Well, it wasn't as rage-inducing as last week.
It's confirmed that Neo Gai was behind the entire coup. HAH, It didn't take long before those little shits got what was coming. Gai displays the ability to forcefully yank out three voids at once, turn it into a missile, destroy a jet with it and effectively kill the students whose voids he used.
Daryl's heel face turn felt incredibly abrupt but understandable since he bears a grudge against Gai. I didn't see it properly but I think Daryl killed a number of the students in the process of both rebelling and trying to save Tsugumi.
Lil' Miss Kuhouin doesn't get to be by her dear Gai's said and instead ends up working with the rest of his forces (Hah!). The episode doesn't make her character any bit likeable at all.
This week's highlight was definitely how Inori was 100% human for once, showing more emotions than she's ever had in 17 episodes combined. The scene where she tells Shu how she'll always be by his side no matter what happens was quite sweet. Too bad the writers went with the whole "I must now leave you because they're after me and not you" routine. The plus side is that she was given her very first solo battle scene where she takes down several endlaves like a super ninja with Apocalypse Virus crystal things as her weapons. That didn't last long though, since Jesus Gai still needs her and promptly takes her down. =(
Shu? He spent most of the episode moping but by the end he's all alone yet has a determined look in his eyes. At this point there's no where else to go but up for him. (Provided the writers are done trying to screw him.)
Oh and Kenji finally returns into the fray after being utter dropped after the first half. Working for Messiah Gai no less. Yep, just another week of Guilty Crown.

For some reason, I couldn't remove the image of Felicia from Darkstalkers and Kerrigan from Starcraft when Inori charged in :heh:
"Decent" episode, although I wonder if it was really necessary to toss Arisa's gramps like that, especially how out of the left field he appeared there (it really seems that Tokyo became quite easily to sneak in, despite there was only 1 single entrance made so far).
But frankly, I'm more like puzzled by this "natural" felty of all soldiers to Gai: the inconditional loyalty displayed in this episode was more funny than I would expect. I would understand if he was basically Keido's right hand, but the way how they expressed their "mission/duty", it is as if Gai was the literal savior in this whole mess.

And HELL ****ING YES, die bastard kids DIE! :bash: Just one left now, though it looks like Argo and Tsugumi have gotten off the hook. (well, there's still a chance Argo could die before series' end, but it looks like Tsugumi's going to make it, unless she dies with Daryl)

i would like to point out that after this episode i am more sure than ever that Arisa is not making it to the end of the show. She has just as many death flags waving in the wind as Hare did.

I can't belive what Gai say at the end ...come on you 're the fake and say something like this.
I happy thought about who is death...now what I want is that Shu go take back is girlfriend(can we say like this now right?:p)
And that Neo-Gai die :p

I didnt understand all the dialog due to my nihongo still be limited. But this episode proved that this is not Gai. This Gai is the opposite of everything the original stood for. However, he has all of Gai's memories but its almost like his personality has been overwritten. So the body is real but the mind is fake.

Im with you on this man. Why the hell did they feel the need to throw gramps into the mix this late in the game. The only reason i can think of is to complete Arisa turn to the other side by having her kill her own grandfather. However he did try to kill her first and he was a bad ass i wouldn't mess with him. However, Arisa did not seemed troubled by the fact she just killed her own grandfather.
Haruka ....well im not sure what to say here she seems to have the determination to do whatever it is shes going to do. But as the camera panned over and we see the pictures, she obviously still has a heart and she is still thinking of Shu, Mana and Gai. im more confused than ever. We have no clue why she is doing what she isor what and what her mind set is.
I agree with you on this crazy loyalty undying fanatical loyalty of these troops to Neo Gai. Gai is obviously just the puppet to get what Keido wants. Unless he ordered them to obey all commands from Gai. I just dont get it and it seems so fake as Arisa sudden loyalty to a organization and plan she knows nothing about. Her character is really pointless right now.
Sinestra@ True. Still I want him die and that shu take back Inori.Seriously can these two have a break?

Wait so did Gai just become Japan's dictator?
That remains to be seen but at this point in time Neo Gai has.
-Rendered Shu useless and has isolated him
-Taken all the students that have Voids for himself
-Has pretty much the entire GHQ military at his disposal
-An elite special forces unit that displays fanatical loyalty to him (Arisa is now part of this unit)
-Captured Inori (I called this one i knew they still needed her)
-Completely and utterly annihilated the UN's pacific fleet.
-Japan is under GHQ control completely which would make either Neo Gai or Keido the undisputed ruler of Japan. No one has the power to oppose them at the moment.
I would also like to say goodbye to Scythe Void user girl. She was the one that showed loyalty to Shu and also was one of the ones that went with him during the charge to destroy the ghost system. Im not sure if she tried to take on Gai because of what he forced out several students Voids hence killing them or because he attacked Shu either way she was the only that tried to put a fight but Neo Gai showed another power of his. To turn any Void user in crystal with the wave of his hand.

wait the episode is already out?? where u watch it?
Tenchi Hou Take@Just this once...he go right away to take Inori back ..it seem....and in one clip you see the whole ray of light when Shu take out Inori void..and I don't think the bad guy would do this...wich mean ...Shu is the one.
But my question still the same ..I mean new hand or not that is to much only for him.

Problem being Shu has no power right now and Inori is in the hands of Darth Gai. However Shu has proven that he can be resourceful. The way i see it in order for Shu to acquire his "Gods Hand" he needs to do a few things but he cant do it alone. Normally i would put this in the speculation thread but im using info based on the current episode.
-Link up with anyone who is still resisting (Tsugumi and the rest because they did not go with Gai and or get in touch with the UN and try to get some troops on the ground)
-formulate a plan
-Break into GHQ headquarters
-Take Inori back
-Figure out what the hell is going on so he can stop it once and for all
-Destroy the 3rd Genome even if it means killing Haruka
-POWA UP
-Destroy any and all data that would allow this type of shit to happen again. As a -matter just Destroy EVERYTHING
-PWN EVERYONE
-Fight Gai in a place where he wont any access to Void users and take his ass down like Obi wan kenobi took down Anikin Skywalker
-Tell anyone left alive like Ayase,Haruka,Tsugumi and anyone who screwed in the past to SUCK ONE and roll out.
-Find a quiet tropical island with Inori drink some Maitai's listen to some Egoist and get busy on the beach :heh:
These are just the basic things i thought of based on the information we got from the episode
Sinestra@ Well you're right .I don't think shu want to wait.Or try to gain their help.I mean he do know what they want to do with inori(he was there the first time ...in ep 12).
but i really do want that Shu and Inori gain their happy ending after all this crap tha they go through.

Logically most of that would happen if the writers bothered to develop this rescue plan properly though I don't see Shu defeating Gai without access to voids. Most probably they'll both have access to them, since that seems to be the natural progression of this story.
The first thing Shu need is take Inori back..For his own mental health then he can deal with this Neo Gai and the other.
I'm for taking back Inori and his hand and getting the heck out of there. Let those idiots die. :heh:
orion@ The problem is that neo gai and the other(yuu and Keido) will not let them alone. I mean they want Inori so...Shu have to deal with them if he want to be with Inori.

true but in order to get her back he will have to break in to GHQ headquarters and get her out. There is no way in hell he is doing that without help because of heavily guarded it is. What they need is a a distraction.
I do agree with you here Sinestra...the probelm is I do not think that Shu is in the state of mind to think something like that. At least that Ayase herself say this and try to made him think. But I see this really hard.

Time for my weekly "this anime could've been amazing and groundbreaking if the writers were better than they are" post. There's the bones of a *fantastic* story in Guilty Crown, and no matter how comparatively better this second half has been its not enough (and it's not as good as it would've been following after a solid first half).
Next week it's time for team Shu + Daryl + Tsugumi + Ayase, I think. Maybe Yahiro, too? I don't even have a lot to say about this episode specifically, except it confirmed my long-standing guesses about Inori. Well, that, and it was really funny finally hearing her talk in complete sentences.
Well, anyone else who's seen the episode want to guess which is likelier: Does jealous Alice interfere with the wedding? Or does Inori's having already kissed Shu mean the magic wedding is no good, b/c she's already magically married to him?
Really looking forward to watching this tonight!!!

Are they really going with Daryl and Tsugumi pair? All from a candy apple? The pairings for these shows lack development. Heck this episode was the only real development Shu and Inori really had.

A decent episode.
I laughed like a madman when Neo-Gai used the ones that helped out with Arisa's coup. Only for them to die.
I guessing this is the last episode that Shu is screwed with. They betray him, took his power along with an arm, and now they take his girl? I think he's ready to take a stand. I'm also glad that they are finally portraying Inori has a person with real feelings and emotions, instead of a porcelain doll. It was good, but like every GC episode, it was could be better.
I also absolutely loved Argo's and Tsugumi's expressions at Neo-Gai's speech (even though by Japanese skills are non-existent). You screw the shoe that helped you to get out, only to deal with a bigger tyrant. And like rats, they'll scurry back to Shu.

Hahahahahaha oh dude that felt so good watching those twits finally die, was still shocked on how that carpet bomber was disarmed so easily, the rest that followed were not predictable by a long shot.
Really Arisa? Only a sword slash away from fulfilling your death flag? TRY HARDER!
Ok Ep 18 left me hanging just like ep 17.
For all Arisa defenders here you go, bitch was talking with GAI on the phone, and did what she did.
Haruka still shouldn't be forgiven even if authors try to make her that way.
Mana in Inori confirmation 100%.
Now wonder what did Gai mean, is there some race of Crystal Monsters or smth? Cause Inori kinda transformed.
Ohhh and the 3 rebelled people got offed so fast I was like "lol so fast ^^".
So let the discussion start. Arisa still is a dog bitch following Gai like she used to hehehe ^^.
Hmmmmm now I wonder what will Shu do as he got his resolve but still he's hopeless.
Seems that I am wrong here. I thought that three backstabber will live happily after, but they got killed so fast in this episode by turning them into a missile.
Guys as for the How Shu will get his hand and all that stuff. Go to spoilers section, there is preview of ep 19, and a little highlight on how he will get his power back. Or read 1st page of this thread there 1 person gave a summary of preview.

Wasn't Daryl lying on the bed in the room where Segai was playing chess with the other dude. Or in one of those Cell Rooms, all beaten up.
And as far as it goes I wouldn't want Tsugumi anywhere near Shu, she can go DIAF with Daryl all she wants.
After their Hero Master Gai became bad they got a change of mind? Fuc$ EM.
Last but not least, I'm kinda Sad that Jesus Gai used his *ass pull* skill of required void at required time and place. Would be nice if Inori actually beheaded Arisa. But noes Gai know the future. Bow of roots was such an ass pull that its not even facepalm worthy.

Didn't grandpa go through all the trouble to get Arisa out of the quarantine?
and know he decides to kill her
I mean, even if she's a failure of a granddaughter that's still harsh. She literally doesn't have anyone who loves her anymore. I'd rather be Shu rather than her.

Thats Japanese Bushido for you.
He was clearly a Samurai or one that followed old ways.
He wanted to clean up his mess. In his mind Arisa hijinks was because of her upringing by him. Honor demanded that he will kill her himself.
Thing is that he still couldn't do it, and thats why our DutchWife Arisa was able to shot him.
You saw how he offed those guys, no way in hell Arisa would be able to survive if he really had the will to kill her. He choose to die IMO, because he just couldn't kill his family.
Think like this, once you swing sword you won't stop it by getting shoot in the stomach, you will still follow with your swing. Yet he clearly stopped his hand. To bad :(.

^ Yeah, it was obvious from his introduction that gramps didn't have the typical love and affection for Arisa that typical grandparents have.
wow it was painful to watch~

If we should classify Inori as monster, then there would be not enough scale to put GHQ on it. She kills in self defense, and only by her inner instinct (until this ep that is).
Btw I wonder what did those endlave users felt. I'm sure that the people responsible for *panic button* weren't fast enough. Did they hurt as Evangelion users or not ^^. Dude getting a beheading in his endlave must not felt so good.
Also ancient organsation that has members in all ruling governements, am I watching a B rated hollywood action flick?

(No, really, I can't be the only one who thought this when she went queen of blades on us)
Lol Daryl going against Gai and allowing Tsugumi and the others to escape. Kind of cool how Gai took out that whole fleet. So Gai is in charge now. Poor Inori had to confront Mana about being human and not a monster. She was freaking awesome though when she took out the endlaves. Wow how can Gai call her a monster. So Haruka did it so Shu wouldn't have the responsibilities of the king. Arisa got shafted after betraying everyone, but she deserves it. Lol her grandpa was badass until she shot him.

This was, for me, a fulfilling episode, so I'll give it a 9/10. Neo Gai did not disappoint, breaking out some impressive skills. That combo missile was quite cool, and it's surely karma that those 2 assholes got offed so easily. Well, their death at least had a use. Pity about that scythe chick, she wasn't so bad.
The highlight of this episode was Inori. I've always harboured a fondness for Rei type characters and this episode is the perfect example why. If you'll pardon the pun, voids exist to be filled, both in nature and in people, and seeing them be filled is always interesting no matter how it's done.
As for Arisa, well what about her I can safely say that her cowardice and blind devotion towards someone who doesn't give a shit about her will only lead to a bad end. I'm looking forward to it.
Another thing I'm looking forward to is Shu's next move.

Those satellites probably belong to GHQ, and it seems Gai is deep in that organization, so yeah...
As for the ancient organization thing, that's such a staple, I can't mind it, really.

It wasn't Gai but Leucocyte or whatever that satellite weapon is called.
You have that kid who they freed from prison (Remember the ep where they invaded GHQ to free that gagged kid) operating it. Dunno if he is inside or on ground but he is the one operating that satellite laser.

All I'm hoping for is that Shu is going to rip Haruka apart. Damn b*tch >< I wish a lot of people die in those that are left, but I want to see her suffer the most.
Gah we have to wait another week for the next episode, every time is more excruciating than the last.
Supposedesly there's several hundred under Japanese control. How that happened? God knows....
Theres a lot of WTF moments in GC, and a lot of WTF plot twists in GC.
But I still think that hundreds of those satellites are overstatement. It just impossible.
Hell I will probably be like a "Haruka forgiveness earned +10" in next ep.
All I'm hoping for is that Shu is going to rip Haruka apart. Damn b*tch >< I wish a lot of people die in those that are left, but I want to see her suffer the most.
Thats the problem. I kinda don't like her myself. But it seems that next episode she will get a "remembering flashbacks with young Shu" and then she will help him get 3rd void. Even in this ep under shower there was *that atmosphere* about her. Which makes me kinda go O_o. I just cannot picture that woman mind, one second she hurts her son and next second she do a 180 turn around.
This ep was good and i love the part when Inori took out the endlaves with her new look.
Next week we going to see Shu get ready to take back what is his .
where did all the students die. Gramps even talked about some of the students telling what happened or something along that line. I think only 3 students died
LOLOL this was soo delicious i couldn't stop drooling..
i mean common that stupid Arisa should've known.. trash will always be trash no matter how you spread your legs or purr like a kitten.i was truely surprised when i noticed that she wasn't a virgin since she looked like she enjoyed spreading just for some info to plot a coup det 'at. did she think neo-gai would notice her at all? her role was already over since the first time they crossed paths back on that boat when gai made shu use her void for the first time. too bad gramp's couldn't finish the job but hopefully inori will.
wow if only we could swap neo-gai for shuu i would've loved this anime.. 3 voids simultaneously to a unison fusion then breaking it at will is just too damn good.. without standing 5 feet in-front of target void holders was really intriguing.. this whole dictator act of his is pathetic... i thought he was a soldier of principle and his whole destroying the anti-bodies was his numero-uno but meh it just goes to show that sometimes BAD GUYS DO WIN
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO INORI !! demon blade mode ftw! too bad she got caught after her rampage tho i wanted to see some mastery or raw talent from her solo mode against neo-gai for a short skirmish..
so looks like mama shu was okay with the fact baby lost his arm... with all her knowledge she sure is dumb on how to raise a kid tho..
shu is hurting for feeling betrayed.. i don't want him to develop into another Tsunayoshi from that other useless anime hit man reborn whose pathetic on his own and is always a coward.
i want some sengoku basara action from the next or coming episodes cause there is too much emo-crap going around and my interest bar just dropped.
i dunno if any of you guys noticed this but did anyone notice something totally fake about ep 17.? how the hell did neo-gai yank out inori's void and cut of shu's arm and if he already had shu's powers why the need to cut his arm and take the powers? or was he just mad at the fact shu was running things? Also gotta love how the remnants of FP looked once they saw their beloved leader abandon them after giving his ultimatum.. when i saw that scene i just thought of sheep and their shepherd.. 1 day he's guiding you to nice plains of grass to lay around and eat and he protects you from wild beasts who wanna eat you just so he can sell you off to the highest bidder later or better yet eat you for dinner.

This was a pretty OK episode. I like the fact that we get a glimpse into Inori's feelings and inner conflict; if only we had gotten them sooner. Her in 'battle gear mode' was nice to watch.
And now they insert in some 'secret ancient organisation.' :heh: The scene during which Arisa's grandfather charged in and got shot was kinda random. I also don't really get Arisa's devotion to Gai - it felt awkward and sudden.
Judging from this ep and the preview, it seems that Haruka might have a change of heart and attempt to help Shu.

Dem I really hope Inori to live till the end of story
some good anime such as katanagatar End tragically
I really want to see gai brutally killed by shu and inori.
And hope inori and shu see their happy ending

Oh I feel ya. SC2's story was a stepdown from 1 and broodwars, even if the campaign was the most fun I've ever had with any RTS's campaign.
lol @ around 19:09 to 21:00 inori looks soo badass with her ninja shoes and her blades.. it looks like she can also freely use voids too so we can now add that to her unsumble of mysteriousness..
the whole mana girl appearing in inori's unconsciousness is starting to annoy me.. why now? after they supposedly killed her off.. i hope she is inori's bijuu lawl cause i don't want to see her revived i rather just see inori taping into her powers and keeping her in check

Isn't inori a clone of sorts of hers or at least she was engineered to have at least some of her dna, void powers whatever. It's not really surprising she showed up probably the same thing happened to mana which made her go crazy.
@ Tenchi
well not exactly i think inori is mana but still asleep.. i forgot what episode it was but thy showed baby shu, mana, gai and the whole lost Christmas incident. but long story short mana dies and gai leaves and all of a sudden we have inori.
then if u watched the ep about the wedding that old man tried to have with inori too shu impales her and gai through so its safe to assume that mana has power over all voids and i dunno why people are obsessed with marrying her forcefully. its kinda pathetic.
but for you all who haven't seen ep 19 preview gai is also trying to tie that knot... i won't spoil the rest but i really really really hate neo gai

Yeah I know all that, I'm not talking about mana, mana more about the alien alter ego that wanted to mate with Shu which inori clearly shows traits of. Basically Inori is part mana/was made from mana's void and that alter ego of mana wants her to do what the original mana couldn't.

That doesn't answer question though. How did the other countries let that happen? Just how? Did they not notice the several hundred orbital strike capable weapons Japan just so happened to be launching up there?
Isn't GHQ a multinational organization? Those were probably launched by GHQ for their own purposes, and with the Anti Bodies little coup, they are no in their hands.

Inori is the vessel for the rebirth of Mana. Mana and Inori are telepathically linked. That why when Inori was looking like she was about to strip Shu and the eyes looked different, you know it's Mana. The brocon can not be denied her Shu.
They prob only needed one crystal of Mana to reproduce Mana like they did Gai.

Okay, that transformation was freaking hilarious. I haven't laughed so much at the show in a long time. Where the heck did that transformation come from, and why the hell does she look like that? Are you really expecting me to take that look seriously without proper buildup?
The rest of the episode was pretty dull though. I just didn't give a crap about what was happening. I guess I did like those dickheads dying, but besides and the final scene, "eh".

A very painful and yet somehow beautiful episode.
Daryl: two words: god dammit! Why the hell did he have to get killed off? Just when he showed his human side. I was shocked though. Quite literally taken by surprise. For 17 episodes, I was sure that he was a psychopath but he showed compassion for Tsugumi and protected her.
Arisa: Is signing her death certificate, for sure. I don't think Gai has the least amount of romantic attachment to her. If anything, she's a sacrificial lamb to reclaim Inori for his own purposes. Even so, I'm glad my suspicion was correct and it was Gai she was talking to on the phone. Hopefully she'll die next week.
Shu: I'm not shocked. I would be quite upset and depressed if everyone had betrayed me. Regardless, I think the fact he's saying "I'm sorry, everyone" is because he let things get as bad as they are. He does say "I was wrong/mistaken." But still, denying Inori's near blowjob:p? Not allowed! Still, he's a lot more active at being around Inori in this episode than past.
Inori: I am shocked! I expected her to remain cold. However, I have noticed with a few episodes lately that she is becoming more human. The previous episode, 16 to be exact, showed her giving concern. Then 17 had her realizing she'd hurt Arisa without her knowledge. I am shocked that she's opening up but I think they gave hints along the way. As for Mana being within her... that's just... kinda sick.
Gai: The return of one of my favorite characters - mostly because Nakamura voices him. However, this wasn't how I wanted him back.:( I want my Gai back! This Gai can just be killed off.
All over, a very interesting episode with developments in characters finally - at least that are relevant and helpful. Looking forward to next episode.
@LoveMeKags
Daryll wasn't killed. He is beaten up and in lockdown in GHQ HQ.
Before Segai and glasses dude chess match you have daryl lying on bed scene. His cell is right besides the glasses dude.
As for Arisa I wonder if Gai didn't pork her long time ago after ship scene. Seems to me that she may have sticked her ass out for Gai already. And its by Gai order that she takes Nanba sausage in her grill.
@hoarfrost
You are wrong.
Gai killed 3 people with his Rocket void, it was the 3 people that betrayed Shu in ep 17, they talked to him and then twisted around with guns, it was nanba the other dude and 1 girl.
Scythe girl died by being shoot by endlave (her void that is).
Few kids die by ricotchet shoots from Daryl, rest got captured or escaped.
As for Shu wound I wonder if Inori didn't use some of her crystal magic. After all she had that stun forehead tap of hers.

Man, it's been a while since an episode of GC reached this level of silliness.
Gai, with the help of the Illuminati or whatever has taken over the world with his 256 leukocytes. Maybe he should give some advice to the Iranians, as you can't seem to build a damn ICBM without everyone and their mother finding out on this planet, much less launch hundreds of kill-sats.
Since their arc is over, we kill off all the students by somehow allowing Gai to use all of their voids at once to create a totally different void to destroy a B2. Whatever, no one even cares about the void rules recommendations at this point.
Arisa kills her own grandfather, who manages to take out a few gunmen from a few meters away with a blade. Because whoring her out wasn't enough to get the point across how dishonorable we should all think she is. What's with this show and patricide?
Shu is just kind of moping around, conspicuously unconcerned about his gaping arm wound and massive blood loss.
Highlight of the episode for me:
Daryl:"Wait a minute, I know I'm currently in the middle of breaking the chain of command to risk my life to kill a guy who I for some reason believe is responsible for me killing my own father, but isn't that the girl who made me carry boxes and gave me a candy apple once?" I guess this appalling lack of diligence is why he is never seen doing anything remotely successful.

Or it just shows what kind of life he has led before - that such a small thing can have such a big impact on him????
About the rest I guess Xaturas has said everything I feel about this series also oO
--> And I'm actually glad to read all this Arisa hate in this forum :) since I feel the same way.

Great episode. I think Inori's self realization is probably the most important point. I did not expect all the students to be backstabbed so quickly, that was a good scene. When they come asking (begging) Shu for help again, I hope he turns them down.
Next ep is titled "Rebirth" so I'm hoping that is when Shu will get his new "Zone of Enders Metatron" arm :).

Hotdamn, those ShuxInori scenes really boosted up the episode. Though things played out differently from what I was expecting (no crystal arm yet) that feature is pretty much confirmed for next week, as well as Inori rescue "arc" #2.

As for Shu not dying of blood loss, I'm just going to assume Inori closed the wound somehow, as there are worse logic holes in the anime.

Combining Voids was something even Shu could do. It's not something new. Shu combined Inori's Void with Kenji's Void to create that gun to shoot down the Leucocyte in an earlier episode.

As I said before, I vote on Inori Crystal Magic.
She has some special skills with crystals. After all she stunned Shu with a tap of her finger on his forehead, while making some crystal magic. She probably did same with hand, unless she did some major surgery on him somewhere in some hospital.
If it was real life then Shu would be already dead from blood loose and/or heavy infection.

Ummm wasn't that Inori+Mana sword? After all Mana manifested in that scene saying that she will borrow Shu her power. Gun void was given back as far as I remember.

This episode made me think of a chef working at a restaurant late at night, when he looks around and sees all the stuff he’s going to have to throw away when the restaurant closes. So he takes everything that’s left over, tosses it into a big pot, simmers it for a while and tells the front-of-house manager to add it to the “Specials” board. “What do you want to call it?” the FOH guy asks. The chef thinks about it for a minute, scratches his chin thoughtfully, and says “Let’s call it Guilty Crown.”

I don't see her transforming to be a big deal to tell the truth .
We know she was not normal and in ep 16\17 it look like she used some type of blade weapon on Arisa hand.
This being GC i expect something like this would happen it's only normal for this show.
Truth is i expected blades to come out her body in some way they just went the extra mile to add a new outfit and hair style lol.

---
As a side note: everything that happened in the episode has been foreshadowed in past episodes. People who take it too harshly are kinda not watching the show all the way through or ignoring details that might help them.
As for random characters: that's common in anime to help the moral theme (albeit the moral theme has been dead for five to ten episodes). In this case, it was intended to remind the character that he is not the only one suffering in the show but innocents like that boy as well. And so, the main character needs to stand up so he can rescue the innocents left behind. It's a moral thing. In any anime that is about war and times of great need, this is also inserted to remind the audience of what they are fighting for. Once you realize that, they don't seem so random or weird, they become a part of the reason the main character struggles.
As for Mana: that was really foreshadowed heavily over the last few episodes. Take Inori's sudden change in character in episode 16 for example. She suddenly changes from the cold person with no emotions really to a playful little girl and then back. Shu has a flashback of Mana at that time but Inori seems to not notice the change. But we kinda had to wonder how Mana was even alive before she was supposedly killed again by Gai? She died from her own powers (and also from the virus). So, to end this note, it is not very shocking that Mana is within Inori because we really have no clues to her past or birth.
As for transformations: is anyone besides me having flashbacks to Mana in earlier episodes, how she blew up the church, how she died, and then she's still alive despite the fact she died, then is killed by Gai, and foreshadowed throughout the episodes after? Like I said above, we know practically nothing about Inori except that Gai states she looks like Mana. So we go with what we have. So far, there were clues and hints that Inori is stronger than the average human (if we take episode 4 into account) and is able to assist the men when needed. She is certainly physically stronger than Arisa. But that leaves you to question how. Before the series' start, her void had never been seen nor drawn, yet she was still able to jump around with such agility, one that only Shu obtained after using Inori's void (in episode 2). Recent episodes have shown that Inori has hidden blades (for she injuries Arisa in episode 16). But also, when her void is not in her chest, she is able to move a bit and speak when she should be unconscious. It is like that is not her whole void. There is more to it. And therefore, we have been slowly foreshadowed of Inori's deeper powers awakening.
BTW, it kinda occurred to me that the ones Shu is apologizing to are the innocent bystanders like that "random character" you mentioned serenade_beta.:heh:

What the hell, more secret organisations? I reckon they are trying to make money by sell books and sorts to explain what is happening in the anime.
Gai and his tri-fusion missile, couldn't stop laughing.
What was irritating was time skipping inside the episode. Looks like the makers have under/overestimated how much time 22/23(?) episodes actually gives them.
One thing guy( I dont know if are the sub or what) but mana really do say that ?(that will probally her the one to kill shu or something like this?)
eh thats just psycho mana trying to trick her into letting mana take over her body. Inori is having doubts and is confused by her feelings, so mana is trying to take advantage of that. She's trying to make inori believe that if she stays by shu's side she will get him killed.

Thanks. With the sub i was unsure. I mean the way mana is there is no way in the hell that want her brother die. Thats why when I read the sub I say WTF.
Thanks again to clear this up:heh:
Well other than Inori randomly turning into Wolverine, I was able to enjoy all of Shu and Inori's scenes. I thought they were fairly genuine in their attempts to tug at out heartstrings and I could even appreciate Inori growing a personality and trying to fight those Endlaves (even if the scene did suffer from a lack of budget)
Everything else however...from the introduction of the new (storywise) cult to the facepalm worthy attempt at "nihon banzai" (Samurai beats all: Fact), the story was quite frankly a mess. I have trouble understanding why they clearly want us to hate Arise so much and yet want us to root for someone as morally depraved as Daryl but there you go. In fact, I'm having trouble understanding just what the fuck is going on altogether. It seems almost like they're going to randomly bring in aliens or something, like that ending to Assassin's Creed II
At least we don't have to suffer wingus and dingus anymore...

And thus, what I wanted to happen to the students after what they did to Shu has come true. Seeing Gai rip their voids out and use them as a missile to deflect the enemies attacks was slightly satisfying. They they shall realise why they shouldn't have betrayed Shu! Muahhahahahaha....I'm taking this too seriously aren't I? :heh: I couldn't help it, I just wanted to see those students realise what they've done :p
What I did not expect what that people like Daryl had no idea why Gai was there and still alive. I figured all members of the GHQ would be familiar with the return of Gai and would have no problem following orders etc. None of the students seemed fazed by who Gai was and what he did to Shu, which is understandable since most of them didn't know Gai in the first place and perhaps thought it was a part of the plan. As for Arugo, Tsugumi and Ayase, they themselves seemed surprised by his return (And not the fact that Shu just had his arm cut off lol)
NOOOO! They killed Scythe girl! Oh the humanity! All the high level voids are dying! I know I said I wanted Gai to kill the students, but not Scythe girl! She had an awesome void XD
Also, finally! After all that teasing they were doing, they finally made Daryl do something good! I have been waiting 18 episodes for that to happen :p He finally seemed like a badass taking on all those Mech suits, hopefully he does more badass things in the future episodes.
After all these episodes, I almost forgot about Scarface :heh: I wonder if he'll be working for Gai, or trying to use him and eventually end up killing him...it is the sort of thing he would do, after all, he was the main villain for the first 12 episodes, they wouldn't just toss him aside just like that would they?
Gahh! Dammit! Why are all the good characters dying? XD In the few minutes Arisa's grandfather had in this anime, he tottally turned into an awesome character! Damn you Arisa! Why can't you just die :p
Lastly, note to self, do not piss off Inori.

im telling you guys this shit is ending like "Return of the Sith" i have no doubt that finally battel between Neo Gai and Shu is going to be epic and i fully expect a shit load of collateral damage.
This episode was just virtually beautiful words alone cannot explain it. Incest love no it was not incest because Inori is who she is. Mana is who mana is and in the end she choose to be herself and for that true love shu she gave up who she had became. This for one was not incest. And they are the opposites mana and inori. Mana turns people to crystal and inori undoes it. Also remeber Gai said that you are the same as us a monster, the rebrought gai is different then what the original is and does not have his heart but inori CHOSE who she wanted to be. Mewtwo was a clone of a pokemon but that does not make his existence a mere copy.

Once Shu was betrayed... the entire cast of characters got whatever plot armor they had on melted away. They're all game now. No one is safe.
Gai took out Shu's old mooks. It turns out that betraying Shu was worse than just letting Shu save everyone and forgetting about what happened and going home.
Did the old dude have to eat lead? Come on. We knew Arisa was damned when she desecrated her body and stabbed Shu in the back. Gotta really rub it in? Now she's jealous of Inori.
Daryl and Tsugumi are going to die holding hands... I'd bet on it.
I wouldn't be surprised if Shu and Inori/Mana are altered clones of Kurosu and Haruka respectively.
I think this could be one of those stories that will only make sense when you see the ending. Some stuff in older episodes doesn't make sense because there is no context to them. It's also very likely that is doesn't make any sense at all at the end.
Now this is starting to get confusing. Its hard to be sure who is on whose side now. For all we know, due to some weird inner power, Shu will regrow his hand and from that he receives a 'level-up' in power. Just saying.
Since when is Shu piccolo?
HelpeRX@Never underestimate a guy who wants back the girl he loves.
Look just what Inori do in this ep for him.:heh:
I'm sure Shu will be no less for her sake:heh:

BTW, it kinda occurred to me that the ones Shu is apologizing to are the innocent bystanders like that "random character" you mentioned serenade_beta.:heh:
Nah, I think he's apologizing to us, the viewers. Or so I'd like to think. I really enjoy this show but man does everyone involved have some real apologizing to do :heh:.
But about your other points: on the one hand you're right about how Inori's transforms have all been foreshadowed, etc., before now. On the other hand, the writers *still* aren't as on top of it as they really should've been; they've been a bit sloppy with her character leading up to now.
The main thing that's bugging me here is that for her story leading up to this point to make sense, it pretty much has to be the case for Inori that (a) she could go into "beast mode" before (and has done so in the past), (b) she was conscious when in "beast mode" and would remember what she did, (c) the Funeral Parlor leadership knew she could go into "beast mode" and had her do so on some missions.
But, the past few episodes make more sense if you assume the "crystal-blade beast mode" is a new thing for Inori, largely due to Mana waking back up. So the show comes across as a bit inconsistent on this point, foreshadowing or no foreshadowing; it's trying to have its cake -- Inori mastering her "monster mode" recently -- and eat it too -- her being implied to have had some kind of "monster mode" from the very beginning.
this is why i think ever anime out there should have some romance~love in it. most anime i watch is about a guy who save a girl who he just meet and say "he save her cause she is his friend"
I mean that an OK reason but alot of anime out there over use it too much, how about make it that he save her cause he love her.
Anyway overall pretty good episode, How does Inori have that power? I guess it from mana pass down to her? Is Inori being control by Mana or is it just her inner Evilself is taking over when she kill those guy and try to seduce shu in a creepy way (lucky he stop her). Question still ask why is Inori Void a sword? What will Shu do next?
this is it!!!!
I think this is a very short episode.... but this is where Guilty Crown shows that they are different with Code Geass
Funeral Parlor members still got their sense and have highest possibility as Shu's support
Nanba and his team got killed.... (omg... I'm so happy)... and Arisa is completely broken... never expect she will become like this... totally worth to be killed
Gai is totally badass.... and Inori is too lovely.... Finally after 18 episode, I can see her inner feeling. Once again, Shu is saved by Inori.... and hopefully this is really the last time...
I like Inori's virus form.... and of course I like Shu's eyes in the end of episode... both of them are just full of determination
please don't do something disappointing in future episode.... this is the climax and we totally don't want to watch a messed up show

i think the only reason Arisa is helping Gai is that she love him. She did have feeling for him back at the boat party. and i think she Jealous for Inori for getting all of the intention
~Yami~@ This just show us how much they are important to eachother. Shu eyes just tell you that he will take back Inori.(power or not power).

In doing so he will gain a new powers, or ending up saving inori but didn't succeed and got hurt in front of inori making her go crazy and killing everyone with her power.
Trudinh@ Pretty much or they go like in the op (virus chrysalis mode) and shu come back from there with the new arm.(thanks to inori).:heh:
One thing it's sure next ep will be really interesting .:D
ya unless the director decide to put a filler in, then everyone would be so disappointed. an episode that recap everything that happen so far, OHHHHH I WOULD BE SOO MAD.
Now I think that 22 episodes are too short. It needs at least 24 or 26 episodes.

Shu lead Undertaker? It is more like Undertaker beg Shu to lead them, and Shu will humbly refuses their offer. :D
Well for Shu the most important thing now is Take back Inori.
well of course, they love each other, inori even kiss shu to prove it. too bad he wasn't awake.
Damn it... GHQ just die already and Mana go away from Inori  I hope Shu and Inori can live on together after this :/
More DarylxTsugumi ! He won't be allowed to pilot again, right ? :uhoh:
This anime is just sad :[ Death flags all over the place !!!
well of course, they love each other, inori even kiss shu to prove it. too bad he wasn't awake.
True. But what I mean with that is. That because take back Inori its first priority I don't think he want to waste time. So ...sorry for you guys but shu don't had time for you:D
What happen to Gai? is the problem now. Did GHQ done something to him? The Virus turn him Evil? Mana is controlling him? (Last time we see gai was when he got stab with mana, then there a little scene of him being happy with mana)
SO basically Inori Save Shu by getting herself capture then Shu have to save Inori from being Capture which Inori want to get Captured to save Shu.

The show keeps getting funnier. The comedy aspect is so stong in this one.
*Mana takes over Inori and tries to give Shu a happy ending*
- A few moments later -
Mana to Inori inner dialogue "You are a monster, get away from Shu before you kill him"
:heh: :heh:
Something tells me Mana is trolling Inori hard and meant something like "You can be a monster *in bed* and kill Shu from over-doing it" :heh: which would make Mana the most awesome character in the show. Ah screw it, she is the most awesome character in the show! :p
http://i.imgur.com/UfiNH.jpg
Girl, you ain't wearing any :p :heh: :heh: :heh:
i dont think mana is controlling inori. i think she just influencing her. like at the end inori doing this to save shu because if mana say that she should come back to mana before she kill shu. and she dont want to kill shu.
inori is a fake that is created for mana. so inori is starting to gain emotion she can feel love, hatred, and angry. but those are still mana emotion.

As for Shu wound I wonder if Inori didn't use some of her crystal magic. After all she had that stun forehead tap of hers.
Regardless if she used a crystal to tend Shu's wound, it doesn't matter.
Shu was left with such wounds for -minutes-.
While anime tend to exaggerate blood and all, in Shu's case, it is surprisingly tame considering the extent of his wounds. Few minutes would be enough to leave him unconscious and there goes the state of shock, multiple organ failure and ultimately death.
It is unlikely that Shu could stop the hemorraghe by himself, to which he needs drastic medical care before reaching the circulatory shock state, within what... 5 minutes?
And as mentioned by other members: assuming he survive this, he would be affected by a massive infection considering the wounds and where he was.
it a war zone there alot of medical kit around. gosh and his hand got cut off not like his whole arm, it 1 hand. if u got 1 hand cut off just cover it up with a piece of cloth for it to stop bleeding and u will be fine for a while. and it an anime.
True but at least now Shu is determinate to do what he had to do.

It is especially because it is a war zone that it is extremely unlikely you can salvage medical kit, since that kind of supply would quite precious to any party.
Furthermore, the issue is that Shu was left alone, bleeding this way for minutes before Inori could flee with him. By the time Inori could do anything for him, Shu could have died anyway.
Having your forearm severed is a major wound, no matter how you look at that. If the brachial artery is affected (which is the case, considering where Shu was hit), you will bleed to death unless you have a drastic measure to stop the hemorraghe.

How could he pull so many voids at the same time & combine them into one?

Duh I know that to.
I even said before that he should be already dead from the blood loose or heavy infection, in one of my previous posts.
However I just said that because there must be some plothole magic that authors used to rationalize Shu survival. As far as it goes he should already be dying from lying there where Gai cut his arm off.

Gai combined king power with his void power.
His void gun already allowed him to forcefully take out other people voids. When he pulls out other people voids you see that Gai void mark aka triangle gun. Whats new is him building that lolz rocket from 3 voids and then commanding it to attack.

I really want to see Shu's Void.
I really want to see Shu's Void.
I don't think we will ever see it.
And if we do it will be some PukeRainbow stuff.
Like rebuilding the town with his void power, or separating Inori from Mana by his void power, or other plot magic void power.
Each and every void in GC was plot induced. Just look at last episode, Gai making some stupid rocket, then Gai showing up with Bow of Roots void which is just to good to capture Inori. Its like Jesus Gai knew that catching Inori will be hard so he used his Messiah power to find a particular void at particular time which the story required from him.

Hmm,maybe further research allowed them to upgrade the genome to modify the Void itself.
Through I think it didn't make much sense for three Voids to combine and become a relatively normal looking (no purple lines and stuff if you know what I mean) missile.
I think the new Void-combining mechanic needs some explanations.
Well lets not go over the top and apply the situation to medical facts. It just won't work given the anime's history.
What does bother me though, is the creation of a nonexistent secret society that supposedly surpasses the masons themselves. Who are these guys? There are quite a few controversial societies that they could've used as a source, instead of inventing they're own. The daat? never heard of them, if someone knows more about them, I would gladly appreciate the knowledge.
I Almost mistook Haruka for Arisa in the shower, lmao! And was like, she's sympathizing him? But Haruka doesn't have the right to either, since I don't know all the details concerning their motives just yet. So I won't go around shunning them, not yet in any matter. But what they've done is unforgivable. Also the void genome bearer is supposed to have some sort of unfortunate fate, from what she said in the shower.
So GHQ just stopped the UN's carpet bombing? Makes sense since GHQ is funded by the UN.
Okina was badass nevertheless, I'm displeased to see him go. How does Arisa do it? Her own grandfather came to kill her. I was expecting him to pronounce her dead to him after stopping his thrust mid-swing, wasn't expecting her to shoot him after all.
The Daryl/Tsugumi was obvious from as soon as she handed that caramel apple to him. I'm still worried about her future with him since he's a sociopath.
I wonder what use Shu can do now without the void genome, and his arm. Still, he had an intriguing stare at the end as if he knew how to fix everything.

The secret society is named after the Da'at in Kabbalah. The Japanese love to use Gnosticism, Judeo-Christian mysticism, and all types of western mythology in their science fiction because to Japanese it is sort of alien.
From Haruka's shower scene we can sort of infer that she isn't totally into Gravekeepers plan. It seems like they all have different plans.
- Keido wants the power of kings to kill off the human race, breed with the alien, and father a new race of super humans because he's a mad scientist with a huge ego.
- Gai wants the power of kings to win Inori and become Shu.
- GraveKeeper wants Shu to claim the power but sees he doesn't want it, so he's trying to find a replacement... so he's inclined to settle for douchebags like Keido and Gai. Both of these are ultra-selfish.
- Shu was born to be king but he never wanted to be king. He just wanted friends, to live like a mortal.
- Haruka understands that Shu doesn't want to be king but hopes he changes his mind.
Gai and Shu will have their Itachi/Sasuke fight. Shu gets super power out of nowhere.
GraveKeeper gets amused. Shu and GraveKeeper fight it out because Shu doesn't want to play by GraveKeeper's rules. GraveKeeper will be into it because this is the Shu he wanted to see.
Then again... GraveKeeper may just play the role of the "Watcher" and leave when Shu beats Gai.
Shu best Anime Character, I ever see so far.

LOL how many of you guys think that this will take place in school or in an area where there's lots of students?
Because this fight will be boring if they're using the same voids over and over again....
Granted lots of students will die but at this point I could care less. They backstabbed a guy they forced into a role he didn't want in the first place for a guy who treats them like bullets.

Thing is Gai is in better position because he can see voids.
If Shu and Gai fought while there was let say 100 people around them, then unless Shu learn how to see people voids he already lost.
Gai and his deus ex machina allows him to predict and use any void to his advantage.
Unless Shu will activate Plot Armor V2.0 and beat Gai.

All the more interesting. Gai will fight with precision while Shu will rely on the "hearts" of the students and hope that whatever he picks will suffice. If he grabs a refrigerator then he'll combine it with the vase void and maybe a cup and turn it into some super fridge and chuck it at Gai.

Despite how this show fiddles around from week to week, the comments and posts consistently remain entertaining. This one was one of many cookie-worthy posts. Thanks. :D
shu learn his lesson at using other people void if they dont want him too. remember in episode 17 when the student betray him and they were saying "who allow u to peak into our heart"
I dont think he will be using other people void anymore unless they allow him.
Trudinh@ Agree. That's why i thik he will use only Inori void.
who care, inori void is the best. I remember reading something on a forum from a different site, that say the more connected shu is to the person he using the void the stronger the void. wonder if it true?
I really want to see Shu's Void.
I'm guessing it's going to be that new arm he's going to get. Either that or it will be something revealed right at the end and serve as one major DeM.

The only issue is that Shu, so far, is not into randomly killing students. If he starts to use random voids and attacks Gai with his void selections, a lot of the voids will be destroyed, hence killing a lot of the students.
Maybe Shu's new powers will be a void canceling system. At least he can protect people from Gai that way.
this is pretty much the ending, either they show his void in the next few episode or they dont show it at all.
when Shu save Inori is when the anime End.
Trudinh@ I don't think so. In the op inori ad a new cloth so...I think after he save her there is at least one more enemy.

i agree, they should survive and raise a family and have a boy.
Shu some how die later on while the child is still young.
Boy grow up have the same power as his dad shu.
As he grow up his power become stronger and controllable.
Bad guys want his Power, try to capture him.
Inori the mother protect him and eventually die.
the boy run away while being chase.
Meet a girl, the Girl hide him from the bad guy, let him stay at her home.
The girl got capture.
he feel bad for involving her.
He decide to stop running and start fighting back.
through out the story, He fall in love with the girl, Uncover his dad shu past. and figure out how to control his power.

Ok i bet you a Dimes that Daryl will not survive, he hated Gai, remember in episode 17 or was it 18, he say something like, i hated him, i will not take command from him.

Well, if nothing else, Guilty Crown gets the Vince McMahon seal of approval.
"Anything can happen in Guilty Crown!"
Indeed, anything really can happen. :heh:
That can be a lot of fun if you don't think deeply about it, I guess.
The show does get massive style points, and I admit that the kid in me finds it tremendously entertaining.
Also, it's good to see Inori showing some actual personality range in this episode. As "lolwut" as her "battle form" (?) might be, I'll give the anime some credit here: At least it lightly foreshadowed it. Perhaps not enough, but I wasn't as stunned by it as some were.
No, what's the most stunning thing about this anime is the shifting allegiances, and the subgroups within subgroups within subgroups... Oh, and some bizarre version of the Illuminati. This show has more backstabs and double-crosses than a full season of Survivor. :heh:
Ah well, "Sir Gai" makes a good villain, and it looks like Shu might be rounding back into shape again. The visuals and action scenes are truly great.
9/10 for this episode.
@Soji i like her cloth lately, it dosnt seen to be showing too much, her last cloths seen to has alot of (((holes))) in it , kinda showing too much. i dont mind it but i just think that in the middle of battle, that isnt what she should be wearing.
Trudinh@ I agree with you here. It's just seem to be her last one like the one we see shu had in this ep.

not a fan of gundam. but why? There's this one character that always seems to survive in every battle he gets himself into despite all odds. In the end of the series, after all the shit has died down, he goes and marries his love.
Daryl's gonna be that guy. :P
@Soji when i watch anime, i like to see the girl cover up most of the time and see that girl as a cute innocent one rather then dress sluty. if i want to see girl dress sluty i could just go google search hentai.

Well i just hope everyone survive and have an happy ending.
But after Hare die i just lost most of my hope and think during the final battle lot of people going to die and it going to be sad. :(

It is not the first time, but I hope it is the damn last time: please keep comparison and spoilers from other series to the strict minimum. If you -really- have to illustrate your point with mention of another series, at least use spoiler tags with a proper label.
The current discussion has been considered completely offtopic and extremely spoilerish, thus entierely removed as result.
Watch back the ep again man does new Gai piss me off the more i see him .
Still i don't see him as the last boss for Shu .

There's like 4 eps left? So unless they off gai ASAP he is the last boss. Thing is will Keido, eybrow and all other characters get into collateral damage of Shu vs Gai or not.
I was happy that he die in ep 12, maybe cause it was kinda like a love triangle with him around. but Here he is, ALIVE. why dont he just die and why dies GHQ revive him what is their reason for reviving him.

The thing is i don't see how the other guy with Voids powers could be collateral damage .
He was in control most of the series so far still they could kill him off before the Shu vs Gai fight i guess .

Inori transformation may be a shocker, but her having superpowers was even shown in Ep 1 when she was escaping GHQ. No normal human would survive what she did, and do what she did. Then trough the story you could see her using some super powers here and there.
The secret society is named after the Da'at in Kabbalah. The Japanese love to use Gnosticism, Judeo-Christian mysticism, and all types of western mythology in their science fiction because to Japanese it is sort of alien
Hmmm, it appears as if they cluster fucked the show with the various christian/Hindo interpretations of the Kabbalah/Shaktha theology. I'm having trouble following the analogy they're attempting to create, although there's some that I could interpret myself.
All that I could extract is that Mana fits the description of "Malkuth", and that her mate could be considered "Tifereth", or "Kether". It is implied that Eve was Malkuth's creation, and Adam Tifereth's. Kether, son of god is referred to as "crown". Which leads to coincide with the title. But I'm skeptical as to whether or not mana's groom should be Kether. Since the series seems to have taken a twist, and I'm wondering who will become the "crown"? Or if that is in any way related to the situation.
I'm wondering whether or not the writers will manage to clear some of the religious speculation they've aroused, since I'm dying trying to clear it myself.

I doubt that there is any real depth to their use of stuff from Kabbalah. As,echalord said, they use it because it alien to the Japanese, though it's hardly something only the Japanese do.

hey guys. I found an interesting comment:
I’m confused about the part near the end of the first half. After Arisa killed her grandfather, didn’t most of the guards on her grandfather’s side remain that would have easily finished off Arisa?
so, is there still no problem with this episode :twitch:

In general, you probably will not kill off the next head of the family, or potential person in line. Arisa is probably head of the household now, which technically means that she is their employer.
Besides, it was a dispute within the family, which means that they did not have the right to interfere.

^ kind of like that.
my wish would be for the series to end with shoe being wrong/messing up the ending. like gai and co are going to eliminate mana, who still resides in inori. but since shoe fell for her, he'll do whatever it takes and actually succeeds... and then he gets screwed over by inori/mana.
bear in mind, gai did sacrifice himself to stop mana. but if he's being controlled, then I have lost all my respect for the guy.
who mugi, and i think there a high chance that inori would survive also the chance of shu sacrificing for inori is very high. or gai second sacrifice ^^ that would be great.
I know there is much hate toward shu...but to say that he is wrong when everyone just screaw with him>_>
ANd Trudinh if Shu die and Inori survive not make more sense for her...come on Shu is the only one she had without him what she had .nothing the same would be for Shu. That's why I hope ..or both survive or both die together .
everyone force him to become the leader which he doesn't want to be and in the end everyone hate him for it.

Well it doesn't matter anymore, you guys either hate Shu or not, after all the crap went on. I never did hate Shu, in fact, I felt sorry for the guy for the catastrophe he was about to face ever since he met Inori and obtained the Void Genome. Everyone seems to like kicking around the MC a lot, especially when someone put him in a position he didn't want and wasn't ready for. He tries, then he gets his a** kicked and handed back to him and then some. The guy was a wreck from the start. There's so much more that happen previous before all that. And there's still plenty that hasn't been explained...
I'm gonna be real glad when this end because after this, F**K this anime man....It better either at least show something decent..of course I'm just one guy with an opinion over the anime, some people like it, some people don't...never bother me. I did say I am going to watch this to the end, and I will.

I'm half expecting Gai to actually pull the magic bullet out from his ass as the ultimate ass pull of all time.
The game ultimately hinges on whether Shuu does it before him.
I doubt that there is any real depth to their use of stuff from Kabbalah. As,echalord said, they use it because it alien to the Japanese, though it's hardly something only the Japanese do.
Not necessarily, although it seems to have taken a particular interest in it. There are some undeniable similarities in terms of character inspiration. Although most is made up, or consists of different religious interpretation/mythology, so it doesn't entirely rely on a single viewpoint. Which makes finding links all the harder.
As,echalord said, they use it because it alien to the Japanese, though it's hardly something only the Japanese do.
Pretty much everything you watch is inspired from mythology. Characters and plot alike, whether it'd be Foreign, native, or Anime. Sometimes they take a step too far, and sometimes they simply rip character names/occured events.
But I don't see this going anywhere that'll clear my doubts. I think they're over exaggerating the whole thing as well.
Noooo~ Not Scythe Girl. Damn you Gai, damn you. Ah well. At least those three traitors got what they deserved.
It took up to this episode to finally realize by myself that the writers are splattering the story into all sorts of directions that makes it non-sensical. Gosh! am I that dense?
Seriously, after about five months of reading other peoples' posts complaining what the studio is doing with the story tearing it apart with those characters that are doing not a damn thing to create a consistent flow within the plot, I finally understand you all out there why you're so angry with Guilty Crown having reached those crossroads.
Take this episode, for example. Everything has stayed haywire for more than three episodes.
Gai's infamous Missile Void:
- The asspull or overkill was not Gai literally pulling out that missile from nowhere, but that he needed to extract just three students' Voids to pull it out. Are the writers telling us that this new Gai has been so bodily and genetically-enhanced, that he was resurrected with Void powers to the HAXX-level just for the sake of serving the Daath agenda?
Crazy, if that is the case he should have been resurrected as a God and going rampage against Daath and the whole of Earth.
- The only good news to that Void Missile is that Gai at least needed Voids to pull that thing out, because had he just needed one and only one Void to create the Missile, then either I wouldn't have believed it or would be pushing suspension of disbelief beyond the limits.
Arisa's unhealthy and one-sided infatuation for Gai:
- Arisa sold her body the previous episode to cling for her life. It became tough for her losing credibility to keep the moral stable for the students at the start of the school arc, but her losing her position as Student Council President to Shuu because the students wanted it, then I cannot consider it a decisive factor to warrant emotional trauma.
In the following episodes after that, there are subtle hints on Arisa still lingering for losing face as authority.
The big shocker comes after Hare's death with Shu becoming a tyrant, and later witnessing that having your Void to break leads to instant death. She explodes in uncontrollable fear, which at that point is understanding. Moreso, when she's confronted face-to-face with Inori, the latter having displayed subtle symptoms that she's undergoing through Mana Mode, and almost the former gets killed having only the open palm of her right-hand impaled by Inori.
At that point, I do understand Arisa's situation; she's fearful, alone, and cornered. The zenith of that scenario reaches its climax when Arisa's get busted by one of Shu's SS boys, the former contacting over the phone probably the cronies from G.H.Q. Realizing she has no way out for her to keep herself alive, Arisa relunctantly and with fear in her tears and about to break willingly offers her body to the lackey, as a last resort to keep herself alive.
However, by doing such kind of "favors", she gains a venue to spread the truth about the Voids to the rest of the students and begins to build her information freeway to create the cause for rebellion against Shu with all students conceding to her plan.
At that point, Arisa's betrayal and shift is understandable and justifiable.
Then, in this episode Gai came back and put the entire U.N. in its place. The Daath organization finally rises from the shadows in public and announce them taking control. But, Gai coming back literally into Arisa's life sinks the girl from honest infatuation to insane obsession given that Arisa partially broke by having to stain herself.
My point with Arisa is that since she lost her purity and got consumed by the disgusting world of adults, then the writers made her to shift her allegiance and now playing for the real enemy, and all to be useful for Gai and be by his side, although her Grandfather warned her that (new) Gai only prioritizes his own goals, and to (the new) Gai she's just another disposable pawn.
Check those pure girls, for example, Ayase and Tsugumi stayed with their former comrades of Funeral Parlor to escape and survive; that's one scenario.
The other scenario were that the other pure girls, like the female students, either got gunned down by the troops or got killed with their Voids breaking along with the male students.
Basically, as I see it, this is sort of an anti-adult trope prevalent in anime.
It tell us that most of adulthood and adults are power-hungry, excel in debauchery and wasteful behavior, are rotten, loving to stain and consume innocence.
If the youngster gets stained by one those disgusting, enemy adults, then chances are highly likely that youngster would end up becoming a pawn serving the enemy side, but for a reason to do so.
Now, if you ask me, the only thing awesome Bad-Ass and worth watching to see in this episode was Inori...
powering-up to SAS level 1 and tearing her way through all those Endlaves before getting sniped by Silver Gai.
SAS stands for - Super Apocalyptic Symptomatic.
Think of her state like a tribute of sorts to the Super Saiyan state of DBZ.

Combining two Voids was enough to create a anti-orbital weapon laser. Shu destroy two Leucocytes in a single shot. One of the Void combined was Inori's though. Gai combined two A rank Voids and a third Void that I don't know the rank of to create a far, far less powerful missile.

I guess it is a difference in culture. You are to protect the family, but when family disputes, you do not interfere. It is very much that way in powerful, traditional families and the yakuza.

Daryl isn't really in that much danger most of the time. While Endlaves have a form of damage feedback, it is done by a remote link that can be cut off. If you have someone competent on the Bailout button, you can avoid serious damage even in bad situations.
what happen if he not in an Endlaves? he go foot on with a gun.

Ok. Finally they gave us a proper episode with Inori. I really liked it and the transformation/fight was amazing. :)
What I didn't like was how fast they got rid of the two traitor guys, I would have preferred something more impressive. The same for the scythe girl. Damn, give her more credit!!
I'm waiting for Souta, but I can see from here that they will give us such a drama redemption-forgiveness-we-will-be-friends-forevah sh*t.
And Kudos for the grandpa, I said while watching, what the h** is he doing? :heh: But men, this is guilty crown, you have to fully embrace your suspension of disbelief :heh:

I still defend Arisa's actions from last week, but this week she definitely is on a new low for me. How could she shoot the one person that truly cared for her, and then act as if it never happened?! Really? REALLY?!
As for Inori, did anyone else get the feeling that she pretty much told Mana to show it? Her level of bad-ass just skyrocketed!

She shot him because he tried to kill her. She wasn't exactly unaffected by it. You could hear it in her tone of voice when she said "Grandfather" after she shot him and how she was angry at the person who said she did a good job for killing her grandfather.
^ Yes but the fact that her Grandfather held back at the last moment was, I think, an attempt at showing us that if Arisa really loved him then she wouldn't have shot. It's stupid, I know, but there you go....

Yes, he did try to kill her. Not because of what she did to Shu, but because she dishonored him by being so addicted to Gai, and the position she THOUGHT she was going to get. His plan was simply for her to escape and return home. And after shooting him, she was pretty much like "Oh grandpa...MY MAN AWAITS!!! Teehee!" That's the way it made me feel anyway.

so everyone in this forum think shu going to get a new arm ( power )? because of the OP video show he have a new arm.
what happen if shu attack gai, cut off his hand some how and get his power back.

Was already pointed out many times, go to spoiler section.
For Arisa and grandfather fight, he held back (stopped the sword otherwise Gai would need to sew her back into 1 piece), she on the other hand didn't, tells you all about what a human being she is.
The idea that you can judge someone on such single acts of emotion is ridiculous if you ask me. Her grandfather holding back was somewhat commendable (though his reasons for attacking in the first place...) but should never be used as a standard. Now I'm sure that there are plenty of us with enough faith in our grandfathers that we can witness them kill two people in cold blood and then run towards us with a sword with a clear intent on killing us, that we'd give them the benefit of the doubt and trust they'll hold back at the last second, but I don't think it's reasonable to expect the same for everyone. I am therefore, not exactly impressed with the Guilty Crown writers for trying to make us think it is but then again this is the same group of people that think a good way of treating PTSD is by pointing a gun at them...
What I find most troubling though is that the show is apparently saying you can compare the two actions when you can't. Her grandfather made a conscious decision to attack which he could consciously reconsider. Arisa couldn't do anything of the sort. She didn't make any conscious decision to shoot her grandfather that she could've reconsidered. She just acted in self defence without the benefit of being able to think it through the same way her grandfather could.

Just like she made all her previous conscious decisions, like spreading her legs, betraying her *friends*, becoming some low level grunt in shady organization and all of that for a Messiah who she supposedly love.
Frankly I don't care about her as she has about 95% of being dead before the series end, but still ...
Just like she made all her previous conscious decisions, like spreading her legs, betraying her *friends*, becoming some low level grunt in shady organization and all of that for a Messiah who she supposedly love.
Just like? Does that mean you think she made a conscious decision to kill her grandfather? Why so?
In any case all of those are besides the point. After all you did say that Arisa shooting her grandfather "tells you all about what a human being she is".
Besides you already know my position on her "spreading her legs" and "betraying her friends", so I don't think there's any need for me to bring those up again, especially when they happened last episode and this thread is supposed to be about this episode.
The only thing I can really blame Arisa for is aligning herself to an organisation of mass murderers all because Gai is their leader and frankly I don't understand why. Her blind love of Gai to the point that she'd be willing to work with people she knows are mass murderers, strikes me as so exaggerated it's OOC. So all the attempts the writers have come up with to make Arisa look as horrible as possible strike me as contrived and forced which is why I can't really find it in myself to hate her. (After all, you can't really hate a character when all the attempts to make you hate the character fall flat. The devices used simply doesn't have the desired effect).
But obviously that's not the case for everyone. Considering the amount of hate you have towards Arisa, I'm guessing you think her actions have been very convincing and not a result of bad wriitng. Does that mean you think her blind love of Gai is believable and not sudden?

First lets clarify one thing, I don't hate Arisa, to be frank I was sad for her when she gave up her purity. For now I'm more neutral than hateful towards her. ( I just can't get myself into hating someone I don't care about, she can die or she don't need to its not like her existence matter)
However I cannot miss one point. We can have and probably do have a different opinions.
For me Arisa was infatuated with Gai since her waking up on the ship after Missile Ship Episode. So her following Gai every footstep and taking his every word as the words of God wasn't a surprise.
That means all Arisa decisions in second season was more or less her obvious choices (besides her getting shafted from president position).
In my view She did spread her legs and she did betray Shu because Gai asked her to (indirectly). Maybe not in person but I'm sure GHQ brought him into the equation.
Taking Arisa contacts with "organisation of mass murderers" as you call them, and following with their orders, already makes her conscious and responsible for all of her actions.
That's why in my opinion she clearly did what she did because she was swayed/persuaded by GHQ/Gai, it wasn't some kind of self preservation or some pitiful revenge. It was all to make her one and only master Gai happy.
In this episode you can see how pissed she is, that even thought she screwed with some lowlife and betrayed people who helped her, Gai still doesn't give a heck about her and only cares about obtaining Inori.
She thought that after all her hijinks her prince Gai would ride on white horse and take her to his tower, to live happily together. I get that opinion after her not so surprised face when Gai showed up, and her "WTF why you no love me" face after Gai put her down to the place she belongs.

I thought that Arisa got a call from Gai/GHQ after Inori/Mana slit her wrist. If so then wasn't she sane until then? She couldn't rely on her grandfather for support so she was relieved after Gai called her, and in the emotional state of mind that she was in, she mistook him for her saviour. Maybe she would of stayed neutral if Inori hadn't overreacted.

I can see Arisa falling hard for Gai. I think some Guilty Crown first half episodes hinted very heavily at that too.
And I think that when someone falls hard for another person that can cloud moral judgement. Think of the Stockholm Syndrome, where a girl may fall in love with her own kidnapper, who of course is in the process of doing something illegal and shady and potentially very harmful.
I honestly find Arisa to be a pretty well-written character. At least by GC's standards. :heh:
Also, I don't exactly hate her. I think any misfortune that falls upon her will be of a poetic Greek Tragedy nature where her own critical flaws proved to be her undoing.
Arisa's deep emotional weakness and insecurity has truly lead her into making some bad choices, imo.

Like Medea's? or Circe's? or that unnamed nymph in the Odyssey?
And while I fail to see which tragedy we can compare this to, I would gladly see her undoing. Betraying Shu was one thing. But killing your own grandfather?

or Circe's?
Mildly similar to Circe, yeah.
But it's more the general idea of being undone by a chief character flaw that you just never get over. With Arisa it's her emotional weakness and insecurity causing her to chase after strength in other people (men, mostly) instead of taking the necessary steps for her to become stronger herself and hence take the stands that she probably should have taken.

Probably the most fitting end for Arisa would be for her to die protecting Sir Gai from Shu or Inori... and then for Sir Gai to not lament over her at all. It would be sad, but pretty fitting.
I have this gut feeling that Arisa isn't going to survive the entire anime.

the most fitting end for arisa would actually be to die from Gai's own actions. that would be the proper greek tragedy

And she'll be doing me a favor.
Honestly, I don't HATE Arisa, but I never liked her to begin with. I don't like any of these characters at all. :heh:

Man this show just keeps getting me down.
The characters finally get a bit of a break then something always rears it's head and fucks them over.
It is nice to see a shift in Inori's behavior and her devotion to Shu is nice.
But I'll say this now since I pretty much binged all eighteen episodes yesterday...
HARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
God dammit. Give me back my heart!

yup! Gai should use Arisa's void to defend against another missiles or nuclear weapons from United Nations... that way, her void will be shattered... :frustrated:
well, I never expect she will be like this from beginning...
regarding the preview, honestly I prefer if Shu and Inori go together to kick Gai's ass... It's another boring plot if Inori was hostaged AGAIN and Shu will gather Funeral Parlor's members to help him again... :)

Monomyth time, since it makes me feel special.
I think and hope, for time's sake, this was our Apotheosis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monomyth#Apotheosis). Some time did pass for the characters and Shu did recover. I'm not sure how he didn't die of blood loss, but we'll say Inori cauterized his wound at some point, hah.
I think we'll skip the Ultimate Boon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monomyth#The_Ultimate_Boon) and Refusal of the Return (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monomyth#Refusal_of_the_Return) since we don't have enough time and it wouldn't be plausible with Inori captured and we kind of had one in the first season.

Naah that wouldn't be good. She would die feeling happy that she was useful in protecting Gai and all that hijinks.
She should die a worthless death to no one benefit. Like Gai fighting Shu, Arisa standing somewhere on the side, then something blows up and she dies, while Gai doesn't even giving 1 fu$k about her. That is if authors wanted to make her suffer, otherwise it will be some retarded sacrifice death to save her prince charming, which will make her feel fulfilled.
After watching this episode, I ask to myself: Why am I still watching this? Why am I dropping GC every week? :heh:
I need to recover my right arm in order to get Inori back but where can I find it?
He will grow a crystal arm, or something similar as seen in OP. :uhoh:

I have a feeling that it's going to be like what you said... :uhoh:
It's time we save Aerith from Gai 2.0 Sephiroth, Shu.

If your grandfather would go to such lengths in the first place to hunt you down and kill you for merely displeasing him then i can see why their relationship is so fragile to begin with.
Heck back at ep 4? Arisa already expressed displeasure about being the next head of the family.
If your family is practically a minefield of death for the rebellious and free spirited at hand and the place you have gotten dragged into turns out to be a death zone for the populace abandoned by society
and to top it all off the people who are trying to fight for you and everyones safety are idiots who have left several yanderes run loose leading to the fatal misunderstanding that the Rebel HQ is run by nazi extremists, eh it's not bad right? At least we found out that this horrible virus has some fantastic side benefits, we only need to keep those vaccines in check! Only to then find out that the very system they are using to vie for your freedom can permanently kill you at the slightest malfunction.
I'm not trying to defend Arisa but her situation was too volatile for her liking, especially when Shuu's short sightedness cut off her escape route, at best she should have taken the vaccines and ran to an abandoned shelter and called her grandfathers guards for help.
Sadly even the fucking guard that came to rescue her was too busy trying to prove his shitty self worth than taking the woman and getting the fuck out of there.
arisa, so it seen 80% of the people hated her and 20% of the people feel pitty for her.

Hey like everyone said, the grandfather is very samurai, and samurai is supposed to be very honorable. They will even perform harakiri(self-suicide) if their guests under their care displeased with the hospitality, so what do you think will happen when the next heir has defected from the family and aligned with the enemy? What Arisa's grandfather did was act according to the samurai code and family honour, and as he stopped at the last moment clearly he loves Arisa. Can't said the same thing about Arisa...
Well actually this is what really bothered me about Arisa's situation. I get that she's obsessed with Gai, but then she's supposed to be a coward and scared for her life (the main reason she did the coup d'etat) so why she didn't just go back home to her grandfather? What's the point joining Gai's army and further endangering her life when the rest of students already escaped and reunited with their family? And it isn't Japan is in any peril danger with that leukocytes hanging around, might as well stayed at home and watched Gai on tv.
So I guess I kind of understand why Arisa somehow stayed with Gai, but I really can't accept it as a whole. I guess to me the previous Arisa will just flee and go home. Even Yahiro and Kanon did that and didn't bother anymore with Shu and others when they were able to escape.

You know when bad shit happens on a worldwide scale. People tend to remember the main "villain" who caused such crap to happen. However, their lackeys are usually remembered as well and sometimes their children and children children are scorned because of what their ancestors did. If you were Arisa's grandfather would you want your family linked to the organization that basically tried to destroy the damn world as we know it. Keep in mind the eastern way of thinking not western. I wont say what he tried to do was right but i can understand it. He tried to remove the shame he felt that had been or will be cast on his family name, but even in the end he could not bring himself to give the final blow. The only reason Arisa got the shot off was because he stopped. That scene showed that even though it looked like honor was more important than anything to him it was not, the love for grandchild was still stronger than reclaiming his sense of honor.
In my opinion being killed at the hands of her grandfather would have been a lot less painless than what shes going to go through in the future. She is going to wish her grandfathers blade would have finished the job.
I didn't see anyone suggesting that maybe what Arisa's grandfather planned on doing all along was what actually happened - namely, die honorably (in his mind). His look, when he was shot by her, was quite characteristic, to me...
Oh, well.

I am hoping his death sparks something inside her. I bet Gai would need to betray her to light the fuse but you know what I mean.

I think he went there fully intending to give her an honorable death but when it came time to strike he could not do it, because of his love for her. Hence why he said "I have grown weak". This would suggest he allowed his emotional attachment to persuade him from doing what he felt he must.
