does anyone else think that we are going to see the paper showing up soon?

Kinda spoilerish below, I guess, I'm not boxing it though. ^^ I actually thought the three sisters were going to go find Yomiko after Nenene was taken. I think Maggie grabs the locket with her picture or something. Instead they just went after Nenene directly. It is a 26 ep series, though, isn't it? So I guess they didn't have to get her in as quick as I was thinking.

I'm still reeling from that plot twist in Episode 11. Still...
Joker mentioned that someone was looking for Nenene...so I'm thinking Yomiko may be back on the trail, even if she's not shown up yet. Joker may or may NOT be the good guy this time, considering the manga storyline ended with him as a bad guy, so I don't know who the good guys are anymore. They're so good at leaving me hanging! AHHH!
...I actually thought the three sisters were going to go find Yomiko after Nenene was taken...
i thought that they were going to find Yomiko then also, or that Yomiko would interfer in the abduction. i think this series turning out pretty well except for one or two episodes so far.
why would they go to find yomiko when nenene was just kidnapped in front of them? wouldn't it make sense to get nenene back first since she was drugged and all?
Yomiko could have shown up and stopped the kidnapping or afterwards to help. they need something, cause they sure as hell arent going threw the male paper user(his name escapes me currently, i blame hamlet), he will turn them into tiny, little, bloody cubes. its already been shown they cant block his indirect attacks.

His name is Sunny Wong AFAIK. I'm thinking the fight will get interrupted by one of the things Junior & Joker are up to - Sunny is too good a villain to get rid of now, isn't he? Of course with my track record on guesses it will probably turn out those people speculating he is Yomiko will actually be right, lol.
>wouldn't it make sense to get nenene back first
Well I didn't think they would be able to go straight to where Nenene was. Also at the kidnapping they were overpowered by just a bunch of Dokusensha goons who didn't even hose them down with water or anything - who'd have thunk they could take on Dokusensha's entire building? ^^ Besides, the title of the episode had paper in it...
isnt Sunny Wong the guy with the pigeon?
does anyone else think that we are going to see the paper showing up soon?
Why does everyone think yomiko is going to show up.... the manga that this is based on doesnt have her, the creator even denied putting yomiko in iirc...

>isnt Sunny Wong the guy with the pigeon?
Just watch ep 9 again, Maggie calls the trench coat guy Wong when they meet in the cave while she's lost. The mustachioed Chinese guy is Kim (could be Kin, I forget which they use and the kanji can go either way ^^) but it's also mentioned in that ep.
>Why does everyone think yomiko is going to show up..
Aww, you're no fun. We're just hoping for a cameo, not for her to come in and take over the show or anything. ^^
Edit: spelling. BTW, did anyone see Yomiko's shadow in the flames in ep 6?

hadnt heard that.

As it stands they haven't fought wong(?) yet. Yomiko could jump in during the fight and help them out abit.while i don't the the three I think this fight near impossible for them without something intervening. recalling what happen at the the onsen in previous episodes., this paper user is no joke.
plus at the the end as they were gathering paper...a lot of it it was sucked away.
with limited ammo and already being worn out from the last fight I think some body pretty stong would have to intervene and help them out a bit.
if it were not yomiko her self It would either be joker-san,with some alterior motvie of courseas he is technically a villian, or on of his helpers. but some body as stong as Yomiko would definately turn the tables. wI could possibly see drake san helping them with draw the to regroup or add a plot twist but beating him would near impossible in my opinion.
What about Junoir-san he might actually step in to help Anita when shes on the verge of getting killed by Wong. I think its too early in the series for Yomiko to show up yet. I doubt Joker-san would help them, but I could be wrong.

junior-san is nice possiblity. think bot this some more if Yomiko were to show up now she would either ave to stay is the series or conviently disappear agian just Nenene comes to.
junior-san is a person i hadnt thought of helping them. as for yomiko disappering it wouldnt be the first time that that was done in a series.

I think Junior will help out Anita because she's the first friend he's ever had probably and will want to help keep her safe.
I don't see how they can beat Sonny Wong(I didn't know his name either. :) but he's ultra-strong.
I don't understand why the building just didn't trigger the sprinkler. We've seen the girls be beaten by wet paper before. Altho the whole building raid was cool. It was like a paper version of the Matrix Morpheus rescue in the first one ;)
I'm still shocked Lee turned out to be a bad guy. I never got the impression he was anything other then a big fan of Nenene's.

I have I feeline lee will be oe those bad guy redemtion stories....he'll either die helping nenene. or he will help them in some way in the end and will be let off the hook.
That said I'm real cofident that anita-chan and crew will be safe...I more worried about joker-san ambitions. If yomiko-san is i the series at all she have to be tied in with Joker-san. and of course I think junior-san will end having to fight Anita-chan.
well this is still all speculation.
Does anyone know when the first R1 DVD for this series is coming out? Geneon's old website is not being updated. :(

Ymm, colour me confused by that, but what are you talking about? Far as I know, there have only been two ROD serieses, the OVA, and this one. Since Yomiko didnt dissipear during the OVAs, what other dissapearance of hers are you referring to?

No, she does not. That is a recap, not a guest appearance. They are trying to imply that was her voice at the end of 13 however since the message card is sitting on top of a picture of her.
Well it is yomiko's voice at the end...

really, too bad after seeing ep13 I really thought we get to see Yomiko in the next episode. by the way ep13 was awesome too bad
HK is is under water, all those ppl didnt deserve too die, all well at least the main charaters didnt die but too bad for Lee-san he even tried to redeem himself at the end.
Episode 13 was an awesome, awesome episode. :) They were able to fit so much action and plot in to that episode and still make it coherent. I hope Wong makes a reappearance in the future. He's too good of a villain to get rid of already. I loved how he turned Maggie's snake in to two javelins and how he impaled that paper tiger in the beginning. :p
Gah.....13 was awesome and I wondered how anita gets to go to school japan again...but they didn't have take out the whole city. a couple of million people diedthat shouldn't have, I don't know whats worse, them dying or my being happy that anita can go to school in japan again.

The ending for 13 left me with mixed emotions as well...I thought the self destruct when triggered was limited to just the building since an announcement was made for everyone inside to evacuate the facility. Perhaps Joker and Wendy thought the same thing since they were in a building that belonged to the enemy and might not have known all of it's secrets. Or maybe both the British and Chinese sides in this just don't care what they destroy or how many people die along the way so long as they can reach their ultimate goal.
After watching 14 the recap appears to leave the only likely candidates for the position of "good guys" being The Paper, the three paper sisters, the author, and maybe Junior depending on how things turn out. Wish the episode provided additional background info on Junior though...like whether he was created artificially from Nancy's cells since he seems to share her ability to shift part or all of his body out of phase at will so objects pass harmlessly through him.

Guys. Someone has to explain to me what when down in episode 13, please. Why did the building self destruct? Why did it take China with it? What was the "committee" that abandoned the institution? I don't know if I missed something in a past episode or what, but I was just totally confused. :(
Also, I was under the impression that water was the bane of the paper users. How did Anita's paper bubble and Maggies gondola not get soaked after the flood? Was that paper laminated?

Well the building self destructed becuased it was the will of "the committee" wanted to abandon the facility. Well it only took out hong kong (probably just hk island, not sure). Mr.Joker probably had something to do with it too, remember the helicopter scene with the box...there are still questions remained unanswered even after epsiode 14...
As for water and paper issue...it's really an open thing...recall in the OVA Yumiko used a soaked paper to pick a lock, and in the Manga Yumiko battled a fire user with paper...

They blew up the building to cover their activities. Pretty dramatic response to the three sister's infiltration, but I guess they've got the resources to justify it. The "committee" seems to be the governing group of Dokusensha (sp??).

This comes down to power. It was specified in the manga that Yomiko's power is so strong that paper will even defend her if it is burned to ash. She also uses soggy paper in the OVA. Let's just say that this is evidence that Anita's power is stronger than anyone suspects. Perhaps if she accepts her affection for reading, she might be strong enough to beat Wong.
just seen ep14, found it quite informative of what the hell was going on
From this epsiode it was Yomiko's voice on that anwsering machine in Nene's house because Junoir saved the message onto a sony memory stick which he later gave to that british girl. Too bad we didnt get to see Yomiko, it was an recap, maybe we get to see her in the next episode or so.
14 filled in all the needed details between the OVA and the series. I am not one to like recaps but this was a very good episode.
in my opinion it is no long clear who is the true "bad guy" I think the next pair of episodes will clear that up though

That would be a viable explanation, though the fact remains that the water/paper thing has been inconsistent. Not just between the show and the OVA. Just a few episodes ago (I think it was the boobie episode - I coulda sword it was the one with Drake in it) the sister's water got splashed and all the sudden it was too soggy for them to use, now in 13 they are completely submerged and able to control it? Not to mention maggie was even able use paper as a boat. It wasn't just Anita in 13 who used wet water.
As for the explanation for why they sank Hong Kong, it still sounds kind of ludicrous to me. There was no real reason behind it that I can tell. I've rewatched the scene at the beginning of the evac, and the only thing I can tell, they just stuck the book in the machine and the "no" light popped up. Does anyone know what that was referring to? And who the hell is Joker talking to in that scene? From about 10:00, to 10:20? The only other person in the room is Wendy, and he's not on the phone. Is he talking to the commitee? If so, anyone know how? Am I being needlessly confused by stuff that doesn't have answers, yet will probably be answered soon? I'm really loving this show, but these last few episodes have just given me a huge headache, regardless of all the great action in them. :)

I think one explanation is that if water touches paper before they can change its form then they are unable to use it. Yomiko, however, used the piece of paper in her hair that was floating in water so it doesnt hold for her or maybe the writers just thought "screw it, we cant explain it either".

Looked like Dokusensha sunk Honk Kong to cover their activities. From what was shown in ep 14, the books carry...... I dont know what the 'no' button was for though. I thought Joker was talking to the Dokusensha people on the computer screen. Watch ep 14, it fills in a lot of gaps

Heh, I feel bad for reccomending this seris to a friend of mine now - I'll have to let him now to stop watching until he gets the OVA or Episode 14 will utterly ruin it.
14 answers a few nagging questions (ESPECIALLY the ones hanging around from the OAVs - who the Ijin were and why they existed was bothering me forever!), but opens up even more - in particular, just who was responsible for sinking Hong Kong? I had gotten the impression Joker had something to with it...and he is REALLY creeping me out the more I see him. Since I know he turned out to be a bad guy in the manga, I've had so many suspicions of him.
Oh, and I think Episode 14 easily removes the whole ROD series from normal continuity, because I sure don't remember Great Britain being throw out of the UN in 2000:) Though I had my suspicions the world was meant to be separate when Episode 2 showed the George W. Bush parody to be named "al Gore." Oh, and now I can't get David Bowie out of my head...Jiggy Stardust indeed...

Well I was once a HK resident so I was kinda mad that they'd sunk my native home.
Anyways, here is a bit of geography lesson. Hong Kong is made up of 2 large islands and a peninsula (ignore the remaining small islands) From what I can tell, it was only the Hong Kong Island that went submerge, while the Kowloon Peninsula and the Lantau Island remain surfaced ...
Episode 14 really solve a lot of mysteries.
I was wondering, why they were so desperated to find yomiko??? Were they trying to use her as a host for "Mr.Gentleman mind transfer project?" (Since yomiko reads a lot of books and she holds a lot of knowledge.)

As for the water vs. paper issue, in episode 9, there was two instances of water "winning" against paper, but first time is when the paper is still paper [not imbued with power yet] while the second time in the cavern, one can see that Michele's bow turn to soggy paper after hit by water, so it seems like water can have effect on both situation.
While the idea about stronger paper power could overcome water could be true and definitely sounds plausible to me, I have made one observation from the TV series (don't remember the OVA so well now). That is both times the water that were "thrown" at those paper users is warm water. First time was hot tea and second time, warm water from the "lake". Remember there was some sort of light inside the dome that makes the water warm.
Guess that would be one possible way to explain the boat and bubble from Episode 13 for now.
it sounds like joker is going to go find yomiko at the end of ep 14. am i on crack?

Nope, they know where Nenene is so he's definitely talking about Agent Paper. Episode 14 was a lot of clips, but they really explained much of the plot and questions so I don't have a problem with it. It was nice to hear straight talk for a change ;)
Man, Great Britain really fell on hard times? Bankruptcy and kicked out of the UN? For what? Was it genetic cloning of the I-gins?

they dont really explain why, guess we can just make up our own reasons, must be the accents, pissed off bush/gore/who ever is president then/in charge finally. id say that this series probably improving a little as each episode goes by. also is there a way to change a thread title, i think we should rename this thread to general rod tv if possible.

maybe they need a certain amount of time to prepare to deal with water/paper interaction. a little general, vague, and possibly idotic idea, but one way to look at it.

I still say it's too early to say...
if you just think who joker knows that wear glasses, it could be of course, yumiko. However it could also be nenene (if the chinese were intrested in her, surly the british will)...also could be nancy's sister (well kinda far fetched but she did wear glasses)...if you think about after that joker receiving the report, it seems yumiko is what he's refering at...but then again, they probably thought nenene would be the key to yumiko like wendy said in the report...
but i'm just as anxious to see Yumiko again

I think it might also have to deal with how the water is used. When they were floating around, it's not like the water was attacking them, so perhaps as long as there's no ill-intent on the part of the water :/
And in the manga, paper CAN overcome fire, if it were strong enough, so maybe since the boat was in such a defensive position and reinforced, etc, that it could withstand the water?
the power of the user/need/time probably have something to do with it. thats my theory. also there is the need to have the characters survive(sp).
-thanks to who ever edited the thread title.
Paper vs Fire is seen in OVA episode 2, where Yomiko fights the Ijin who sits on the cloud and uses Goku's Staff. (forget his name)
I don't recall all the details, but he imbues his staff with fire and yomiko uses a few sheets of paper, even to the last ash, to defend herself.
Another more evident case is when Yomiko lures him near the submarine so Drake san can fire a torpedo at him. Here, Yomiko uses an entire suitcase of paper to form a sphere and manages to survive the "point blank" explosion of the torpedo.
About the explosion part, could it be she's shielding herself against the wind blast itself and not the heat energy? About the earlier event, you do have a point, but her paper was burning (ashes).
15 has been subbed.
fairly good episode, Yomiko is definitly part of the series as well.
Yay we got to see Yomiko again in ep15. For a woman 30 years old I find her personality so cute almost childlike. lol I can't believe she ran from Nenene when they finally get to see each other again. Too bad Joker-san crashed their little reunion, I figure he had already known where Yomiko was located and set a trap for Nenene and her gang, or one of them was bugged. So now he has both Nenene and Yomiko and plus the other three paper users all together. Also I think Yomiko new friend might be a spy for Joker-san too. Good episode nontheless, but actually seeing Yomiko running away from Nenene like that was just so damn funny.

Euhm,
didnt you see the OVA? Thats the girl yomoko is with at the end of it. Iam not sure, in the OVA they say is Nancy (ms Deep) her sister. She had something like amnesia or so, dont really know, but yomoko kinda promised to miss Deep that she would take care of her.
Anyway, its kinda obvious that the kid Anita is friends with, (the other ms deep like character. (ie movind through walls and such) is Nancy's kid. (although nancy looks like 2/3 years older then anita is)
it was a very cool episode though :)

hrm I thought Nancy might be juniors mom, but then she said it was a girl rather than a boy (junior is a boy right?). SHe didn't seem to like that guy very much. It also seems yomiko would stay there just so she can be with her for some reason.

The woman is the clone of Nancy from the end of the OVA. Nancy held her underwater until she passed out so she could save Yomiko. The clone suffered brain damage and wound up with amnesia, and I suppose the childlike personality. Before Nancy left Yomiko at the end, she left her a note to take care of her "little sister" - that's the Nancy staying with Yomiko now. The paper butterfly was a direct reference to the last scene in the OVA, because clone Nancy was trying to make an origami crane, and Yomiko made the butterfly to cheer her up. That's why Nancy was so happy to see the butterfly.
So now the question is - just how much danger does Joker represent, especially now that he's found the girls?

I so want to buy this when it comes out on DVD. Plus I want to finish watching them. Is sooooooo (I meant to do that) good. I still need to buy the OVAs. :)
isnt it kinda annoying that Yomiko hasnt really particpated in any of the fight scenes, i want to see how bing the difference in power is, if any

If you havent seen the OVA, I highly suggest it since there is quite a bit of background info you are missing if you dont. Anyway, we got to see that Yomiko is definitely more powerful since she blocked the water guns with her paper wall while the other girls were helpless. Also, its almost certain that Junior is Nancy's child (maybe clone) and Nancy never said whether the child was a boy or girl. You must have seen a bad translation.
hrm I thought Nancy might be juniors mom, but then she said it was a girl rather than a boy (junior is a boy right?). SHe didn't seem to like that guy very much. It also seems yomiko would stay there just so she can be with her for some reason.
For Nancy to be Junior’s mother, she would have been like 18 at the time of his birth ( I seem to recall that in OVA, Joker said Nancy was 26), that’s considering if Junior is currently like 13 years old, the youngest age for a junior high schooler. But since all “Nancy” are clone; that means they were never 18. They were just created like five years ago and have adult form as 20-something right away. Of course, Nancy-2 could have a child during this five-year period. But then the child would have been only 5 now. Junior really doesn’t look like a five-year-old to me. On the other hand, they have this complex genetic technology, which they can use to create just about anyone. They could have used it to create Junior from Nancy’s genes, I suppose. That way, it doesn’t matter how old Nancy-1 or -2 was, and Junior can still have her phasing power. But, then, if they have the technology to create a person, they might just have a way to “speed up” the growth, too. So Junior might be a five-year-old but looks like a 13 year-old.
I just finished watching the first 16 episodes of R.O.D TV and I must say that it gets interesting with each episode. I put the series on the back-burner for awhile because I have too much anime to watch, but I am glad that I was finally able to make it here. I don't really have anything to add to the discussion except that I am looking forward to next episodes as I am interested to see what "The Paper" done that was so horrible. Great series!!

Yeah I really like how the last three episodes tied themselves with the OVA so much, it really explains alot and makes the OVA a bit more meaningful too.
Now what could Yoriko have done that cause all of the people in the British Library to hate her so much? Burn the library up or something?

She ran away, thus betrayed them. On top of that she wouldn't give them the book she was guarding. So they did the one thing that would upset her the most, burn as many books as they can.

Yeah, liked the name they gave the book burning operation, "fahrenheit 451", a great Ray Bradbury book by the way.

Whoo it's Yomiko! And Nancy! Well Nancy's clone who's kinda brain-damaged. But hey, I'll take it.
BTW, Anita keeps having flashbacks to a fire with books burning, was she at the burning/destruction of the British Library?
It was hella cool when Nancy grabbed onto Junior and he couldn't phase through her. Heh, the look on his face was funny.
And I agree, Operation 451 is an appropriate name for the operation.

I think Yomiko burned down the Brithish Library, or at least is responsible for it. That's the horrible thing they were talking about. What I would like to know is why. I am almost certain that Nancy the clone and her child are involved. Also, Yomiko took the book because she knew how Joker was going to use it, bad. It seems that Joker and the rest of the members of special force are willing to forgive her, according to Joker. Yomiko burning down the British Library.... I just cannot believe it. This is a woman who is addicted to, or obsessed with, books. Burning one book is already unspeakable crime to her, not mention the whole the British Library. She burned down the British Library in order to protect Nancy???? Some say it is reasonable enough. Maybe it is for anybody else, but Yomiko?? She is the biggest book lover I have ever seen in my life. I thought given the choice, between protecting Nancy, maybe her child too, and burning down the British Library (plus hurting her colleague in the process), she would have given up both! When Wendy was burning the books collected from the whole town, she looked like she was about to give up, and it was just the books from a town. Wow, she really went that far to defend Nancy? But again, she stopped by that place risking being exposed, just to retrieve the bookmark Nancy left her in the OAV. Who knows?

I have a question, if Nancy-san said she had a son, and Junior uses the same technique as nancy-san, then is it possible that Junior is Nancy-san's son?
< doh >
We'll, it seems possible.
I have a question, if Nancy-san said she had a son, and Junior uses the same technique as nancy-san, then is it possible that Junior is Nancy-san's son?Unknown; it's never been established that powers are hereditary.
Yeah, episode 16 does imply that Yomiko did indeed burn down the British Library, for what purpose no one knows....which also sent a horrible rippling affect towards Anita as well..So it looks like Yomiko may have killed Anita's parents. Hmm, Yomiko's case is getting more interesting by the minute.
And, I was pondering some questions that maybe or not could be answered:
How old was Yomiko when she first learned how to "use" paper?
Who taught her how?
Who was the first to use paper power? (Sounds silly, I know)
Do you think Nenne has hidden abilities to whereas she could use paper like Yomiko and the "Three Sisters"?
How did the powers come about?
These were random questions I were thinking about today because I haven't read any of the manga and I am basically going off the OAV and the T.V. series. But in any case with each new episdde that arrives more questions come about, that what intrigues me most about this series.

Read the manga version of R.O.D. ("Read or Die," not the "Read or Dream" one)
Your answers:
A. Around her mid-teens
B. Donny Nakajima
C. its been passed on from master to disciple
D. No. She is just an author. If you consider debuting as an author while in high school as a talent, then her's would be "a great storywriter" who has a writer's block

I just watched the raw of episode 17. Things are definitely getting exciting.
Drake returns and it's revealed that Nancy is Junior's mother.
Well of couse Nancy is the mother. What I'm more interested in is how did it come about. I don't mean the birds and the bees, I mean Nancy reaction to Joker. Is he the father? Is there anything sinister about how Junior was conceived?

Your answers are told in Ep 18 when Yomiko starts to tell what happened in the past six years.
A. Junior's parents are Nancy and Ikkyu Soujun (Nancy's lover, see OVA)
B. As a pure bred child of two ijins, the the Royal British Library took away Nancy's child so they can make him as a replacement for "the gentleman."
C. six years, yet Junior is grown to be the same age as Anita. Another of the Royal British Library's experiments in the search to "save the gentleman's" knowledge.
D. Yomiko got into an argument with Joker for the British Library taking Nancy's child away like that. She confronts Joker with why the library would do such an awful thing....that Nancy's child being "used" nothing more than a tool by the British Library to weld a "new gentleman."
E. During the argument, Joker spills the beans on what happened to Yomiko's teacher and lover, Donny Nakajima...that he is alive...but apparently a victim of British Library's experiments in finding a "new gentleman." Nothing is seen on the TV screen, but with Yomiko going berserk and destroying the library, Donny Nakajima's state of condition must be really bad...
F. And yes, Yomiko was the one in Anita's nightmare of the burning books

thank you a lot for those answers kj1980. I shouldn't have read them since I'm on eps 16. It just makes me want to watch ROD that much more. :)
Edit: Thank you to quangdiggity. I saw it right after I posted. :)
thanks for everyone about spoiler.
I haven't read manga myself, but I seem to remember hearing some situation in manga which is identical to this one, that Donny Nakajima is still alive and that's the reason why Yomiko burn down the British Library.
Please tell me that the anime doesn't follow the manga exactly. Then what's the point of watching TV series anyway?
And so Yomiko really is the shadowdy figure in Anita's memory. But was Yomiko trying to save Anita or did she not even see Anita there, i.e., two unrelated events? Does Anita know that Yomiko is the one who causes all these?
I don't think that Yomiko and Anita know about each other being there.. they are just caught up in the events together. I would imagine that Anita's parents were killed in the fires caused by Yomiko.
Something I had been wondering about for some time however, is the mention of Drake wanting to get something for his daughter, Maggie. Might this be the same Maggie? Perhaps I'm just losing my mind. Either way, it would be a nice way to tie everything in.
As for Yomiko learning the art of using paper, did the three sisters learn it from some master as well? I dont' recall ever having an explanation of where they got their abilities.. and I would think it to be too huge of a coincidence for the three to all have the abilities when they first met each other that Christmas, so they must have gotten them somehow between that Christmas and the beginning of ROD TV.
I love this show. <3
Awe, i wanna see the raw for ep 17-18 :( I want to know if this series is related to the novels which i'm still trying to get ahold of. Since it's somewhat to the manga. I wonder if anymore paper users will be introduced too. I wonder what other antagonists with powers there will be, i'm betting nakajima will be one.
Drake doesn't say his daughters name is maggie, watch the oav again :D
The manga doesnt explain where or how the 3 sisters learned/received their powers so it's just something youll have to ponder or maybe later it'll be explained.
*Why watch it if it follows the manga*????????? So much anime is done after their manga.......... Its a nice way to see something you love in a different light. Listening to the bg music, colors how theyre used, the emotion behind the voices, soooo much other stuff!

As far as I know, the anime is WRITTEN by the same person as the manga (Hideyuki Kurata), so any sort of differences in the manga and anime are most likely intentional in order to make the story a bit deeper (even though there ARE some critical differences between the two)
And yes, Ep 17-18 are great, they explain so much... We now know what the past is, now it gets even messier since Anita knows that Yomiko's responsible for her bad memories. Can't wait for more.
I wasn't up to watching through the entire OVA again, so I'm not sure if he called Maggie his daughter or not, but I did pause the screen where the subtitles clearly say "Look, I have to get Maggie a gift with this money..." The same money that Yomiko later uses to fight the I-Jin. So that is what makes me wonder. Besides.. we have absolutely no history on Maggie or Michelle from before their meeting.

For some reason i was seeing your post and thinking anita the whole time, he does say maggie, hahah, my bad, was up a little too late :D I highly doubt it's her though since he saw her and there wasn't any kind of response.
  I love those fan groups the next two RODS came out (17 & 18)!!!
EP 17-18 was good, but I do have a question. What condition was Tony Yomikos master/lover in that would make her go crazy like that. Joker-san does mention that he wasn't dead.

Well according to the manga...
Yomiko, in ordered to became the 19th "The Paper", had to kill her lover and teacher, Nakajima Tony. The fact that Joker told her Tony is still alive, and the image that she saw probably drove her on a rampage...

Still would that be enough to make her go berserk like that? I can't help but think there has to be more involved there.
Well I knew Yomiko wouldn't burn down a library deliberately, now that its been confirmed that it wasn't intentional, I'm happy. It'd suck if they had her do something so out of character.
R.O.D. has improved a lot from the eariler character building/filler episodes. The TV series has far surpassed the OVA. With Shingetsutan Tsukihime and KGNE over, ROD is the best anime I'm following right now, though I think these last 2 eps would have put it ahead of KGNE anyway.
So I guess the manga never showed or described what Tony looked liked.
Actually the manga did showed how he looked like...

I was thinking
Any chance that the Dokusensha paper guy is Tony?
It is DONNY Nakajima. Not Tony. I don't know where this mix up came from...
yea yomiko is taking all the blame for everything. it's obvious she killed anita's parents (or caused it) but her lover too? doesn't really explain how her character could do something like that. Maybe she's like that shisho kid in kenshin who smiles all the time. I'm also not sure why joker decided to provoke her like that. burning down that library obviously wasn't in his best interest..
I would like to know more about anita though

My Maggie rant--
Drake does say that his child's name is maggie in the OVA. Also, when maggie introduces herself, drake looks at her in surprise. There are two possibilities 1) Drake is Maggie's father or 2)Maggie just happens to have the same name as Drake's daughter.
I believe Drake is maggie's father just because it is too weird of a coincidence.
Another thing, is that it appears Maggie was being used too when she was younger, or maybe it was just that one incident in the church. She sees how Michelle comforts jr. and remembers when she was on her knees like that in the church.

Wow this series has so completely picked up in pace since the raid to get Nenene back from the Dokushensha building.
I have no idea what happened to Donny that would make Yomiko go insane like that. I was thinking maybe they used his body to house Mr. Gentleman and it turned him into a mirror copy of that old beat-down guy from the OVA. But I think Gentleman was in the books by that point.
I'm going to have to re-watch the OVA to figure out the whole Drake and Maggie-chan connection. I'm leaning to him just wanting to look after her because she shares the same name as his daughter. But I'm not 100% sure that he isn't her Father since I haven't viewed the OVA in awhile so I can't remember if he was visiting his daughter regularly or what not.

Maggie (Drake's "daughter") is mentioned in Ep 18 too, when he volunteer to learn how to make the origami... He said he wants to "make Maggie happy". So if this Maggie and the other one are the same I don't think he'd be saying that here...
At this time, I am fairly certain that there is some sort of connection between Drake and Maggie. In both episode 17 and 18 there was a mention of the name Maggie and a strange reaction from both Maggie and Drake.. plus I do not see why they would knowingly give her the name of Maggie if they had already used the name and didn't intend something to this effect.
And, Go-lytely, I think you may be right about your assumption of Donny.. hmm, but we must wait and see.

If I'm not mistaken, the website http://www.sonymusic.co.jp/Animation/ROD/ says that the 10th airing (episodes 19 and 20) was Wednesday night. Last time, the raws came out on January 2. Two weeks from that date would be tomorrow, the 16th. I'm anxious as hell to see them too. :)

kj1980: Thanks for the correction.
Don't worry. I'm pretty sure that due to the immense popularity, they decided to do a re-run of Ep. 1-18 on SkyPerfectTV from 1/16-1/31.
It is written that they will resume new episodes from 2/1 on SkyPerfectTV.
