View Full Version : Suggestion for "Suggestions"

I've noticed that a couple of the more recent posts in the "Suggestions" forum were one-liners saying something along the lines of "Ok, what should I watch next?" [/slight exaggeration]
I think that there should be something [a rule?] that makes you add what type/genre you are looking for and past anime series you have liked.
If the rule is made, it shouldn't be too strict. Some people are just in a slump and need something new...
Still, it'd be nice.

Fully agree. I've been meaning to create a sticky along those lines and add it to the Sugestions forum.
It would simply ask people to either list series they have liked / disliked or supply a similar list of genres. There have been to many "Suggest a good anime" threads without a guideline as to just what the poster wants.

In that same vein... maybe a rule along the line of "Ask for suggestions of your desired genre in an enstablished thread?" or something like "Go through the old threads first and see if the answer you are looking for in buried in the bottom of the suggestion section."
The reason I say this is because I've posted quite a few suggestions (as far as I remember) and a few days later another similar thread gets started. It's rather annoying to post the same thing over again.

Nah. I am against that even though it seems to be an efficient way to handle things. Everyone deserves to be treated as though their tastes are unique and special. It is better when people get to feel that they are helping an individual find the anime that is right for him or her. There is no joy in recommending anime for a committee.
This way is much more fun and personal.
A lot of those posts seem to be people asking for "new" stuff to watch. And then of course people keep suggesting the same shows over and over again. Maybe there needs to be a sticky with the genres and a short description of the newer fansubbed shows, so that people can save their breath. Or a sticky with the most often recommended titles?

I know it's a little bit spammy, but maybe it's a good thing. If we don't know much about what the person has watched in the past we suggest a huge variety of good animes. More stuff for him to choose from and maybe he'll pick something that is not his usual style and get a taste of something different, but still good.
On the other hand ...
People always say "So ... what have you watched before? What do you usually like?", based on the reply they recommend something that may be more suitable for that person ;)
I really don't know what the right thing to do is, but a sticky giving at least some guidelines might not be too bad of an idea.
my 2 cents. ;)

I think a sticky which lists the most often recommended titles is a very good idea. Maybe divide the list up by genre too. A lot of people come in asking for action or romance anime specifically, so they could merely look on the reccommendations list and see the reccommended ones for their category.

Another usefull thing would be if those persons that make suggestions would add descriptions of the anime they like. Or at least tell what exactly they like about that anime
Many posts are just a random number of titles (I admit I do that too from time to time) so please add a 2 line description OR what appeals to you in this anime !

Absolutely! I always list a description for every show that I recommend. I feel that is important because otherwise there is no way for the querant to choose from among all the titles that are being presented.

It would also be nice if in this information/rules sticky a link to Anime-Planet's Recommendation List was included. There are many instances where a person's question on potential series can be answered via their site without them having to ever post on this forum.

Yes and no. While the site isn't bad it often conflicts with the anime I would recommend, the site is a good tool but should not become a replacement for the suggestions forum. Personally I love to read what others suggest, I allready found a few good anime I would otherwise have skipped... Most recent example I dropped Gilgamesh at first because of lack of story and bad art. but then somone suggested watching past ep 8 and he was right, the art remained but the story became great.

too impersonal though.
for some reason people keep reccomending this "immortal sisters" 3 ep OAV... anyone else (besides you-know-who) seen it? :heh:

If they're recommending that, their posts need to be cleaned or removed.

Lol, Immoral Sisters.
It is an ero-anime OVA. You can't get it at animesuki, anyway..
Not that I'd know where...
/me sighs.
However, those recommending that need to be dealt with...

Oddly enough, AnimeNFO lists ero-anime in with the rest of the anime. :heh:

What, you couldn't guess what it was about with just the title alone? I'm disappointed in you.
As for me, I'm definitely for putting descriptions next to recommended anime, even though that would end my days of jumping into a suggestions thread and shouting "EBICHU!!!".
With that out of the way, onto the next pressing topic at hand: the eradication of Melazoma's signature.
