I agree with everyone who's said the Akarin jokes have worn out their welcome (Though that's due less to them being old and tired to me, and more because I think it's a waste of a good character to reduce Akarin to nothing more than a series of 'lol Akarin lacks presence' jokes; she's a likable and interesting girl, don't essentially write her out of the show for the sake of a running joke), though I have to admit that mug is pretty awesome. :heh:

Yuruyuri Quaver 01 - Grand Delusions of a Heroic Lily

Akari's delusion power is maximum. I was looking forward to her introduction, and the show went all out for her first reappearance. That entire dream sequence that started off the show... I knew it was going to pull away and reveal that Akari was still the same background shadow we had come to know and pity, it was only a matter of time. It was only when Chizuru burst through the floor that it became clear her dream was coming to a close. A wonderful, if disorienting sequence. Himawari smacked Sakurako away with her boobs, for crying out loud.

Once that delusion of grandeur ended, a nice reintroduction to the characters. I like the new opening and ending - the OP with its theater motif and the ED's animation style in particular. The eyecatches are a lot more vibrant, and more leitmotifs for future character songs are also present. Hooray! The dynamics are unchanged, and the comedy is as good as it was before. (Poor Akari.) Chinatsu was the one who gained a new dimension, I thought. The way her hair devoured a small carton of ping pong balls was... yeah.

It's been a long time since the last season. It was only last week I saw Kyoko and Akari as Ghuta and Tamao, and Rumi Ookubo's really moving up in the world. She's been Cure Muse, Nobunaga and Tsumiki since the first season was off the air, but I'll always remember her as Chinatsu. It's a role she plays well. The parts with the girls were a lot of fun, but I liked the parts that bookended the show.

Finally, we get to see a bit of a Mirakurun episode/movie (okay, a bit more. This was probably the longest segment yet). Like that one episode of To Love Ru. It's not a full episode of Z-Cune Aoi, but the tone is similar enough that it satisfies the part of me that likes show within a shows. Rivalun's plan was notably silly, and Chinatsu and Mirakurun may have more in common than just their appearance.

Akari's Harem End may not happen, but I'm glad to see her and her friends back. Let's get this show started.

This new season started with a bang. I couldn't stop laughing throughout Akari's dream sequence. Part of me felt bad at the same time, because I knew what we were seeing was just Akari's lonely delusion and that it's impossible for her to become such a grand main character. Oh, Akari ;_;

The real world was no different from the usual, and I wouldn't have it any other way of course. Chinatsu is still scary (that eyecatch, Jesus), Akari is still bullied, Kyoko is still a big ball of energy, and Yui is still cool and collected. Their trip at the hot springs was tremendous fun.

The new opening and ending are both very nice and suit the series perfectly. Yuruyuri's got to have catchy songs like these.

So glad Yuruyuri is back.

Chinatsu was the one who gained a new dimension, I thought. The way her hair devoured a small carton of ping pong balls was... yeah.

I was surprised she followed Kyoko into the hot spring so that she wouldn't feel lonely. Chinatsu does have her good sides, after all. She still has her scary sides as well though... like that black hole hair...

The first half was okay, but it got good during the second half. I don't know how Season 2 will fare, it feels like they are going to overdo it with the gags and the yuri stuff. It gave a different vibe to me so far. I hope it's as good as season 1 then.

Akari's dream/delusion harem part at the start just too hilarious I laughed almost the entire time during, I really enjoyed how it went all out to include all the support cast even, and how easily they accepted anything she said or did :heh:. And the silly guitar music they used just made it even better. Kyouko writing Akari and Mirakurun was pretty great too.

The rest was plenty enjoyable to see them play table tennis was amusing, I laughed pretty hard when Kyouko did her double shot and both of the balls got absorbed into Chinatsu's hair at the same time, and Kyouko's wanting to watch the Mirakurun movie on TV while being excited and crying over was so silly, good to see she hasn't changed :D. Overall I am really glad the show is back, and the OP seems a bit better in anime, though I still prefer the new ED.

So Akari dreams of seducing all the girls huh. Common Akari don't give up your dream. I guess it would have been too dark a joke to have Akari forgotten in her own dream of being the most popular in the school.

Also I'm pretty sure Chinatsu will be some point revealed to be another form of Nyarlathotep.

They really went all out with this episode. It's obvious that they wanted to come back with a bang and they delivered.

The Akarin intro was epic. What a way to kick things off.

The first half of the episode was awesome. Busted out laughing when she did that wink the first time. It was an awesome way to reintroduce the cast.

The second half was more akin to what we saw last time around. Loved how Akari hit Kyouko with the ping pong paddle, and of course Chinatu's hair was something.

This was a fantastic way to start the season. I don't think things will be this crazy going forward, but I really like how they tried to make the first episode a big deal.

The OP beats the S1 OP but the ED is nowhere near them... the old ED is still the best
well, if it follows the tradition, giving previews of the char songs in the eyecatches, we will have just as much awesomeness than last year(at least in 2 of the cases)

HAH!:D Daily Lives of Big Sister Akane, though from the way most people are picturing Akane, that might have to go in Girls Love instead of Yuri Hime.

Other spin offs

Sun & Flower: A Sakurako and Himawari centric series set mainly in the current time, but with both flashbacks and flashfowards in their relationship.

The Secret Life of Tomoko: All about Chinatsu's older sister Tomoko stalking Akane.

Explosion Theater: We finally find out what kind of experiments Rise and Nishigaki-sensei do after school.

Kyouko's Comic Festa: Basically the cast goes full on parody mode of other series by Ichijinsha. Each episode is reveled to be another one of Kyouko's doujins.

Mirakurun seems to be slowly moving in verse towards a Madoka style deconstruction. Actually I would not be suprised if there was a real Mirakurun manga made at some point. Its happened before.

If I can fine one fault with episode one, no real SakuHima! From the PV for episode 02, I think we might just get a cute emotional moment (hopefully).

I could have been happy after the deliciousness that was deredere Yui in the first half. But this scene made me wonder what long-forgotten Sumerian god have I pleased?!

Watched it today on marathon though and the later episodes were really good ... Here's hoping this picks up as well... Sorry Japan is with me on supporting the Girl who defended and cared for Kyouko since she was a loli, who is the only person Kyouko ever shows an emotion to besides "Energetic" :heh:, which is of course Yui :p.

Humans are living souls XP I am living therefore I have a soul. I'm sorry for you for liking the least likable character in the show. Her tsundere-ing over Kyoko has to be the shittiest to ever happen. I can't afford to watch her doing that without puking LOL.

Oh, whether you like it or not, Ayano loves Chizuru. Kyoko was just her childish crush XD The manga proves it. And, Yui/ Kyoko is the most mutual relationship in the show XP Just deal with it.

Yes, I know Chizuru loves her sister, but I saw it more as sisterly love. During the dream sequence, I kept thinking how much Akarin would pay that in the rest of the episode/series. We already got, more or less, the episode without her in the first season, I don't think it'd be a problem for the director to make one more. Also that introduction, this time it went well until the end... :p
Still the sequence was so over the top that it was fit as a brief characters' resume; particularly glad to see Ayano and looking forward to more of her.
In the second segment the Yuruyuri anime's shown its weakest side, which is when none of the side characters is there. As much as powerful and hilarious the main four are, you just can't keep the absurdity level/balance given by the likes of Ayano, the twins and the tsundere rivals. But in a sense that is reassuring, season 1 started in the same way after all.

Yuru Yuri Quaver 02 - Super Sexy Commando Kyoko vs the Snake

Akari has returned to the lot in life she's used to. Being ignored by cameramen and generally made the butt of jokes. But that's the Akarin I love. The first talking segment was largely enjoyable (so Kyoko has dreams of turning the Amusement Club into a Sentai team... good move.), with so many tangents that it equaled Joshiraku. Yuppi, Kyoppi, Akari not being very fond of "Akarin!" and what it means... but the one thing I took from this segment was the facial expressions. Mostly Kyoko and Akari's, though Chinatsu had some great ones, too. Plenty of avatar-worthy material in there.

As for the student council, they're on top form. The SakuHima teasing at the beginning was a bit of an old gag, but the snake catching that followed afterward was pulled off pretty well. My favorite line was "Does Akari even like snakes?" Probably not. As for the third, "hand-gargling". Kyoko taking Akari's ideas for her own was my favorite part. With the spectacle of the first episode done, this was an overall fun return to form. Valentine's Day is next.

Yui and Kyoko's leitmotifs sound really dynamic, with gunslinger Yui standing out in particular.

Amazingly energetic and entertaining episode. I really enjoyed Yui and Kyouko's time alone; those scenes raised both the charm and humor level. I also liked the roach's POV scene. There's so many little things to love about the show, I really appreciate the level of polish.

Yuru Yuri's second season has so far accomplished the daunting task of exceeding my already sky-high expectations. Really, really good entertainment.

First Kyouko and Yui in the club room alone was just great, I enjoyed Kyouko's desperate attempts to see Yui's homework and the resulting fails :D and Kyouko's completely unrelated tangents. The nickname parts was a bit slow, but fun, and I look forward to Kyouko's character song from the teaser. And Ayano's face when she was misunderstanding what Sakurako and Himawari were doing was absolutely priceless :heh:. And Kyouko's bad sleep pattern isn't far off from my own :uhoh:. Kyouko had quite a few amusing moments during the cold prevention scene.

I also highly reccomend that doujin. A crossover between Fate/Zero and Yuruyuri sounded crazy even to me (and I didn't even watch Fate/Zero), but it ends up working incredibly well. It's 13 chapters of pure amazing.

Yuru Yuri Quaver 03 - Embarrassing Boobs Are Forbidden

Akari's getting smarter. But that UFO is out for revenge. If next week begins with Akari being abducted, I wouldn't be surprised. Though this was clearly a SakuHima episode, Akari's suffering continues. And as Chinatsu's story shows, even though we haven't seen into Akari's mind in a fortnight, it's clear that her dreams of power continue, and probably will long into high school and beyond.

But, SakuHima. Of all the characters in the show, these two have a really great dynamic. The whole thing was still funny, but also kind of sad. Sakurako's really out of her element without Himawari, and Akari just can't keep up with her. And there's the "Toshino Kyoko!" everyone was waiting for, even if it was said in a pouty and kind of subdued manner. Chinatsu's pixellated chocolate left a lot to the imagination, and it's scarier that way. Probably turned out like Sera's cooking in KoreZom; it's amazing it wasn't eating through the box.

And, of course, sisterly love, from both the Ikeda and Akaza families. We didn't see the results of Akane's chocolate, but when a lot's left to the imagination, it's __________er that way. I enjoyed this one. The segments were distinct enough, but still linked, and SakuHima were in top form.

As a HimaSaku fan, I naturally liked this episode more than the entire first season (the first half was simply excellent). But as much as I LOVE SakuHima - Sakurako's tantrum is too exaggerated to be funny and sweet (I guess this is the downside of seeing things animated, anime always takes things to the extreme). For God's sake, Himawari only neglects her for a short time and she's already throwing stuff and rolling around on the floor. And after all this, she still treats Himawari like her servant. Am I the only one who facepalmed when there was this super-sad music playing in the background? Reminded me of that episode where Kyoko lost her memories and everyone was moping around (also a horribly dramatized scene).

The ending gave me the creeps...incest pairings always do this to me. The only good thing about Akane is Hocchan's voice, but I didn't even get to hear her voice! ;_;

Oh ho, a valentine's day episode. It proved once again that men do not exist in the Yuruyuri verse. I would have loved to see what Chinatsu's chocolate and scarf looked like, but as Midonin said, it's probably better left to the imagination. I'm happy Ayano managed to give her chocolate to Kyoko thanks to Chitose's help (who was rewarded for her support). Akari gave chocolate to everybody, but didn't receive any *... forever Akarin ;_;

*except from her lovely sister whom I hope to see more of very soon.

The bulk of the episode was dedicated to Himawari and Sakurako, and since I love these two, I enjoyed it very much. I had not fully realized how close they are until now. They're almost like a married couple already. Their relationship is akin to Yui and Kyoko's.

It was exaggerated, but I thought it fit Sakurako's character quite well. She takes any kind of emotion to the extreme.

I was also disappointed we didn't get to hear Hocchan's voice. I'm happy Akane finally showed up nonetheless. I think I'm going to love her :D

Just saw #3 and I have seen no men at all through the show... Someone correct me, but I believe, I saw Yui dad in season 1, when her little cousin (or niece) left after the holiday.

This episode wasn't my favorite at all, to much focus on Sakurako & Himawari. I thought it would be good to focus on them once and a while, but it turned out bad :(

Valentines day... clearly the idea of giving chocolate to boys never crossed the minds of any of these girls. It's all about giving chocolate to yuri crushes.

How is it that the things Chinatsu doesn't try hard on come out normal, but the things she puts real effort into are so horrific that they can't be shown on television? Does she actually think that's the way they're supposed to be? There's something really warped under that girl's cute exterior...

Ayano is Ayano... but her Toshino Kyoko was weak. Needs more volume! Doors must be thrown open to the cry of TOSHINO KYOKO!

Ha! The demon has returned. I'd forgotten about that side-effect of chocolate. Shame on me. Chizuru didn't seem to mind...

And a wild Akane appeared! ...Run for your life, Akari.

The preview looks like all sorts of fun next week. Too many interesting things to pick and choose.

Yeah, I have that feeling too. It'd be a sin to note that Yui Horie is the seiyuu and then NOT use her though. It's not a matter of trolling, that's on the level of informing the world that you've got the cure to cancer, and then go into hiding for the rest of your life instead of revealing it.

Watched episodes 2 and 3, and thought they were pretty good. They're being pretty generous with the Sakurako and Himawari screentime so far. It's a nice change and I'm a fan of them, but I'm more into the other pairings. I'm happy for their fans, though.

Also, the yuri elements are a lot more noticeable this season. Characters seem to be a lot more aware of it compared to the first season IMO.

I'm really liking it. Seems to be improvement across the board for the most part.

You haven't watched enough. There are plenty that shows such placements. Even I ate like that into my high school years.

Himawari and Sakurano are truly meant for each other, which gets noticeable when one of the pair hangs out with someone else. Akari did a good job filling in for her, but it's just not the same.

I forgot that Chitose becomes a sex-maniac after eating chocolates. Chizuru didn't really seemed to mind, though.

And Akari should feel glad that there is at least one character who loves her. Then again, Akane probably loves her a bit too much.

And Chinatsu is a mystery. She can make good stuff when she's snot trying and when she does try, the result is something you'd see in a horror movie. I agree with Yui, how does she do that?

Yuru Yuri Quaver 04 - Mecharinger Z

Time flies when you're having fun.

Mecharin didn't have anything to do with the alien abduction last week, but two sci-fi angles in two weeks for the title calls makes me wonder where they're going to go next. Gas mask Ayano was pretty funny. KyoAya was the centerpiece of this episode, as encapsulated by their pudding/rum raisin exchange. Part of what makes the second season work a lot smoother is that we already know the characters and their personalities, their relationships, their gimmicks. So the show can jump right into the comedy without having to ease us into anything, and it shows.

I suspected that Nishigaki was lying her ass off with that Choco the Robo Dog story... and she was. It wasn't even in the show's usual animation style! So she's been naturally drawn to explosions. Much the same reason why Kyoko's so energetic or Akari's not there. They always have been.

Kyoko... everything about her is fun to watch. From her design in board games (and subsequent confession to herself... which is true) to giving Yui boxing gloves as a gift... but the greatest moments in the final sketch came from Akari. I love how everyone treats her hair dango as separate entities from Akari herself, now trying to claim they're teru teru bozu. Quite multifunctional. And for once, Akari's lack of presence worked in her favor. Guess Akarin's disease isn't as bad as it seems.

A nice split of focus between the student council and the amusement club this week, with quite a few great gags sprinkled throughout. And hearing Rise talk at an audible volume in the preview was... kind of creepy. The lack of BGM didn't help. It's a role Saori Goto's good at playing (see also: Kukuru)

That was brilliant. Akari is so pitiful sometimes... and yet so cute and funny. She's definitely one of my favorite character in the show.

I very much enjoyed Ayano's scenes, although there weren't quite enough interactions with TOSHINO KYOKO for my tastes. Not a lot of yuri fantasies from Chitose either (she did fantasized a lot, but we didn't get to see what was going on inside her head).

I didn't post how much I enjoyed ep 3 and loved Sakurako's antics for some reason :confused::uhoh:. While episode 4 felt slightly slower than past few have, though I really enjoyed Nishigaki's antic especially carrying Rise under her arms and including the gasmasks and Mecharin :heh:. The cleaning the student council room was fairly good too.

So far, season 2 is doing everything right. The second-years are no longer hogging the spotlight and all the characters get their fair share of screentime. It's the ensemble cast that shines now and not just Kyouko, which is quite refreshing.

I chuckled when I saw how nonchalantly Himawari blocked Sakurako's spray cleaner attack with a cleaning cloth. Yui's boxing gloves also made me giggle, though I did pity her a bit (kind of sad when your friend just randomnly buys you something without giving it some thought). And Chinatsu...she's clearly using every opportunity to hug/smother Yui! :p Next episode seems to indicate Kaede-chan's return. I wonder when Mari-chan will revisit the cast. Or the other sisters.

Ah, Ayano's crush on Kyoko never gets old. Funny how she silently agreed to give Sakurano her pudding, yet fiercely defended the rum raisin ice cream she got from Kyoko.

The best part was where all the girls got wet when, with the sole exception of Akari, who managed to put her 'talent' to good use for a change. Think about it, even water denies her very presence.

As for the episode, loved that it focused on Ayano. This is why I'm watching lol. Can totally relate with the allergy segment. I get pretty bad allergies every year and it definitely sucks. Lol, I love how creative they are when making fun of Akari. That whole rain splash thing was brilliant lol. Great episode.

Yuru Yuri Quaver 05 - Feed the Birds (2円 a Bag)

This was a really great episode. The sketches were still fairly distinct, but they flowed naturally into one another, with the summer theme linking all of them (and some other themes). If there's any way to review them, best to do it in show order.

Kyoko would put Yui up to doing the title call. Akari doesn't like it either way.

Kyoko's AC adventure was hilarious. Even when given a very clear-cut goal, she still finds a way to slack off, and was barely aware of what kind of batteries she needed in the first place. And it set up the idea of creatures attacking Akari for reasons she can't comprehend.

The presence of mosquitoes and Akari missing the train called up memories of Joshiraku, but with the difference of Tetora missing the train because of her good luck... and Akari missing it because of the opposite. The pool segment was inspired. They could've easily shown us the pool antics (and sort of did, second hand), but the focus was on Akari first and foremost. Little details like her pool ticket blowing past the window and her missing the train and not even noticing it made it the best segment of the episode. Poor Akari.

Kyoko's second segment was alright (where she got the dog mask, I'm not certain), with the RPG segment standing out. Akari would never survive in SAO. Nor would Kyoko, for entirely different reasons. This kind of makes me want to see a full Yuru Yuri RPG episode. After all, Yui's games have been part of her character since the beginning.

More SakuHima! And another appearance by the thoughtful Kaede. (Voiced by Aya Uchida, who I'm glad to see getting work. After the reception Ascoeur got, seeing her in another role is good. Same for her costar Aya Goda, but she's not in this show). The idea that she would "share" her breasts with Sakurako when she grows up was charming and yet, one wonders if Sakurako will go for the Furutani Sisters End.

Then more Akari suffering. As I said before, all the segments in this episode worked really well together, with some well-timed running gags and more screentime for Akari, now in her element. Chitose and Ayano's eyecatches down, two more to go. Of course, next week is Comiket and Mirakurun. And I'm looking forward to that even more.
