Heh, yes yes, it was unavoidable.
I just had to start a thread about it.
Using the handy search feature, I found no existing topics so...

Just letting you guys know that this game has been released,
for the Playsation 2, of course!

Anyone thinking of renting/buying/playing this game?
If you already have played it, please tell us your comments.

I, being in love with the original FF-X, am sure to check this game out.
As well, I am also changing my avatar and signature to celebrate its release.

[I'm a little too happy, aren't I?]

My roommate is playing it now. Awww... no summons or limit breaks. :( The battles are kinda boring without them. We're still hoping that ultimate dresspheres (when we can use it) will make it more fun.

ChibiDusk

Hurray for your roomate~!
Yeah, it is kind of boring without the summons.

ChibiDusk, did you HAVE To use an image from Yunapalooza for your avatar and signature? Why must you punish all of the good people here at AnimeSuki? :D

ChibiDusk
2003-11-25, 17:57
Mwahahaha, where's the fun without a little punishment?

As well, even greater the fun the more punishment you have! :D

Hey! A lot of people like FFX-2!
No one should miss it, as it will be the first direct sequel
to an FF game as well as the only with an all female-cast!
Revolutionary, if I do say so myself!

i wanna get it real bad but i aint got da money so im gonna borrow it off a relative or summin! :D
no summons or limit breaks ehhhhh!! REALLY! omg no fair!!!! but it still looks really kool and stuff, ergghh hopefully ya dont have to do anything with blitzball in this lol coz i sucked at that >_<

ChibiDusk
2003-11-25, 19:49
No, they replaced Blitzball with a lame semi-math related grid game.

I think everyone sucked at that ^^"

Anyways, did you play FFX?
If you haven't, don't play it...it would only ruin it.

If you saw the ending it would make sense why there isn't
any summons.

gravitation
2003-11-25, 19:55
I played ffX but never finished it, i got up to the part before Yunas wedding with Seymour *spelling* when ya fight evrae ^_^ I saw the ending in several music videos, its sad...when he starts disappearing and stuff AWWWWW...why arent there summons tho?

I got the game 2 days ago and I have played it for a total of 8 hours so far. I love FFX-2, I agree that it sorta stinks that there are no summons, but its really awesome when you get to see the girls transform into their different dresspheres.

Personally, I can't wait to get to the end of the game to toggle to a different ending. Where I will be the most happiest person to see a great ending ^_^

50 hours... Thats what I am aiming for to end the game. And if I keep playing 4 hours a days I'll surely get it. Yes, I admit it I am a total FFX and FFX-2 fan. I'm bursting not to spoil anyone :heh:

gravitation

ChibiDusk
2003-11-25, 20:25
Ah, you really should...anyways...*cough*
There are no summons because...
Yuna never receieves the Final Aeon, for when she gets there, she learns that it has been dead for quite some time and that she must choose one of her gaurdians to become the final aeon. Of course, this gaurdian must give up there life and after killing sin, they would become part of him. So Yuna, refuses to choose this path and they end up fighting Yunalesca, the first summoner to defeat sin. After doing this, they must find another way to kill sin.

The aeons speak forth and they tell Yuna to call upon them
in battle with the controller of Sin, Yu Yevon.

While they are called, Yu Yeveon posses them, so Yuna and friends must kill the summon, and so on.

Someone please, I'm really not good at explaining things ^^"

Cz
2003-11-25, 20:31
They should summon something else. Or if not, having some limit breaks would be nice.

saku~ya
2003-11-25, 20:52
This is how I understood it

Yuna defeats the final big boss, once she is done she disperses all of the Aeons. Therefore since she sent them on their way; they can non longer be called for summoning.

I also don't like the idea.

The thing I always liked about FF was the fact that every game was a completely new story in a new world witout any real connections (besides the spells and summons... and chocobos). I can't forgive them for creating a sequel.
And actually I think FF X didn't really feel lika a Final Fantasy already, because there was no World Map and no free Airship Flying. :(

Lol, i was just thinking... does your name The Small One have to do with you "small" penis??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just bought the game a week ago but only got to start playing it these past 2-3 days. i logged in about 4 hrs and i must say it's a bit different but i like it a lot. the fighting pace is much faster and the way they do it is interesting. Considering FFX is my favorite FF so far, I am glad they made a sequel. And yes, it's a bit wacky. The main characters are all girls and they say some really dopey corny lines but they're pretty funny. I do wish i could turn on the japanese dialogue and play it w/ subtitles like anime though.. i think the jokes would be 3 times better that way but nevertheless... if you like RPGs, i highly recommend it. :)

When I saw the action figures of Heretic Bahamut and Heretic Yojimbo at the back of the guide, I thought that I'll be able to summon Bahamut again. But crap, I looked at the enemy list and Bahamut and Yojimbo was there, so I guess "Heretic" means "screw u, u ain't summoning my ass". But the dresses w/ the animals, I could consider it a semi-summon.:D

Its good but definetly not my favorite FF. I don't think they should have made a direct sequel to FFX because they pretty much completely wrapped the storyline up. Now its like yeah lets go sphere hunting... yay.

If I could pick one FF to make a sequel to it would be FFIV that ones got some possibilitys to explore. I would choose FFVI but they wrapped that one up nicely that it doesnt need a sequel. Plus there would be no summons in it if they did make a sequel to it or there shouldnt be. Anyways best FF's in my book go in this ranking currently.

FFVI
FFIV
FFVII
FFX
FFIX
FFVIII
FFV
FFX-2

It seems a lot of the guys in this thread won't buy the game becuz you have to play as (a) girl(s). A lot of the guys, not counting those who don't mind playing female characters, seem kinda sexist when games like this are released.

Kawaii_Sennin
2003-11-27, 02:17
Grr I've been playing the game for a while and I'm really lost and confused:confused:. Does anybody know where I can find a decent guide for FFX-2 online? Cause frankly I dont fell like spending $15 for book that I probably wouldn't read after I beat the game.

JacobM5727

while it is true that the mere exsistance of this game is a mockery to the final fantasy series, i must play it

why?

because it looks better then x, which i played, and can confidently say "almost as bad as 8" - from what i have heard, it has many improvements, things that made ffx so bad have (hopefully) been sort of resolved, and if thats the case, i may as well play it, i like the characters for the most part, and, well, at least its not xi (creepy tiny people)

saku~ya
2003-11-27, 11:03
I find it some how ironic that guys won't play FFX-2 because you have to play as a girl *gasp!* Yet there are all these girls who play other FF games who have to play as the guys. I don't see what the problem is really.... I mean I think they drew Rikku Yuna and Paine that way so guys would play the game.

I got a free poster with mine, and if I were a guy I would hang it up in my room. But I don't care to see halfway up Yuna's butt :heh:

kawaii_sennin:I can direct you to www.ffx-2.com They have lots of goodies as well as a walkthrough ^.^

It is outside the usual style of the series to have the player play as females. Normally the female characters are the weak support characters while the males are the strong characters who battle and keep the group alive with brute force.

But, even though you are being forced to play as only female characters, it may add alot to the final fantasy X story and it still could be alot of fun. Just for hte pure fact that I am basically obsessed with the final fantasy series (been playing since SNES and probably always will) I will still play it, I will still end up buying it, just because it's titled final fantasy, it's kind of sad really..

Cz
2003-11-27, 13:50
I usually play RPGs (those that allow you to choose a gender) as females. I certainly have no problems playing FFX-2 in that aspect. It doesn't matter what gender the main chars are anyway.

ChibiDusk
2003-11-27, 17:08
Pwah!
Finally, I have rented FFX-2!
I don;t mind playing as a female character, and it
really disapoints me when guys say
'Im not playing it because it breaks FF tradition'
when the real reason is they just don't want to play as girls girls.

I personally find Yuna to be very cool, Rikku very funny and I have no opinion of paine as I have not seen much of her.
Before you complain about how bad this game is and all that, play it...

DAK
2003-11-27, 18:12
The game looks REALLY good. The whole playing as female characters thing doesn't really bother me as I'm sure the strength difference that there normally is won't be a problem when the game seems to have an all female cast.

I loved the teaser with Yuna singing.. that song is so addicting.. *starts humming*

I think it will still sell very well even though some people do not want to play if the game has a female cast. It is sitll a final fantasy, it will still build on the story from the first final fantasy X, it will still reveal some things that were not revealed in the first one and will be one heck of a fun game. I look either renting it next weekend (I have to work this weekend *curses*) or buying a copy after I get paid next week.

Do not base whether you rent or play the game on the fact that the cast is all or almost all female, it will still be a great game, I have trust in SquareEnix ^_^

Ah! I just finished playing a part of FFX-2!
Got to Kilika and saved.

Anyways, I have to say, the music is just wonderful, very up-beat! It gets stuck in your head very easily!

The graphics, are wonderful, a tad-bit better the the original FFX.

I aslo like the style of the opening, where it introduces all the characters names, very unique ^^.

Overall, this is far greater then what I had expected!

Rikku: Do we need another password?
Paine: I say we try 'kick-its-ass'...

Yuna: Key-mon?
Rikku: Monkey!!

I finally started playing it today and the intro was WTF? Charlie's Angels indeed. I don't mind playin' as a girl but the dress spheres and garments are still confusing me. There's too many and u don't know which works in which situation. I'll keep playing it coz I want to find out what happened to Tidus but it is a little girly. My brothers and sister started crackin' up when they saw the whole dance intro and asked me "Will u really be playing that?". I hid my head in shame and told them to just pop in Need For Speed:Underground. I'll play the game when they all go to sleep. :D

I agree the opening was a little wierd, but also very funny!
I've watched it twice now ^^"

It gets better later on.
At the moment, I am raising my abilities in Kilika forest.
Paine must learn assualt, only 18 more monsters :heh:

saku~ya

Rikku: Do we need another password?
Paine: I say we try 'kick-its-ass'...

I loved that part :heh: Paine is denfinitely a nice second character. But Rikku is still my favorite among them all.

Well lets see I am in the midst of chapter 2 with 38% done so far. Exciting... I won't be able toplay it today since my sister is home. Cause Ilike to play it for 3 hours at a time, sometimes more. I usually only have Paine being a warrior, Rikku a Black mage and Yuna a Gun person. But I need to level up on those other dresspheres. Or else I'll be screwed like last time when it comes to higher up boss's :heh:

Heh, right now, I'm at the part
where you have to hunt down the LeBlanc
uniforms. Currently on Mt. Gagazet...Hot springs.

Anyways, I chose to give the sphere to New Yevon,
What did you people pick?

saku~ya
2003-11-28, 12:05
I chose to give it to Youth League, cause its the only way that you'll beable to earn 100% And I have 2 of the LeBlanc's uniforms and on my way to get the third one.

ChibiDusk
2003-11-28, 12:54
Yay, I finally got all three and I am

I hope to get it for Christmas
so no fun spoiling the whole thing now!

Ok, I have just completed Chapter 3!
After every chapter, starting now, I will give a few tips and hints

Very Strong Team
I have put together this team, which I find to be
nearly invincable is used correctly.
First, set Yuna as a white mage.
Second, set Rikku and Paine at their default.
Train with them until they learn these abilities.

Yuna:
Cure, Cura, Pray, Esuna, Dispel.

Rikku:
Nothing needed...

Paine:
Flametongue, Ice Brand, Thunder Blade, Liquid Steel,
Demi Sword, Excalibur, Assualt, and all the 'breaks'.

Set Yuna with accesories that raise magic and magic def.
Set Rikku with accesories that raise Magic and a *Magic Ring.
Set Paine with accesories that raise Power and Def.

Now, if you're fighting a normal monster, like a random encounter,

phy. attack with Paine,
use magic or Phy. attack with Rikku,
and use pray with Yuna

If you're fighting a boss, or stronger enemy:

try figuring out the element it's weak against and use one of Paine's elemental slashes [flametongue...etc.]

With Rikku, just simply use a phy. attack and

make Yuna cast 'cure' if the monster hasn't hurt you much or 'cura' if it has dealt a fair amount.

Be sure when using cure to make it affect the whole party by pressing the right directional button.

With that stratagy, I have never had much a problem with any fights.

* Magic rings are those rings which allow you to use magic regardless of your class. [ex. Fire Ring]

My my chibidusk your just bustling through this aren't ya? Let me ask you a question: Have you've been a match maker for the Monkey's in the Zanarkand Dome? And have you've gone all the way through that stuff in Bevelle? The reason I ask is cause it took me awhile to have the monkeys fall in love :heh: And I looked at the next section for Bevelle; and I set it aside cause it looks like a long section.

I want to get this item called "ribbon" Supposedly it protects one character from all ailments. As for who I have in my party
Yuna: Gunner Level 22
Rikku: Black Mage Level 24
Paine: Warrior Level 24

I have yet to die since I have been playing. Which I find amazing since I don't do so well sometimes. I like how I don't have to mess with the sphere gird like I did last time. That thing ticked me off so bad. One thing I hated in FFX. I should start Yuna on her White Mage dressphere so she can learn her Cure, Curaga abilities. I like Rikku as a Black Mage. And Paine is doing wonderfullly with being a Warrior.

Okay, this is really late, I read the first and last page and didn't bother to get what was inbetween, he he. Well, in reply to certain early comments, yes it looks like Charlie's Angels in the beginning. And as for it being a sequel, if I am to pass up one of the Final Fantasy games, it's going to be XI all the way, they disgust me, trying to rip us off even more by making a game ten bucks more than X-2, and fifteen bucks more every month, not including the additional fees for wanting more than one character. It's just another darn mmorpg with the Final Fantasy brand name on it, kind of like Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, you all remember Mystic Quest, right ? Ha ha. Anyway. So far I think it's great, I know I already missed a few things, but that'll give me an excuse to go through it all over again, whether on my own or my other half's game. Not to mention it was cheaper than Final Fantasy X. And the fights are better paced. Back to that good old active mode, don't fall asleep of even a cheap monster will end up selling your hide (had that happen to me in many games when I would play far too late and long), and for those who aren't quick enough, the wait mode is still available as usual. I just think it was too easy with that weird meter telling you exactly who would act when. Interesting to see exactly how good a certain action was, but that's it. Also it's good they got rid of the experience grid, I loved to work on it and do all sorts of things with my characters, but still, why not just let them level up like usual and gain whichever abilities they're supposed to and that's it ? It was a great idea, but took too much time for practically identical results. And I don't think there being no summons isn't anything bad. I mean, it was just getting more of the same anyway, it's good they found something new, they didn't even need to had those special dresspheres, although, they are pretty powerful. And there shouldn't be any either, for the reasons of Final Fantasy X. Kind of like there wasn't any magic in the Final Fantasy VI's past, except they went over that through the game. One complaint I will accept, there being no blitzball is a real bummer, I mean it would've been okay if the new game had been half as exciting. This one is just kind of going back to the old and boring tetra master, even the one from VIII was better than the one in IX. Okay, that's enough of me, I leave now, he he.

Mana

Oh yeah, and Drae, good going with Prince of Persia, it looks awesome and the ratings are so high everywhere. I'm really glad too because that's a game my cousin worked on a lot, as director of the graphics team or something like that, he works at Ubisoft and worked on Splinter Cell too, so we're all proud his new game is such a big hit, I bet he's happy too =/

Just wanna say that i just beat the game after 4 days of playing the game and i must say the ending was pretty good this is probably the first final fantasy game i have to go and replay to get the perfect ending even with a guide i was only able to get 98% complete :frustrated: Well it should only take me 2 days now to beat it all this game play just for a perfect ending.

saku~ya
2003-12-01, 09:33
hey dark_breaka since you've beaten the game, I take it that you took the chance to see the good ending? I was wondering when you press the 'x' button do you hold it until the thing happens, or do y ou press it repetedly. Cause I think I would die if I went through all of ffx-2 to get the sad ending ^^;

In fact if anyone knows let me know ^.~

saku~ya
2003-12-01, 09:51
Hm, there are different endings for this game?
This is new, isn't it?

Actually there are 3 different endings to my knowledge. If you loose against the final boss you get the 'sad' ending. So I am being paranoid and leveling up like crazy before I get there. Then if you toggle before the ending you get the 'good' ending. Which what I am aiming for right now. Then if you get a 100% throughout the whole game, toggle like last time you get the 100% 'perfect' ending ^.^

saku~ya
2003-12-01, 11:28
^^ You get the regular ending but the concept of their being multiple endings, sort of makes you wanna play more than once.

dark_breaka
2003-12-01, 11:41
you have to press x at a certain time i'll look it up on the guide book when i get home
and there are 3 different ending bad, good, and perfect i got the good ening since i got 98% complete. saku~ya which ending did you get and what was your percent completion

100% completion of what? Missions? This is rather new in FF, isn't it?

ChibiDusk
2003-12-01, 17:13
I thought there was:

Loser ending:
You loose to the end boss

Sad Ending
Fail to activate three of the key missions.

Regular ending:
Succesfully activate and complete 3 or more
key missions. Defeat Last boss.

Good Ending:
Get the regular ending requirments,
and press a certain key combination.

Perfect Ending:
Get 100% completeion level,
[view this on your mission select screen]

Well, I haven't beaten the game yet...

I am stuck on beating Yojimbo -_- Its nothing bad, I just don't feel like rescuing 15 people over and over again. I already did it 3 times, so I'm giving it a rest. Perhaps later tonight I will play it before road rules comes on. But really Yojimbo does this attack that lowers my HP and MP to 1 And that stupid dog... dont get me started on that :heh:

Sad Ending
Fail to activate three of the key missions.
-Thats the first time I heard that... I hope it isn't true. Even though I do have the guide book and all. It would be my luck to skip a page.

ChibiDusk
2003-12-02, 19:07
I believe that one of the key missions include:
-Putting together the two spheres halves
The one from Zanarkand ruins.

[but im not really sure]

I was looking on the internet and I saw that there was an extra extra ending after the first extra ending to Final Fantasy 10. The 15 minute movie was a prelude or something like that to FFX-2. Does anybody know anything about this?

saku~ya
2003-12-03, 09:13
Hmm I know that you get the regular ending with all of the 3 endings. So get perfect you get the regular, good and perfect all in one sitting. Of course thats what it sayd in my guide book.

Justa random question for all, where is everyone on their progress. I am just progressing into chapter 4 with 60% done. I almost get to see Yuna concert.

That movie at the end of Final Fantasy X you speak of, is part of Final Fantasy X International, Japan's version of the dubbed game. They have been making "International" versions of most rpgs recently (all of which are English dubbed, Japanese subtitled, and with a few extras not available to the regular game). It's not so international as it's only available in Japan. Examples of special features you can get :

Kingdom Hearts : Sephiroth as a cameo just like Cloud

Final Fantasy X-2 : you can catch monsters and train them (much like pokémon, fight them and level them up until they're at their highes level and you release them to obtain something still unrevealed, I think the game is almost out in Japan), and also two more dresspheres.

Frustrating stuff like that that we can't get, other International games existing include Xenosaga, and more.

Yeah you did.... here in a post one page back....

"Now, if you're fighting a normal monster, like a random encounter,

phy. attack with Paine,
use magic or Phy. attack with Rikku,
and use pray with Yuna"

Phy attack.....Phy.....phy sphere. Where they look like they are wearing Japanese school uniforms (Fuku). With Visors and glowing hands.
I'll try to find the picture of the outfit but it's hard to find

Sadly enough I dont have an PS2 to play the game I only have an Xbox. I think Squaresoft should make the game available to all consoles, I know they would make so much money if they did that and gain more fans. Guess I just have to get the PC game when it comes out, which I think it did come out already or am I wrong.

Someone I know described the experience as one part Charlie's Angels (the opening) and a whole lot of Charmed.

That is EXACTLY what I said. Although the game is good.

But I HATE, absolutely loathe Sphere Break. Who in the heck thought of that game. It blows.

saku~ya

What?!? I thought Sphere Break was awesome game :heh: Maybe it was the fact I was playing it a 2 in the morning that I thought it was grand. But actually it wans't that bad. Its like that math game 24. I won 2 of the three games but than I lost. I guess Shinra will always hold on to the Lady Luck sphere.

Something makes me wonder. How in the heck do I get one of the girls special dresspheres on a Garmet Grid ?.?; Do I have to have all of the dresspheres to utilize it. Because I have Yuna's Rikku's and Paine's special ones. And I know I am missing two out of all the dresshperes. The one I mentioned before and the Al Bhed's special mascot one. I want to see Yuna in that outfit again.

Okay maybe I had too much fun on the mission to hand out balloons. But hey the moogle was really cute on teh way it walked around ^^

I just rented a copy of the game yesterday. It seems to be alot of fun but there are a couple things that bother me up to this point.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the game does not seem to have the classic limit break system that the other games have had. I don't really like that feature as I have always liked the limit break system, very helpful in beating large bosses.

On the same note, regarding beating large bosses.. up to this point (2 hours in, 3 bosses fought so far) this game seems to be very very easy compared to its predecessors. I have fought 3 boss fights so far and I have yet to have a character faint. It seems that the fighting system is dumbed down (not the best way to put it but, I guess it works) to make it easier for those who have not played final fantasy before to get into the game and get involved without getting discouraged by getting brutally beaten.

The garment grid system seems to be quite decent. I thought it was rather strange at first, perhaps 'girly' but I really do like it. I like the job class idea from final fantasy V and I like the ability to change job classes in battle on the fly. I think it adds a strategic depth to the game and should make it very enjoyable later on in the game.

EDIT: A quick question, is there a summoner garment or job class? Considering Yuna is a high summoner I would like to see her retain her ability to summon from the previous game. I'm assuming that yes, you can summon but you will get the summoning sphere later on in the game (once I get past at least the 5 hour mark) but I'm not sure.

saku~ya > The way to use the special dressspheres for each character is during battle you have to change into every outfit on the garment grid that they have equiped, you don't have to use them you just have to change into them. Once you've done that then you open the dresssphere menu again by pressing L1 and then press R1 and the dresssphere icons should all change to the same thing, selcet one of them and you should change into the special outfit.

:heh: Just wait till you get to The Calm lands after you rexcue some people. I had to try to beat that 4 times until I actually won. I went through the same thought process. The boss's in the beginning are somewhat easy. Once you get through the middle of chapter 3 they get harder. I just defeated a boss that was over 30000 HP. It was quite a task to handle. Thank goodness I had a white mage. She saved my butt, and incoincedentally that white mage is Yuna. I can't seem to get in my head she can be whatever she wants lol

Yuna does not have the abilty to summon nay aeons in ffx-2. In ffx she dispatched the aeons, so Spira no longer has a summoning class. Though you get to see some aeons, though they aren't what you think they are ^^;;

You need to give it to the Youth league
to achieve 100% I believe.

I was bad and gave it New Yevon

saku~ya
2003-12-13, 20:50
I just did something really neat. I just beat Shiva the Magus Sisters and Anima just in one try @___@;; I was thinking 'hey this is cool I'll be up to level 54 before I get to Anima' And then when I go to Anima I was doing awesome, than came his overdrive. I had Yuna left with 1000+hp and Rikku and Paine with only 500hp each. I thought for sure I was going to die. but then I used Kogoro's holy and it knocked off the last 2000hp of Anima. I was freaking shocked. Now I am just one melody away from Vegnagun. I got sick before going any further. Thank goodness the sickness passed -_-;

If anything I'll level up even more in the Farplane roads. I gained 4 levels just from playing there. I also gained huge level points in the Thunder Plains and its secret cave. Anyone master a certain dressphere yet? I only have Paines Dark Warrior and Rikku's Black Mage mastered. Yuna is close with her White Mage at 90% Right now she's learning Level 3 white magic. I really like her full life. I never did get to that sphere in FFX ^^;

:heh: I wrote more than I thought I was. I'll just leave with the answer to who I gave the awesome sphere to. I gave it to the Youth League I never liked New Yevon. Maybe it was the fact that Seymour made me sick to even look at him. The jerk I can't believe I had to kill him 4 times ~_~....

The ending was great and so was the good ending part. It made me feel like things were all wrapped up. Problem is I'm dying cause I have nothing to play for 3 hours at a time anymore :heh: I'm thinking about getting final fantasy 9. I stink at roman numerals -_-

In Final Fantasy X I could tolerate the dub, but this time they`ve gone too far.
They put so much work into FFX-2 and then they just rip it apart for the Us and european edition. Why change the dialouge and vocals?

I still can`t understand how they could throw away the beautiful voices of Mayuko Aoki, Marika Matsumoto and Megumi Toyoguchi.

They should have included a Japanese language option in the game.
I will never play this game. Not the european version, anyway.

I love FFX-2

Yes it may not have Aeons you can summon or Overdrives but it sure as hell is fun

its good to experience something different

one thing i hate is the sphere break game... Its a stupid game based on adding numbers

Its really stupid and really easy to kinda master

i would rather have Blitzball back in play AH!

anyways

FFX-2 is a great game i have around 60% of it done on Chapter 4 oh well

Just to let everyone know the game is pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to get 100% at the end without the help of a strategy guide or any other help.... I tried doing it without a strategy guide and i was nearly done with chapter 3 with only 32% of it done

ChibiDusk

Yes it is nearly impossible without a strategy guide.
The Strategy guide for FFX-2 is one of the best I have seen.

I used it and I have 31% done on the beggining of chapter 2 [2 areas into it] :)

ChibiDusk regarding your tutorial, you should probably go into more detail on the page you have it on or something regarding coin count echos.

Considering the only way to defeat shinra and the dog woman in the tournament is to utilize echos you probably should mention that and give some tips regarding getting echos.

As for completion, I'm on chapter 3 and I'm something like 38%.. but I'm working on that.. darn that tower calibration.. *shakes fist at PS2*

Ok, I am in chapter 2
and at the calm lands part [I followed the guide]
and it says if you have Clasko on your ship an event should trigger. Well, nothing happened when I used the airship to get there and I know I had Clasko on my ship because I saw him at Yuna's private little concert thing at the beggining of chapter 2. Well, I went back to where he usually is in the Cabi and he is not there!

What happened?

But i will have to play again to get 100%.............

I find the game pretty good. Not as good as I though tit would be, but still good.

But theres one thing bothering me. I'm at the end of chapter five and I'm doing the bevelle 100 floor dungeon thing. Well, I'm fighting the 40th floor boss and since it uses alot of super powerful magic I cast reflect on my party. Sometime during the battle it casts ultima, which completely bipasses my reflect and does 9999 dmg to all my characters.

Is this suppose to happen? can you not reflect ultima or is it just a glitch?

No, it's definetly reflect. I'v tried casting it normally with a white mage and using the item that casts it, nothing works.

No, it's definetly reflect. I'v tried casting it normally with a white mage and using the item that casts it, nothing works.

Well if you're complaining about it doing 9999 damage to you, just cast shell and cut the damage in half! Reflect only reflects spells that damage one person at a time.

ChibiDusk

argh!
I just typed up a big startegy that soconfused
could use and I explained why reflect didnt work...
then animesuki goes and gives me a 'page cannot be displayed' :S

anyways, I'll type it again:

If you played previous FF games you should know reflect does not work against
high level magic, and Ultima is a high level magic, thus it will NOT reflect.

In order to survive this battle, at the beggining cast shell first, THEN reflect.
This was all low-mid level magic will be reflected back and all high
level magic will be cut down damage wise.

ChibiDusk
2004-01-02, 01:35
By high level I don't mean the characters level who is using it, but rather I classufy magic in four groups:

low: fire, thunder, blizzard...water
mid: watera, fira, thundera, blizzara, bio, most other spells
mid-high: Firaga, wateraga, blizzaga, thundaga
high: flare meteor, ultima, break [most '*construct magic']

*The magic learnt from the construct materia in FF7

boneyjellyfish
2004-01-02, 01:41
I'm pretty sure that break and flare are usually reflectable...

Ultima is one of the only un-reflectable magic spells in the final fantasy universe simply because it is TOO POWERFUL to be reflected. It has always been the most powerful magic spell in more recent FFs (FFVI and up).

ChibiDusk
2004-01-02, 18:21
Hm, meteor is cast out into the open [FF7]
anyways, I think youre right.

Reflect can only reflect
things tragetted at them...
if something is just thrown out everythwhere...
it wouldn't really work.

Quick question(s). I just got off the phone with one of my friends, and he brought up a nice piece of information, to get the best "true" ending, you must complete 100% of the game (wow, isnt that a given). I hate cheating or the use of stragety guides etc etc. He is something like me, but told me, or shall I say, RECOMMENDED me to get the guide as its NEEDED for 100% completion. I don't want to get the guide nor resort to its use, so my question. During the course of the game (since I haven't started on it yet, i wouldn't know) is it possible to go back and do whatever you missed previously to help get to the +% higher, or is it a one time shot? You either do this mission or u dont, but u cant go back, etc etc. And does anyone else who shares my feelings towards guides, who has played most of the game, is it truly recommended? Thanks!

ChibiDusk
2004-01-04, 00:02
You either do the mission or miss out on it.
The game is seperate into 5 chapters.
Each chapter has the same areas, only the missions in each area change with the various chapters.

You move to various chapters by completeing hotsopt missions which are marked on map. But to get the 100% you mst complete all missions. This means hidden ones as well.

Say your on chapter one, and there are 2 hotspots on the map. You first go to Luca [not a hotspot].
You enter a mission but don't feel like completing it..
you think 'ah, ill do this later'.

Then you go an finish all the hotspots. You then go to chapter 2 automatically. You go back to Luca to discover *gasp* the mission is gone and there is yet another waiting for you. This means you lost ur chance for the previous mission's % and can't get it back.

Be sure to save the hotspots in each chapter til the last
so you don;t accidently skip to the next chapter without doing a certain hidden mission. Be sure to visit every area in every chapter.

Anyways, might make little sense, but what the hell lol.
It typed it fast...

Dark Zero
2004-01-04, 00:10
That makes sense, i understood the concept of the mission thing, just didn't know if it was possible to go back to complete missed events. So just leave all the hotspots til the end, when I feel i did all I can, to move on to the next chapter and I should be fine eh? Guess I wouldn't sucker myslef into the guide, which I wasn't anyway. I'll just make a list and see how to advance....

It is possible to get 100% without the guide, but highly unlikly. Since you need to answer questions correctly
[and the correct answers are very unlikely I found :S]
and trigger certain events [like gagazet yrp bath scene:p]
by moving in certain locations instead of the obvious ones.

again, doubt that made much sense :p

I got the bath scene by being curious. All you have to do is keep climbing instead of following the person... I REALLY wanted to see what was up there.

I got to about 70% on my first play through. It took me ~19 hours of playtime. I'm up to 78% now and 40 hours. It's taking me... soooooo long. Good thing I don't have to do all of the little minigames to get to 100%.

I would hate to do the mini-games to add to the %, that would simply be annyoing. But I agree that the guide is worth it for the artwork......purtty pictures ;):D Just defeats the purpose of the game being challenging, whats the use of making something "hidden" or hard to get, if its only achieveable by use of a guide? Well, if you didnt finish Ch. 4 yet. You can keep on watching the Commspheres set up by Shinra. If you keep on watching all of it (and make sure its all around Spira) then your percentage will also increase. The only bad thing is... it takes a long long time to watch everyone.

I JUST got this game about 2 weeks ago and I must say that I am really enjoying what I am playing so far. I am still in Chapter 2. The only thing that I am pissed off about is that you need the strategy guide for the 100%. I am not really too keen on using it, but it is almost required in order to do so. I found out a little too late that you are supposed to do each mission on each Chapter. I made the mistake of just doing the hotspots for Chapter 1, only to find out what I said earlier. I am saying to myself, should I just start over or continue on with the game because I want to get the perfect for my first time out because I know other people did. This little thing is admittingly hampering my playing experience with it, which I should not let it, but dang. But I hate cheating or using the guide. I find more satisfaction knowing I got the 100% on my own. I have always taken that approach with my games.

Enough bitching, I love the game and I plan on getting the International release so I'll start my 100% there. ^_^

nah, I usually love mastering a game, I play it to its fullest. But what I ment by time-wasting events is those that take TOO much time and have little to no reward or any meaning to it. Lets say, for example, the event takes about 1-2hrs to complete, it has no point, its totally boring, and probably rewards you with little money or a weapon you already had 10 hrs ago!

It's not really much to complain about, you know. You could always do what I do, rip through the game once, then go get the guide and see what you missed. That way, you can still feel like you beat the game, and then still get the pointless junk. I rarely equip any items I get anyway, they're mostly stupid or just reserved for particular battles.

Playing with a guide sucks if you don't know what you're doing already. I used to bash my friend all the time for seeing him play the FFs with his guide sitting open right next to him. What's the point then? Just go see a movie, you'll get the same effect.

But i guess that won't help if you really need to feel like the absolute God of the game. I would get way too bored, my eyes would get way too itchy, my back would be way too sore and my brain would get way too numb if I were to frolic along to each location every time I see a new cutscene.

I'm sure it helps, I'm only in my mid 40 levels for everyone with about 52%, going into the Farplane, and I got my asz kicked by the first fiend. And everywhere I go, I get my asz kicked by Behemoth or I get my asz kicked by a big robot. And I'm even one of those people who does the old circle walks everywhere to gain experience.

I'm rambling...by the way, I'm new here, hi.

Please understand, I DO like this game, so this is not coming from a critic...

I think FF x-2 is a cash game. They didn't really have to design much. All the levels are exactly how they were in 10, they only had to create the storyline and cinema. I think maybe they put this one out because they knew alot of people would be PIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIssSSSssED off about what they did with Final Fantasy 11, so x-2 made us all forget about it for a minute.

it is because you did the Calli and hunt that chocobo mission. Just go back to Rin's travel agency there and just outside it you should see Calli and Clasko talking.

Shinra was eaaasy. The pirate in the luca stadium is difficult.

Shinra can use just about every number, but you should probably reset if you get too many 1s. In order to win, you need to get 3-coin echoes.

I lost SO many times to shinra the first time.. darn those 1s.. A chart sounds like it would be a really good idea, basically just list the possible combinations for 3 coin echoes I guess.... Anyone beat Angra Mainyu?

Woo-hooo I just beat him. Had my characters around level 60 and I basically just used Rikkus Machina Maw dressphere with maxed abilitys to beat him. Took awhile though.

boneyjellyfish
2004-01-15, 03:35
I managed to beat Angra Mainyu around level 55 or so. Here's what I had:

Yuna - Gun Mage with White Wind, Mighty Guard, and Absorb learned, using White Signet Garment Grid for White magic
Paine - Alchemist with Mega Potion learned
Rikku - Dark Knight

Beginning of battle -

Paine uses Light Curtain
Yuna casts Mighty Guard
Rikku uses Stamina Tablet or whatever item doubles party's max HP.
Yuna casts Reflect on party. On next turn, cast Reflect on party again.

Paine uses Stashed Mega Potion every round from now on.
Rikku uses Darkness every round from now on.
Yuna uses Absorb every turn. When the left monster uses that status attack, use White Wind.

When Rikku's darkness attack fell below 1000 damage, I killed her and revived her to get rid of her negative status effects. After getting it down to about 20000HP or so, it started using Flare like crazy. Just keep reviving characters that die and keep your Mighty Guard up.

For this battle, a Dark Knight is essential. Not only is Darkness an attack that is neither physical nor magical, but it also attacks EVERY target. This means that you can easily take care of those pesky fiends attached to the main body.

My Equipment:

Yuna - Rune Bracer, Rune Bracer, White Signet GG
Rikku - Crystal Bangle, Champion Belt, Undying Storm GG
Paine - Speed Bracelet (the one that has auto-haste), Mythril Bangle, Way of the Samura GG (I forget what the name is)

Using this setup, I was able to defeat Angra Mainyu extremely easily. It took me a little over an hour, though. Basically, it's a healer, a status-healer/attacker/mighty-guarder, and a heavy damage unit. A dark knight makes the battle easy. Just make sure to kill it and revive it if its damage falls below 1000.

Also, having Absorb on your Gun Mage is an absolute necessity. Since it's the only one of the three that will use any magic at all, you'll need to replenish its MP after the right part uses its MP Drain/Power reducing attack. If you don't want to make Absorb your main attack, you can use any other blue bullet attack you want. You can also replace the Rune Bracers with whatever you'd like. Bushido Lore is good if you want to get Haste on and raise her strength, Arcane Lore is good for Black Sky. I would also recommend putting a Ribbon on your Gun Mage, just so you don't get confused and silenced (I didn't have on, though. I took the status ailments like a jellyfish)

Now then, I need to mentally prepare for my upcoming battle against the Sphere Break Pirate. In all of my matches against him so far, the highest quota I've gotten up to is around 400 or so. Getting the last 100 is really... REALLY hard. *hugs his Omega Weapon coins* My... preciousssss...

Tommy
2004-01-15, 04:36
Yeah it took me about an hour as well but the battle wasn't extremely easy for me. I don't have White wind, mighty guard, absorb, the alchemist dressphere or any mega potions so I couldn't use your strategy :p .

Why don't you use any of the special dresspheres? How much damage was darkness doing? Using Rikkus Machina Maw and casting Vajra I would deal attacks ranging from 7000 to 33,000 thats with offense +10. I would have the arms either healing or casting protect, shell, or offense and Occasionally he would kill me so I would have to revive and get my Hp up to start the cycle again.

I never did fight Angra Mainyu.... I was so quick to the end and I didn't feel like fighting/retreiving those cuactar's all over Spira. Though those mini games invovling them were fun.

I also noticed that at the end of the game, that to get the full effect of the garment grid, you had to have the grid be glowing ^^;; So in my mind I thought all I had to do was equip them with it. It makes me wonder how I beat the game at all. It must have been the fact that I had Rikku's and Paine's dark knight dressphere mastered along with Yuna's White mage and Rikku's Black Mage..... That or maybe the items I equipped them with to have their HP double and sometimes triple.

When I played Sphere Break in Luca I wonthe first 2 games. I lost the 3rd game but I really didn't care. I had been playing it until 2 in the morning.

Did everyone use each of their dressphere in the whole game? Just wondering cause I didn't.

Darkness did about 5000 damage to all fiends in the beginning, then it slowly trickled down to about 1000 after getting attacked by the attack down spell so many times.

Did everyone use each of their dressphere in the whole game? Just wondering cause I didn't.

I used their dresspheres for a little while until I got some of the better ones. Right now I'm working on mastering all of 'em but I have to start over if I want to get the Mascot dressphere. I'm nowhere near mastering the special dresspheres (because I never use 'em) and I'm currently at 99% for my Gun Mages. Alchemist was a chore to maste. Right now, my setup is:

Yuna - Lady Luck (~70% done)
Rikku - Trainer (Only Half MP Cost to go)
Paine - Trainer (Just started last night)

I think that when I finish mastering all of them, I'm going to just make everybody Lady Lucks. I just started my third playthrough out of hopes that I can get the mascot dressphere too. Current completion % - 99.

Oh, is the pirate later on nessacary to beat for completion %?

No, I just really want to beat him. He's the only Sphere Break guy in chapter 5 that I can't beat. If you can't beat Shinra, then you probably can't take him on. 500 quota, you know? I'm only getting to around 400, though one time I got to 437 quota.

Ouch... but still couldn't you get the mascot dressphere? Were you not able to get an episode complete because of that?

I just beat the last boss and he was pathetic. Seriously the easiest last FF boss ever. I think I got the normal ending not really sure.

Unfortunately, I ended up with Episode Concluded in one of the areas instead of Episode Complete. In order to get the Mascot Dressphere, you have to get Episode Complete everywhere.

On my first playthrough, I didn't really do much extra stuff and I found the last boss to be rather difficult. Keep in mind that I was around level 45 or so when I fought it (65% completion). Also, it is nowhere NEAR the easiest last boss. Final Fantasy X's last boss is the easiest last boss.

You might be right, maybe because I just beat Angra Mainyu before beating the last boss it seemed this way :heh: . But with everyone on level 65 I smoked him I didn't even need to pull out my big guns on him (machina maw + Vajra= 15,000 damage a turn.) but I did :D . Actually I only used it on two parts of Vegnagun and even that wasnt neccesary. The group I used was just,

Paine as a Darknight just attacking
Rikku as a berserker just attacking
and yuna as a white mage healing and casting protect, shell

thats all it took I beat the last boss like a regular enemy pretty much.

You should really get those Special Dresspheres mastered if you havent yet Boneyjellyfish, they deal some boku damage. I still can't believe I missed Paines special dressphere though, I can only imagine the attacks I will be able to deal once I get it and master it :heh: .

I got 63% completed.

"boku damage"? What the heck does THAT mean?

My special dresspheres are all around 40-50% completion. I really have no desire to master any of them. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, you know?

Its just a made up word :heh: . Lots of damage anyways but you are right it does corrupt. However I'm sure it will be needed on that 100 level dungeon. But then again since you beat Angra Mainyu without them maybe not.

Dark Zero
2004-01-26, 20:38
HA, u kidding? won him on my second try. Remember what I said, I hadn't started the game until recently, way after you. So I been at it no more then a week or so. I'm on chapter 5, almost done, 90% ^_^, my FIRST play thru, no Walk-thru or guides. I'm shooting for 100%, which I can tell I'm on my way there easily, oh I have an outline of what needs to be done for 100%, but thats all ;)

As for shinra. Use 2 coin combos, hope he doesnt use a ONE as his core. If you chain it thru, you should bag him around round 9+. Remember, use TWO COINS, one border coin ONLY! If all works out, you should beat him, try a 3 coin echo if you want, but theres no use. Hope that helps.

It's annoying having to beat one dude to get to shinra RIGHT after, that annoyed me to no end. Like beating Shinra wasn't hard enough that we had to endure beating someone else before hand -_-.

Note if he DOES use the number ONE as his core, dont bother.....you want have enough rounds to win, unless he uses it at the beginning, ie rounds 1-2. I know 2 coin echoes are small, but they add up, play smart.

Yeah it does not count, but just wondering. I think one of the ops in the IRC channel calibrated all of them. I know I'm not getting 100% completion anyway, so it doesn't matter too much already. I'm still in Chapter 2 and Paine has mastered Warrior, Yuna Gunmage (except Blue Bullets) and Rikku is on the last Thief ability. Hmm, Paine is close to mastering White Mage and Rikku is almost done with Black Mage too. I am going to take a long time to finish this game...

You don't need to calibrate them all for the 100%. Calibrate 5, and attempt the other 5 (10th one is hidden) and talk to the guy, he gives you a garment grid, that is all. I should know, I beat the game with 100% ^_^

Hi , new here and not sure what everyone's talking about. Too many posts to read... :heh: I'm not sure about getting this game, as everyone hyped about it being like charlies angels. And you only get to play three characters! Is it really all that great? Oh and whats will the 100% thing? Like getting all the secrets or somthing?

ChibiDusk
2004-03-05, 00:10
The game is NOT like charlies angels...well, in the beggining a little.
It focuses on the relationships of Yuna/Tidus and Lenne/Shuyin
and we learn a lot more about what happened in the first game.

% depends on how many missions/events you have triggered and completed.
In order to get 100% you must trigger a majority of the events and you must complete all missions.

But say you only get 45% done the firt play through, once you beat the game, start another with "New game+"
and you'll start of with 45%, that means you can get 100% easier.
Also, it allows you to get a max of 145% completetion.

According to http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/final_fantasy_x_2_new_game_plus.txt which you linked to just three posts ago, you are wrong.
Since it's very difficult to know enough to get 100% on the first time through, and may be impossible by way of certain choices, this allows even the average Joe to get a shot at the Perfect Ending. Any "extra" percentage points that you earn over the course of your continuing play will be added to whatever you had before - but it won't let you double-up and get credit twice for the same event. The Perfect Ending will trigger if you have 100% completion when you trigger the "good" ending.

It says that you have to trigger every single event that contributes to completion percentage and it doesn't let you get double-credit for triggering an even twice. The advantage is that you can miss events in one play, as long as you get those events in another play. Maximum completion is still 100%

i got 100% and ive started a thread on animenfo forum, but on one there seems to have got 100% :(

but trust me everyone the 100% extra footage WAS F**KING BRILLIANT - easily the best ending of any FF, and it puts a whole new spin on the normal ending and after watching the extra 100% endings (there's a FMV AND a cutscene), i just felt that the normal ending was quite weak compared to it.

btw the extra footage (FMV+Cutscene) was about 3min

so anyone here seen the extra ending?

If you saved on the airship you're screwed unless you fight REALLY hard.
Just use Tidus' Hastega, Rikku use Al Bhed Potions, and Yuna Cast Shell+Protect [plus Holy if you have it] Occasionally move the airship back to fire missles.
Have Tidus attack when close and Have LulU swicth with Tidus if far away to cast big spells.

Or say you get 50% on your first play through and play again and get 50% from the exact same events? Is that how it works?
