This forum seems so empty without a Bottle Fairy thread *sniff* So I wanted to start a new one to keep that Fairy love alive!
This series is just so perky and cute. I keep watching it because it leaves me in such a good mood when I'm done. Though I'm also kind of glad it's as short (both length wise and episode wise) as it is, because it could get old. My favorite character is Sarara, because she's such a tomboy. I get a kick out of all her samurai fantasies!
There, that should be a good start...

You sure that half hour episodes wouldn't be better. It just might rot the teeth or leave you a pile of goo. The evils of ultra-cute.

I love Hororo best! She's so strange and always eating odd things (like Kururu's head). Of course her greatest moment was when she went over to the dark side in the Tokimeki Pyramid. Hororo the Evil Scientist! Then there was the beginning of the June episode where Kururu falls in love with Senpai, but Hororo is upset because she loves Kururu! Heh. Hororo always makes me fall over laughing when she can't get with the scene! :D
Of course I love all the other fairies too, but she's my favorite.

I like Hororo best too.
It could be that I like her because I can identify with her personality most. If something interests me I'm likely to stare at it or wander off following it, and if something looks tasty I'll probably eat it, ignoring "rules" of appropriateness. Also, when she got bored and started spinning around in that ghost-decoration thingie... that was so funny I had to pause the anime. :D
One thing bugging me about Bottle Fairy is that Hororo hasn't gotten a center spot on one of those beautiful end-credit pictures. It seems Chiriri and Sarara are more favored! :frustrated: Just 'cause Chiriri is prettier with the blonde hair. :p (Though she WAS cuter than anythng ever in the ending-picture wearing yukatas and her with the fox-mask on her head. )

Yay Bottle fairy ^^ Hororo is my favorite too. She may look like she's clueless sometimes but you can tell there's a lot more to her then meets the eyes. The evil professor was a good example hehe.
It's too bad there isn't bigger images of the endings, since you could make a calendar with a different picture each month ^^

I love them all too...I did a Kururu cosplay for my local anime clubs Halloween party (Bottle Fairy is great for cosplay on a budget).
I seriously think that there isn't enough plot in these episodes to stretch into a half hour series. Maybe if it was two separate storylines, but I like it the way it is. Bottle Fairy is great fun, but not substantial enough to carry a full-length series.
Ahhhhh...I want plushies!

So... sinc ethe old forum is gone... lemme restate my theory that Bottle Fairy is a strange Japanese reincarnation of Muppet Babies. Think of Senseisan as Nanny and how the fairies use their imagination to construct crazy explnations for everday events and the holidays. Ok.. it's no Grand Unifacation Theory, but jsut a thought that came to mind.

I think someone posted something in the old Bottle Fairy thread that I never got around to answering, about the significance of June Brides. Well, the Starchild Bottle Fairy site (http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/binzume/index.html) opened today (Go look around! There are cute pictures!), and it happens to have a section with Tama-chan explaining things, so I though I'd translate the explanation and post it:
In Roman mythology, the month of June is governed by the goddess of marriage, Juno. June is called "June" in English, right? That's because it was taken from the goddess Juno's name. The origin of "June brides" comes from the saying that if you get married in June, the goddess Juno will bless your marriage with happiness. In Japan, July is watched over by Jun of "I'm Jun! I'm Chousaku!" fame. Because of that, there's a saying that if you get married in July, your family will be blessed with never-ending laughter. I think if I had to choose, I'd say I want to be married in July!
I think Jun and Chousaku were some sort of stand-up comedians, but I got tired of looking through Google results for Super Robot Wars characters named after them. Tama-chan = wuv!

Anyone know when the OP/ED singles will be released?
And does it mean there will be 4 ED songs? (for each season I guess)
Jasconius
2003-11-06, 09:26
The album "Bindzume Yousei Variety Album~Four Seasons" comes out on 12/21/03, and it has been confirmed by CDJapan to have the OP song on it (dunno if it's full size, TV size, or what). Another page I look at says that the album will have unit songs will all four seiyuu, solo character songs, and BGM (hence the "variety album"), so I would imagine that it will probably be the place to get the OP and all of the ED songs. The catalog number is KICA-617, and the list price will be 2,857 yen.
King Records is one of the few big labels that hasn't given in to the CCCD trend yet, so this, as all of their other CDs, does not contain any stupid copy protection crap (yay, I can buy it!)
In other Bindzume Yousei news, Amazon.co.jp lists the dates for the first two R2 DVDs! It looks like there will be 4 DVDs, 3,500 yen each. The release dates for the first two are 01/21/04 and 02/25/04. No news yet on any extras or boxes or the like. ^_^

Thanks for the info! I like the ED songs in this anime. About the OP, it's cute, but bleh, do the lyrics really need to be like that, talking about the anime and all? (Oshiete Sensei-san). I'd prefer songs to be off-topic to the anime itself.

Yay, Episode 6! I was going through withdrawal.
The fairies go to school! And you know what that means...cute uniforms! And it also means...fairies teaching classes! Since their first teacher escaped. Kibi!

I like it a lot, but I have to admit its overwhelming cuteness forces me to watch it in small pieces :heh:
Between gales of laughter, has anybody else felt the concept is a bit disturbing? Boy keeps a collection of little fairies in big glass jars... brrrrr... Kinda remindes me some creepy kids I grew up with who liked to catch flies and spiders. I don't want to tell you the poor critters had a gruesome final. I hope nobody ever, ever writes a doujinshi on those lines.

Yay, Episode 6! I was going through withdrawal.
Finally! I didn't know how much longer I would last :upset:
I love the fact that the ending pictures are not the same and the song changes also, Ep 1 to 3 was the one about the Sakura's and 4 to 6(i guess) is the one about summer, I think that it will change in the next ep.

IT's a different group of animators out of the main group. They do that in all of the anime series. They'll have anywhere from 4-12 groups of animators, each one works on a single episode because it takes a good 2-3 months to properly produce a single episode, so even though each of their drawing styles seems the same, it's actually entirely different drawing and animation teams all working together. And yes, you're right. They botched some of the animation on this one. But only small errors though.
But overall I loved the episode. It was just too cute. Especially the Kempo roll! :D
Lord Raiden
2003-11-12, 09:52
I wonder what they're going to do for October. I bet they do something related to Halloween, provided that's celebrated in Japan.
Did anyone notice the production values decrease slightly with this episode? The cels seemed a bit more hastily done, and the girls' body proportions were off. It happened with GSG episode 3 as well.
Maybe I'm just going insane =/

The art was definitely a bit off this episode.
No cels though, since it's a digital show.
Great moments in episode 6:
+ "The teacher is escaping!"
+ Horroro's way of "making" egg tofu.
+ Kururu's Japanese lesson.
+ "Suusshi roll... oh my..."
+ Giant potato chips!
+ Mini graduation slips ? Awww...

This show really doesn't really need a new thread for each episode. It just isn't that complicated. Especially since this issue is already being discussed in the main thread at http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=10912&postcount=22. If you'd bothered to read the main thread you would have seen that because you didn't post this there, ashibaka brought up the same exact issue 11 minutes later. We could have avoided the duplication of efforts if you hadn't created this thread.
don't forget:
+ "hold down the chicken and slith its neck, then hold it upside down and let all the blood pour out"
+ "Hororo is the only one that passed the test???"
:D
cute as ever, love this show :D

What was Sensei humming at the beginning of the episode? Was it "ningen Nante"? :D j/k
What was Horoo saying when she was walking to school? Was it just nonsense walking syllables or is that something kindergarteners sometimes say when walking?
And who was it that noticed that Chiriri wears hat's all of the time? I'm starting to look for it now, and it's a bit distracting... :(

Hats! Hats!
I'm thinking of making a page dedicated to her hats, with screenshots from each episode. Maybe.
My favorite so far: the rain shawl over the head of the weather charm Chiriri was tied to  )

On the official page (http://www.enterbrain.co.jp/magical-cute/bindume.htm), it says "this fairy always treats protection of her head as the highest priority for some reason". That would explain the hats.
Just started watching this show again, downloaded 1&2 when it first came out but after watching those 2 eps I decided to ditch the show. Somehow I decided to give it a try again so I downloaded eps 3-6. Now Im starting to like it, epspecially after ep 6

I was wondering are there 12 episodes in Bottle fairy..... 12 months so probably 12 episodes... :( i want more..... OVA??
There are actually 13 episodes, according to various sources. I speculate that there must be one for the hidden month of jyuu-san-gatsu.

Actually, I think in episode 13 they will take all that they have learned and apply it to becoming human. But whatcha wanna bet if they do become human that they'll end up about as old as sensai's little sister or a tad younger. Cause that's about their mental level right now. :) Not knocking them, just suggesting some ideas.
The other possibility is that they don't get their wish and are sent back to fairy land.
I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this before, but doesn't it seem like there is always a set personallity for every famous group of 4? 1 leader, 1 goofball, 1 brain, and 1 rebel.
Bottle Fairy
the pink haired one is the leader. ussually the one who motivates the group to do these crazy things.
Hororo is the goofball. obviously.
the blonde haired one is the brain. she is the one who often grabs the giant book from the shelf
Sarara is the rebel. always seems to be on a different mind set than the other fairies, usually more violent. :D
Naruto
Kakashi / leader
Naruto / goofball
Sakura / brain
Sasuke / rebel
Ninja Turtles
Leonardo / leader
Michealangelo / goofball
Donatelo / brain
Raphael / rebel
i think there are others too, but i'm sleepy right now and I can't think up any more groups of 4
Lord Raiden
2003-11-15, 13:43
Good comparision, but ironically enough, I think this even comes from real life as well. I've seen groups where there's a mix of personalities like this on a regular basis.
I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this before, but doesn't it seem like there is always a set personallity for every famous group of 4? 1 leader, 1 goofball, 1 brain, and 1 rebel.
That's brilliant, thanks for pointing that out. I just realised that the
problem with my developing manga is that it has two "leader"s and no
"brains" :D

This is a really nice series and keep up the good work guys.
hmmm, RL too? maybe there is a reason to it then...
if it has to do with anything, it must be leadership. If there is a leader, then there will rise a goofball who doesn't follow orders and a rebel that would rather be the leader and a brain who persists in excelling above the leader in knowledge.
I also noticed that they had very cliché personalities, and I love to make fun of it (which is probably why I love it so much ^^;;).
The hyper one, the passive one, the cynical ("rebel") one, and the stupid/perpetually hungry one.
These kinds of character groups appear in lots of animes too.
Aaah...gotta love Bottle Fairy.
I was further interested, and made a little table of all the anime I had watched where there was a team of characters and what sort of characters they were.
Many didn't fit HoboGod's generalisation perfectly-- Tenchi Muyo did.
I also had to invent a few extra types:
- Shy (Shinobu in Love Hina, Shaoran in CCS)
- Omnipotent (Sensei in Bottle Fairy, Yukito and Eriol in CCS)
- Cute Sidekick (self-explanatory)
- Generic Guy (Tenchi in Tenchi Muyo, Taro in Hanaukyo Maids, whoever the heck the main character is in Sister Princess and Da Capo and all those other rehashes)
- Osaka (only shows up in anime produced on or after the release of Azumanga Daioh. ripoffs ;) )
- Proto-Osaka (Ayame in Wandaba Style)
- Chiyo (Chiyo, Yotsuba, probably more to come.)
- Proto-Chiyo/Lolicon (Sakura in CCS, Arale in Dr. Slump)
- Anti-Chiyo/Satirical Lolicon (Sakura in Wandaba Style, Dejiko in the original Di Gi Charat)
- Forgotten Character (Yuri in Wandaba Style, Yomi in Azumanga)
Note that I am presenting Azumanga as the Platonic ideal. :p

Oh, come on, I really liked the poetry in episode 7.
[edit] Come to think of it, maybe you thought it wasn't funny because you haven't read very much Japanese poetry. FYI, Japanese poetry is usually very condensed, and jumps from thought to thought quickly; for example, haiku. The bottle fairies' poetry was the complete opposite, and Kururu was pretty hiliarious saying "sugoi" over and over again.

Quite the different episode. Totally different from the rest, I really liked it... instead of getting a lesson in Japanese culture they learn a life lesson.
But thank goodness they did the wacky stuff in the earlier episodes, I don't think a lot of eps like this at the beginning would have held my attention. :)
Quick question: was there any significance to all the girls wearing black in the credits picture? (And I'm still upset that Chiriri and not Hororo keeps getting center shot on these beautiful images. )

I think ep 8 is pretty good. It's a bit different in story and more emotional than previous episodes.
The ONLY downside of this ep 8 is the characters' artworks. Anyone else here notice that Hororo's face is out of proportion???
A surprise change of mood from the humorous eps from before in that episode. Very touching...
Ep. 7 was funny, especially Tama-chan playing that game... :heh:
Ep. 8 on the other hand was sad, but still a happy ending. Seeing Kururu crying was emotional. But I guess that next episodes will focus on winter and they will be again cute and funny. :D
One question: Why they used egg shells? Is there a japanese tradition behind this one?
Kempis Curious: Maybe it was because this episode was sadder than previous ones...

I have to agree, this one was more emotional. Still, it's not entirely out of place either. Episode 3 was a little somber at the end when Kururu was trying to understand rejecting love, so I had a hunch there might be a slightly more serious episode.
Still, when Bottle Fairy is serious, it's hardly tear-jerking drama. It STILL leaves me smiling. I think this was the best way for the fairies to learn about death without shattering the mood of the show.
Count me in with those who want to know the signifigance of the eggshells. I know Tama-chan mentioned sowing eggshells in a garden in episode 3, but those were different circumstances...

That's a great observation. :) I didn't think of that. A plant's life cycle WAS probably the gentlest way of showing that.
I think the eggshells were supposed to be fertilizer. I'm guessing it should have been ground up and mixed with the soil, though. :)

I guess eggshells is an Asian thing, my mom uses them also for plants. I think they're fertilizer and suppose to repel insects too.

So you think the black clothes at the end were for a funeral, thinking along the lines of Rebochan's idea that this episode was about death? :upset: That make me upset. I'm not sure why.

I´d think that the episode was about death ... in a rather mild way, but still. I wouldn´t find it upsetting: death is just a part of life. And yes, I liked episode 8. Different from the previous eps, in a good way. http://forums.animesuki.com/images/icons/icon14.gif

Just finished watching ep 9.
This episode is back to its track. The show is funny as usual; focusing the story on Chiriri.
I just can't stop laughing at Hororo when her reaction is slower than the others when Tama-chan said the New Year won't come. Also, the play that they acted together in which Kururu pretends as step-mother is pretty hilarious too.
I thought that this ep will be about Xmas, but it turns out to be only a short part of the story in the beginning of episode
Kempis Curious: No, I didn't think that episode 8 was about death. Before it was mentioned, I didn't even think about this episode that way.
Since this was autumn episode and darker than previous episode I thought it was the reason behind black clothes. I saw that ep. 8 was more about the cycle of life (death is just a single part of it) Sensei-san mentioned something like that in the end of ep. 8.
But yes, this was probably the best and the gentlest way to explain something like death.
Damn, Hikari no Kiseki releases episode so fast that hardly one episode discussion has started, next episode is released (Good job, guys!).
Episode 9 was again normal cuteness, and maybe more about drama than any other episode so far, but still, I laughed a lot.
As soon as they mentioned "song battle" I thought that Sarara will definetely notice that, and I was right. :heh:

UTAAAAAAA! UTAAAAAA! The song battle!
I got a kick out of the final title card joking about how they had to end it before New Year's Day because it was an episode about December.
Hororo seems to like mustaches, because she keeps winding up in them. So kawaii though. Also seeing Sarara as the shy love interest...I think...darned if I can follow a soap, even when it's a parody soap.
Only negative was that we didn't get to see them celebrate Christmas. I would have loved to see what kind of presents they got. I can imagine that Sarara would have gotten a small katana, Hororo a package of sweets, and Chiriri another cute hat, but what for Kururu?
Is HnK all caught up now? That was quite a frantic release of episodes! Many thanks for catching up so quickly, and of course for bringing us Bottle Fairy in the first place:)
I also wished December would be a Christmas episode, but the end of it was hilarious. :D

The soap was a little funny because Oborochan was Chiriri's mom :p but mostly it was just the humour of Hororo wearing a moustache.

But still, the clothes thing is interesting... ? When I first saw them I thought they were wearing pyjamas, undershirts and nighties, but when they never changed out of them it was like "ook ^^"
They're so cute, they need more variety!!
But, the costumes they put on during their antics might not be as effectively cute if they already wore elaborate costumes, right?
Did that make any sense? ^^;
So what if those fairies would wear typical mahou shoujo (magical girl) type colourful clothes. Hmm... not so good idea IMO.
I don't know, maybe it really is kind of symbolism to their innocense, since they are trying to be humans, or maybe I'm trying to see something that isn't there. Sometimes clothes are just clothes.
Maybe it's as simple as the artists choosing white so their hair and eye colors would stand out the most..

Wow, glad to see so many people enjoying Bottle Fairy :)
Just want to add this note.. someone asked about the significant of June Bride... I can tell you it's a VERY BIG DEAL. I don't know how the notion originated but it's a huge deal for girls all over Asia to get married in June. In fact I got married in June for partly that very reason. You need to get married in June and have a lovely outdoors wedding to be "shiawase" (happy). Them's the rules.
Never enjoyed a cutsy anime as much as Bottle Fairies. Love the jokes! Althought this series is designed for little girls and serves as an education vehicle about Japanese seasons and holidays, I really enjoyed the humour.
My favorite part: The June show where the "Husband" is about to "cheat" on his 4 wives... that is such a great parody of Japanese doramas where the rating usually the highest when the main male character starts to cheat... It's not just cute but smart as well!
What exact does Sensei-san teach them? I mean I watched all the episodes and sensei mostly... buys them food, tucks them in, and tells them he can't take them to school. I think most of the teaching is being done by Tama-chan, no?
In fact, why are they living with Sensei? Doesn't it make more sense (and less chance of "misunderstanding") they they live with Tama-chan instead? From the looks of his clothing, Sensei is a college student. What's a single college boy doing with 4 little faries sleeping on his desk daily? I mean, gnosh, I'm sure there's PLENTY of things a college age dude may want to do in his room that's "inappropriate" for 4 little faries to see, no? :)
I'm not saying he's a perv mind you.. I'm sure he treats them like little sisters... but single college guy in Japan? Unless he's anti-social and has no need for human companionship I'm not sure how much of his life he can even show 4 little child-like faries, much less teach them. :)

Can anyone inform us where Bottle Fairy came from? Did it come from a manga? Or a book? Children stories? Concept chara designs? Or is it an original story?
So tell me if it's really aimed at little girls in the hopes to educate them about Japanese seasons and holidays... it's being shown 2:00 in the "MORNING"!!!
I like Bottle Fairy! It's just that the show... as abubo had said, doesn't quite follow the descriptive lyrics of the OP sequence... Sensei-san doesn't teach them anything! (maybe only in ep. 1 he did talk about something meaningful)
So tell me if it's really aimed at little girls in the hopes to educate them about Japanese seasons and holidays... it's being shown 2:00 in the "MORNING"!!!
hontoni? I have no idea it was shown this late... wow, that's time slot reserved for shows like Hellsing and Last Exile... Hmm.. maybe there IS a pervy aspect to this show? Damn, it just doesn't feel like it.. I mean they purposefully avoided having them naked by having them misunderstand the physical checkup part of their "schooling" experience. If this is lolicom show, it sure doesn't feel like it that much, except the fact that we have this single college-age dude living with them (a righteous-looking young lad I might add!)
I gotta to more digging on the Japanese site to find more clues!
sometimes.... it's best not to dig things too deeply...
well, it seemed that from the Bottle Fairy official site http://www.enterbrain.co.jp/magical-cute/bindume.htm that this anime is not based on a manga or game. In fact the game has not come out yet.
The creator, Tokumi Yuiko, has only done character design work for an old PlayStation 1 dating sim game called "Iris". She (I HOPE it's a SHE!) has no other credit, appearantly. She does have a website called Hakka Ya (Mint House) http://www5b.biglobe.ne.jp/~hakka-ya/ where you can find the fairies right on front. I believe she is a well respected bishojou designer in Japanese webrings.
I can't find much about the origin of Bottle Fairies, but there's some hint that they may have come from a doujinshi published by herself (speculation only). I think the anime's the first commercial appearance of the Fairies. There's a CD and a PC Game planned but not yet released (12/28/03 for the CD, and 3/24/04 for the DVD. No release date for the game).
As for the NATURE of the anime... eh... hmm... anoo... etoo.. appearantly... although Yuiko-sensei is famous for her work, a lot of her admirer refer to her works as .... ahim, lolicom.... I mean her older art samples on her page does kinda have that feel... I think all indications from my research that this particular artist does have a tiny lolicom slant to her work... and at this point I don't believe that "Bindume Yousei" is made with purely children in mind or is especially educational in nature (thus the 2AM timeslot. Anime for children are broadcast in the morning and from 4-6PM, much like our own).
I do hope someone proves me wrong though.. all this is discovered via some fancy googling, nothing else. I really have no clue about the series before I download it so I watched it with open mind. I do still love it and won't put any hentai slant on the series, but I don't think it's an educational series for children anymore though (unless most families in Japan own PVRs, which I don't think is the case).
Well, that does kinda explain the sometimes adult humour and the whole "living with a single grown man" thing.
The Japanese entertaiment world is so vast and detailed that I find myself get lost in it so quickly. It's extremely tough to know what's the intended audience of some series. For example, I have no idea that Azumanga Daioh was a SHONEN manga published in a manga magazine for teen age boys (Comic Dengeki Daioh, just like Stellvia and Tsukihime). I would never have guessed how many anime/manga starring girls or feature only girls are targeted toward boys!
And as for Bottle Fairy... well, I do find a lot of girls loving it as well, so I think it's extremely hard to speculate its "intended" audience since I really don't have a clue. It could be cutsy show that's designed to appeal to both teenage girls (superb character-oriented cuteness) and boys (cool humour factor and a guy protagonist). Cross promotion is extremely desirable in Japan, so if I'm forced to guess, it's really geared toward both sexes, ages 12 and above. But I don't believe this anime has any hentai or lolicom undercurrent to it at all (okay maybe just a little too much posing...)
Regardless, I still love the series dearly and hopefully these trivial information won't detract from your enjoyment of the series as well. Sometimes I think we are lucky not being fully part of the Japanese pop culture... Ignorance is bliss, as they say.
sometimes.... it's best not to dig things too deeply...

Bottle Fairy goods are starting to come out now too. So far I've found pins of each fairy in their bottle, a little package of very cute stickers, postcards, and a Oboro-chan rubber keychain (strap). No, unless you include a 1 page color short with her in it. But I only have November's Issue. I really didn't have any interest in ever getting the magazine until I saw Bottle Fairy listed on the cover. The magazine is 98% useless if you care not for ecchi (panty shots, nudity, and the like). etc, etc
I don't have any more than vague answers to a lot of the things you brought up (like what exactly Sensei-san is supposed to be teaching them), but I do have the answer to this. Sensei-san is the character you play in the game, which has a completely separate storyline where your goal is to get the fairies to become human at the end. The official page said that the game and the anime storylines aren't connected at all, so you can enjoy both separately, and so in the anime Sensei-san happens to do nothing to interact with the fairies.
As for the origins of Bottle Fairy, yes, the character designer did do designs for ADV games before, but this particular project is not supposed to be H, only cute. As far as I can tell, the short comics first ran in Magical Cute back in fall/winter '02, and then they announced a game based on those comics to come out in the spring of '03. Whether this game ever actually came out or not is a great mystery to me. Mizuki Nana's site (Kururu's seiyuu) lists the game as coming out in October, most sites if you google list it as coming out in April '03, but I cannot find a single review or place to buy the game, and I also can't find any announcements that it was delayed. So I'm really not sure at all.
Anyway, whatever the origins, Bottle Fairy remains a parody of kids' shows aimed at adults. The characters are supposed to be moe~ of course (what isn't these days) but the actual show/game/comics aren't H at all. Of course we look at the whole thing from an entirely different perspective from outside of Japan, so it all seems a bit weird, but that's just how things are. ^_^

Yon-koma... 4 panel comics a la Azumanga? Obattalion? :) I'd just imagine that most short manga in mag like that are 4-koma type.
Thanks for the info... I've seen Magical-Cute in Japan and in States before (in our local Kinokuniya) but like you say... not into ecchi stuff so never picked it up... it's the association of Bottle Fairie with Magi-Cu which let me to believe that it's NOT for kiddies (and a large water drop on my forehead :))... Really? Outdoors? Weddings happen in anime every once in a while but the ceremony seems to take place mostly indoors.
Outdoor is "dream", indoor is "reality". At least the photo shoot will happen outdoors (one hopes). Wedding photos are very important as well.
Reguardless of location, the time June is key. As for anime weddings, well I don't recall any off the top of my head that's June specific, but I would imagine that this won't be mentioned unless it's actually part of the plot.
Plus, MEN don't generally know or understand the concept of June Wedding anyway, and most anime you saw are drawn or written by men. Women, like the creator (and presumably writer) of Bottle Fairy, knows this fact very, very well, as it's been imprinted in their mind since they were little girls by the media and popular culture. Newspapers and women's magazines harp about the virtue of June wedding. And yes, I believe is the busiest month for the industry.
Added note: this is usually facination for young brides... older women don't care about this as much.

Just a quick note that Bottle Fairy 11 didn't air on Shin-Hiroshima this week, so the episode might be a little late. It looks like it's still on schedule to air on TV Kanagawa, but I guess we'll find out soon if it was just this one station on which it didn't air, or if there will be some sort of delay for the episode. About 12 hours until it should be done airing now. ^_^
Thanks {b]Jasconius[/b].
Of course we all think you're the cat's pyjamas, the bee's knees, and such for translating BF for us.

OK, I know this is a moot point but....
I was curious and looked up the Kanji that makes up the title for "Bottle Fairy"...
and it would seem to me that a more appropriate translation would be something like: "Bottled Faries" Of course, the english directly on the logo claims otherwise, so its not a point for fansubbers to discuss, but to anyone out there who knows mre japanese then me, is this a valid point?

I saw Ep 11 raw torrent on another site, so I guess it did air somewhere. I'm too lazy to check the forum regulations to see if I can post links to other torrent list sites, so I just won't. It's easy enough to find anyway. :)

Hypothetical daughter. :D Besides which, Jasconius translated Princess Tutu as well... has got great taste in at least two anime series, at least.

True, he has a great taste for anime and manga. ^^
Somewhat late, but did anyone notice that the Fairies' house being blown away during Kururu's poem in 07 were the traditional Three Little Pigs house materials?
Oh, and I also wish Sensei-san would do more than smile gently at everything. What's his plot in the game? Does it have anything to do with the love letter he "respectfully declined" in 03? Does he also have to raise the fairies, like in Princess Maker or something?
Oh, and I also wish Sensei-san would do more than smile gently at everything. What's his plot in the game? Does it have anything to do with the love letter he "respectfully declined" in 03?
He did teach them SOMETHING. In 10 he teaches them a little about New Years Greeting Cards... and the promptly dissappeared once Tama-chan and the Fairies start to play the board game. Probably out dating the girl who sent him the Labu Lettah. After the game ends and Sensei returns from the Labu Hoteru, he gently tuck them in as always... aw so sweet. :)
Does he also have to raise the fairies, like in Princess Maker or something?
Oh gosh don't go there... Princess Maker? I hope they don't end up asking Sensei for his preference in cup sizes... arg!!! Well at least the Sensei-san's not teaching them his secret stash of Ecchi Shashinshu, neh?
BTW, have you folks noticed how large the fairies got when they dreamt about becoming human? They're like a head taller than the 6th grade Tama-chan! Are they supposed to be TEENAGE Fairies?
Princess Maker?...asking Sensei for his preference in cup sizes...
Ew. Haven't actually played it. Thought it was cute.
After the game ends and Sensei returns from the Labu Hoteru...
Whoa, Sensei gets some sugar? Neat. He is a young man, after all. But why then did he respectfully decline in the anime?
What's Tama's role in the game? Comic relief? Does she play her own (hopefully tamer) dating game, like in the show? That'd have some great possibilities for lots of great humor.
If Kururu addressed Tama by name it would be "Tamarin," which is pretty close to "tamarind," a kind of monkey.
BTW, have you folks noticed how large the fairies got when they dreamt about becoming human? They're like a head taller than the 6th grade Tama-chan! Are they supposed to be TEENAGE Fairies?
Yeah, maybe the usual early teenagers. What I want to know it why S-san didn't get to show up. That's rude.

Just an update in case you weren't keeping track - it did indeed air on TV Kanagawa, but Shin-Hiroshima is now one week behind due to not airing it that one time.
We've been busy with some holiday preparations, but we should get a few eps out soon. Episode 12 had a surprise ending... o.O

Just wanted to contribute my appreciation of the Bottle Fairy translation project. The translation notes are just right...Not so many that they distract from the show, but enough to give an interesting insight into what the fairies are actually learning. Very nice!

I think that ball is part of her Chinese-styled outfit, kind of like a very large knot in a bow tie. I've seen those around.
Where did you see the calendar? Is it 2003-2004?

I also do appreciate the translation job. It was right on the money most of the time. One thing did stand out, was that "Narita Divorce" reference in June episode could be explained a little more.
"Narita Divorce" refers to the quicky divorce done by young newlyweds who got married quickly and decided to get devorced once they return from their Honeymoon overseas... usually it was at Narita Airport where they did this and parted ways cus Narita the largest International airport for Japan (and honeymoon destination's usually Hawaii or Guam). Some said it was a symptom of girls wanting to get married just for the sake of fulfilling their bridal and honeymoon dreams, and once that's done, they realized that they barely know the bastard, and call it a marriage. :)
Ew. Haven't actually played it. Thought it was cute.
No wonder. That's the game where you get to buy special formula for your "daughter" so she may "grow" in certain areas. Way back when a bunch of my friends had a "contest"... I wont' go into details. :)
Whoa, Sensei gets some sugar? Neat. He is a young man, after all. But why then did he respectfully decline in the anime?
That was a joke from me... :) He's not ecchi in the game or anime appearantly... I was just joking about it since how realistic was for a college age dude not to date or goto Labu Hoteru, but instead hanging out with a 6th grade and raise fairies all the time? But yet don't do a good job by sticking aroud all the time...
Yeah, maybe the usual early teenagers. What I want to know it why S-san didn't get to show up. That's rude.
Nah I think they are highschoolers. Notice in both the June Bride episode and the School episode they both dressed and acted as high school students. They even scolded poor Hororo for showing up in a kindergarden uniform.
That reminds me, I wish they had had an English class in that episodes...I find foreign English instruction interesting....probably would've been some good jokes, too. Oh, well.

Naturally, the explanation of the Narita Divorce could have been filled out, but I don't think there was nearly enough time during that little spot to explain all that. ^^;
We're hoping to get both 11 and 12 out soon.
Yay! New Bottle Fairy episodes!
By the way, I have a foggy idea about this kind of show being ideal for soft subs...Translation notes in different flavours would be really cool: The "Plaster my screen with notes"-level could be engaged on the second viewing. The first viewing could be done with the "Bare nececcities"-level or even "Just the show, ma'm"-level. Hmhm.

Was quite a ride... the end is surprising...
What's in #13? Well, maybe it's the fulfillment of the last two line of the OP! Let's see...
"Ah Teach us, Sensei-San; This, that, we want to know more!"
"Ah Show it show it Sensei-san! All the amazing secrets you can't talk about!"
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM..........
What could these lyrics mean? What's the amazing secrets Sensei can't talk about? Maybe they are secrets sensei-san can only show them when they become Wonderful Ladies? As in adult women Ladies?
U know I tried not to see the ecchi in BF, but what else can these lyrics seemed to imply? :)

13 episodes is fine with me, I've seen too many awesome animes die horribly in the second set of 13 episodes (Kare Kano, Princess Tutu, Tenshi ni Narumon, etc etc).
They shouldn't force it if they have run out of ideas or the series wraps up fine with this coming 13th ep.

Well....... now I'm confused.
That is a bit confusing. Check out this (http://www.enterbrain.co.jp/magical-cute/tv/goods.html) and draw your own conclusions. Sounds strange that they would air an extra on television though. Could it be some kind of new years special? But they already had a "new years" show so...

I just saw the first episodie, mmm I don't like it so far, it is too wierd and I didn't see any point in story at all. It seems that this series is perfect for 8 to 13 years old kids.
(By the way... Are the Fairies lesbians? 0_0 specially the one with black long hair?
I had that impression too at first, just keep watching. ;p
Sigh... they are the new poster bishoujou for Magi-Cute... thus... I don't think there's any doubt that the are in fact, GULP, lolicon...
I was hoping they won't since my wife really, really loves the fairies. We hum the OP all day long. Please don't let it end in like DAT...
Please please sensei-san don't teach them the things you can't talk about!
Anyone noticed how oddly the super-combi fairy looked? Her proportion seemed to have remained child-like, yet super-sized? I guess if they made the fairies to be like, a teenager, it won't be exactly lolicon, but just ecchi...
What I find most odd about unihuman is her halo of hair, or whatever it is....
How was her character design decided? Does pink, blonde, grey and black make...weird peachy color? And she has grey eyes...like Sensei-san!
For some reason, I can't see the fairies as lolicon, which means I win. :p

lolicon are things that cater to the Lolita Complex. You will also sometimes see it as Rorikon. If you need much more of an explanation than that, I suggest you learn about some fo the sexual fetishes that people develop. Lolita Complex gets its name from a book called Lolita (you can look it up, I have no interest in talking about the book itself). It isn't one of anime's bright points.

Lolicon is not a synonym of pedophilia... otherwise, we would be translating it as "pedophilia" rather than "lolicon"...

Review up, for those of you that are interested...
Er….that’s it?
Some nice moments, such as uni-fairy getting sidetracked (though I wonder why Kururu was archeology and why Hororo didn't get one. “Excuse me, would you be interested in eating everything in sight and being totally daft?”), it was nice to see Sensei-san and Tama in an ED pic (with a good song to boot), and it does easily set up a second season, which I would expect to be good, but….
I expected the end to be something like the fairies melding together inside Human Girl, their separate forms being metaphors for differant facets of a human’s personality, and they (or rather, she) learning to live as a human and…stuff!
It would preclude a second season, but it would add a nice light dusting of drama and emotion to the series. I like it when even series like this take themselves seriously in the end a bit (or else explode in madness). As it is, it was kind a cop-out. Bler.

The fusion thing really was a big change for an anime with only one episode left, unless Hororo's "next time" remark really does portend a second season. If not, I'm going to miss them. :(
Props to HnK, probably the best fansubbing job I've seen so far. The color subtitles were great and the cultural notes were mighty helpful. And heck, the good StarCreator and Jasconius visited this forum plenty of times to answer questions. ^_^ Anime at it's finest.

I totally agree. I was really sad to see such a boring ending to the series. ANYTHING where schizo-fairy had stayed that way in the end would have been better than the simple "oops, back to normal" ending. Not that Bottle Fairy needed a conclusive ending or anything, but it was silly just to throw that in at the end. Just finishing out a day as a combined human girl would have made a great last episode. Oh well, the last quarter of one episode isn't going to stop this from being one of my favorite series of the year. ^^
BTW, when the fairies started to transform back when they started crying, I immediately thought of those stories from the Pet Shop of Horrors manga - something like that would have been fun too. ^_^

We're happy a lot of people enjoyed this anime, and I was glad to hear all the comments and feedback about the notes and everything. Hope to see a lot of you again the next time a good series pops up in Japan.

P.S. The rumors about a season two are totally unsubstantiated. I wouldn't pay attention to a thing in that thread. You never know what the future may hold for Bottle Fairy, but I really wish rumors like that weren't posted, as they tend to get out of hand quickly. There's no credible information of any second season for Bottle Fairy at this time.
It'd be pretty sad if we didn't get one after that clunker of an ending!
Why'd they turn back, anyway? They cried over something stupid, and poof!

My theory on why the fairies turned back into fairies- At the end of the day, where would the unihuman sleep? Not on Sensei-san's desk I hope.....
Ah, well I liked the "We left Oboro-chan at school!!!!" thing.
Thanks again HnK!!!

Gee you people are harsh - this isn't "grave of the fireflies" here! The episode was fun and light-hearted which is all I really want from a show like this. You just aren't going to get Kanon type ending out of 10 minutes of showtime. :)
Besides, right off the bat they didn't want to become a *single* human, but they couldn't transform back - so all in all, it's a good thing the spell broke.
Looks like the creator's website features the combo-fairy-girl a couple of places too. I wouldn't be surprised if she shows up again if there's another season. Maybe she's a kind of "practice" human - it would be kind of neat if in the next stage of their lessons, the faries could combine into her once in awhile for first-hand human experiences. Viewers would then have the best of both worlds. :)
P.S. I don't think there's any actual rumors of a second season other than the show seemed to set itself up for one. I've seen it happen with endings like this, but of course it depends on how popular the show was too.

I've heard it was perty popular. :)
But either way, I'm really dying to see a second season and I'll watch it in a heartbeat if they'll make one. :D
Heck, I'll settle for a 1 hour OVA if that's all they wanna do in the meantime. :)

I thought it was a cute little ending, even with them splitting up again. The various personalities kept on conflicting in the one body anyway - how could all the girls be happy when they could only do one thing at a time?
I got a kick out of seeing the girls interact with the human world, even if it was only for a short while. Not an all-out ending to end all endings, but still pretty good - it kept up the rather genki, light-hearted feel of the entire series.
*sniffle* Now I don't have Bottle Fairy to look forward to anymore...KAMI-SAMA, give us a new season!
Just finished #13 with the wife... and I'd say we love it!
*spoiler galora*
a few thoughts...
1. The girls are so cute but kinda scary when they're one person.. talk about split personality! With changing eye colors no less
2. Now we know why sensei-san is called sensei-san. My best guess is that he's a doctoral student and not an actual professor. But he does teach classes as a TA slave I'm sure. It's kinda funny that the BF's didn't even know his name after living in his house for over a year!
3. Why didn't Hororo get her own club? Any sort of cooking or food club would be great! And why would Kururu be interested in paleontology? But Chiriri as idol-san... yeah! She's born to be an idol!
4. It's facinating to see a college in this type of anime; you would think that a high school would be a much more conventional setting, but Daigaku? I guess the fairies are over 18 for sure then. :)
5. Tama-chan and Sensei-san in the ED! Tama finally get her props! Lovely finale song.
6. I love the ending. The girls should not be one person... it was an gag and I thought the play on the girls' multiple personality was very original. But they had to be their own person! This setup for a second season for sure, as I'm suspecting the Fairies is going to become a merchandizing monster in Japan soon.
Isn't he Sensei-san becuase he's their sensei and they don't realize that it doesn't need the extra honorific? It's "cute."

Yeah it's cute, but also it explain that he's called sensei maybe not because he's supposed to be a teacher to them, but that he is in reality a teacher. Thus the lack of actual teaching the fairies anything much at all.
I think we're all reading way too much into this. :)

yeah but..... I don't know if I agree. I mean.. when he first met the fairies why would they call him sensei-san if they most likely didn't even know he was a teacher. Think about it- the fairies didn't even know what a school was.
Also- are you sure that sensei-san isn't just a student??? From the previous episodes when the fairies talked about school, exams, etc. it seemed to me (and because of his little book bag) that he was just a student.
Jus' because he was wearing a lab coat thing doesn't mean he was a teacher or anything... could be he was doing schoolwork in a lab or something.....

This is what scares me. The faries only know him by the name "sensei", and yet they don't even know what the word really means. Ergo, he must of introduced himself to them only as "sensei". What horrible sociological experiments has he been planning for these faries?! Bottles? Nay - I say - Skinner boxes!
...or is it a darker lesson Sensei-san has in store for our little sprites? Could he be exploiting a fairy's innate desire to become human to raise the poor unsuspecting yousei for the despicable fairy sex slavery trade? Maybe this be why he never actually teaches them the ways of the world - he prefers keeping them ignorant and dependent on him for their every need.

I think you just describe a perfect story for an H anime. Although i prefer something like this never happen to those cute innocent fairies.

Pocari-brutha, you need to watch some more Miyazaki. :)
Put DOWN the Urotsukidouji and think clean, happy thoughts.
Well, mostly clean. The BF swimsuit episode was a bit too moe~~~~ :D
Plus the college guys chasing down the combofairy in Chriri mode kinda said something about the target audience. :(

Hey, it a vicious world out there. You can trust the tender mercies of "Sensei-San" if you choose, but I'm not letting *my* faries anywhere near him. :heh:

hey, think of it this way. He's got good looks.... he COULD be a fat perverted nerd with all the things that make someone disgusting....
and at least sensei-san hasn't done anything to mentally scar the fairies that we've seen....

*cough* I may sound stupid for asking this but I just have to fully
know the answer. While watching I have seen some episodes and scenes which
in a sense mimic other shows. I was just wondering,
'Is bottle Fairy a parody of other anime?'
some I have noticed:
ep6 [when they walk to school]
It seems like Ranma 1/2...with the whole walking and kendo stick
I don't remember most of the details in other epsiodes.

Yeah, it parodies many common scenes in anime.
Oh, come on, Bottle Fairy is quite obviously a parody of other shows. Didn't you catch any of the J-drama jokes?!
Prince of Chronics

I caught them cuz of the translation notes... without those translations notes in the subs... I wouldn't have gotten most of the jokes..... :D
