Heh, do i have to be chinese to watch Shaolin Soccer?
FYI, Shaolin Soccer was recently released onto the big screen in North America by Miramax, though i found the un-dubbed original from Hong Kong to be much better.

And yes, i watched Shaolin Soccer :D

are they glass kind or are they soft contact?... cuz you have to throw soft ones away... and it would blow royally to throw away 200$ of contact lenses... but damn. i want the byakugan contacts already!

I guess you could keep one in storage and use it after the first one breaks or wears out or whatever they do.

But now i have to ruin my own eysight just so i can get my parents to pay for them :). Will watching anime close to the tv screen do the trick, or will i just get epelepcy and get nonstop segurs (horrible at spelling). Any suggestions?

Those lenses are not that good, they are not meant for everyday use, and would probobly hurt like hell once they were put on. Vin Disel used similar ones and siad it felt like metal in his eyes...looks sweet though ^_^

these are not meant for every day use at all, and most likely do feel like metal in your eyes. i wouldn't be surprised if they wore out after wearing them for awhile, or at least cause some unpleasant eye problems (aside from vision problems :heh:)

anyway, most of these lenses block vision a slight bit probably.

anyone know how you would even get them for a subscription?

from 9mmsfx.com faq page:
Q. Are the contact lenses used by 9mm Special Effects FDA approved?
A. Yes, the contact lenses used by 9mm are approved by the FDA.

Q. What's the difference between your theatrical contact lenses and others?
A. Our theatrical contact lenses are individually hand painted by the leading artist in the industry. Others are merely stamped by a machine or imported from outside the country. Some just sell theatrical lenses as a way to make a quick buck, often overlooking detail.*

Q. How long after I place my order will the lenses ship?

A. Orders will ship in a minimum of 5 to 10 business days. Prescription lenses may take longer. Keep in mind that all of our lenses are custom, and are made to order.

Q. Does the price include lenses with a prescription?
A. Yes, the price includes lenses with or without prescriptions. There may however be additional charges for torics and very high/lowprescriptions (+ or - 10.00 or greater).

Q. Can I order lenses without a corrective prescription?
A. Yes, you can order lenses with a plano prescription.

Q. What about custom designs?
A. Our artist can custom design just about anything that you can imagine.

Q. How long will theatrical contact lenses last?
A. Your theatrical contact lenses can last* several years as long as you take proper care of them.

Q. What solutions should I use to clean my theatrical contact lenses?
A. We suggest using the "Quick Care" cleaning and storage solution by CibaVision.

Q. Can you see out of the Blind Eye, Dead Eye or Stitches (no Vision) lenses?
A. No, if we cover the pupil you will not be able to see.

im not sure...they said they are hand painted on that site, so could be...and for $200 i'd probobly take their suggestion.

the red contacts i got by looking through yahoo shopping for the lowest price i could find...$60 including shipping isnt bad...but ive been thinking of using a permanent marker like a sharpie or something to make the 3 dots, but i dont want to f my eye up...still temped though. :uhoh:

These are really nice ^^ does anyone already have those? really if they sell them without lens change,, so just for people without glasses ;)

AND are they durable? how to store them and such.....

DjDeluxay
2004-02-12, 12:56
still got the site from yahoo shopping. I might call that site with the kakashi contacts, and ask them what do they use. I don't think they have the right to deny telling me. For all they know i could be allergic to some things. Then, you can buy it, if its not TOO expensive, and paint it your self. haha
I assume they are durable. Just be careful when you put them in the storage case. When i had my first trial pair. I just put them in anyway. The next time i opened them the lid(screw part) had torn one of them apart. So i know not to make the same mistake again.
Especially with $250 pair of contacts. Take the best of care to them.
What do you mean by "without lens change" No prescription/correct? Yes, you can get them, but you still have to go see your eye docter to get a "plano prescription" meaning no correction.
I am going to get them by the end of this month, i hope....

Does anyone know if the sharigan lenses by 9mmsfx can be tailored to be blue blocking lenses? This means they filter the blue spectrim greatly reducing eye strain. I want them made this way because I am on my computer for hours every day and this causes computer vision syndrom. Basically the contact lenses would have to be tinted in an amber color, yellow and its variations are blue blockers. This wouldnt make the world look yellow or brow, it would actually enhance colors and contrast....

I dont know if this is ok to post here but im sorry if its off topic..
Thanks,

the contacts would be a big waist of money becuase that is like 200 bucks just to sit at your comp and the contacts would eventually wear out ... a friend of mine says they wear down fast and arnt good after a while

ChaosBlizzard
2004-03-23, 19:59
The site says they last for years. I wouldnt get those soft ones, id get the hard kind that last much longer. The ones that feel like metal. I wouldnt mind, i'd just get my eyes curve found out, so I could have em customized.. I also wanted to wear them outside, they reduce eyestrain by filtering the blue light spectrum. The sun puts out a lot of blue light, and im very sensitive to it. I cant go outside without squinting at all.

fenikkusu
2004-03-23, 20:01
they can last for years..but if u wear them every day all day i dont think they do ... that would break them down ..they r made for the ocational wearing for a party or sumthing. i still dont see why to where them while sittin infront of the comp

ChaosBlizzard
2004-03-23, 20:08
One guy said wearing these would damage your eye? I highly doubt it. In order for these to strain your eyes it would have to block the pupil, and they dont. Just like the natural color of your eyes, it surounds the pupil. The no vision contacts might harm your eyes in the long run, esp if you can see a little threw them, because then your straining your eyes to see threw em.

ChaosBlizzard
2004-03-23, 20:11
You didnt read. I wanted the pupil area of the contacts filtered, I want them tinted in the pupil area to filter uv/blue light spectrum to 19%. This would greatly reduce eyestain, esp by the light/contast levels put out by your monitor, its known as computer syndrom... You can do a search about computer syndrom on the net, and I have it. From working on my pc for 6-7 yrs 10 hrs or so a day...

If i could find those somewhere local(MN, twin cities) for say $100 or less I'd buy them right away.

don't know if it would be worth it, but I'd do it!

It's also the perfect surprise for those Kakashi cosplayers whose fans think there's nothing special underneath the covered eye....

;)
Well if I bought those Sharingan contacts I would surely not cosplay Kakashi, Thats is just a waste of moneys :P What is the point having a sharingan contact for 100$ when noone can see it ? Sure, you could just not have the head-band over the Sharingan eye, but that would not be Kakashi! He allways have the head-band over his Sharingan eye.

check this out:

some guy on a cosplay forums customized his own contacts. i used paint shop to edit this

I could use these... someone tries to mess wit me I just fake some seals and then open my eyes...

Or alternately you could whisper some latin put one hand out and slowly raise it while holding a rosary or cross then open your eyes and scream since the above wouldnt really make any sense to anyone unless they watch naruto....

Of course you'd have to be wearing something that covers your eyes before doing this like sunglasses or a big hood, because I couldnt imagine this happening

"Can I go to the bathroom first, I need to put something on...."

"Uhhh wtf? I guess...hurry up..."

Good lord, they're expensive!!! But hey, if you're really down for cosplaying or just messing with someone, buy them. But shit, $200? Nah... I mean it should be half off for Kakashi's because he only has one to begin with anyways! LOL!

I'd rather do the easy Sharingan method that was explained in that "How to be a Narutard" Flash... maybe not.

If they offered them in prescription form, I'd wear them.

But yea, with those on you'd look like an idiot.

However, I have the following opinion about contacts:

People that wear contacts to fool people into thinking they have blue/green eyes on first acquaintance, are more of a loser to me. Even if you say first chance you get "Oh these are contacts", you already took advantage of having the eyes by getting the person to talk to you.

I think if you wear contacts that aren't the typical good colors (Like red, silver, purple lol or orange contacts) at least people know when they see you that you're wearing contacts, and you're not just trying to trick people into first impressions.

I think that if you're buying them for that amount of money, you'd be damn sure to wear it for more than just cosplay. Anyway, getting back to my point. I don't think its taking anime too far, I think its being different. Someone shouldn't be considered stupid for just wanting to separate themselves from the crowd. I don't know why some people always think that liking anime can only go to a certain extent. It only shows how ashamed we are for liking it. Well, except when you're behind closed doors, then you can be an anime freak.

There is a certain...limit to how much you can express your fandom in a socially acceptable manner.

T-shirts are okay.

Dressing up as your favorite character (assuming your favorite character doesn't wear normal clothing) is not socially accepted.

I don't consider Naruto headbands acceptable day-to-day wear, though apparently some people in my area think otherwise.

Red contact lenses with black dots = :nono:

I agree with VelvetNinja to an extent... i mean come on, you show up to a Con wearing $200 contacts most poeple are just gonna say how cool it is... IMO, the only time your really taking the anime too far is when you can't afford to buy them and you buy it anyway; as in, you buy the contacts with the cash that was supposed to pay your eletric bill... grant it though, if you waer them outside of cosplay, you will probably look like an idoit, so i wouldn't recomend that.. If you have the money and your willing to blow it on something your only gonna use like a couple of times a year, more power to ya...

personally, if i had money to blow and nothing else that i wanted to buy (games, consoles, software, hardware) then i might buy a pair of contacts... not shairgan though... i'd go for something else, like the glow in the dark eyes (something that would be good not only at con's, but also make a kick ass halloween costume)

Interesting, I see allot of people here saying crap, yes crap about "socially acceptable manner" in other words what’s accepted in society and what’s not lol, fuck society they don’t tell you what to do, you do what you want to do. Get real people, if that’s how you think you got some serious issues, people who are all about "society" are some of the most ignorant and unimaginative people there are.

I my self own 4 pairs of contact's and have always had them since J.R High school, Red out, White out, Wolf, and Zooming. However I did not get mine from the 9MM site, I got mine from my eye doctor and they are all prescription to match my glasses, so I can see perfectly with them. I for one love the way they all look and ware a different one each day depending on my mood, all day to wherever I go, during whatever I do. The looks you get are interesting, some times people come up to you and ask you about them, in fact I meet my ex-girlfriend due to it.

If your all about what society accepts and what society is and you "need" to be accepted by "society", you might want to take a look at your life and see if your really living it, I always go by what I want, when I want and how I want it. I don’t let things like "what’s acceptable in society" drag me down, one thing is for sure Halloween is definitely my favorite holiday because I love dressing up. I have never missed a Halloween and have always went all out in terms of a costume, last year I was The Crow, and since I live in Brooklyn New York :) I can go to Manhattan and walk in the village parade then hit the clubs afterwards and cosplay is another, while I haven’t done any I definitely see it happening in the future at some Anicon.

Remember, these kind of contacts are not medical contacts, they won't help your vision. Don't go ruining your eyesight because it won't help you get these contacts any quicker.

Wrong, you can purchase them prescribed for everyday use with the correct prescription, all four pair of my contacts match the power of my glasses. In fact all you need to do is check the 9MM site, they have a part where you can fill out all that stuff, all you need to do is check with your eye doctor and get all the information.

I think all he meant is that insurance won't cover contacts for any cosmetic purposes (even just changing your eye color) so you should not bank on that as a possibility to get them cheaper. I know thats not what he said, but the "because it won't help you get these contacts any quicker" comment doesn't make sense unless its taken in that context.

I know exactly what he/she meant, notice that I bolded a certain part from his/her statement, that is the only part I was commenting on, hence the only part I bolded. They will help your eyes, IF you get them prescribed, however you would have to be pretty stupid to go and try to ruin your eyesight... then again your even more stupid if you think you can get insurance to pay for them. :heh:

Depends on how long you wear them every day, I think. For instance I'm not supposed to wear my contacts for more than 12 hours at a time, and they have to soak for at least 4-6 hours before I can wear them again. I personally have 1 month disposables.

I also noticed that they are supposed to have Riddick lenses (according to the FAQ), but I don't see them anywhere....

Its as Spectacular says, it depends on how long you wear them everyday. It also depends on how careful you are, and how good you are at taking care of them. I have had my contacts last for 3 years. (That’s counting wearing them occasionally, if not everyday at least 3-4 times a week). Yes, they need to soak in the contact solution for 4-6 hours, in other words leave them soaking overnight ready to use in the morning.

I also noticed that they are supposed to have Riddick lenses (according to the FAQ), but I don't see them anywhere....

Indeed, that would also be my guess most likely it is a two-way mirror coating. It also says these lenses are worn over soft lenses, so I'm assuming these are hard lenses. None the less, the site clearly states if which lens has no vision. The mirrored lenses doesn’t state "No Vision" so yea you can see with them.

Byakugan lenses would have no sight. It wouldn’t be possible, the 9mm site has pure white lenses including the middle however it says "NO VISION" right under it. Most contacts cover the Iris, but not he pupil. even the sclera lenses (which are full eye contacts, meaning they also cover the white part) do not cover the pupil it.

A good example is,

http://9mmsfx.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/hellraiser.jpg

While it look's like its all black, really there is a clear circle in the middle where the pupil is or else the person would not be able to see, the pupil is pure black which matches with the color of the iris the lenses are (which is also black) causing it to give the effect of the whole contact being black.

Here is what Byakugan contacts would look like,

http://9mmsfx.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/blindeye.jpg

However, notice its pure white no clear circle on the pupil. Hence the person wearing these contacts wont be able to see. No vision.

The only exception I know to being able to see through contacts that cover the pupil are the mirrored contacts, and It's most likely because it is a two way mirror, like the ones the cops use in an interrogation room to watch what the person does.

Those contacts look larger than normal (it covers the whole opening). Wouldn't those severely damage your eyes if you wear them for long periods of time?

Yes, contacts come in many different sizes, if you are speaking of the SCLERA lenses (the ones that cover the white part of your eye). Those lenses are mainly for theatrical use, definitely not daily and the longest you can ware then is 4-6 hours occasionally. They can be custom made to fit some one’s eye, custom painted with whatever you want on it, any look, any word, any design. There are also special instructions for removing then and inserting them. They are not like normal contact lenses. They do come with risk's its better to learn everything you can about them before you purchase them, or you can purchase them and take them to your eye doctor then learn from him/her.

I was talking about actualy movie contacts and maybe they could find away around that...I agree more than likely it's not possible since they'll probably just use computers to hide the pupil. I just wouldn't be surprised that in the movies they're able to create limited vision where the the person can't technically see, but can see some very basic shapes up close. It's highly unlikely that they would, but if there is an industry that could find away to do it it would be the movie industries since they use contacts alot. Which is why I said "some semblence of sight" Even if that were the case how many people would purchase contacts for $600+?

Spectacular_Insanity
2007-06-07, 10:58
Yeah, byakugan lenses would be extremely hard to pull off indeed. I'm not even quite sure how two-way mirrors work, when I think about it.... I guess that I'll just have to look it up.

And to answer you question, tkdtiger, I don't think anyone would, unless they were really serious about going to a anime/cosplay convention, or say, worked in the movies, where I'm sure the producers would cover the cost. I mean, if I were really rich I might buy a pair (maybe the Kakashi Sharingan or the Itachi MS), but since I'm not, I'll skip it until I get a job.
