View Full Version : Do you ever get curious about closed threads?

JAppi

What I mean is, have you ever decided to read a thread just because it was locked?

Sometimes the mods come up with funny and creative ways of closing threads ^_^ My personal favourite is the "thread glocked" one! Hurrah for Ashibaka for making that graphic!

(Hmm, what a poor attempt at a useful thread :'()

Yes! I make sure I read just about every locked thread I see. The moderators sometimes make some pretty interesting comments. I'd say my favorite one thus far is NoSanninWa's "I'm closing this thread for excessive stupidity."

Yes, it is a poor attempt at a useful thread. Very, very poor... *scolds JAppi some more* I also don't think you've done enough ff7799ification to it. You need to work on that too.

I personally like NoSanninWa's closing of the recent riddle thread.

Edit by NoSanninWa: Yeah.... I was proud of that one also. Solve That Riddle?

I probably would have enjoyed the riddle closing more if I hadn't been about to submit my post with what I thought was the answer. ROFL But it was pretty good. I tend to read locked threads out of curiousity, but often feel dumber for having done so.

Sorry, I used good grammar :( and I should have ended it with a !!!!

Everyone! Please forgive me!

I wonder what will happen if this thread gets closed and everyone reads it later?

For links to threads that have been closed, just check out all the threads I've created. (Something like 1 in 3 of them are locked :()

The worst part of closed threads is the dreaded write a long meaningful reply only to press the button and realize that it's been closed!

Yes They're usualy the most intresting threads. Never missed one ^^

As for the Mods intresting comment it depends..

I think NoSanninWa can be a little harsh sometimes,

but that just my opinion. I like (Him-Her or that epicurian) anyway.

All closed threads are good exept when its yours ^_______________^

Has anyone ever noticed the growing trend in mods with genders we cannot decipher?

That would be the sole reason for me to read a specific thread at all most of the time. I mean what's better then a nice evening in front of your pc, some popcorn and a random alcoholic :nono: drink, nice music of random genre and browsing through deliciously massive flame wars with an equally vicious and gloriously sarcastic thread-close no jutsu?
BTW my personal favs are the thread kills of xris and NoSanninWa, but that's just the subjective opinion of my humble self^^
Ohh, plus the thread doesn't need to be flame war at all, as long as it is really silly :heh:

I go to the close threads first. The best ones are the ones that don't get closed right away but after a few pages.

That's happenned to me a couple times...and both times i was completely confused as to why my post wouldn't go through...one time i think i tried posting it like 2 or 3 times before i realized the thread was closed :heh:

and as for closed threads...if i read it from the beginning then i'll read the majority of the posts...or just look for quotes and see people's replies...other then that...i just go to the last page and see what the last comment on there was...for the most part it's just the mod's comment that i'm curious about

I like to read the first page or two to find out what it was orginally about then I'll go to the last page and work my way backwards until I can find out where the flame war started.

Yeah, locked threads are sometimes interesting. I use the very handy little feature where you hover over a topic title and you can see the first post... so then I see if it's interesting and then I go and read and learn. Hehe. Apparently I don't learn enough because I still can get threads of mine locked, even though I've only made like less than 10 threads on Animesuki in my entire life. :(

Of course, some are really not interesting....

I have to agree too, the mods here are really good at making witty closing comments :). Really cool.

(And for the record, I'd be very surprised if NoSanninWa, xris, Dranz, ElvenPath/Sway/AST/whateverthehell, Keitaro, Lefteris_D, Rama, Flash_Squirrel, GHDpro, Mb81 and NightWish were girls.)
(I don't know who Animaniac is and I'm pretty sure Hellychan is a girl.)

It's quite obvious that all the mods are guys except Hellychan.
You just need to read them to see it through their speech ;)

And to tell you the truth I'm very relieved we have such nice, tolerant, relatively level-headed mods here because imagine if we had kcl822 as a mod... oh gosh, I'd have to borrow an entire censorship board from a country, and JAppi would have been killed a few thousand times by now :).

Now I know if she sees this she's going to hit me with something...

Sometimes it's sad when a thread is going on quite fine but then because of some posts it gets locked. Sometimes those posts are deleted and the thread left open, but then someone bitches about it again and the thread gets closed...

gravitation
2004-04-04, 03:57
Ahhh yay! Locked threads:D One of the best kind of threads :P ... most of the time i will just skip to the end of the thread to see the witty comment but if its interesting enough i will skim it!

Men on the other side like to say the are manly and usualy say it loud..

Thats why I think NoSanninWa is a girl.

Maybe if he's a man he'll react over this and finaly tell :heh:

Well actually NoSanninWa doesn't seems to are about this, you can call him a guy/girl even if it's wrong you won't see any answer :p

Its actualy been said once if its a guy or a girl :)
Go forth and search :)
As far as closing threads go I am sometimes curious if its a weeee... OK for the larger part based on their personal feelings 2 the person and not if its actualy a fun or usefull post...
I mean I have seen some seriously stupid threads get through and some others locked for no particular reason

I don't care what the thread is about if it got closed i'm gonna read it for sure :)

Usually the comments are so cool :) I especially loved the one where xris closed an april fools thread saying something like (can't remember exactly) :" you have now won a luxury 7 vacation away from animesuki, enjoy. Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna look for some more lucky winners" :heh:

I am very curious about deleted threads however, I always wonder how bad did it get that it didn't get closed but actually deleted :)

Okay, not really. In truth most of the posts I delete are boring. Though some of them are the really mean ones Moon wants to see.

Generally I home in on the locked threads first, precisely because of the snarky closing comments.

Not all the locked threads have snark, though. A lot of them are friendly reminders to use the Search function, or redirecting to another board (why is it that some threads are moved, and others locked?). Quite a significant portion is the tired old "We don't serve licenced anime here" response (usually to members with one or two posts).

Everything else tends to be gold. I liked the recent April Fool's Thread 7-Day Holiday Spree, even if I thought the prizes were awarded rather arbitrarily.

I feel so honored. The simple reason why I'am still not banned yet is probably because I'am not a spammer. My threads all have meaning to them and mods often find themselves responding to them once or twice before closing them.

Edit : also xris has bashed me pretty harshly in the past so I don't think he would have the heart, considering all the mean things he's said to me and about me.

I honestly don't, the simple reason most of my threads get closed are because they normally end up going off topic or break out into a flame war, however they normally have decents runs and serve their purposes.

I think ashibaka is talking about SomethingAwful, which I know he is a member of. I was in a similar situation a few months ago in a different forum. *blush*

The funny thing about it is that the person who posts the image sees it perfectly fine, but everyone else who tries to see it actually sees a really, really nasty image. Just a quote from when I posted it in another forum:

"LOL - Take a look at this funny image I got from a SomethingAwful photoshop phriday" - Me
"*scratches eyes out* Boney, you have one sick, twisted sense of humor! Definitely not work safe!!!" - Another person
"Yeah, I definitely didn't want to start my day off by looking at a naked transsexual." - Yet another personl

**EDIT**

Also, in case anyone is wondering: no, I didn't see the image. I copied the URL of the thread and that was it.

OK. I'm still fairly new to the forum thing and was wondering is there a quick way to find closed/locked threads? I did a search for "closed thread" and I get searches involving the word "closed" and "thread" and 430 something results that involves both isn't exactly what makes a fun day. Can there be a quick link or something that can link all the closed/locked threads into one common thread? It can be just for reading. It can also serve as an informative thread to show what will cause one to be nuked. I guess it would go under general chat. Just a thought :uhoh:

Good grief, how many of you ambulance chasers are there out there. There isn't an easy way to find locked threads, perhaps if you click on the "New Posts" link at the top of the page and just look for the recent locked threads, you may have more success at finding the recent ones.

Alternately, you could click on a posters name (the one in the top left hand corner of a post) and then select "Find More Posts by ..." in the drop down menu. I mean, if you do this to certain posters (ahem), you'll find a concentration of locked threads listed.

Are you trying to say that Xris has started an Anti-You cult? If so, what kind of sacrifice do you think they use to appease the Anti-F*****?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, but you do provide the forum users with such wonderful straight lines.

They love me Xris they really do, and to think its all thanks to you.

Much as I would like to take the bulk of this credit, I assure you, you would have achieved similar levels of notoriety without my help. My contributing factor has been a mere match compared to your flamethrower.

And what's more, I was referring to myself when I made the comment "(ahem)", because I strongly suspect I have posted in more closed thread than anyone. Yes, even more than you ff7799, I realise you may find this difficult to believe but I assure you it's true. Now, if you are looking for someone with a lot of closed threads they started, well that's another kettle of fish, one you may well be King of.

Well thats what I meant, no one has started more topics than me that have been closed, I am the king. And My topics are always incredible popular, I mean thats probably conceited of me to say however it is true. I always put alot of thought and effort into the threads that I start, Anything that attracts the attention of the mods but doesn't violate the rules is always a great topic.

Actually I'm thinking of closing this thread since it seems to be bringing out xris' dark side. He's been going all out with his closing comments lately. (He even found it necessary to add a closing comment to a thread that I'd already closed.) This thread is much too provocative. :D

I think xris is just trying to hide all of the evidence of his Anti-f***** cult by closing as many threads as he can that aren't related to Him :)

That is why I keep out of the naruto forum. That and most of my threads get closed. Like the ever popular, "rate that puberty" thread.

http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=3144

I just laughed at that one and left. As a general rule of thumb I avoid *all* threads that have "!!!" in the title.

The first time that I joined animesuki forums I started a thread with a huge gallery picture of saint of Saint Seiya :D but then came that grumpy moderator whose avatar I was never going to forget... Yes that avatar resambled one of those old individuals with a sarcastic smile and a lot of confidence... Just like the old perverted master Happosai from Ramma 1/2 or Naruto's perverted old master, the Toad Sennin :( This moderator didn't even bother closing my thread but instead he erased it from the forum leaving no trace of its existance. Oh my God how angry I was, I cannot remenber, I didn't even know if it was that avatar who made me angry. The fact is that because of my angry complains against the grumpy one I got bannad from animesuki once.

And Know I have returned with my face down and with the disposition to accept the will of the grumpy one. However, every time that I look at his avatar, I always remenber that I must not awake his dark side.
