View Full Version : [Anime] Episode 8: Philosopher's Stone
Since 7, I've been expecting good stuff, and looks like we're getting it. The episode continues with the dark tone and it really showed some of the main character's vulnerabilities.
What do you all think?
just seen ep8, damn I still feel depressed about what happened to Nina, Im looking forward to ep9 the preview looks good.
Seems like that weird guy who killed Nina wasn't the serial killer but a man named Barry who dresses up like a girl and somehow gets women into his refrigerated truck, weird huh.....anyways Winry somehow shows up gets kidnap by that guy, Ed follows the truck back to his store and almost gets cut up, luckily Al shows up and saves them.

Damn this was a great. It looks like the next ep is chapter 3 of the Manga.
Hmm I just noticed that this series is taking place in pre-World War 1 Germany. Im basing this on the Fuhrer. But I could be wrong though because this is an anime after all. But if it is though I wonder if World War 1 will unfold in the series. Unless someone can correct me on this?

Another great episode after all the touching moment in ep 7.
This ep 8 reminds me of exactly one Hollywood movie: Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The difference is only Barry uses butcher knife here instead of chainsaw. Btw, how come there are so many psycho guys in this anime???

Can't wait for ep 9 does anyone know the homepage for the group whose doing the subbing?
Hmm, I thought that it was Tucker who had killed all those women for his Chimera experiments, guess not then. But that walking Xbox commercial pillar just seems to get more evil for every episode. But I´m waiting for those weird guys we saw in the opening and ep 2, glutony I think one was called so I guess they´re all named after sins.

Anime-Keep and ANBU are the main group ripping/subbing this. Neither have a webpage I know of, I think they coordinate through IRC.
Another good episode. Im hoping to see more on that mystery guy with the tatooed arm soon, there hasnt been much info on how he's going to tie in to the story yet.
The sites for both groups are:
Anime Keep (http://www.anime-keep.org)
Anbu (http://www.anbudom.net)
Good episode but once again the presentation of the story is really better in the manga, especially Scar (the guy who killed Nina), the way he's shown in the anime sucks.

No, Fuhrer just means leader, they called him like that because that sounds military lol ;)

I'm getting AnimeForever's version.
Another really good episode. They are setting up lots of stuff in this episode. I do however wish that the serial killer thing could have been a little more set-up because the butcher being the killer kind of felt like it was out of left field. I really like this series. I do want to read the manga eventually, are there any scanlations and if not what volume are they up to in the american release if there is one. Been so busy reading the Berserk scanlations. Can't wait to buy the Dark Horse version because i really love Berserk. Since i like this show so much and i hear the manga is better(which usually is) i would like to read it too.
Hey thanks for the ANBU website, i haven't been able to find it.
Look here (http://www.toriyamaworld.com/) for the scanlation of FMA ;)

Sweet! thanks guys i am downloading them right now. And for those who haven't read the berserk scanlations i do recommend it. Damn i loved the anime but the manga is so much better. Only i have one problem i can't find the first 3 vol. for some reason the Hawks don't have em on their website.

That's because the first 3 volumes of Berserk have been licensed. (the rest is still unlicensed though)
If you live in the US, the Berserk manga is being released officially now.

it is licenced, you can get it at any larger book store right now, along with Gunslinger Girl.
you think the anime will pass TY in their scanlations?
Oh ok thanks. I knew that the first Berserk manga was out but i didn't know that just the first 3 were licensed. Damn i read a website that explained the translations but didn't provide what was going on. Luckily i know alot about Berserk so even though it didn't show pictures or insight i could follow what was going on by just what they were saying. Only thing was the count and his daughter, wasn't in the anime. Neither was poor Puck. I knew of him because i played the Dreamcast game which rocked.
Anyone else interested in playing the SquareEnix game for this series. I know i am.

I have a feeling they are going to break off from eachother really soon... considering the anime is jumping all over parts of the manga...

The PS2 game looks ok, nothing special so far (at least graphically). Im wondering how its going to play more than anything. It looks like Ed is the only playable character so far.

Nope. Hughes and Mustang discussed that Nina/Alexander weren't sliced off with a knife like the other victims. Rather, it exploded from within, possible with Alchemy. This is later confirmed when they caught the killer.
Scar, man with the cross scar on his face is the one who's going around to wacking alchemist who have sinned against God. Thus far in the anime, he's tone down quite a bit. The manga version of Scar is truely scary.

Is it possible that the guy with the scar on his forehead is Ed and Al's father?!?
Is it possible that the guy with the scar on his forehead is Ed and Al's father?!?
since Ed seen him twice wouldnt he have noticed if he was his father or not. I dont think that guy is Ed and Al's father.

Also Ed and Al's father was an alchemist, while scar face was not but got something casted on his arm by his brother. Well he can be their uncle.

Finally got the AnimeForever release (trying to keep my subs consistent), so comments...
Another good one, but sheesh! These poor kids are going to be severly messed up in the heads. How many grisly events has Ed already gone through at an impressionable age?
As for manga differences...
I was surprised that Scar didn't blow Tucker away like he did in the manga. As much as I liked seeing him killed by his peers in the anime, I still prefer seeing him get a PAINFUL death. Though at least this time Nina didn't have to watch him die. I'll agree with the people saying Scar seems less scary in the anime. But I'm worried about Ed now that Scar knows he's a National Alchemist.
And from the previews, it looks like we might FINALLY get a lighter episode. The chapter from the manga about the miners looks like the base for the next episode. And since it DIDN'T involve homocidal maniacs or evil alchemists, it should stay a funny story.

Uh heh :heh:
That's what we assumed for this episode since they introduced Winrly. At least, waht I thought.
Yeah this episode was pretty dark and I love it to bits. This series is my new favorite. I wonder why Winrly looked upset at the end of the episode. And I have no idea how Al can stay that pure after seeing what he's seen. I feel for both of this kids.
luckily Al shows up and saves them.
Al doesn't save them. He just kept Ed from killing the butcher.

Dark Episodes > Light Hearted Episodes

Dark Episodes > Light Hearted Episodes Yes, but the manga is hardly an endless torrent of pain and misfortune, and the anime shouldn't be all depressing from beginning to end either. We need a break from the dark stuff or it will lose it's impact.

Sorry if this post is in the wrong place but.....,
No torrents show for me at scarywater. Which means I can't download the ANBU - Keep version. If anyone downloaded it (the ANBU - Keep version), where did you get it from?

I think the Scarywater A-keep tracker was hacked; the only torrents that showed for me were the new Need for Speed underground and some victory secreat stuff.

Toriyama World has 6 chapters up now, covering the first volume and part of the second.
I noticed that AnimeForever has released a Version 2 of their torrent. As this is the release that I follow, I was curious as to what was changed. Anyone know? I don't want to download it again if it's a minor change.

Hey I went to TW and still only see Vol 1 ch 1-4. Where did you see the vol 2 chapters at? Is it on a different link?
I think Chapter 05 and 06 are on BT. I'm not sure about 05 anymore, but 06 was released a few days ago.
I figured it was on bit torrent but where did you find the link? I can't find it.
... it's on TW's front page. ^^;; ... where the updates are ...
Hey great thanks. BTW here's my two cents on the Roy Mustang using Ed and Al topic. Most has been stated already but no one mentioned that Roy also sees the potential for Ed and Al to be successful in the quest for human transmutation because remember how interested he was in Ed when he found out that Ed has transmutated Al into that body of armor. Just another speclation that i just wanted to throw out there.
Full Metal Alchemist has been great so far. I can't wait until the next eps.

It airs in Japan on Saturdays at 6:00pm - 6:30pm. It took over Gundam SEED's timeslot after it ended.

I just saw this episode on Cartoon Network. Even despite all the anti-dub talk, this episode still touched me, especially in the end when Al talked about how he wanted a mortal body. This is the first episode of FMA I've seen and boy do I regret not catching it a week ago.. From this thread, it seems like that episode was crucial. Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait a year.

(I've been watching the english dubbed version on adult swim.)
Whe I saw "her" and she was talking about the serial killer, I said to my brother "She's a man and the seriel killer" but my brother didn't beleive me.
I just though she was supiscous sounding because of the voice (semed like it was for a reason), and when a suspicous charecter says "i hope you catch them" it almost always turns out that they are the person.
This episode was still pretty dark, but not quite as dark as the last one. I don't know if "darker is better', though the charecters and high stakes makes the story interesting. If everybody's happy, not much of a story is it? FMA's been my favorite show since episode 1 and I can't wait to see next week's episode (#10).
I havn't missed one yet.
