I just started learning japanese and thought wat better way to fast track it then to watch animes. So.... I was wondering which fansubbers does the most accurate translation.

That's nearly impossible question to answer...

But I'm fairly confident about most of my translation, having 15 years each of native experience in Japanese and English... (#Froth-Bite, ex-#Infusion)

Mine are not extremely accurate, because I am still learning the langauge, and because many times Japanese meaning cannot be expressed in English (like "itadakimasu"). Check some of the older groups for 99%+ translation accuracy.

I think a large majority of fansub translators can understand everything that is said in a show. The difficulty and difference lie in their expressing the equivalent in English.

However, "fast tracking" by watching anime will ensure that you won't learn the language properly.

Sorry, but this question is impossible to answer. There are too many different ways to translate. For a very simple example, is it best to use Mr. Takeshi, Takeshi-san or Takeshi? This comes down to the group's philosophy of translation.

Also, most large groups have more than one translator and some are better than others so you will see some shows better translated and/or edited than other shows even though they are done by the same group.

While some groups (as rule of thumb) do a better job than other groups, I'd rather not get into the group wars that pop up once people start to name names. Once certain groups are pointed out as being generally bad it gets pretty ugly.

If you really want to know more about this subject I would suggest that you check out Anime-Planet's Fansub Comparison Forum (http://www.anime-planet.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=25). In that forum you will find specific reviews of different groups subbing of specific series. For some shows episodes are deconstructed by reviewing the translation of specific lines. Runpsicat in particular does this when she reviews fansubs. The reviewer shows the line in Japanese, offers their translation of it and then shows how it was translated by each of the groups that did that show.

If you really want a good answer to this question, just read their forum carefully.
