View Full Version : Under 17 disbanded!
Just saw the news on Moon Phase:
Offical statement from Under 17 (http://www.nakid.jp/)
It's all too sudden....
Awww... my favourite band... er... duo... disbanded? ;_;
I rather liked the combination of Halko's voice and Koike's guitarplay...

Can anyone do a full translation of that page please?

Basically the page said (I only read the first paragraph or so) that they had always forged their own path and tried different things, but their goals as members went in different directions, so after a lot of debate they split up. And I didn't feel like reading beyond that.
As someone who doesn't like Japanese music much in general, and holds a special loathing for the over 17-year-old harpies in UNDER17, this news has literally made my fairly rough day.
Also, what the hell is ansebu in katakana?

I liked their stuff quite a bit, sorry to see them disband. Oh well. Life goes on.

Ansebu is one of those funky Japanese abbreviations, like pasokon.
(Incase you can't figure it out from that, it's an abbreviation for "UNDER17".)

Andaa Sebuntiin naturally shortens to Ansebu, right? :D
And AndrewLB, you can rest a little easier knowing that you are not alone in your celebrations. This was an awful group specializing in too-high-pitched, off-key wannabe singing, and I'm not the least bit sad to see it go.
i've only heard the song that they did for DearS.
Is the rest of their songs anything like that? or is it totally differnet?

I heard music that they did for Popotan also. :D
yeah, a lot like the DearS OP. Fun silly stuff.

No more lolicore.
No more leet guitars.
Boo hoo.
Oh well, there's always I've Sound.
awww i really liked their songs too...
it's weird, but some of their recent songs weren't all THAT high pitched for whatever reason (maybe a sign of things to come i dunno)
for someone who grew up listening to the cream of crap that is american pop music, bands like under17 were a nice change of pace

No they aren't. Sweet Jesus, person whose gender I dn't know so I can't make sexist comments, Japanese pop music is a LOT worse than American pop music, which is pretty bad to begin with. Trust me, I know, I've listen to Japanese crap for years and only recently weened myself off it through a combination of Elvis, Paul Simon, and 90s bands.
Ah well, sadly, I know for a fact that a bunch of other bands who are exactely the same will spring up and be doing show openings pretty soon. Just, right here, right now, knowing that I'll never have to listen to another song talking about slavery or touching someone whose voice can shatter reinforced glass is a wonderful, wonderful feeling.

UNDER17 isn't pop. It's in a genre of its own.
Lolicore.
And almost all US pop songs nowadays are pure recycled tripe. The songs are all about lovey doveyness. Blah.
And don't forget the horror that is Hip hop and RAP. RAP.

You say "Lolicore" as if that's a good thing. And yes, Rap and Hip Hop suck (mostly, to this day I still love Baby Got Back), but comparing shitty music to other shitty music and saying "Hah, mine is marginally better because it has its own pedophilic genre!" is like randomly squatting next to some poor camper in the woods, taking a dump, and then saying "LOOK! MINE HAS WHOLE PIECES OF CORN AND FOR SOME REASON, A PARTIALLY DIGESTED QUARTER!"
Yeah.

Heh, I was just joking about the lolicore genre, in case you didn't notice. :)
Anyway, one man's meat is another man's poison, as they all say.

The thing is, Lolicore sounds like something the Japanese would actually DO. And you're wrong. Everyone who disagrees with my musical preference is WRONG!
Now go listen to Paul Simon.

The only reason I find Jpop marginally more tolerable than US pop is that it's a lot easier to ignore the lyrics when they're in a foreign language. Pop is pop no matter where you go.
Which isn't to say that the various pop movements through the ages all over the world haven't produced their fair share of good bands and songs, but Under 17 wasn't one of them, and I doubt they'll be remembered as much more than yet another generic group.
:topicoff:
I know a woman {who} became a wife.
These are the very words she uses to describe her life.
"A good day ain't got no rain.
A bad day's when I lie in bed and think of things
That might've been."
or maybe
I sit by my window and watch the cars go by.
I fear I'll do some damage one fine day.
But I would not be convicted by a jury of my peers,
Still crazy after all these years.
Aww.... really? Aiyah~ Just when i start to like UNDER17 they wanted to disband already har? That is just too sudden... fuh... when i called up my friends about this, most of them also feel bad about this news....
sigh~
And you're wrong. Everyone who disagrees with my musical preference is WRONG!
Who ever says this is just plain WRONG!
You can say you don't like the genre, but it's never wrong for anyone to like a certain genre.

I doubt it; UNDER17's target audience is completely different from, say, Utada Hikaru's or Morning Musume's (which is exactly why it shouldn't be called pop, like Zephronite said, though I beleive the name of genre is 'denpa', not 'lolicore'), a target audience where they, in fact, are quite popular (just look at any denpa music site - UNDER17 is often one of the first names to get mentioned). If you were talking about not being 'remembered as much more than yet another generic group' by the general public, you might be right, though.

I'm pretty sure he was sarcastic about that... at least, I hope so.

Well that surely explained something I found recently.
Wonder if Momoi is going to continue singing or if that's basically it... She has such a cute voice.

She is still singing under Nakahara Komugi's name, which as far as I know, has no relation with UNDER17. In fact, I think she released a mini-album a few weeks ago...

Ah, my, band break ups are sad. I hope the best for them.
This is pretty bad >.<
But we can't do anything about it.

Lolicore. That reminds me something, if you see what I mean :D
