As a test, instead of a multiple choice vote, you can vote for one character only. As usual, your vote is final once you click on the "vote now" tab so choose wisely!

Given that I was the one that requested this thread, I probably should be one of the first to vote.
I like the entire main character cast, and I think that they all work really well together.
For me, though, the strongest spices in the final dish are Ritsu and Yui. Those are the two characters that I simply find the most entertaining.
Ritsu's edge, imo, is that she has a bit more of a "down to Earth" side to her than Yui does. You probably get more "serious Ritsu" moments than "serious Yui" moments.
Yui's edge, imo, is that I actually find her to be an excellent stand-up comedian whenever the anime uses her in an "addressing the crowd" role. I've even compared her to Will Ferrell in this regard. :heh:
For me, it's a really tough choice between these two, but I have to settle on Yui. Yui is the wild-card, the goofball, the one who's totally unpredictable. At least that's how I see her. So that's why she has my vote in this.

Mugi. Since despite her lack of screen time, she has a lot of unseen and unexpected traits, not to mention a great personality.
- The most experienced in music: Or should I say the one who has the longest experience with music. Played piano since four, and won several concurs since little.
- Skilled and Talented: Could cook very well, proficient at making teas and cakes, also could draw very well (her poster is the one chosen by Ritsu to promote the club) and of course that sandcastle thingy, lol :D She also knows many things. (How to take care a turtle pet, how to sew, speak Kansai dialect and also many general knowledges. Her academic capability is only second to Mio), she also has a quick progress in learning guitar, as noted by Azusa.
- "Background" Player: The backbone of the club. From setting the characteristic habit of the club (having tea and cakes, the name of the band originates from this habit), providing occasional financial support, the music composer of the club, and also the event organizer of many activities (like class 3-2's Romeo and Juliet and also Mio's Tea Party).
- Heart of Gold: She seems to be the one who knows and cares the most about her friends, very sociable (could get along with her classmates very well, like Ritsu). Very flexible in joining the "joking around" side (Yui and Ritsu) or the serious side (Mio and Azusa) although she seems to prefer the lazy side :D She's also very "down to earth" despite her wealth. Loves to live as a commoner and work hard.
- Comedic: Her arm strength, high body temperature, immune to cold, could read minds, and also very clueless when it comes to herself. Also a bribemaster in the manga :D She's also great at throwing jokes. Even Ritsu finds it very difficult to play tsukkomi against her.
I believe there are more, but that's all I could remember for the moment. :D
Despite what I say about her, I think this poll will end in her having the least voters ;)
I'll say Mugi because she's gotten to be more interesting of late.

Although I also like Mugi, and Azusa-nyan has her moments: I went with my favorite Afterschool Tea Time member, Mio Akiyama the bassist.
Reasons:
- She often is the voice of reason for the band when they weren't as motivated to practice.
- She is so very cute when she gets embarrassed or scared of barnacles. And I also cannot watch horror movies.
- She is the bassist, and I love the bass. Also she is the most in-rhythm of the group, I think.
-She is the main lyricist and song writer for the group, and I mean c'mon who doesn't like fuwa fuwa time.

I'm having difficulty in deciding who to vote for. I've never really had an overall favourite character, very much liked them all equally.
The contrasts between the individual personalities and how they interact with each other is what made this anime enjoyable for me.
Looks like I'll be abstaining for now, but if I had to pick, my vote is leaning towards Mio.
EDIT: In the end... I voted Mio. She's the character whom I can relate to the most. :)

For me this is a no-brainer: Yui.
Why? Well, technically, a character of her type may not be that unique, if at all. But there is something about her that makes her moé in my eyes probably in the same way that some people like Mio, which I never quite understood.
She is cute in an endearing way but doesn't seem fake. Her gluttonous appetite is one thing I can relate to, and I like how she doesn't feel bad about it but enjoys life. The way that she picks up things and masters them without much effort might be annoying to some, but the innocent demeanor and overflowing love for her friends balance that out and rather make it a plus, even.
Another thing - she gets to be in all kinds of fun situations. Of course, she shouldn't get all the credit for that but it's plain fun to see her laze around and get fed by Ui, sleep with Gitah etc. I like how she can live a completely carefree life and find it relaxing to watch.
Last but not the least I simply adore her cute voice and her looks. I've got no complex explanations as far as that goes.

I voted for Kotobuki Tsumugi. She may get the least development of the girls, but I find something very charming about her personality, particularly the way she seems fascinated with the way her comparatively poorer friends live.
Plus, she seems to believe that sweets are the solution to everything, and that's something I can get behind. :p

Azusa Nakano of course, she made me love the second season, I found her personality the best and to be most cute generally, and really liked how she started out resisting their antics despite secretly liking them, and to give eventually :heh:. Plus she's one of my favorite characters ever ;).

Yui! She's one of my all-time favorite female characters, behind only Sheryl, Taiga, and Rukia. Her fun and care-free personality is so enjoyable to watch. She's the best friend I wish I had. :)

Ritsu, no doubt there.
She is energetic and the main reason why we even have this show because she is the one who got them all together.
Not counting Yui, she is the main joker of the show who keeps all the fun coming. She can be shy but not to ridiculouse level like Mio. Besides without Ritsu, Mio would be no one. She is the one who keeps encorouging Mio and who brings her to the light with all her antics.
And she is always ready to help.
Mio for me, always been my fav

I like Mio because of her voice. She's also very amusing and amazing most times. I like the others as well but I like Mio more. I think because she's also left-handed like me I can relate to her to because of those rare left-handed things in the world.
It would be better if this was a closed poll. I want to vote for Asuza but at this point it's pretty much a wasted vote. Guess I'll vote for Yui in 2 days. Gotta watch how it is at the last second. :p
It's still the same since the first time I watched Episode 13... Ritsu... :heh:

No, not based off of Animesuki polls, I've been seeing surging popularity of Azunyan and Yui other places. Now that I look again, Azunyan scored surprisingly low here. But then again there were only ~40 voters, not enough to be a reliable representative group.

agreed. Mio has tons of haters that's why, just to spite her, they're voting for either yui or azusa even though not much people like them as their favorites.

No offence to anyone but I'm very sad to see Mio in the lead again... Yui is not my fave but if I had to choose I would prefer her to lead.
Except being a scary cat, Mio doesn't really have anything interesting about her in my opinion =/
And even being scared of everything is getting old...
Beauty and a good singing voice. Also plays bass.
I picked Mugi though because she's become more interesting of late, mainly via the introduction of one of her servants into Azusa's third year of High School.

it's so tiring to see how people kept on looking for mio's flaws and saying nothing's interesting about her. C'mon man, mio sings a LOT better than yui. She plays the bass, she's left-handed, she can be a reliable person too
i wonder if yui-just-being-the-main-heroine is the main reason why people want her to lead. it doesn't go that way, Main character doesn't always equal most popular
and,it's not like air-headedness isn't getting old as well

Dude, stop being such a bad sport. If you hadn't noticed, Mio's position here has been quite strong for a very long time. Take a look at this:
First season poll #1 (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=2390119#post2390119): Mio (more than twice as much votes as Yui)
First season poll #2 (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=2495409#post2495409): Mio (still far in the lead, but Yui is closing in)
Second season poll #1 (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=3276410#post3276410): Azusa (and the rest were pretty close calls)
Current poll: Mio
We know the third poll had issues with troll votes (though they were dealt with and the poll adjusted), but all the others look legit to me. And only in that same poll did Mio lose to Yui (though only by one vote), so I'd say the Yui-fans have more to complain about than you do.
The only times Yui truly won was in more official polls, like this one (http://yunakiti.blog79.fc2.com/blog-entry-6093.html) from NewType.
So, are you going to tell me now that all the K-ON! polls (both official and unofficial) were rigged?

You make a baseless claim about Azusa losing to Yui, which gives me the impression that you're sore about Yui getting so many votes still, implying that you think she deserves far less. azusa during this point,i still think should have more votes than that. i wouldn't want to pinpoint,but i recall someone giving his vote to yui albeit he likes azusa more.

haha. i was gonna vote, but it seems that the polls are closed... hmmmm, why does this always happen? (don't answer that).
i don't really dig there internet polls, or local polls or elections for that matter. and when i do, i either vote for the very first name that comes to mind, or don't vote at all (again, stating the reason above).
but if i were to vote, now, i would go for probably Mugi. (actually thought about this long and hard). i mean, i can see myself in her, a character who doesn't get much of the spotlight, but is always there for the group. (and i also wanna be rich)
come to think of it, i just started liking Mugi after her spotlight ep in S2. (ep 13?). and just recently realized that she really has a freakin' awesome voice, the reason why i like her songs (like her character image songs, which for my opinion, was better that her last one, and better than others. heck, my recent guitar cover was "Honey Sweet Teatime", which made me appreciate her more). well, at least that's my opinion, even if no one really asked about it...
(this poll was not created to see which character is the best, nor to compare one character to the rest. i believe this is created for the better appreciation of k-on) i mean, that is only my opinion. i respect your own

If I'd come here two weeks ago, I would have voted for Azusa and Yui. I like both Mio and Ritsu a lot also, Mio moreso than Ritsu. Tsumugi grew on me a lot during the second season, particularly after she got her spotlight episode in 14 (I was more indifferent to her during the first), but she's still probably my least favorite of the group.

Because this poll was strictly for the main characters only, and also only 1 vote was allowed (different from previous polls where we could pick 3 characters) :)

Well, I think there are many things contributing to this. That reason you wrote is one of them IMO :p what we like isn't necessarily the "best" (in terms of certain quality) one. For example, my favorite is Mugi, but of course, I think it's Yui who represents the series best and is the most talented one :D and if I'm asked who is the most likeable, I'll go for Azusa :)
Another reason is that ava n sig doesn't really represent our preferences IMO. There are people who just like to change their ava n sig whenever they find a good picture, regardless the character :) , there are also some of them who only uses their favorite characters for their ava n sig (not always their most favorite, sometimes their 2nd favorite, their 3rd, or even a group picture).
Well only 54 responces, where the other polls wer multiple choice...adn closer to the actual airing of the show. Come December thing will pick up again.

there's certainly nothing weird about that. yes, i have a Yui avatar, and yes, i would vote for Mugi in this poll (if i can anyways). i don't find it weird. in my case, i have a Yui avatar because i'm a regular at the tabs and sheet music thread, and i play the guitar. this made me choose between Yui and Azusa as my avatar pics. well, picking Azusa makes me squeamish, because she is a really awesome guitarist (which i am not). so, Yui it is. she's a guitarist, a hard-worker (sometimes), and downright adorable. and i really like Yui's personality, being one of my favorites.
but the reason i chose Mugi as my fav is because i haven't expected myself to like her personality this much. because way back in s1, it was like, "Uhmmm, Mugi? well, she's okay i guess". if there was a poll back in Season 1, i would probably vote for either Yui or Mio. but it changed in S2, as i see more of myself in her... again, the reason i posted above in my previous post...

Mugi used to be my least favorite of the main 5 since she's kinda strange and never seemed as close to the others, so it felt like we didn't know her that well. But over time she's grown on me, especially once I went back and watched the show through again.
In any case my choice of Yui for avatar is mostly because this image was already square so I just shrunk it down and used it. Maybe I'll switch, that would probably be fun.

4 K-On girls in the Top 10... that's pretty darn impressive.
Oddly enough, I don't even recognize the girl in the No. 4 slot. My tentative guess is that she's a major female character in an anime movie that just came out, and which I have yet to see.
Blood-C's Saya continuing to be so high is interesting.
Anyway, big congrats to the top girl Yui! Pretty amazing she's even holding off Saber during the heights of Fate/Zero hype.

As for this poll: it's clear the K-ON! movie is coming soon. I don't see any other reason as to why the girls are dominating again, let alone four of them.
