how old is Itachi? was it mentioned in the manga? people here keep saying he's 17 but I think he's at least 20. is 17 just a guess or was it mentioned?

I would like to think he's around 20 to 25.. perfect age for a hot powerful guy! <3
Itachi was 13 when he was an Anbu captain. I think that's all we know about his age. 17-18 is just a guess from what I've seen. I think it's reasonable though. Assuming he was about 13-14 when he killed his clan, younger is impossible and since he was an anbu cap he had the power, and seeing how old Sasuke was back then. About 8 years old he looks to me. And since all the other Genin are around twelve years old as well that the massacre had to have happened 4-5 years ago.
And since he's back now that means he should be around 17-18 years old. And who knows. Maybe it says so in the official character book.

Geez man use the search button anyways i will answer your question in the Naruto official character book it was stated that he was 17 now in the Naruto world 1 year has passed so Itachi is 18 now.

It's stated in the 1st Naruto Special Book that he's 17; and, as we know, a whole year has already passed in the series (as implied by the 3rd, by saying that "13 years have passed since the Kyuubi attack"- meaning that Naruto is 13 now; he was 12 at the beginning). So Itachi's 18 now :D
Also, use the search button next time, Kenta-san. There's about 2 threads asking for Itachi's age :p

As an additional information, Itachi:
- Graduated at 7
- Could perfectly use the Sharingan at 8
- Became a Chuunin at 10
- Became ANBU Captain at 13
- Slaughtered the Uchiha clan at 14

Itachi is around the age of 20. Just campare it with Sasuke he must be around the age of 15. At least that is what I think because he is surely at least somewhat older. and btw why doesnt the series never say how old a person is like how old kakashi is..

It was the time of war so Chuunin's were needed. Thats why he became chuunin at that age. Use the search button you will get threads that will explain more.

Naruto failed 3 times, but he didn't "repeat" three years. If you fail the final exam, you're able to try it again a few months later. Also, the exams aren't always the same. Naruto himself said he was unlucky to get 3 Bunshin exams in a row.
Anyways, it's a fact they're the same age, since it's stated in the special book :D

Maybe they celebrated Sasuke's birthday, it just didn't appear in the manga ^^

Thank you, Vicious. I knew there had to be some sort of reasoning behind it, that reason wasn't very obvious to me after watching the anime and reading the manga though i'm still new to Naruto. (Having only watched the anime's and read all the manga once and very recently, in two weeks time :heh: )
and now... off to read the "special" books! Thanks again :P

Yea, kakashi graduated at 5 and chuunin at 6. But i heard from somewhere that he became chuunin that early because it was in the midst of a war at the time and they needed more soldiers. And hes a genious of course. :uhoh:

I took it that Naruto just entered the academy before they did. From the flashback alot of the gennins got taught skills at home way befor they entered the academy. Also with Kakashi saying he became a chuunin at 6 to me shows that you can enter at young ages. Even if you put it in years Naruto failed 3 times and past the 4 time which could be the same yearr all the others entered the academy. The same can be said if someone was to skip some grades and school and fail a few he still could end up graduating with his age group even though he started school before them. Besides I think Iruka was Naruto's teacher all the times he went to school. From what he showed at the beginning he doesn't want nothing other then the best from Naruto and won't let he passed on anything other then properly doing it not well he did it somewhat.

like the technical specs for a Gundam (yeah, like it really matters what fictional brand engine they use) - it's just kind of cool to know.
If Itachi WAS thirteen at the time of the flashback...well...puberty...imagine the most dangerous ninja in the world sounding like that pimply-faced teen from the Simpsons... :heh:

Yes, his body, face, and voice were way too mature for a 13-year-old, but we have to understand that these aren't ordinary kids playing around and going to school...this guy was a chuunin by age 10 and doing missions killing people; I would suspect under such condition one would mature faster...well, mentally at least. But regardless of what we think, he was set to be 13 by Kishimoto at the time of the Uchiha massacre, and Kishimoto's words = truth. ^_^;;

You guys had it right though, he was around 13 at the time of the massacre. Its weird he was portrayed as being so mature though.
