anybody hear anything about a full metal panic 3 or fumoffu2 or whatever?
There is 3 mangas.
Full Metal Panic!, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu and Full Metal Panic! 2.
So perhaps they'll make a 3rd season.

are u asking if there IS a fullmetal panic 3?....or if anybody knows about it?
Ask this question again in the spring when the next batch of new animes come out. we wont hear anything until at least then (probably not even until next fall)
Yup I agree we won't hear anything until next year or so or maybe longer, damn I really hope they make an 3rd season, now that fumoffu is over I guess I'll rewatch it over again :)
There is 3 mangas.
Full Metal Panic!, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu and Full Metal Panic! 2.

I know of only two manga that are out which are full metal panic! (FMP and part of FMP?F are based on this...this manga is based on the Novel) and Ikinari! Full Metal Panic! (chibi version geared towards children FMP?F is also based on this..). If there is third manga version of full metal panic could you provide me link so i can buy even if its in japanese :heh:
If there is a third season it will most likely be more like FMP season 1 and based on the novels. From what i have HEARD a certain bad guy returns...and Tessa starts being a bit selfish and tries to seperate Souske from Chidori.....But the creators of the anime could diverge from this cuz nothing is written into stone when it comes to anime.....
There is 3 mangas.
Full Metal Panic!, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu and Full Metal Panic! 2.

There are indeed 3 manga's but the third one is not called Full Metal Panic! 2...
Theres Full Metal Panic!, Full Metal Panic ikinari! and Full Metal Panic! SURPLUS.
I have no idea what SURPLUS is about though, i've yet to find out any real information on it. All i know is the the first volume was released a few months ago.
I would love for ADV to release the FMP! novels because the entire story was finished in the novels, and it went past all the events that happend in the first season.
Lets just hope they will release them when they get caught up with the manga.
or it would be nice if anyone that has the novels would do a translation.

Well I know that the 1st season of FMP! was based on the 1st manga.
The 2nd season which is FMP?F is based off the 2nd one.
And there is a 3rd one..
All of them are all based off Novel(s)...I read somewhere there's more than ONE novel, where the mangas were based off...I'll try to find that site again...if not google it up :)

The first season was not really based off the first manga. If you read the manga you'll see that many things happend that wasn't shown in the anime. Its better to say the first anime series was based on the novel seeing as how the manga is done even finished yet.
It gets really confusing at times because most people really haven't read the novels yet so its hard to tell whats based on what.

Full Metal Panic! is a popular novel series that was animated by GONZO in 2001 and aired on the Japanese cable channel WOWWOW in 2002. The story premise goes something like this:
It's the year 2001. The Cold War is still ongoing, the USSR is a major and dangerous political and military force, and suddenly technology, particularly military technology, has gotten weird.
Enter Mithril, a very secret and independent military and intelligence organization that operates internationally for the defense and promotion of peace and humanity. The halting and destruction of various 'Whispered' projects is critical for Mithril, and failure could lead to a new level of violence and destruction yet to be seen in history. So why are they interested in ordinary teenagers??
Enter teenager Sousuke Sagara is a member of the hidden military organization Mithril. He is a career soldier with a mysterious past. All that is known about his past is that he was trained as a guerilla terrorist since youth and has lived a military life . Extremely logical, an experienced fighter, and quite clearly a survivor; he's a professional soldier even among pros. Sousuke now faces what might be the one situation he can't handle - Japanese high school! He has been assigned to secretly protect a young girl Kaname Chidori. While Sagara is a highly skilled soldier, he unfortunately lacks social skills. Can he adapt to this new battlefield and to the opposite sex?
Kaname Chidori is your average "not-so-average" high school girl. Her life is nearly perfect: she's smart, president of her class, and has reached an advanced stage of physical development (she is a 'Whispered' after all). Did I mention she's a hottie. The only thing missing from her ordinary life is teenage romance. Enter a new transfer student... in addition to being a trouble-causing military freak, he appears to be stalking Kaname? Why is he tipping over the library's bookcases, busting into the girls' locker room, hiding in bushes, attacking anyone who comes near her and throwing grenades? Life with Sagara around is never going to be the same again...but who said that was a bad thing?
Unfortunately, all I have seen of the series thus far is one fansubbed episode, as well as the trailer from ADV Films. So lucky for us who haven't seen it, ADV will be releasing the entire first season starting with Volume 1 (scheduled to be released June 10th, 2003). I say first season because while researching info for this report, I came across news that a second season has been announced. But from what I read it may not answer questions left by its predecessor (like many anime series) and no word has been made about a US release.
Since I don't too much about the characters and story, I guess I'll talk a little about the history behind Full Metal Panic. Personally, I find series like this to be very interesting and I like know something about the series' history and background.
History of FMP
The Full Metal Panic was originally a series of novels and short stories written by Shoji Gatoh, with original art by Shiki Douji. The short stories are still ongoing in Monthly Dragon Magazine. From that, two very different ongoing manga series, one multi-part trading card game, and one anime TV series were spawned (of course there is the second series in the works as well).
The novels are the 'complete' version of the FMP! story, and contains many plots, events, characters, and ...stuff... that the other formats don't have.
The anime, which most fans are likely familiar with, focuses on about half of half of everything.
To explain: the anime does not include much of the comedic adventures, it sticks mostly to the dramatic half.
And then the anime cuts that short, in a sense, telling only about half of the serious part of the story.
The novels continue the serious story beyond the point at which the anime stops.
The anime also leaves out a number of details and explanations, meaning the anime is really very 'bare bones', compared to the novels and even the manga.
(although the anime does tell the story in a way that is mostly well contained- the anime ending is an effective and mostly acceptable ending)
The 'Full Metal Panic!' manga is considerably slow moving when compared to the anime. It includes a number of different events, and does work some of the stuff in the anime differently. The changes are very noticeable, but don't really change the primary story overall.
After 2 years and 4 volumes, the story is only halfway through the anime's story plot set through episodes 9-12.
Another noticeable difference between the manga and the other FMP! formats is the way the manga begins. Instead of the story starting from Sousuke's POV (like the anime), and manga starts with Kaname's POV. Sousuke's odd behavior is known to the anime audience, it isn't supposed to be as well understood, initially, to the manga audience. The FMP! manga is currently being serialized as part of NewType USA. So if you want to check it out, then pick you a copy of NewType USA today.
The 'Ikinari! FMP!' manga does not really align itself with any of the other formats, as it consists of mostly very not-serious situations involving Sousuke and Kaname, with Kyouko, the class teacher, and a little annoying brat-thing as the primary support cast. Kurtz does make an appearance in volume 4, but his role is extremely comical. Currently, no plans have been made to release Ikinari! FMP! here in the United States, but that may change.
So clearly, Full Metal Panic has gathered a huge following and with the DVD release here in the US I think it will only get larger. With a mix of action, comedy, and romance; I feel that there will have something to offer just about any otaku out there. Plus, I'm sure that there is a little something for the fanboys out there considering this series has a lot of cute girls. And the ladies may find Sousuke not to be a bad to check out either ^_^
Notes about FMP:
Mithril meaning:
According to what read, 'Mithril' may be a Tolken reference. It has since become somewhat common in Tolken-influenced fantasy and RPG situations. Mithril is a special silver-like metal, very strong and durable and maybe a little magical.
Novel to Anime Relation:
Episodes 1-7 covers novel #1
Episode 8 is a comedic one-shot episode, one of the stories in novel #2
Episodes 9-12 cover novel #3.
Episode 13 is a one-shot episode, found in novel #5
Episode 14 is a one shot, that I can't find anywhere. (although I didn't really look)
Episodes 15-17 - couldn't find what these cover
Episodes 18-24 covers novel #6.
(except for Melissa's episode 19 story- novel #7
09.11.01 Side-effects:
The anime series was scheduled to air beginning October '01, however it was postponed until January '02. There was a minor story element changed during this time, due to current events. Some also speculate that FMP! was delayed due to the story's terrorist material (like many movies and other titles were delayed here in the US due to the public's assumed heightened sensitivity).
Also, In the original story, Sousuke's first training is terrorist training in Afghanistan.
Given current events, the animators have changed it to a fictional country in the same region. Sousuke's afghan terrorist connections have little to nothing to do with the current situation there. First, the story was written a few years before the current situation there. Second, the time period Sousuke was there, was in the mid eighties or so- during that time the Soviet Union was involved in invading that country (like it did so many other nearby countries). The USA was somewhat active in providing arms and training to the afghan fighters, but despite that, Afghanistan would never have had the military or firepower to resist the Soviets in a conventional war. Their best shot was taking the homefield advantage by using the rough terrain to wage terrorist guerilla warfare.
This is the terrorist activity Sousuke would have been involved in.

Is this from the first manga or the new one that just came out? Sagari is an idiot so if he doesn't make a move, Chidori is sure to fall for someone else.

Actually, by looking at the marks on their faces, I'd say that he might be another one of the Whispered, and that the kiss has something to do wit their powers.
In other words, it may have no romantic connotations (of course, this is all speculation).
BTW, what language is that site in?
If you want to know who he is, look at the spoiler
That guy is Renardo/Leonardo/something_like_that, Tessa's brother
If you have spoiled yourself reading that or already know who he is you can look at this picture (http://server4.uploadit.org/files/211103-FMP.jpg).
It's very cute but it might be considered a spoiler.
hmmm, you sure thats Tessa's brother? When a brother is groaping his sister like that, somethings definately not right. :uhoh:

No, that's Tessa's brother kissing Chidori, so it's totally legal.
Also, if you guys want to get some information on a possible FMP3, then I'll need a lot of help and a number of people over in Japan to help with the search. Primary reason is I have perty much shot all my research tools and used up all my favors for the next 10 years doing research into a possible Get Backers season 2. So I don't have much left that I can use to research this anymore. But if anyone wants to help, I can give it a shot. But I'll need some help, specifically help that is local to japan. So if you wanna help out and you live in japan, just PM me. :)

um, so does anyone know when the next FMP season coming out? hopefully within two months?
i mean, what was the time span inbetween FMP1 and fumu, can we expect the same wait?
2 months? What are you talking about? FMP! came out last year, while FMP?F came out just recently. We may have to wait until next fall at the very least.

F and of course FMP did and are doing so well and they have wanted to continue with it being either a another season or just adding on it cause the anime didnt really follow totally out and finish like the manga so hopefully we will see something in the next couple months because they are suppose be trying to bring out new episodes since it did so well :)

i bet there are scans...just not translated....OH WELL....i have the mangas! currently waiting for vol 3...
I believe that the second TV series of FMP! has begun airing in January. If I run into any Informative sites I'll let you know.
There's no way that would be true, considering that FMP! was wildly popular, and it's currently March. Fansub groups would be all up ons if another season of FMP! were airing.
Yeah,, I could be wrong..

Isn't there a site on the tv tokyo site where they tell you what new seasons or shows they are going to air?
Hi guys first post ever! heh...
I need to know when the next series of full metal panic is coming out, I've read all your posts and there very helpful. I'll keep checking to see the new news hehe. Thanks

I've already read the post way back (on their site) and I know that there's more, but is there really all that much left to be explained in a 3rd season? I know FMP1 is based off the first manga and Fumoffu is based off the 2nd, chibi one, but I think the major premises were covered in the novels, and I belive the scope of the anime dealt mainly with Souske and the Arbalest, not with the Whispered in depth...
Not to say I wouldn't mind a season 3. Currently FMP! is my fav mecha (if u can really consider it that) anime.
For me, the challenge was trying to decide who was cuter, Chidori or Tessa...

I heard a few rumours about a third series of FMP! a while back.
I haven't seen any definite information about if/when the third series will air.
It seems unlikely that the season aired in Jan. There would have been some more concrete info.
Is there an official site for the entire FMP! scope (Mangas and Series), in English preferably?
If there is a thrid series of FMP! its likely to be more like the original series (let's hope there's some more mecha :D).
Other than that, we'll just have to wait and see what comes up.

I don't see that happening anytime soon because there's not much left to cover. FMP season 1 + FMP Fumoffu pretty much went over all the full-length novels and the short stories published in Dragon Magazine(with the exception of one or two short side stories and the last full-length novel). Anything left over was pretty much covered in the manga(from what I saw in vol1~5).
Our only hope is if the studio will do a 13 eps TV or 4~5ep OVA for the last full-length novel if the demand is there.
Should would we be hearing something about season 3 anytime soon because ADV just announce that had receive the liscense to FMP? since both seriers was popular I don't why that wouldn't make season 3 to follow FMP!(SEASON ONE)

There are several threads already made on that topic. They should be somewhere in this FMP forum.
Fullmetal Panic 3? (2004-08-02 19:19:02)

I was bored all this summer so i pretty much turned to an "otaku" from what my brother say's lol, but I stumbbled on a novel that fallowed after the first series and goes in depth with the characters backgrounds. There are also some new characters like
Tessa's brother (the one kissing Chidori/Kaname in the picture in the earlier posts) and some people after Chidori/Kaname. I don't know if you guy's already know about this novel but i wouldn't know cause I am a n00b haha.
Here's a little part of the text in one of the chapters where Leonard kisses Chidori/Kaname . Oh and Yes I said KISSES because he kissed her so I hope thats a little relief for you Chidori and Sousuke fans.
'Leonard listened with deepening interest as Kaname fumbled her words. After that he smiled mischievously, looking into her eyes.
"You don't seriously believe that line of reasoning, do you?"
"But..." She looked away in spite of herself.
"The act itself is essentially the same, either way. But you only blame me. You're very supportive of him, aren't you?"
"No, I..."
"You love him."
"No, I don't."
"Really?"
"Really."
"Look at me."
"Eh-"
He took her completely by surprise. Embracing her shoulders tenderly, she suddenly faced him and in that instant- his lips pressed up against hers. It was a cold, soft, and wet sensation. It was so abrupt that her mind went blank. Where she was, who he was, even who she was- she forgot everything. She didn't even feel hatred. No, on the contrary- for just a moment, a sweet flavor even tried to overcome her heart. Time went by. Leonard didn't resist Kaname's slap. She slapped him hard across the side of the face, but he just staggered lightly.'
Intrested, no? haha honestly I didn't want to read it but I couldn't resist so enough with the chit-chat the site is

yosh! more Panic!
Me- I hope it would continue with Full Metal Panic Fumoffu's style or atleast like 6 more episodes to fumoffu to really add some finish to it.
but from the title "the second raid" it's obvouisly going to be action mech stuff.
As long as it has Chidori n Sagara i'm good. And honestly I hope it's not like in FMP where...
The same frickin bad guy comes back like 3 times. Man if that Gara guys back I'm going to be so mad.
Either way, My curiosity only had me click on a couple spoiler tags here so It didn't ruin too much.
Plus it's not even out yet so you all could be wrong. and It's been a long time- any new news?

"FMP! tsr" will more likely cover the two "Owaru Day by Day" novels, some comedies that have not yet been covered, and perhaps up to "Odoru Very Merry Christmas."
Notable scenes are:
Tessa's brother, Leonard (aka Mr. Silver) makes his appearance (ODBD)
Leonard steals Chidori's first kiss (ODBD)
Gaurun's last appearance as a quadriplegic (ODBD)
Sagara officially chooses Chidori over Tessa (OVMC)

Hmm... I heard there were 6 full-length novels already and only the first 3 were covered in the 2 anime series? so I guess it's not that unlikely to do another full length anime series (24-26 eps) epsecially since the author is going to write some original plot just for it... Also someone said the available novel material is enough for even two more seasons?
BTW, is there any new full-length novels still in the work? How has the story developed so far? I sooooo want to see MITHRIL getting blown into pieces :p

From what I've read in dragon magazine, there are more full-length novels coming. The ones that are available in compilation form that were not covered in the original series were the 2 volumes of "Owaru Day by Day" and "Odoru Very Merry Christmas" (translations can be found here: http://www.boku-tachi.net)- but the story doesn't end there. There were quite a few of the short stories that weren't animated in either of the first two series, but I would definitely love to see the full-length story animated again- they were able to stretch the first 3 full-length novels to 24 episodes (with a few filler episodes, but they were too bad), so I think they could definitely do the same to the next 3.

"FMP! tsr" will more likely cover the two "Owaru Day by Day" novels
Day by Day is pretty good.. Hopefully, they will throw in some filler episodes similar to Fumoffu.

Sagara officially chooses Chidori over Tessa (OVMC)
I think that's one of the few things that might be 'adjusted' to further create tension between the three...not saying they'll change the outcome, but I'm guessing that the path to reaching it will be a bit different than the novel's progression. Of course, that's just a guess.

I would rather see that Chidori and Sagara gets together early, so we don't get the same thing as in prevorious FMP, where they don't even kiss :(

As reported in a recent entry on MOON PHASE (http://d.hatena.ne.jp/moonphase/20040923):
According to an Nikkei Characters magazine interview with Gatoh Shouji, the creator of the Full Metal Panic! franchise, Full Metal Panic! the second raid is slated for a 2005 release. It is confirmed that the medium will be Television.
Personal reaction: It's nothing new, but it sets some already much-speculated details down in stone. I'm personally worried about the new show being aired on FujiTV, even if the past FMP!'s have not gone as far as, say Girls Bravo, in original planning (in terms of nudity and such).

I honestly cannot remember too much in the terms for ecchiness in the novels, there were moments but no worse than that of what was found in the prior two shows. There's a bit more dramatic feel to the story, however, with the inclusion of a couple characters and their effects on the tension between Kaname, Sousuke, and Tessa...but I cannot fathom seeing them go the distance of something like DearS or Girls Bravo in terms of 'flair'...just doesn't seem like something that would happen.

it's at the very top paragraph of the page 『フルメタ』のアニメ化の話がまたもや浮上中! 今度は、宗介とかなめの絆が最も深く結ばれるエピソード「 終わるデイ・バイ・デイ」がアニメになるらしいぞ。 roughly it says the story of the new Full Metal animation is revealed. This time it's the story where Sousuke and Kaname develop their deepest bond, 終わるデイ・バイ・デイ , that's turned into animation.
There is 3 mangas.
Full Metal Panic!, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu and Full Metal Panic! 2.
So perhaps they'll make a 3rd season.
Just as long as it isn't as shitty as fumoffu...fumoffu had to be the single WORST attempt to make a "comedy" EVER.....the writer needed to stick to his STRENGHTS, and COMEDY was DEFINATLY no one of them....if it is ANYTHING like that, I'll just have to pass on FMP3

I liked the animation from the first series, it looked more smoother & natural to me. The way Kaname & Sousuke looked way better too, but Fumoffu wasn't that bad. Just being picky I guess, but I'll still watch Second Raid.
I guess you were the only one not laughing when watching FMP fumoffu....
nope, I know PLENTY of ppl that didn't like it as well, it was just washed up comedy left over from the original, no plot or anything, not worth watching....I don't mind comedy, I even LIKE a little comedy, but using the SAME JOKES over and over is just really STUPID, as long as the add some PLOT to the new one, it won't be so bad....
Do you like hearing the SAME JOKE over and over and over and over...well that is all FMP2 was, so if you liked FMP2, you are someone who is EASILY amused...

Sure hope you don't attempt to read the novels, because considering Fumoffu was actually a part of the original FMP's storyline, it might throw you for a loop :P
As for liking Fumoffu, it was a change of pace style for what you were used to seeing the FMP cast as, it's basically all fanservice because it's the FMP cast in situations they normally wouldn't be found in exactly...and honestly, I really dislike being called simple and easily amused for liking a specific anime series, especially from someone using an ATHF persona.

well...you must be easily amused :P...pretty much all of it was pulled OUT of context of the series and should not have been a standalone series. It would not have been so bad INSIDE the main series, but leaving it out then making it by itself just seems to bring back and overuse stuff that was already over with....

Maybe you should read the manga [if you haven't], and I'll have you know that I only watched it for the enjoyment; sad thing is, I'm not the only one who hated the ending for being so, well, lame if I must say.
I really didn't like the ending.
I'll also have you know part of my amusement is others downfalls. But of course, I learned not to go out of control...
New Full Metal Panic (2004-10-29 17:31:27)
Kadokowa Shoten has officially announced that a new Full Metal Panic! TV series, Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid, is to be produced. The series will once again be directed by Yasuhiro Takemoto, but is expected to be a serious adaptation of the two Full Metal Panic! Owaru Day By Day novels. Source: MoonPhase

:nono: What are u talking FMP? being not plotted and doing the same jokes over and over again? FMP? is the most funniest anime I ever watched. It's well-plotted and brilliants on the joke. Also I don't know if it's me or everyone else, I thought of FMP very boring until the end, u know when the ship got taken over? Quite in contrary, I found FMP?F a lot more interesting then FMP and I spent whole afternoon watching FMP?F. And FMP? is also the only anime that made me actually open my drawer and watch them again. I am freaking glad that FMP3 is going to be directe by the same group directed FMP? Period.
Yep it's official new series is being produced, just like late said.

If they go by the novel, no.
But since the anime seemed to have changed the twins to "sisters" than the original "brothers" as in the novel, who knows?
By the way, those machines are called "Armored Mobile Master-Slave System," or more commonly known as "arm-slave," or abbreviated as "A.S."
while the guy is a mad guy named Geitsu (?).
Maybe it is "Gates". I like the character designs.

But yes, Cammie should watch FMP Fumoffu. Although the action/mecha/military stuff is taken out, its replaced with pure comedy of Sousuke trying to fit in the school. Worth watching if u liked FMP ;)

Deffinately worth watching, both FMP and FMP? F! Lol, the thing was, i watched them in backwards order. I saw Fumoffu before i saw FMP, since Fumoffu was a sub at the time, and FMP was licenced. Oh well, i still saw them both.
And a 3rd season... i thought that the series was wrapped up nicely at the end of FMP (Fumoffu was really just sidestories) but i guess they can do anything to "revitalize" a series.

Yea it was nicely wrapped up, but you just hunger for more after it finished because it felt like an introduction to the world of FMP. I would gladly watch many more series of full metal panic if they can keep up the quality that was shown in FMP and fumoffu.

I saw Fumoffu first and I loved it. I had no real problems understanding it until the episode where Tessa showed up, now that was when I got really confused, and very unhappy cause I didn't like how she seemingly appearing out of nowhere was trying to get inbetween Sosuke and Chidori. I still kinda don't really like Tessa because that was my first impression of her.

You are the 1243532th person who asked this...
Oh, well. Standard answer: FMP is a long-running series of novels. Kyoto Animation has left the TSR story open and faithful to the novel, and as such there would be no continuity problems if/when they decide to restart the series again.
But technically there is no commitments that FORCE them to make another season. As such they will make more if or when they feel like it. The Kyoto Animation staff as well as the novel author are taking their breaks, and doing something else right now.
Good work takes time. Better work takes time and holidays too. It's likely there will be a third season, but the "when" really depends on destiny. Go watch other things or read the FMP novels; no point holding your breath waiting.

One of the better and more satisfying answers to this undying question.;)
Personally I would agree that there is a good possibility of another season, but as it is mentioned by Vallen Chaos Valiant, really good anime such as this will take a good amount of time to complete.
I also discussed this fairly extensively on a previous thread/post, but I believe it disappeared along with many accounts (including my own) that were deleted through a mishap on animesuki. I'm sure most of you are aware that that the mere popularity of a series isn't enough to put it into production and that there are of course legalities, agreements that can go awry between the animation company, sponsorship, director, voice actors, and other endless issues involved with the production of a series, especially one as prominent as this.
We all know that TSR (2005) took a while to come around after Fumoffu (2003), so I don't think we should expect anything anytime soon. I just hope that if/when they finally do decide to start a third season that there are no hang-ups or episode deletions =\

Because season 1, was so-so.
So i want to ask the people who read the next volume's of manga, is the storyline good enough to make it into a good anime.
And don't say just yes, please say why!

From what I've heard about and read translated (I believe up to COMO chap 2 part b) on Boku-Taki, I believe with COMO and DVMC they def enough to work with. Since DVMC is a little shorter, they probably could even put them togeather if they wanted to. I've never actually read any of BOMF (Burning One Man Force) which takes place after COMO but from what I've heard (and someone plz correct me if I'm wrong) there is almost no Kaname or any of the characters from previous seasons (with the exception of Sousuke) in it. As a huge Kaname fan, I find that disappointing. BOMF also ends with a cliffhanger (I believe). I don't think they would be able to do BOMF as a single series on its own. They would probably have to add it with something. However, if they do COMO as a season, unless they would leave fans with a huge cliffy, they would have to do another season after.
My guess? If they do anything more (which I hope they do), it will be a OVA for DVMC. COMO (which so far is awesome) and BOMF both end with cliffhangers, so that would be a little harder to animate as a complete story.
I demand another season of Full Metal Panic. I need closure for sagara and Kanami's relationship. They really need to get it over with and confess their love to each other. Everytime I think about Full Metal Panic, I feel like it's not over yet. Only then will I ever consider this amazing series finished. :)

if they decide to make "Dancing very merry christmas" into a anime series, most will probably think it is better, because:
Mithril actually go on the attack instead of being attacked, and sousoke and kaname actually admit they care for each other, and also sousuke tells tessa he likes kaname more. And i think the action is lot more believable and better, unlike the last episode of TSR

Well, it's certainly heart-warming to think that they would come out this soon, but unfortunately I have to disagree with that assumption.
First because, looking back at the time span between Full Metal Panic!, Fumoffu and The Second Raid, we see a few years between both. And Panic! wasn't even a full 52-episodes series.
I'd love, though, to see some type of proof that in the summer, I'll be able to get my eyes on yet another masterpiece.
Oh, and by the way, only started watching FMP last week, fell madly in love, watched both the series, Fumoffu and TSR in about 2 days, re-watched them and I am actually re-watching the series in English. Yea, I do have a lot of time =P
Let us hope for any new FMP series anytime soon. I'd be shaking the whole time until it started, just how it was with Gundam Seed -> Destiny.

between full metal Panic 1st season and Fumoffu there was a 1 year gap. between fumoffu and the second Raid there was a 2 year period. and i believe the next season if there will be one will be based on ADVMC which is real short.
as a huge fan of fmp i have to say this
it was a very long time since the fumoffu ended and the tsr was out so my guess IF they do a 4 season will by 3 or 4 years from now, so lets just hope.
i have read until chp 2b of como end indeed has cliffs but if the bomf hasn't got chidori and the like then what's the point.

BOMF is basically about Sousuke's troubles trying to locate Kaname. I was also disappointed when I heard she really wasnt in it, but it can be argued that BOMF is a nesscary stepping stone that needs to be there so the rest of the story makes sense.
Im very new to this forum and all but as the way I see it. It looks like it's going quite well for the Fullmeta novels in Japan and the author doesnt seem to be slacking in writing new ones.
And out of that I draw the conclusion that you cant make the anime-watchers sit empty-handed when there are more material to animate.
Or maybe im just lost in my obsession?

yea. Hope that BOMF clears the mind of Sousuke, after all, he will be looking for HER without any help of a Mercenary-HiTech Organization, just another Whispered, a reporter and himself with his guns and wish to rescue Kaname.
And abot Sousukeīs mind, with it I mean the fact that we'll only see him in this novel, so surely he will have lots of reflection about his life and his future

Define popular - if you think people in the baby boomer age or 80 year olds reading and watching this, then no.
If you think people who have lives like actively playing in the high school soccer or baseball team, then no.
It's a market aimed at teenagers and at otakus. It is not on the level of Jennifer Lopez-esque popularity.
It's along the lines of "holy crap, that new Apple running on Intel rocks!" level of popularity. (read: it's popular, but not that much that it garners the attention of people who don't give a crap about these things)

I love these forums, we have japanese people living in japan that are active here, lol Kj1980, you have dispelled many of the myths i belived about japan.
Is that sort of popularity likely to produce a new series,
Yeah, Im wondering the same. I dont know really if I can carry on without any new FMP anime.

Oh definitely. Like I said, it is popular enough to have a considerable fan-base - just like there are devoted fans of Blade in your country,of course that does not mean you have a huge portion of 40,50 year olds in your country reading Blade comics.
So maybe down the road, we'll see or hear something. Until then, questions pertaining to these will not be answered as there is nothing definitive yet (i.e.: an animator blurting it out on his blog, and official statement in an anime magazine, or in the usual case - when it appears on Moonphase)
Like I said, PROBABLY, BUT NO INFO IS OUT YET

yeah... I hate it when there's so much more to expect but they cut it or stop operation due to lack of funding or something like that... and it would really blow if there's no fourth season for FMP. I'm still recoverying from GTO and that was years ago... they should get some people together and do GTO 2, animated of course.
What do you guys think of making a Dancing Ver Merry Christmas into a movie anime. The whole story really takes place within one night and even the structure of the events seems to lend itself more to a feature than to a series. Whereas COMO carries on with the same drama and darker story that we saw happening in TSR.

There are no guarantees that there will be since there never are (IE Kare Kano as an example rawr) but I would assume yes since the anime is extermly popular here in states. To my knowledge there are 3 other main story line novels after day by day (the novel TSR was based on unless im mistaken)
I really hope they do make another however I would prefer it all in one shot like a 20-40 episode anime depending on many more Novels Gatoh intends to go for, (and off topic I BETTER GET MY SOUSUKE KANAME KISS or there will be hell to pay) lol :P

I can definitely see your point, but for me personally, I would like numerous shorter seasons like TSR then craming it all into one. I think that way they can concentrate more on each individual episode, as well as the quality. Plus it leaves you something to look forward too ;)

I hear you, however my worry with that is ..time, we may wind up waiting years if they do each novel seperetly, but either way ill be happy if they finish the anime.

What about it? That's kinda old news.
Hi all,
New here, I absolutely loved FMP and the Second Raid, Fumoffu initially left me a bit dry until I watched it with friends and found it to be magnificently funny.
Loved the Tessa OVA and I would be in heaven if they do a third season (following FMP and 2nd raid) so the main reason for me posting here is to get any early news from this thread if anyone posts anything.
Oh yeah is the manga worth reading?

NoSanninWa
2006-08-11, 01:26
Possible, but not very likely. It is more probable that the funny episodes will be integrated with the drama when they make the next season.
Remember that Fumoffu was made out of the humorous episodes that were deleted from the first season and then they increased the series length by adding some humorous episodes that would have been in Second Raid.
Still, it is possible that they will divide the fourth season of FMP into separate humorous and dramatic sections.
Still, it is possible that they will divide the fourth season of FMP into separate humorous and dramatic sections. Well I hope they lean towards the drama a little bit more than the comedy. I loved the first series and Fumoffu, but I kinda favoured the slightly more dramatic style of TSR.
Killa_hurtz
2006-08-22, 15:42
(SPOILERS MAY VERY WELL APPEAR IN THIS THREAD UNMARKED)
Reasons why I believe it will
TSR, a 13 episodes series, is based off the "End of Day by Day" novels, of which there are two.
However, in the case of "A Dancing Very Merry Christmas" and "Continuing On My Own", they are both only a one novel story arc which, given the trend of the anime, would equal to roughly 5-8 episodes each, with minimum dragging out time that is.
So what are your thoughts on it? How would it make you feel if the season ended on such a huge cliffhanger of...
Kaname being abducted by Leonard
Do tell, and feel free to be as open about it you want.
Killa_hurtz
2006-08-22, 16:48
Well I hope they lean towards the drama a little bit more than the comedy. I loved the first series and Fumoffu, but I kinda favoured the slightly more dramatic style of TSR.
As did I, FUMOFFU was great, but IMO TSR blew both previous seasons out of the water (pun not intended).
But in reality though, with making the next anime series, it all depends on where they want to make the stopping point, which will be hard to do given the finish to COMO. It is unknown how fans will react should the season not end on a happy note, which COMO does.
They could take the risk and try it, or they could just be waiting until the novels come to a close to finish the anime...no one knows, either choice could turn fans off to it so they want to be careful, you could say it's a lose lose situation.
I personally wouldn't mind at all with the next season ending on such a melodramatic cliffhanger of COMO as it would be insentive for me to keep watching.
However, there is one thing that is half-way certain. The company in charge of animating FMP, Kyoto Animation, stated that the popularity of FMP was strong and loyal enough for a new series to be made roughly every 2 years. This means that at the very earliest the next season could be out in May-June 2007

I haven't read the novels yet, but from what I've heard from their plots, I agree with you. :)
I strongly reccomend them, especially if you have watched all 3 previous anime series. The strong background with the anime allows the reader to have have better consentration when picturing things like characters, surroundings, actions, voices, and the like.
I read both of the un-animated novels in two days, they were simply amazing in terms of plot. Impatience got the better of me :)

If that is the case, then I would be satisfied in knowing that they would be creating a series to FOLLOW that cliffhanger!!!
And then we'd have Kami and co and more Wraith and Mao kicking butt and the whole De Danaan resurrection and more Sosuke and Kaname stuff...

Kinda figured that it wasn't sound as well, but it sure did catch my attention at first glance. Blahh if only she had proof to back up that statement. :(
Rumours like that aren't substantial, so don't bother believing them.
However, I'd say based on the sheer popularity of the series as well as the novel content available, there's bound to be another season.
They didn't put out the Tessa OVA for nothing.
I'd say the best guess is next year this time. ;)
It'll be kind of weird though, since the time between the first and last showing will be 5 years, while the entire story takes place in the time span of 1 or maybe 2 years.
I'm starting to feel old compared to the main characters. :p

First post here, been kinda in the shadows of the anime world, and up until recently
I broke my habbits of WoW (world of warcraft) and put my time into anime to keep me away.
I gotta say besides Eureka seven, and bleach. This anime has bar far taken me in, I watched all of fmp, fmpf, tsr several times.
And like for the last 4 hours ive been looking for clues on to hints of a new FMP finding out *rumor control* about the new Series, I got so impatient I screwed up and read the novels past TSR am venting I guess, I found a good source of the translated Novels up to COMO if anyone wants respond to me on Aim ssxair or in the thread. But this forum is pretty resourceful on the topic, sorry if this doesnt go along with what you guys were originaly posting, I just got attatched to this thread.
As corny as this sounds, and as much as I wanna see f***** kaname and sousuke do SOMETHING
that involves intimacy and how pissed off I am that her first kiss got stolen by leonard, like honestly after I saw that in my (sealed windows, door locked sodas, secluded room) I almost felt tainted by it and changed my mood completely, which in ways is good and bad, like, it gave me that indepth dark sense of feeling violated but almost pissed off even as she was confused she allowed it to go on that long before realizing oh yah this guys sucking my face off.(Even tho I dont know him, do I like it?) followed by that Oh yah btw I love you. I honestly thought she was about to close her eyes before she slapped him, just man that tsr really put a twist in it aside from the first fmp. The ending kinda spunged it up but left me hanging right before sousuke was making his move they had to get interrupted.
**Read any further will spoil the surprise after TSR**
For those who have read the novels, like even if you dont respond gotta say I hope they put some kind of twist into the ending of como or some form of alternate or lengthening ending or something cause, as much As I can get into it, it makes the experience so much more when u put yourself into it, and after reading it with nothing more then my immagination what kaname decides in the end after all that sousuke did for her and everyone put a sharp one in me, man I honestly cant sleep after reading the last part after Como. Next novel please!
**Spoiler ended**.
sorry if this post sucks :P

I don't think theres any solid details, the novels are a few seasons ahead of the anime and it would be a shame if they don't animate it. As long as there is a strong and loyal fanbase then I would place my bet on 'yes there will be.'

Oh and I'm pretty sure FMP is one of the most (top 10) if not the most popular anime. They must continue animating it.

I never disputed that. All I'm saying is that if they've started producing it to be released in 2007, it's going to be late 2007. It's likely they will choose KyoAni, even though KyoAni are currently airing Kanon and possibly producing SHnY.

To be honest, it was only yesterday that I finally got the chance to watch The Second Raid. Honestly, I had no idea that KyoAni did the animation for FMP since Fumoffu, but after seeing TSR, I can say with confidence that with regards to animation, it is better than the one done by Studio GONZO, and I would like to see another season soon.
And I just wish KyoAni would focus on doing another FMP season than a second Haruhi...
Heh... most places I go to have Key-fans and Haruhi-fans begging for the next release of their respective series by KyoAni. Not much chorus from FMP-fans though. :heh:

To be fair, KyoAni have already done 2 seasons of FMP! and the next "likely to be appearing season" of FMP! will be the fourth one in the series. Still doesn't make me want it any less. :D

Company Website(Japanese) (http://www.kyotoanimation.co.jp/index.html)
Company Website(English) (http://www.kyotoanimation.co.jp/data/e/mein/index.html)
Email Address = sr@kyotoanimation.co.jp
Cheers.
XD 1st original idea I heard of in a long time
sr@kyotoanimation.co.jp
thx alot, didn't know their homepage (or even who did FMP).
I wud also like to ask you others to send an email to the studio (Kyoto) and ask them to make a new season (only, ofc, if you want one, which I assume you do)
Cud be good to write that you liked the previous seasons aswell.
thx in advance

Kyoto animation is kinda lazy though, if there currently making other stuff i dont think they'll have FMP being made would they? Unless of course its already been made...
Well, if they get many mails they'll atleast know that there is a big interest in a new season, and maybe that cud convince them to make the new season atleast after the current serie that they work on at moment
I don't think they'd appreciate having emails badgering them to get on with it. :heh: It'll be done when it's done. :p

Okay, instead of mass emails...how about a petition???

KyoAni is not lazy. They just take good care of their employees. They are one of the few animation companies in Japan that do not practice overtime work, and it shows in their work( in a good way).
Cheers.

Im thinking with the current popularity of FMP in the states and in Japan. I'd just say, it be done when its done. Come to think of it, when they were done writing COMO, they produced TSR. I'm thinking when they finish writing the novels, then they will produce the rest of the series.
k :)
any idea how long their current projekt will take, n when the novels will be finished?

well MMD seems to be almost done, but it does look like that there will be another chapter. Looks like it, mind you. lol
If that were the case, I would think they would start making it around this year.
I remember reading on Gatoh's website concerning the completion of FMP. He said that he'd hope to complete everything on the 11th year anniversary. I think FMP started as a novel in 1997 so if that were the case, everything should be completed in the year 2008. Mind you, only speculation. >: 3
thx for the info, I've been looking for it quite a while :D
and...whats "MMD"? :P
+ in late or early 2008 ?
thx for the fast answers ^^

LOL, no, I just been drawing some FMP up a storm on my new drafting table. I think there are 4 main novels, there should be a forum in the FMP area that should give you a accurate answer.
Well, that was accurate enought :)
just wondered, because they didnt use up all incidents (from the novels) in the seasons that exists atm, right?

So what have you done to pass the time since TSR. Have you browsed the FMP forum 3 to 4 times a day or have you rewatched every single episode in the small chance that you didnt catch it the 6th time? Just curious to see if anyone has the same anticipation build up for the next part of FMP. With TSR they opened up a huge area for the series to go and I cant wait to see what they choose to do.
Well, I seem to sit at the forum all day long, trying to come up with something new, completely unecessary, to talk about...

I'm currently making a 3D head of the Laevatein. If only a complete line art is available, I could create the whole AS *sigh*

Did you read this thread at all? I can't count the number of times that question has been asked. And answered.
PS. Your answer is no. Though it is likely to happen at the end of 2007.
I read in another thread that there was a rumour about a new season, but it aint confirmed yet
