Ive been thinking today about Kisame and his sword called Samehada. I see that it's basically made of shark "scales" and will cut you up like sharks skin will if you rub against it the wrong way. What doesn't make sense to me is its capability to absorb chakra.

When Naruto draws out his Kyuubi chakra to battle Kisame and Itachi, Kisame swings Samehada through the aura of chakra surrounding Naruto's body and the sword absorbs the chakra. Now heres my question for anyone who wants to discuss it....

How does that proprety of the sword actually work? We see it absorb Naruto's chakra, but how often does a ninja actually concentrate his chakra outside of his own body. We've only seen this very very rarely, (when Naruto summons Kyuubi chakra in big fights, when Sasuke gets the level 1 seal activated in the forbidden forrest, and possibly while Orochimaru and the 3rd Hokage were battling, and with Chidori) Because of this, I would asume that Samehada rarely gets to feast on obvious Chakra just floating in space. If thats the case then how does it work?

When Kisame cut Asuma with the blade, it didn't absorb all his chakra, as he still had chakra at the end of his little fist blade knuckle things, but with Naruto, once the blade absorbed his chakra, he had none left and couldnt perform any techniques, (and I personally dont think that the orange chakra surrounding Naruto when he gets into that zone is ALL his chakra, but just some of it) The blade definately touched Asuma and drew blood, but didn't absorb his chakra...

So how does the sword actually work? this is the first time I've posted my own topic so i hope its done properly and is relevant ^^

Just to let you know Sasuke was only lvl 1 in the forbidden forest

As for how the sword works? Who knows, doesn't make sense to me either, but he'll probably die quickly anyways

Are we sure the chakra absorption feature was used against Asuma? It may not have been. That would seem rather stupid of Kisame not to if he was getting ready to fight, but maybe he overestimated his abilities. Or maybe he has to use his own chakra to activate that specific ability?

Any thought on how it works if the chakra isn't just floating around the opponent in plain sight?

I do not think the chakra-absorption power was used against Asuma... maybe they will explain the technique when we finally see Kisame (and Itachi) fight for real... I hope they show up in the comic soon cuz I'm sick and tired of the nonsense happening there right now...

kinda off-topic... but also kinda on-topic... but... in the subs that I have seen... I have seen the words "shave" and "shred" used to describe what the Samehada does... which is the proper term? "shave" sounds pretty weak compared to "shred" though...

for example... "I am going to shave you!!" or "I am going to shred you!!" ... I think it's obvious which sounds more menacing.. :D

I would honestly say it is like a vacuum sucking out the chakra from the inner chakra highway. If it passes over enough of the body it will suck out the chakra from all the pathways. If the opponent gets it sucked out, I figure if he manages to escape his body would slowly create more chakra and fill back up again. When Kisame swung his sword at Naruto it passed near his body from his head to the floor, so I figure it managed to suck it all out. It may just be that if the sword was near the upper body, it could suck that part out. And if the opponent avoided the other attacks the chakra from his lower body may be able to circulate to his upper half.

I'm not sure honestly since chakra is totally made up. I mean if you still have chakra left in your foot, does that mean your foot is the only thing that could do jutsu? ;)

If the Samehada really sucks out all chakra of the enemy (like in the case of Naruto), then it's pretty much better than the 64-point Hakke of Hyuuga. Just one swing and it's done.

Ok the thing about chakra is

You use spirit energy and stamina to make chakra, it took all of naruto's chakra that he had made to do the summoning jutsu and I beleive it was activated because kisame wasn't trying to shave, shred, or cut naruto, just suck out the chakra to stop the technigue. Naruto being the not so fast and bright guy we all know and love, didn't think to create more chakra and redo the summoning. He was kinda stumped, plus it is the opening for jiraiya to come in and save him. If naruto did realize to make more chakra then Jiraiyas opening wouldnt have been as good :P. He probably didn't use it on Asuma because it would have spoiled the surprise using it on naruto (for us) and the "naruto" world he probably didn't use it because he didn't need to and it wasn't going to be effective cause Asuma wasn't doing a big jutsu at the time so there was no need. Asuma could have easily made more chakra and then watched out for the swords darining effect later on, and Kakashi and Lee and Kuriena would be looking for it and expecting it too. The only thing Kisame didn't expect was for Kakashi to see that the sword had that jutsu in it. He mentions the some kind of jutsu being in the sword, which means he has probably seen a sword like that before or sensed the jutsu within it.
