Why does Izumi put her child back into the gate after she tries to bring it back to life and it screws up?
i mean... whats the point? What does it do?
Guess she knew it wasnt human, and probly knew exactly what it would grow up to be.
Beats the heck out of me. Logically I couldn't see why she did so or how she thought of it. Anyway, the usual options a parent on seeing a deformed birth has, are:
1. Kill the child.
2. Raise the child, trying to accept the defects.
3. Abandon the child. Let someone else (nature included) kill the child.
4. Abandon the child at someone's doorstep. Let someone else raise/kill the child.
Maybe it was option 4 she was thinking of.
with a child that scary looking, even i would abadon it, probably, might. But it is a scary thing, but i would probably be sad. Really sad...

I think it has something similar to what Ed said. When he stood before the gate, he could feel tremendous amounts of knowledge flowing into him. I think it was something similar with Izumi. When she regained consciousness and saw the child she realized what it would become and wanted to return it having realized her mistake.
Izumi, without ever having seen a full grown humoncolous, knew what they were and how they were created. I have no doubt she learned this from the gate, which is why she tried to return it.
The fact that humoncolous are the products of human transmution can also mean that Sloth in the television series is, in fact, Ed and Al's mother...

i dont understand u that well Yebyosh
That could be so, seems that Greed and Envy are the oldest sins, but Sloth seems to be older than Lust which seems pretty old, so maybe not.

Sloth is the youngest Sin before Wrath, this was revealed already. Lust is likely the second youngest after Sloth. Gluttony, Envy and Greed (And possibly Pride) are the oldilock generation I wager...
Wrath said that he was in the gate and while waiting he grew larger, possible for any homonculus to do that too ? dont seem gluttony growing now and then
Gluttony has definately done a lot of growing. Just look at his gut!

Sloth took the place of Juilet Douglas, who started the Ishbal revolution by shooting an unarmed child 10 years before Trisha Elric even died, bit hard for Sloth to be their mother if that's true.

Thanks :) Total props to Lunchboxx for taking his free-time to make avatars for us less fortunate!
I gotta wonder how that kid turned from the freaky messed up crack-alien baby with no eyes or hair in to what he is now! I mean aside from the whole arm leg thing
But does Wrath's face not bear a striking resemblance to young Al?

Youve got to take into account artistic differentiation, subtle differences are harder to draw than obvious ones. If it was Izumi's kid, he should look more like his mother that's for sure.
Sloth took the place of Juilet Douglas, who started the Ishbal revolution by shooting an unarmed child 10 years before Trisha Elric even died, bit hard for Sloth to be their mother if that's true.
took the place of a dead person , but are the looks the same ... the anime did not say right..
i guess resembling people is just what the authors want, dont think thats any connections between her and Al

Sloth could be using the real (and dead) Juliet Douglas's identity.
There's no direct connection between the two other than the name as identified by Hughes - in the anime anyway. Sloth first appearance in the anime was well after Trisha's death....

Spoilerific ideas ahead:
One thing is for sure, this dang gate is really screwing up all perceptions of what "The Principal of Equivilant Trade" truely means. Prehaps that is The Truth that they allude to?
I guess it makes sense that all the Homunclus are named after sins, after all that's what they're "born" out of. I wonder what will become of the 1/2 Ed 1/2 Izumi kid?

Considering the sins do share information, and the way in which they are created. It is quite logical to assume that the person who was using the name Juilet Douglas (most likly sloth) was killed in the Ishbal revolution. After all, people who start wars like that rarely survive them. After having been destroyed in the war, she waited for a new body behind the gate. She then recived Trisha Elric's body from Ed and Al.
The time line of events fit togeather, but it is also possible they discuss plans and events when they are sealed behind that gate. So any of the sins may have known that name, and used it to further all of thier goals.

If they are products of human transmutation, then who has Al's body? Gluttony?
If they are products of human transmutation, then who has Al's body? Gluttony?
gluttony was created before Al

i assume that sloth is trisha elric and i dont know how but i am thinking envy is al or it could possibly be lust  or his body could still be behind the gate or wrath could be both all and ed's missing pieces the deformed body fixed by taking al's then for some reason he took ed's arm and leg. all and all wrath doesnt look very deformed until after he eats the red rocks
If they are products of human transmutation, then who has Al's body? Gluttony?
maybe that al's body will be pride later...

Nobody. Ed didn't attempt to raise Al with human transmutation, he used Soul Alechemy. Also, Al lost his body in this world, not the other. The reason that Wrath got Ed's arm and leg is because Ed was in that world when he lost them. That's why none of the other sins are a patchwork of limbs like Wrath is. I think Ed did something rather remarkable to loose those limbs in that way.
If they are products of human transmutation, then who has Al's body? Gluttony?
A Homunculus can only get a body when a human attempts to create/recreate a human body with alchemy. No one ever tried to recreate Al's body, so no one has Al's body.
If they are products of human transmutation, then who has Al's body? Gluttony?
But remember in the starting, Al and Ed tried to revive their mother with human transmutation, so Al's body should have been given to make a new Homuculus, unless the body is just discarded out of the story..., just as USBport said there was noone who used transmutation to create Al's Body, but as the equivalent trade goes, they first sacrifice something to gain another. So edward use the leg for the mother, and the arm for Al. Aslong they use human transmutation, their body/limbs are still given to make a new Homunculus.
