View Full Version : The first 3 lunar subs
as of today, im downloading this series.
But i noticed that the first 3 lunar subs are 50-60 megabytes more than thier counterparts, um is it worth downloading the 230 mb episodes over the 170mb?
is it better quality or something? or did just over killed it and you cant tell a difference.
Im saying this cuz im kinda on a limited bandwidth :heh:

ONIGIRI ALL THE WAY!
i just like the onigiri font more. not to mention they have better distro.
i am not sure if the onigiri HQ eps are bigger than the Lunar Eps though.
i have downloaded both versions an i must say i like onigiri's font and translation more.
no offense to any lunar lunatics.
Well from the info i've gathered around the net, kimi ga will be aroun 11 ep. so to make them fit in 3 cd, lunar made the first three ep over 200mb and the rest of them will be the usual 175 or less mb per ep. Thats what i think :)
p3psi: It means changing from a 3-eps-per-cd-release to a 4-eps-per-cd. (Okay, I don't know for sure, but as an encoder, I'm pretty sure about this)
hobobaggins: Not to offend you in any way, but Lunar is consistently out faster, and their bittorrent distribution can't be beaten in speed either, so I don't quite know what you're talking about...
My japanese is very limited, so I can't really comment on the precision of the translation itself, but Lunar is more coherent from the view of someone speaking English. Onigiri is also very good, but Lunar is giving me the impression that the translator is a native English speaker ... Onigiri tends to have 1-2 minor glitches per episode which make you think "that's not QUITE correct, is it?"
Anyway, both Onigiri and Lunar are doing a kickass job ...

Well sorry to tell u this, but Kiminozo will be 14 eps.....so i dont know where you got all that FALSE info on the net about it being 11 eps....

Hm,
3 + 4 + 4 + 3 = 14 episodes on 4 CDs
So I'm going to guess that Lunar is going to release 3 more episodes at ~230MiB each, perhaps the last three episodes.

Yeah, 3-4-4-3 sounded good at the start...
You *COULD* go 5-5-4... but...
that means 140mb eps... and KGNE doesn't compress as well, as say, OT, which we were able to achieve super quality at 140...
we *COULD* do 140 mb eps, but, we prefer to not release lossy LQ stuff ^^;
I'd do 175 the whole time, but that's 4/4/4/2..? who want's 2 eps hanging around..?
thus 3-4-4-3 was decided =)
That's why you get DVD burner. You can fit the entire series plus more on a single disk. ;)
Ok, this post is useless and I need more DVD blanks....
I *DO* have a DVD burner =P
and even at 250mb an ep, whole series'll fit on 1 DVD=)

Nowaday you should expect people to have dvd-burner:P
if you dont at least get one from the black friday sale (the one on BB was tempting, but dont have another 80 bucks to spare)
I get mine for 120 months ago, and it works great on both format as well
Buying blank cdr is driving me poor... I think I need a dvd writer for Christmas... :heh:
Mwhahahaha. 14 EPs should fit on my DVDs quite well. MWhahaha....
Anyway, I really recommend getting a DVD writer. For those that actually archive their anime, CD's are just a clutter. I can usually fit around 25-30 episodes onto one DVD...Bah, that's around 8-10 CD's.
Well, I guess I'm now 2 cents poorer... :)
On the other hand having 4 episodes per disk is much more safe, if you lose one disk, you lose episodes and not entire series. Not to mention the steep prices on DVD blanks at the moment.
And if you look at the polls on the net, ~10% (+-5% depending on the poll) of users have burning dvd drive atm - around 35(+-10%) have a cd burner.
