That was without a doubt one of the best scenes ever in the Marimite anime!

And you've gotta love Yumi's reaction to her discovery the next day... that really had me laughing. HARD. Oh, poor Yumi... :D

This is my favourite episode of the season by far... and not just for the Sei/Yumi kiss. Really. :)

I loved the Yumi/Youko glomp and subsequent conversation with Youko handing over the responsibility for looking after Sachiko to Yumi. Shimako got some screentime this ep, which is also great. And as for the kiss scene, my favourite part of that scene was actually the conversation and hug afterwards.

Nequam: Great screencap! That was a really funny scene... hehe.

I know the effort of the fansubers. But that' wasn't a request or a "hurry up".
Only a Comment... and my apologies once more.
I don't know who is behind the fansub of Marimite, but i want to congratulate that person for the Marimite Fansubbing.
Well i think i can learn Japanese :) it's interesting.
And a nice way, is watching the Raw's :)

SidSavage, let the fan express their feelings. It's always funny to read people asking for more. Actually, I'm rather happy that the ep 4 isnt out yet because I am on dialup connection in vacation right now :)

I'm sure the subbers work hard on it don't worry, once they begin the work, they never stop in the middle of the serie. And I think they don't even read our "we want more" or the "thanks a lot for subbing" (IMHO)

Well, sorry for the delay.
I and Panda-san was away for a week.
I've already Translated episode 4 but we have inside problem in Marimite group
right now, so we are little behind.
At the same time, we dont want to do speed/rush release.
We go for quality so please bare with us.

We now have Translated up to episode 5 (I'm half way done iwth eps6)
and even we are hoping to release them sometime this week.
If not, maybe next week.

maybe the translation was a little bit hard to follow? i had some trouble with it, but i was so happy that i understood most of what was being said so i didn't have to look at the sub too much (i always want to keep my eyes on the beatiful scenes!). but still, thanks alot for the hard work! it was well worth the wait!

just watched it! tears were flowing nearly the entire episode. marimite is beautiful.

i just found out that only Sei is going to Lilian's University!!! Yuko and Eriko are no longer in the same school! I thougth all of them were going to Lilian's U. Is that true???? So we won't be able to see Yuko and Eriko any more? :(

You will see Youko once more towards the end of this season. Eriko, hmmm, probably not...

But, they are always in the OP/ED. :D

I love this episode, and yumi's kiss is so great! this ep also reminded me that nostalgic feeling you have when graduate... aaww, im feeling nostalgic again >_<! I wish my school had some sort of little brother system, this girls are just too lucky.

kj1980´s screencapture looks like Yumi is nibbling off Sei. I bet some Sei fans here are a bit jealous now :D.

Actually, Torii Eriko went to a prestigious Liberal Arts College, Satou Sei went to Lillian University to major in English, and Mizuno Youko went to Law School.

I got the same way during the 5th episode (and during the last episode of Azumanga Daioh.. but i digress.. ^^; ).

And I don't think you're missing much with the whole family system thing. The all-girls school that I went to had a sister-system as well (just ONE of the reasons why Marimite reminds me of my highschool career... :heh: ) , but in actuality, most of us ignored it. To be honest, the best way to be close with the lower/upperclassmen was to just get to know them. ^^

first off, would like to thank all the subbers ...(since yous are in the forum...didn't know that..)...ep 4 would have to be one of my favourites for the second season, i'll even download v2! :P

the whole episode was heart warming...but i don't get it, why is graduating so sad?...ok, so they won't be able to see the current 3rd years everyday anymore, but theres still other ways to stay in touch...even the current graduating 3rd years, don't they keep in touch with their 'sisters'?
graduations are always nostalgic, and from experience, people always loose touch with each other, wether they go to different colleges, or they move to other cities etc. besides they met new people wherever they go, so its even harder to mantain contact with them... enjoy your school friends while you can, people! you may have new bestest friends afterwards, but school's time will always be the best.

I wasn't getting a thought she was leaving the school. But then Shimako said, Thank You...like she HAD really thought about leaving?? Did I miss something?

I was recalling when Rei and Yoshino were 'fighting' that Yumi had wanted to help but the other roses were like, it's not our place to get involved, wait until Rei comes for help, or something like that.

And it seemed that Sei (or was it Shimako) had had this attitude once, though, as well.

Now that you mention it, they do not follow this rule! I guess the only rule is that their are no rules within the Roses? :)

I also think I spend too much time thinking over each action... :)

This scene is better portrayed in the novel, so I understand that it leaves people who haven' read the novel to scratch their heads... Actually, the anime episode does follow through exactly what is written, but hmm...I guess the tone of written words is hard to express visually here.

The main point here is Shimako and Yumi's dialogue:

Shimako: "There is the fact that if I can find a soeur that best fits me, but there is also the [pressure] that she has to be the Rosa Gigantea en bouton in her first year"
Yumi: "But Shimako-san, you went through the same thing"
Shimako: "Yes that is true, but I think that I am not allowed to choose a soeur"
Shimako finished her sentence in silent melancholy, and Yumi suddenly has a moment of uneasiness.

Hmm...even in English this doesn't come out well...perhaps it's a "Japanese thing" that the last sentence "Shimako finished her sentence in silent melancholy, and Yumi suddenly has a moment of uneasiness" equates to an underlining meaningof "as if Yumi had a rush of thought that Shimako was thinking about going out of Lillian."

It probably also helps if by reading the novel, you get an understanding that Shimako portrays herself as isolated from the rest of Lillian's students...something that will be revealed towards the end of Episode 7 and the beginning of Episode 8.

This is probably one the best cases where a non-Japanese would have a hard time understanding our culture of "honne versus tatemae." I found that this thing is too hard to explain and that one actually needs to live in Japan for at least five years to "get" it.

But to answer your question, no that is not a snide remark and not meant to be one. Just take it word-for-word.

I assume you are referring to the part from the first season where Rei was walking dazed around campus after her soeur break-up with Yoshino. Sachiko and Yumi takes Rei to the bara-no-yakata so the Roses can help Rei out. And I assume that is where you got that notion from Youko and Sei's remark at that scene.

This is the place where you shouldn't have taken it word-for-word. What is said is quite different from the underlining tone. The underlining word here was more along the lines of "Rei is the next budding Yellow Rose, this is one step she needs to resolve on her own to become the next Rosa Foetida." This underlining tone is "written invisibly" (so-to-speak) before Sei and Youko's remark "besides, her grand[e] soeur (Eriko) isn't here, so we shouldn't butt in unless Rei wants us to."

In addition, the more focus you should've paid attention to was the dialogue between Sachiko and Youko about "friendship is about making yourself a sacrificial role." You will then realize that Sei also mentions to Yumi, "Whether or not you make yourself look silly, you will jump into fire to save Shimako from her troubles."

Of course, like you say , it's the cultural difference, that mainly confuse me. And Maria-sama ga Miteru is probably the most 'Japanese' anime I've ever seen. So I get confused alot. But I think it's also one of the things that draw me to this anime. :)

Anyhow, as for the inheritance of rosaries, I'm guessing you only acquire one when you become a person's souer. For example, Yumi's rosary used to belong to Sachiko, which used to belong to Youko, which used to belong to Youko's oneesama, and so on and so forth.

So what you're gonna do if you want to break a bond with your grand souer or vice versa, but you already have a petite souer? Will you have to get the Rosary back from your petite souer to give it back? Or maybe you go buy you grand souer a new one? Either way it seems strange.
