Yeah, those. Although almost unanimously they're now either dead or not as good as they used to be...
Special mention goes out to Pierrot, whose first few albums (Pandora no Hako -> Heaven and half of ID Attack) were awesome, before they degenerated at the exact time I happened to get into them and have now broken up. Sigh.

Chiro's favorite JRock band is Malice Mizer. But not so much Klaha Era. I much prefer Gackt Era. ^_^
My favorite MM song is... Umm... Brise? Madrigal... No Pains, No Gains...? Transylvania? I dunno. I love them all.
T_T RIP, Kami-sama! We miss you sooo much.... It's not fair. Yu~Ki should have died instead of Kami. No one likes Yu~Ki. He's the ugly creepy one. ^_^;;

I'm into all kinds of music, but my favourite J-rock bands at the moment are - Amadeus, Cherry cokes, Deadman, Dir en grey, Ellegarden, FAKE?, gazette, Miyavi and Oblivion Dust.
And I have a special spot in my heart for Oshare kei bands. I <3 them.
However, I tend to avoid the "fandoms" of Japanese music in general, because they scare the hell out of me, especially the girls that refer to hide as god or something.
UGH. That's just creepy. I mean, he was some dude, he's much dead, sure he was cool, but he's been dead for what, 8 years now? Get over it. Just 'cause he's dead doesn't mean he's Jesus #2 something
I was following the Deg fandom for a while, just to keep up with the information... And the "issues" are plain pathetic. Too many bitchy teenage girls in one place, I guess.

... Did you really just wish someone death because you like them less that their bandmate?
Wow. Just... Wow

I like jrock. I like alot of bands from Dir en grey to Art-School, to clavier, to D, to Gazette, to Plastic Tree, to Baroque/Kannivelism my taste in jrock is all over the place. I mostly like j-indies non-visual bands these days like The Back Horn, and Art-School, but I listen to some visual kei, oshari kei, euroguro, and random other stuff. I listen to some Korean music also.
For the people who said Girugamesh, they're awesome! I just got into them not too long ago.

I do listen to Cherry Filter, I love Youjeen's vocals. I've heard of PiA but never listened to their music, heard they were good though. I really like Seo Taiji, and Nell. I used to listen to The Trax, but they haven't released a full album yet, and I heard Rose left the band. :( I wish they'd release an album....
What IS J-Rock anyway?
Rock preformed by Japanese artists or something else?
What would you say is the ex-libris of J-Rock for someone like me to check out?

^That's what it is, Rock performed by Japanese Artists. As for some really great bands....there are quite a few. I recommend the following bands.
Girugamesh
Dir en grey
Luna Sea
Asian Kung Fu Generation
X-Japan
Plastic Tree
The Pillows
Pierrot (too bad their disbanding...*tear*)
Fake?
L'arc~en~ciel
Baroque
HeaRt
Panic Ch*
Merry
Glay
Kagrra
Gazette
Mucc
Malice Mizer
D
Lareine
I like; X Japan, Luna Sea, L'arc en ciel, dir en gray, galneryus, Asian kung fu gen..
If you've heard about 5 j-rock bands then you've heard them all. Originality is nill when it comes to Japanese rock.
Most of the Japanese music I listen to comes from ost's though.
