It's kinda hard to find general sites that cover a lot of jrock artists. Sometimes its easier to search for info on each artist seperatly. The two sites below contain some general info that might help:

http://www.projectj.net/

http://www.akfgfan.com/recartist/

As far as magazines...don't know any in english like the newtype ones. One japanese one is Rockin' on Japan.

And for some suggestions, try these bands: Takui, Janne da Arc, L'arc en Ciel, X Japan (very heavy rock), J, and Asian Kung-Fu Generation.

Hope this helps!

Ah~ I'm working on a 'super' rock site that covers jrock, krock, crock, eurorock, indierock, aussierock... It's not finished though, and I don't want to show it until I am. >.>

Anyway, I second Takui, Janne da Arc, X Japan, L'Arc~en~ciel. I also add -

Visual - dir en grey, Nightmare, Raphael, Malice Mizer, Kana
Not Visual - Glay, Tokio, Nana Kitade, Aikawa Nanase, Shiina Ringo, Tokyo Jihen, Buck-Tick, Luna Sea, Siam Shade, The Brilliant Green, Art School, B'z, soulsberry, drumkan, heart bazaar, Zwei

I'll second B'z and add Siam Shade to that list.

Maybe check out Judy and Mary if you're up for something a little lighter :)
