PMK...cursed PMK...Most disappointing new anime so far...What's even worse, cant even stop watching...Because the setting of the story is in the end of the Edo era, a timeline that promises violence to its utmost glory...So in hope I watch, what if finally, something happen? Why are they torturing the fans? Why oh why?

eh. I think it's fun. I could do without the crazy ninja stuff though.

what we learned from eps 7.. souji had a sword when he was 9 :(

I think the whole idea of the name "Peace Maker" might lead you to answers to "why hasn't he been given a sword yet"

Swords are inherently weapons used to kill. Weapons of war, not implements of peace. I think the Hijikata is trying to do just like Souji said: prevent him from turning out like he did.

I think Hijikata doesn't want to bear the weight of creating yet another "demon" on his conscience.

In real life, he was a genius among genii (or is it geniuses?). Strongest swordsman in the Shinsengumi (yes, even more than Saitou). At 15, he was already supreme grandmaster of his style.

Which makes PMK so hard to swallow, to see him as a flaming homo

I'm still following this sorry series just because I still have a teeny-itty-bitty sliver of a hope that we might see some resemblance of the Kyoto during the Bakumatsu described by Kenshin as "Kyoto was a hell where people died and blood flowed every single day. "

i think this episode aint gonna be a short 1 .. considering that tetsu still haven got his katana and there's no bloodshed yet ( except for epi 1 ) I will wait !!!!!! there's still hope in this anime ...

I really wish they would pick up the action a bit though. The last part of this episode was pretty cool, a ninja battle with a more realistic feel (besides the jumping 30 ft. of course). Still, I watch because I figure that if there is bloodshed in the early episodes, that they will get to the heavy action later.

we will have to suffer a bit more, i think... next episode is called "love" and this doesen't give me the impression of blood or things like this.
but it doesen't matter the anime is really good... and i am one amongs lots of people that think it will be really good, some day jjejeje :)

I think Hijikata doesn't want to bear the weight of creating yet another "demon" on his conscience.

My opinion is that Hijikata
has something to do with the murdering of Tetsu's father. (have to rewatch one of the first eps to make sure, but doesn't the killer has some of the same looks Hijikata has?) And then I thought of two options : 1>Tetsu's daddy was real evil and Hijikata doesn't want this boy to become too powerful, because Hijikata was one of the men that finally slaughtered the evil bastard ^^..and 2> Tetsu's old man was a good, honourful man and Hijikata doesn't want Tetsu to spill any more blood because of his revenge-grudge. Ofcourse these are all my own speculations, I have no evidence to back all this up, but I'd like to hear how you all see this.

the only thing we know that hijikata don't want to create another demon like okita souji .. tetsu is just so cute to be a demon ..

Or maybe Hijitaka is the one who killed his father and he doesn't want him to get stronger to take revenge... :heh:

Guess not...

Anyway, this anime will get dark eventually... The question is when...

im deffinately waiting for this to become a bittersweet anime where our fav lil boy ends up just slaughtering the hell out of people.. and battling himself.. hopefully some damned depth

hmm ....
where our fav lil boy ends up just slaughtering the hell out of people.. and battling himself..

mmmmmm angsty......

interesting theories cr4ck. I'm not honestly sure how this storyline will develop. I like the portrayal of okita as someone friendly and approachable, at least it works in this storyline. Okita becomes a stronger character, because instead of being just another hijikata (the other route they could have probably gone with him) they made him funny, but at the same time very dark. This story wouldn't be as interesting if the characters were "angry demon, angry demon, angry demon, angry demon, and angsty wannabe demon" as "angry demon, fruity demon, jovial demons 1 and 2, goofy demon, and angsty wannabe demon" -- making stock characters out of the characters they gave personalities would completely kill the appeal of this series, and I don't think I could sit through 13 episodes of "oh look, more random slaughter with no story"

the appeal of kurogane to me is that while there's the potential to be bloody, there's also the potential to drive a huge set of character developments just from historical events. Imagine how tetsu will be when (if?) he gets a katana. How about when he's got to kill someone in battle. How will he deal with the girl who likes him as a man (well, chibi) of peace? How will he resolve his own internal conflicts?

Just like the strengths of kenshin (particularly the first OVA) were the animation style and the huge character value that the historical stuff drove, I'd say the same are the strengths of kurogane.

That, and the coolest pig ever to grace any anime.

But at least in Kenshim the characters were, if not all likeable, behaved plausibly as human beings, tri-dimensional and with motivations; instead of always being high on sugar :twitch:

I don't think the historical "feel" in PMK is that strong or well done, and I'm not an expert.

And the coolest pig ever to grace any anime is Porco Rosso's Marco

(even if he has only a pig's head)Agreed..So far the story is historically inaccurate, if not exaggreated...As for fans who do not want to see ninja's, there aren't any to begin with..Those "ninjas" are spies to the resepectable sides whose jobs are gathering information and do elimination job to maintain one's identity anonymous if discovered...

Just when I thought that this show couldn't get any more annoying, they bring in that damn annoying ass little girl. At least Saya is kawaii as ever. Really wish this anime would go somewhere. My patience is really starting to wear thin. Hmm well i guess i will give it a few more eps. Better pick up dammit.

Yeah true, but it was to be expected,
after the little talk with the Saya-chick a few eps ago. I like the change of plot though, I'm curious what will happen next...will our energetic hero turn out to be a non-killing, no katana-using martial arts specialist, or will something happen in the next few eps that will force Tetsu to take up his katana? One can only guess...and wait feverishly for the next ep :p

NOTE: I like the fact that they are somewhat "beating around the bush" in PMK. It builds up some tension and also when you watch closely, every ep deepens out a little of the overlying situation in the story. I'm not even thinking of quitting PMK, at least not before that annoying bitchy brother of Tetsu admits he's gay:heh:

I would like to take a crack at the question in your spoiler...The civil war begins and one night everyone gets slaughtered by the opposition except Tetsu...Just when Tetsu is about to get killed enter a mysterious man.. With his katana and lightening fast moves the mysterious man kills everyone and saves Tetsu...He then proceeds to make Tetsu his apprentice, gives him a sword (no, not an wooden sword, an actual Katana) and gives him a new name known as Kenshin...The story ends at this point and while the frustrated fans plan to throw rocks, paper, scizzor and what not, animators of PMK tell the PMK-fan that they can find their answer in the Kenshin OVA 1-4...After viewing the OVA, Fans again venture out to take on the animators...In fear, the animators reveal a wonderful secret...They say to the fans that the happy ending lies in the TV series of Kenshin...To justify if the animators are telling the truth fans cease their hostility to view the 95 episodes of Kenshin series. Fans do not realize the horror that will wait for them, for the PMK animators work on another "Crappy Animation" to redeem themselves in between the time viewers took to watch the Kenshin TV series...

It's a sad sad story..............

Saw Episode 9. What the heck? Some Samurai Indiana Jones guy?

Singing the Star Spangled Banner no less? In 1860's Japan right?

ehhh. well it was written in 1814, but that still seems a bit of a stretch. "Kid, hold my hat." So Indiana Jones-ish.

and he's got a revolver too... Sweet.

I wanna know what his story is. He seemed to react to Tatsunosuke's name and then said "peace maker". Is he their Uncle?

tetsu's dad told tetsu to become a peacemaker ( with the victory pose ) ^^ should be one of the early "westernised" japaneses ~

the cowboy was singing a song that reminded tetsu of his dad

In ep 9 that was the worst sung version of the star-spangled banner I've ever heard. I think that's why those guys wanted to mug him. Interesting episode, even though the guys singing skills are pitiful, I would like to see more of him around. The revolver is cool. Also, I'm betting the package they picked up is empty. Hijikata sent them to get it as a test to see if they could actually accomplish something...and they succeeded barely as Tetsu gets himself in another fight with wandering samurai.

I really hate it when they try to say english words in anime, it sounds so fake. The crap factor in PMK is increasing rapidly. I mean episode 9 was so pointless and silly. What has happened in 1-9 could have been done in like 4-5 episodes and written more interestingly too

monir
2003-12-08, 13:14
4-5 episode is giving it too much. I would say 2 episode was more than enough to fill all those crap. Although they are testing the collective patience of the fan I shan't abandon the PMK boat yet.[COLOR=Black]

I hope the above doesn't show up, but anyways, I don't think it qualifies as a spoiler.

The below should not be a spoiler, since I deducted it after watching only a few episodes.

Tetsu's father was probably killed by Yoshida. In the first episode, the man looks like Yoshida and the memory is surrounded by flames. Yoshida is, according to Hijikata "A bastard that likes to set fires."
