This thread covers a lot of the series that are coming up soon, although I don't see why Bleach can't have it's own thread. I know I'm looking forward to it.
My plan is to make an animated gif of the first scene where Rukia shoves Ichigo's soul out of his body, the effect looked really cool in the manga and I'm hoping to see it in motion. It may become a new avatar. :D
Does anyone know when Its going to become an anime?
My bad, sorry I diden't read the last part of the first post, just clicked on the link.

The main character is blond(ish) so people think he bleaches his hair like Japanese juvinile delinquents do. (He doesn't though.) That's where the title comes from.
It's a shounen action show with some comedy as well, something along the lines of Naruto or Fullmetal Alchemist.
im kinda sad, cuz studio pierrot is doing it....
look what they did to naruto....
maybe thats just me.....

What exactly did they do to Naruto? Follow the Manga to precisely? Have awesome voice actors? Or Make the Lee and Gaara fight to breathtaking for you?

They did a lot of things, like having piss-bad fillers (97 and 99), ruining some of the fights (Naruto vs Kiba in particular) and overall not being able to match up to the greatness of the manga. And they also did Midori no hibi, which is another series I felt they butched a lot.

Well what animation studio should've done it?
I don't think there are many animation studios that can do a 100+ episode series without having some variation in quality or adding in some fillers.
Besides in my opinion most animes don't match up to their originals anyway.
Im talking about something I know nothing about here anyway I don't even read the Manga for Naruto.:p
Just butting In were I don't belong, don't mind me...
Pierrot is fine, they will make it a big hit. And it's not like anime is expected to be as good as manga anyway. But of course I'm still looking forward it, Bleach anime could be really good. At least the Grand Fisher arc.
the character designs closely resemble those of the manga (Rukia STILL looks a little too much like a boy)
i see this as possible becoming the next naruto/one piece/shaman king

Well, that's about 99% likely...
It will probably be the next Shaman King. IMO, there are a lot of similarities between these two series. Eventually, both of them become mindless fighting series with nothing but fights and the occasional trainings. And both of them have fights that feature sudden ridicious power-ups and one-hit kills. Well, at least I liked Bleach a lot more than Shaman King....... it doesn't get as messy and repetitive as Shaman King.
As for anime series usually being inferior to the manga counterpart, it's a true fact. However, it doesn't have always have to be that way. Look at FMA, it's an example of a manga-to-anime being done right.

Although I don't have high opinions for Studio Pierrot (see Naruto), I must admit that they are quite suited for a long TV series which Bleach will most likely be. Sub-par art quality, but oh well...yay for animated action sequence!
Im talking about something I know nothing about here anyway I don't even read the Manga for Naruto.:p
Just butting In were I don't belong, don't mind me...Shay, you do give up too easily.
What most of the fans do not even consider the fact that the longer-running series will always compromise, either with filler or inconsistent animation or with some other factors. The reasons should be obvious with the example of the past. Animators can stay true to the script/manga if the show is consisted of no more than 26-52 episodes. Comparing small series with longer running series in the basis of "filler" and "animation inconsistency" is just using poor judgement where the lack of clear thinking is too obvious. Like someone suggested, not every studio will be able to handle big projects such as Naruto or One Piece. I suppose ignorance can be a bliss sometime. As far as I know, FMA is anything but staying true to the manga and the series is also supposed to conclude around the episode 52.
What I would like to understand is how the studio is going to handle another potentially longer-running series without compromising the overall quality of atleast one of the show. The workload should weigh a lot more for that studio compare to their current consignment.

Inu Yasha is going to be ending soon. That's Madhouse, I believe, but it will free up a lot of resources from Shounen Jump's budget to pour into the next smash hit.
Kon would be pretty cool. I might also try to make one of Chad with his power activated, but that's going to take a little while to get to, so I'm starting with Rukia's hand through Ichigo's face. :D

Inuyasha is a Shonen Sunday(publisher Shogakukan) manga, not Shonen Jump(Shueisha)... And it's animated by Sunrise.
BTW next Shonen Sunday manga to be animated by Sunrise will be Yakitate!! Japan.

You're right. I hang my fanboy head in shame. :p
I don't think it'll be a problem though. Something will open up, and even if it doesn't, advertising revenue alone on a show like this will probably be enough.
bleach anime should be airing sometime soon and was wondering if any group will be picking up this series?
Enragin_Angel
2004-09-24, 01:26
No, no one is picking up this series.
No wait...actually everyone and their mom is picking up this series.
On here are a list of groups who have announced they are picking up bleach. Remember, these are ONLY the groups who have announced. This won't include all the groups that will pop out of nowhere. I suspect twice as many groups to do bleach than what's on that list.

Yeah, this is one series that I'm definitely looking forward to seeing. =D
it's one of the first Shounen Jump series that was brought stateside before the anime ever existed (sandland is the only other one and that one was just riding the fame of Akira Toriyama)
personally i don't care if the art is a little subpar as long as they maintain Ichigo, Orihime, Chad, and Rukia's personalities (especially Orihime!)
oh...and from the site it looks like they already have a MOVIE planned?!

Pierrot has their BLEACH site up now. There's only the Story, Chracters and Staff/Cast sections.

Ichigo looks pretty good in that picture in the BG. :D But he looks kinda 'bleh' in the Story section. >.>;;
Pierrot seems like a good studio to do Bleach. I am glad for that. It will becoem a smashing hit.

On First reading the manga- I said WTH is Furuba's Kyo/Seiji from Midori no Hibi doing here :twitch: Anymore of his character designs and I'll have to add this guy to the anime clone army of loser male.
About the story itself, I wonder why a houseful of femmes+wierd dad can't figure the lead is cohabiting with an immortal and female angel of death in his closet. Maybe she's invisible to the family :heh: Looking forward to Rukia anyway since it's Orikasa Fumiko in another terminally eccentric role. :heh:
No matter, show will broadcast tommorrow so we shall see if it bombs in execution like TenTen [flashback episodes are bad :(].
hooliganj
2004-10-03, 21:37
I like the flashbacks in TenTen. All the most annoying characters are off screen, although I do miss Bob. :D
They can't see Rukia's soul, because shinigami are supposed to be invisible to anyone who isn't dead, but after Rukia gets the fake body, they should be able to see her just like anyone else.
Ichigo is supposed to be really special, being able to see her while she's on duty, but I think everyone who ends up on the 'squad' has that trait as well - Ichigo, Orihime, Chad, and Quincy Archer. I also suspect that older of Ichigo's little sisters (the one who refuses to admit that she sees the ghosts), and the Childhood Friend (tm) will both eventually develop powers to match the rest of the characters.
And, of course, Don Kannonji will defeat them all with one hand tied behind his back, because he's cool like that. :p
All in all, I'm looking forward to it.
i have a korean subbed promotion video.
the animation looks nice, but i guess its really hard to draw like the original drawings.
voice is not that bad (although i only heard ichigo's voice)
Denen Hiryu
2004-10-04, 00:19
well, for the begining of the topic, what anime is beter then the manga IE berserk manga is way better then the anme BUT the anime is word for word of the manga except no puck made it a girl instead
The promo video was just like I expected. While it was short it did give good picture of what's coming. Ichigo's voice was fitting I guess but the animation style looks indeed little off though thats normal when moving from a comic to an animation. Tomorrow it starts if it's done fine I might well follow it more than just a first episode.

Indeed, I wonder if they'll follow the manga closely or follow their own path.
Bleach has a big world with loads of potential and to follow a different storyline instead of corolation with the manga would't be too bad if it's done good.
Like Yoska said the animation is a bit off and I didn't like Ichigo's voice too much.
but that's (as always) just a matter of getting used to it.
The manga is currently up to chapter 134 so they have loads to go on.
Certainly one to keep your eyes on.
I've read this manga, and the story scheme reminds me of Fullmetal Alchemist in a way, where there's a lot of funny moments combined with some serious situations.
It seems that Bleach is going to be one of the new Anime's coming out. Hopefully it won't be licensed immediately. From what I've seen of the promo just posted today, it looks like the animation is going to kick ass.
I wouldn't be surprised if this anime is one of the most anticipated ones that we have here, along with Naruto.
(My hope is that the licensing companies are put off by the fact that this anime deals a lot with death and the afterlife in a way that's not pc for US sales... but hey, that's just me)
Well, the first episode aires tomorrow. I hope it's good.

Since it's officialy not being subbed YET (i.e. episode 1 hasn't been released yet)
For some reason the mods prefer threads about anime in general anime.
So as soon as ep 1 is on the net the thread will be moved here.
Anyway...go to General anime (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=20024) for now.
and learn you childeren

Wow, I'm so glad you asked because here I am to gush about the ending song "Life is like a Boat" I have the single and it's not like an ending song at all, a very nice piano ballad that's not sweeping or sad or anything, but very..."pure" I guess you could say.
It's sung by Rie Fu (http://www.riefu.com/) , who is one of my favorite new singers. She's lives in England and Japan (+), speaks Japanese and English (++!), has a great voice- not to screechy or grating, but not really low and gravelly either.
I'm going to watch the first Bleach episode just to hear the ending song, and I'll give the anime a chance too. (Although it seems much closer to the Inuyasha/Naruto end of the anime scale than to the, oh say, Paranoia Agent or Last Exile end of the scale.) Boy, that comment sounded stupid :P

Yeah, it won't be over soon. I would say it will go on at least one more mayor (~100 chapters) arc after this current arc. I would like to see more Hallows.

I heard that they use the ghosts to fight. They may have differences, but if the plot lumes on this, then it isn't very original (in comparison to shaman king).
Don't worry though, it's only early speculation. Like I said before, it will hopefully edge away from any connection to shaman king.

Didn't like how they removed the blood from the little girl's face, that's the first thing that caught my eye about the manga. yeah but it's obvious why it's left out the lil girl can't be bleeding it's not appropriate now if the big bad hollow sprays tons of blod that's just ok cuz it's a monster a bleeding little girl is a no no in japan monsters can bleed as much as they want but not little kids same with naruto they don't show a kunai stuck in his palm but they can show tsunade getting cut up same thing, you also didn't see the little girl die in this ep and she did in the manga so who cares i care more for the bloody fights then a lil ghost girl dying

Something of an oversight in the manga I hope isn't translated into the animation.
At the start of the manga, both Ichigo's sisters were able to see ghosts with Karin having the stronger ability. Much later it seems only Karin could do it, his other sister having lost the ability entirely- or maybe it is simply so weak for Yuzu that it might as well be. Have to read through it again and watch the show proper to see :heh:
Anyway, at least the drew Rukia as more feminine here :p But she's still an eccentric tomboy :D

The first episode was fine I think. BGM's weren't as good as I hoped they would be but the voice acting was great. A lot of little changes but the core plot was still there. I loved OP and ED.
Bleach is anything than original. But I would say it's still better than average shounen series like Shaman King, Busou Renkin or Black Cat. Plus Kubo's art is very stylish.

Another change is that in the manga, it is Karin who goes to warn Ichigo, not Yuzu. The two girls basically change places at this part. I wonder why this is?
More changes: Ichigo sees Rukia before she comes into his room(that filler street part), and Ichigo's dad doesn't come upstairs to see who he is talking to.

I'm not the biggest fan of uncalled for changes, so I'd likt to know as well. Maybe they're building up to something.
Otherwise the first ep is usually a bit condensed to fit as much as possible of what the show is really about.
It seems like Lunar is the only group subbing these Fall anime.

the manga is 151 chapters right now so that equals like 75 eps there is no end in sight so it'll probably run forever
I just saw the first episode. This anime seems to the best new anime of the season so far. It reminds me of naruto with its mix of comedy and action, except the action seems to go a lot faster. I also think bleach is rather novel in that usually the main character want to achieve a goal(be shaman king, find dad, be hokage), instead of having some thing thrust upon them like in bleach.
Oh yeah, is it possible for the above posters to put manga comparisons in spoiler tags? I know it's not exactly a spoiler, as it relates to the current episode, but people like me want to stay away from the comparisons that can result in crazy flame wars like in the naruto forum.

I am like soooo totally phyched to see the first episode of Bleach! But I want to make sure I get a good fansub so I was wondering if the Lunar fansub is good. I've never seen their releases but is it like, as good as anbu or aone fansubs? Thanks a bunch. *thrilled Bleach has an anime now* WOOHOOOOO.

Lunar is one of my favorite sub groups, they have a lot of good releases and i was REALLY happy to see them doing Bleach :) No worries, it's an excellent translation (though i do like Viz's "Soul Reaper" translation of Shinigami more than Lunar's "Death god", since they aren't exactly "godlike", they just collect/send souls like Grim Reapers)
really interesting how Viz's manga translation left in more of the Japanese proper nouns (Zanpaku-tou, Kidou so far) than the fansub did :)
also, at the rate things are going, Viz'll (Shonen Jump) be releasing a manga volume that's either ahead or at the same point as the anime :)
the ED absolutely SHOCKED me, i've never heard a song by a japanese singer that blended both japanese and english together so well, and the OP was ok too (sort of like Naruto was at first, then they got the kick ass second opening...come to think of it Bleach's anime production has a LOT in common with Naruto...)
Wai! This looks really good after the first episode. The protaganist reminds me of a combination of..errr. the cat guy from Fruits Basket (forgot his name) coupled with Kyo from Samurai Deeper Kyo. I'll be waiting for the next episode. :D

Sawamura Seiji [Midori no Hibi] came to mind when I first saw the character design :eyebrow: And I thought another translation for Ichigo was protector or guardian?
There are a lot of Ichigo names with different kanjis for each. It does just not mean strawberries ( that is Ichigo 苺 as a noun ).
For this series, Ichigo is written as 一護
I too, thought that Seiji has grown and moved out of Midori no Hibi to take on a new job...

I think at some point in the Manga Ichigo actually remarks how feminine his name is because some character then says it's masculine because of it's beginning or something. Wish I could remember it better.
Anyway. I loved the adaption. At times the art is a little weird getting used to. I *LOVE* Rukia's animation and her voice is so fitting for her personality... Great
Infact most of the voices all seem perfect to me so far. Both of the sisters, Karin's is dead-on what I'd imagine from her personality, same with Yuzo. I can't wait till the school characters appear like Orihime  she looks cute in the opening animation.
just finished watching the first episode and i thought it was great. I hope it continues to be good since FMA just ended  i need to find a replacement.
Average first episode, but i'm curious enough to follow this to see how it develops, and Fumiko Orikasa as a badass girl is always a good thing in my book.
Looks like this may be a good replacement for FMA.

I agree, shinigami should be untranslated. The shinigami is quite well known in Japanese culture (at least in anime and manga) and I think you lose some of the cultural identity in the translation (allthough it is a direct translation).
But this is just my preference, I know there are loads of people that don't like to see any japanese words untranslated.

Methinks they hired the only person capable of doing the girl any justice as a sarcastic, terminally frustrated grim reaper forced to masquerade as a mortal teen girl :heh: But is it me or does Orikasa Fumiko specifically look out for voice roles that are not only a challenge in terms of the array of personalities exhibited, but for being plain wierd as well? Just realised that she has almost always taken up the eccentric meganekko's, smart mouth lolies, fish out of water immortals to even a militant amputee [FMA] in addition to all the straight characters.
Anyway, ANN just updated the cast list: Yuki Matsuoka is taking on Orihime and believe it or not Kubotite [the writer] is playing Kon >_<
About the manga to anime change, it could be to showcase what Rukia is fully capable of in a fight. After the first episode she's basically having trouble battling even the small fry. She's still crippled up to now in the manga so this might be her only chance for some heavy action for a good long time

the episode had it's moments, it's looking promising if predictable. but that's not always a bad thing. the animation was quite good at some points, and it reminded me of naruto at many points, aware that it is th same studio doing it. but i think they brought a few thigns over from naruto

Just watched the episode. I remember reading the manga at Toriyamaworld and not being that impressed with the first chapter, and I didn't like the first half of this episode either - but by the end, it had gotten a lot more interesting, and I'll be following this series. I know how popular it got, so I'll be happy to give it a try.
Wasn't too thrilled by the OP - I love Orange Range's silly ED for Naruto, but this song just...was a bit dull. The animation was good, but the ideas for the animation were lacking. I agree - Ichigo looks and behaves a lot like Sawamura Seiji from Midori no Hibi. I guess the idea is that they're delinquent-types who can be redeemed!
The comedy in the first few scenes with the family didn't entertain me - but when Rukia appears, everything improves a lot. The story proper begins, and I'm interested in Ichigo's powers - and want to see why he can do what he can do.
And is Rukia's seiyuu really Pacifica from Scrapped Princess? Wow! I thought it was the girl who did Touya Akira from Hikaru no Go when I was listening!

Hayamaneko, I was pretty disappointed as well actually. As far as the drawings go I think Ichigo was done the poorest followed by rukia...and those are the only two we've seen...The other characters look good I think though, or at least it seems they will. I liked the OP actually.
On the whole the manga, especially the first two volumes were oooozing style. I don't think they did the best job possible capturing the super cool feel. I think the series will be definitely worth following, but I'm really prefering the manga so far.

When FMA ends, another show starts, ahh i like this, Hopefully it will be interesting ( never read the manga) Hopefully theres even more awsome shows comming out
I predict that in another year or two, this will become as popular as Naruto is now, and fanboys everywhere will discuss in forums about which character is the strongest. Usernames like IchigoRules!!1!!1! will pop up, and there will be arguments about whether he got that name from Ichigo100% (probably an anime by then).
That's of course if this anime rendition survives that long.
yeah but it's obvious why it's left out the lil girl can't be bleeding it's not appropriate now if the big bad hollow sprays tons of blod that's just ok cuz it's a monster a bleeding little girl is a no no in japan monsters can bleed as much as they want but not little kids same with naruto they don't show a kunai stuck in his palm but they can show tsunade getting cut up same thing, you also didn't see the little girl die in this ep and she did in the manga so who cares i care more for the bloody fights then a lil ghost girl dying

From start to finish I was absoloutly sucked in, I could not take my eyes of the screen, simply awesome.
It had all the things I look for in a series, usually it takes me a couple of episodes to get me this exited but that wasn't the case here. NO WAY!

And the music was also exelent. If you havn't seen this anime yet then hurry, go, believe me when I say you're mising out on something special, it's on the main page, go, go now I tell you!

He's not even that :heh: Minor spoiler, but Kon really doesn't have a permanent body...
I didn't think it was possible for Orikasa Fumiko to sound so male, yet at the same time come across as a girl >_< Had money on her using the same voice for Ligene [Natsuiro], so the raging and militant tomboy is pretty new and quite a suprise. Of Rukia's character design- bear in mind that in the manga her head is out of purportion to her body [it's pretty big]. In the animation it comes across as more normal despite being built washboard flat.
I take it that Kubotite is using the anime to correct all his mistakes done for the manga and have fun with his baby at the same time.
One more thing concerning the series lenght. The voice cast for every character introduced till book 14 has already been done. At 3 episodes per book [which is a conservative estimate], this show can easily run into 45+ episodes.

looks like this anime has great potential. I can already tell its gonna be big. Over 2000 seeds and leechers for the 1st ep. I wonder how many ep are their. Probably 50+. But it looks like i am gonna be watching Bleach for a while.
Bleach is a series I began reading shortly after Toriyama World started translation.
Initially I was hooked, with the great animation, funny scenes, and interesting story. But after the first 3 volumes I became quite bored of the ongoing Shishigami v. hollow plotline. When Quincy Archer appeared, and the awakening of more allies to Ichigo's side, the action picked up again.. but then.. the manga was licensed by Viz.
I stopped reading for some many months, until I found Manga-Rain's IRC channel, and continued reading. (and am still).
In sum, not to give the plot away, the story early on I felt was boring, but once the details of Soul Society were further developed (and more characters introduced), things got much better.

Lunar uses Death God, Keep/ANBU use Soul Reaper (like VIZ). Those are probably the two terms which will stand out most to many fans. Of course there are many other differences. One similarity is that both encodes are 23.976 fps.

I think in the supplied picture the main problem is that the word for house ("ie") and the
word for picture ("e") are so alike and it's not easy to hear the difference as there is some
kind of music playing at the time this is being said too.
However after listening to it several times, I do think this is being said:
... kono aho mitai na ie ...
(You can cleary hear "ie" not just "e")
So... in my view: Lunar is right, ANBU got it wrong (assuming as usual ANBU is the
translation-providing part of the join). BUT don't take my word for it! I'm no expert!

The line said is:

Mazu, sono aho mitaina iei wo dounika shiro
Correct translation in my opinion would be:
First of all, do something about that stupid memorial picture
The word 遺影 (iei) certainly sounds pretty much like 家 (ie), but the word used also in the manga is 遺影
ANBU-Keep translation is closer to the manga:

Right... I stand corrected. Like I said, I'm hardly an expert, I knew "ie" and "e", but didn't
consider there possibly being yet another word that fits in this context & sounds similary.

Burner of Anime
2004-10-08, 13:06
I really don't see the need to compare this show to anything else done before or after, it stands or fails on it's own and that is usually the end of the story. Bleach is stuck to formula for the shonen action genre [pure filler, power-ups, endless training, harem, ect], but the interaction between the characters [esp. Rukia's relationship with Ichigo] made this one an easy read IMO.
Where the writer doesn't messup is the use of flashbacks. They are exactly what they are described to be- a flash, then it's back to the present where your attention really matters. Oh!Great and Nobuhiro Watsuki should take lessons from this guy >_< on it's proper use. The first 4 books can be considered as monster of the week material, but also useful to introduce supporting characters critical to the current long arc. So it follows that wheter or not this show will be worth keeping up with will be here as well [est: episode 9-12 with the rival ghost hunter introduced]. Bear with the show till then, if it still doesn't make sence then drop it.
Another thing to bear in mind is the fact that the writer of the manga is not only in command of the storyboard, he's also a voice actor as perhaps his favourite mascot character :heh: We can only guess of his intent on being so close to the adaptation process [which is damned rare], but the first episode itself was used to clear a number of major plot holes on the manga and expand a little more on the leads.
The first I mentioned earlier about the position of the sisters being switched during the attack. One was simply more delicious [refering to the later manga chapters] than the other to the Hollow :twitch: The other plothole was why these monsters suddenly appeared and came after the lead, something the manga never even explained. Ichigo radiates a lot of spiritual energy unconsciously, so much he is able to magnify the presence and abilities of ghosts and other sensitive entities [or fuzz them completely :p] with his presence. Yeah, makes him very popular with both good and bad spirits since they feed off these energies
So before raging on the changes done in the anime, pls think how the alterations will affect an event much later in the books. Not a lot of mangaka get the opportunity to revisit their work and fix something that doesn't make sense to them or attempt to make the entire work more cohesive.

Very well said. I've heard a lot of people complain about these changes but none of them stopped to think why the changes were made.
Oh, and I also like the fact that the little girl didn't get eaten as an appetizer. :D

Personally, Bleach passed the test for me: It kept my attention, interesting characters, and it got to the damn point in the first episode (which a lot of anime has a problem doing).
I see a lot of people didn't like the ED, but I didn't like the OP.
I'll be watching more of this.

Ugh, there is no need for that.
I am REALLY hoping Bleach isn't as popular as Naruto. I want a more subtle success. It was always like that until now when the anime started, signs have been showing, I dearly am hoping...that this doesn't flesh into another Naruto craze like a deja vu. Hearing people constantly overanalyze a cartoon, make imaginary/fictional omens, unnecessary bullshit comparisons that make no sence, people fighting over fiction itself...I want to just avoid crap like that. Not fond of the idea of one of my favorites being put through the gaunlet.
And that thing with Yu Yu Hakusho...I don't see the problem, they aren't mirror images or anything. Shounen? Yeah. What else?

Heh, YYh went from Dead guy having a second chance, to ghost hunting to tournament style fights to nearly becoming the bad@$$ king of hell. Will Bleach head the same way? Personally not interested in speculating :p Reason is pretty simple, this isn't my baby so what's the point in wasting braincells attempting to look into the future. Better to spend the time to just look at the thing and see if it makes sense NOW.
So IMO, does the recent changes to the adaptation make sense? Why yes, it's just a number of overlooked detail from the first time round that didn't add up as the writer was going along. Yeah, even the chair. If you're ever put into a situation where your family is threatened you won't want to waste time looking for a suitable weapon. You'de grab the first thing you can lift and do the smacking right away The core of the first story arc is still there: bloke with abnormal psychic powers suddenly having to take more responsibility than he was originally built for. Unless they mess up and just change the theme of a particular arc, then that would be a legit reason to complain :p

This WILL come, if it has its own forum or not. 2 days after the first episode and here are already 8 pages or so...
If it doesnt get a own forum, the fansub forum will get all those threads, which will be merged with this one, which will make it unreadable....
Lets face it: its popular (even though the manga isnt that well known, but narutos wasnt, too, the first 10 episodes or so), with 7-8000 people on the torrent for the first episode,
its CLASSIC shounen with power ups, power up lvl2, lvl3,ect, a staff of evil guys that are only defeated because they dont use the highest powerup, or dont want to fight seriously, ect (i see it coming: if *that* captain would have cooperated with his sword, he would be MUCH better then *this* captain....), plus
There WILL be "he would beat the crap of of HIM" discussions, and they are better placed in their own forum than in the general anime.

Hard to say which sub is best, although the video quality on the IY-F is awful. Lunar's translation has a bit more character to it, in the same sense as the Hecto/Shinsen Gumi subs of Rurouni Kenshin, if anybody remembers those. :D
And, yeah, Bleach could have its own forum, especially if it would prevent 8+ pages per episode in a single thread, plus whatever the manga manages to generate. If somebody volunteered to strictly moderate the thing, it could be kept from degenerating into the typical shounen-fan insanity, but where would be the fun in that? :p

anyone have any info on the soundtrack? im not "asking" for the music itself, but just the information, like the tracklisting, opening and ending song.
anyone?
and, btw, i thought the first episode was great. i have the first 7 volumes of the manga, but im going to wait for the anime instead this time, unlike naruto.
Yeah, the opening music was pretty good, and it was the first time I heard Japanese rap... :twitch: The ending was a bit too calm to fit in with the anime, in my opinion, sounded more like a theme for a "Last Episode". Unfortunately, it looks as if all of the fighting will be hack & slash (from the first episode and the opening theme), which can get boring. This anime has great potential and I'm going to stick with it! Unless it gets too crazy... *remembers talking teddy bear*

I liked the show, though i thought he resembled Naruto to much for my liking, but hey its still a decent show :)
As for the opening track, i despise it, ive never heard anything so bad in my life, i thought naruto had bad opening music but this is worse, thank gods for fast forward :P
I love the ending track though, and i personally think it fits really well with the series. The problem im seeing is that it's most likely going to be licensed before its finished, so im going to have to think on if its worth getting into the show or not.

I didn't mind the changes in Anime but...
In the manga it was explained why hallow attacked. The hallow was after Ichigo's family because of his huge spiritual pressure. I always thought the reason Karin was the one who warned Ichigo because she was able to, unlike Suzu, to saw the hallow and thus avoid it's attack.
And about Ichigo's huge power, my theory is...
He's mom was a former shinigami. This would explain why all her childrens have powers and how she knew about Grand Fisher's trap and could save Ichigo from it.

Well, I must say Bleach appears interesting. In a way it reminds me of Mirage of Blaze (if anyone watched that), the whole roaming spirits aspect. From the first episode, it seems like the concept of "belief" might be a focal point of the series.
Further thoughts:
Bleach also seems able to go from a comic moment to a serious moment in a flash. In that way it reminds me of Full Metal Panic. I found the whole "spaz dad" thing to be odd. :twitch: I thought it was funny when he kicked the "Soul Reaper", and the dialogue between them in the room. :nono: Does anyone think the "evil spirits" they battled near the end looked like an Evangelion from Eva?

There seems to be a few designs borrowed from Eva, such as a Chad's arm.
Strange... so many ppl hate the opening song, but I really like it.
I can think of many anime songs that are worst than this one (don't kill me people who loved the songs I am about to list)... ie) the fourth Naruto opening, Trigun ending theme, Madax opening...
But I guess each to his own. I just like songs that are rockish. I would not call this song Japanese rap. Rap is Samurai Champloo. They sing too much in this song to be rap.
On the subject of music, I really hope that the anime lives up to my expectations when it comes to the soundtrack. If you read the character profiles at the end of each manga volume, you'll notice that Tite Kubo has given each character a theme song. While I wouldn't expect any of these songs to appear in the series, it's pretty evident that he has his own ideas about how the manga should sound.
This is something that made the manga stand out for me, that the visual style constantly cries out for background music, like how all the chapter in-betweeners look like album covers or something. Shinova mentioned how the OP reminded him of The Pillow's work, which I kinda agree with. More importantly, I was really pleased with the visuals during the OP, and how well they carried the manga's style. I think if Studio Pierrot can take a page out of FLCL's book and really go with the music, they can pull this series off.
The ending gets two thumbs up, for seemless English and Japanese in the same song. If Bleach does end up being a long series, we can probably expect the OP and ED to change at least once, so I hope they continue to pick interesting music.

....The comedy in the first few scenes with the family didn't entertain me - but when Rukia appears, everything improves a lot. The story proper begins, and I'm interested in Ichigo's powers - and want to see why he can do what he can do.
Well, if you are watching this anime to find out why Ichigo has such powers, you are going to have to wait for a loooooooonnnnnnnnggggg time. Even the manga, now on chapter 152 in Japan, have yet to shed some light on Ichigo's powers. Some hints are put in here and there, but right now all we can do is speculate and make our own theories.

Why Rukia needs to smack Ichigo with that death's head glove so that he can battle hollows in Shinigami form? We only know she has to do it, the how and why are absent. Pray they fix this in the animation.

At least in the earlier volumes, Ichigo doesn't have the ability to seperate his soul from his body at will, so Rukia has to do it for him whenever they need him to use his shinigami powers. I don't know that she necessarily has to hit him as hard as she does, but that's the kind of character she is, and he probably deserves it anyway. :D
Besides why didn't hallows attack earlier the only other "plot hole" I have ever noticed is
if Ichigo's sword is from Rukia does that mean Zangetsu was originally meant to be Rukia's sword's real form?
It could be pretty interesting scene if our small Rukia would use such a big sword like Zangetsu :heh: .
It's possible Kubo didn't have full concept of shinigami swords in his mind when the series started and now the anime could perhaps fix this if it even is a plot hole.

No, Zangetsu is Ichigo's own sword. This part was explained in the manga. Remember when Ichigo first met Zangetsu, Zangetsu told Ichigo to find his own shinigami powers in one of the boxes. He also explained when Byakuya destoryed Ichigo's shinigami powers, he only destroyed the part given by Rukia. Byakuya did not know that Ichigo also had his own shinigami powers hidden inside. Since Byakuya did not destory Ichigo's own shinigami powers (only Rukia's), Ichigo was able to ragain his shinigami state during vol 8, Chapter 64, Back in Black. All the powers used after the encounter with Byakuya should be Ichigo's own.

Neither look special, in my opinion. Cloud's is a simple buster sword, and Ichigo's just looks like a plain Broad Sword. Ichigo's sword is a lot smaller than Cloud's. And... WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING?! :-P

Just watched the second episode, here are some thoughts.
Grand Fisher does show up for a few seconds, which was quite a surprise considering he's not supposed to show up till later. Turns out they changed it so that it's Grand Fisher and his minions that turns Orihime's Brother into a Hollow. I guess Kubo Tite wanted to fill in the plot hole in how Orihime's brother because a hollow in the first place. It was mentioned in the manga that only spirits who lost their "soul" or have extreme desires to stay in the world of the living would turn into a Hollow. Well Orihime's brother fits none of those catagories. He wan't a insane killer, nor did he have any violent desires still to be fullfilled. He may feel regret not be able to take care of Orihime anymore but it certainly not a good enough reason to turn him evil.
Anyways, we are going pretty fast. At this rate, if there's no fillers, we are going to the Soul Society Arc probably in about 15? 20? episodes? Maybe less/more? haha...I'm pretty bad at estimating.....

I'm guessing it will take about 25-30. When it happens, I think we'll get a new OP and ED. I'm a bit worried about the speed of the anime... the last thing I want is for them to Narutofy it and make RANDOM arcs. That would destroy all that's right with the world </exaggeration>

Really loving the anime version, I like what they did to turn Orihime's brother into a hollow. Plus it really gives more meaning to when Grand Fisher does show up.
Loving the Rukia voice and Orihime is perfect. I couldn't stop laughing at those sounds as she backs and runs away from Ichigo in the hall...And she looks really cute in the anime too. Tatsuki's voice is pretty perfect too, and from the one thing Chad said he sounds great too.
and wow, DON KANONJI! BO-HA-HA-HA-HA! ;)
Bleach has so many minor characters they could probably keep having one show up early for these next episode previews for about 30+ shows easy.

Posting this from somewhere else:
Hmm, I did a little research, and it seems the whole being eaten by Hollows theory might be officially valid after all.
In the Viz novel Vol. 1, page 117, Rukia says,
"Hollows are fallen souls. Souls that were not admitted to the soul society by a soul reaper...souls that were left behind...souls that weren't saved from other hollows. These fall, lose their hearts...and become hollows themselves."
I also checked the toriyama world scanlation, which essentially says the same thing.
So, if we assume that translation is correct, then this scene isn't really different from the manga - more like expanding on what we didn't see in it.

The waves keep on comin’ and we can’t escape
But if we ever get lost on our way
The waves will guide you through another day
I know we have so far to go
Within the connections I see
Thoughts of darkness, and so
I adjust my mask of serenity
I offer up a prayer
And wait for a new day
In the brilliance of the shining sea
Until there is a shore
Nobody knows who I really am
Maybe they just don’t give a damn
But if I ever need someone to come along
I know you will follow me and keep me strong
People go fishing in their hearts
And have become deceitful
And again a new cycle of the moon
Brings someone into my heart (note: this verse had me the most confused  )
And every time I see your face
The ocean seeps out of my heart
You make me wanna strain at the oars
And soon I can see the shore
Oh, I can see the shore
When will my heart see the shore?
I want you to know who I really am
I never thought I’d feel this way towards you
And if you ever need someone to come along
I will follow you and keep you strong
Still, the journey continues on
Even on a gentle day
And again a new cycle of the moon
Sends a shine into my heart
I offer up a prayer
And wait for a new day
In the brilliance of the shining sea
Until there is a shore
And every time I see your face
The ocean seeps out of my heart
You make me wanna strain at the oars
And soon I can see the shore
To the uncertain fate of the heart
The waves are the stages of the moon
To us it seems as if
It’s a wonderful journey
What a wonderful journey

edit: Thanks for the offer, Shay and I'm glad I could help, but I don't have any intention of using gmail for now, so save the invite for a rainy day. :)
Actually our TL did the whole song before the series even aired in preperation (since we didn't know which parts would be in the TV-version)...
I can't send, as it's his work... but you can ask him in our channel if he'd be willing to share it...
Ok whats your channel? Whats his name? or better yet just ask him for me, if he already has it without having to use his brain (Copy and Paste) then i'm sure he'd just gladly give it to you, don't you think?
I'm even offering sexual favours now....(Or the next best thing anyway)
Edit: *Listening and reading* brb.
Edit:2 People go fishing in their hearts

That makes perfect sense, well to me anyway. brb
Edit:3 Ok done. Thank you so much hooliganj that sounds just perfect to me, and can't you just tell why it's a Japanese English mix? It just wouldn't sound right in all English. Oh how I love this song, and her voice is just perfect for it, I don't think anyone else could have pulled it off. And she live in the UK aswell I may have to become a stalker.:p Ok now for the rewards! Pos rep and a gmail invite is on it's way. Is that ok with you?
Again thank you ever so much.
Edit:4 Just pm me any old email and i'll get that gmail invite to you a.s.a.p Even if you already have one it can't harm to have another can it? I have a couple myself and have invites coming out of my ears. :heh:
But thanks again. Wow I really was desperate. *Takes a deep breath I have it now calm down*
Edit:5 Ok....I respect you even more now. Expect good rep on a regular basis, well as regular as AS will allow me. ;)

Does Orihime have the largest breasts in the manga or does that Blonde Vice-Captain with the mole? She's prettty stacked, it might be that Orihime has a smaller frame so her breasts look even more gigantic on it?

Oh, you just HAD to double-dare me didn't you?!

Wow, I was wrong - they've stayed pretty consistent with the manga after all.
In response to the above poster about the vice captain:

Tough call, but I think Ganjyuu's sister (on the right) would have to take the crown for biggest bust...

Yes, plus souls eaten by Hollows turn into Hollows. It's cool how they added Grand Fisher's invfluence so early in the series. ^^
also did anyone catch that boogiepop cell phone theme during the scene when Rukia was being suspicious of Orihime's bruises?
Ah! You noticed that, but you didn't understand it. I believe you meant the tune right after Orihime turns to leave and continuing while she crosses the street.
That wasn't a cell phone or Boogiepop. That was the sound of the crossing walk. Many crossingwalks in Boogiepop played that song also and you'll notice it in other anime from time to time. The melody is actually a traditional japanese song. I understand that while many crossing walks used to play that song, it is now very rare to find one.

Not quite, Rukia seems to have grown a cupsize
But Orihime has been rather boring in the manga up till chapter 14 [the last one I read]. Pray this changes.

When I was in Fukuoka the crosswalks used one melody for north/south one direction and a different melody for east/west. I can't remember if it was the same song as this one in Bleach though. v_v
Crosswalks in Okayama used the same cheep cheep/kuku kuku sound that I hear in Los Angeles.

OMG, Rukia is so funny. The way she talking to people was a riot. The accent was..... lol. She tries so hard to fit into "normal" society. =D

Wow really?! I learned something new about metro-japanese culture =] I always thought all the animes borrowed the theme haha... Cuz they had it in Animatrix as well :heh: I always thought it was a cell phone ring tone haha.. altho it would be tite to have a ring tone like that..

I don't care too much for the changes, because I feel a lot of the manga's slight downfalls have been corrected.
I am loving Bleach so far. I can't wait for next week >__<

I wonder what book did she use to learn how to address others, one about old Imperial Japanese Navy? :) The officers were supposed to "kisama" each other AFAIR.

Wow. I set my expectations way too high cause it looked like Naruto's team did this. I was not impressed with the first episode so I guess its just not my thing. I don't get a chance to read the manga so maybe thats why. Cliche's up the wazoo but I'm not gonna bore people with the reasons why I don't like it cause many people here do.

Actually, if you have the Animatrix DVD, check the extras for the making of Beyond. The director explains a bit about the tune and what it means.

Well I believe Rukia was reading shoujo manga in the manga at one point.

You outet yourself as a narutard, boy.
Cliche up the wazoo is something i would rather bring in connection with naruto...

Viz translates the title of this manga as "The Jade Hermitage", and gives a brief description between chapters three and four:
Written by: Marie Hatsue
A story about soft-masochist Marianne (older sister) and hard-gay Francoise (younger sister) doing all sorts of things over ajade box given to them by their mother (52-year-old-wrestler). Super scary stuff.
Although perhaps what makes it more scary is that Francoise is actually Marianne's younger brother! At least, that's how TW translated it. So I looked it up in my Japanese copy of Bleach, and there it was; the kanji for younger brother (Äï). Anyway, I'm getting too interested in a manga-within-a-manga, the point was that Rukia is indeed trying to learn modern Japanese through shoujo manga, of the horror variety.

erm i hope this isn't a stupid question but errr... i'm kinda learning Japanese on my own so help me on this one if someone can
Shinu-gami is what their saying right?
Direct transalation is Death - God....
but Kami is God in the dictionary and can't find Gami... so err... can someone explain the grammatical implications of this...
and another thing... just in case ppl haven't seen it yet
if she punches his soul out of his body... does that mean his body is dead or just souless??
here's a fansub comparison thread as always, if you haven't seen it:
here! (http://www.anime-planet.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13681)
asakura, about 2-3 pages of the discussion above are JUST on the term shinigami, haha... so if you want various fansubber opinions, that's the place to look ;)
"Pfft. Anybody who's anybody knows that shinigami translates to "Death Hair"..."
The problem solved :D

Just souless, and other souls can go inside his body when it's empty.

I just watched the first 2 eps. and was pleased. I read a little of the manga but now much so I didn't have too many expectations. I thought the action sequences were great. I also enjoyed the look of the anime.
I might have a new passion.
