What're some good manga that are out there right now? I'm currently reading HxH, Naruto, Fruits Basket and just started Death Note. I like action/drama series mostly. So if anyone has any recommendations, let me know, thanks.

Hot Gimmick! Lots of drama, no action. How about Trigun or Hellsing, then?

Holy cow, there are tons of awesome manga out there! Being a complete manga freak, I could literally reccomend dozens. Since you asked for action/drama, though, I'll just give you a few of those. Do you like your action/drama to have a dose of humor in it?

action:

Black Cat
MAR
Fullmetal Alchemist
Bleach

drama:

SaiKano
Kimi no Kakera
Lament of the Lamb [hitsuji no uta]

I figured a few is enough. I could also reccomend a few manwha titles, but I don't read as much of it as I do manga. If you want more reccomendations, I could compile a nice big list for you. XD

If you like Death Note you should read 20th Century Boys, they both have a "I MUST KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!" effect on me. Also try Gantz and Berserk :D.

The best action manga out right now is definitely One Piece. Berserk and Tenjou Tenge are some good currently running manga series. There's also Bleach and Blade of the Immortal which is one of the best manga series I've read.

Ranma is really addictive (not as quite as good as Fruits Basket though). If you can get a much of the manga for cheap, then go for it. 38 volumes in all, and if you're like me, you'll probably finish all of them in a week or two.

BTW, how is HxH?

I'm thinking of starting Sai Kano now because of the recommendations...

If you like Naruto, you'd probably like HxH. It was so inventive in the beginning, but turned to crap years ago and I haven't read it since then. Same for Naruto, actually... only it turned to crap not so long ago.

And to the original poster, I'd recommend broadening your horizons... go to Omanga and grab the first volume of some of those, even if you don't think you'll like it. Same for MangaScreener (although I highly rcommend Beck, as it's my favorite project they do). Kimi no Kakera's great, too, but I'm biased since my group does that one. Same thing for Yakitate!! Japan and Nodame Cantabile. Also, since you obviously need something other than shounen series, I'd recomment Say Hello to Blackjack and that you look through Shoujo Magic and see what they're doing right now.

Well I'd also recommend HxH which is a lot better than Naruto IMO. But how exactly did it turn to crap years ago? HxH was always good the peak at the Ryodan arc, the ant arc is 'iffy' but still about the same level as Naruto stuff is right now.

If you're curious about my position on HxH in detail, then I'd suggest looking through some old posts on the subject, as I'm sure I've ranted about it here at least once (although I suppose those may have been lost when the forum moved around like... 7 months ago...? later?).

But basically, I find the video game story (and most of what lead up to it, aside from the very beginning of the auction arc) to be one of the most retarded things I've ever seen. And the fact that his story telling has turned into something that looks, at least to me, as if it's been made up on the fly ("Hey! Let's have them go to an auction!" ... "I feel like drawing a giant ant...", etc). It feels like when you write stories and pass them around a group, with each member writing an addition to what the person in front of them wrote and eventually you end up with something laughably bad, which would be fine if that was the original intent, but this is supposed to be serious. Just my opinion, take it or leave.

Btw, I stopped reading it after about 5 chapters into the Greed Island thing (with the cards and stuff...). But I really liked it through the entire hunter exam, all the way up to them meeting in that town. Really, through to the end of the original television series, I thought it was a wonderful manga.

Bleach - A badass classic with badass fighting scenes
Ichigo 100% - Hilarious romantic comedy with the cutest girls ever drawn!
Rurouni Kenshin - Deeply dramatic historical action. A must read.
Yakitate Japan - A manga about... baking bread!?! (Trust me, it's fantastic)
Tenjou Tenge - An Oh!Great manga, it's meant to be violent and gory with ecchi galore.
Pretty Face - A little old, but very cute semi-romantic comedy with some gender-bounding fun... :uhoh:
NOW! / Chun Rang Yul Jun - Historical fighting with a dash of magic thrown in. Gorgeous artwork in a Korean setting.

This is actually a rather diverse mix of shounen fighting, comedic romance, historical fiction, and randomness (What would one classify Yakitate Japan as?). Hope you find something worth reading ^^.

What exactly is Gantz about? I am now reading Bleach again and Death Note. I'm liking both so far, especially Death Note. I'm thinking of checking Gantz out but want to know more about it.

Sci-Fi + Alien-Hunting + Game-ish = Gantz

so basically gantz is about Kei, trying to kill aliens to save himself from dieing.
im keeping the spoil meter low as can be.
