I have been looking on the forums, searching for itachi and a few other things brings up 400+ results :(, re-reading manga but haven't found it.
Why did Itachi want Naruto?
If its been discussed a link would be just as good :)

he wants to extract the power of kyuubi for his organization
So does anyone know what exactly Itachi's Organization is?

i dont know why he'd need to be in an organization being the strongest ninja in the world. unless he isnt, or hes the president.
Akatsuki, a small organization with 9 shinobi's.
i doubt itachi is the strongest ninja in the series, despite his awesome showing so far. i mean, its almost destined that sasuke will defeat him, and we can't have co-star defeat the most powerful opponent. that task is of course left to the main kid with his name all over the title. yup, naruto. so there's gotta be someone or something stronger, either one(s) from the akasuki or another legendary demon.

I guess this was forshadowing for the next arc? Or maybe they intertwine late in this arc.

its sasuke's destiny to kill itachi, nothing can come between him and his revenge

unless Naruto wants to REALLY piss Sasuke off in retaliation for the bullshit they went through trying to get him back :D :p

i am also curious to see when he will show up. because the way things are going its like the author is waiting for naruto to get stronger before he bring them back into the picture. because they are way out of all but the leaf sanin legue. 9 s-class nin all in the bingo book. if he did one or two more arc 's b4 he is brought back i can understand. its like a build up so that they will be somewhat able to handle them.

I've always though that it will take Sasuke and Naruto working together to beat Itachi. Considering where Sasuke is at now, and where he needs to be to beat Itachi, the series will end before he has a chance in hell.
Or something really pathetic happens and sakura accidentily drops a kunai off an overpass which Itachi happens to be walking under....

See I guess I will have to re read some more. For some reason I thought they were working with Oro. I guess that was an inference from the fact he is also a S-class criminal.

Oro used to belong to that same organization. He left once Itachi joined because he was no longer the strongest one. Hopefully there will be a flash back to the fight between them. I thought I saw a severed hand that belonged to Orochimaru with that organizations ring on it.

Itachi doesn't seem the strongest because he even mentioned he was taking orders from 'the higher echelons' of his organization. If he was the strongest y would he be taking orders from someone(s)? Besides, he's gonna die. The 'strongest' in a series like this always shifts from one person to another.

I am beginning to think there were two reasons for Itachi to show up when he did
One, to fore-shadow another arc.
two, to give a very good motivation for Sasuke to go with the Sound nins plan.
I mean Itachi flat out made Sasuke a little girl.
Also does anyone notice Sasuke has a tendency to freeze up with fear any time he comes up someone that is stronger.

Oro was with them; that's why he didn't finish off Naruto at the Forest of Death (?) back then because he was aware that Akatsuki was interested in kyuubi. He even said he left that organization during his conversation with Kabuto in Sound Village after the invasion...you could see Oro's Akatsuki ring (it means either "empty" or "air")

Itachi doesn't have to be the "strongest" of the nine. Heck, Itachi can be weaker than everyone else in the organization while Orochimaru can be the strongest, but as long as Itachi can take Oro down, Oro would consider Itachi stronger; that's how I interpret Orochimaru's comment. He is afterall a Sanin who took down two Kages; if the organization has ninjas who are all on par or superior to Orochimaru then hell would've gone loose looooong time ago.

#2 isn't a direct action by Itachi himself, but to further develop the plot. It's just a nice sequence for Sasuke to use the encounter where he got his ass handed to him by Itachi as a reason to go with the 4 sound nins, because that's what Orochimaru expects n wants, because he knows Sasuke desires strength.
And that tendency to freeze is his punkass ego going down the shitter whenever he comes across someone stronger because he is a little girl.

That applies too, so u COULD say Sasuke is stronger than Itachi because he's probably gonna kill him, n Naruto is even STRONGER because he's the main character yada yada so on n so forth.
I would prefer it if Naruto kills Itachi than Sasuke killing him.
It's always noted that getting revenge changes nothing, and you still feel as bad as before. Even Kakashi tells him this.
Naruto killing Itachi would seriously piss off Sasuke and throw him completely off the rails.
On a side note, has anybody noticed, the more rash decisions Sasuke makes, including running off to Oro for power, the further away from being able to defeat Itachi he becomes?
Relying on that curse seal is his worst decision ever.
At lvl2 Neji and Naruto can still still give him a very good challenge (unless Kishimoto makes some major continuity errors).
IMO Sasuke (in the end) > Itachi > Oro
When Oro first meets Sasuke to test is power I got the impression that oro was Itachi's subordinate and hence not as strong. When Sasuke does the move that nearly blows off his head, Oro says he sensed that sasuke has more power behind his eyes than even Itachi which only fueled his desire to have sasuke as his next host so he could surpass Itachi

well Itachi taking orders from someone doesn't mean he is weaker than him but anyways there is gonna be someone stronger than him definatly :D and Naruto is gonna kick that person's ass!

So, akasuki have only 9 members? I think it have a close relation with the 9 great demons surrouding the world... And so that's why Itachi wants Naruto.

Naruto seems to be against killing people though, I don't think he will kill anyone.
Zabura took orders from someone who wasn't as powerful.
I think Sasuke shows what revenge does to a person. He will probably get a point later on where he can kill Itachi only to hesitate.

So was Vash in trigun, but he was eventually forced to kill Legato. Naruto is a Ninja. At some point he'll have to kill his opponent. There have been a few times so far when he was prepared to.

Killing is part of what ninjas do. During the Wave Country arc, Kakashi was hoping that Naruto wouldn't have to "destroy his heart" and kill Haku.
