Eh, it's kinda different though.

Shining Tears x Wind had Souma as the deuteragonist going about the Shining Wind storyline in his own route while Kiriya does his... in the game. And while it was wacky, it actually feels closer as a sequel to Tears, what with Xero entrusting the protection of the world to Souma.

Which actually works quite well, since Souma in the game was pretty much under-developed.

Besides, Shining series ( the Tony ones anyway ) was never any sort of srsbsnss fantasy, as much as it tries to portray itself as one at times. I think they've fully embraced it by Hearts.

Awesome news, I really like Taka's work and I find characters from Shining Heart to be awesome looking. Since I can't play the game, I'll just have to satisfy myself with this. :cool:

Find the decision to animate Shining Hearts instead of Shining Blade, which also is going to be released sometime in Spring 2012 on the PSP, confusing. After Valkyria Chronicles and the other Shining anime, I would have thought Sega would try to simultaneously release a game and anime series of the same title, to promote each other.
Depends what is up during that season might watch it or maybe not.

Yeah, I know the title says bread, but it was still fairly underwhelming with the girls just going around selling bread and having fun with the protagonist.
But considering there are elves and beast people and such fantasy, I'm going to assume that the story will become more active... eventually...
I guess one good thing is that the anime animated Tony's character designs really well.
Though.............. The ED........................ was........ terrifying... Without a doubt, the most noticeable thing in this whole episode was the ED. It first looks cute and silly, but the faces! The eyes! They don't move and they're just staring at you with similar hanko faces! To be honest, it really was scary (and funny).

I lived in a village for a few years so I know that in a small place, things like bakery can be talk of a crowd as it barely happens anything new for a while. So it's nothing ''abnormal''. Christ was that boring...Out of all the 1st episodes this season that one stood out as feeling like a massive waste of time to watch.

Still it is based on an RPG so give it a few more episodes to actually do something that doesn't put me to sleep or have me skipping through the episode.

Just as an aside I love SoL, but this wasn't even good as a sol episode...Stuff like Sakamachi and Tsuritama did the whole slower paced first episode far better.

I was comparing it to Shukufuku no Campanella, so it didn't seem slow to me, lol. Just a good intro to the story, which will evidently get going in earnest next week. Loved hearing Kamiyan doing two roles. Megalomania?

There was one image of a torn-open loaf of bread that I thought was excellently done: I could almost feel the texture. Other images, not so much. I liked the elf design.

Anyway, I enjoyed the episode more and more as it went on. Seems like a good sign.

There is nothing wrong with your opinion, if you didn't like it you had solid reason for it. But like I said, I was thinking of those people that already put a final verdic on the show like it already ended. I'm not saying people should like it, I'm just saying to give it a chance. Even I'm not sure if the show will be good, but I would never drop it just because the start was not to my liking.

That aside, I'm really hoping they will change the opening and that it was for the epiosde one only. The one from the game was awesome, and I was really expecting similar to that. None of the side characters appeared in it. Like Xiao-Mei and...

Finished episode 1. Am I one of few episode that like this episode. The world it sets gives me Campanella and Fairy Tail vibes with Yakitate Japan's bread baking moments. I liked the fact that the MC and the three sisters are making bakery to sell to poverished people. And then, Alvin see the sky and announce to Rana that a great storm will launch, and it's pretty much confirmed for the next episode. I really want to expect the action genre after the next episode according to some words in this episode. Liked the artwork (very faithful and give Tony Taka's justice) and effects.

I finally got the chance to watch this, and I'm very glad I did.

Having to expectations going in, this proved to be a incredibly pleasant surprise. The character designs are beautiful, and the setting simply idyllic. It sort of reminds me of Shufuku no Campanella. I know a lot of people didn't like that, but I loved it, so it's a good sign in my book. Hearing Itou Kanae is a treat, per usual, and I see that there's a good list of top-tier voice actresses yet to make their appearance from the list of supporting characters. Can't wait to see how this'll unfold, seems like there's actually a story brewing beneath the thick layer of cuteness and charm as well.

All in all, an excellent, enjoyable and instantly engaging first episode.

Well, to put it in a very simple way...

After Blade, Isaac is trying to open the Pandora Box in Sakuya's inner world (you have to beat the aftergame boss to see this scene). As a counter measure, Sakuya throws Rick and his harem into her world as well.
But Sakuya's inner world is made to be a paradise apart from rest of the world that everyone can start over fresh from their past; you don't get to bring your memory with you upon entering, hence the amnesia.

...unless you enter her world illegally that is. Like Isaac, Elwing, and probably Urayukihime.

It wasn't too bad, slow pacing and you can probably even say it's boring, but it's a cute series about spreading the love of bread to everyone. Eating good bread makes people's worries go away. It's simple but still enjoyable. Obviously having 3 cute girls around constantly helps though. :D

Everyone suuurreee likes Rick's bread, they spent the whole episode praising the bread which for some reason was ticking me off a bit.
If only the NPC in the game liked my bread like in this episode... (may be due to the fact I added salt to the bread since it was very common) Ah at least it was nice to hear the game music in the anime.

I am little bit bothered how they started the anime compare to the game which hopefully will come up later on.

Ok, as expected from Tony, chara designs are very lovely, and it's overall quite beautiful, but... story f00king where?
While Yakitate Japan is about *making* bread, this is about *selling* bread. Indeed, I realised that the whole series is one big bread advertisement, paid for by Japan's bakery guild to make bread more popular in japan (as it's not very popular there) and boost sales! :D

Look, there where have cute girls selling bread! Look hopw everyone wants to eat bread, standing in long lines to get it! Look how everyone in town is gladly buying bread from the girl who's bringing it around! Even the priest is eating bread!

Then we have the obligatory fluffy animal, and look, even the fluffy animal eats bread! Then we have a grumpy elf, and he's only grumpy because he doesn't eat bread. His hot sister is cheerful, because she eats bread!
Eat bread and be happy, or don't eat bread and be grumpy, it's as simple as that! :D

I'll continue watching this bread advertisement just because of Tony's great art and hope that something actually happens. Please, I don't want a second Campanella, ok?

It was a really nice, relaxing second episode. I'm really glad they showed so many clips about the entire village preparing for the storm. It added a lot to the atmosphere of the show. You know ... after watching ep 2 I went back and re-watched ep 1 to confirm an impression it left, and yes: the visual animation style of this series impressed me. Really quite lavish and detailed (even if the wings on the head of the elf lady look silly to me).

The biggest problem for me at the moment is the dialogue style tbh ... the constant references to "Rick's bread" in almost every other sentence became grating quite fast in ep 1, but it continued in ep 2 and got real old for me. Take out the dialogue style and I would prolly enjoy the series a lot more, but it still seems ok for the moment. :)

One thing I really appreciate in this series is the atmosphere. The sounds of heavy rain, the chirping of birds in the forest... almost felt like I was there. I love small-town settings in general, but this one's a treat among treats.

The conversations work for me on charm alone. They are genuinely heart-warming, though I can easily see how it could be seen as sappy by others.

After watching 3 eps tbh I find the series to be frustrating - it has what I regard as beautiful visuals and some absolutely beautiful BGM (I also really like the OP), but somehow the execution of the story feels disjointed and somehow "cardboardy" for lack of a better word. I want to like the series more than I am, but somehow every ep something rudely yanks me out of the ep once or twice.

Yes....Not as fast paced as Blade but still it's not bad if you can endure past the endless bread work at the start

Life would be nice if you could become the town hero just by telling people to go inside when it rains (except that you'd be living in a town full of idiots). And man, that was the most underwhelming storm I've ever seen.

But even forgiving the ridiculousness, this isn't 1% of the anime that Yakitate Japan was. Rick just puts too many eggs in the bread. He's cracking or beating an egg in like every other scene. Sorry, Rick, but good bread - tender, yeasty, manly bread - does not contain eggs! Rick fails as a baker.

Until Rick gets his head chomped off by a witch, I quit this series.

The major part of the first half is spent telling us that a storm is coming, and that the storm is big and nasty, and nastier than any storm before it!
Ok, after the 1001st repetition that a storm is coming, even the dumbest imbred hick should have understood that a storm is coming.
never fear though, because as one of the girls puts it: "A storm is coming, and all we can do is bake bread." Now that's terribly comforting, isn't it? Let's one instantly forget a worries, because if you have bread, nothing bad can happen!

Besides that, bread selling bussiness as usual, and bread delivery as well. I noticed that when the girl delivered the bread at the church, the priest was nowhere to be seen. Probably he took a fright because of the storm and ran away, leaving the little children all alone.
But hey, that's not a problem at all, because the little children now have something much better - bread! Bread solves all your problems, as we all know, right? :D

The second part comes, and with it the storm. A little girl is home alone, but never fear! Superbreadwoman saves the day! She goes all the way through the big, nasty storm to bring the little girl...

Yes, that's right! She brings the little girl bread, who is instantly comforted! Once again bread solves all your problems, and Superbreadwoman walks all the way back through the storm without anything happening to her again, thanks to the power of bread. Not even her dress is really wet from going through the big, nasty storm twice, or you's have some nice see-though with that white fabric. Probably the power of bread saved her from getting too wet.

Anyway, eventually the big, nasty storm is over, and... absolutely *nothing* happened! No one has so much as a scratch, all buildings are still perfectly fine, and the apples could be saved from the storm as well!
All that thanks to the power of the almighty bread! See, if you always eat your bread, not even the nastiest storm will be able to touch you! :D

Wait, you really expected something to happen after all the build up going on and on for endless minutes, telling us how bad the storm is going to be and such? Silly you. How can something happen, if they're all protected by the almighty bread?

Finally, they're bringing bread to the elves again. The cheerful girl instantly likes it. The Grumpy Elf is cautious at first, but then tries it - and instantly he's less grumpy! Yet another victory for the bread!

At the very end, there was something enexpected though - an unconscious girl lying at the beach! Should we now, after two episodes of blatant bread commercial, finally get a... *gasp* story!?
Oh, what wondrous things might await us still?

Seriously, if it wasn't for the absolutely beautiful chara designs and art, this would be utter garbage. But they can only do so much, so I really do hope that something actually happens next episode.

This is almost a canon example of why the 'three episode test' works. After two episodes of yeast, flour, and friendship, the plot has thickened. Mysterious woman on the beach, strange glowing pendant, mecha-miku, beams, buried something out to sea and enemy ships which seem to be from a whole different time period to the islanders.

I really do hope that something actually happens next episode.

I was more reminded of KOS-MOS from Xenosaga, but the short skirt and "pink girly bows" markings on EX-Xecty's design really just kills it for me. She looks less like a weapon of war and more like a schoolgirl in a costume. At least Xecty in Shining Wind looked more professional in her military uniform and more intimidating in her red EVE-Xecty form.

Ok, not so much in the first part, were they were preparing for the oh so evil pirates. But hey, they were using an ingenius plan there! Let's all not make light at night, and the pirates will think the island is deserted and go away again! Yeah! :D
With all the wonderful prperties that bread has, we at least can now say that it apparently doesn't make people intelligent.

Onwards to the girl, Kaguya. She was just washed ashore, yet when she regains consciousness, the first thing she thinks of is that she wants to eat bread! Forget about such trivialties like asking where she is and such. Bread is much more important! Sadly she's yet too weak to have her bread and eat it, too.

Anyway, they still have to deliver bread before their fabulous blackout-plan is set into motion. However, a catastrophe happens before - the oven is kaputt! No more bread! End of the world!
They went high into the mountains to some dwarf to have him fix it. The horny dwarf however is too busy with his love slave, which he has bound in his work shop, so he teels them some ludicrous price he knows they can't pay, just so they go away and leave him alone with his love slave.

Second part, the pirate ships are attacking. Curiously, they don't look like pirate ships at all, but rather like modern warships (destroyer or something like that). Judging from where they shoot, they want the dwarf's bound love slave for themselves. However, the girl awakens shortly, and after probing her environment, she eventually sends out a huge beam that destroys the entire pirate fleet without a trace. Given that she can do that, getting rid of the dwarf's ropes would be most easy for her, but apparently she likes bondage and thus isn't interested in getting rid of the ropes.
Some ways away, Kaguyas amulet lights up, which gets guard to panic, because if the evil pirates see the light, they'll come and give the guards some hot manlove, and their asses are still sore from last time.

Overall, good to see that we finally have some story. Hope this will still develop further later on.

Well at least it's focusing more on events that will prove to be relevant but the preview looks like it'll be more bread fluff. Content is perhaps the biggest issue. Each episode feels like the content of 15 minutes stretched out in slow mo to 22 minutes. And there's far too much fluff. It's good to have content that isn't relevant to the main plot but serves to give the characters more familiarity but it's been far too much focused on bread, the comedy is just not funny and it's overall not very engaging nor interesting.

If only it was Amil in a bikini, then I wouldn't have even cared.

On another note, when I saw Neris (the girl w/ the long brunette hair) in a bikini this episode, I immediately thought two things. 1) We, the fans, need some more of this b/c I'm getting tired of hearing about how magical "rick's bread" is and how it can even wake up a woman from her coma apparently; let's focus more on some of the girl's "buns" :heh:. 2) If Neris and the rest of the girls would've have worn their bikinis while selling all that bread in the store, maybe they'd have enough money to fix their furnace by now :heh:

There's 12 episodes total for this anime. Episode 6 is next. We're almost halfway through and the story hasn't really moved that much. What we do know already is that the main characters bake bread, one of them washed ashore and has experience with weapons and....well, that's it really. There's two mysterious people that can do some magic but one's still in a hospital bed and the others chained up by a grouchy dwarf.

I sure do hope something happens in the next episode. I want to like this anime a lot more than I already do. I like the characters and the way they involved different races like the elves and dwarfs.

On a positive, I do enjoy the ending. It makes me feel....happy, just watching them dance with a smile on their face the entire time :p

Yes, Tony's work is really wasted here, with no fanservice and no story - again. After we finally had a bit of story in episode 4, high noon for a filler in ep. 5! :D
Once again we have one big bread commercial. Look, even cute tiny pet demons like eating bread! As an added bonus though, we had some ice cream added in now, since the weather is slowly getting warmer, and another cute girl preparing the ice cream. Still, it was quite bland to watch. I don't know if I'll be able to sit through another filler without falling asleep.

Really, Tony's great art is the only thing this series has going for it. Without it, over 90% would've dropped this after the first episode already. But as I've said once already, Tony's art can do only so much. Hope they'll humble us with some bit of story in ep. 6 again.

As I've already said once, I have the strong impression that this is one big bread commercial, paid for by the Bakery Association of Japan, in order to get people to eat more bread :D

So...isn't Rick going to do anything about the Cat thief? Is he seriously just gonna let her keep stealing? I know it's for a good cause and all but it still feels like more of a Warped Aesop to me...

Although the pacing went down a bit it was still a pretty good episode that put more focus Rick who was sorely needed the character expansion. But there was a big problem in that we never really got an insight into his thoughts. I really can't stand that. It was such a brilliant opportunity to hear his thoughts and really feel his conflicted emotions but they completely wasted it. This doesn't just go for Rick but every character too. I've not heard any kind of introspection. Just a lot of flashbacks and looking into the distance.

I also kinda wished he said he wanted to find out about his past because then I'd finally feel like it's starting to lift off. Like I said earlier, this show does not make for a compelling mystery.

And I'm kinda surprised we saw the girl wake up and them not making a big deal of it. There's a lot of questions surrounding her that I thought they'd be curious about.

At least the episode had more Amil (though not nearly enough).

From ep 7 I have a theory of what happened here. All the ppl washed ashore lost their memories. All the ppl washed ashore work at the bakery. It's granny Madera fault. She gave Bread-Induced Memory Loss to them to eat so that she can have employers working at the bakery.

About a week or two ago I started watching this show, and I'm finally caught up.

Primarily three things drew me to it:

1) The character designs. Lovely character designs to be sure.

2) There's a fair number of JRPG storylines that I've liked. They tend to do "Fantasy" well. I haven't seen a good, true "Fantasy" anime in awhile, and since I vaguely recall reading that this anime is based on a JRPG, I was hoping I might find one here.

3) A friend recommended it to me.


This anime has been pretty good. It's admittedly been pretty thin on plot, but it has just enough plot so that I don't get completely bored with it. And the protagonists are genuinely likable and fun. The overall atmosphere of the show is like a more fantasy-esque Mashiro-iro Symphony (one of the three main girls even makes me think of Airi).


That being said, I'm fearful that the ending to this is going to be massively rushed and/or underwhelming. There's so many mysteries out there right now that resolving them all by the end of this anime will probably involve lame solutions or rushing things.

Still, this is a fun and quirky little show that makes for good, easy viewing.
