Kirame Hanada = Richie Benaud for our Commonwealth viewers as both have a voice that strikes of experience and a similar addiction to the 'marvellous' things in life. Continuing the metaphor Teru is like facing the West Indies team from the 1970s & 1980s, an all pace battery with a big scoring back-up that sent many a team into 'nightmare mode', Saki on the other hand represents (to me at least) the Australian team of the recent past flashy and prone to the big comeback victory.

In NND, alot of people said Teru is like a NT-D unit(Destroyer mode). Hence, it has to be something stronger than NT-D.(Using Unicorn Gundam Banshee(Shiraitodai vers.) vs all of the Gundams from all universe. :()
ETA: 2 weeks and 4 days to the final destination.(Episode 12)

So, it's gonna end just like how the series trodded along. :heh:

Well, they can't spoil the finals until then... How was Saki's main storyline? (a.k.a 1 chapter=?? Episodes)
And take note: The last 3 episodes may not air every week. It may air once per month. So lets think of some mahjong questions while we wait for the next one.
Question: If I want to wait for one-sided, what type of tile should I wait?

Question: If I want to wait for one-sided, what type of tile should I wait?
That's highly subjective to your hand and what's been discarded, ideally you'd want it to have been discarded once by someone else, so that it appears "safe", but if it's an 1/9 or honor(dragon/wind) waiting on 0 of them discarded is even better, waiting on a tile while other tiles at 0 discards is ok, but I wouldn't riichi is such a case unless it was necessary, while waiting for a tile that's been discarded 2 to 3 times, is obviously problematic from problematic state point.
Additionally I'd say try to avoid waiting on the dora-indicator tile since that means there is only 3 of that tile in play so your odds are worse by default.

There is a magazine or an article telling us about the 3 extra episodes. Also, from the interview,
9-12 will be Teru time. 13-15 will be the rest of the semis. Probably because they don't want us to see Awai's unknown skill seen from the Season 1 ending(Since 3 episodes is not enough to show Awai's full potential).

A 15-episode anime, that's pretty different.
Not that it necessarily matters much (at least for those of us outside of Japan), but will all 15 episodes be airing on TV, or are the last two or three getting a Bakemonogatari sort of deal?

The extra 3 episodes doesn't seem to be airing on their TV channels. Even the dates of release are not confirmed at this point.
Not sure about this, but even each of the 3 episodes doesn't seem to be of an average anime episode length. It could be longer.

The Saki franchise certainly seems to be aiming to break the mold when it comes to how to do anime adaptations.
On an entirely different note, I no longer have any difficulties telling Kuro and Ako apart. I have Teru to thank for that. :heh: Kuro's involvement in a highly memorable match is making her stand out a lot more for me than she did before.

I wonder... if that was the announcer's team? I remember the other announcer mentioning her team was really powerful 10 years ago.
Here's the real plan on beating Teru:
Play using the +/- 0 game, and piss off Teru. Then strike at her hard.

A question has arisen in my mind regarding next years tournament as to how many teams will be greatly affected by 'retirements' and the suchlike and which key players sadly won't be back next year?

I mostly have a hard time distinguishing Ako and Shizuno when they have the same clothes. And yes... Kuro is very involved and memorable in this match. :innocent::D
Play using the +/- 0 game, and piss off Teru. Then strike at her hard.
Lol ... that plan can be basically be summed up as try to emulate Saki as much as possible or actually be Saki when playing against Teru. :p
Indeed they do. Playing alike is another matter entirely of course.
I think we can safely conclude that they are the same person since they look alike and the timeline of both Akado and Kokaji pro when they were in highschool is perfectly aligned. Akado-sensei was beaten in the semi-final match by someone who become the champion ten years ago. Kokaji-pro's team became the champion ten years ago. :p
The only way they can't be the same person is if Kokaji-pro has an evil twin. :heh:

On the team that is battling on the semi-final...
Achiga would lose only Yuu.
Shiraitodai would suffer a heavy blow considering they are losing Teru and Sumire.
Senriyama would need a roster change considering that they are replacing 3 people = Toki, Ryuuka and Cela would be leaving.
I don't think Shindouji's lineup is revealed just yet.
On the previous season teams
Kiyosumi would only lose one person but that person is Hisa. :(
Ryuumonbuchi would lose no one. Lucky... :)
Tsuruga would lose Yumi and Kanbara aka wahaha
Kazekoshi would lose Mihoko and Miharu

Me: Whats the condition of the Teru's battleship?
Repairman A: No use. We can't stop it. Somemore it is increasing speed and output. It looks like it can fire its GN Positron Cannon soon.
Me: Argh is there anything we can do?
Setsuna: Hey I found some pieces of a picture...
Me: ? Can you try to fix it?
Setsuna: Sure can do. With my... Inno...va...tor's...power...
Me: ??? Are you sick?
Setsuna: Don't worry. Nothing much.
Me: Don't push yourself.
*Setsuna uses his normal eyes to fix it... And it worked.*

Setsuna: Yeah... Guess I should use it occasionally in this world. Its been making me sick.
Me: Still what a nice picture...
Setsuna: Yeah. I hope she can survive this.
Me: Me too. Right lets get back to business. We got to stop this from firing.( She must have known this... Since she equipped her Unicorn Gundam Banshee with all types of defense OP and all types of attack OP... It is a monster.)

A look ahead a turn of one year
Kazekoshi should have the depth to cover this I hope (if they don't then the unthinkable might occur that of a whole generation of students with no Nationals experience at all)
Tsuruga simply must recruit or another school will feature in the final
Ryuumonbuchi will continue to be a threat and might be the upsetter of the apple cart of a major team.
Kiyosumi will hope to find 'someone' next year for going 'back to back'; I can't see Hisa leaving them in the lurch entirely, (perhaps a coaching role?) and they need a few good lads as their performance in the boys bracket is abysmal and Kyoutarou Suga needs the match fitness to provide adequate competition for the girls (this sharpening their skills to legendary levels).
Achiga has potential depth coming on but there is the roadblock with a capital B there as well.
Shiraitodai & 'rebuilding phrase' will feature a lot in the pages of "Mahjong Today" for sure.
Senriyama all I can say is this: That second team better come up to the plate or their streak will be at zero after this year.
Shindouji big question marks appear here.

Looking at the list, it seemed like a lot of teams need rebuilding for next year. On Kiyosumi, I wonder if Nanpo would be joining their team... she would make a good rival for Yuuki considering their respective specialties.

I think everyone has already seen Teru's massacre record, but I noticed something odd it seemed Teru has a higher chance of targeting you if your in 2nd place in the score ranking.
I'll make a list of Teru's ron target:
1st hand : NA
2nd hand : 2nd place
3rd hand : 2nd place
3rd hand 1st repeat : 2nd place
3rd hand 2nd repeat : tsumo
3rd hand 3rd repeat : 2nd place
3rd hand 4th repeat : tsumo
3rd hand 5th repeat : tsumo
3rd hand 6th repeat : 2nd place
Looking at Teru's record she seemed to be targeting those who are 2nd place in the scoring ranking. I wonder if this is an ingrained habit?
It may be a complete coincidence but its important to note if someone has a consistent +/- zero score they will get a 2nd place ranking most of the time. :p

Just rewatched it, if we go by the play record Teru should be targeting Toki but it wasn't apparent in the episode. Of course Toki also has mahjong precognition which allows her to avoid rons so I don't think Teru can target Toki even if she wanted to. :D

Since when? Just this episode....
Key Mission: Strongest
Player Unit: Toki's 00 Gundam
Support: Kirame's Perfect(Wonderful) Zeong.(Zeong has the weird "hairstyle" too.)
Defense: Kuro's Sword Strike(Haven't upgrade.)
Enemy: Teru's Psycho Gundam
Target: Teru's Unicorn Banshee
Condition: Enemy's HP 300%.(It has 2000 HP at 100%.)
Objective: Time out. Fail if you or defense unit dies.
Mission detail: During the 1st round of the match, you just owned Teru's Psycho Gundam. But since then, her aura just came out, which then big reflector bits just came out. Its impossible to defeat her under this condition, so try to evade the enemy as soon as possible.
Kuro: I feel that there is something behind me... Or is it just my imagination?
Well, to simplify this whole mission, Toki is the one who dare to stand up to Teru.

Hey, Hey
If that happend, Teru probably not walking out of the stadium alive due to Ryuuka and the knife in her hand. :heh:
Any episode that begins and ends with boob touching is pretty alright by my books. The rest of the episode was also pretty exciting. Teru continues being the powerhouse I stated she was the week before... and Kuro's still not doing anything to shift the match in favor of those who are the main characters. The idea that Teru's strategy may be a crutch as much as a weapon is pretty interesting. I wonder what was up with Team Kiyosumi at the end. I haven't been following their story in the manga, so catching these brief glimpses of it here intrigues me.
Nice cliffhanger. Toki's forbidden technique. Godspeed.

So, yeah...Teru's onslaught continues, and despite the achiga girls finding what could be an important clue to a flaw in Teru's playstyle, Kuro's limited moves and growing despair ensured the only thing she did in this chapter is to become a example of what happens when you dare sit in the same table as Miyanaga Teru. The poor thing has essentially been broken at this point. Even the WONDERFUL Kirame got hit pretty badly this time around, recieving a heavy blow right before finishing the first half of the match, something she certainly felt, as seen in the images above.
Once again, is up to Toki to try bringing down the giant, but with no success this time, altough she still got to feel her wife's breasts and lap, and I definetly consider that a victory. And we're treated yet to another flashback, yet it's far from boring, because 1) it gives more glorious moments with Toki and Ryuuka, and 2) Proves once for all this is a shounen/seinen in disguise.

Also, it was pretty sweet to see Ryuuka so concerned for Toki, even going as far as making her promise not to unleash her Double Accel again (which is one hell of a death flag, now that I think about it) for being so dangerous to her already frail health. This two are taking yuri in Saki to a whole new level. And of course, I have to mention, Toki's method of proving she's awake :D And Ryuuka didn't mind that much :D:D May I add that doesn't happen in the manga, so once again, thanks to the anime staff for including that delicious extra.
Another important tidbit that was added but much more subtle, was the talk between Kojaki and Kouko about how Teru has indeed taken down players to zero before, therefore ending the match right there. Yes, I know, it has to be below zero for the match to end, but the point stands, this isn't a battle to qualify, is a battle to ensure there's something left to fight for when the storm ends.
And it will only get worse from here.

Okay, what was up with that post-ED sequence? Is it canon?
And yep, all that has been mentioned the 1st ED, about Kuro and Toki comes to this part, where Kuro's power (or curse) and what Toki's limitations are are fully shown to us the audience.
In fact, it really seems like they decided on Teru's character and skill, and fleshed out her opponents in her first match that we will really see in the anime.
From there, the story will then naturally branch out.
More thoughts later.

Well, what will you do when you got high level NT pressure against you? You will surely stunned...
She got owned by Double Riichi... Double riichi actually brings a lot of bad things coming for you... Usually if someone double riichi, there is no way to tell which tiles she may be waiting on as there is only 1 tile which is double riichi to determine... After some rounds then can determine...(Suji or Betaori does not work here.) Which brings me to the question: If Teru's starting tile, and Kirame is sitting where Toki is sitting before the 1st half ends, and Kirame throw the tile Teru wants, which she then ron(At the 1st go-around, no calls, just the first discard.). Is it called renho?(Counted as how many yaku if it is.)
What treatment?
If its Gundam style play, It will be oldtype(Kuro) vs Easy to stand up.(Kirame) and Innovator(Toki) vs NT in Banshee.(Teru)(Based on this episode.)

Renho is a yakuman when you ron off the first round of discards, yes. I assume it's kind of like the opposite of double riichi though in that you have to ron before your first draw--so actually, no, even if Teru played first getting her double riichi and then Kirame played into it within the first round, that would still just be double riichi (+ ippatsu) rather than a Renho yakuman.

Are you talking as if Teru were the dealer (i.e. Teru double riichi's on her first turn, then Kirame deals in to her), or not the dealer (Teru never draws at all)? If Teru double riichi's/is the dealer and Kirame deals in to her, then that's just a double riichi (even if it's within the first go-around), not a Renho. Renho only applies if someone deals into you before you have even drawn/discarded a tile at all.

This was a pretty good episode... but if Teru wins literally every hand next week (after doing so this week, and all but two hands the first week) that's going to be awfully anti-climatic and frankly boring to me. What's the point of spending so much time on Toki like this, and building her up this way, if she doesn't actually get anywhere in the match itself?
And please, people, no spoilers on this.
The cameo appearances at the beginning and end of the episode were really nice. The Toki scenes are great... if they actually lead somewhere even mildly productive.

You don't need a completely one-sided match to accomplish this. I felt sympathy for the catgirl (her name escapes me right now) in Saki vs. Koromo vs. Yumi vs. her, and that match had at least some back-and-forth to it.

Double Riichi Ippatsu huh?
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y135/Majestic_wavemaster/chibitenhou.png
I just watched episde 10, and it can pretty much be summarized as Teru steamrolling the competition, not that I didn't know already.
On the bright side, it looks like Toki has a plan that could topple Teru's current streak. But even if they do stop Teru's dealership, they're still just in the east round, which means that Teru will have yet another turn as a dealer in the south round. They still have a long way to go before they can completely stop the Teru train.
...And then we have Kuro who did just about nothing for the entire episode besides holding on to the dora tiles. Watching her like this was just sad, even if she did provide a wealth of reaction faces throughout the episode.
I'm really looking forward to Subara's obligatory backstory.

Finally managed to watch episode 10. I'm also of the same opinion as Qilin...
I think this episode can be summed up into two words - Teru wins.
I think its a fairly accurate summation considering no one beside Teru has won a single hand in this episode. If I am to compare this to a fighting game Teru managed to last the whole round with a perfect hp by continuing to combo her opponents to the ground. :p
But, I suppose there is still hope. Achiga seemed to have managed to find a chink in Teru's armor. And Toki is planning to use her dangerously forbidden technique to stop Teru. Hopefully, this would be enough. :uhoh:
Though nothing notable happened beside the whole Teru domination. I find that there are a lot of interesting tidbits of information imparted throughout the whole episode.
Info 1: Teru can drop a team below to zero in the vanguard match
I think this is already said by Requiem-x, but there is a very real possibility that Teru will drop a team below zero and in fact already have done so in other matches which is frankly scary considering each team starts at 100,000 points. So yeah, it is possible that the vanguard match is the only match that we would see in the semifinals if Teru keeps dominating. :heh:
I've also realized how lucky Kuro and co are when Teru managed to be seated as first dealer on the first hanchan because Teru using her magical mirror ability at the beginning means she won't win on that round and this means Teru loses one dealership automatically. Considering how hard it is to stop they're lucky that Teru only has 3 available instead of the usual 4.
Info 2 : Teru might have a weakness
Teru who seemed to be invincible at the moment might have a weakness or limitation like Kuro regarding her hand value. It is possible she needs to have a higher value hand than her previous win. Good of Achiga to observe that. Now, all they have to do is find someway to exploit it which is easier said than done. ;)
Info 3: Toki has a dangerous forbidden technique
Toki has a dangerous forbidden technique that will allow her to see twice as much into the future at the cost of her health. Toki then decided to use this technique at the end of the episode. :uhoh:
Truthfully, I hope that Toki will be okay she seemed to be raising deathflags in this episode with her continuous use of her mystic eyes of precognition making her lose her stamina and then using a more strenuous technique that is noted to be even more dangerous to her health. Please Toki hang in there!
Info 4: Toki is a pervert or at least very attracted to Ryuuka
The very first thing that Toki did when she was released from the slaugh - I meant match is bury herself in Ryuuka's breast. Then, she probably spent the whole break period like always sleeping on Ryuuka's thighs.
But, this is not the damming evidence! In the flashback sequence Toki recognized Ryuuka's thighs and even while losing consciousness is familiar enough with it to recognize that its upside-down. I suppose spending as close as 24/7 resting on something will make you an expert on it Toki. ;)
And the best part, Toki's method to know if she's awake or in a dream is to grab Ryuuka's breast. I wonder how the Ryuuka on Toki's dream acts whenever Toki grab her dream breast ... :heh:
Info 5: Not everyone is buying Teru's "I have no sister" spiel
Remember the original season where Teru denies that she has a sister namely Saki. Well, guess what it seemed a lot of people that or at the very least Senriyama is privately suspecting the two are related despite Teru's words. The moment Teru calls a kan, Toki immediately recalls Saki and draws a connection.
I suppose a lot more people are privately nursing doubts despite Teru's claims. It helps that the two player in question resemble each other and have the same surname plus demonic level of mahjong skill. :D

Teru dominates this episode lol... But who knew that that sparks the innovator power in Toki?
Let me go through all the info...
Info 1: If we assume we never read the manga, yes it is quite possible that the match will end with someone going negative, in East 4th round.
Info 2: Well that weakness is the one that may or may not change the decision of info 1. But remember this, Teru resets the points back to noob points, then increase from there again. That weakness is what makes it possible to exploit as...
1. It is quite easy to read what she may have.(... I will leave this out till episode 11 or 12, depending on the situation.)
2. If she riichi, and just nice is 2 han higher if ippatsu tsumo, and needed 2 han to get to next level.(Mangan- Haneman or baiman) Breaking it is quite easy, but we don't know if she will play at same points.
As it gets higher it becomes harder.
Info 3: Get me the Innovators. I need to talk to them personally about the power embedded on Toki, and the situation.
Info 4: Err.... I have nothing to say about this. But if mangatron is here, he will create hell mode here. (You don't want to know the Dream Ryuuka will react.. :heh: :innocent: )
Info 5: Teru's skill make use of all the skills we know in Saki that she can use.(Saki's rinshan kaihou, Koromo's Haitei Raoyue or Hotei, and many more.)
Its quite random since the skill to increase points by points can be any other skills.
If you want to know about hans and fus, and how to calculate them, go wikipedia and search. For now I post this, it will be quite useful during Teru time.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_Mahjong_scoring_rules#Counting_han
Lets take the easy one from here.
Usually if its open chinitsu, it is 5 han(Confirm mangan, regardless of fus.)
If Teru's skill is increase to higher points, and she stopped at open chinitsu, She would either need:
Riichi, toitoi, riichi ippatsu, or tsumo without any open melds.
Note that the fus here after 5 han is usually considered "don't care" as anything higher than 5 han is ..... I leave the calculation to you... I suck at it.
... Though seriously, how they can tell how many fus are there just by looking and knowing it in split second...

If she won every hand someone hit zero for sure due her point increasing due, but more so due to the "Pa-Ren-Chan" rule (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_Mahjong_yaku#Yakuman_hands)(at the bottom of the page) where after winning 7 dealer hands, any hand becomes a yakuman meaning the point loss would almost guarantee to zero someone out.
While I think Teru ending the match via someone hitting Zero is definitely a possibility... I don't think it would happen in episode 11 :p.

The parenchan rule is often optional, we are not sure whether that rule is being used in Saki.
If so, oh great....
Speaking of which, is double yakuman(Tsi ii sou, Dai San Gen) considered double yakuman or still yakuman?
The only thing which I know is that...
-Suu An kou single wait, Thirdteen Orphans 13 way wait, and 4 triplets of winds, or Junsei Nine Gates is still considered yakuman though it is supposed to be double yakuman due to the tournament rules.

Considering the rules of the tournament are commented to "favor" luck I would expect the parenchan rule to be there, and for that hand it should be worth double yakuman, though if the hand became Tsi ii sou and Dai San Gen it is likely such hand would also be Suu An Kou(4 triplets) or Suu Kan Tsu(4 quads/Kans) putting it at a triple or even maybe quadra yakuman I believe :eyespin::uhoh:.
If you want to know about hans and fus, and how to calculate them, go wikipedia and search. For now I post this, it will be quite useful during Teru time.

That section needs to be rewritten to be more clear. When I was trying to learn han and fu count, that article didn't serve me justice. I had to turn elsewhere.

I see... :D
So if I do this,

And if the rules states that Yakuman with Yakuman with considered double yakuman, and so on so forth, I can smell Teru is going to do a heavy hand after Yakuman. :uhoh:

That's 5. If you want 6 -- change Dansaigen to Daisushi. And it'll look like this:
2nsns3d9CuM
NOTE: It's also Suu Ankou Tanki (but apparently, it's only counted as 1, instead of 2).
So. Which Saki character is most likely to pull something like this off? To the best of my knowledge (off of spoilers), Jindai is the winds specialist. So, I'm going to assume she is the most likely to get that.
But of course, like hell, should Ritz even write something THAT ridiculous into the story. A score like that can knock out entire teams, let alone individual players.

In unfortunate that the rules stated "no double Yakuman in this tournament" so we won't see those high point hands.
Too bad for us...
But wait, there's no rules against stacking yakuman with one another, right? It just said "no double yakuman" but it doesn't say you can't have more than 1 yakuman in your hand. :p
For example:
suu ankou tankii probably counts as one yakuman due to the "no double yakuman rule" but it can be probably combined with some yakuman like for ex. "all green yakuman" or "suu kantsu".
So it is possible if you made a hand filled with 4 closed kans of bamboo without a single red in them like the 2, 3, 4, 8, 6 then you can get all 3 yakumans. If you're the dealer this hand would be something like 48,000 x 3 = 144,000.
And I think there are more better combination possible... :heh:

But she's not the final boss. Ideally, she's the hero taking on the final boss. I think a short skirt, in addition to looking more moe, gives a nice 'plucky upstart' look to Saki. It also gives Saki a really nice visual contrast with her sister (one reflective of their very different personalities), which ironically is displayed beautifully in your own avatar. ;)
But I also think the skirt-length change might become fitting if the story continues on beyond Hisa's graduation. A continuation where Saki is now one of the respected vets of Team Kiyosumi, and you get some new plucky upstart joining Team Kiyosumi to give the team the needed 5th girl.

That might take a while, given Ritz's release schedule (both Achiga and mainline Saki are monthly releases :heh:). Some people think that Nodoka and Yuuki's two underclassmen will follow them to Kiyosumi though.
Then again, it might be someone new.

I guess your right... :p
It would be nice if we have another year continuation after the national tournament though there seems to be something going behind the scenes if the "strange rules" of the tournament is anything to go by.
The 3 freshman would be sempais by then and assuming Kiyosumi would be successful in the tournament they will probably get a lot of members. I imagine Yuuki would be the "fun" type sempai, one you barely notice is your senior and will probably be more approachable to her kouhai the most. Nodoka would be the "strict" type who will probably discipline her kouhai, ensure they get good grades, etc. Saki would be the "caring" type of sempai who will indulge her kouhai's wishes the most out of the 3 considering her personality. :D
Same concept behind Kuro dropping a dora. The Teru effect goes away, and thus, the Teru train would end up going in reverse
Ideally this would be the best case scenario that would happen and one that the Achiga team would be hoping for. But, were not sure if this would be the case, the reason Achiga team speculated that Teru might lose her ability if she breaks her presumed taboo which is getting a lower point hand than her last win is because they are familiar with Kuro's ability and probably base their knowledge of mahjong hax on it. But, this is just that speculations and still unproven... there are still other possibilities to consider ...
I've listed what I think would be the best to worst possibility if this would happen:
1. The scenario that Kyuu suggested as I've said above would be the best scenario. If Teru ever wins a hand value lower than her previous win then her ability like Kuro would be unusable for a period of time.
2. The next best case would be is if Teru's combo counter would completely restart from the beginning. Like when Teru is interrupted on her winning streak if Kuro and co. manage to force Teru to win by a smaller hand than last time her next hand would go back to winning by few points and building of again
3. The third best case scenario is if Teru's combo counter would start from the hand value that she last gotten. For example Teru won last time by 24,000 points but this time she only won by 8,000 points. Then, the next time Teru would win a hand larger than 8,000 instead of going back completely to the beginning.
4. The second to the worst scenario is what Scarletknive suggested Teru winning with a lower hand value wouldn't do anything. Using the above example wherein Teru won 24,000 points last time and you somehow managed to force her to win by only 8,000 points. In this scenario, Teru's combo counter wouldn't even restart at all and she will still aim for a hand higher than 24,000.
5. The worst case scenario would be if Teru's playstyle is a handicap just like Saki's +/- zero. To give her opponent a fighting chance, Teru would start her winning streak from smaller to larger hand values. If for some reason you manage to make Teru get a lower point value in this scenario Teru would stop warming up and reveal that she can probably get any hand values consecutively. :heh:
Note: This is the worst case scenario and hopefully won't happen... the match is one-sided enough without Teru getting more hax.
Truthfully, I'm hoping for the option number 2 which is a good limitation of a hax ability without being overly limiting. But, I wouldn't be surprised if number 5 happens considering how hyped Teru is. :D

up·start (pstärt) (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/upstart)
n.
A person of humble origin who attains sudden wealth, power, or importance, especially one made immodest or presumptuous by the change; a parvenu.
adj.
1. Suddenly raised to a position of consequence.
Given how the Achiga girls have been portrayed since the Nationals started, you really think they count as upstarts? :heh:
'Upstart' fits Kiyosumi much better, imo, and it especially fits Saki well since she played such a key role in Kiyosumi gaining that 'upstart' status.
As for 'plucky (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/plucky)'...
adj. pluck·i·er, pluck·i·est
Having or showing courage and spirit in trying circumstances. See Synonyms at brave.
Yeah, I don't think this is applying to Kuro right now. :heh: It fits original season Saki perfectly, though.
Also, "overpowered protagonists" generally don't win by the skin of their teeth, as was the case for Kiyosumi (and Saki) in the original season.

Given how the Achiga girls have been portrayed since the Nationals started, you really think they count as upstarts? :heh:They definitely do in the grand scheme of things. Their school hadn't appeared at the tournament in years, and none of the players were known to anyone (only their coach). They're the very definition of upstarts.
Kiyosumi may also count by the same definition, but some of the players (like Nadoka) already had some fame/renown. So they'd be a team to watch, but I probably wouldn't have called them an "upstart".

Kiyosumi is at the same boat as Achiga, because Kiyosumi also hasn't particpated in any tournaments in the last few years because they never had enough people. The only "known" player that they have is Nodoka, because people don't know that Saki is related to Teru. Teru even denies she has a little sister, so of course they don't know.

Well-said, and that's why I strongly disagree with relentlessflame's assessment that Kiyosumi are not upstarts. They absolutely are upstarts. Heck, they were a mystery school going into their own regional tournament!
At least Achiga had a famous coach, one who had lead her team to the Nationals when she was a player at the same school only a few years ago. They weren't a complete unknown going into their own regional tournament. In fact, that made them a "team to watch", imo. I think it's a bit debatable whether or not Achiga counts as "upstarts".
Kiyosumi fits 'plucky upstarts' better than Achiga does, imo.

By definition, Achiga and Kiyosumi are both upstarts, under different circumstances. Achiga lacks any kind of power player, where as Kiyosumi does. Because they're both upstarts, they're both the featured schools in each series.
Notice, both schools had to go through prefectural tournaments, which featured reputable and perennial schools.

That's probably because of the dream sequence, during which Nodoka has twin-tails. At least for me, that's the scene where I had my most attention on Nodoka (for the scene after the credits, I focused more on Saki and Tacos).
As for what I think of the single sidetail (after re-watching that after-credits scene again), I don't know. I love Nodoka's twin-tails look, but Nodoka would probably look good with almost any hair style. Doesn't always have to end like that, but it happens. Anyway, yeah, in anime, haircut = broken heart (technically, it's supposed to mean "moving on", but that term is often used in romance, and with so much anime involving love, yeah...). Unless you're Nisio Isin, then you're just doing it to troll the hell out of your audience.
Now, I'm trying to remember some characters -- outside the Saki-verse -- who had long hair; but then, something drew them into cutting the hair.
...
...
Ah. Nisemonogatari. And if I remember correctly, it was Karen, just before she gives Araragi a "piggy-back". I forgot what drove her to do that.
But, in the case of Nodoka. Short, pink hair for her won't do her any good. Not yet anyways. Not until she's done with high school maybe.
Now, I'm trying to remember some characters -- outside the Saki-verse -- who had long hair; but then, something drew them into cutting the hair....
From the Aria anime series Aika had her long black hair partly burned in an accident with an outdoor bbq and as a result cut her hair quite short....
In any event, I am looking forward to seeing Toki go into "far-seeing mode".

A thought just occured to me about Teru's/Saki's mom.
We know that Saki, Teru, mom, and pop used to play mahjong together all the time, and the family would get upset if Saki wins too much. That means that the mom is probably very high calibur as well to be playing with these monsters. Eventually, mom and Teru moved to Tokyo.
Could it be that Teru's/Saki's mom is a professional mahjong player?

One Screeny from Episode 10...

Toki: TRANS-AM... Double Accel!
Ribbons: Call the Celestial Being. We got a joint mission to do.
More screenies coming up soon...
Remember how some people look at live stream... I wonder where in this episode did the stream crash. :D
(Hint is easy but I will use some reference to make it not really obvious but still can guess: Toki's Innovator power went beserk, which cause the unstable Twin Drive system in her own body to "overload and malfunction", causing her to faint. After that she did something which cause the stream to crash.(This is not really obvious...)
Seems like....
Setsuna + 00 Gundam(00 Raiser) = Toki.

Hmm, these are hand-efficiency/creation problems, but without any info about your opponents' discards? Still somewhat interesting, but it's tough to say there's a "correct" answer with so little info. The "results" page seems to be based on popularity as well? There is a specific tile and accompanying explanation on the left, but it doesn't look to me to always be very convincing.

Sometimes they did say some conditions. Like someone double riichi or riichi, and you have a tile which is not shown on the pond. Its a test on how you will interpret the situation at the point, although you don't have any info on the other player's tiles.
Usually what will you do when you have a tile not shown on the pond? Keep or throw?

That's probably the most natural/realistic response. And if I'm coming out of being KOed (self-inflicted or otherwise), I'll probably be too disoriented to think of anything more, um, creative. :heh:

In all honesty? I'd probably either a) bite her head off with a "I'M AWAKE, WOMAN", b) give her a dumb half-out-of-it look, or c) ask her what's wrong. If I feel a little bold and frisky I'd go with option d) grab the back of her head and bring her down on top of me with her head next to mine, sort of like a hug.

I assume it's for your opening discard, isn't it?

It depends assuming it doesn't advance your hand and you aren't in tenpai already, if it's a east, south(in their respective rounds), or a dragon I'd probably keep until one was thrown if there was a riichi out, the other winds would depend who called the riichi. If the tile for the opposite side of normal 2 sided wait is already discarded, I'd discard it especially if it's a 1 or 9 and the 3 or 7 had already been discarded unless it was a dora, then I probably wouldn't.

Option C if you want ask whats wrong, if you got watch episode 10, be in Toki's place. You just fainted...
Though option D... :T_T: Don't make me remember whats going to happen next... :T_T: ( I don't want to know... nor even state it here.)

3p or 7p. Betaori technique. But if I were you, I would throw 7p as 3p is paired with single wait types.(1p 2p)
6s may be risky due to the 5s and 7s. He may be waiting on a pair wait through 6s.
Chun is definitely dangerous due to no Chuns spotted. He may be waiting on a double pair or single wait on Chun.

So:
WWYD here :heh:
http://s13.postimage.org/sxd53526b/Tenpai_00.jpg (http://postimage.org/image/sxd53526b/)
2 Choices
Safe:
Discard the 7 pin because it's safest tile due furiten, while allowing you to draw the 4 pin to re-complete the set without furitening yourself (discarding the 3 pin means you're basically giving up on the hand completely)
Risky/Dangerous:
Declare Riichi and discard the red dragon :heh:. Since would allow you to wait on 6 Sou in addition to waiting on the green dragon to win.
But since they're ahead already probably the safe method, since the Risky method would be used when you're behind and needing to make a come back.
Chun is definitely dangerous due to no Chuns spotted. He may be waiting on a double pair or single wait on Chun.
It was kokushi - on the chun.
Ippatsu, as well. :eyespin::heh:

Y'see. There's just something about Ryuuka... where she's a very comforting character, where her role in that regard is obvious. Thing is: she naturally brings about that kind of personality too. Thus, her role with Toki is perfect.

Q. You thought you are dreaming. Usually people will slap their faces when they thought it is a dream. But assuming you are the one who hate to slap yourself, what will you do?Well, I know you're just having fun, but let's please try to keep this thread somewhat off-topic, and not derail too much into random chat. We wouldn't allow threads with these sort of topics, so we don't really need sub-threads here like that either.
Same somewhat applies to the random/unrelated Mahjong examples that are posted here from time-to-time -- Mahjong is obviously very related to the show, but this isn't an all-purpose Mahjong thread either. The conversations need to be somehow related to what's happening in this show. I noticed there's a Japanese Mahjong Social Group (http://forums.animesuki.com/group.php?groupid=764) for those interested.

I don't think is secret information anymore... but they haven't announced yet when the last three episodes will be presented. They won't be continuing on TV immediately after Episode 12, anyway. The most likely scenario is that they will be streamed online in the following months. They should appear on the Blu-Ray/DVDs that'll likely be released in December 2012 and January 2013.

Oh... Teru is definitely missing this.
I think Achiga is mentally conditioning me or perhaps its just the multiple rewatch of Teru slaughte- I meant vanguard match but I think I'm equating Teru's appearance for her opponents as the countdown timer slowly ticking the time you're going to hell. :p

Comparing Teru in normal situation and the bizarro pictures of her in happy land. I think I get it now... bizarro! Teru is missing her expression of perpetual boredom and "you're doomed" aura.
Hmmm... I think I prefer normal Teru, the bizarro picture of her weirds me out. :heh:

There is nothing missing from the comparison picture. Its just to highlight how different the bizarro Teru from her normal character design. As I've said above I just can't see the Miyanagas' in the first set even if I imagine them with their normal facial expression, the design is just very different.

I think I'll just see the picture as Yui and Ui cosplaying their favorite mahjong stars - Teru and Saki respectively, who by that time hopefully would have made up and are happily getting everyone shivering not by fear aura but by sugar overload. :p
Btw, I was wondering around the thread when I came across something interesting posted by Konakaga - its a semi-trollish list of why Teru would reject Saki. So while waiting for the next episode let's play a guessing game. :D

For the lulz I pick the combination of 2, 3 and 5.
Teru holds a lot of buried not-so-sisterly emotions for Saki thus feels that she don't deserve to be her sister. Then, Teru finds that Saki is adopted and since they are not sisters anymore they can legally marry.
The whole thing is then essentially just a misunderstanding since whenever Saki went to visit, Teru is so embarrassed about her feelings that she can't speak giving Saki the wrong impression. And of course Teru tells the media that she doesn't have a sister because she's planning to marry Saki.
When Saki and Teru fight in the nationals they'll settle the misunderstanding and have a heartwarming moment declaring their love for one another. :):p

Is it just me or do most of Achiga's problems lead back to Harue Akado. She has failed them across the board.
Kuro's problem is that her power is a noose around her neck against any good player with stats on her.But I really blame her coach. She sent her like a lamb to slaughter without even warning her about it.The coach is a pro so she must have seen the holes in Kuro game and that she would implode at the national level but she did nothing about it.
Yuu on the other hand could be a terror if she was just a better player.Again I blame the coach.Yuu, I think would have benefited from intense training against a pro who knew her style but from how she acted when she had to switch styles that had never happened.Of course of all the girls she would be the easiest to give a super power-up to in an emergency. We have never seen her play when she was warm.If they could arrange it some how it might have a Full Moon effect on her.

First of all. We do not see any evidence of player rotation. And too bad there isn't any player rotation. Otherwise, I would have sent either Arata or Ako first against Teru. Shizu would be nice too, but she's better off as the closer.
Second of all. Kuro playing first allowed the Achiga team to get this far in the first place, where her playing style produced some kind of "shock effect" to other teams with her dora magnet. Of course, this was nullified when Senriyama figured it out; and likewise, Teru sees right through her.
Thirdly. We have no real clue as to how they handled training throughout this series, prior to the Nationals. All that detail was fluffed through in order to squeeze the whole series into 12 (now 15) episodes. With Harue being a minor pro. -- even she should have access to a mahjong pro. and subject the Achiga girls to that kind of beating.

I don't know quite what to say about this. Given the sister's extreme specialization compared to any other players who appeared in both Saki series (except possibly Maho), I really don't believe anyone could have helped the two out in any case. Furthermore, when we consider the superpowers involved in Saki, I doubt anyone except our Buuchou could have done anything to radically upgrade Kuro and Yuu.

Tell me something... We know that Yuu's skill is quite flexible... But Kuro's skill is very limited. No matter how Buuchou tries to upgrade her, the skill will cause her to go backfire and make her go her old ways...
Well, unless Kuro can upgrade her own power, I don't see how can she improve herself better than this.

That is, if she is safe from any rons...(Note: Not ALL will riichi when hit tenpai, Teru may have a tanyao hand but she may not need to riichi, what happen if Teru gets the dora? Lets say she start the streak with 20 fu 1 han. Adding 1 Dora will increase the han by 1, which is a safe range for her, as her winning hand's fus and hans increases per consecutive wins.)
If the other 3 riichi, unless they are waiting on 2 way wait, there is no way the dora tiles are dangerous.

It's the sales ranking in the Amazon.co.jp store at the time, but they've reversed it because lower ranks are worse and higher ranks are better.
In a sense this is sort of pointless because what reason is there to pre-order the first volume Blu-Ray months and months ahead of time? Does it really coincide with when episodes air and people just decide in that moment "I'm going to order the Blu-Ray on Amazon now even though it won't come out until June!"? It stands to reason that more people will pre-order the Blu-Ray as it gets closer to its June release date, notwithstanding whatever the content of the show is that particular week.
So yeah... it's cute, but I don't think it tells us much.

There may not have been much that she could have done for Kuro but she could have at least tried to prepare her mentally instead of letting it hit her like a truck in the tournament itself.
Yuu on the other hand with her mode shifting could be a real terror, I think from my limited understanding of the game. She is much harder to box in then Kuro and has a lot of options open for her hands.

Huh. That makes a lot of sense.
However, I'd say that it can a good enough indicator of how well a show is doing in general by how it compares to other airing shows and the nature of the fluctuations in the chart. Of course, it's a bit presumptuous, but a good deal of data can be extracted from such a chart.

Of course, it's a bit presumptuous, but a good deal of data can be extracted from such a chart. You're right -- it can be useful as a point of comparison, particularly if, say, you had two shows that were airing in the same season and whose first volume was being released around the same time. Of course, it's worth remembering that this is only Amazon.
The other thing of note about the timeline in particular is that the point where it spiked was around the time they announced that the Blu-Ray would include a ticket to a special event. That is of course not indicated on the timeline, which only shows the episodes. So you might look at that and think "wow, everyone started liking the show after episode 7!"... but external factors were at play.
So yeah... something can be gleaned, but not too much without further data and context.

So, does anyone know how many Blu-Rays have actually been sold? Seems like the first Blu-Ray was released on June 13, so first week sales rate should have been out by now. If I remember correctly, the original Saki dvds sold around 7,000~10,000 per volume, so I'm curious about how well this one will do.
+ I looked it up, and since Saki Achiga-hen isn't among the 11th-17th Blu-Ray & DVD Rankings, I suppose it should be out a few days later with the 18th-24th Rankings.

And whats a "sequel rot" factor?
It generally means that any given sequel will have lower sales overall than the series that preceded it. This is because many of the casual watchers will usually moved on since then (especially if there's a significant gap of times between shows), and as such won't be buying the DVDs/BRs of the sequel.
And honestly, anything more than two years is already a long time for anime watchers.

Is it just me or do most of Achiga's problems lead back to Harue Akado. She has failed them across the board.
I don't think she's been that bad.
Akado made sure that her team studied up extensively on their opponents, and she even helped ensure that her team would get to compete/practice against good schools from other regions. When it comes to team-based preparation, Akado couldn't have done much better.
And Akado telling Kuro how to adapt her style is a bit risky. In real life, I know of pro sports coaches that tried to micromanage their players to address weaknesses in their games, and it often backfires.
Where I do think Akado has missed the boat a bit is in not factoring in the psychological aspect of the competition... and this is a particularly bad oversight on Akado's part because she herself was overwhelmed (in large part) by the psychological aspect of competition.
Kuro's mental toughness is simply not what it should be. Granted, just about anybody would start to get depressed and maybe get flustered a bit by facing somebody of Teru's caliber, but the difference between how Toki/Miss Marvelous are handling it, and how Kuro is handling it, is notable. Kuro is not handling things (so far) anywhere near as well as Toki/Miss Marvelous are.
This is either a failure due to not enough proper psychological preparation, or Kuro just doesn't have it. And if Kuro just doesn't have it, she shouldn't be in the lead-off position. The two most high-pressured positions are fifth (because there's nobody coming after you that could conceivably turn things around if you fail; it's now all on you) and first (because it's up to you to try to get the match off to a good start for your team, and any massive one-and-done loss will leave your teammates pissed since they never even got a chance to compete).
For this reason, Shizuno is her team's ideal choice for fifth (so good job there, at least), because she seems to thrive on high pressure situations, and she will not quit. The lead-off should be someone that is good at getting fast starts (this is why Tacos has this role for her team) but is also somebody that's good at minimizing loss when things go sour... and that calls for mental toughness (admittedly, Tacos isn't that great here herself :heh: ).
Based on what we've seen so far (which admittedly is not a whole lot), I think that Arata has excellent mental toughness, and might be better suited for lead-off than Kuro is. In fairness, it might not have mattered a whole lot against Teru.

I'm just curious... given the fact she played for a corporate team, wouldn't Akado know of a player or two who could help in the "mental conditioning" department? I mean, Hisa just happened to know a pro who she could ask a favor of at a moment's notice, and she's still in high school and never really played at a national level... Given the strong sense of familiarity the Achiga girls have with Akado, I don't think she'd have quite the same effect on them as Fujita had on Nodoka and Saki.
Of course, this is all just random speculation on my part. :heh:
As for Arata being placed first... she was made president almost entirely because she's mentally the strongest, so having her start things off would probably have been a better idea... but I don't know how much better she'd be doing against Teru, given the fact all I really know about her is that Hiroko couldn't analyze her even after playing against her and that she really likes bowling. And the fact she's got a crush on Akado, but that's got little to do with her mahjong playing.

Is that character poll still ongoing? Vote count seems pretty low. Anyway, the first three places are Toki, Kuro, and Ryuuka respectively; my name recognition isn't good enough to pick out the others.
edit:
On mental endurance and Kuro's placement as the "ace"; say what you will about Kuro's fighting spirit, but I believe Kuro's position was highly important for at least Achiga's initial run through the nationals due to being by far the heaviest hitter on Achiga's team in terms of offensive power. None of the other Achiga players approach the point totals Kuro earned with her dora bombs; so I do think Kuro's placement was appropriate.
As far as mental endurance in terms of its importance in opposing Teru; the problem as I see it is that it is basically in the nature of Teru herself that determination alone should not be enough to beat her. Otherwise, she would not be known as the type of monster that she is. Certainly, it is important not to give up if any player wants to stand any chance at surviving her, but then I do not think Kuro's mental weakness is so great as to have fallen that far either. The actual factor, from my perspective, which is most important in this vs. Teru Vanguard match is actually the question of basic competence. And in that regard, even if Kuro does have certain notable weaknesses and is also clearly lacking in this area against Teru, I honestly think that to this point the damage has been minimal (Kuro has only been directly ronned by Teru once, after all) and am not certain whether any of the other Achiga members would've fared better.

Saki is probably her team's heaviest hitter (and if it's not her, it's Nodoka), and Saki and Nodoka go 5th and 4th respectively.
A heavy hitter is going to help wherever you put them... as long as they actually do the heavy hitting of course (more on that in a bit).
I probably wouldn't want to lead-off with my ace, unless my ace also has excellent mental toughness (even then it's a bit high-risk/high-reward, barring unusual exceptions like Teru). If your ace happens to have a disastrous match in the Vanguard position (like we've seen Kuro suffer through twice now - not just against Teru, but also against Toki the previous round), that just puts immense pressure on the rest of your team, and really puts them behind the 8-ball.
Another factor for me is that Kuro's heavy hitting is basically being wasted here. She could quite conceivably do much better against different opponents other than Teru and/or Toki.
tsunade666
2012-06-24, 09:07
But Kuro did good at the other battles but that itself could be a problem of planning on the placement of players and strategy. I could see Achiga doing a hit and run style with earning huge score from the beginning and protect it till the end.
Saki's style shines at the near end of the battle with her skill in controlling the out put of the score to just barely win against the opponent or to completely dominate them. Saki is indeed a heavy hitter one but I think Yuuki hits a lot bigger than Nodoka. Nodoka is good at balancing the game and has good defense and offense but Yuuki in her monster state is a better earner of points. Look at the first season individual tournament. She scores the biggest when she's on the role. Plus in the psp game she also hits hard >_>
:twitch: I don't know Kuro is 2nd... How is she 2nd when she is useless?(Against Teru or Toki.)
If people like her, they vote her. That's it. This is popular vote after all.
Being useless doesn't mean she's unlikable. There are many way to like a character. Some may feel sorry for her. Some may like her looking. Some may like her VA (Kana). Some people may like her because they enjoy watching her get destroyed by Toki or Teru.
Do you remember Yae (The bansai girl who lost to Kuro)? She's quite popular right now because people like how she talked big but lost easily. She gets a lot of parody fanarts.

Actually I notice that the RAWs are already out. Given my trouble with mahjong terminology, I'll just wait a few hours for the subs, but for those who ARE familiar they can grab it already.
It's also out on Crunchyroll if people have access/a subbscription there
edit:
@the last scene:
BOOM EXPLOSIONS. This series excels at being ridiculous like no other, but we all love it for it. :p
It's amazing how taciturn Teru's been this whole match. She speaks more through the whirlwind on her arm than her voice, a force of nature in human form. While this week did expand on Toki's backstory even more, but my favorite part was seeing a bit of Kirame's. She appears to be her team's Shizu, an ultra-determined go-getter, but less flammable. The effects for Toki's Double Accel were really cool, and while the cliffhanger was nearly identical to last week's, the scale does feel noticeably larger. You'd almost forget Kuro was at the table, but Toki and Kirame acknowledging her skill was a small, heartwarming moment.
I wonder what it is that caused Saki to stay outside the hall, though I have my suspicions it has something to do with Teru. Maybe those three bonus episodes will all have to do with the rest of Shiraitodai, because the finale, and the last several episodes, have all been focusing on just the first player. It makes sense why, Teru's a monster.
But if that triumphant music in the preview is any indication, she's a monster they can stop. Not beat, but stop. And that's a victory in itself.

What an episode! To glorious for words. We finally get to see Hisa and Mako as well and some more of the first years. That preview has me anticpating quite a bite. We get kid Yuu and what looks to be her mother, a mysterious women, and what looks to be middle school Toki and Ryuuka :meh:

OK, Toki. Let's see what you can do.
And the episode preview. That's the darkest soundtrack used in the entire franchise. The title of "Promise"; well, that's going to address the various promises applied to each player, particularly Kuro and/or Toki.
Will Kuro actually drop a dora? :uhoh:

We finally get to see Bucchou. And, no, the show is still on Toki, with Kiyosumi on the side.

...Wow.
No, seriously, wow.
This episode. Just... this episode. My heart was pounding hard at the end. Seriously, only the top moments of fate/zero come close to this. If that means there's somethig wrong with me, I never want to be right.
First of all, both remaining manga chapters were adapted perfectly. Yes, I know Teru didn't look as terrifying as she did in some pages of the manga, but who cares?
Literally from the get go we get a new BGM, and it sounds like something you'd hear while Goku is making a genkidama or someone is about to die in saint seiya, and rightfully so, because Toki actually went beyond her limits by pulling Double Accel, and it passed toll on her inmediatly, but at least she managed to stop Teru's streak a second time.
And then it all went tumbling down. She literally blacked out for a while there!:twitch: Well, at least we were treated with another awesome Senriyama flashback, just so anime viewers can see how strong the bonds of this team are. Seriously, they're the Ryuumonbuchi of side A, and in case someone forgot, two of their members are actual family! And of course, more bonding with Ryuuka, which is always nice.
Having already read the manga, I knew what was going to happen (mostly), but Toki still looked like a wreck to me, especially by the end, she really is on her last legs in every possibe sense, literally giving all of her soul and body for this.
Toki:T_T:
And to top it all off, Ryuuka actually lost it after seeing her beloved destroy herself on national TV. This did NOT happen in the manga, by the way, but my god, did every fan want to see it, and it was just as heartwrenching as we all expected it to be.
TOKIIIIIIII:T_T::T_T::T_T::T_T:
Another thing the manga didn't show, Sera actually looking sad about losing the nationals in that flashback. It was a detail, but a meaningful, especially because you got to see someone so irremediably genki being so sad. It really helped drive the point home.
Of course, there's someone else who deserves mention
SUBARA!!
At long last, Kirame's flashback! Can you all understand why some here loved her from the beginning? Just to let it clear, Kirame's ability is endure, and she's being used as nothing more than a sacrificial pawn, but she's still happy to do it if it means being useful to the team. Not only that, she's not willing to let anyone go below zero, because that's not how she want things to go, that being probably a big reason why she's been helping Toki all along, to the point they could even read each others thoughts at one point through simple teamwork.
Hanada Kirame: Bro, badass, WONDERFUL:cool:
And yes, Kuro has been useful after all, though not intentionally, but hey, a bone is a bone.
And of course, I can't stop mentioning
The Kiyosumi gang appearance in this episode, because hey, Nodoka and crew are actually goingto the semifinals. Ahhhh, Shizu, your lover is so close!
Another small detail that was prtty nice, was Saki refusing to enter because of knowing who's playing during that match, and Nodoka kind of getting the reason, or at least there's something big behind her refusal. It helps remember why Saki is here and just how big this is to her.
Oh, and nice touch on remembering Saki and Nodoka are now in first name basis.
And of course, there's the other part with Mihoko, Kana, Mako, and pimp extraordinaire Hisa checking out the match, with Hisa making a really good question.
How are they going to handle Teru if they get that far?
Hisa, you better crank up the swag dial to eleven. Kiyosumi will need it.
A little doubt, by the way, who was that woman who recognized Nodoka and Yuuki in the end? I don't remember.
And of course, there was the final piece to complete this amazing episode.
The preview didn't spoil anything! YES!:D:D:D
We did see one very ominous image of our beloved X-rounder/Innovator/whatever the hell she is at this point, but considering how things are, I don't thinkthat's much of a spoiler.

@ Requiem-X. The one who noticed Yuuki and Nodoka was the reporter Junko from the first season.
