View Full Version : Sci-Fi. Mecha
i want to try something new.
because i almost never gave mecha, sci-fi genres a chance.
im willing to try some.
preferably romantic drama included. or just drama
if its going to be drama then, i dont want it to mix with comedy.
cuz the only good comedy and drama mix for me is FMA
Zone of The Enders Idolo, Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed, Neon Genesis Evangellion are ones I can think of that are dramatic.

Try Vandread...it's light-hearted for the bulk of the series, but it has serious undertones to it.

Soukyuu no Fafner is shaping up to be a very dramatic series. Shin Getter Robo and Giant Robo are good mecha dramas done in a retro style. You can try any Gundam series except for SD Gundam, although my personal favorites were Gundam X and Gundam 8th MS Team.
If you like the kind of humor/drama mix that's used in FMA, then Vandread may be something you would like.
Mecha?
Gundam, Evangellion, RahXephon, and... Bakuretsu Tenshi has a bit of it. :uhoh:

Kenran Butosai :p Licenced but has pirates, mecha and a 1:1 cute femme ratio to bishie
Stellvia. Also licenced. Mech design is crap, the PMS episodes grating but it's overall characters, plot and crisis execution was so good it is able to match Last Exile as the show to watch in 2003.
Dai-guard. Licenced but one of those hidden gems ppl don't really notice because it's so wierd. Follow the adventures of a trio of salarymen [well, 1 OL, 1 counter clerk and 1 product promoter] as they battle violently dangerous aliens in the most bug ridden, support budget cutting and cheapest super mech in existance >_<
Godannar [season1 licenced]. See supermecha battle a variety of Starcraft inspired monsters [and a rogue Protoss Dark Templar :heh:]. Robot pilots includes huge b00bs, skimpy clothing, lesbians, lolies and a husband/wife team having to deal with an ex-girlfriend messing up the home. Now waiting for the infested Terran army to show up :twitch:

I'd go with Full Metal Panic, it has action, lots of comedy, drama (including some romantic) and not too much mecha for someone that's new to the genre. Not to mention it's spin-off Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu! which is all comedy and action. (these are both licensed btw, at least i think fumoffu is licensed..).
Hmm i think most of you forgot Blue Gender, which contains a very nice plot with a dark and lonely ambiance at the beginning and ends with a rather romantic story.
Mechas are very cool and the animation rocks ! Oh and i forgot that soundtracks are great ! whether they're in english or japanese.

Try Kikou Sennyo Rouran, IMO one of the better Mecha anime in recent time...
And Infinite Ryvius is a great series.
