I see that the funimation release of DBGT is only 49 eps but I see information that shows that tho original show is 64 ep.
I have also seen information that the funimation release (of 49) eps is simply the japanese release minus thefirst sixteen eps.
But this makes no sense because this would only make the funimation release 48 eps (17-64).
1. Can some one clarify this situation for me?
2. Where the missing eps (I assume the first 16 ever released on DVD)?
Thanks in advance.

1. They skipped the first 16 episodes and turned it into a poorly done clipshow of what happened during the whole time so they can get to the fighting. (I'm not joking here people.)
2. They are not released on DVD and never will be due to their laziness. Technically in the dub there will be 49 episodes due to the rushing of the recap of the 16 episodes they skipped.
Yes, those are the honest-to-God answers, but their might be someone on the board who can give a more vague answer.

They're being released, contrary to what Razer_2mb says.
FUNimation has released a DVDs titled "The Lost Episodes - V.01 (http://www.dragonballgt.com/index2_gt.cfm?page=dvdvideo&id=175)" which seems to contain the episodes that pickup right after the World Martial Arts Tournament. Infact, they were shown on Canadian television and the first episodes shown of Dragonbal GT seems to match the description of the episodes on that DVD.
So there's hope yet!

They are releasing the early eps as "The lost episodes" on dvd. Pretty lame IMO. This doesn't make me feel very good knowing they are the ones doing FMA.

Except that Dragonball is a series that anyone would milk cause it's got 400+ episodes total (DB->DBGT) with more fans than many series combined.
I'd milk it. Then I'd do like Funimation and turn the money around to do an awesome job on other shows like Kiddy Grade and FMA, which they've done.
And they're still releasing the the entire series, uncut. So what if it's out of order. It's not like the show has a core plot that can be drastically affected. Funimation knows that the fans are there for the fights, so they aim for those first. Go throw stones at 4kids and Nelvana for doing butcher jobs.

I know funimation only released a 49 episode run.
But I know the japanese run is 64 eps.
My question is how does the funimation release line up with the jap release.
Meaning what ep in the funimation release corresponds to what ep in the jap release.
People have told me that eps 1-49 in funimation line up with eps 17-64 and that eps 1-16 were never released stateside.
Can some one clarify this for me?

Yes...funimation released ep 1 then 17-64 and skipped 2-16 or however many were in the beginning...but they are/have released 2-16 as "lost episodes" on dvd...so all of the eps are being released...
as for which ep coresponds to which...i'm pretty sure that they match up exactly to the jap counterparts...correct me if i'm wrong
