Now that the School Rumble sub-forum is retired, this thread will serve as a general thread for all discussion related to the School Rumble franchise, including the anime, manga, and all other pertinent news and information.

To all loyal fans of SR this is probably the best song to part with the old anime now on the retired section.

School Rumble 4EVER!!!

I'm gonna bookmark this page now. I don't care, even if we talk about JK and his other mangas, I want to do it here, with fellow SR fans. Sad that it's retired, but it is what it is. More bittersweet memories. Here's hoping we get something in the future.

I've been watching Community, and I'd be so down with a continuation of SR in like college or something. Some similar setting to Community, which is awesome in it's own right.

Lastly, of course: School Rumble Forever!

Totally agreed man.

For SR continuation. Iam leaning towards new protagonist and characters, if JK is not gonna reboot it nor continue it to college like K-on.

I don't think I could watch a "School Rumble" with different characters. I can't even imagine it. No Harima?!

Man I miss this show...

Harima = School Rumble period.

Heck his the 2nd main character, yet his the one that brought in the bacon and laughs and misadventures in SR.

Unless JK can make an equally or greater male character like Harima. Though as far as NNA and IH, nothing yet close to Harima's epicness.

Hell that's why Iam using "kenjiharima" as my username Harima is really an unforgetable character.

School Rumble really was a great series. Loved the anime and enjoyed following the manga...until that ending.

Still some great characters and Harima really made the series something special.

Yup... I'll always be rooting for Harima and Tenma.

In other news, I recorded myself playing the piano song that plays during the scene where Harima is dressed as a police officer, crying, running away from Tenma lol

So many SR songs are memorable.

Thanks, Solafighter and Sphire. I don't think that song had a piano version, but there are plenty of SR songs that can be played on piano. Maybe I'll learn a few more, such as Yakumo's theme.

edit: Turns out, there is a piano version of the Kaze Ni Nosete song.

I still hope in a season 3...
Meanwhile there's a petition to complete ( www.petitionspot.com/petitions/sr3 )
School Rumble Forever :'(

Solafighter
2012-05-07, 11:03
A petition wont do anything, even with the wanted 10.000 signatures. You cant 'force' JK to continue his work. Also, to see only 1200 in that time period shows also, that most of the fans dont care anymore. If you think, that JK did an awsome work on the whole SR thing, just let it go its way. I also wish, there would come a third season, but i wonder, if its realy a good idea.

c_ronaldo975
2012-05-07, 11:55
First, the petition isn't for "force" JK...The petition is for the anime maker of SR(Studio Comet) to do the third season. JK has did his work, SR manga is completed, but the season 3 of the anime has got only 2 oav.
Second, the signs are 1200 because the fans don't know that there is a petition!!! The fans are only sad for the not making of third semester (like me).
Third, with 10000 signs maybe we can make our voice herd, if the 10000 won't do anything...i will have no regrets.
Hope dies last but is the first that leaves you (This is your case , i think)

If they would make a third season, they need JK for that. If JK refuses to make a third season, they wont/cant do it. Thats how this business works.

Thats why JK might get some trouble, getting back into SR. It was brilliant the way, it was. If he would change parameters, it could change the whole series. Seeing it from a neutral point, he would be better, creating something brand new, even more awsome. But he is also not going younger and there are many other artists, who bring up great stuff.

The problem here is can he create a new character that is as awesome of Harima? Because he's 2 manga's and protagonist there is not really that as awesome as Harima.

School Rumble Ver.2

new characters. new male lead similar to harima, old SR characters make omake appearances and a bit more over the top with it's "moments". Really hard to replace Harima, Eri, Yakumo and the other cast to memorable.

Also I think Jin Kobayashi doesn't like drawing ecchi that much as seen in most of his artwork he likes drawing with old school style, casual dresses and school uniform.

Kondrath
2012-07-08, 18:50
Yeah... Man, I'd love for him to go back to SR. I think I'm gonna watch some episodes tonight. Even though I've seen them all so many times, they still lighten the mood and remind me of good times, and in some cases Harima's determination helps me get back on track.

I like that he doesn't do ecchi stuff. That doesn't suite School Rumble anyway. College Rumble... Work Rumble, whatever! Bring it back!

Seriously I think it will be hard for Jin Kobayashi to make another SR as epic as the first one(minus the pie ending).

Probably because he IS Harima....Just look at the jacket. Just give him sunglasses and brush up his hair

Well he did say that Harima was part him and some taken from his friends way back and he just makes the story as it flows.

And at least some people remember School Rumble: http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2012/07/22-1/japanese-fans-pick-the-most-fascinating-anime

Albeit only 42 out of close to 6000 people, haha. Given how these things are swayed by recent and/or very popular shows, it's kinda nice.

I got to thinking actually, could something like Kickstarter work for School Rumble? In producing an actual 3rd season that is.

Yeah, he liked it but was shocked that it became so serious. He only saw seasons 1, 2, and then went straight to the Season 3 OVAs. I had to give a horribly paraphrased summary of the manga.

And that's cool that SR made that list. If Kickstarted happened for School Rumble, they could have my entire life savings lol.

-Introduction-
Hey, I'm new to this subforum, nice to meet you~

-How I learnt of SR-
Hm, someone on ANN forums introduced me to this series when I said I was looking for a series with twin-tailed tsunderes. I approached this series with some skepticism being prepared to see all, if not most of the tricks, since I had watched several of such series before watching SR, such as Chobits, Chuunibyou Demo Koi Ga Shitai!, Mayo Chiki, Pet Girl Of Sakura Hall (Sakurasou No Pet Na Kanojo) and finally Toradora! Since all of them are Rom-Com's, I thought I had seen everything, from complex relationships (Mayo Chiki) to slightly-crazed tsunderes (Taiga, in my opinion, acts like one).

Boy, was I wrong.

The last time I felt this immersed in a particular series, it...no, there wasn't anytime like that. Only one other thing came close, that being Katawa Shoujo, a Visual Novel that I could identify with and ended up getting the feels for well over a few months based on a relatively simple but well-written script.

-Review of SR-
SR, on the other hand, makes these characters come alive, and like many posters here, I really wish I had these sort of friends in real life. Everyone in the class has a different back story that wants to make me learn more about them, and observe them interacting with each other while having fun together.

I've watched K-ON, and I believe SR is much deeper in terms of character development as well as plot. Both are slice-of-life comedies, both have moe girls and both have the usual 4 or 5 characters, but K-ON lacks the romance aspect which provides a lot of character growth (or comedic fodder) for the series to continue.

K-ON is funny in its own right, but the series at best only provides slight giggles and the rare loud laughter from me. SR succeeds both as a comedy and a romance by making me laugh at least two out of three times in each episode (Delusions with Onigiri where Harima was eating Eri-chan's and Tenma-chan's lethal cooking was pure awesome), as well as making me want the characters to end up in a relationship, simply because they have the heart to keep trying after failing, and their friends are also very supportive to pick them up when they're all shattered. That's friends that we'd all like to have, which helps us to connect with the series, and think, what if, we did have these sort of friends or colleagues?

Btw for shipping purposes, I'm a Flagship (ErixHarima) fan. I'm simply biased towards the twin-tailed 'stupid but cute' Ojou-sama that 'jinxes Harima every time she's around him and yet ends up in really awkward situations that she doesn't mind (blush)', because I'd like to see him end up with her :P. Still, I'm okay with him ending up with Yakumo, because she does care for Harima in her own way, but with Tenma, I think she'll be happier with Karasuma than Harima :D

I wish the other characters could have been more deeply developed though, Hanai deserves to have his story told, and I can imagine him getting into more problems when he tries to attract Yakumo's attention. Elsewhere, the juniors didn't really interest me much, but 2C's 'Covert Pervert' group consisting of the other guys should also be developed further (perhaps with their failed attempts causing other problems with the group of 4 girls and Harima/Hanai, leading to them learning a lesson or two). 2D's characters also interested me, especially the two bosses 'Harry MacKenzie and the Tougou guy'. Both of them seem good rivals to the two 'idiots' of 2C, and I would like to see them work together for once ^^

-Epilogue-
However, I accept that I'm late to the party. SR ended many years back, and there's pretty much no chance of the manga-ka JR going back to his old works to continue the series again. SRZ was a nice attempt to try and provide some ending for the story, but frankly speaking, SR deserves a better ending than no ending.
Even Toradora! tied up a loose romantic end with one of the main characters going to study in the same country as the one he liked after everyone had graduated. That's an ending. At least, we can say, yea, good luck to him, hopefully he'll end up with that girl.
But given how unlikely it is that SR will ever be revived, I chose to find solace in googling for forums that discussed SR. Sadly the wannabefansubs forum for SR had closed down (really...late to the party), but this, it was still open! Thus I came here :D

-Random thoughts-

I don't think there's much more to say now I guess, although...the WarGames early in S2E2 and S2E3, that was the moment I realized SR is beyond any anime I had seen so far. To parody a fighting scene from other animes is easy enough, but to juxtapose the gruesome carnage... the feelings of hurt when couples turned on each other... with the soft singing and the band practicing.

That, was class.

Admittedly that scene had its flaws, with insufficient information of each person preventing us from understanding the actual situation as it developed, and main characters only popping up towards the end of the fight. Loose threads, such as how the butler and Itoko squared off, or how the fight went with them inside it, were not resolved.

But that scene had other things going for it that I didn't expect, with a third, and then fourth, party joining the fight. The Band Faction had a legitimate reason, and their deaths were felt heavily, although the Sumo Swimsuit Faction was hilarious. The heroic sacrifice of Misawa to push the barricades forward so that the Cafe Faction could gain ground was memorable, the final conversation between Tenma and Karasuma was touching, and the death scene of Harima, coupled with 'Iron Chef' music to contrast Tenma's sadness over the death of Karasuma (and subsequent sucide), was strangely funny, and yet, sad.

All of these makes for an anime that will rank as one of the best animes I've been privileged to see. I've read half of the manga from the point that the last OVA ended, and I intend to read the whole front parts because, such a gem rarely comes by.

I wouldn't categorise K-On with romance content. K-On is focused just on the girls and the music. The only reason, I watched K-On is because of Ritsu. ;)

Don't call Eri-chan stupid. She is one of the rare girls, who accept their feelings. When she noticed them, she wasn't to sure about, how the other person(Harima) felt and so she was often troubled in these situations.

I haven't seen a clear ending, where Harima ends up with Yakumo, btw. The SR ending is an open ending, where only a couple of love birds end up together. Harima wasn't one of them.

-Epilogue-
(....)
Thus I came here

Toradora is a good series, speaking of developments in love. The ending is, not like SR, open, but really solied. Taiga ending up with Ryuji.

If talking about SR, one is never to late for the party, in some way. The series may get older and older, but the quality never drops. Tough it's sad, that with every additional year, the total number of animes is rising and less and less people are gonna even notice such a masterpiece anime and manga. What I see in the last few seasons is a trend, that goes slightly away from solid love stories, but are more focused on 'moe' and 'ecchi', what always makes money.

I didn't really have any favorite characters until Azusa joined the band, but yea, I think I was unfair in comparing SR and K-On based on their genres.

I was trying to speak from Harima's POV :P, every time she's around he always ends up in some compromising position that torpedoes his chances with Tenma (hence him calling her 'stupid' more than once even though she's far from it..), though sometimes I'd like to meet someone like her irl.

As for the ending, it seems like a troper on TvTropes said that Harima ends up living with Yakumo despite being engaged to Eri, so it's a sort of 3-person engagement that everyone's happy with.

I had really hoped for Harima to lose the match in SRZ, simply because it would have been so nice to see their actual marriage between an embarassed Eri and Harima :D

Toradora is a good series, speaking of developments in love. The ending is, not like SR, open, but really solied. Taiga ending up with Ryuji.

I thought Toradora! was okay, with the ending seeming a bit forced and not as enjoyable compared to the earlier parts of the series. Still, maybe I'm just being fussy~

Mm yea, fanservice is helpful (*stares at Mayo Chiki* -.-) in getting a series that lacks decent writing to be popular.
I was somewhat surprised to see a few instances where there was more fanservice than I expected in SR (namely the few situations where the girls are bathing in a hotspring or in their shower rooms). Compared to most recent series, however, this low level of fanservice (to me) is much better and proves that SR doesn't have to appeal to hormones to be liked ^^

Yup. I come by every couple of days to see if anything new has been posted. Miss it. There's really nothing like it as far as I've seen.

SR fanatics, check in! :D

Checking in! I come here every now and then. Hoping for some news on SR or even JK, since I've kinda liked everything he's written. Kinda sad Ichiro Heian didn't go anywhere, but I'd still follow if he made something else. But, no news.

But hey, if Rozen Maiden can return, so can SR!

In all the years, I haven't found a single anime, that comes close to the awsomeness of School Rumble.

I haven't either to be honest. In terms of Rom-Com, only Seto no Hanayome and Hayate no Gotoku have come close, but never to SR level.

In terms of non Rom-Com shows, I loved Kemono Souja Erin, Katanagatari, Kino no Tabi, AnoHana and from last year Tari Tari. But even then, as much as I love these shows, they just lack something that SR had. And so SR remains top for me.

:O, I've heard of Hayate no Gotoku, but wasn't really sure if I should check it out. I think I'll watch them based on your recommendation ^^

Somehow I don't think that will work. If Jk's really interested in continuing an old series, there must be a trigger for him to do so. Maybe if he's getting bored with all the new stuff that he has produced or they're not as successful as he hoped, then he might look back at an old series like SR and decide that this might be a path for him to return to popularity again.
But fanmai from one of his fans, I don't think so :x He'll probably dismiss that as 'something I used to do around 7~8 years ago, but I've long forgotten about it and my current work is more interesting!'

I think, I plan to make a list of SR fans that are still active here. If you're active, quote this paragraph and add your own name to it ^^

Finally, I'm planning to do a drum cover each of 2 songs from SR that I like quite a lot and post on my YT account. I think it's the least I can do for an anime series that I like :). I'll post the links here when I've uploaded the drum covers!

One does not simply discuss SR with JK. I think you take it to slightly. We have sent some mails to him but without any chances to get a reply. If you don't speak perfect Japanese, you don't have any slight chances, that he will read the email to the end.

I watched Hayate just for the jokes. :D

@Sola: Ooh, didn't know that your had tried something like that in the past. Mmm, haven't had time to watch any new anime I've had my eye on yet. but since Hayate has 2 favourable reviews, that should be the first few I have to check out ^^

You posted that in the other thread, already. There is no need to spam here. We are only a few people, who are still luring around in the SR part of this forum. Btw, this petition is three years old and it's most likely not active anymore, but simply a corpse of endless failed petitions.
