Hello,
I am new here, so please forgive if I am doing this wrong.
I was wondering, is it useful if I post up pictures of the 3 different versions of rosario for "Mariasama ga Miteru". I now own all 3, and they are very pretty. (I actually own an extra rosario for Rosa Chinesis that I bought almost entirely from with my point card)
Just wondering,
Thanks!

Do you know how a rosario is used?
I will give you my own experience since many (if not all) of you are non-catholics A.K.A heretics :heh: :joke: actually im not a catholic...
The rosario is used to pray, well, the "rosario", when you pray the rosario you have to pray an "ave maría" ten times and the little balls are used to keep track of how many have you already prayed. After the 10 "ave maría" you recite one of the misteries, pray a "holly father" and then start again with the 10 "ave-maría". if you noticed it the rosary has five big sections separated by bigger balls, this big sections have 10 balls each (for the ave marias), there are five sections because there are five misteries per mistery's group
The misteries:
This is referred to the 15 misteries of Jesus separated in groups of five,
The glorious misteries.
The joyful misteries.
The dolorous misteries.
You recite one of these groups depending on the day ( I dont remember exactly which day wich misteries )
The five balls with the crucifix are used to pray a shortened version of the rosario.
My grandmother prays the rosario every single day, most true catholics do it.
I know there is a better word for "balls", anyone help me please?

It is also similar to how the Buddhist priests use their juzu to recite their gyous.

i am just curious? did budda made any miracles when he was alive ?As off topic a post as that is, which you seem to do quite frequently, the answer is simply - No. Miracles or Acts of God are more confined to western religions (Christian, Judeo and Islamic religions primarily), while they still exist in eastern religions just not to the same extent or definition. The Buddha did not perform any miracles, he simple attained enlightenment by purifying himself and teaching others that path. The following is the much abridged history of the first Buddha:
Siddhartha Gautama, known as the Buddha, was born in the sixth or fifth century B.C. in what is now modern Nepal. His father, Suddhodana, was the ruler of the Sakya people and Siddhartha grew up living the extravagant life of a young prince. According to custom, he married at the young age of sixteen to a girl named Yasodhara. His father had ordered that he live a life of total seclusion, but one day Siddhartha ventured out into the world and was confronted with the reality of the inevitable suffering of life. The next day, at the age of twenty-nine, he left his kingdom and newborn son to lead an ascetic life and determine a way to relieve universal suffering.
For six years, Siddhartha submitted himself to rigorous ascetic practices, studying and following different methods of meditation with various religious teachers. But he was never fully satisfied. One day, however, he was offered a bowl of rice from a young girl and he accepted it. In that moment, he realised that physical austerities were not the means to achieve liberation. From then on, he encouraged people to follow a path of balance rather than extremism. He called this The Middle Way.
That night Siddhartha sat under the Bodhi tree, and meditated until dawn. He purified his mind of all defilements and attained enlightenment at the age of thirty-five, thus earning the title Buddha, or "Enlightened One". For the remainder of his eighty years, the Buddha preached the Dharma in an effort to help other sentient beings reach enlightenment.
One should note that in Tibetan Buddhism he is known as the Buddha Shakyamuni and his name varies to some extent depending on the version of Buddhism being taught and practiced.
I will give you my own experience since many (if not all) of you are non-catholics A.K.A heretics :heh: :joke:You know... You're now the fourth person to call me a heretic. Although your claim was meant as a joke, I can't say the same about the previous three. :heh:
Gokigenyou; go ahead. Post some images of the three rosario. I'd be curious to see them, as I'm sure others are too. I have a rosario, have never used it since I'm not nor have ever been a Catholic, and I'd like to see if they're any different.

I prefer the cross on the rosario marked (C). It seems to fit the overall look of the rosario much better.

Those are pretty, my grandmother and my aunts would love them! As long as they don't know from which program they've come from :heh:
Here the rosario (I mean the necklace) is called "camándula" I can't believe I'd forgotten that, my grandma lectured me about the use of the camandula when I was 10 or 12 years old. She also has a short camandula that you use in your finger as if it was a ring.
Oh I'd forgot that after the "holly father" and the mistery you say "glory to the father, the son and the holly spirit".

Nice photos.
Given the previous images, I was expecting something a bit more ornate as far as the boxes were concerned. Still, quite nice.

Yes. Animate sells each rosario for 9240 en (8800 en + 5% tax)
Note: Buying 3 rosarios from Animate gives you enough stars on your point card to redeem for 1000 en against future purchase.

That's why I chose not to buy it - if I was going to pay that much, I could rather buy similar-looking rosario from a gaijin street seller in Roppongi. At least I can haggle on a price there.
Added to the fact I could buy three ero-games for if I were to buy those three rosarios...
Why spend close to 10,000 yen on something that is most likely Made in China, when you can find a nice DOLCE&GABBANA or Chromehearts rosario for around 13,000 yen (if you know where to look)?

I can find camandulas here as cheap as $2000 pesos, that's less than a dollar. If I want a really nice one it would be around $50000 pesos which is roughly 20 dollars. Of course no real jewerly, those would cost millions :)

Is Animate the only people to sell these rosaries? Do they sell to America? I'd really like to get the Rosa Foetida one.
Iv'e been checking Animaxis for Mari-mite goods, so far they only have the cards available...
*sigh* Wow, this rosary would be the ULTIMATE collectors item for me....

I've been wondering this about the rosaries...
You give your rosary to the person who becomes your petite soeur, right? Well, wouldn't that mean the grande soeur is left without one, while the youngest has two? Or does the grande soeur keep the one that her graduated onee-sama gave her?
Also I wonder if the rosaries get passed down from one person to the other... is the rosary Sachiko gave Yumi the same one that Youko gave her?
Since the rosaries you bought say only "Rosa Gigantea," "Rosa Foetida," and "Rosa Chinensis," I really wonder which of those rose families it belongs to :\ . I don't think it is the grande soeur, because I recognize the one for Rosa Foetida as being the rosary Yoshino gives back to Rei.

OMG I've never actually thought about it :twitch: you are right! thats some sort of inconsistency, probably explained in the novel but I've never read them :(
I made the mistake of asking my grandma the use of the rosary to confirm what I'd posted earlier, and she went as far as to buy me a "camandula" and the instructions about the rosario = = Now she expects me to pray it every day, and the "grandma, actually im no catholic" answer wont do any good.
If you are the kind of fan that would actually pray this, ( that would be scary to be honest :heh: ) here I post the complete instructions
1. Made the sign of the cross ( you know, the "in the name of the father, the son and the holly spirit" )
2.pray the "Credo"
3. pray a holly father
4. three "ave Marias"
5. Say out loud the first mistery, pray a holly father and TEN ave marias and a "glory to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit".
6: according to these instructions you pray the prayer of the Virgin Mary of Fatima, but thats not necessary, is some add-on that honestly I don't like.
7. After you had finish anouncing the five misteries you pray a "salve".
8. Pray to Saint Michael Archangel :twitch: What the...? this is an add-on too! I hate it.
9.Final prayer :twitch: ? another add-on ignore it
10. do number 1. again :D
The misteries.
joyful misteries (mondays and saturdays):
-The annunciation.
-The visitation.
-The birth of Jesus.
-The presentation.
-The lost and found Child.
Dolorous misteries (tuesdays and fridays):
-The prayer in the orchard.
-The flagellation.
-The coronation with thorns.
-Jesus with the cross on His back.
-The crucifixion and death of Jesus.
Glorious Misteries (Wednesdays and Sundays):
-The resurrection.
-The ascension of the Lord.
-The coming of the Holly Spirit.
-The asuncion of the holly Virgin.
-The coronation of our Lady.
Here it says that the misteries of light the thursdays  this is just plainly wrong, im going to complaing with my grandma, there is no such "light" misteries, are you kidding me? I hate this stupid modern add-ons, the old (more like creepy and terrible :heh: ) catholic church is much more cool to me.

Now that you say it Sharkbark... :hmm:
Also I wonder if the rosaries get passed down from one person to the other... is the rosary Sachiko gave Yumi the same one that Youko gave her?
Well, i don´t know the novells but I would say yes.
I do not think they have multiple copies or specific Rosarios for the "en boutons" or "petite soeurs" for example.
If they have multiple copies I would think that it is a bit unromantic.
For me their Rosarios are something like a family heirloom imparted over more then one generation of roses.
An older rose have to give it up to show her esteem and love for her "petite soeur".
Like mothers sometimes passing on their marriage veils to their daughters when they marry.
So I believe that Yoshino, Shimako and Yumi are the only ones possessing "special" Rosarios.
The other roses IMHO own "private" ones.
Maybe next time somebody here is rewatching it he should take a close look at the Rosaries :) . If it can be seen at all.

I had to search for a lot of words in my dictionary. I hope my text is understandable :uhoh: .

At the beginning of the student's first year of high school, the students receive a school medallion (different from the rosario).
The rosarios are passed down from "sister" to "sister" (usually from "en bouton" to "petite soeur"), and are not exclusive to just the Yamayurikai.
Remember, when Yoshino returned her rosario to Rei, it caused quite an incident around the school, where alot of girls were returning their rosarios back.
As for the actual origination of the rosarios in the first place.... I have no idea.
This does raise a few questions...
1.) Does each year have the same number of students? (that way, X # of students will pass on X # of rosarios to X # of younger students).
2.) What happens if a school year has more students than the one before.... Do they need to make a new rosario?
3.) If a student with a rosario graduates without having passed on the rosario, does she get to keep it?
Oh well, back to watching anime!
Gokigenyou
^
1.) No, not quite. Any school will have a fluctuating population unless the school has a specified population quota when it reaches capacity.
2.) There will be some students who will find their soeur, but based from Tsutako's explanation why she did not want to find her own, although this custom isn't compulsory, nevertheless IMHO I think most students will do this out of a need to "complete" anything before graduating.
3.) It's up to the decision of the graduating student possessing the rosary whether she could hand it over to a successor or not, but IMHO she'll give it to her kohai out of tradition.
According to the light novel, it is not known when the custom of exchanging rosaries started.

I started hunting back thru the novels, and then remembered the Italy trip and Yoshino shopping for a rosario.
When you give your new soeur a rosario, it can be any rosario. It does not have to be the rosario that you yourself received, though it is usually the case.
Yoshino at first did not want to give the rosario she received from Rei to anyone, hence why she was shopping for a rosario while in Italy, but later decides that she probably would want to give the rosario she received from Rei to your petite soeur that she cares for.... whenever she finally gets one.

Yes during the trip to Italy Yumi and Yoshino talk talk about the rosarios. Rei bought Yoshino's especially for her. So Rei still has the rosario that she was given by Eriko. Yoshino thought about buying a new one but in the end decides to find a soeur she is willing to give Rei's rosario to.
Noriko has the rosario that Sei gave to Shimako so that one has been passed down.
Yumi has the rosario Sachiko gave her but we don't know if it is the one Youko gave Sachiko or if Sachiko bought a new one. Yumi says in OAV 5 she only knows that it wasn't specifically bought for her. She wonders to herself if Sachiko bought it for Shimako. I personally think it is the one Youko gave Sachiko. I believe Yumi plans to pass it to her future soeur.
All soeurs at the school give their petite seour either a new or a passed down rosario, although I don't think we have seen one from anyone else.
