually had goosebumps running along my arms during the entire opening chant/song sequence. On the other hand, it was kind of cliche and eye-rolling that part of the basic premise is the analogue to Japan (i.e. "Musashi") being oppressed (and stripped of its 'rightful place' as the center of the Eastern sphere of influence) by Western powers. Cultural centralism is fine, but I won't be too interested in a work of political and historical centralism.
Well, I hear the next episode will be coming out tomorrow. I'll be waiting to give it a look.

Can't say for sure. The most noteworthy element from the high novel is its thickness, and the number of the cast :heh:. I'm just in for the main character.
Judging from the spoiler, the novel does have interesting plot and development, but it's a huge spoiler so if you really want to know, drop by the manga/light novel thread.
So, episode two has far less energy than episode one, with mostly exposition that goes over my head (for now). Mildly disappointed, plus Aoi's boob gag was funny in episode one, but if he's going to repeat it in every episode...well, it's going to stop being funny. :heh:
The preview for episode three doesn't look like any action is going to happen any time soon, outside of what looks like a possible betrayal/attack at the meeting of the old farts. :(

As for episode 02, what a pain in the brain! Why do they have to explain the setting in class? What a lame device! Well, no problem anyway (except those sbs!) cause the psycho brother´s exotic maneuver compensate for the lack of action of the entire episode.

As for episode 02, what a pain in the brain! Why do they have to explain the setting in class? What a lame device! Well, no problem anyway (except those sbs!) cause the psycho brother´s exotic maneuver compensate for the lack of action of the entire episode.
I think it's actually a good idea, combining class situation with history/story-telling of the world setting because narrator's explanation and synopsis was still not enough, at least for some people.

He didn't just put his hands on Neito, he actually rubbed his face against her as well :heh:
Hell yes! Face-rubbing must count as the Bonus Points Kiyonari mentioned on episode 01 :heh:! Thank God Toori hasnt run by P-01 at some random corridor as usual. We can rest assured he will perform his act willingly against that defenceless automaton :heh:.

So I guess a history class may has been useful after all... But, wait! Why is close-combat teacher teaching history?

lol, so you can get neg-repped for being unfamiliar with a series nowadays. Seems like this thread is hosting a couple uptight individuals .
Anyway, I went and checked out the first episode, and I think I will give it the provisional 3-4 test period as suggested.
...
Well, I hear the next episode will be coming out tomorrow. I'll be waiting to give it a look.
Aww, I'm sorry =(. I think people in the topic are just slightly agitated at the comparison to IS, which albeit understandable can be very frustrating at times!
You stuck around for Medaka and I hope you do so here too :D. There is definitely a story and ... that brings to my main point.
Kawakami confirmed that Episode 4-5 will be "the real deal"/main plot (as expected I might add). (http://yaraon.blog109.fc2.com/blog-entry-4531.html)
For you guys that are temporarily dropping this or still wondering whether to continue, keep that news in mind!!!
Still haven't watch episode 2, but from what I read on irc, waiting for TAN translation once again might be a better idea. Though from just glancing at previous posts, seems like you can start finding historical figures (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Masazumi) in this episode. I guess we can start neta hunting eh.
Also I saw the info dump (his research and planning for this series) image from Kawakami (dude needs to learn how to use a computer for research).

Well, speaking of Medaka and the main character in this being moe, one of the things which has most struck me about this series is Aoi Toori's resemblance to Kumagawa. So much so, in fact, that I'm slightly worried about the epic mindblowing potential Kumagawa will have when we finally get the Medaka anime, now that some of the audience will have been exposed to this type of character. Still, though, it is pretty much exactly true that what kind of character Aoi Toori will be is the principle point keeping me interested in this anime. I can't tell right now whether I should just jump straight onto the bandwagon, or be worried about his sure to be exaggerated popularity.
The guy's awesome. It seems he's so extreme the people that would like that really like him, and for everyone else it's SO bad it's good. Somehow the show's sex-changing antics made even more absurd then it already was; basically now we can't even be sure what kind of hell hole spawned him. :heh:
As for everything else. This episode made a lot more sense, though I think credit is due to the people actually explaining Ep1 here then the actual episode itself. Thanks for that. I didn't have the best opinion on the female outfits last episode but this one kind of turned it all around, they're really expressive and kind of amusing in a way; I think they look silly in battles so probably Ep1 kind of started on the wrong foot in that regard. Same thing could be said about the interface gadgets they keep summoning. They've kind of grown on me now that they've been portrayed as an everyday thing rather then the "battle interface" feel they had in the first episode.
Character wise. face was funny so he gets the okey from me; his sister too. Other characters were kind of okey, though we didn't really get much development on that front. I think the main girl jumped to the top, along with sister, now that I know she's some kind of robot—her personality was just too bland, but I can accept it if she's some kind of doll thing.
Story wise. Presentation was better, just because it was more slow and tamed. We also didn't get teased every half second. The world itself ain't looking so random anymore and it seems to be shaping into a decent sci-fi of sorts. If the show gets a half-decent plot it should be good, though I'm sure some people would just still watch it anyway,

Also, what a great place for news ANN is! Just dont ask their columnist for opinions, cause they will tell you that an anime is 1.5 of 5 because it have too much action and too much eye candy!
\
Yep, ANN is goddamned atrocious with it's previews and reviews IMO with the sole exception of Zac Bertschy who I find to actually be informative, insightful and often amusing. The rest just seems like they don't give half a damn about what they are writing (in other words they lack passion) and just want to get the articles out there and it clearly shows in how simplistic their criteria for judgement is and how much they can par down a show to fit that criteria. I find most if not all review sites and blogs to be just as bad sadly, hence why I now use myself as the primary source of making a judgement call on whether to watch a series and how to describe it to others. After all who better to know my own tastes and interests than myself....someone who also happens to be VERY different in that regard compared to the majority of anime fandom and thus a person whom most reviews can't help or be used as gauge for.
I can't recall the last time some official source said something like this and it turned out well.
Why? Your average shows main plot kicks in around that time usually anyway after the world and characters have been a bit more formally introduced. Sounds like standard operating procedure to me as opposed to something to be apprehensive about.
Reviews, at least the ones that throw a number at the end, are pretty dumb in general...
but exactly what faggotry are we talking about here?Don't care, as long as it's funny. It's pretty hard to pull stunts like this off and make me laugh, since I'm the pretty hard headed, but this episode managed so hopefully the show can keep up the act.

Believe it or not I'm not trying to hype anything up since I barely know the franchise unlike with Gundam AGE for example. For stuff like that and details and what not I think you might want to talk to stuopidget before anyone else. I just think it's better that people get the best possible understanding of a show and considering this show has had something of a borked release I don't think it can hurt to try and throw in a few hints like say....watch the official TAN release as opposed to bad illegal you know what's.

Onto the fun side of things, For some reason, I can totally imgine Kimi (I mean Belfiore) onee-chan asking Toori to seize her breast and give his judgement, with it being not incestuous at all. Both are so beyond limits that an act like that could be just everyday´s routine. Not to say everything is so over the top. Could it be the first time I saw in an anime a pervert mecha like Kishonari :twitch: (well except for Masamune Shirow cyborgs), but hey! This guy looks plain robotic!
I bet the writer of Horizon plays Disgaea in his spare time, that is, if he has any time to spare! :heh:
And poor Masazumi, indeed! Not so for her past, but she is one of the few flatchested girls in this era, and happens to be probably in love with a breast grabbing, LN obsessed guy like Toori. That s a source of drama!
Very strangely, nowadays fast action-paced, flamboyant animated episodes ones seems to be not so popular as episodes with boring people talkin with hardly any animation in it...

There's no bloodthirsty prinies, no demon lords, and more importantly... no sardines!! I suppose the randomness of the cast somehow resembles Disgaea, but still no. The closest thing it has to Disgaea is the way the setting works. The whole monsters and human-looking character living together, but that's more of a generic theme that isn't really Disgaea specific.

Fighting or no fighting doesn't make any difference on whether an episode is good or bad; it's merely a presentation prop that's sometimes necessary. In the far future, humans abandon the devastated Earth and move to the upper world "Tenjo". But Tenjo and the law of causation collapse by a war and humans returns to the Earth, which has turns into an inhabitable planet except for Shinshu area. Shinshu is too small to accommodate all the humans, so they duplicate the are and create "Juso Sekai". In order to rebuild Tenjo and the law of causation, the returned humans start reproduction of history from B.C. 10,000. When the reproduction completes until A.D. 1413, a war breaks out in Shinshu and Juso Sekai falls onto the original world. The humans living in Juso Sekai lose their land and invade the original world. People in Shinshu surrender and is divided by the invaders from Juso Sekai. They try to resume the history reproduction from A.D.1457, but the update of history terminates in A.D.1648. A rumor of apocalypse begins to spread the world.

In the far future, humans abandon a devastated Earth and traveled to outer space. However, due to unknown phenomenon that prevents them from traveling into space, humanity returns to Earth only to find it inhospitable except for Japan.
To accomodate the entire human population, pocket dimensions are created around Japan to house in the populace. In order to find a way to return to outer space, the humans began reenacting human history according to the Holy book Testament. But in the year 1413 of the Testament Era, the nations of the pocket dimensions invade and conquer Japan, dividing the territory into feudal fiefdoms and forcing the original inhabitants of Japan to leave.
It is now the year 1648 of the Testament Era, the refugees of Japan now live in the city ship Musashi, where it constantly travels around Japan while being watched by the Testament Union, the authority that runs the re-enactment of history. However, rumors of an apocalypse and war begins to spread when the Testament stops revealing what happens next after 1648. Taking advantage of this situation, Tori Aoi, head of Musashi Ariadust Academy's Supreme Federation and President of the student council, leads his fellow classmates to use this opportunity to regain their homeland.
Taken from Wikipedia. And, no, I have no idea how re-enacting history is supposed to solve anything, but in the context of this fictional universe, the inhabitants believe it, so I'll just accept that it's a fundamental law of how their world works. :heh: Also, there's an interview somewhere where they say the story doesn't really start until episode 4. So enjoy the fanservice for now I guess.

I think they're doing a fine job, they're telling you the information straightforward. The explanations aren't incomplete, they just tell the details as they fit in the context of the conversation they're having. As for the terminologies, they explained them in the class explanation as well (if you're talking about the references to the Divine and Harmonic states). Rather than the anime not doing a good job of explaining, I just think people zone-out in the middle of the infodumps and cease attempting to pay attention to what's being said.

Conventionally people wants to know what's going on in the world then zoom in to the characters, but in this case I'm not going to bother with the world setting yet- I'm going to start with the individual characters then slowly zoom out into the greater world setting. As far as I'm concern, this is an extreme Fantasy/Sci-Fi story where people live on ships because the world is uninhabitable in most places and humans aren't the only sentient beings - full stop.
As for politics, we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Incomplete explanations means there is more to the story, which means more explanations later on.

This isn't really correct. As far as we know, Musashi is the only ship that doubles as a city. All the other countries have their own respective lands in the Far East.

Thaaaanks ! It's more cleraly now !
Again, we have a real life too and some of us don't have the time to watch the same episode again and again. And if some people don't undertand what's going on, it's mean it's not as good as you think.
So from what I udenrtand, it's the sudent who have the power in this world because they can re-enact the Testament ? So it makes Torri Aoi really powerful no ?

The re-enactment is like retracing their footsteps to try to figure out how they achieve space travel again.
And to mirror what Kusa said, that's a good summary :)
This isn't really correct. As far as we know, Musashi is the only ship that doubles as a city. All the other countries have their own respective lands in the Far East.
Mah~ mah~ Don't sweat on the details

It doesn't take hours of processing. Everything that creb pasted off of wikipedia was explained in this episode in more or less the same fassion, except it wasn't a single text wall. The history lesson in this episode also provided more specific details and the exact terminology. Maybe I just take in information well, but it doesn't seem too difficult to me to simply read what's being said.
So from what I udenrtand, it's the sudent who have the power in this world because they can re-enact the Testament ? So it makes Torri Aoi really powerful no ?
No, Toori is not powerful. He was chosen to be president and chancellor because he is viewed as a buffoon who is incompetent and easily manipulated. As explained in episode 1.
Also I saw the info dump (his research and planning for this series) image from Kawakami (dude needs to learn how to use a computer for research).
http://i.imgur.com/NMInb.jpg
In fact, this is just "half" of the setting about Horizon. The other "half" is in his computer :heh:
There are some people saying that they still don't understand about the setting but as a LN reader I can say that you don't have to worry about this. There are some details that I'm only understanding now (some of them were really important btw) and even without that I could get the most important and have (a lot of) fun.

It seems to be a power in law in this world, the Testament Union, who purposely picked up Toori as the Student Council President for his lack of power and general clumsyness. They have the autoriy to do so, and it seems to be convenient for them (Testament Union) to have a looser in charge of the students at Musashi, for political reasons. That was explained at the beginning of training session in episode 01 by Oriotorai sensei, but I wont blame anyone who was more interested in her rear than in her explanations

Aoi Toori is a hidden depth character type. They look lazy, laid back and absolutely useless but they are actually the smartest and most powerful character in the room.
And if you doubt how smart he is. The other guys in the class only talks about boobs, Toori actually did it.

And, I doubt Aoi is another Goto. I see it like this. Aoi has extreme self-confidence and immense charisma. Which are great traits to have when leading. Even if he is dumb as a doorknob and athletically ungifted, when he finally puts those eroges away and gets serious about taking back their homeland, those two character traits of his will be incredibly useful in getting all those students to believe in him and give their 110 percent! :p

So, Masazumi got a lot of exposition in this episode, a lot more than Toori, but we are here forgeting about her... Over some naked guy?????
...Trying to remember the episode, she seems the serious type, concerned about her future as a politician, while Tooris only concern is tomorrow´s party! She also goes into some mumbo-jumbo about family names that i couldnt read very well (damn fast sbs), but I do recall that, as a consequence, she got flat chested. Maybe if she had greater boobs we could be more concerned about her.

Now if only I was born a little later, I'd have thought of publishing my ideas as a light novel, given the quality of novels getting published these days... I stopped myself because of my tendency to infodump, then there's Toaru and Horizon and many others who've made it to anime. Even IS went and blew the charts off even though it was universally panned. :heh:

Much more involving episode the second time around. I'm starting to settle into the groove of this universe a bit, but am still confused as to what exactly the difference between the Divine States and the Harmonic Divine States is. I'm also really continuing to like the setting and the little details put into it as well as the shots of the ships docking and passing each other by. Somehow this setting continues to remind me a bit of Gintama, although with an arguably weaker sense of humour which I'll talk about in a moment.
It seems like only Aoi and his posse are completely batshit insane while the rest of the cast seems vaguely normal and like they've each got a story to tell. Already it looks like the main cast members are going to be Aoi, P-01S and Masazumi Honda who we all get a further glimpse of. Aoi still kind of seems like a goof off while P-01S is our mysterious key character type and Masazumi as a sort of foil to Aoi. Masazumi's back story is pretty messed up and kind of explains how she got to Musashi from Mikawa and why she seems to hate political maneuvering so much despite being good at it. Having to return seems like it's going to bring out some repressed emotions pretty shortly if she runs into her father. She doesn't seem to be too fond of the lord either with him having dismissed all his vassals and ruining her life, but what's the deal with the robot maids they replaced them with? Dare I ask since I know the answer is probably that this came from a light novel. :heh:
As for P-01S, what's the deal with the song she sings and what's going to be the deal with Remorse Way? Some things to look forward to for the next episode along with whatever the lord of Mikawa is planning with his "fireworks".
What I don't really look forward to seeing anymore though are the scenes with Aoi being a pervert. The guys kind of just like a loveable idiot most of the time, but his boob grabbing scene went on way too bloody long this episode and it adds nothing to the story as far as I'm concerned. Not really a fan of the drawn out fan service so I hope it gives way to more of the stuff like we saw in Masazumi's scene or at the very least gets cut down to like a minute of the episode length at most.
In any case I sort of see what people are saying about the light novels not really being light novels. Despite spending an uncomfortable amount of time on boob grabbing, by comparison to your average light novel adaptation I've seen this is a pretty dense plot line and the story hasn't even really kicked in yet. I kind of tend to love shows like this that hint at turning into epic sagas so hopefully this continues to go where I think it's going.
Can't say if it's bad or not bad really.

I think I missed it in this episode, but what was the result of the war between divine states and harmonic divine states?
do read it here (credit to Suzuku for the link) (http://kyoukaisen.tumblr.com/) or I'll copy-paster narrator's summary on ep 1 from horizon.wikia (credit to Marcus H.) (http://genesis-horizon.wikia.com/wiki/Episode_01:_Those_Lined_Up_Before_the_Horizon) for you :
n a distant future, the world began to rewrite its history.
Humans once rose to the heavens like gods.
But they could not bring themselves to stop warring, and lost the power they had.
Thus, they were forced to return to the earth.
But the planet's environment had grown hostile. The Divine States were the only hospitable places left.
In order to regain their former prosperity, they wrote a history book called the Testament.
They separated the Divine States in the real world from its copy, the Harmonic Divine States.
They then proceeded to relive human history.
But the Divine States made a mistake while repeating history in the Middle Ages.
This resulted in the fall of the Harmonic Divine States, inviting other countries to divide and conquer the Far East Divine States.
The kings joined forces with the feudal warlords of the lands.
Currently, the Far East's warriors dispatched around the world are reliving the Warring States Period and the Thirty Years' War Era as they battle for world domination.
