Machine Robo Rescue :)
Machine Robo Rescue :)
Actually hoping for the classics like Diamos, Daitarn 3, Combattler V, "Gekigangar 3" and etc. At least i would have something to do during the holidays translating japanese into english. All the Christmas joy around here is so depressing.

I think "Super" Robot makes it pretty clear that it has to be at least 4-Stories tall :heh:
I recommend:
GaoGaiGar(1997), a running project by Anime-in-Action
L-Gaim(Circa 1980s), a starting project also by AIA. Note, this series has good depth, and used to be a staple in the Super Robot War Series up until a few years ago.(SRW:F)
I'm not sure if Gekigangar, a mini project-in-project by the Nadesico Production Commitee ever got serialized or anything^^ I could be wrong.
There aren't anymore that come to mind, by that I mean any major projects picked up by fansub group... we can use more on the old and timeless classics in the Super Robot Dept.^^ like Da-Gun and Raijin-Oh. In the mean while I'm waiting for the release of (Ps2 game)SRW-MX... looks absolutely amazing.

Oh yeah GodoMars... I keep forgetting it being subbed ^^ I can actually remember watching a GodoMars TV broadcast when I was 5^^(in Taiwan, of all places)--ah that brings me back :)
Now about my S-R collection... I'd have to say I have none :( My knowledge in S-Rs have been mostly fueled by a basic understanding of Japanese(Able to Read Kanji and Kana) and the SRW series :heh:
there is a group out there somewhere subbing Xabungle, i found 2 eps but i dont know how many they did

Doesn't just about any Gundam series fall under the Super Robot anime? If so there are several available on animesuki.

nope, Gundam is real robot :D
Though I whole-heartedly agree with the above statement :) , it would be true (or make good sense) only through the eyes of hard-core SRW fans :heh:
Slightly :topicoff: to furthur answer the above question^^
To clarify: The SRW game series classify the robots available in its series to two major arche-types
Note: Exceptions to the rules commonly occur within the games to either give the player an advantage or to give the AI an advantage, so the story may move along smoothly.
1) Super-Robot: Their characteristics are giant, bulky. The numeric attributes assigned to them focuses on high on defense and low on mobility. Their on-board firepower is second-to-none. Also recently, most of them now feature remastered, heart-stopping, tear-jerking Gattai(Combine)* and/or Henshin(Transformation)* Cut-in animations^^;
2) Real-Type Robot: The name given for the "human" attributes assigned to these robots. These robots feature high mobility and generic weaponery, their defense weak to a fault. Gundam is such a case. While it is hard to hit by the "Small-fries," when met by the boss-level robots, the legendary Gundam goes down really, really quickly.
*Note: I'm using the Romanized Japanese not to be annoying but because I'm very, very, dissatisfied with the current translation norms
I hope that clears up our term usage^^
Back on Topic though... I do want to see the Classic Mazinger Z and it's subsequent spin-offs... I remember seeing TV broadcast in Chinese(again, in Taiwan) when I was 3 or 4 years old :heh:
Tobikage(literal translation:Flying Shadow) sounds like a fine idea--though I was confused by its integration into the SRW: Impact... The trio and princess are looking for a ninja legend... while Tobikage was right next to them? Oh well, I guess I'll look around^^
Oops, totally forgot to put this on my subbed wish-list... unless it's been licensed and release, then nevermind... I want to see Dancougar!

For Super Robot, there's Gear Fighter Dendoh, which was featured the second GBA game SRWR and to be featured in the upcoming SRWMX for PS2. And so many Mazinger spin-offs it's confusing...We have Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, Grendizer, and Mazinkaiser...which reminds of this 4koma strip.
http://www.dra-mata.com/manga/4koma/a2-4koma07.jpg
As for Real Robots, we have Macross 7(SRWD for GBA), Gundam X, ZZ Gundam, V Gundam, Metal Armor Dragonar(Featured in SRW Advance and to be featured in the upcoming SRWMX as well.) available.
Oh and L-Gaim is Real Robot technically. High Mobility units, Shields, Laser Sabers, things you normally don't see in Super robot anime. That and Tomino basically modified the Gundam plot slightly to suit his needs in L-Gaim, AKA lots of parallels(He did this in the brief gap of gundam production, BTW).

Real Robots: Follows and are limited to the physics and technology of their universe. Are usually (but not always), mass produced military machines. Examples: Gundam, Macross, Nadesico.
Super Robots: Usually capable of doing whatever the hell they want. Usually identifiable by their 'ougi', or final attack. Examples: Getter Robo, Mazinger Z, GaoGaiGar.
Real/Super Hybrids: Are similar to Real Robots (follows and are limited to the physics/technology of their universe), yet they have traits/abilities of Super Robots, so they cannot be classified under Real or Super Robots. Examples: Masoukishins, Evangelion, G Gundams, Aura Battlers.

No it's alright^^, mistakes happen to everybody.
Daimo != Gundam
Daimos is Super Robot Series with a pretty impressive storyline, seeing how it did not quite fall into the "okay, the minion of evil is attacking our Earth, we blast them, the end," scenario/sterotypes.
Allow me to explain without endgame spoilers :)
Ryozaki (first name escapes me... grr, I remember most Kanji names as they were written, not pronounciation) is a Karate Master with a scientist father, who invented a giant transformable robot, Daimos out of a RV Trailer (of all things).
One of those days, a benign race of Aliens (who look just like us, go figure) seeking refuge on Earth from their now-uninhabitable planet, pleads the Earth Government Body for housing their 1 million refugees.
The Earth government body agreed to a diplomatic summit with the Alien race's (Benign) Supreme Leader and his son, a hot-headed Crown Prince. Ryozaki's father is invited to attend. At the summit, the Supreme Leader of the Aliens is assasainated by poison. The summit ground becomes a battlefield with Ryozaki's father shot dead by the grief-stricken Crown Prince; what could have been the beginning of a friendship is now a bloody vendetta fought by Daimos and the Robots of the Alien Race. A bitter Romeo and Juliet-esque love story also runs through out the story.
The reason I say that this isn't as simple as say, Mazinger-Z, is because the "Alien" presented in this show isn't inherently evil. They are, as the story progresses, you will find just as misguided as the Earthlings in terms of hate and misunderstanding. I don't remember was year this was made/broadcast. Is there a fansub or license out there? I'd love to see it^^
I hope you find it helpful :)

Hmm... I can take Chinese but Filipino :uhoh:
I'd like to see Tobikage as a matter of fact but no idea if a fansub is available. It's not licensed and/or released state-side oy.
About Dancougar... is there a DVD release out/pending by a licensor?

The *actual* differences between Super Robot and Real Robot is not just technology/abilities. Yeah Super Robots might do some crazy stuff but a TRUE Super Robot series is pretty much a "super hero" robot which is the last defense against the enemy. It has to be a unique robot with a unique name fighting against enemy that threatens whatever side it's on. It might have "sidekick" robots but nevertheless, a Super Robot show is pretty much a Super hero show with a robot as its hero. Think of classic superhero comics/shows and how the hero comes whenever there's a threat and everyone else looks on and exclaims "So and So is here to save the day!"... That's the kind of feeling that a Super Robot show is supposed to have.
A Real Robot series probably resemble a war drama, or any other non-Superhero type of show. A pure Real Robot series is one in which the main mecha is NOT unique, usually "characterized" as *just* a machine and/or a tool of war instead of something that is admired and even "worshipped" like a Super Robot is. An example of this is Macross and Patlabor, and certain Gundam like the beginning of V Gundam and 08th MS Team (therefore other Gundam DO have Super Robot elements as well. For example, the beginning of MSG was pretty much a toned down version of a typical Super Robot series, with some military connotations thrown in, but once the Gundam becomes involved in the space war where it pretty much is NOT the deciding factor, that's when the Real Robot element first really shows itself).
As for the hybrids, I don't think they can be clumped together like that. For example G Gundam is actually a parody of action anime (mostly tournament-style fighting anime) with Gundams as the "characters". Evangelion and its imitators have elements from both but it can be argued that it's not a Robot anime at all.
----
Anyway, back to the topic... There have been two recent *Super Robot* series that were released on Animesuki, Godanner and Gravion. Of course, these have been significantly modernized so that a modern anime fan can enjoy them, so they both have tons of fanservice. But these two are pretty much homages to the classic Super Robot shows from the 70's.

If anyone interested in helping us out on Chodenji VOLTES V, just pm me.
My friend and i finished episode 1 last year. Sort of a test version really.... only a quarter of it has been translated correctly and (unfortunately) the rest was based on the (sux) dub version/chinese version.
We're using LDs as source.

GaoGaiGar owns your soul.
Its one of the best Super Robot shows to come out the past couple of years.
Wait a couple of weeks to watch the new Shin Getter Robo show, entitled; "DRAGON" :)
Anyone thinking Shin Dragon?
Shin Getter is one of those Super Robots that puts the Super in Super Robots.
STONER SUNSHINE!!!!!

I should have elaborated as to why I'm really interested in seeing the Tobikage Series :)
The SRW: Impact integration of the show left something to be desired--namely, a plot that makes sense :heh: A story revered by much of its original Japanese audience could not have been that bad...
Also, in the game, Tobikage is completely (See: Totally) invincible--which gets me curious as to how it may have actually worked in the original production :heh:
And how come no one's mentioned the "Kids" oriented Super Robot shows like
Da-Gun, Raijin-Oh, Genki, Fi-Bird  I want to see them again...

Tobikage in Impact pwned everything. After-Image(auto-50% chance to dodge attack), the only unit with 2x Action, insane Dodge/Hit Rate, high attack power, it was God.
Basically they turn Tobikage into the completely over-powered Billvine/Sabine/Cybaster from SRW4 (overpowered that is, until the GUEST appeared with their MP units killing everything in one attack...) :heh:
Ah Cybaster...that brings back memories of the first time I saw it in SRW4. SRW4 Akashic Buster = Coolest looking attack ever on the SNES.
For Cybaster, i admit to using the Ranbu No Tachi often. Much like Lazyner`s V Max.
Expecting my first shipment of DVDs this week. Cost was prohibitive but quite worth since they are not Hong Kong bootlegs.

I like the old stuff:
If anyone can tell me where to get this series, please send me a message.
Kotetsu Jeeg
Known in other countries also as Jeeg Robot: Made of steel.
There is a great quality difference between 3 episodes per DVD and the usual squeeze all in one DVD.
I believe it now. The cost is worth the quality. Unfortunately the older series are only available as all-in-one dvds. Since they are most likely VHS conversions, makes no difference right?
