The name "Gaara" means "a monster who loves only himself"- referring to him, who has never received love from anyone; and referring to Shukkaku, the monster who possessed Gaara. That's why Gaara has the kanji for "love" tatooed on his forehead- because he loves only himself.

Gaara's tatoo appears when Shukkaku awakens within him for the first time. This will happen in episode 77. Just wait one week, like nh1-san said :D

no, I mean at the beginning of the scene with yashamaru there's no tat, and at the end there is one. I think it shows some sand swirling toward his forhead or something like that, but I'm not totally sure

ok, actually I just watched it again, and I was wrong ^^; the tatoo I remembered seeing was on the partially transformed gaara that is cut to immediately after that scene. but chibi-gaara *does* grab his head as the camera's pulling back :D
