Not as pumping as last week or episode 4-5, but definitely an excellent middle dish for the grand final of this season. I appreciate how things went smoothly in term of showing people fighting their all, even the grunts from both sides. Nate's showtime was also spelling quite the "hero unit" all over her :heh: (still, where are the other knights? Are they along with Mikawa guards or something?)
I particularly liked how they didn't push any melodrama button when Tomo announced the burden Toori had to bear once the contract is over. Instead, some shock and solemn mood before things shifted to high gear. That and that excellent track when Toori unleashed his ability.
Finally, color me quite surprised how Innocentius was trolled THAT badly by no one else than Masazumi...I couldn't help but let out a guffaw at that, especially with Nakata pulling such kind of voice, besting his most silly antics as Neko Chaos :heh:
As for the end, I guess Muneshige was fortunate to have faced Tadakatsu for his tactics used against Futayo, although the daughter is arguably nothing close to her final boss-like daddy. Round 2 should be interesting, as it is unlikely anyone else but Futayo can stop Muneshige's threat.
Next 2 episodes are going to be a blast. Looking forwards them.

Pretty much my feelings towards this ep. I love it. The fights may not have been episodes 4-5 levels of amazing but real close. Innocentius was far more comical than he appears too. Toori made thing's even better. Damn I love his scene so much. The music, his speech, everything. Must go watch it again.

Going by the meeting of the knights in the earlier episode I'd say she's the only student knight that can take part. It was either older people who would no longer be students or much younger going just by looks anyway.
I enjoyed pretty much the whole episode, I especially liked the grin on Nate's face when she reached Toori's side.
Innocentius got baited so hard. :D

Three highlights in this episode:
#1 Neito looks so cute rushing to Toori's aid and then asking him to praise her :D Even better was how he ended up rubbing her head :heh:
#2 Toori's GAR moment where he made the contract with the Shinto God, and his subsequent speech about taking in all of their uselessness and giving them power to do things.
#3 Futayo and Muneshige verbal exchange :heh: Sure their high-speed fighting was cool, but the two idiots were even better just talking :heh:

aaah the moment I've been waiting when toori finally not as useless as he's been! and "with a great power comes great responsibility sacrifice" :(
neito's really a good... wolf :heh:
and pope! how can you fall for that! LMAO
#3 Futayo and Muneshige verbal exchange :heh: Sure their high-speed fighting was cool, but the two idiots were even better just talking :heh:
Futayo and Muneshige, are you Elementary school student?
LOL that's really true!
TBH, with what episode 9, 10 achieved, I do feel this episode was a bit bland (probably because the dialogue is also harder than the last one as well).
Having said that, I enjoyed this episode very much. It had so many elements in it.
Love the Nate and Naomasa debut, Nate's battle suit is just so amazing and her weapon fits her so well imo. I wish she could have show us more though.
The second Tazai Bushou was cheap, I mean really cheap (not that I didn't know it before). But Toori awesome debut as the main character made up for it. I like the animation sequence of Toori's contract, whoever thought about that socket idea is amazing XD. Wish I could understand Toori's speech a bit more though. Like Klashikari said, I liked the way they handle the painful truth about Toori's contract, they were so understanding with Toori to concentrate in their goal.
Love the Masazumi vs Innocentius moments. I liked it best when Masazumi accused him for sexual harassment, that was surely hilarious.
The fight between Galileo and Noriki was a bit pale to me (mainly because I didn't really catch what they were saying, especially Galileo ). But glad that Noriki finally had his first win.
Not as funny as the Pope vs Masazumi scene, but Muneshige and Futayo realy shone in this episode with child like attitude. I love the fact that Muneshige had to crouch down to ask Gin about how to answer Futayo lol. And the fight, imo, was more exiting than the previous Muneshige vs Tadakatsu fight.
*Off to watch it the second time*

such a nice episode even though I didn't understand much what happen or what are they saying. But I like the entrance fight of Neito. Using the humans as weapon to toss around :heh: and Aoi petting her :D The scene with the contract too. I don't understand much except that he will die if something which I don't understand much happen but from the novel thread. I think he is not allowed to be sad anymore. Oh darn the pope innocentius and Masazumi's fight was hilarious specially the popes comment on Masazumi's dress. The fight with Noriki and Galileo... I don't understand how he wins but he wins <.< the final battle is a also a bit hilarious with a childish ranting fight between Muneshige and Futayo.

The Shinto God that Toori contracted with is one that likes what he normally does (those jokes, stupid remarks, strips, etc...), so from that moment on his offering is that he can never feel sadness ever again otherwise he would die.

Either way, it's even worse than I thought but that just makes him more awesome at the same time.

I finally made time to watch the episode (finals suckkkkk). The amount of details in this episode is overwhelming.
First up, the 3 consecutive scenes that almost brought me to tears.
http://i.imgur.com/dlTpYl.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/8ZgLll.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/m3J4jl.jpg
Toori is a great character, he's so simple yet not. He just wants to confess to a robot. Even here he's not totally serious (yet totally is), but I just love this guy. He has been practicing his whole life literally just for this. Since the story isn't told from his head, we probably will never know what he thinks, but man the burden. I don't think besides omnipotent characters, there is not a single person who cannot feel (as opposed to does not) sadness for their entire life starting 8 (only time he cried with Kimi).
Asama is the only osananajimi of the two. She's arguably the only one besides Kimi that knows the full contract detail (recall back to Episode 9 on the stairs). Think about it from her perspective, Toori is not immortal even after practicing all these years. Just less than a day ago this guy was emo-ing that Horizon got taken, and now she basically had to sign a death note for one of her best friend. Her responsibility as both one of closest friend and as the contractor must be guilt tripping her like crazy at this point. If you can't tell by Hanami's expression (http://puu.sh/apuZ) earlier, you can clearly tell she's barely holding on here.
Finally Kimi. Once again, best sister of all year every year. She only cried once with her stupid brother, and both are basically so similar in every single way. If there's anyone who knows Toori the best at this point that person has to be Kimi. That all knowing smile is just too beautiful, yet so hauntingly transient. Only person to be completely unfazed by one of the most ridiculous contract ever.
Thankfully the episode ended on good notes (http://i.imgur.com/WAbkW.gif), the beginning parts are pretty badass (http://puu.sh/apBw) but also depressing. Kawakami's just brilliant at drawing your emotion.
The rest are just smaller things, but two in particular are wonderful.

The details regarding Hanami also struck me, considering the extent of the contract is nothing to laugh at. If the mouse representing the God responsible for such contract is nearly in tears, you bet things are going ugly should the contract is breached.
Looking back with previous episodes make things even more sense with all the foreshadowing around.

Man, I was actually wondering why they bothered to animate some random plume of smoke, until Ukky showed up out of freakin' nowhere and smacked Galileo right on the horn. And right when he did that I was just all whoaaaaaaaa he was listening to Oriotorai!

That was a great episode to tie us over to the big finale. I had been looking forward to Toori's power since episode 1, but this was not what i expected, both the contract and the ability itself. And I thought all the fight scenes were awesomely done. I do agree with last week's being stronger in a way than this one though. I wonder how Futayo's gonna defeat him, hmmm.
that new scriptwriter better come back for second season, she has done tremendous job for the two eps that she handled.

It is the very style of Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon that you do not feel cruel about the war(both in novel and anime), but rather hilarious~
I was surprised by the contract. I can not imagine one loses his life when he is not in good mood...If he is competent of this, he is Kami to some extent.
Futayo Honda seems can not make full use of his her weapon and can not catch up with his father.

That lecture was way back in Episode 1. It was quite a surprise that they applied what they learned in Oriotorai's lesson in this battle, increasing the significance of the first episode. I loved how Oriotorai smiled after they defeated Galileo, felt like she did a job well done.
I wonder how many people have actually remembered that? Honestly, I have completely forgotten about her lesson until I read that. But that was like 2 months ago for me while it was just 2 days ago for them, so I guess that's understandable. :heh:

Another action packed episode. And once again, certain characters received the spotlight :)
Now it's time to list the badasses of this episode

This guy just has a badass hat
http://i41.tinypic.com/16hiys3.jpg
Toori has the advantage of always being happy while powering up himself and his entire army
http://i40.tinypic.com/nl3jg3.jpg
This guy had the guts to go up against the second in command and defeated him with a few punches

Lastly, although she lost, she went up against that guy without showing fear or a drop of sweat, and we've all seen that guys abilities.

Sorry, but the only thing I'm getting from that picture of Futayo is that she has no friends :p
God damn it, Sunrise, Ono, whoever. You keep pushing all the right buttons with this. I feel like I'm growing to love the series more and more with every passing week - even the humor worked better here than anything I've seen in a good while. I'm now going to assume all older men in Horizon are bound to snap at some point now www
Really, I never would have thought I'd end up enjoying this the most from the fall crop. I'm so glad to see BD1 currently peaking at #8 on Amazon, when I think of all that lovely budget more than likely to be allocated to the future season(s).
Meanwhile, f- yeah Noriki \(゚∀゚)/ Balancing the character love and all.
I liked this episode , Toori showing his buff skill , didn't expected it but well^^
His mates are strong too but i wish they show Ninja more !
The fight is kinda simple. Pope decreases power -> Counter -> Toori buff
The red dude use geocentricism & got a great armor -> Counter -> Noriki armor penetration
So , Testament Union & Pope still don't kill but just defend as long as they can or ?
I'm looking at Pope's army & Toori's army , they don't seem to fight to blood.(& there are no blood)

i don't think it is seal so much as it was not activate. Once the contract is activate i don't think you just shut it down again.
I treat it like a loan from the gods. If you can't carry out the rest of your bargain the gods will take back what they gave you and Toori will end up using those energy from himself, which will cause him to die.

and Toori finally doing something, but there's no turning back for him from now on. (that background music is awesome!) About his ability though, so he's basically just accessing power from Musashi and transferring it everyone else right? How can that be used "forever" when Musashi's energy is used up? I don't get that point though.
It means that the amount of ether in Musashi is enormous that practically endless.
It's like setting your mana to 1,000,000 pts each, while using one skill cost like a couple of hundreds. It's not unlimited, but it's not like they will be able to use all of it in one go anyway.

I deleted my question because I just read the relevant part in the translated Chinese version. Apparently it says Toori is accessing the part of Musashi that is connected to the earth pulse, which means the unlimited supply is coming from the earth (if i'm not mistaken).

This franchise would be awesome as a game.
^ Lurking the imageboards a friend of mine told me there was a planned game instead of an anime since the setting is easily either like Dynasty Warriors or Fire Emblem...

This.... is not a comedy right? I wonder why this episode made me laugh more than any other anime I have seen in a while(and that's saying a lot considering I am watching Gintama alongside this).
Anyway after this episode, I can't see the enemy as bad guys anymore. I am actually liking that pope and Muneshige a lot:D
So far I'd mostly say it is a comedy with little bits of drama every now and then. I suppose you can say most of the things in the show are for the lulz. Kind of like One Piece.

He's still pretty weak compare to the others. Fatal flaw being to "understand" the attack, he has to eat it first. Though I won't be surprised by the end of the series he knows all 12 months =).

There are plenty of people who can thrash him with no effort....
I do really need to pay attention what I see before my eyes, because it wasn't until this episode that I get the grasp on the details how all those spells and powers work.
Basically, for each spell and ability there's toll of prayers and offerings that have to be offered in order to keep them running.
But, there are those which are contracts and covenants that the characters in that world just cannot pull them out of thin air, but rather they need to be granted a special permission from a sort of keeper, priest, or miko character to use them provided that they themselves will be providing the toll or offering. And failure to do that will repercute in serious consequences for the character.
In Torii's case, being granted permission by Asama to control a quarter of the Musashi's ether reserves, in order to power-up his comrades in the battlefield, required from him to make his offerings based on overall happiness of his being.
However, Torii from the start would not have been able to get access to the Ether even if Asama had authorized permission to have her shrine representing him, unless Torii had been granted beforehand some position. This is how the King of the Musashi granting Torii the position of Viceroy to the whole country-Ship, two episodes ago, came in handy for him to be able to access and wield such powers.
Golden Comedy of the moment for this episode:
Innocentius: (frenzied) If you're a girl, you'd better dress like one!!!.
Masazumi: (outraged) He's Lecturing Me!!!

ActuallyToori got access to 1/4 of Musashi's energy Reserve when the Musashi's King made him a Viceroy. The deal he made with his god and process by Asama's shrine was the ability to share that power with everyone.
