Oh ya, You have not been warned about the huge-ass pictures. Give negative rep for complaints, I welcome them :D.

Am I the only person that's been following this gem of a manwha?

Lets me summarize what this series is about... copied from the website(http://www.comicsone.com/manga/now/)

The legendary “Killing Art” of Sashinmu resurfaces and a mysterious cadre is hell-bent on claiming it from the few warriors charged with destroying the art before it can fall into the wrong hands. Our protagonists, Rin Yhun and Bi-Ryu find themselves at the heart of an age-old conflict. Rin is the daughter of a Sashinmu practitioner and Bi-Ryu is the grandson of the infamous North Star. After being driven to a state of madness by completing the art of Sashinmu, North Star slew over 100 fighters and then was mysteriously murdered.

United by fate, Rin and Bi-Ryu must decide, should the secrets of the Sashinmu be destroyed, or should they be mastered once again? Joined by Bi-Ryu’s tiger-girl companion, they plunge into the blood-soaked legacy their ancestors have left for them.

NOW is an exciting martial arts rollercoaster ride. It cleverly incorporates elements of Korean mythology, action and heart-warming themes, which appeal to the growing legions of manga fans. The action in NOW is beautifully rendered, and the relationships, which develop between the characters, are equally fascinating. NOW will take your breath away and leave you on the edge of each page. Sung-woo Park melds magic, martial arts and mystery for a stunning epic drama in NOW!.

This kinda sells it for me! Is it really like this? Is there some intellectual value in this show? (because it kinda reminds me of NGE).

Let me know because I happen to have 2 Borders gift cards I haven't used yet :)

I'm happy to answer any question you and anyone else might have for this series!

I don't want to spoil too much but you can see this series as having two main leads and it's told following these two most of the time.

First is

Bi-Ryu
http://free.one.picturehost.co.uk/now01.jpg

He is the one who holds the secrets to the martial arts, Sashinmu and he led a rather harsh life and one day he met a legendary man... he decided that the only way to cleanse this world of murderers, he'd have to become a Sa-Shin(God of Death). He meets up with Rin(a rather goofy yet caring girl) and begins to change.

Yu-Se
http://free.one.picturehost.co.uk/now3.jpg

Yu-Se is a good natured man who believes that a martial arts as strong as Sa-Shin-Mu should not exist in the world. He begins as a man with no ability, no power. He learns the hard way the way the world really is, cruel and unforgiving. While Bi-Ryu might be more of your typical hero Yu-Se walks the border between good and evil in order to atain the power to change the world.

While NGE is very out there in terms of all the religious symbolism, NOW stay in the topic of human nature... there is really good character development in NOW. Not to mention there's alot of comedy mixed with all the action. Safe to say, I recommend this manga without a hint of hesitation. :D

Oh ya, I suggest reading up to at least 3-4 volumes before giving judgement :D

It's too bad this manga is being published backwards (left-to-right). I've wanted to check this out but I really hate supporting backwards released manga, and a lot of manga lately are getting re-released properly these days so I might just wait.

Actually this is a Korean manga and it was originally made to be read left-to-right(I'm fairly certain unless I've completely lost my memory) so there won't be a re-release. So I'd say there's no point in waiting, check it out now :D.

Oh ya, since this series comes from Korea, I should call it Manwha, not manga.

Yup Yup, it's good stuff. It seems a few of the members have started to read it already! Which I think is great :D

I failed to mention before, they have some sample pages you can read at http://www.comicsone.com/manga/now/ if you're really skeptical.

I say you should just go down to your local Waldenbooks(their manga/manwha section is growing each day, it's quite huge already) or borders and read a bit of it yourself! I mean there's only 3 volume out at the moment so at 10 bucks each, it's kinda like buying 1 anime dvd :heh:

Oh and there is actually a series that came before NOW which was called "Chun Rang Yer Jehn"(it sounds better if you know korean) and it's the story of Rin and sister's parents and their story which is also quite good. Unfortunately it hasn't been translated but with your support of NOW, I'm sure they will pick it up as a prequel. So go out and support some good Manwha :heh:

3 Volumes are currently out and there are currently up to 13 out in Korea and still going. (Thanks to Key for update :D)

It's got very good action, alot of comedy and a bit of romance(not too much but the subliminal relationships are there and growing each volume) :D.

What I like about the romance in this series is that it's not one of those "HOLY CRAP I JUST MET YOU AND I'M TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH YOU!!!" It's a gradual thing as they experience many things together and overcome hardships while supporting each other which I think makes more sense.

Rin supports Bi Ryu in a way that tames Bi Ryu's murderous nature while Ran acts as a witness(for lack of a better term) to Yu Se's change as he starts to turn his back on what is right to gain power. It's a nice balance that will become apparent as the next few volumes are released... Safe to say, there are massive amounts of character developments in this manwha(I should know, I've read up to volume 11 in korean :p I just collect it in english so I can show more people). I can't waittttt for volume 4. It's gonna be crazy :heh:

Hey Slade, mind telling us a bit more about the manga? I've read volume 1-2 previously and my interest is piqued. Character designs are simple but beautiful. Who's Ran?

My fave character is Yu Se. -_-

Spoiler for those you who have not read volume 3 and it goes a bit deeper into Yu Se's character.

Ran is the character you see at near the end of volume two. She's Rin's older sister. Unlike Rin who is a bit goofy and easy-going Ran is very calm and collected and her skill with a sword is far greater than Rin's.

Heh, it's interesting that you would take a liking to Yu Se this early on in the manga considering he hasn't done much but never fear, he'll take the spotlight from Bi Ryu and his crew in volume 3 and go further into detail about his character and motive in the 4th volume.

Yu Se is an interesting character because he's a person that starts out with a single goal to destroy Sa-Shin-Mu(God of Death's Marital Arts) but with the twist of events he becomes involved in a quest to become strong... that way he would make everyone bow before him... so that he would never be betrayed again.

"What moves the world... is power" -Yu Se.

Later on in the series Yu Se gains not only the skills of the god of death but of many different world renowned arts by using his new found skill to drain another's energy and make it his own. As he gains their skills/powers he also starts to change from a good natured man into a person that will not allow anyone to stand in his way. During all this, the only person that can reason with Yu Se is Ran who remains by his side in the beginning not because she wants to but because she has no other reason.

I'm glad you find this series interesting as I do and I suggest you go pick up volume 3 which is out now(Yu Se on the cover) :D. Volume 4 should be released in a few months as well, I'll be sure to post exactly when, when I have the date.

Ok this was the selling point for me! :heh: I'm so easily pursuaded like that! :bash:

Well after Slade-san's notable and incessant promotion of the manhwa NOW! (just look above me!), I decided to pick it up during my monthly rounds at Walden's. (they love me there :D) It was either NOW or Angel Sanctuary...to all Yuki fans, I know... what was I thinking!? But I trust my sempai's judgment, so I bought it. :)

Read the first 2 volumes and was quite impressed. These are the kind of comics that make me realize why I love manhwa. The art is simple yet beautiful, the action is awesome (Bi-Ryu looking all cool-like), originality, and the characters are interesting, if not funny! Rin is so cute! ^_^ And I like the historical/mythological background to it. (One of the reasons I enjoy reading Ragnarok). I'll have to read it a bit more to be able to put it up there with Demon Diary, REbirth, and Ragnarok, but I'll definately be checking this one out. No doubt this will be a series I'll come to love as I read more. I'm a sucker for these kind of comics...lots of action/comedy with a hint of romance!

Thanx Slade-san for getting me into another series. :D (The list grows!)

And shelling out an additional 10 bucks every month. The Walden ppl will be so happy! :heh:

Damn , went to the local comic book store and they dont have vol 3 yet. Guess it'll take some time to come over here -_-.

Yu Se was the most intr char in vol 1 after all. He was an altruistic guy who got backstabbed by his fellow disciple and then went a bit mad at the end of vol. 1 when he realised he was still alive. Gotta love the scene where he laughs out loud by himself

Hmmm, how did Yu Se and Ran meet anyway? And what reason does she have eventually for sticking close to him? And can Ran beat Yu Se?

They'll have it at borders and waldenbooks only, the new ones are exclusively sold there :D.

Info on Yu Se and Ran's relationship

Ran is certainly much, much stronger than Yu Se in the beginning. Yu Se is just a regular joe compared to the likes of Bi Ryu(who is insanely strong in his Sa-Shin state). Yu Se's power will grow not only because he learns the same art as Bi Ryu did but he gains different energy force/types from various masters. No matter how strong Sa-Shin-Mu is, without the inner energy to use it , it's fairly useless.

I won't spoil what happens in volume as you'll most likely get that soon but I'll dig deeper into the future. Yu Se sticks with Ran because he's the only person that can loosen the binds that holds her so she could move around. Without Yu Se to undo those binds every few hours, she would be unable to move.

So Ran has no choice but to stay with Yu Se so he would undo her binds from time to time. In the beginning she stays with him just for that reason but their relationship grows as Yu Se's kindness grows on Ran. But Yu Se's kind nature starts to disappear as he gains more and more power. Yu Se, a person that was not willing to kill people before starts ending lives for the sake of revenge without any remorse.

As Bi Ryu changes his ways from a god of death to a more gentle person, Yu Se starts to become a murderer from his kind nature. And Ran is the only person that he seems to care about(even risk his life to save at times... although it's funny because I think Ran saves Yu Se just as often). It's because that Ran's there to bare witness is the reason why Yu Se doesn't completly mad with power and go on a killing rampage.

In volume 4, which is one of my favorite volumes out of the 11 I've read introduces the true master of Sa Shin Mu, and the Heaven Mountain Stance. Truly awesome to see Rin&Ran's parents in action

I tried to put as little specific detail in there as possible because I didn't want to ruin the storyline completely. You really need to read volume 3 because it's all about Ran and Yu Se and barely on Bi Ryu and Rin.

and when did comics one licence this

Comicsone licenced NOW July 30, 2003 and the first issue was released September 2003. Looking at the pattern it looks like a new issue is released every 2-3 months. Gah!! So long isn't it? I think one of the problems is that NOW is considered one of comicsone's side projects instead of it's main ones and it's taking translation bloody long.

I'm hoping with better sales they'll speed things up a bit. Volume 12 was released in Korea not too long ago so they've still got alot to tranlate.

It seems alot of the borders and waldenbooks don't have volume 3... that's odd considering when I goto the book store I see 1,2, and 3 all there and in borders only a bunch of copies of 3(I'm hoping 1,2 are sold out :D).

Oh, if you're interested in any of the other manwha series Park Sung Woo has written, here's a link that lists all the manga he's made... it's a bit out of date. Maybe 1-2 Volumes off.

click comic.b on the topright(the site is in korean)

I've read the first 2 manwhas listed there and of course the fifth which is "NOW"

The second one you see is the prequel to "NOW" which deals with Rin&Ran parents. Hopefully they'll pick that series up as well.

The first one listed there is another favorite of mine called "Zero" it deals with people with ESP. I doubt it willbe brought over anytime soon as it has some nudity and sexual situations(too bad :D).

I’m pretty generous when it comes to manga (or manhwa), and even though I was tempted to read it critically because of all the fuss you’re making, I didn’t.
Here are just my thoughts, ole?

It seems alot of the borders and waldenbooks don't have volume 3... that's odd considering when I goto the book store I see 1,2, and 3 all there and in borders only a bunch of copies of 3(I'm hoping 1,2 are sold out :D)
As a true manga lover, I set out to buy all three volumes, at Borders, but curiously enough they didn't have 1, only 2 and 3. I could still understand everything though.

Thoughts!
It took me reading until the end of volume 2 to realize what was so great about this Korean manga, and I was really starting to think you were overreacting, but turned out I was wrong. The plot twists around brilliantly, so that every turn of events serve a greater purpose for the basic plotline. This is especially true in volume 3, where all the minor incidents of the previous volume start to build up suspense into an intricate web of relationships and events that will leave you sitting at the edge of your chair in excitement.

Not as much mythology or intellectual content as I would’ve liked, or as I hoped from reading your first post, but I guess all the magic, martial arts, and mystery make up for it. The characters are charismatic, including some of the "enemies". Best of all, they’re highly original and thankfully escape the stereotypical anime roles that we otakus see repeated over and over, which bores me to death.
I also liked to see some significant female influence in the story. There’s nothing more satisfying than dominant female fighters in a martial arts story, and I was delighted at how Ran proved to be a great match for the male protagonist, and how the mother of demons’s amazing power prevailed during a major part of the last scenes.

This may seem trivial but the girls’ outfits were really cute  somehow it means a lot to me

You already know how much I like Ghun…Yu-se was for a time my favorite…I was starting to like him a LOT until he starting going on about how
he wants to make the world bow to him and all that.
So I definitely don’t like that side of him.
All things considered, Ghun is my favorite! She’s just really appealing to me…Now what exactly were you thinking of when you said there’s more to her than meets the eye?

Not as much mythology or intellectual content as I would’ve liked, or as I hoped from reading your first post, but I guess all the magic, martial arts, and mystery make up for it.

Yu-se was for a time my favorite…I was starting to like him a LOT until he starting going on about how
he wants to make the world bow to him and all that.

So I definitely don’t like that side of him.

Nothing gets past your critical thinking! It's almost eery the way you analyze things so well :D.

Guilty as charged, this manwha won't make you rethink the way you think about life but it's "hella entertaining" as my friend would say. There's history value as some of the characters you see in the manwha are based off legends of the past. North Star among others plays a central role in the story's backbone as he founded Sa-Shin-Mu.

Your point about Yu-Se is very reasonable because he seems as though he's going off the deep end but considering

He's been betrayed by his own brother and almost killed then only survived because he has himself betrayed his master's last wishes(by learning Sa-Shin-Mu himself) I can see why he would change so drastically.

Oh, and they did a mistranslation in volume one. He survived the fall off the cliff only because his dead brother's body broke his fall.

Volume 1

"MY second brother! You said I shouldn't live. You said that death is the only thing that will bring me happiness. Then why is it that you've saved me?(refering to him breaking his fall)"

That's how it should be but ah well.

Volume 3

"My reason wanting to become strong...is to make everybody in this world kneel before me! And in doing so, I'll never have to taste betrayal ever again..."

His smile shows his happiness of gaining power while his tear shows how he feels sad about turning his back on what he believed so dearly in.

IMO, Yu-Se is an absolutely facinating character more so than Bi-Ryu.

Bi Ryu learns to contain his rage and find his reason to fight while figuring out if killing murderers is really the way to make this world a better place.

Yu Se is constantly balancing what is right and wrong as his percpective on reality changes with each conflict. He learns every lesson this cruel world has to offer the hard way and the way he reacts to everything is quite original.

wheww... that was a big rant about Yu Se.

Oh... and about Ghun I stand by what I said before "She's more than meets the eye" and no, I'm not going to tell you what because that would ruin one of the most fantastic scenes in the series! :D

I'm very glad everyone is enjoying this manwha as I haven't gotten one negative feedback about it. Feel free to discuss the manwha and ask questions as I will do my best to answer your questions. :)

Straying a bit off the topic at hand, I think it's worth noting that there are 13 volumes out in Korea right now.

13! Crap! I need to go down to the korean rental place :D. I've only read till 12. Thanks for the update.

I went to the local comic shop yesterday *cough* only one around that's 30 minutes away *cough* and I saw the 1st and 2nd volume there, they only had one copy of volumes 1 & 2, volume 2 was hiding in the wrong section too! And out of the many shelves of manga (or whatever you wanna call it) there were, I got both of them! I've never heard of it before, and then today I look and here's a thread on it ^__^

Great pics! *saves them to the desktop*

I thought it didn't look like a Japanese manga to start with, so it wouldn't surprise me if they were Korean, that's what I was thinking without even knowing anything about them O_o;

"Chun Rang Yul Jun." I dunno what it means though because they're written in Chinese characters. ^^; The first character is the one for "heaven" but it loses me after that.

I believe it should be avalible in other places around june or so but if you can't find it at stores you can buy it online at Amazon.com. They have people you can buy from fother people listed in the amazon directory for $6.95(factory sealed). I bought one of those back when I couldn't find a copy of vol 2 and it was in very good condition.

NOW VOL 3 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1588993299/qid=1083626094/sr=8-4/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i4_xgl14/102-1089657-0537746?v=glance&s=books&n=507846)

The prequel of NOW doesn't have an american name and in Korean it's called "Chun Rang Yer Jehn". It deals with Rin&Ran's parents and is also a very good read.

It does a decent job, not the best but it's Accurate with the names as they will seem awkward to non-asian readers. The content is done well, but there are a few mistranslations here and there that I've pointed out in the past. It's highly readable though.

mind if I do some more (healthy) discussing? :)

I like to call it "free-thinking". (brainstorming for no particular reason except the fun of it)
He's been betrayed by his own brother and almost killed then only survived because he has himself betrayed his master's last wishes(by learning Sa-Shin-Mu himself) I can see why he would change so drastically.

Oh, and they did a mistranslation in volume one. He survived the fall off the cliff only because his dead brother's body broke his fall.

Yu Se is constantly balancing what is right and wrong as his perspective on reality changes with each conflict. He learns every lesson this cruel world has to offer the hard way and the way he reacts to everything is quite original.

wheww... that was a big rant about Yu Se.
Whats this?? Am I seeing some interesting questions of ethics and morality here? hey hey let's talk about this. I still have my hopes for intellectualism in NOW :thinker:
See why we tend to like Yu-Se more than Bi-Ryu? As you explained above, there's an alluring insight surrounding his personality and his motivations.
You said that:
Yu Se is constantly balancing what is right and wrong as his perspective on reality changes with each conflict. He learns every lesson this cruel world has to offer the hard way and the way he reacts to everything is quite original.
His character exploits morality and the vulnerabilities of human nature, as well as the complexity of human nature (I hate to use the word *human*...think human in a spiritual sense, deeper than physical abilities pls) . The audience watches in perplexion as he fluctuates between *good* and *evil*, with mentalities so contrasting that it's almost paradoxical. I haven't seen much of his "other" side, but his good side alone was enough to impress me. He had some sudden comical notions that made him orginial, like you said, and pleasurably unpredictable. I'm too lazy to go look for examples, but I could see random personality traits in him ... How can I explain it? It was great to watch him. I guess the reason I don't like Rin so much is that she's quite the opposite: she's supposed to be the cute, funny and goofy girl and she fulfills that role precisely. See how because of that she's not unpredictable, intriguing or complex? Because of Yu-Se's ambiguous ethics, his character is thought-provoking and because of his inconsistent nature, he's charismatic. THe most exciting parts IMO were parts he was in.

I better stop here otherwise this post's gonna become one of those that people skip over for being too long :eyespin:

Yea, I totally agree that Yu Se is a character based on human nature. I like the way he's all serious at one point and turns all chi-bi and goes AYEEE-YE!!! Like a child(like the time he first finds Ran).

Bi Ryu though is hands down one of the coolest characters I've seen though. He has the mentality of a little child, as innocent and as cruel and unforgiving as well. When volume 4 comes in you'll get to see the stars of the prequel of "NOW" in action :D.

Indeed Bi-Ryu is cool because of his nature--so cold, and yet so innocent. Makes for a perfect "God of Death." But I have to say that Yu-Se is a character I like the most because he's, as stated before, more realistic. Someone who struggles with internal conficts, and yet can still be comical. :D

the anime 'slade' looks really good, but unfortuanely, i'm a kid with no credit card, and the manga isn't for sale in england for another 2 years, as the uk is slow on catching onto the anime market.

i would like to ask, which country this anime is based in?
i have made 2 guesses

China or Korea, because of the sword designs that Rin wields, and the name sashinmu, which sounds exactly like the pronuciation for the words death, god and dance, in chinese mhich means death god arts.

Great pictures Kaoru-Chan :D Although to make a bit of correction, there's no picture of Ran in there, those are all of Lunar Ice when she was young. Ran looks very much like cold/pissed off Lunar Ice though.

Here's some information on the background of "NOW" that you should know from the prequel.

A good thing to note is that the Heaven Moutain Sword stance was created by a master swordswoman that was in love with North Star. Her feelings for him were never returned and devoid of love and emotions, she was able to create the "Heart-Less Stance" which is the stance Ran is most familiar with.

Lunar Ice, the student of the swordswoman that created the Heart-Less Stance also learned that which she could use by devoiding herself of any emotions so she could channel her inner energy into an absolute zero sword stance that can cut anything.

When she meets O'Rang Yhun she started to feel differently even when she does not want to and she was able to create a stance on her own that was stronger of the 2 stances of the Heaven Moutain Skills based on a specific emotion rather a lack of.

Also another background information is Bi-Ryu and O'Rang Yhun's Silver hair. Both of their hair were black until they got to a certain point in their mastery of Sa-Shin-Mu and their inner life force changed to survive the extreme physical strain of using the Sa-Shin-Mu puts on the body.

Interesting tidbit on the origin of the stances.

Just out of curiousity, what is the name of the prequel?
I realize it's the backdrop to the NOW storyline, but is it important that I should read it?
Or does NOW refer back to the prequel?
Did I ask that right? :uhoh:

It's called "Chun Rang Yer Jehn"

O'Rang Yhun before He masters Sa-Shin-Mu(no silver hair)
http://free.one.picturehost.co.uk/chunrangyerjehn.jpg
The red writing says that in Korean.

Well, I'd say you'd enjoy "NOW" even more if you have read the prequel because you would be more involved with it's world and the characters in it. It's safe to that many of the characters from the prequel make dynamic entries into "NOW" and it's just awesome to see how they've grown older.

When volume 4 comes out and you see the two main characters from the prequel in action with their immense strength, you'd say "awww shit" because you know how they were from the very beginning(O'Rang makes Bi-Ryu's Sa Shin Mu look like Tae Bo while Lunar Ice makes Ran's sharp swordswomanship look like plastic butter knife trying to cut a rock :D).

There are a few important figures you haven't seen yet that was a main factor in the prequel like O'Rang's brother who is known as the greatest swordsman in the world.

Not to mention all of Chun Rang Yer Jehn is finished so you can read it all if you can find it translated somewhere(if you do, let us know).

NOW refers back to the past here and there but it almost assumes that you've read the the prequel... Park Sung Woo likes to drive the plot without stopping at all as you might've seen so far.

You can read "NOW" without having read the prequel and still enjoy it greatly but it's even more entertaining to read having read the prequel.

I was wondering who this guy was when I was looking for pics. I had noticed the scar on his left jaw, but I thought different when I saw his hair. (now it makes sense since he decided to go for a makeover :D) Oh! hope to see Bi-Ryu before he changed too, although he looks so much cooler now.

Bi-Ryu doing Tae Bo?!

From your analogy they sound very much to be feared with that kind of power! :heh:

I see. I'd like to get ahold of the prequel and read it! Too bad there aren't any translated scans out there (I looked). Maybe the same people who scanned Zero will think of picking it up. Maybe. If not to read it and familiarize myself with the awesome characters, but for more of Park Sung Woo's lovely art! :D

I enjoy NOW already as it is, I just wanted to know if it could stand alone without having missed out on much of the story from the prequel. ^_^

I got the second volume today. They had one copy of volume 1 and 2. None of three. ;_; But they had at least 5 each of 1 and 2 when I was in there last weekend, so sales seem to be doing fairly well. I guess I'm just going to have to order volume three.

Really neat wallpapers and pics all. Thanks!

Does anybody know if this is finished or not?

If so, how many volumes are there?

If not, what volume is the latest?

This manwha series is currently still running at 13 volumes out so far in Korea and 3 out in America. A new volume is released every few months. I'll update this thread with release dates of the American volume of 4 when I have it.

Oh ya, Dranz's warning has been noted and I'll do with the urls for the larger images next time :D

Man, I just read Vol 3 and the ending has left me wanting Vol. 4 -_-

Hmmm, if Yu Se takes all of Ran's energy in Vol. 3 does that mean she's now as weak as a normal human?

Good observation. But

If Ye Se took all of Ran's energy, she would die but as you can see Ran is just exhausted and goes to sleep. Yu Se took most of Ran's energy but not all of it. Although weak, think of Ran as an empty or almost empty container. She can still gain her energy back as she can still hold as much, but the energy she had is gone . Ran should recover with time but as she is now, she can barely move until she gets some of her energy back(by resting, training again).
Also, a good to note is that Yu Se's Sa Shin Mu is not the same as Bi Ryu's. Bi Ryu gains his energy from his killing aura as he becomes stronger and stronger when he's in the "mad" or "Sa-Shin"(God of Death) state. Yu Se on the other hand now has the energy of a Heavely Moutain Sword Stance user which is totally different from killing aura. So while the moves and movements might be similiar he will begin to mold both the Heaven Moutain Sword Stance with his current Sa Shin Mu to make something new altogether. Yu Se is a crafty mofo for sure :D

I estimate volume 4 to be released in June or July. Let's hope for June.

A new announcement, a new manga that's been running in Korea by the artist of "NOW" is being brought over to america by comicsone. Looks like "NOW" sales have been pretty good. It's unfortunate that it's not the prequel to "NOW" but a whole new series called...

Jay, the female lead(I think)
http://free.one.picturehost.co.uk/peigenz.jpg

Let me copy the summary of this from the comicsone website-

"Peigenz is an action drama which incorporates both outstanding art and just the right amount of comedy to balance the tension-filled serious moments. At the beginning of the 21st century a sudden increase in genetic mutations cause some people to be born with special abilities. However, these enhanced humans are not welcome amongst the general population. As time goes by, they are marked for exile and shunned by society, resulting in a life of crime for many. As their special powers make them difficult to apprehend, the government joins hands with an unofficial, secret group of bounty hunters known as Peigenz. The Peigenz organization is filled with the most gifted and highly trained mutated individuals.

Jay Berell, the heroine of the series, is a normal high school student. During a battle between Peigenz and a dangerous serial killer, Jay find herself caught in the crossfire. This triggers her special mutant abilities and leads to her recruitment into the Peigenz organization." - www.comicsone.com

I haven't read this manga in Korean yet so I'm not entirely sure if it's good or not but I think I'll pick up the first volume come July and let you know what I think.

Slade, I have an enormous amount of 'e-respect' towards you for spreading the word of NOW heehee... I only have 2 volumes of NOW in Korean... I bought it back in September because I was at a Korean bookstore and noticed the art on the covers so I checked them out. Few month's later, I see volume 1 and 2 at Borders!!! I can't believe this thing was licensed!!! HOWEVER.... One thing (or two for that matter) that dissappoints me is the size of the manhwa... It's so small!!! Why couldn't Comicsone just publish it in its regular size? (the size of all american released manga)... another thing is, with the korean manhwa, theres a colored fold out thingie in the beginning... I noticed the American version had it... but as a regular page and in black and white.... Those 2 things were the only things that got me a little mad. BUT ANYWAYS!!! I'm very glad NOW is being noticed in the Manga community... And I also hope that Korean Manhwa's get recognized as well because they're really good!

Oh yeah... One Korean Manhwa everybody should look out for is "JJANG" dubbed as "THE BOSS" in America. This is going to be released by ADV manga and it's a must read. So, check it out when it hits your local bookstore!!!

wait Slade....whos that girl in your sig -_-???? Another girl in Now? looks cool.

And if it's a new manga does that mean Now is finished in Korea?

And secondly...

If Yu Se can absorb energy now, what conditions are there for him to absorb energy? Can he just absorb energy while fighting or must the victim be totally unconscious for him to do it? I can imagine Yu Se just absorbing the killing energy from Biryu while fueling Biryu into a greater rage -_- Kinda like Ran's ultimate defense against Biryus ultimate offense, each fueling each other... Or will Yu Se ever learn to produce the same killing aura that Biryu has?

You misused your spoiler tag it seems. It's "spoiler" not spoilers.

The girl featured in my signature is M.O.M.O. the most dangerous female character I've seen yet from "ZERO" another manga made by the artist of "NOW". "NOW" is not finished in Korea but rather the artist has about 3 running series at the same time. I made an announcement about Peigenz because it's licensed and we'll see it in stores come July.

About your question about Yu Se..

vague spoilers of what's to come... cilck at your own risk.
Yu Se can absord energy as long as he can get in his ready stance and make physical contact with the victim. It is very possible for him to use it during battle but it'd be hard to make physical contact on people that are very skilled like Bi Ryu and etc. in the midst of battle.

Yu Se will use his new found ability and as he gains different types of energy, he molds them into one that will result in something completely different and possibly far superior from what Bi Ryu has.

Not to say that Bi Ryu himself doesn't evolve in his fighting style either. Bi Ryu will slowly understand that rage and anger can only get him so far into pulling out his full potential as he spends time with Rin.

Rin also under goes change after seeing Bi Ryu gets injured to save her, she decides to that she wants to save and protect the people she cares for, not always be powerless/useless(I think Sakura from Naruto could learn alot from Rin:D ) . I'd hate Rin too if all she did say "Bi Ryu - Kun! Bi Ryu - Kun!!" good thing she's more interesting than that. :heh:

Its pretty funny to see the names translation of main characters ;p
i havnt read now in english , but with the informations i got in this topic ,

Rin Yhun is the cute little sister , and
Ran Yhun the older one ^^ ;)
BUT :nono: the real corean First names are :

Yhun Ah-Rin ( 연아린 )
Yhun Ah-Ran ( 연아란 ) well i dun know if u can see the written corean ,
nevermind ;p

i know that u are thinking .." wat a stupid guy , we dun care about if its ah-rin or rin " BUT :nono: , since the volume 11 there ll be another female character ( also cute and overskilled ;)) called RIN and its capital for the story ...( i wont tell u , bbut Bi-ryu gonna have some problems :/, etc )
I wonder what ll be the first name of RIN :o

And also u can read the serie made before NOW : the drawings sux at the beginning , but after the volume 4 its like now ( a peu pres ;))
hmm i dun know how u can translate it in english , but its the story of Ah-Rin's father&mother +sashinmu..etc
Many characters from this manhwa are related with now ...if u read it , u ll undestand the Sashinmu in a better way. (iS my english good enough for making u understand lol? :hmm: )

And for the Fans and non-Fans: If u like NOW for the first 4 volumes..just wait for the others , dun give up!
This manhwa will be MORE and MORE exciting since the volume 5 , the drawings gonna be better ..well , and more characters will appeared : ( all related with the previous serie) :)

Allez , Au revoir ^^

Oh good. A good chance for all your "NOW" readers to get aquainted with world of Sa-Shin-Mu a little more. Like youhou said above, the drawing is a bit crude in the beginning in the prequel manga but it does get better with time. Not to mention it's good to see what kind of people Rin/Ran's parents are since they'll be making their debute come volume 4!

I just got the fourth volume the other day and man is it sweet!

And man are Rin and Ran's parents hella strong! They both treated Mother of Demons like she was a child just giving her some passive praise on her strength and then proceeding to school the hell out of her.

and the interesting thing is the way O'Rang Yhun(Rin and Ran's Father) fights. He has one hand behind his back at all times while fighting a martial artist of the calibur of Mother of Demons. It'd be scary to see how he fights when he's really serious and going all out.

Another I found suprising was what happened between Rin and Bi Ryu. I never though Bi Ryu would do that even though he has the tendancy to act violent.

He feels his resolve to annihilate all the murderers in the world is weakening ever since Rin has appeared and it'll be interesting how those two get along after this event.

The biggest thing to note in this volume is the new character "Nirvana". She is keen to point out some people's deepest secrets and is more than meets the eye.

Looks like only me and Mazus got volume 4 in this board so far, I suggest going to your waldenbooks over Borders because my Borders get things pretty late.

NOW certainly looks interesting, and the art you've posted looks very, very nice. I wasn't too impressed by the sample pages; while the foundation art is pretty good, I think the author could improve in dynamism (moving pictures/figures) and effects. Nevertheless, I'm pretty intrigued by what you've posted so far.

Are there any translations to mandarin? If there are I'd certainly drop in at the comic store to rent a couple to read.. There aren't too many Korean -> Chinese manhwa (as it's also called in mandarin) out there, but I really like one Korean manhwa called Long Fei Bu Bai (in mandarin). :D Great art, about a martial artist and his horse..

Regardless, I'll try and look for places where I can read up more of NOW.. Looks interesting, but I'm not that sure yet.

YES! I FINALLY HAVE BOOK 4!!!

After reading it, all I can say is...Not enough YuSe! X(

I thought Volume 4 had a decent amount of Yu Se, but you'll get your fill of him come later volumes. Some of them are dedicated entirely to him and Ran almost without one hint of Bi Ryu and his gang.

I really like Bi Ryu's development in Volume 5. His relationship with Rin grows after the dispute in volume 4.

Here's a memorable quotes from Volume 5, translated roughly from Korean

Bi Ryu: "Because... you're my precious friend ...."

Volume 5, Due out mid October!

If I remember correctly, this volume has alot of blood and a bit of self reflection from both Bi Ryu and Yu Se. Quite a dramatic battle and also the introduction of one of the center characters.

It's definitely a must see.

I'll post again once I grab it.

Yay! I'll have to go to the comic shop and order a copy in ^-^ This comic takes WAY too long getting published, I'll have to reread the entire story every time a new volume comes out just to refresh my memory O.o

Hah hah, I finally have book 5 of Now only a few weeks after it's been released instead of waiting months! Bi'ryu just doesn't interest me as a character.

I don't know, although I have to agree that Yu Se has more dimensions in his personality, Bi Ryu's struggle as his goal and role to be a "God of Death" and normal person interests me. He's innocent and not corrupted by various cultures as he's lived in the moutains most of his life.

So he doesn't lie, cheat, and lives by the fair code of the warrior that was taught to him by North Star. Also, Bi Ryu's a total bad-ass, and confident in his abilities.

I'm a bit biased towards bad-asses I suppose :D .

[QUOTE=evil|plushie]Ack, I was looking through studiozeros page and I found this preview page

http://www.stdzero.com/zb/data/preview/now158.jpg

Looks like Yuse's pretty pissed at Bi'ryu -_- And looks like he can hand Bi'ryus ass to him this time too

i know im post so out of the blue...but
i was wondering about that for a long time now...i know that looks VERY like Yu Se,
but i don't think that its him, because i know there was a series b4 NOW and there was a young man in there that looked like him and the only thing that i noticed that only givs me sum proof is the pauldrens or shoulder guards or watever u call it.

yes it is Yu Se

Looks like it's been a while since someone posted in here..

I finally found more info and pics on this manga/manhwa! I got this off my comic store last year when they released Vol 1 and 2. Just 2 weeks back they released Vol 3 and 4 (after a long 1-year wait!)

I'm definitely more interested in the Yu-He/Ran pairing, simply cause Yu-He is such a bad-ass. But one question, if I remember correctly, in Vol 4 when Yu-He woke up after the fight in Mother Demon's place he was alone with the masked guy right? So I'm assuming Ran's parents took Ran back. So why couldn't they release her binds with their skills? They're awesomely powerful from the way I see it.

The drawings are really good so far, but I have one complaint- the drawing seems a little inconsistent at times. For example you see the characters accessories appearing on the wrong sides sometimes. In Vol 4, Ran seems to be holding her swords on the right side and suddenly it appears on her left. And when she got hurt by Bi-Ryu it was initially on the right and suddenly it was on the left. Feels very odd to see that.

Yu-Se actually doesn't amuse me that much, since he never struck me as a particularly novel character-- but then again, neither did Bi-Ryu. I'm just infatuated with the whole Indian-martial arts theme, since you rarely see that being done. But, yeh. Ran's the love of my life-- so cold and steely-- just like her mother!

Oh, and Ah-kwi (the fat cook) is freakin hilarious.

Oh, I didn't know about the forum reset (just registered like yesterday?) Too bad the earlier stuff posted by Slade isn't working anymore (dying for more Ran pics!)

Indian martial arts theme? That's something new to hear, but I thought it's based on the 4 Divine Gods skillls that Shashimu's based on? I see that being used very frequently in mangas.

Ambience, I guess we have something in common then..I like Ran very much too, her appearance was much better than Rin, and her skillful swordswomanship is indeed amazing.

So how many volumes are out for you guys? I heard 16 volumes is out in Korea but there's only 4 volumes out here..:upset:

Edit: Anyone knows where I can get my hands on any scanlations? I don't wanna wait for another year for 2 voloumes..
