Another show I managed to bring myself to watch, luckily.

What is this? you ask curiously.

Well, it's basically a comedy show about a high school girl (Tenma) with a crush on Distinguished Guy, who _finally_ gets in the same class as him, only to hear he's going to transfer in a couple of days. Disheartened she decides to write him a letter (more like a novel) confessing her love, but forgets to sign it. Still, she gets a surprise the next day at school.

At the same time, we have Tough Guy who is in love with Tenma and begs his way into her class. Um. He has a goatee and a motorcycle and he beats people up a lot. So. This sets us up for a humorous love triangle.

Very funny episode, with a visit from Initial D during a bicycle ride to school. Cute girls.

So is the anime 12 min or 24 min-ish episodes? The manga (at least the few volumes I've read) are like really short vignette type things, sometimes a chapter is only 10 or so pages.

Neither, actually. 3 episodes a showing. Around... 7 minutes an episode.

Is it just me, or the drawing style really resembles Azumanga Daioh?

I got that vibe in some parts, and in others not at all...

Overall, I really like this series so far. Hopefully whoever subs it does a good job.

There's a chibi feel to the whole thing - the mini episodes per airing also helps in the resemblance, IMHO - and I was surprised by the amount of comedy the first episode had, especially with the bishoujo shots of the girls in the ED. Given its timeslot (18:00), it shouldn't have been, I suppose. :heh:

A good show that's high on my to-watch/to-save list of the new series.

Only in the chibi parts, I think.
I'm definitely going to follow this series closely. ^_^

The manga is pretty good so I'll give this series a try.

I'm actually hoping to hear the famous (or maybe infamous) "Oneesan Power!" line or however it goes. ^^

I finally got a chance to watch the raw of this and it's great!! :D I love this anime! hehe. It's like a little bit of TnK, Asumanga Diaoh, Fruits Basket and a bunch of other love comedies. I'm really gonna like this one. Can't wait for it to be subbed. :)

i've been looking forward to the anime version for a while now, and i just watched the raw. i thought the manga was funnier, somehow.. i guess the voices and animation took away from the imagination, haha.

Omg this show is so hilarious, I cannot stop laughing. Specially when Tenma were writing love letter, that's the longest love letter I ever seen. :heh: And then the biking part where Tenma chasing Karasuma and Harima chasing Tenma. There were an Initial D moment too. XD

Gosh this is the kind of show I really love. Definitely one of my favorite this season. ^^

Hwah..! this show really fit the translation notes intro of dashfansub! GURU GURU..!!!

Its like riding those spinning (around) thing at the fun fair(?).

all those confessions trial & error and the bicycle rides reminds me of KareKano! "Harima-kuuun...!" (tho there are no bicycle part, and KareKano is like a rollercoaster experience.. up and own.. up again and so on).

Great first episode. i never laugh this hard since the first episode of Jubei-Chan 2!

BTW, anyone notice the blonde girl (Eri it says?) resembles Asuka? She even make the same face when saying the word "Chance..!"
and gotta LOVE that Initial D parody..!

Lol, your're right maybe he's a Superman / Clark Kent type thingy, at first glance he looks just like a boring normal school guy, but sometimes he can be so cool and mysterious, I kinda understand why Tenma like him alot. I'm so rooting for her getting Karasuma's heart. ^^

As a fan of the manga I was looking forward to this. I thought the first episode was well done, although I'm not too big on choice of seiyuu for Tenma and Harima. It's much easier to tell some of the characters apart now that everything is in color and they have voices. I lose track of who's who all the time in the manga.

One word (more like abbrevation): LOL!. The beginning of the episode was like an introduction to Japanese. I was taking it pretty seriously until I saw "all the Japanese I know I learned from anime and manga. (I'm serious. It's true.)." Then I cracked up. Nice touch. Initial D spoof = +10000 points. I play so much Initial D at university arcade, it would've been so funny if they drifted on their bikes :heh: (can bikes drift? heh heh). This anime is an absolute riot. I must've cracked up more than I can count. Plus the animation and atmosphere is cute. I love it too, it's a priority series for me, my comedy fix for the season.

I liked the gags in this anime, though I have a bad feeling that I know the plot already and it's gonna repeat forever and ever (Karasuma will stay oblivious to Tsukamoto who will stay oblivious to... uh... MacKenzie). Hopefully that won't happen and the gags will stay good. Main character's hair thingies don't work too well for me... seems like they stole it from Mahouromatic anyways.

Those episode notes sure were important, ne? Sheesh, never seen so many puns in an anime before.

The main character is actually Harima.

The mangaka did a rework on the manga after volume 1 and Harima became the main character. That's when it got a whole lot better.

When you said funny, I though maybe a chuckle here and there, but this definitely had me laughing out loud! I haven't had this much fun watching a new anime in a while. Quite probably my fave show of the new season. And the Initial D parody! Brava! :D

Also, the end theme is one of th cutest things I've heard all year. Yay for that.

I agree. I loved the information that was presented in the beginning (although I already knew it all). It helps people who aren't familiar with the language A) understand some of the subtle humor, B) eliminates confusion while not spoiling the episode, and C) teaches them something new! I hope the group continues to do this episode, and I hope more groups will pick this good habit up! :D

Keep an eye out for both "Harry MacKenzie" and the name right above it - "Tougou Masakazu." They will appear later in the series - whom their character designs (and somewhat personalities as well) are a spoof in itself of famous characters that all Japanese knows from heart.

It's also an added plus for those who have read the manga. For example on the school class list, you see names of people who will appear later in the series, such as "Ichijou Karen," "Asou Hiroyoshi," "Imai Kyousuke," etc. etc...

Harima became the main character??
offhand the story of Tenma and Kurasuma was pretty much tossed out after the first volume or so, but after vol 1 there's chunks where harima's barely present or he serves as mostly background

after vol 1 it starts to become more ensemble and the other girls start to have bigger parts though
i know some people who've never read the manga and have wondered if Eri, Mikoto, and Akira get larger roles (since epi1 didn't show much)
If it follows the manga then yes (i dun think this is a spoiler, it just does; everyone starts getting bigger roles and Tenma's reduces slightly)

i'd say that tenma has been demoted from the main character to a mascot (but that's ok because this is more of a gag manga than a love comedy).

i wasn't expecting too much after listening to the minialbums, but it looks like the animation staff is being extremely faithful to the manga. hopefully they'll do as well for the rest of the episodes.

ED song: "オンナのコ♥オトコのコ" - "onna no ko ♥ otoko no ko"
"Girls love boys", I suppose.
Artist: Ogura Yuuko ( 小倉優子 ) - "Yuuko-rin"

OP song: "スクランブル" - "SCRAMbLE"
(sukuranburu - kind of neat, since "School Rumble" in katakana is "スクールランブル" - "suku-ruranburu", and only two characters off. It actually threw me in a loop back when I saw the announcement in Shounen Magazine, and I didn't realize that it was actually "scramble" until I saw the album release announcement on Horie Yui's site)
Artist: Horie Yui ( 堀江由衣 ) - "Hocchan", with UNSCANDAL

I've been thinking about this and strangely enough the way Harima changes in responce to falling in love with Tenma. It sounds a lot like what happened with Genzo and Megu from TnK. The idea may have been used already, but it's still friggin funny. Especially the way they're doing this. It's like a little bit of Asumanga Diaoh, some TnK, some Fruits Basket, and serveral other great comedy animes all tied into one. :D

Does anyone else love how the faces keep switching their shape from dark-evil to normal to chibi to funny to exagerated, then rinse and repeat? :D Especially Harima. He's just an absolute riot.

Since the release of Midori no Hibi, i've never laugh this hard. Though Sensei no Ojikan does provide a little laughter...

Man... I kinda lost interest in this show after watching the trailer and the 1st impression isn't that good either (in my point of view.)

But somehow i download it and watch the whole GOD damn thing... shit... my stomach still hurts even after the show... never aspect it to be so out of this world... not to mention Takumi's car... lose to a bicycle O_O and do they really need to go through all those tracks just to get to the school? (example: Jungles? Shrine's Stair Climbing)

Well i do agree that the art is a little similar to Azumanga Daioh and Sensei no Ojikan... but in sense of artwork i think AD and SnO is better compare to School Rumble. I thing the only fallback of this anime is it's artwork and musics.

Hmm... lian lau... be tahan... really looking for the next episodes...

I would also like to point out that I have now watched this episode THREE times over! :twitch: I think that breaks my record. I hardly ever watch an episode more than once in a month. The only other series I can think of that I've done that is Konjiki no Gash Bell. :D

Now that you mention it, Harima reminds me a hell lot of that guy with the afro in Chromartie High (forgot his name). Seriously, they both wear sunglasses and has a mustache. Even acts a bit similar too. Which reminds me, gotta get new episodes of Chromatie High ASAP :heh: .

I don't know man. I'm just a little bit worried about the reliability of the translations after seeing the intro splash screens saying "All the japanese I know, I learned from anime and manga...". Like I said in my last post, after I saw that, I didn't take the translations as seriously as before. But I'll take your word for it that translation is good...maybe kj1980 can back this up.

This show would have been totally mediocre had Harima not been in it. You know, the typical guy-doesn't-notice-girl-but-girl-is-in-love plot... I think Harima totally makes the show, plus, you don't see that many bizarre love triangles anymore in anime.

I enjoyed the part with the big dude confessing his love, and the Initial D moment totally caught me off guard. The monitor was covered in Dr. Pepper... Plus it was all in my nose ;_;

Like I said in my last post, after I saw that, I didn't take the translations as seriously as before. But I'll take your word for it that translation is good...maybe kj1980 can back this up.

Unfortunately, I cannot back this up because...

A. I live in Japan.
B. Hence, I can watch this as it airs on Wednesdays at 6:00PM.
C. I am Japanese so I don't need to "download" to "fansubs" to understand what's being said
D. I've never seen a "fansub" in my life - nor will I ever care to do so since I do not need to rely on them to understand what's going on.

This first episode was great. I was laughing hard. I agree that this would be a mediocre anime if Harima was not present, but these days you need to tweak a cliche to make it fresh again.

I look forward to the next episodes, and as far as I can tell, Dash Fansubs did a pretty damn good job.

I never really noticed that. Whenever I see pre-episode text like that, I pause and read the whole thing. I usually have to do that with editor's notes during the episode as well.

Agreed. That extra effort goes a long way. Even if the timing's too short; that's why we have pause buttons (Well, I hope most of us do...)

If they make the explanitory screens longer, then the filesize will be unnecessarily large. As long as its long enough for my brain to recognize it to my finger hitting 'pause', its long enough. :)

Meh. It had its moments, but I wasn't that impressed with the first episode. The art style kept changing for one thing; at one point, it reminded me of My Dear Marie and Detective Conan, and at many others it reminded me of Azumanga Daioh (so much, in fact, that I was actually expecting someone to yell out "Chiyo-chan!"). Neither is necessarily a bad thing, but I like my anime to have a consistent style.

I was also put off my the almost amateurish manner in which the subtitled were presented... The translator notes at the beginning really shook my faith in the accuracy of the translations. And I really didn't appreciate that stupid kanji lesson, either. It just wasn't necessary considering that the actual symbol made nary an appearance! The gag could've been explained succinctly with a tag line or two.

However, I am looking forward to the next episode. While I wasn't impressed by the first, it was far superior to the mindnumbing garbage that was Mai HiME ep.1... That alone is worth a second look.

I'd never think of seeing a guy with a hairband, though it did look cool, and kept his hair in order.

Ima saying, at the time I wrote this I have 3 'lists'.

3. Get it but might never watch it.

Have you ever been told a joke which you didn't get?

And then somebody had to explain to you why it was funny after they told you the joke?

Did you laugh very hard after you got the explanation?

Jokes are, inherently, not funny if you don't "get" it yourself. Thus, providing the background information so people can "figure it out" themselves is, I feel, the "best" approach.

If you watch the episode, the notes were laid out in such a way that the necessary background information was provided before the episode, and when the joke finally came up there was a very short note placed with it in order to explain it to people who didn't put the two together.

Lord Raiden
2004-10-09, 08:36
Well, I thought the suki jokes were funny regardless if it was explained or not. The explaination though I think helped make it funnier by providing a background by which to reference. It's like being told a John Candy joke and not knowing any of the background behind the joke. It's like an old joke I heard one time where the punchline was about a "camel going through the eye of a needle". At the time it wasn't funny and I didn't understand the joke. Then once it was explained to me and I heard it again, THEN it was funny. Same thing here. Some people needed the background lesson, some didn't. SO it was useful to at least some degree. Although I really don't think this translator "learned all of his japanese from anime and manga" to be honest. It's too good and fluent a translation for that to be true. ;) It it were true, that would be one seriously mucked up translation.

Which begs the question: why did he say it then? Was that a joke upon himself? Or did really muster (if not master) the Japanese language from anime and manga? Anyways, if the translation is good, then maybe I shouldn't complain and just ignore that little "joke" of his.

The little intro thing was interesting.... I think half of it wasn't even neccessary.... Since he did take his time to add comments DURING the anime too, which were mostly "I hope you paid attention at the beginning" which could have been substituted with the comments FROM the beginning. Otherwise, the anime was cute, but the whole love triangle concept is overused, so I doubt I will be following it... I might get episode 2 just in case (Whenever it's released).

the thing is school rumble can be really confusing if you start off at the middle because everything is so chaotic. yakumo was actually helping harima finish his manga manuscript (when they should have been studying for exams) in time for a contest.

school rumble ♭ (thats supposed to look like a b) is serialized in magazine special which is monthly. yakumo was supposed to be the main character of that but lately it's been focusing on some of the daily events of other minor/very very minor school rumble characters. most of the time what happens in school rumble ♭ corresponds to something else happening in the main manga.

the yakumo cd refers to a school rumble ♭ chapter in volume 4 involving what harima ended up doing with his animals.

edit: that character isnt displaying properly but it should like a stylish b

Where did you get your information from roan? School Rumble is serialized weekly(9-10 pages) and Tenma was suppose to be the main character. After volume 1, Harima became the main character. There are a couple of love triangles(?) in the manga and Harima is in 3 of them.

The "b" series being spoken of is a sideplot story arc that revolves around Tenma Yakumo, whereas the main story arc mostly focuses on Harima Kenji (it starts with a focus on Tenma Tsukamoto, but shifts over pretty early on). Both arcs are published in the same tankouban, with the "b" stories in the back.

The scanlation of School Rumble is not translated quite well.
Many jokes are lost. I am not surprised that many readers miss the plot.
On the other hand, It is a pleasant surprise that '-' fansub group manages to bring the storyline almost perfectly. I begin to feel that this is a kind of "Azumanga Daioh" ver 2.0 with added romances and actions (wait for the sport festival episode). I love Tenma!

I got a quick question, is the physical exam in Japan really important or something? I don't really get the importance of the physical exam, and it seems like people make a big deal out of it. I've seen it in HaniHani and School Rumble.

For guys, no.

For girls, probably. But then, I'm not a girl, so I wouldn't know.

Probably has to do with "eek! I gained weight since the last check-up!" or "sniff sniff, my breast size hasn't increased..."

Hmm, Just got the Tenma CD, I wonder how many more of these are there. Nice songs by the way.

School Rumble character CDs:

Vol. 1 - Tsukamoto Tenma (released July 22)
Vol. 2 - Tsukamoto Yakumo (released August 25)
Vol. 3 - Suou Mikoto (released September 23)
Vol. 4 - Sawachika Eri (will be released October 27)

Curious how long this show will run. They are introducing characters and scenes up till volume 6 for the manga in the OP/ED clip [the Adventures of Fisherman Kenji and the Mexican Wrestling girl].

Me likes Yakumo a lot :D, Harima/Eri comes next followed by the unrepentent playboy rogue Imadori. I'll just keep this guy away from every girl I know since his itchy hands and D power make him a plague to every femme on planet Earth :heh:

The problem with that scene is that the credits are over top him the entire time. There aren't any clean frames to use for making the avatar.

Ooji on the other hand, has a nice clean frame during his entire spin.
Actually, I'm pretty good about cleaning up images like that. If someone could get me all of the images from that scene (preferably from the raw so I don't have to deal with the subs too) I could go in and clean up the entire image on each frame and give it back to you guys to animate. The nice thing about anime vs real photos is the colors in anime are more uniform over larger areas, so they tend to be much easier to clean up. :D

I'd grab the images myself, but I don't have a good way to rip them properly without spending the next 9 hours capturing all the frames. T_T So, I'd need someone else to capture all the frames. After that I could probubly crank out the edited frames in a day or so at the most and get them back to you guys to work with. PM me if anyone can provide those images. I'll give you an email address where you can send them.

(Whoops, sorry about the bad post, NoSanninWa. Must get a refresher on the rules again.. my mistake there.)

But anyways, School Rumble is amazing!

I think that it's one of my favourite series now.

Gotta love the OP and ED songs as well.

So can someone clarify for me, Harima is supposed to be the main character? (He's featured in the ED) Tenma?

Personally, I think Tenma is hilarious... the whole plunger thing was interesting. Don't think I've ever seen anything like that before. :heh:

Ok I didn't bother to read the post above page 2 but why was Yakumo calling Tenma nee-san when they are not related or are they? I don't see them living in the same house and I don't Tenma is that much older than Yakumo. Heck Yakumo is taller than Tenma...

Edit: Nvm, I just saw episode 2...

The focus seems to switch to Harima after the first volume. But for a short a while it switches to Tenma's friends after...

Harima drops out of school.

Now the focus seems to be on the whole groupr, with a few of the boys the only ones not having an appearence for a short while.

But Yakumo is the main character in the 'B' stories at the end of each volume.

this show is hilarious! harima cracks me up everytime he appears in a scene and,
although rather simple, the ending theme is damn addictive. i can't wait to see more episodes (especially after i read that the manga starts to concentrate more on harima after the first volume).

I think one of the main thing that make this anime funny is that both Harima and Tenma are baka (at the same level).......even though they are two completely different persons, but yet how they think so much alike really cracks me up lol......it's almost like those two are sharing the use of the same brain (mind) haha.

If your reading the manga, you'll see much more of a triangle.

I'm reading the latest chapters published in japan, and looks like Harima's into Yakumo too

Oh, he does look like, but actually he isn't.
However, not only you but Tenma, Hanai(Class Rep.) and many other characters are misunderstanding their relationship. Sometimes I can't help feeling a bit sorry for Harima.

Anyway, I can hardly wait for......the sports festival episodes on TV, in which every characters are so cool!

Ok, I cleaned up a test frame, and I don't know if it's the fault of the encoding, or if I'm just out of practice, but this was a lot harder than I thought and didn't come out as cleanly as they normally do. Especially those blasted sunglasses of his. There were so many color changes that it made parts of the edit a royal *** and consequently they ended up looking choppy. :( Of course once the image is shrunk to 100x100 that fact will become invisible. :)

Of course if I was to do that spin scene of Kenji's that's going to take a bloody lot of work. A lot. Especially since I just saw what the background looks like. Editing the charecter should be easy. That background however is going to be a royal b**ch. But if someone really wanted to see Kenji spin around I can attempt to do it. But after seeing the amount of work involved, it's starting to sound less and less interesting. :( Drat, and I would have loved to have had him in a series of clean frames just spinning around. ;)

With both the manga and animation, I've come to the conclusion that Harima was created to be the evolutionary pinacle for the anime loser male. Look at it this way, he's tough, good in a fight, has good hand eye coordination, is Very polite to women [with the exception of Eri >_<] and is filled with "Animal Magnetism" :heh: But as most here have figured out he's also lacking in common sense, braincells, luck with the opposite sex and in possession of a glass heart.

Open game to put this poor bloke through a continuous succession of romantic disasters. :twitch: Inevitably, Harima has taken the lead in most of the stories thus far. Most of the other characters haven't really changed since their introduction- so those to look out for are Hanai, Yakumo and Eri for the dramatic moments.

Anyway, I hope they are planning to animate up to book7- the school sports bash was really good for giving the title of School Rumble it's meaning :D

Favourite one is when the school nurse realises that she has met Harima before, and everyone walks in on them >_<

But the manga is pretty messed up. My take is [if the above ref to J.Depp is correct], this series is basically a male fantasy of his clone having a terminally bad time of his life with a crew of beautiful women- something the vast majority of angry and green men would wish on the real thing :frustrated:

Just realised something, has anyone noticed that there is a severe shortage of parents appearing in the manga? Save for Eri's dad [who appeared faceless btw], everyone is either living alone or working.

From the current manga publishing, I'd say 26 episodes. 13 is not enough for me, since we don't know what really happens to the characters (up till manga vol 6). And we definitely need to know who the heck Harry McKenzie is. :heh:

Isn't that the case for 99% of the anime/manga/games? XD

You can't have hawt loli incest sister relationships under parents' watchful eyes. :nono:

hahaha..

Thats rite.. and we got sooo many children living alone - no parents appear but they DO go to school properly! :twitch:

Its easier to pull out wacky.not.quite.ideal themes if the char live alone, thats the catch in anime / manga.

Perhaps / it is the escapist dream of many teenage to live their lives freely.. away from nagging and boring parents. well, I do.. once, until I run out of allowance XD

I just watched episode 3. It was pretty hilarious :D It even contained a Kenshin reference (shin-gan = heart's eye). :heh: Oh yeah and there was a great use of the audio in this episode. Tenma was absolutely hilarious in the second part where

she got the idea to send Kursama-kun her love letter attached to an arrow shot in his direction. She totally went all-out with the old samurai manner of speech. I was cracking up so much! Especially at the end where she says "Kakugoshinasai!" ROFLMAOFHRSHIT!!!!

Oh yeah, and I forgot some other cool things about the episode which IMO dont' qualify as spoilers

1) We see some matrix action in this episode. :heh:

2) Nice insert of the music video for the opening song in this episode. I was like "Woah! Real TV inside an anime!"

3) Tenma's hair twitching thing is so darn cute! :D Especially in part 2 near the beginning. I think someone can make a really good animated avatar out of that.

Incredibly enough, I get the impression that the mangaka went through the extra trouble of making sure all the characters have something they can excel in [as opposed to 99% of the fillerific anime characters] as well as something they are terminally bad at :heh: Say for example, Hanai is an intellectual martial artist- but can't play music to save his life. So having Tenma appear as deadly competent with a bow was a major suprise :D

It's even more outstanding when there is a conflict between the characters. I eagerly await the Harima vs Hanai bash in their misguided and fully misunderstood love battle :twitch: These 2 are going to kill one another if not careful :p

Thing is, the manga suddenly became rather Harima-centric after his flashback chapter...

Okay, I have a question here...

Are there any difference in the video quality between the RAW and the Subbed version of School rumble?

Because... this is what I see for both of the episodes for School Rumble released so far, subbed by [-]
http://img97.exs.cx/img97/6489/bscap460.jpg

But Secca posted his/her's that looks brighter than mine

http://img47.exs.cx/img47/5065/School1.jpg

Exact same shot, but with different hue on the skin and overall brightness (and oh gawd! I see post-encoding pixels on the red skirt >.>). So, what's the problem with it?

2004-10-20, 05:51
Every raw is different, so the colours and brightness will depend on the capper's signal and settings. The raw Secca took screencaps from just happened to be horribly oversaturated and washed out.

After a show airs, there are well over a dozen raws for most popular shows floating around on Japanese P2P networks. Most fansub groups will download a few of the larger ones and choose between them. They may also elect to do some colour-correction and filtering on the final encode.

Thus, the colours of every encode may be different.

I'm J/k. ^^ That screenshot was taken from episode 1 raw if you are curious. That time (-) fansub version hasn't been released yet, so i have no clue. Maybe they just use different raw source. who knows. ^^

2) Nice insert of the music video for the opening song in this episode. I was like "Woah! Real TV inside an anime!"

That scene is the big screen projector in front of the South Exit in Shinjuku Station. That clock tower behind Harima and the skywalk is very distinctive of that area. The big screen projector usually shows Old Navy commercials and J-POP hit PVs (music videos).

The music video for the OP song is indeed, moe. Horie Yui with UNSCRAMBLE. If you want to get your own copy of it, the single CD that goes on sale on 10.26 includes a DVD with that PV in it.

well, you can also adjust the brightness and color settings of the screenshots easily... I like to adjust some screenshots of some dark scenes a bit brighter myself... also people use different capture settings and encoding settings may also end up with different video qualities.

And Harima is so hilarious in the ending. :heh: Poor guy, will Tenma ever recognize his shades? ^^
Also It's funny how Karasuma in Tenma's drawing looks way much cooler than the real person... actually the real Karasuma looks flat and 2D compared to that drawing. XD

Star wars parody (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=345775&postcount=224)
Maburaho parody (think rin-chan) (http://img76.exs.cx/img76/6986/School34.jpg)
Asumanga Daioh reference (think chiyo-chan) (http://img87.exs.cx/img87/8156/School23.jpg)

Actually, when Tenma had the bandages over her head .. it reminded me of Shishio from Rurouni Kenshin.

And the one where she is holding the bow and arrow: Yes, it looked like Kikyo .. but isn't that a common miko outfit anyway? Because in X TV, one of the characters who was a miko also wore the same thing.

That's entirely his problem with girls. :heh: Really, we all probably want to be a bad@$$ like him but minus the glass heart and suck timing. He should just say it out to the girl and suffer the consequences. Oh wait a minute, he did do this but the end result is simply too tragically funny. In fact, he's still suffering from it :twitch:

For the references, oddly enough the segment with Full Postal Tenma was called Broken Arrow in the manga. Jin Kobayashi really does find movie and series titles to fit whatever he intends for the characters. Haven't seen ep3 yet, but there should be a Captain Hook ref. there as well.
