View Full Version : Mamotte Shugogetten??

Was this series dropped or is it just taking forever for some of the groups to release it? I absolutely loved the first episode of the series and I've been patiently waiting (more like dying a painful wait of death) for episode 2 to come out, but there's no signs of it. Anyone know what happened to this series? IF it was in fact dropped, can someone else pick it up? I'd hate to see this series die. It looks like it's got tons of promise. Thanks ahead of time for the info. :)

I think it'll be wiser to ask this question at a2000a's site/channel/forum/etc. But from their record of releases, I think Getten is just a "trial" thing for them. Besides, the whole series (yes, all 22 episodes of it) has been subbed already years ago on tape, if you look hard enough, you can find digital versions of these on some file sharing networks.

I'm going to have to agree with what rayearth has said. Ask a2000a (#a2000a@aniverse) or Anime-Galaxy (#Anime-Galaxy@irc.Aniverse.com) if you want to know the answer to this question. We frown on questions like this on AnimeSuki because it comes much too close the the dreaded "when is the next episode" whinge.

We've just gotten some pretty absolute proof that A-G is still subbing Mamotte Shugogetten TV. Check the site page for episode 2!!
PS. I'm re-opening this thread now that there is actually something worth talking about. If you want to.

Thanks NoSanninWa! :) Wasn't trying to ask any silly or illegal questions. Just being overly curious. ;)
Since EP2 is out, I'm definately gonna download it...as soon as I figure out how to trick my ISP into letting me use BT again. :( Don't ask. Long story.
The show is ok, seems a bit like a Oh My Goddess rip off but hey, atleast they chose a good series to copy ^^

I agree, the story line seems a bit the same, but the style is quite nice, I 've just finished watching the oav's and I found it good. Hope some fansub group will carry on this one !
by the way :topicoff: Green Green rocks ;)

This is an old arguement, but I just can't help but say it again - Shugogetten does LOOK like a AMG/OMG clone, but it isn't. I won't compare it via the Anime since OMG doesn't have a TV series.
If you compare the Manga, OMG gets sidetracked by sidestories all the time and usually takes 1 or 2 full volumes before it gets back to the main plot. And when it does, it gets sidetracked by something else again in no time.
For Shugogetten, it is much better focused on the main plot. The story also always revolves around the already introduced and well developed characters instead of continously introducing new characters to fill in the gaps like what happens in OMG. The story also focuses more on the relationships between the characters instead of their adventures.
What I'm trying to say Shugogetten may seem similar to OMG, it's very different. If you prefer romance and character relationships over a story, you'll like Shugogetten more than OMG.

Hmm... Will there be anymore Mamotte Shugogetten on the site? And if so, will there be any more seeders? Seeders would be nice.

I don't think there's going to be anymore. The OVA pretty much ended it. It does leave some lose ends but this is traditional ending for most Japanese stories.
As to seeders, who knows. You can request for seeds but I think it's been over an year since the last group did this. I think someone asked the same think a few months ago (too lazy to run a search).
Good luck.
As far as I know only 3 episodes of this series has been subbed by [after 2000 anime]. If you wan't to know the subbing status on this anime please visit their irc channel or their website http://animesuki.com/group.php/62.html.

Interestingly enough, I picked up this entire series plus the OVA from somewhere, but hell if I remember where I got them from. But I do have all the episodes. I do also admit that it's quite a good series if not kinda wierd. :)
Let me hunt around and I'll see if I can find out who has it.
EDIT: Nope, can't find it on any of my anime bt pages. So unless box has it (and they're down hard) then I don't know what to tell you.

I have the entire series too but it's a lot better video/audio quality. This one is about 200% better than my old ones which were the original tape-sub from LD before digi-sub became popular.

Waiii! This is depressing!!
I have wanted this series for a few years now but could never find it! Then the other day I see it here, freak out and grab it! I just finished watching ep1 and.. although it is very weird I can't help but love it and definitly want more! T__T
Is Anime-Influx planning on continueing with the series? The other two groups only have up to episode03 done and they don't have any seeds.. :upset:
Also, would anybody happen to have the opening song? I really love it. ^^;

I don't remember anyone doing ALL the episodes other than the OVA's, even from the tape-sub days. Last I saw was some group in the NW USA had done the first 8 (e.g. they had "sponsors").
And yeah, this is a good - funny anime that doesn't dwell entirely on fanservice and fighting (not that either are bad ,. but after seeing Eiken 1 and 2 .. I've had enough for a few days)

I have the entire series (tape-sub) and the quality is soooooo bad compared to today's standards. I also hope A-influx finishes subbing it so I can chuck the old crappy copy. BTW, the old copy I have fits on one CD - all 26 eps.

2 Years ago... i get to know about this anime. I've got the Op and Ed around 1 year & 10 months ago... and until now... I don't even watch a single ep of it yet....
Reasons?
1. Couldn't download it as Seeders too few.
2. Wanted to buy its DVD but is not in the market anymore. (At my place)
3. In other to buy, I have to move to another state in my country to buy it...
4. Watching a FanSubs will spoil my mood into buying the anime...
Conclusion, because of me sturborness, I never get what i wanted even until now >_<

Why should watching the fansubs cool your interest in buying the dvd's? I watch fansubs and still buy the DVD's of the series I like most. ONly if a series is really bad do I not buy a series on DVD.

Hmm... is an easy question... one word explain it all.
"Spoiler"
There's not much fun there when you've already watch it and rebuy its DVD again for the sake of the series... besides, due to my Country Policy... Import DVD is very expansive... the Taxes is way to expansive to handle by some poor anime lover here... thats why is hard for the anime industry in my country to grow fast...
Only a few people knows about it... >_< how sad~
If i were to buy it in such a high price and that i couldn't enjoy it to the fullest then it'll be just a waste of money >_< might as well don't watch it till i buy it... well... maybe a couple of the episodes won't do much harm but sometimes is hard to resist it once you start... and sometimes you finish the entire series without noticing it that you're looking forward to own its DVD, and end up... losing interest in buying it... >_<
I believe some people might experience the same situation like me before...sigh~

Regarding Mamotte Shugogetten, we have successfully obatined all the raws for this very old series (1999). Translation is going well and you will see our work continue to pour through to the end of this show. My leader, Kaizuri, is placing greater priority upon this project due to its scarcity in the anime community. Frankly it is not my favorite project to date, but as an old school anime fan, I'm motivated to continue fullfilling my love for anime, by contributing an anime series from the good old days (before a sharp downturn in Japan's recession drastically affected the quality and quantity of the anime industry for the worse).
The OAV will not be translated by us. It has already been done by Miyuki no Tamari (MnT), formerly Miyuki-Fansubs. You may find information on them in the animesuki database as well.
I have great faith that the team's dedication towards this classic will pay off and enrich your love for anime in the sincere way it has for all of us at Influx.
P.S for those asking us about Hunter X Hunter TV, our progress on that project has been delayed significantly as LunarAnime had fired the encoder for HxH and broke the joint from us. We are currently looking for fansubbers of any kind to help out the current remaining staff on HxH TV. If you can provide your skills or resources to us, email Kaizuri at animeinflux@hotmail.com <----- the dummy account which everyone spams :D

No offence to you guys, but I just cracked up laughing when I read that. I got this picture of a bunch of martians running around saying "Take me to your leader!" for some odd reason. :D
I'll say this. I'm not about to let all those translations go to waste. We will finish this series, in some way or another.

Well, that is nice to know indeed.
I often think animesuki leechers and forum members live in a very self-centered and jaded perspective about fansubbing. Usually I post here with the presumption that most average leechers here don't give a damn, think we owe them free lunch, and feel that anything last season is "outdated." Perhaps there are some people here who have followed anime for a long time and think otherwise after all. ;)
We wanted to give each episode as much distro service as possible, so we rationed out the releases accordingly one per day, rather than bust a bunch and disappear for a long time. We've come out of the gate at a good pace and that's valuable momentum for the rest of us. The other episodes will come out (not daily, but) at a somewhat regular interval from here on. As I speak, we're working on episode 6.

Hiyas,
I just finished dowloading all 5 current episodes and was hooked from the start. Watched episode one, stopped it while i made a coffee, come back and 3 of the 5 episodes are unwatchable. Its like huge blocks cover the screen and you cant see whats happening and barely make out the subs :(
Im fairly new to Anime and Fansubbing, and a mate of mine said i might need some codecs or something, or a different player. I had a similar problem with another series i was given, and had to install some new stuff into media player 9, do i have to do that again? If so what are they, and where can i get them?
Ive tried downloading the episodes again, 3 times, but its still the same. Some advice please.
Many thanks in advance
Tal

Sorry to be a pain, but how do i take a screen shot, i thought it was a case of pressing the PrtScr button, and it would save to my desktop, but nothing happened, and i looked in the normal places. Me and computers dont get on very well hehe
Edit:
i downloaded a screen catcher program from the web, took the screen shot, but all it gives me is a black screen:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v378/theoldhermit/pic01.jpg
As you can see. What am i doing wrong?
Also i just upgraded to Media Player 10, but its still the same, ive unstalled the codec thing and reinstalled it, and its still the same. Also the same in Win Amp and Media Player Clasic, which also loses the subtitles for some reason.
Episodes effected are 2,3 and 5. 5 being the worst, which is is just a mass of blured images. Ill keep trying to get a screen shot.
Try using the ffdshow DirectShow filters (ffdshow.sourceforge.net), which is what I use for playback of anything recent these days.
I suspect that I'm using encoding settings that are different than what Ayanami uses (he encoded episode 4, I encoded 2, 3, and 5), and it's wrecking havoc on some people. I'll have to look into that.
- Perdita
P.S. I think someone posted something in these forums a long while back on how to take screenshots from video. I usually would do them from VirtualDub, but not everyone likes fighting VirtualDub....

im already running ffdshow, its one of the codecs i was given, along with acsound. Ill try looking for the screen shot guide and post it later.
Will there be another version of episodes 2,3 and 5? Since if there are plans to release another version ill wait for that. I've only had a computer for the past month and i dont like messing around with it to much untill i learn more about them.
I i cant watch anything in ffdshow, all i get is a configuration window, have i got the wrong thing?

Get the newest version of ffdshow from the website and install it. Set it up so that the decoder uses libavcodec for playback of XViD. Then, restart your player.

I can play eps 3 and 5 using ffdshow (the latest one 20040828).
You can download it here: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ffdshow/ffdshow-20040828.exe?download
As perdita already said you need to check a checkbox left to "XviD" while installing.
Two little hints:
Good ffdshow postprocessing settings for better video quality:
http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=20888
And the other thing, you were curious how to make screenshots. You can make screenshots with ffdshow, but thats very annoying to do, the better way would be to download another player. Then you can use hotkeys like "p" (bsplayer) or "alt+f" (zoomplayer) to make screenshots OR almost all other players than the Windows media player let you choose a option called "use VMR 9" (VMR = Video Mixing Renderer) and with this option enabled you can use the Print Screen key and it works.

I'm going to have to disagree with you im afraid. I love that most of the series we have here keep their original name.
For instance This Ugly and Beautiful World doesnt mean anything, but Kono Minikuku mo Utsukushii Sekai and Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien set the mood of the show. Titles hold a certain mystery and mejesty that comes accross all the more in their original form.
English is a very vulgar and brutal language, it holds only a few soft and meaningful words, where as languages like Japanese are full of them. Also the way they're pronounced carries alot of meaning.
Anyways, back on topic, loved the latest episode, though 7 was was better, it had me in fitsa of laughter all the way through.
Thanks to all the team that have put a lot of effort into doing this series, its much apreciated :D

I was getting worried since its b een a while since there was a release. We had 3 episodes in a week then nothing for close to 3 weeks. I was begining to think you'd dropped it or forgotten it. Thanks for releasing the episode, im really looking forward to the next one, from the preview it looks like a good one.
It was great to see Rouan take center stage for once. I love Shao, but always felt like Rouan was being left as filler. This episode put that to rights focusing more on her and putting Shao in the background for once.
Awsome work guys, many thanks!!!
*edit*
Whats the ending song that Shao sings called. I really want it!!! It's way better than the opening that i hated at first, but it's growing on me.

This is an important update on the status of Anime-Influx:
http://aflux.deltaanime.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=55&pid=1004&st=0&#entry1004
On an additional note, episode 11 will come out soon, but we'll be on downtime
for a short while after that. Our joint project with Anime-Faith on Memories Off 3.5 will continue throughout this period.

If you guys haven't noticed, we're off from our downtime temporarily to present you guys with more Mamotte Shugogetten. We hope you guys enjoy this episode; sorry for taking so long on this.
:uhoh:
I have just seen Ep 11, I think the series have been getting better over time.
This Ep is my favorite as Tasuke really matures and we can actually see Tasuke and Shao caring for each other .
Still downloading Ep 12... :naughty:

Just a heads up for people that you should consider stopping at just the point where the TV series ends.....it concludes the initial story quite well......but if you were to proceed to watch the OVAs as well, you better prepare yourself cause it leaves quite a bit of loose ends and doesn't really conclude anything.....
I guess that might be because even for the manga itself, the story is STILL no finished after SO many years......if I remember right the first volume of the first serie of the manga like almost 10 years ago, and they just brought out 2nd series of the manga (Mamotte Shugogetten: Reunion) like last year.....the release of the manga is soooo slow (like 1 volume a year T-T)....I honestly don't know what age I'll be at by the time the manga finish.

I think Ah! Megumi Sama is still going on as well. Something must be up with these Goddess Mangas.

Wow, this show surprised me.
It took an unexpected turn towards the romantic and serious stuff in the last few episodes.
Not to worry, the preview for the next episode looks like were headed back to the safe but boring land of slapstick sillyness...

*worships at the feet of the Anime Influx team*
3 episodes in a day, god must love me :)
Thanks alot for your hard work, MS is one of my all time fave anime, though i do have to agree the OVA just ends which is disapointing :(
And yes, never appologise for taking time off, RL always has the priority (unless your me in which case RL is the thing you avoid hehehe) Just glad you havent gone altogether.

In light of the rollback on animesuki, this is for repost's sake.
Anime-Influx has completed Mamotte Shugogetten on May 11th, 2005. The batch torrent for the series is at a.scarywater.net/a-flux, so get it while it's still seeded. We hope you'll enjoy this series as much as we have. :)
thanks for ur subs:)
but i meant if there were to be a nother season or somethin like that? =)

Wish they'd have finished the US manga release. T.T (not that I need the US manga, I've got all the Japanese manga :D ) It could have been pretty popular if more had gotten out.
Anyone catch the new version of Mamotte that just got released?
Very chibi looking compared to AMG look of the original.
This little guy fell under the wire. It wasn't listed anywhere and I got a glimpse as it was on a friends computer.

Did you happen to catch the title? I ran a search and didn't find anything new. Would love to check this out though. Any way you could ask your friend what the title is? Thanks. Cheers. :)
Hehe I'm shocked a Mod can't find it.
It's called
Denshin Mamotte Shugogetten
And it was released by
Hikari no Kiseki
Edit : Nevermind!!! It was a re-release of the 2003 OVA. Sorry.

Nothing was re-released. There was a mixup at another torrent site that I had to step in and clean up, which resulted in the file being relisted. It is the exact same torrent that was originally made several years ago. It is not an indication that we are picking up the series again, which is currently not a possibility (and somewhat moot since it has long been completed by other groups).
I believe AnimeSuki lists it as "Mamotte Shugogetten OVA" rather than "Denshin Mamotte Shugogetten".
