This contain acts of SPOILERism! If you have not seen Seikai no Senki II / Banner of the stars II, "Back" away now! You have been warned...
==================================================

I thought I'd just get this off my chest...

Is there anyone other than me that thought the producers were particularly wicked in the way they handled the ending?

I mean the first episode starts with what appears to be a scene from the ending, with Jinto lying in a bed, seemingly dying, and Lafiel by his side, crying, with the voice over "farewell Lafiel". I thought "shit, this is going to end badly", thinking it would be one of those sad unexpressed-love-until-death endings. Then they hint at this in a few episodes with voice overs like "our last conversation" and so forth. Also in a later episode we learn that Abriels are not supposed to cry, so we'd understand that the situation shown in the beginning is a pretty bad one. To top that off there's the ending tune, "Farewell my love", which I could not interpret in any other way than a love song to a person that has left (i.e. died).

In retrospect, I don't mind that scene shown in the beginning and the crying part, but the "farewell Lafiel" voice over and the ending tune was outright wrong. I mean, there was no farewell of any kind at the end...?

Dammit... I even had trouble sleeping! :-)

Of course I did not know that there was more sequel novels when I was watching Senki II...

I felt exactly the same way. Including the trouble sleeping part :heh:

You get pretty attached to Jinta and Lafiel in the first two seasons and
hope to see them get closer in the third, and then they do THAT in the
first episode of the third season :frustrated:

Fortunately somewhere half-way through I realized "Wait-a-minute,
there is another novel after this, and Jinto is one of THE main characters."
Of course, that doesn't necessarily prevent a writer from killing such
a main character, but fortunately he didn't...

His recovery near the ending is a bit fast though.

Although I only got acquinted with it a few months ago (collected and watched
all DVDs in about 2 months time), it already is one of my all-time favorites.

Now the only problem is that the future looks a bit grim. Not only has SnS III
not yet been animated, afaik, there has been no news of a SnS IV or more in
novel format either...

There was an ending...what are you talking about...I think there was a little scene after the credits...where Jinta is talking to Lafiel...

It's a really nice scene too...lasted like 5 min.

I would spoil it, but it's def awsome...they gotta get the 3rd novel animated...NOW :p

PS I felt the same way...I watched the first two seasons (crest + banner 1) then watched Banner 2...and was like "WTF" so I gave up sleep to watch all 10 eps.

I wish I'd known that... then my nerves would've had it a bit easier time :)

:( I sure hope they animate the 3rd as well. I've gotten quite attached to those two, and the universe in general.

You mean when Jinto reads the poem at the end, right? Yeah, there was such an ending, but nothing even close to farewell, to anybody...

Well, that's also one way of doing it :)
I had to face the facts, and gave up after ep 6 at about one in the morning :(

What do you mean farewell? You mean the other people saying good bye to Jinto and Lafiel as they prepare to go to Jinto's homeworld? When they were in the places where the cats were, and everything? like after they quit the space forces right?

Ah, you meant that... ok.
I was referring to the "farewell, Lafiel" voice over in an early episode (might be in multiple ones, don't remember).

Well I suppose this "farewell, Lafiel" voice is the echo of his (last) poem he wrote on some wall on this planet. But to place this part of the end near the beginning is a good way to draw a sorrowfull atmosphere. If that scene wasn't shown, I'ld never had this odd and sorrowfull feeling when Jinto went down on the surface without Lafiel. I suppose this drawing of the future gave the whole story some bad omen, which made the overall mood of snsII much more interesting. The ending was good so, because it was telling the necessariy things without being too detailed... I like this because it lets you some space for your fantasy (and the next season).

i felt exactly the same way you guys did at the beginning of series 3. i bought all 3 series together and was watching them on overdrive (so good!). i got really attached to the 2 of them (still am), so 2 minutes into senki2 i had to walk away, got a drink of water and think about whether i should watch the series at all! back then i didn't know there was a 3rd seikai novel either! i've since read all the novels and love them! so much more detail, esp about the Abh people. does anyone know at all whether the 4th novels is in the works? i have no clue and i've tried looking around to no avail. please help!

i don't understand what you guys are saying about "farewell Lafiel". if you are referring to the last things Jint and Lafiel said in that "deathbed scene", it was (in Abh):
Jint: fafi kufena (kawaii denka - adorable highness)
Lafiel: oniu (baka - idiot)

i don't remember "farewell" at all.

*snip*
i don't remember "farewell" at all.

I don't recall which episode it was. Probably within the first 5 or so. As stated it was a voice-over in Jinto's voice and most probably an "echo" of one of the poems Jinto wrote while alone on the planet, as Jinto Lin wrote here above. I'm sure, however, that this "misdirection" was very intentional and intended to give the whole series an ominous feel. It was quite effective, and I hated it! :)

Jinto and Lafiel is definitely my favorite pair in anime. (that covers over 200 TV shows and 100 OVA/Movies)
So I watched the first 2 seasons in haste, but I took me almost forever to complete
the last 3rd season, because every episode in 3rd season had this doomed feeling
so I only watched one episode at a time, with a couple of days interval.

I know what you mean. ^^;; I love this series too, and when I saw the begining of Sekai no Senki II, it was a like bad premonition and it was so sad to see Jintoh in that condition. >_<;;

And then during the story when he decided to go down, I was like "noooo, don't go down!!" >_<

I have never been really attached to a character before, Jintoh and Lafiel are just special. I just cannot stop watching this series. ^^

Edit: I never read any of the novels before so, I tought he was really going to die, I was so devastated seeing him like that. :(

Sorry I know this is late. But I has a question to ask. I am sorta confuse. Did Jinto really dead, in the after credit there is another scene Jinto and Lafiel talking about going to Jinto home planet. My question is Did Jinto really dead or not?

Nah Jinto isn't dead.

By the way does anybody know if there's a way to get the novels in English? I've been dying to see what happens in the third novel but I can't exactly read much Japanese. I've got a Murakami book in English right here in my room so I know publishers are willing to pick up Japanese writers, but I'm not sure if they'd go for a sci fi series.
