Everybody has seen the beautifully colourized pages in the latest Naruto Chapters. And since I enjoy doing this as well I thought I might start a thread about it. Now you might be asking what the point is of this thread. For one this is a showoff thread. You can showoff your Naruto coloured pages here and people can comment on them. But you can also request pages you’d like to see in colour. Off course everything is artist choice and no guarantees can be made. You can request Large pages such as covers or specific scenes. There’s off course room as well for sharing knowledge on colouring manga pages.

But no such thread can exist without Rules:
1: Be as specific as possible, Which page do you want, which scene, what colours would you like it to have or is everything artist discretion etc…
2: No asking for when it’s done. This is not like the Gif request thread, colouring a Manga scene takes time and this is done in free time, for free, for you.
3: About the images posting. Don’t post Large images* and no more than one displayed image at the time. If you insist on posting a large image image put up a thumbnail and a link to the full-size image. When posting multiple images post URL's instead of images
4: If a colored page holds something not showed in the anime yet, or spoilers, please put them in tags..

Images are considered Large when either Height or Width(or both) exceed 640 pixels

I've colored in some of the manga covers before. I would show them, but I don't know of any free place to upload too. Mine, however, look like crap compared the ones that comes with Inane's. Who ever goes those, has great skills that I could never hope of coming close too.

Yeah, pic #1 is quite a big spoiler.. how can you just post it like nothing... You can also use the [manga]-Tag for the title, so noone has the chance to accidently ruin his day... :mad:

Anybody interested in a project where each person colours one page of a certain manga chapter so an entire Chapter is in full colour. Each page would be a different colouring style so it should be good fun.

No special skills are required if you're good or bad in your own opinion it's all for fun everyone can join in.

Pretty Nice, except for that there is white showing. Is this done in PS because if so than I can give you some tips on how to keep your line-art visible.

yep, photoshop. i could have done a better job with places around the lines if i used the magic wand tool or zoomed in extremly close, but it seemed like cheating myself. half the fun of actually coloring something is focusing. i'd get carefree if i knew i could make it easier. and then it wouldn't be fun. ^_^

most of that picture was done with paintbrush on a 2nd layer with 50% optimacy to look like water colors.

What I would suggest is renaming the BG layer to sth. as line art. Then set the blending mode of that layer to multiply. If you then color on new layers underneath the line-art layers the black lines stay visble over the colors all the time. This is a very nice trick. And on my monitor the skin tones seem a bit yellow-ish. I don't know if this was your intention but I'd make them a little less bright. But other than that as said before nice job for (what I expect) to be a first time.

Skin tone is yellowish orange, average cartoon/anime skin tone.

As for the multiply trick, very facinating, I will indeed use that, but not for somthing like this. I don't get that advantage in real life, I won't abuse it while trying to have fun. ^_^

You do your coloring in layers? I use RBG channels to do the flats for my coloring. Ive flatted most of the early chapters, have to go back and render them later.

I've tried this one but the quality of the scan isn't that great. And another thing is that my mediocre colouring skills didn't allow me to do with it what I wanted. Maybe I should work on RGB channels as well. If somebody is willing to teach me how that works or show me somewhere where it is explained.

I learned to flat/render from them. its the first tutorial, Digital Coloring in Photoshop. He says he uses a tablet with his eraserX brushes, but you can pretty much ignore it for the most part. I recently went to paintpixel.com (guy who does a lot of naruto covers in color) and he says he uses layers to do it. Im not sure how fast he does his, but it takes me about an hour or two to flat(apply basic colors to everything) a cover and depending on whats happening, another couple hours to render the image (shading, fx, etc).

edit: Here is a flatted image of a Naruto cover I did a couple days ago. Ive been busy working so I dont know when Ill get around to the render. This one in particular was quite easy to do since its just Naruto and some rocks. No details like buildings, etc. Probably took half hour at most.

Heres a cleaned up version. I dont know when or if I'll have time to color it, but at least it looks like a normal cover now instead of the washed out faded look. Added border/title as well.

edit: oh ya, is it supposed to be orochimaru? The snake and ribbon belt tell me yes, but its a bit early for him to be in it isnt it, since its Zabuza/Haku storyline. Is it a grownup version of Sasuke? Itachi?

most definatly sasuke. it is far too early for itachi and orochimaru to be introduced. also note the detail around the eyes. It is most definatly sharangan. the hair is too short to be orochimaru's and itachi's trademark lines underneath his eyes that make him look tired are not there.

Your probably right. I was kind of thinking a young, 'good guy' version of Oro when I saw it. Its easy to fix though since nothing has been done to it (shading, glow effects, etc). I have a lot of prom picture stuff I have to edit/touch up, so I doubt Ill be able to finish it anytime soon.

I have two request!! first, chapter 118 page 2, it's the cover page showing the 1st and 2nd Hokages after being summoned by Orochimaru.
second, chapter127 page 15, for this one I'd really like the eyes to stand out and for the chidori to look as... electric as possible, I'm no artist and I have no idea how this would be accomplished.. But this page looks like it could be reallo cool colored :p

I know the anime shows chidori as somewhere between white and blue, but i've never liked the colors or animation for chidori in the anime.

not sure what zbrush is, but the colors i choose aren't the ones that look the most realistic or most like the anime, i choose the colors the voices tell me to pick. can't defy those voices. ^_^

those are just just AWKWARD and uneappealing. they are bigger than HUGE watermelons. Those manga artists are really out there.......

lol... yea, they are pretty big, but japanese anime/manga is really weird like that. most people here see it as a joke and talk of her as a sex queen even tho her boobs are just akward. it is like that with all anime characters with oversized boobs.

heh, there are women with breasts that size, and they areshaped similarly, thank yall guys for deciding that they are horrible deformed people who should not exist. I think her breasts are meant to be as they are, big and somewhat baggy, like real super large breasts, i notice the artist didnt make them like huge breasts with perkyness of average breasts, leads me to believe her overlarge breasts have to do with her char (just the way she is) rather than fan service or whatever, also was mentioned she was flat chested at one point in the anime, so maybe thiats just the way she developed. anyhow back to the coloration i guess, hmm i may post one of my original works or color a piece maybe .. (stays slightly on topic)

This guy from Inane who does those incredible colorpages...
What does he do so different from yours? His seem to have the shiny touch and fading colors.

Does he use a different program or are his skills way beyond yours? :)

He is so way more skilled...hes like a god for it ^^ I am still learning anyway...this is my second pic colored on photoshop. Mostly I work in inks. If you want to see a really good colord pic chek out the sasuke in color thread in fan art...Niti can really make a pic come alive..I cant but hey I am gonna try

@mashimaro_boy: the first one looks cooler than the second one, but the first one cheated
and made a completely new backround. The second one was able to make a respectable
picture without changing things to fit their wants and needs.

@Freestyler: that is a pretty cool picture, can you give me the chapter number in which
that appeared? it would really help me deside what colors to use. :)

Thats a link to show you how to get the most out of your layers. its a good one I think.

note: if you do decide to use this method make sure you select the masked ares option on the alpha 1 ...not spot color or the other option...they both lead to black screens... from my own trial and error
