Why can't Kakashi close the Sharingan?

Now I just read chapter 69 of the manga, and Orochimaru phrased it differently than they did in the anime. He said, "That sharingan is your left eye" I know that Kakashi is or was a member of the Uchiha clan because the Sharingan is a trademark move. But why can't he close it like Sasuke can? I figure that the Sharingan is the reason that he keeps that eye covered as to not creep some people out. And the more of the manga that I read, the more I think the the anime's budget is being saved from making revisions to the script. They use everything that the manga says. Every line and phrase came from the manga. They changed minor things, and threw some things in for the filler episodes. Not complaining, but I never thought that it was THIS similar to the manga. The manga moves so fast. But I still love the action scenes best in the anime. They flow better because you can see the whole moves. But the anime has the signature freeze moments from the manga if you know what I mean.

Uchiha is a blood line, somthing ur born into not somthing u can join then quit. Kakashi does not have the Uchiha blood line in him and he got his sharingan by unnatural ways that we do not know what yet. He was not born with it and probably does not have the ability to turn it off and on because of that.

Yes, kakashi was not born into the Uchiha clan. The way I take it and what I assume from watching the anime is that the eye was somehow surgically implanted.

As you can see when he lifts his forehead guard up to reveal the sharingan is that there is a large scar down his left eye. One can only assume that that scar is from him getting the sharingan. That somehow from a past battle, the dead of someone in his group or something else, he aquired the sharingan eye. Therefore, he doesn't have the control over that ability that a Uchiha would have and he cannot close the sharingan and thus covers it with his forehead protector (also it just looks freikin cool)

As people said before, Kakashi is not an Uchiha, different from Sasuke and Itachi. He got his Sharingan through surgery, and a Sharingan don't work well on a non-Uchiha body, that's why he can't turn it off (and since it consumes a lot of Chakra, he covers it with his headband).

kakashi cant turn it off, thats why he must put a headband over it. He could just keep his eye closed, but that takes too much effort.

But this also means, that the dead guy he got it from activated the sharigan. Really the only time you activate it is when you're in a fight. thats why i think he must have gotten his eye after the uchiha mass murder, and the cut from itachi :D

And it's not that he can't close his other eye, it just seems to be that he can't 'disable' the sharingan, that he's always using it.

but i think that was not from "putting the eye in" as someone suggested, but rather, kakashi got blinded in one eye, and someone stuck in the eye =of a dead person (friend) that was lying around.

i dont think that any surgeon would make such a huge incision to put in the eye...

and kakashi really has no other reason to put in that eye (unless he REALLY wanted the eye...) other than to remember his friend by (or enemy)

I couldnt help but correct ur misunderstandings... Kakashi got his Sharingan from one of his 3 man teammates... his name was Uchiha Obito. At one point Obito activated the Sharingan, but in an attempt to save Kakashi's life, his own was taken. But before he died, Uchiha Obito offered to give Kakashi one of his Sharingan eyes as a gift for becoming a Jounin. The other member, a female, was a medical ninja, who performed the surgery on the spot of Obito's death, and hence, Kakashi's Sharingan was born. Yes, since he is not of the Uchiha clan, he uses up more chakra than a normal Uchiha member does. Although he has the Sharingan, he can still fall victim of the Mangekyou Sharingan, which is a technique that Itachi uses to control time and space inside the mind who falls into his trap. It is said that anyone with the Sharingan can defeat this but since Kakashi is not Uchiha, he can fall victim. Nice history lesson for you guys. If I am incorrect with some of my information, feel free to correct me

Maybe switching the eye on/off stresses it too much, causing the blindness - that could be why Kakashi hides it all the time, to stave off going blind in that eye...

yeah... we all know that Obito gave to Kakashi his sharingan like that... but why could Kakashi develop the sharingan but can't close it?
aaand, Rin should know that the eye wouldn't come back to normal, as she is a medic nin, why wouldn't she say to obito changed it before give the eye to kakashi?
yeah, maybe Kakashi wouldn't be able to change from normal to sharingan again... but if he can develop it he should be able to activate it too...

When Kakashi graduated as a jounin, his teammates had to give him a present, but Uchiha Obito forgot. They also had to do a mission on the same day. On that mission to the grasslands, they got attacked by a group on rock ninjas. The rock ninja's can turn invisible, and slashed Kakashi's left eye (that's how he got the scar). Later, Uchiha Obito gets his whole right side crushed by a huge rock thrown by a rock-ninja. With the last of his strength, Obito tells Kakashi the last gift he will ever give to him is his left Sharingan eye. So then Rin, with her special ability, transplanted Obito's eye to Kakashi.

It takes the blood of an uchiha to awake the sharingan, and maybe the same counts when releasing it.
But since Kakashi got the eye while it was in the awakened state, he got all the bonuses and could work with the eye from there and improve it :P?

It's because it was fused surgically as people have said with his scarred, or broke or crushed eye. So as long as his eye works, sharingan will be on.

He doesn't have the kekkei genkai, that's why, as far as I know. Even though he got it from Obito, if he had the kekkei genkai I bet he would have been able to "turn it off".

That's right..it is also very stupid when you think of it.
To activate a sharingan is easier then to activate MS.
The MS is able to change back to normal sharingan but he cant turn it off.

The sharingan definetly evolved and even after so many years it hasnt adapted to his body and blood.

The Readers of the Gaiden know a few details about his father. But not about the mother.
If we expect Kakshi´s parents to were a non-uchiha and a have-uchiha, Kakashi could have the body of an uchiha, like Fei-San said, but not the Bloodline.

Just look at this:

Mother: AB
Father: BB

Possibilities: AB, BB, AB, BB

These are all the genetic possibilites, for Kakashi to be. A = bloodline; B = no bloodline.

So there is a 50% Chance of becoming a Child with the genes of the bloodline.
But even the "ABs" only have a 50% chance ove getting the bloodline or just have it in your genes, but not being able to activate it.

So overall, with Kakashi´s father to be non-uchiha and his mother to be a half uchiha, there was only a 25% chance for Kakashi to receive the bloodline, but he didnt.

A chance of 100% to have and really activate the bloodline is only possible by pairing two full-uchiha ("AA and AA"). A 100% Chance of having the bloodline, and 50% chance of being able to activate it, is possible with: "AA, BB".

the reason kakashi cant close the sharingan is because the sharingan isnt his he got the sharingan from his best friend obito cause when obito was about to die obito said "i was the only one who didnt give you a present for becoming jounin here take my sharingan thats how much i care" they had the sharingan surgecly implanted or jutsu im not sure i just know that obito gave it too kakashi.

The reason why kakashi can not close the sharingan eye is because when he got the eye from obito when obito got 'killed' he gave one eye up to give kakashi another eye,but the chakara paths around the eye were damaged in the process so the eye is on all the time.

because its a kekkei genki kakashi doesnt have, sure he has the eye and can use it but he doesnt have the bloodline of an uchiha so it stays in the state it is
