Finally, phase 1 was aired as scheduled. I was worrying it might be cancelled due to a direct hit of typhoon #22, the strongest one in a decade. TV channels were on the situation reports. My doors and windows were humming a rumbling song. My water heater broke since yesterday and the repairman arrived at the peek of the atmospheric pressure just to surrender to the wind. I will not have hot water for another day.
The intermission animation features Kira, Lacus, and Pink-chan. The ED animation is the same style as SEED's ED1 whilst Kira and Lacus appear to wear the same clothes from the ED of SEED SE II.
The war began and see what Athrun was forced to pilot for lives, a Zaku.
Unless the RAWs are properly cropped otherwise you guys would see typhoon's report along the show.

:topicoff: Tell me about it, and with this weekend being a three-day weekend too. So much for going somewhere as the trains and planes aren't able to leave. On the plus side, yup, no cancellation of the show. :)
I'm going to have to go back to the recording, but I think TBS is airing an episode on the 15th at 5PM?

That was Kira? I thought it was Shin! :heh: The look on Lacus's face in the OP, however, when she was with Kira was worth a laugh, IMHO. A spoiler, just in case.
Something of a "what the &*$ have you done now" expression mixed in with a healthy helping of "I'm really PO'ed at you", I thought.
Overall, a decent episode. Nothing really spectacularly different than what others had said earlier. They drove home the point that the events in "Destiny" follows after "Gundam SEED", I thought, with the use of poses and shots that came from the first series, but replaced them with the new characters and mecha. Fans of the first series will like this one, but so far, I haven't seen anything that will get the fencesitters off.
Fights weren't too shabby, but so far, it's all one-sided. The new GUNDAM mecha are kicking everyone else's butts (with one exception), but the next episode should be better. Good transformation/merge scene for Impulse, however, but it still seems a bit drawn-out (pun unintended) to me.
I'm now waiting for the posts about the significance of the characters' poses and positions in the ED to start appearing again. :)
Woot~Seed Destiny had finally been aired! I'm so happy  Looks like the only thing I can do now is.....wait for the raw and fansub to be out....
This....is....weird.....what's Athrun and Lacus doing together in the opening!!?? :heh: Oh well.......I'm still hoping that neither Kira nor Shinn will die in the series *cross fingers*

beelzebub1, thanks for the link.
This first OP sequence is going to start the usual flood of speculations. I like it quite a bit though, and if the teasers are going to reflect the backstories, then I'm eagerly anticipating how the characters are going to turn out as the season goes on.

somethings about the OP that seems funny for me it seems that it becomes a Athrun harem during the "Lacus hiding behind Athrun" part... really funny... :heh: and yup Lacus' expression looks funny with the Lacus - Kira- Freedom scene... The Shin vs. Kira scene looks quite cool ;)
Is the guy in the intermission confirmed t be Kira or Shin? Why it seems Kira and Lacus are still main characters :eyespin:

Freedom got the revamp while justice didn't? O well but Lacus doesn't look at all to happy with kira. So let the speculations fly!

Well....can't blame Kira for it right? Besides, I don't think Lacus is unhappy with him....Kira's still a teenager afterall....and ever since the previous battle, his mindset had already greatly changed. Archangel seems to be back in action too!
Personally speaking I wish they'd have left the Archangel alone because I thought it was generally resolved... actually, I thought most of the Archangel characters' feelings towards the war and life and all was pretty resolved/decided and I dunno why they had to drag them all back... :( Especially Murrue, for crying out loud, leave her alone!
The worrying thing is if they bring her back... that means they can kill her in front of us ;_;

As the name implied, that is ZGMF-1001/K Slash Zaku Phantom.
The Phantom is the commander model right? So that would suggest he's got command of his own unit I suppose. The blonde bishonen guy has a commander model too.
Dearka not getting commander would make sense since #1)He's more experienced with a long-range weapon mech and #2) He went AWOL and even fought against Zaft so he's not likely to get promoted for that :D
Say.....did anyone notice anything from the opening? The OS on Shinn's corefigher....its....Generation Unsubdued Nuclear Drive Assault Module....that means Impulse Gundam is nuclear-powered!
Here are the OP and ED screenshots for those of you who just can't wait for the RAW to finish downloading.
http://s01.imagehost.org/0293/gsd_op_jpg.t.jpg (http://s01.imagehost.org/view.php?image=/0293/gsd_op.jpg)

And a question about the ED. When they scroll to Shinn... in the BG, is that Lacus? o.O
Say.....did anyone notice anything from the opening? The OS on Shinn's corefigher....its....Generation Unsubdued Nuclear Drive Assault Module....that means Impulse Gundam is nuclear-powered!
No it isn't. Watch closely when it boots up again and you see that the text is replaced by new text in read. It's simply based on the old OS used by the nuclear powered behemoths.
Thanks for that! My download's around 88%....so they did put Kira and Lacus together! Yeah! Btw, thats Lunamaria.....not Lacus....
So Impulse is not nuclear-powered? Yeah! That means we'll get to see the Gundams power down! That makes the show more interesting....
I'm only up to the first 20+ epis of Gundam SEED, but Destiny does look a lot better. First of all, with reference to the screencaps of the intro provided by OMchan, not everyone is riding a Gundam. And Destiny does hold a subtle 'retro' feel to it, something i find rather lacking in SEED. ('Retro' essentially means the slight feel of the older Gundam series, i used 'retro' only because of a lack of a better word :) )
Let me try and list all the scenes in the OP involving people so we can make more silly predictions about relationsihps and so on (btw, can we make a new SEED DESTINY thread?)
1. Kira, Athrun (ooh, Athrun has a nice butt! :D), somebody-in-the-background (I think it's Shinn) and Torii on Kira's shoulder with a war torn background
2. Neo Roanoke and Rey Za Barrel looking at each other and floating, with Gilbert Durandal looking sad/angry in the background.
3. Miriallia being a war journalist with a hideous green headband.
4. Cagalli looking up with Gundams in the background (including a pink one, which one is that, DON'T ASK ME)
5. Lacus doing her STUPID DANCE. Ugh. And that fscking dress.
6. Picture of the inside of a ship. EDIT: It's the Minerva. I think I see Lunamaria in the background. There's Cagalli, Athrun and Taria too.
7. Cropped closeups of Lunamaria and Rey saluting each other, both looking determined (but Lunamaria a bit more cheerful)
8. Shinn jumping into his MS and similarly saluting
9. EA guy with the green hair looking stupid. With some gundam in the background.
10. Stellar looking inspired with a gundam in the background.
11. Aule doing his shooting pose with a gundam in the background.
12. Lunamaria looking... uh... "yay"ish with a gundam in the background.
13. Rey looking sexy and angsty and bishie-like (is that a guy or a girl again?) with a gundam in the background.
14. YZAK!!!!!!! With a white suit and a gundam in the background.
15. Dearka!!! With a gundam in the background.
16. ATHRUN!!!!!! (whyyyyy, what happened to peace?!!!) Looking angry-angsty with a... what is that in the background?
17. Taria leaning forward on the ship looking concerned
18. Vieno and Yolan floating around, Vieno reading a book
19. Meyrin leaning forward to say something in her seat (on the bridge.. CIC?)
20. Shin (??!) and Stellar nekkid being er, nice to each other (gundam in the back enjoying the scene) - not 100% sure, my raw ALWAYS *ALWAYS* lags so that 99% of the time it misses this scene -_-
21. Lacus hiding behind Athrun (who is facing her) while her hands are on his chest, Lunamaria on the left holding a gun and pointing it towards the viewer, Cagalli looking angry and pointing a gun facing the left (not towards anyone) - stupid Utena outfit...
22. Murrue looking sweet and Mr. I-Got-One-Up-From-Fraga Andrew Bartfeld in the background, with Murrue's pendant dividing the scene and the ARchangel in the background (please please please I hope they're not going to battle again, they're NOT in uniform!)
23. Kira looking down at Lacus concernedly and Lacus looking at Kira with that weird "I'm not pleased with you" look
24. Shinn and Kira fighting each other looking agnry
25. Final scene: Lunamaria, Athrun, Shinn and Rey all smiling (except Rey. Idiot.)
Now to actually watch the rest of the ep.

I wouldn't mind honestly :naughty:
Er...the opening....Its Athrun and Lacus....not Shinn and Lacus! And I only saw Lacus 3 times in the opening and once in the ending! The other girls you guys saw in the ending is Lunamaria and her sis....damn...forgot her name again....
Just watched the ep...all I can say is......I can't wait for the next episode!!!

The pink Gundam is Cagalli's Rouge Strike.
The darkened bridge is the bridge of the Minerva. Yay for darkened bridges, definitely more serious looking. No boucing Haros at least.

Did a quck search to see if there's a separate "Destiny" thread yet, and none appeared. Better than making the existing "Protagonist" thread even longer. :)

The artists in the first series liked to play with people's heads, it seems, so who knows? They're probably back to doing it all over again. From the original series, Kira would have to do something pretty drastic and downright stupid since then to get Lacus away.
An army of Lacus clones? Now that's a scary thought.
Very Hong Kong action flick-like gunplay during the EA hijacking. Stella was really scary looking with her knife and gun.
They brought in Rouge IWSP in the OP also. Does that mean they're going to show the MSV mecha in here, I wonder?

Just did it. The thread (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=333064#post333064) is here.
That's just not the Strike Rouge - that's the Strike Rogue IWSP. Integrated Weapons Striker Pack.
Those are not Lacus! They're Lunamaria and her sis!

I think the mods may like to extract today's posts here then make up a new Phase 1 discussion thread.
Made the changes. Sorry about the Shin/Athrun thing, that was pure lack of attention on my part. Anyway, watched the ep... I am most interested in what Cagalli's saying... I wish they wouldn't portray her as so dependant on Athrun. :z
Also... stupid boob thing with Shinn and Stellar.... and we didn't hear much of Shinn either... blah blah...
Okay, now time for the Silly-Relationships-Guessing game from the OP.
1. Kira x Athrun x Shinn <3! You know, Brothers in Angst...
2. Notice... they are all guys as well. :o Roanoke and Barrel (sorry, I don't know the official romanizing and I'm too lazy to check it up) looking at each other so... okay, not lovingly, but still... IT'S THE HAIR COLOUR! AAHH! They are the Fraga and Creuset of Destiny! The evil person this time is Roanoke, and Barrel is l33t like Fraga but has the exact opposite personality. And.... Roanoke is..... the.... the..... uh.... dammit, he's not Murrue or anything. Who cares! They can all <3 each other!!
3. Maybe Miriallia didn't like Dearka in the end. :\
4. At least here Cagalli is more independant.
5. Haro still loves you, Lacus.
6. Cagalli and Athrun may be more slanted towards Zaft this time. They somehow end up on the Minerva, which acts as a location for Athrun to hit on Lunamaria :p
7. Rey x Lunamaria? I'm thinking of a more "comrade" sort of relationship. Unfortunately the Athrun x Cagalli relationship that I always liked SEEMS - I'm making big assumptions here - to be turning into a more romantic dependant one, I hope Rey and Lunamaria can be good comrades and not rivals but also not touchy-feely or dpeendant with each other. and yet be good friends.
8 (with 7). Linking all three of them with the salute may be grouping them, with the relationship of comradeship. That's nice. Putting Shinn separately may support Rey x Lunamaria and leave him as the person open up to go with someone else. Perhaps? Or it's showing Rey x Lunamaria as the obvious "pairing" while Shinn is more of the... "special" one...? I'm inclined to think he's more separate, looking at #20
9/10/11. This is obvious that you group 3 of them together... Relationshipwise I don't think there's much. Doesn't seem to be as close as the ZAFT Trio (Rey, Lunamaria, Shinn). I suppose Sting and Aule are more close to each other as I think we can throw Stellar and Shinn together better as the "odd ones out".
12~16. How do we take this? This is really pointless to argue over so I thin kwe can just lump them together.... if you want, I'd put it as 12 / 13 (again, Lunamaria x Rey), 14 / 15 (You know it has to be Yzak/Dearka. What else?!) and 16 on its own
17. nothing much really
18. Er.... good friends? But what happened to the other dude in that trio? (I forgot his name)
19. This is the only place Meyrin appears. I suppose she doesn't really "go" with anyone else. That's fine.
20. If they put THIS in, then *DEFINITELY* there must be Shinn/Stellar somewhere. DEFINITELY.
21. Yay! Controversial scene. Okay, so we have Lacus hiding behind Athrun... As if Athrun was her boyfriend. Will she bring up the "we used to be engaged" thing? Or is she having some sort of problem that Athrun becomes the person she relies and confides on? What happened to Kira? Or more importantly, her usual calmness? Or is this something else entirely?
And with Lunamaria and Cagalli both holding guns there I'm inclined to think they may become rivals later. Over what? Of course it may not be rivals... Still, I'm glad to see Cagalli is not having a silly nekkid mushy scene with Athrun the way Kira and Lacus had all the time in SEED. I don't want their relationship to go that way.
They're not pointing their guns at anyone in particular, of course, so it might just be General Angst.
22. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease don't let it be Bartfeld/Murrue. Please? Okay, well I don't mind if they both go on the Archangel and make good comrades and go around in peace. Actually, come to think of it, that's kinda sweet. But then Murrue picking up the mask at the end... ah, well, it can be taken many ways
23. This, to me, seems to be screaming "Kira not with Lacus". It is begging the question "Why?!!".
24. Shinn vs. Kira. Again, why? Maybe because Shinn is so bent on revenge and war and wants to revive that angry spirit in people and Kira himself is angry that people still think this way.
25. Take this anyway you like, Lunamaria, Athrun, SHinn and Rey in the pic... We have the ZAFT Trio here but it's broken up by Athrun placed there, next to Lunamaria. Hmm? Or perhaps you look at it horizontally, Lunamaria with Rey (again) and Athrun with Shinn.
I know this is absolutely stupid, pointless and annoying so this should be SPAM, but this is so fun and mindless and ridiculous :P Everything is purely based on stupid assumptions and huge presumptions, and it's really... pointless! It's not like everything in the OP means something and it's not like it'll change later, either. S'all in the name of stupid fun and predicting formula series like Gundam SEED Destiny :p
But seriously speaking I think some things are very apparent.
1. Lunamaria and Rey are more than friends.
2. Stellar and Shinn definitely have something going on.
3. Kira and Lacus definitely have something wrong, especially the Lacus-with-Athrun thing
I'll just sit and wait for the next ep patiently then, all will be revealed in due time.
So how was the first episode; amazing, good, okay?

I think what we need is not a new thread, but a new forum already... a thread with almost 500 posts before the anime even airs, that's some crazy popularity :twitch:
I'm sure there will be a crazy amount of more posts coming when more people have seen the first episode and the OP/ED :p

So how was the first episode; amazing, good, okay?
Well, if you like Athrun and Cagalli, it's great since that's pretty much what most of the episode concentrates on... Other than that you see a few glimpses of the new characters, Gilbert Dullindal reminds everyone of Char Aznable, and some funky firefight, and a bunch of mutilated bodies (and a detached arm) in the beginning.
Of course, being a first episode, the animation is excellent compared to the later half of SEED's. Don't know how the future episodes will be like though since the quality generally decline after this.
Did a quck search to see if there's a separate "Destiny" thread yet, and none appeared. Better than making the existing "Protagonist" thread even longer.
Time for a Destiny forum? You know we'll be needing one... :heh:
Personally I thoguht the first ep was okay, nothing amazing really, maybe I'm just used to all this angst stuff and I knew what was coming :) (The experience of watching this sort of stuff week-by-week and watching it all at one go on VCD is quite different)
Can't comment on the Gundams due to my severe lack of knowledge in that area... The Shinn accidentally poking Stellar's boob thing was a bit silly...
The most intriguing part was the OP :P Decent OP but I'm a bit sick of TMR, kind of... and my raw had the ads shown too, that was interesting :D TMR in a ZAFT suit?!!
Also I am C + Ping my absolutely stupid character relationship based on OP thingy here. Could the moderators kindly delete the posts from the other thread.

but somehow I thought I was watching an animated version of Power Rangers... with all those flying parts, which combined into the Gundam in Mid-Air...
For what reason didn't they build a complete machine from the start? :eyespin:
Well, its a classic Gundam thing. The first Gundam did it, The ZZ Gundam did it, the Victory Gundam did it. So its nothing new... Especially since Power Rangers (actually the Sentai combination robots) and Gundam originated from the same Super Robot genre.

Hrm, if the ending and opening sequences are supposed to give away the story, then a cloned Lacus might actually be a possibility.
Look at the OP: no other character gets a double animation. That helpless one hiding behind Athrun must be the evil one! :P

Well future eps I'll only watched subbed, but I just wanted to see how things looked.
I still don't understand why you would make a gundam with different components like that. Doesn't that increase it's bulk because each part needs an engine ?
Man. That was some real carnage there. His sisters hand? parents dead bodies and blood everywhere?
Lunamaria is hawt...Stellar is Hawt...Rey is hawt... Oh wait, that's a dude.
BTW what's with the looks between Rey and the Zaft leader? Someone's in love...
Nice disguise Athrun, I don't recognize you at all! :eyespin:
Hey. I thought Lacus was doing the dancing. Uh oh, Stellar is her rival? :D
Hey, not even half-way thru and Shin already copped a feel on a girl? Wow. He's doing good...
Wow. Is it just me or is this a lot bloodier then Seed?
Athrun shoulda went seed mode...
The Impulse Gundam parts combination looks cool, yet I still think it's totally impractical... ;)

i believe so too... each indiviual part has it's own pilot until it is connected i think... so there must be like 4 piliots then chaging into 1 gundam... what a waste of time and money... i'll laugh if one of those parts gets blown up... although they have backups it be funny fighing without the leg part or somehting...
Yes, it was rather impractical, especially when
The transformation takes place right before the enemies' eyes! It would have been funny if Stella just shoot the parts down.
Main difference between Kira and Shin is eyes color.

1) The "Core Splendor" (plane-like thing) can eject, so if the suit is about to blow or is trapped like Strike was in SEED Ep 30 the pilot can still escape
2) It makes replacing damage parts during battle easier since a replacement to damaged parts can be made without the pilot having to return to ship
3) It makes for a cool toy
Anyway, watch Victory Gundam if you don't understand the applications of the core block system. You should understand it much better if you do.
As for Kira and Shinn... Kira's skin is darker, his hair is brown, his eyes are purple. Shinn's skin is light, his hair is black, and his eyes are red... Also Shinn's face seems to be rounder and Kira's seems to be pointier.
Saviour haven't appeared yet :( i thought Athrun would have jumped into it instead of a Zaku...

Thoughts after finishing the episode:
Things that I liked:
-Impulse's entry, even with the lengthy five course menu recital during its launching.
-The new Human CPUs, they actually work together as a well-trained team and not some crazy lunatics. Their Gundam-stealing operation made the previous Zaft raid look like a boyscout camping trip.
-Stella. 'Nuff said. I thought that her looking at the knife was a nice touch.
-Better animation than Seed, but will probably go down in quality.
-(might be too early to tell, but) seemingly more complex character relationships.
-Tighter storytelling (still remains to be seen as it progresses)
Things that I didn't particularly like:
-The simplified character design is still bothersome
-Cagalli weakness and disorientation during the fight seemed out of character.
Despite a few rough edges, I'm pretty excited about what's in store. Destiny is off to a good start, with improvements over the previous series, and the first episode was much better than the first episode of Seed.
Time for a Destiny forum? You know we'll be needing one... :heh:
The mods will start one up as soon as the number of posts goes to critical mass. Usual practice. :) Thanks also for listing the physical differences between Kira and Shin. Seriously, though, the two still look really alike... Hmm. Now there's a bad thought. I really hope the character design was either a lack of imagination or a want to appeal to the first series's viewers, and not some plot twist they have lined up. :p
Easy, stomach. Don't get sick just yet...
I didn't really like the part where Lacus is shown clinging onto Athrun. (I'm an Athrun x Cagalli fan. XP) But since both Luna and Cagalli were holding guns, what would they make Lacus do? Hold a gun too? :heh: So yeah... just my input on that scene.
Well, if you like Athrun and Cagalli, it's great since that's pretty much what most of the episode concentrates on...
Which sadly enough isn't the case. Oh well I will manage.
I wonder how long it takes before the speed subbers sub the show.
Well, its a classic Gundam thing. The first Gundam did it, The ZZ Gundam did it, the Victory Gundam did it. So its nothing new... Especially since Power Rangers (actually the Sentai combination robots) and Gundam originated from the same Super Robot genre.
I have to point out though that so far V Gundam stands out in the "merging mecha" theme. Because basicly its the only anime I've seen with "merging mecha" theme where the enemy actually tried shooting down the merging mecha and was succesful various times instead of the "hey look the giant mecha is merging lets all watch". (I admit I haven't seen many of the classic Super Robot genre)

I seem to be only quoting you today :p I hope you don't mind ;)
4) Less production time for the mobile suit, as the various parts can be constructed independently in a parralel way.

Also Shinn's face seems to be rounder and Kira's seems to be pointier. From all the magazines and SEED Destiny book I have, Shin's hair is very dark purple not black. The quickest way for me to identify Kira in the intermission and ED is his clothes from SEED Special Edition II and he is always paired with Lacus. The one in the show for now should always be Shin.

The main difference between the Impulse and the Victory is that one is practical and one isn't.
The Victory Gundam could combine and transform in two seconds and only had thre parts including the Core Fighter - Top Fighter (arms) and Bottom Fighter (legs). The League Militaire wasn't anywhere near PLANT when it came to resources and pilots and had to make sure that their best pilots (which were issued Victories) survived - the ability to eject and replace damaged parts quickly was a part of this strategy. The fact that the Victory wasn't completely crippled while missing a part is also good - refer to the "Chicken Episode" as I call it whilst Uso is running around and fighting the Motorad Team with only a Bottom Fighter docked and is using the leg-mounted beam rifles as weapons.
Now, the Impulse makes no sense at all. As a weapons platform it is inferior in practicality to the Strike, and MUCH inferior to the Strike Rogue IWSP (seen in the intro). It combines fast if judged by the intro, but it combines reeeally slow if judged by the show. We'll say that it was in separate parts for now since the Minerva was still in drydock and no fighting was expected.
PLANT and ZAFT have some of the, if not THE best technical, scientific and engineering staff in the Cosmic Era as well as advanced and large production facilities judged by the fact that they produced a large quantity (although not large enough) of GuAIZ so close to the end of the war. They also employed specialized artillery mobile suits, fast ground combat mobile suits and air superiority mobile suits as well as amphibious suits. So why would they build the Impulse? The Impulse is most probably an earlier prototype than the three that were taken due to the fact that they hadn't been assigned to anyone yet (putting an OS password might be a good idea), and also the fact that it's incredibly stupid compared to the others.
Gaia: General use and ground superiority use. Not much can touch this on the ground and judged by it's rather thin look it is built for speed.
Abyss: Lots of guns, built to bear heavy firepower to bear as well as a mobile armor mode.
Chaos: Flexible selection of beam rifle, missiles and the gun pods as well as a high-speed mobile armor mode.
Saviour: Space/Air superiority mobile suit, this one is both fast and well-armed.
Impulse: Has no redeeming quality except that it's a multi-role unit - but it could be done so much better, like the Strike IWSP. All of it's mission packs, excluding the flight pack one, also seems to limit it's usefulness - the Blast mode lacks close-range weaponry and the Sword mode lacks ranged weaponry except for beam boomerangs and what I believe is a shotgun of some kind strapped to its back. The flight pack has a beam rifle, added speed and maneouverability and beam sabers for close combat. The core block system also suggests that the Impulse has got less structural stability than the other units.
It would have been better from a military stand-point if the Impulse was just treated as a "Strike II" and left without the useless combination gimmick - but selling MSiA action figures to kids is what counts I guess.

We'll say that it was in separate parts for now since the Minerva was still in drydock and no fighting was expected.
The Impulse also has three parts... Four if you count the Silhouette which can be remote controlled as its own unit (similar to Justice's backpack) and is not essential for the suit to function.
And the Victory Gundam transform in a few seconds. But what about all its launch sequences? That took forever. Don't forget that the combination sequence in this episode included the launch sequence as well which made it seem longer than usual.
As for the length of the sequence though it wasn't that much longer than the ZZ's combination sequence. And the practicality isn't much worse than any of the other core-systems in other Gundams (especially in those where they act as escape pods, like Shining, Crossbone, Turn A, etc... At least this doesn't require the abandoning of the complete suit), other than Victory which is the core-block at its finest (and most costly)
Blast mode has the beam javelin which serves as its melee weapon (it can also be a range weapon judging from the name). Sword mode has the two beam boomerangs, and those are pretty damn effective sometimes. So they are by no means limited. Of course, Sword and Blast are much more specialized, but that's the whole point of the packs in the first place.
And like I said, the Silouhettes can be remote controlled by the Impulse pilot, which means that changing packs doesn't require Skygraspers risking their lives as delivery boys anymore.
Screens first eps.

i believe ti's the first episode thats why it is slow in transforming.... maybe like later on it will be faster because GSD don't want their audiance to be bored of the transformation.... and also maybe this is the first time they transformed?? thats why it was slower... if they were used to the transformation it will go alot faster in my opinion....
As a big Victory fan, I have to agree that the three parts of the Victory worked in VERY well with their Guerilla-style tactics and limited resources. (Not like the League was trying to be sneaky, but when you are going up against a massive army that drafts like 15-year olds, you have to adjust your strategy). It was far from a model gimmick.
I haven't watched SEED D yet, so I'm reading with interest what everyone has to say about how D's combine system works.
I've only seen a few eps of ZZ, anyone want to comment on how the three parts were used in that show?
Brightman: Well, the Victory mostly launched in its complete form while docked on spacecraft, but not while they were on the trailers - probably easier to hide. I really hope that they will launch it as a complete unit when it goes into battle later or Destiny will become quite silly.
I didn't know that the Blast (henceforth known as the BFG Mode) had nifty close-combat weaponry - could you explain some how they are used? And the beam boomerangs are very limited ranged weaponry - useful, yes, but I would rather have a beam rifle. Why couldn't they borrow something else from Victory, namely the cool beam pistols that they had? :D
And in ZZ it could combine into an attack space craft. There was a second cockpit between the barrels of the double beam rifle.

The Lacus scene in the OP where she's behind Athrun is the one thing that I'm most curious about at the moment. Her facial expression just looks evil to me for some reason (the raised eyebrow/smirk). Hopefully there aren't two Lacus's running around. Perhaps the image is meant to be a "propaganda"-esque view of Athrun/Lacus in Lunamaria's mind (or maybe just Plant in general). Athrun has his back turned so that could be him turning his back on Zaft. Lacus evil facial expression could be her "manipulating people" to betray Zaft/Plant (w/ her hands on Athrun's chest maybe it's implying that he was manipulated too). The Cagalli/Lunamaria part could just be the two character's opposing views on what happened in the past.
Or maybe I just like the idea of propaganda. :heh:
Impulse's core fighter system thing does look a little useless but willing to give it time and see if they develop it some more later and show some use before I call it flat out useless. Would have rather seen Yzak and Dearka keep their Gundams since they weren't in too bad shape at the end of Seed and sure they were more powerful than the Zakus (though the Zaku's do look pretty nifty). Noticed that Kira looks to be wearing the Orb pilot outfits (the ones Athrun and Dearka wore near the end of Seed) in the faceoff w/ Shinn scene during the OP. So it looks like he's still with Orb; so don't think Kira's gone off the deep end or anything yet.

Well, other than descriptions and pics I can't really say anymore than that. But like I said, Blast Impulse has beam javelins as seen in this pic: http://www.tamashii.jp/special/images/tok_12_8.jpg. I wouldn't know effective they are in melee combat though. But at least it isn't like Launcher Strike.
And as for having a beam rifle on the Sword Impulse, it might be hard for it to carry one with those two huge swords...
And in ZZ it could combine into an attack space craft. There was a second cockpit between the barrels of the double beam rifle.
Yeah, ZZ is also another one of those transformable combination suits and like I mentioned before, unlike the Impulse its parts could be manually controlled so it functioned a bit like a Sentai robot... But you have to admit, the gimmick was mostly useless for a huge slow machine like the ZZ (especially its mobile fortress mode) and its transformation is quite slow. Plus they kept showing it too through the entire duration of the show too.
And there's also the RX-78 and all the useless "accessories" that came with its core-block system. Heck, even the Zeta Gundam's transformation took a bit of time sometimes.

Well, for GSD in particular you should really watch Seed first since (for now) it seems to concentrate a lot on the returning characters... But who knows. Its only been the first episode.
You probally will NEED to watch Gseed (since that's destiny is the direct sequel 2 years after)
Anyways, is it jsut me or are they totally just using generic faces and hair, and randomly changing eye and hair color to make a new character?
Shin looks almost identical to Kira ><
yup, it seems there are two Lacus(es) in the ED? what? Lacus cloning? an army of Lacuses? lol that'd be funny :eyespin:
LOL!!! Cloning of lacus-chans...talking about clones, there's some evidence that Neo MIGHT BE Flaga!!!
1. Neo has to be related to fllaga because he's wearing a mask again...like Creuset...(clone or wat, donno yet)
2. Neo pilots this new M.A. (mobile armour) that is very very similar to Mobius Zero
3. Neo's voice actor is Flaga's voice actor >.<
4. In the ending of Destiny, Murrue Ramius is trying to pick up Neo's helmet (hmmmm...)
5. Rumor: In SEED's Special edition 3 - the same scenes happen, just that mwu's helmet isn't floating in space. (he survived???)

Well its a direct sequel but its about (mostly) a new cast, so it won't be different from watching Char's Counterattack without watching Zeta and ZZ (which happens to be the case with most people with the way Bandai Ent is releasing Gundam)
Anyways, is it jsut me or are they totally just using generic faces and hair, and randomly changing eye and hair color to make a new character?
Shin looks almost identical to Kira ><
Well, I guess Hisashi Hirai has a few faces in his repetoir, and he just assign them one by one to all the characters he makes... So if you look at every one of his anime there's a character who looks a certain way... :heh:
And of course, there's the fact that he's not allowed to make some crazy hairstyles to make his characters unique. If people pay attention, most anime character designers drawn their characters the same way... Its just that their hair is the attribute that makes them different most of the time, and Hirai's style is unique and people aren't use to it enough...
seriously...if I was subbing this series.
I'd spend a few min at the beginging of each series with a slide show showing off the diffrent characters and how they LOOK the same (and what the diffrences are)
some of the voices in some of the scenes are similar enough, that they should put "editor's notes" to mark which people are in this scene so we don't think it's a diffrent character :D haha :)
but I guess you're right...however I never had that problem with gseed, but when I just started watchign gseed 2 I thought another girl was calgari (sp?) and shin was kira all very confusing.

Watching the Phase 1 RAW... I'm confused as hell. And even more confused when I tried to read this thread for some answers.
I can't even tell who Kira is and who Shin is, damn.
So from what I gather, the "protagonist" this time is an equivalent of the prequel's "antagonist" (in terms of organizations).
The first phase was nice... but I was sitting here in my chair thinking "Now where have I seen this before!!!???" when the Gundams got stolen.
So the lowdown is, Kira is now a supporting character, his mind is warped because of what happened in SEED (does Frey have something to do with that?). He's disappeared for a long time only to return and save Cagalli and Athrun in whatever that Transformable Mobile Armor was (that was him right?)
Then there's all these look-alikes and "clones" of dead and living people?
Is there any sort of site that someone can provide to clear this up, or must I simply wait for the subs, and for more episodes?
Anyway, I hope Kira gets significant screentime too, he reminded me of Shinji... only better. I hope he doesn't get the shaft.

Can someone screencap all of the characters and label them? I'm really getting confused by all these names thrown out...
Correct Brightman, the ZZ is a big lumbering fool (but a loveable lumbering fool), but then ZZ was targeted at the same audience that SEED D is.
And there's also the RX-78 and all the useless "accessories" that came with its core-block system. Heck, even the Zeta Gundam's transformation took a bit of time sometimes.
Well, in the novel and in the movies the Core Block System is just used as a means of escape; It was more or less treated as an ejection experiment. In the TV series all of the gimicky combinations was to raise the sales of the toys, I don't deny that, but Tomino removed it in the movies. I always thought it looked a bit dumb to be honest :P
And the Zeta transformations are very quick to me most of the time - like when Judau is going up against Purus Qubeley and then re-enter the atmosphere. That's probably the fastest I can think of.
And the Zeta also has the advantage of being able to move about while transforming, which the Impulse doesn't seem to be able to do while combining.
Hopefully the Destiny will be a funnier MS. :D
So from what I gather, the "protagonist" this time is an equivalent of the prequel's "antagonist" (in terms of organizations).
Seed's antagonists are pretty much extremist factions in Zaft and EA, with Orb being the protagonist. We don't really know enough about Destiny to draw such conclusion here.
So the lowdown is, Kira is now a supporting character, his mind is warped because of what happened in SEED (does Frey have something to do with that?). He's disappeared for a long time only to return and save Cagalli and Athrun in whatever that Transformable Mobile Armor was (that was him right?)
That was Shin, not Kira. For all we know, Kira could be sitting in some island relaxing.

It's rather easy to tell who Kira is and Shin is. It would be easier if Shin hadn't lost his funky hat though.
Kira - brown hair, purple eyes, darker complexion.
Shin - dark purple hair, red eyes, lighter complexion.
And Kira has no transformable mobile armor - you can see him fighting Shin in the Impulse with the Freedom in the op (in a Creuset - Flaga like way). He also has the black uniform of the EA commandos.
And yeah, I want Kira to have screentime as well - he's a little angsty but he's a nice boy. And he's a good pilot too; He could probably play along with the best of the UC pilots even if he isn't a Newtype just because of his skills and Coordination.
I watched the Seed D raw earlier tonight. I knew i would hate it, since seed was absolutely hideous. And i have but one thing to say after seeing destiny.
I want to spit.
And vomit.
Gundam Seed and Seed D almost undo nearly 20 years of following Gundam for me. At this point, I'd almost rather see the franchise just killed and buried in the pasture than to keep bastardizing it.

Hm... simple proof that I don't even know who is who anymore. My mind is boggled.
Hopefully things will start making sense later on. I hope Kira's enjoying his long vacation on that island.

That's a bit extreme isn't it?
I think it's good that there are series that take it in a new direction, and like it or not, SEED revitalized Gundam. There are talks about an animated UC series for 2005/2006, isn't there? And we'll have the Zeta movies soon as well.
And come on, you can't judge something after just one episode. That's just as ignorant as some of the Wingers who doesn't want to watch MSG because it has older animation.
^Or SEEDers for that matter

one thing I'm concerned is that it seems the series totally forgot the Coordinator idea now... Coordinators should be genetically enhanced humans who are by all accounts near superhuman level. But now it seems these enhanced humans are like... what? super-super-humans? and the Coordinators doesn't show even anything like having superhuman reflex or whatnot... :eyespin:

No, im judging it on 52 episodes. 51 of Seed, and one of Seed D.
Revitalized Gundam? Gundam doesn't need revitalizing. Its been around for 25 years. Seed didnt save it. Seed brought a lot of new fans into the fold, yeah, but its not like Gundam was on life-support before it.
Taking it in a new direction? If by "new direction", you mean "rip-off" nearly verbatim, then yeah, i guess. Huge parts of seed merely weren't "based" on Gundam, it was lifted STRAIGHT from gundam. They didnt even bother to change the events (*cough* Desert *cough*), they just changed the names of the characters.
Seed D is headed down the Zeta path. Itll be interesting to see how closely it mirrors Z.
After one ep. of seed D, i can already pick out the equivalent Zeta characters.
Athrun - char/quattro (right down to the freakin' glasses)
Shin - Camille
Stella - Four
Kira - this one is too obvious

Well, you don't have to watch it. Fact is though, Seed is a cash-cow for Bandai, and maybe they'll appropriate some of the profit made from Seed to a UC-related series to satisfy the older Gundam fans. I say it's a win-win situation. You'd save some time and stomach acid from not watching Seed, and can be happy in a year or two that you'll be watching a Gundam series more or less catered to your tastes, supported out of pocket by legions of Seed fangirls and fanboys.
Seed isn't great, but if it wasn't popular then they wouldn't make a sequel. I'd agree with srb in that it's good to try new things with an old franchise. It certainly paid off for Bandai.
Who are the enhanced humans? Did I miss something during Gundam SEED or is this something that occured in Destiny?
in the Universal century universe, you had Newtypes and attempts at creating artificial ones, the strengthened humans of Zeta.
Of course, in the great rip-off that is the Seed franchise, we know them as "Coordinators" and the artificially enhanced pilots of the EA *the idiot trio in Seed and the trio to which Stella belongs to in D*

Right, and in doing so, they put out a crappy product. Watered down for the masses...the same that will flock to the next big thing once seed is done. They aren't going to be turned on to UC gundam...they'll just watch it and say "this isn't like seed", then be off to join whatever the newest hot show is. Gundam makes enough money as it is, UC and non-suck gundam don't need Seed to help fund 'em.
I can understand the general annoyance with Hisashi Hirai having really plain character designs that are all the same (mind you, I watched a bit of Fafner and then started watching SEED and I kept going "eh? wait, why is Miriallia sounding so weird?" and then I started wondering where the hell Athrun's Fafner was :heh: ) ...
But I suppose the most logical reason behind this isn't that he's totally out of ideas (surely you can't be so out of ideas), but rather that he has to make them look generally the same so that the animators can draw them more easily, and therefore you (should) get more consistent drawing and better animation (since they can draw more frames since they're used to drawing it). ..
But honestly, ... I really couldn't tell whether it was Cagalli or Stellar when I first saw the OP... :[
And I still wish they wouldn't make Cagalli look so weak during battle...

Well, that's assuming a few thousand from the hundreds of thousands who flock to Seed won't be curious to find out more about classic Gundam. I've seen a number of people who after watching Seed began looking around for other Gundam series (plenty of them hanging around the two or three foras and IRC channels). A few of them do become hardcore Gundam fans who do appreciate among other things, a decent plot, good character designs and what other attributes which give reason to like older Gundam series. What's more, they also tend to be more articulate and evangelize and try to get others into Gundam by word of mouth. Bandai recognizes this and that's why they are going to make the Zeta movies to get more people interested in their older products and to become quasi patrons for their merchandising.
Also, any hardcore following tends to be a minute but vocal minority. Be happy that you are part of that minority who know more (and arguably, better taste). However, Bandai is a profit-making corporation, and making enough money is never enough in a competitive market environment.
The first Gundam series I saw a little of when I first got into anime two years ago or so was Wing and Endless Waltz. I didn't like it at all; Too super roboty without the flair of super robot shows.
Then SEED came and blew me away. This of course interested me in more Gundam and by the time I had watched 20 SEED episodes I already owned Federation vs Zeon for the PS2 and I had begun watching MSG, 8th, 0080 and 0083. I loved Gundam, even if I still today think that Wing is mostly a big bag of crap because of Suicide Boy and the Idiot Crew (except for Duo, I like him).
I dislike a lot of things about SEED and SEED D; I do not think it's the best Gundam show out there, but I do like and enjoy it. You're looking for another MSG, Zeta or Victory; SEED isn't for you.
And I thought the exact mimical timing of the deployment of the GuAIZ/Gelgoog was more apparent than the first part of the series due to the striking similarities regarding such a minor thing. I am well aware of the fact that SEED generously borrows from the older series. And it DID revitalize Gundam in the sense that it gave a lot of cash and introduced it to a whole crop of new fans, and out of this bunch there WILL come new mega-Gundam fans. I am one of them and several of my friends have followed in my footsteps after I have told them how great it was.
And we don't know how enhanced the trio is, only that they are. Since they seemed to be able to outspeed and outthink Coordinators (including surprising an MS ace, but some of it surely is because Athrun hasn't been in a MS for quite some time while the trio surely has trained a lot in preparation) it would suggest that they are enhanced to become better fighters - Coordinators are enhanced with better reflexes and thought processing and such, but they're not "super human".

Ah... I remember the idiot trio now. They annoyed the hell out of me. But now there's more? Damn.
Well, the druggie trio in SEED took performance-enhancing drugs to enhance their reflexes and stuff like that which would allow them to operate a mobile suit at the same level as a Coordinator pilot.

I find the current trio alot better organized and predictable than the "idiot trio". Maybe they've refined the process or use volunteers? Blue Cosmos would never let the "idiot trio" intermingle with society let alone out to window-shop...
I am one of them and several of my friends have followed in my footsteps after I have told them how great it was.
I tried the samething but all of my friends still hate Gundam, they think the original is boring or sucks because the animation is dated. Maybe they lack taste, that could explain alot of stuff :p

Probably. Never judge a book by its cover as they say - one of my friends even managed to get his father (who otherwise hates cartoons) to like MSG.

Blue looks alot like the dark hair guy from destiny.
They all have the same facial design, they look deformed.
I think that's a bit of an overstatement...
While yes, it is true they look veeery similar in some, like I said, we can't go straight ahead and kill Hisashi Hirai for it... There's prolly some sort of balance you have to keep between quality of animation and similarity of character designs... I've neve watched Scryed, but the animation quality for these anime isn't that bad... though I'd rather have different character designs for once and cut down on the animation quality a bit. ._.
But yeah, it's not liek they ALL look the same. Let's see... that weird flappy pink Vaia person in Infinite Ryvius (Neya), does she look like anyone from those series? That annoying Lucson doesn't look like anyone else from his creations to me either, and neither does Aoi Housen (not a lot, anyway), and Kouji Aiba (though he reminds me of someone else not from his creations)...
Then again they're all from teh same anime :p
Oh, well, I haven't seen another Yzak yet... or another Aisha... (I liked AIsha, okay!)
Of course, then again, I've never watched scryed, so...
EDIT: Aiba Yuuki from Infinite Ryvius does look similar to Kira in some ways, imo.
Also, I think it's a bit harder to complain about face shape because well, have you tried drawing 1000s of pictures of people and wouldn't you rather have them with the same face shape... Also non-main characters tend to have more varying face shapes.
Of course there are more accomplished character designers out there (imo) like (again, imo) Kise Kazuchika and Ando Masashi, etc... yeah...

Yuuki and Kira might be a bit similar, but it's probably because of the fact they both have the same voice actor more than anything else.

well, yup, they look similar, but they are drawn by the same guy... I mean, it's actually quite common, like the characters in Inuyasha, Ranma, Urusei Yatsura look quite similar to each other... I can tolerate the similar character design, but the thing bothering me is those strange tendencies he takes in drawing the characters, like in Soukyuu no Fafner, everyone has bars on their face. And now in SEED Destiny, as mentioned by someone before, it seems some female characters' legs are dangerously thin... :twitch:
And we don't know how enhanced the trio is, only that they are. Since they seemed to be able to outspeed and outthink Coordinators (including surprising an MS ace, but some of it surely is because Athrun hasn't been in a MS for quite some time while the trio surely has trained a lot in preparation) it would suggest that they are enhanced to become better fighters - Coordinators are enhanced with better reflexes and thought processing and such, but they're not "super human".
well, the first Coordinator is surely portrayed as quite superhuman, some of the smartest and strongest people ever... And Kira and Athrun are shown to be able to fight armed Naturals with bare hands... But now those enhanced humans are like... Madlax... dancing and shooting and cutting down Coordinators without even aim or look at them... with cool poses and acrobatic moves nonetheless :eyespin:
Oh, and it seems now it's clear that it's Kira who killed Shin's family, I guess that explains the Shin vs. Kira in the OP
While I would have preferred Yasuhiko's character designs Hirais is by no means overused in the industry!

Dreamless, that was most probably because compared to everyone else who were ordinary Naturals he was a "super human"; the next generation of Coordinators were probably not as dominant.
And yes, Kira and Athrun can fight Naturals with their bare hands, but they have enhanced speed, reflexes, perception and such - but obviously not as much as the new trio. They have been enhanced to be warriors, while the old Coordinators were just enhanced to eliminate stuff like terminal diseases and become smarter and faster.
And for the spoiler:
Well, it's not 100 % guaranteed, but it sure looks that way right now.
:stupid:

blah. check my post again, it should work this time.
Back to Seed Destiny, anyone else noticed how Athrun's zaku warrior's axe dissapeared when it lost its arm, then regaining it when Impulse appears?

To all SEED DESTINY Fansubbers,
If you plan to add an introductory slide show for characters and mechanics in your SEED DESTINY fansubs (A-Kingdom did that in SEED) then feel free to use my high resolution scans below especially those are from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY The Formally Fastest Guide book because they have clean background. Just give me credits for using them.
The main mechanics already have official English names but none of the characters have in any prints so be careful to name them.
Most of the scans are 1,800 pixels in height and 200kB-400kB in size.

Dreamless: Yes, that too. People who have heard me comment on Gundam SEED have heard me say Kira is girly, among other things. However, since the character designer--like most character designers in anime/manga--isn't all that skilled at making individual characters look distinct, I didn't bother referring to that the two look alike (I think most characters in Gundam SEED (D) look about the same, excepting differences in hair/eye/costume--but again this is something that can be said of many shows).
HaRoRuleZ: Oh, okay. :heh: Maybe someone can vote on which one they want me to translate first, because the jpegs are all starting to swim together for me ^^;. Then other Japanese people/speakers can perhaps chip in and translate the other ones (delegate, delegate ^^; ). As long as no one launches a 50-page thread about how the names were "Westernized" (god I became so sick of this debate too)... I refuse to take responsibility for how Japanese has limited phonetics and therefore theoretically allows names to be transliterated in various ways.
As for Anime-Kraze, no, we're not "into" this show as a group (god, how many groups are subbing this again?), though several staff members like this series a lot and will be sure to be keeping the rest of the group updated on anything Gundam SEED-related. (To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of this show myself, mainly due to Kira and the fact that it was psychologically draining to translate/fansub the previous show to all involved, but all the political dialogue was good practice, I think.)
Gaia and Abyss Gundam look sweet :)

I would vote for characters translation. The show goes on with characters not the mechas therefore it is important to know them.

Poor Athrun - Next time you want your tom-boy girlfriend to dress up like a girl, instead pushing the offical representive stuff, say what you really feel: "Come on Cagalli, can do just look like a girl once in a while, for me? OK guys, SEED veterans and newcomers, runpsicat dedicated her precious time in translating difficult stuff in Gundam SEED for us at AnimeSuki before. It's time for you to raise your hands.
I would vote for characters translation. The show goes on with characters not the mechas therefore it is important to know them.
Vote please!!!
Characters for sure, put the bigger emphasis on the newer ones too rather than the returning ones.
Don't think anyone's mentioned this yet about the ED, what w/ the controversy over clone Lacus (and we shall call her Rakusu :heh: ), but Rey (?) appears to be wearing the same type of uniform as Klueze wore at the end of Gundam Seed. Doesn't indicate anything other than what we're all already thinking, but think they're making this a little too blatant...
Edit: Also, think I'm right on that scene w/ Lacus behind Athrun, at least in the sense that it may be referring to the past more than the future. The gundam in the background is Justice I believe (all his damn suits look the same). It's the exact same background picture from the old Gundam Seed OPs anyways. Don't think we're going to be seeing Justice popping up anytime in the future. :heh:

Why even bother doing this? You get to know the characters as the show moves on. Sure Gundam is known for having a large number of characters but I never really had any problems with it.

Actually that expression of hers remind me of a surprised Lucy from Elfen Lied... Psycho.
But we didn't really see them take any drugs before... Those druggies were calm and peaceful and then turn psycho when they take the medication, but these guys just got serious all of a sudden (actually Auel looked pretty much the same throughout)
And Blaat: Gundam is also known for putting a lot of background stuff on its many characters that aren't shown in the TV series itself (Gundam Wing: Ep Zero anyone?)... So the more descriptions we have, the better, even if we'll learn some of it in the show itself.

well, it seems there are two Lacuses, one with Kira/Shin, the other with Athrun, or something...
Oh, and the guy in the intermission should be Shin I think... the one catching Pinky from Lacus I mean...
It isn't, I thought it was Shin at first too because of the hair color but it's just the lighting of the scene. It's Kira's haircut (Shin's is more uhh "wild" looking and Kira's all hangs pretty much straight down) and that drab black suit Kira's wearing in the ED so I'm pretty sure it's Kira.
But we didn't really see them take any drugs before... Those druggies were calm and peaceful and then turn psycho when they take the medication, but these guys just got serious all of a sudden (actually Auel looked pretty much the same throughout).
True, but the drug could have been improved since then to last longer, or maybe it's regulated inside them through an implant of some sort, maybe as their adrenaline levels increase so does the drug...have to wait and see. :heh:

About the two Lacus thing... Something strange I (and others) found:
Lacus #1 & 2:
http://www.gundams.net/files/pictures/destiny/episode1/destinyop%20(14).jpg
The two Lacus's here are wearing different clothing, and if you pay attention to the dancing one, her headpiece is a STAR and not her trademark one which she never once removed in the original and is pretty much a part of her... You can't see the other Lacus's headpiece from here, but if you watch the OP, when she turns you can see that its her old one.
Lacus #2:
http://66.90.80.57/files/pictures/destiny/episode1/destinyop%20(35).jpg
The Lacus here with Athrun is wearing the STAR headpiece rather than her old one.

Both Lacus's here with Kira are the ones with her old headpiece. And of course, there's the other Lacus sitting on the Impulse in the ED as well.
Which leads me to believe that there ARE indeed two Lacus's... One with the star headpiece and one with her old one... The "new" Lacus seems to be with Athrun and old one seems to be with Kira (????)
Gotta say this is pretty ****ed up if its true... :bash:

Did they make any sort of changes in the specials? I couldn't find anything from the last few episodes of Seed that would suggest another Lacus. The clone (if there is indeed one) appeared sometime during Durandel's rule. My guess is that she's a puppet created and used by him to gain legitimacy as heir to Klein's leadership. The real Lacus was either forced into hiding at some point or just disappeared with Kira.
But, that's just all pure speculation... :naughty:

At the end of SEED Lacus looks scary while directing the last battle (especially those seed mode eyes)...
What I do not want to see is all the characters I like die one after another... it hurts me deep enough to see Nicol and Mwu die >.<. *hopes neither Kira or Athrun dies tragically*
I sure hope the scene with Lacus+Athrun is just a flashback or a Lacus clone which the Zaft attempt to use to get Athrun fighting for Zaft again.
Of course there is the possibility of Kira getting killed (since he seem to only play a minor role - might sacrifice himself to protect his friends), and Lacus wondering her way back to Athrun......
or even worse, Lacus becomes Fllay #2... >.<

Ook....now I noticed that too. By the way, the intermission....the guy there is not Shinn....its Kira....If you guys look carefully, you'll noticed that the hairstyle belongs to Kira and not Shin. Furthermore, Kira's eye colour is purple, not red. And why the heck would they want to create a clone of Lacus!!?? This is getting a little freaky....

xxx well i thought the first one was good and i own every single gundam series except G and sd and i think that this series is off to a good start i just watched the raw and i think its badass.
Two Lacuses eh?
But, hmm... Could this have something to do with Kira supposedly turning to the EA, if that indeed happens or it's just in Shin's mind (the sequence in the op) that he fights the Freedom?
I thought that if the cloning thing indeed was true, since we don't know it yet, there are only indicators, then the EA might have cloned Flay - they could easily have gotten DNA samples I believe - and used her to turn Kira to them? Just a theory, since nothing at all points towards this, but it could happen.
^Heh they probably cloned Mwu (*cough*Neo*cough*) so why not rest of the SEED cast who are supposed to be dead :P
Maybe this show is like Dragonball Z in that aspect, characters who can return from dead.

I don't think Kira will ever turn to EA anymore, and I doubt EA will clone Fllay either. Don't forget Shinn sort of divert all his hatred to the pilot of Freedom and Calamity. Since Calamity is gone now, it will most probably want to kill Kira. That's pretty logical. Besides, Shinn also hates Orb for now, so its not impossible for him to fight Orb either. I am puzzled why Athrun returned to ZAFT though (refer to ending). One possible reason may be because of Lacus's clone. However, if his heart were to sway that easily, then what's the point of being with Cagalli in the first place? The 2nd possible reason may be spying....but I really doubt that is the case.
Seed destiny is not bad from watching the first epsiode (of course not that great if you compare it to good ol' Zeta Gundam or MSG and such), maybe it will become something better or worse, but seriously,
Hijacking Gundams again in the first epsiode!?!?! Once is already enough...
And about that "2 Lacus" thing, it's intresting how it will turn out...I hope they just won't go "Sorry the artists screwed up, so we are changing it back in epsiode 2"

well, it depends on how close this "Lacus clone" resembles the real Lacus. No, not just in appearance, but in intelligence and personality, etc. We clearly see in the end of SEED that the real Lacus can be a very resourceful, manipulative, persuasive and charismatic person, a very good tactician and strategist nonetheless. Let's imagine, IF the real Lacus concludes that Athrun is necessary for her plan of saving the world, will she be able to convince Athrun to fight for her? I'd say yes. So if this "Lacus clone" has as much charm, intelligence, and persuasiveness as the real Lacus beside the physical appearance, I don't see why she won't be able to get Athrun to fight for her. Maybe she's smart enough that she won't try to get Athrun to her as a lover, maybe she'll play the little sister or whatever, and convince Athrun that it's the right thing to fight for her ideal or somehting...
That, of course, assumes that the Lacus clone theory is correct.
Just caught the Chinese sub. Kind of amusing to me but is it some sacred tradition that every Gundam series has to start off with a surprise attack on someplace?
At least Cagalli and Athrun are together - at the start. Cagalli x Athrun go go!
Anyway, I guess you guys know what was happening. Some ... "non-spoilers": Cagalli is the new Head of State for Orb. Apparently, PLANT is rearming again after the ceasefire and the signing of the new treaty, so Cagalli is here to find out why - and also in addition, PLANT is apparently continuing utilizing the technology initially developed by Orb so that is making her uncomfortable too and the EA is putting pressure on her to put pressure on PLANT.
Gilbert (the long dark-haired man - PLANT's new leader? Looks like it) rebutts her by saying isn't Orb rearming itself and expanding and improving its armed forces. He adds on saying while peace is all fine and dandy, military strength is also a deterrent against war. Cagalli has no response and all this talking happens while they are touring the base.
Then, the three new psychoes, including that new blonde babe, (is that Stellar you guys are talking about?) strike and steal the Gundams. It looks like there is an EA conspiracy going on - or either that the PLANT base is riddled with spies.
I get the idea that Orb as a nation is pretty much the go-between between the two sides -. Athrun is probably her bodyguard.
There are snapshots of various other characters who will probably have some part to play. Like that slender long blond-haired guy who looks too feminine for my tastes. :heh:
The Minerva is the battleship in the background, and Shin is surprisingly, a fully trained pilot. I guess they got tired with the old cliche of the hero not being a military trained person in the first place. :heh:
I am kinda tired of them going back to basics - I hope they bring out Freedom and Justice to show what real nuclear-powered mobile suits are. :p
I should add my own :twitch: to the Lacus clone theory. I'm going to throw the GSD writers into a big prison cell along with the Otogizoushi writers and torture them if they do that.... BAH.
Also, I forgot to say this earlier, but HELL I wouldn't imagine that Shinn's voice actor voiced Rakushun in Juuni Kokki...
Just watched the episode, and I liked it a lot.
Only thing that really bothered me was the long joining sequence of the Impulse... I didn't like it in Victory Gundam, and I doubt I will much enjoy it here. Hope they keep the merge sequences short.. a couple of seconds will do.
Read somewhere that the 3 members that stole the gundams were druggies like in the first Seed.
I dont mind attempts at using drugs to enhance human abilities... as long it doesn't turn into something similar to the artificial newtype stupidity of Zeta Gundam's Four Murasame, or Rosamia Badamu episodes. Lets not have 10 episodes of one of the protagonists falling in love with a druggie.. and refuse to kill her. It certainly didn't invoke any sympathy (not for Four, and certainly not for the moronic Camille) from me in Zeta Gundam.. and it wont here.
The three druggies from the first Seed (death row inmates released on the condition of their alleigance) were handled perfectly. Hope its handled like that here as well....
Somehow I dont think its going to be pretty as Stellar goes insane and pleads for more drugs... Makes for an interesting series though :)
Have high hopes for the show.

.
Digressing for a moment, I felt Four was a character you could sympathize with. Near the end of Zeta, I thought it was needless to kill off Four just for the sake of killing her off. It resembled in too many parts the ending of the first Gundam series which came before it. Perhaps it was because I watched Zeta right after finishing off the original Gundam series that I had that thought.

well, obviously a lot of people like the Four Murasame and Camille relationship a lot... I think Four Murasame has quite a high popularity for past Gundam's female characters... So maybe they'll recreate that scene here... or maybe they'll somehow make Stellar get rid of the drugs if she proves to be popular enough... :eyebrow:

Blaat, brightman's answer should be sufficient but I will add some more. It is true we will learn when the show goes on but there will be too much information we will not learn unless we read the official publications. Since most of us cannot read Japanese so who will read that for us even we have them on hands.
For example, in two spoiler tags below are runpsicat's translations of Cyclops and Gungnir Systems from my old scans that you will not learn from Gundam SEED unless you read Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Official File/Mechanics Vol. 3.
Scanning needs effort, translating needs greater effort, making a fansubs episode need more efforts and hands. But viewing a scan just needs a mouse click, reading translations needs few blinks of one's eyes, and downloading just needs a mouse click. They are obviously easy when you do not do things.
Translations of SEED DESTINY preliminaly information from Gundam Ace and Newtype have been around at some websites but what I have provided here are the scans from the first OFFICIAL book. Why not see what they say officially?
runpsicat did not turn down my request then giving her a few sentences of courage and applause is that too much to offer?

*Disclaimer* I am not an editor! Please don't shoot me if the grammar seems off.
Upper Right:
Nuclear weapons cannot be used due to Neutron Jammers. However, the military continues to seek weapons of mass destruction that are capable of destroying an entire unit and/or an entire city in a single instant. Let us now examine these next generation weapons of mass destruction that were created as a result of such desires.
Main Article:
Research 8 - Comparison of Two "Super Weapons"
Cyclops System
The underground inferno that incinerates everything. (More literally, "at the bottom of the Earth" or "abyss".)
The Cyclops: It is a weapon of mass destruction that is notorious for incinerating an entire city during a battle waged on the lunar surface. Its modus operandi is simple. It unleashes microwaves and specifically ablates (incinerates) surrounding life forms. Since microwaves are part of the Electromagnetic Spectrum, they are also inhibited by N-Jammers. However, this resulted in limiting the Cyclops' effective range and merely led to its development as a strategic weapon that was "clean" and easy to implement.
1 - Deployment of Decoy Troops
The Earth Alliance first needed to lure as much of the ZAFT forces as possible within the Cyclops' effective range without raising any suspicions. Thus, the Alliance allocated a very large force to defend their base.
Left Caption - The decoy troops remained unaware of the Cyclops since the Alliance had also planned to get rid of their own troops that were a nuisance.
Right Caption - Heading towards the heart of the Earth Alliance, The ZAFT troops advance deep into the Alaska Base. Giddy with victory, they have no idea that they are heading into a trap spelling certain death.
2 - Transmission of the Activation Signal
The signal was transmitted moments before the ETA for the fall of the Alaska base when it was predicted that many ZAFT troops had been lured within the Cyclops' effective range. Transmitted as a digitally encrypted sonic signal, the Alliance chose this primitive method because it was the safest way to transmit the signal in waters that were affected by the N-Jammer.
Right caption - The signal-transmitting "suitcase" comes in a set of two that cannot be activated unless two separate keys (carried by different individuals) are turned at the same time. This is to prevent activation based on the decision of a single individual.
3 - Ablation/Incineration
These numerous parabolic antennas can be said to constitute the main "body" of the Cyclops. The microwaves they generate are geared to oscillate and heat water. The human body is destroyed by this rapid heating process since water constitutes approximately 60% of the human body.
Top Row, Left Caption - The fully activated Cyclops. It will remain active until it is destroyed by the radiation heat generated by the Cyclops'microwaves.
Top Row, Middle Caption - The Mobile Suits and other machines exploded since their equipped fuel and artillery were heated by the Cyclops. Even though water is absent in these substances, heating will still occur to a certain degree.
Top Row, Right Caption - Towards the end, even underground structures began to destruct. While the Cyclops has little effect on building materials, they are effectively destroyed by radiation heat.
Bottom Row, Left Caption - The water in the body boil upon exposure to microwaves, and an "explosion" results as the water vapor bursts through the skin. This ZAFT soldier was dead long before reaching that stage.
Bottom Row, Right Caption - The area surrounding the Alaska base was incinerated by microwaves. While it may look completely barren, the degree of pollution due to radiation is low; the ecosystem has sustained minimal damage.
Comment: Don't trees also consist of water to a substantial degree...? And, wouldn't the moisture continent/balance in the soil be severely disrupted? How is the ecosystem spared by using this weapon...??

Whee! ^_^
Gungnir System
The Divine Spear of Electrons That Destroys Weapons
The Gungnir is a weapon that utilizes a powerful electromagnetic pulse (EMP) to selectively destroy electronic components without harming the human body. However, if it is a normal EMP, the weapon can be circumvented by using a simple shield to protect electric circuits. In outer space, where the Sun may explosively emit EMPs, such shields are an absolute necessity. However, the strength of Gungnir's EMP is an order of magnitude greater (or just "a lot" greater) such that it can only be deflected by a specialized shield. Since the Earth Alliance did not know of Gungnir's existence, they were defeated by ZAFT forces.
1 - Ejection
The capsule descends from orbit immediately after the invading troops establish a foothold in enemy territory. Since on-site work is required, the capsule cannot descend simultaneously with the invading troops. (Note: this rationale doesn't really make sense to me... but it's what the article says ^_^; )
Left Caption - To transport the Gungnir through space, they attached the Gungnir capsule to a connector module that had been added to the lower portion of a Laurasian-class ship's descent capsule module.
Middle Caption - Code input is carried out by a DINN. The existence of Mobile Suits was an important premise in the development of Gungnir as a weapon.
Right Caption - [Gungnir After Setup] EMP was originally known as a phenomenon that occurred in the aftermath of a nuclear explosion. To create an EMP, the Gungnir rapidly destroys a special piezoelectric element that can only be manufactured in space. The resultant EMP has a strength that is of a hereto unknown magnitude.
2 - Setup
After touchdown, the Gungnir isn't ready yet for activation and requires the DINN to make additional settings. Since these steps (including setup of ignition units) can occur in combat situations, such a feat is only possible by Mobile Suits.
3 - Activation
Gungnir's piezoelectric elements are instantaneously destroyed via ignition units placed around the element. This implosion method is the same one used to ignite atomic bombs (instead of the half-hearted description of the said method in the text, I think I'll just link this site).
Upper Row Caption: The moment Gungnir was ignited. The ignition was synchronized and instantaneous.
Lower Row, Left Caption: Electronic equipment is annihilated by the EMP-induced electric surge. Panama's central command lost all of its function in a single instant.
Lower Row, Right Caption: Panama's military facilities explode. The excess current generated by the EMP probably induced explosions in the fuse of ammunition stored in bunkers.
4 - Sweep/Extermination of Surviving/Remaining Enemy Forces
Due to Gungnir, the Earth Alliance's weapons are now useless (lit. immobile). However, that does not mean the end of warfare. The victorious ones hunt down the survivors, and the defeated ones struggle to survive. The war between humans continues.
Upper Row Caption: A DINN destroying a tank that has surrendered. Many of the ZAFT soldiers who joined the assault on Panama were survivors of the battle in Alaska and thus harbored a deep hatred towards the Allied forces.
Lower Row, Left Caption: A dead Alliance soldier. The fate of these soldiers after Gungnir's activation was a harsh/cruel one.
Lower Row, Right Caption: Alliance soldiers who surrendered in entire units. However, fixated on revenge, ZAFT soldiers refused to take POWs. Ignoring the laws of war (~Geneva Convention), they exterminated the surrendering soldiers.
__________________________________________________ _____________________
Inset Mini-Article:
The Ultimate Strategic Target: The Mass Driver
The Mass Driver: the most critical strategic target in this war. Its principles will be discussed in the glossary that begins on the following page.
In addition, since the Mass Driver's rails are constructed of superconductive material, they generate a strong magnetic field when exposed to EMPs. The rails then succumb to pressure generated by their own magnetic fields. As discussed in the glossary, however, the Mass Driver is a valuable facility/asset. Why did ZAFT destroy it?
ZAFT probably did not have enough manpower left to occupy Panama over the long term, even if they did have enough to win this particular battle. As a result, they opted to destroy the Mass Driver rather than to risk its use by the Alliance. Their decision makes sense in that context. Put another way, ZAFT's defeat in Alaska was so damaging as to force that decision on their part.

I am puzzled why Athrun returned to ZAFT though (refer to ending).
Think you're just referring to him wearing his Zaft pilot uniform, but I'd point out that he wore that throughout Gundam Seed as well even after leaving Zaft. He definetly appears to be fighting alongside the others from the images in the OP but it may just be a temporary alliance between Orb and Zaft to recover the Gundams or something.

is the voice actor that plays the chairman the same voice actor as kenshin's master? sounds sorta similar...
. Also his Gundam twin sabers is pretty cool looking. ^^
Those are actually twin Anti-Ship Swords. Can be used in close combat but by combining them at the ends like the Impulse does it would probably difficult to swing them - it would be better to either keep them separated, one in each hand, or combining them by the side like the Sword Calamity does - and Sword Calamity IS more or less the Sword Impulse.
Ah... chairman, do you mean Patrick Zala? His seiyuu is Kinryuu Arimoto. He was not in Rurouni Kenshin.
If you mean Siegel Clyne, he was voiced by Yousuke Akimoto who was also no tin Rurouni Kenshin.
If you mean Uzumi Nala Attha, he was voiced by Toru Okawa, who was also not in Rurouni Kenshin. (he voices Roy Mustang in FMA)
If you mean George Allster, he was voiced by Toshihiko Seki, again not from RK.
Seijuro Hiko's seiyuu is Shuuichi Ikeda, who played Char Aznable in Gundam (the original) and also Gilber Dullindal in Gundam Seed Destiny.
I'm assuming you mean Japanese voice actors, of course
At least Cagalli and Athrun are together - at the start. Cagalli x Athrun go go!
I hope they'll be together forever!
But in the opening.. Lacus.. Noooo~ *sigh*

woops let me be more specific, i'm talking about the chairman in gs destiny. the guy that looks like athrun but with long hair, who talks with cagalli.
I couldn't sympathize with her at all, unfortunately. She was one of the few characters that I felt needed to be shot in the face repeatedly (along with the kids and Katsu). I wont even go into how horrendous and lame I thought Zeta Gundam's ending was... but rest assured that my disappointment knew no end when she showed up again around episode 36 (episode called Dakar's Day I believe) or so in Jamitov Haiman's little research lab. I wasn't really struck by any similarities beween Lalah Sun's death and her's however. I found Lalah's death much better in the MSG movies.
well, obviously a lot of people like the Four Murasame and Camille relationship a lot... I think Four Murasame has quite a high popularity for past Gundam's female characters... So maybe they'll recreate that scene here... or maybe they'll somehow make Stellar get rid of the drugs if she proves to be popular enough...
Yes.. my tastes usually dont coincide with the majority. For example, old school Gundam fans usually cite Zeta as being the "best" Gundam series. (mixed among them are many individuals who cite it as best without having even seen it....but I wont go into that) I certainly didn't think much of Zeta.. and yes I've watched every single episode.. twice as a matter of fact.
I doubt the drug dependency can just be eliminated that easily. I remember how pitiful the three druggies in Seed got when denied their regular supplies. From the opening it looks like Stellar and Shin might be paired up romantically. Hence my worries that we might have Shin being hesistant to kill Stella and try to 'save' her. Besides, the Seed director might not always give in to popularity. I'm sure Fraga was one of the most popular characters.. and he sure didn't make it out of the first series.
But you might be right.. never know. One thing is certain, I cannot wait for episode 2 :)
Ahhh, the guy from Zaft? Then you've hit bullseye, that is Gilbert Dullindal, who is indeed voiced by Seijuro Hiko (Kenshin's master)'s seiyuu.
EDIT: THe original thread this was in got spliced into this. Hmm.
HaRoRuleZ your point made it quite clear and I apologize for my inresponsible behaviour. At that moment I thought it seemed a bit too early and useless to post information of the characters.
Another note, the first episode didn't really do it for me. Am I the only one here who thinks that Gaia Gundam (the one that transforms in that Bacue right?) transforms way too fast. Is it even possible for something that large to transform so fast can the machinery even handle such things? Furthermore why did they have Ikeda Shuuichi do the role of Gilbert Dullindal? Everytime I'm seeing Char when I hear him talk and as final do the Gundams really needed to be stolen; can't we do something else?
Oh well cannon fodder mechas are still destroyed in one shot and I thought the suits were now supposed to be after quality :p The battles were good, but not fluent they seem to skip images. Atleast some of the characters are interesting and the voice acting is so far fantastic but that's something you can never complain in a Gundam ;)
Only thing that really bothered me was the long joining sequence of the Impulse... I didn't like it in Victory Gundam, and I doubt I will much enjoy it here. Hope they keep the merge sequences short.. a couple of seconds will do.
Atleast V Gundam handled the entire core system correctly by making the joining sequence so fragile. Here it seems more like ZZ, where I loathed the entire sequence.
Curious though avmoghe what is your favourite Gundam?
Well, we have yet to see whether Destiny's joining process has the same fragility as V Gundam's process did. We've only seen it happen once so far.
I personally wouldn't be fond of it even if it was shown as a very fragile process.
Here is a ranking of Gundams I've seen in their entirety.
In descending order:
My ranking so far.
1.) Gundam Seed
2.) MSG movies
3.) 0083
4.) 0080
5.) Victory Gundam
6.) Zeta Gundam
7.) Char's Counterattack
8.) MS Team
9.) Gundam Wing - Endless Waltz
10.) Gundam Wing
I'm sure plenty of people disagree with my ranking... which is fine by me.
*I haven't included G Gundam in it since I dont judge series until I've seen them completely (but if the first 6 episodes were any indication, it would go at the very bottom of the ranking)

Well, SEED's transformations are all quick like that if you didn't notice... Aegis and Raider transformed extremely quickly too. Then again, mecha in CE moves much quicker and action tend to be a much quicker pace (which is why I doubt the Impulse's combination sequence will take this long in future episodes).
Do I need to watch Gundam Seed in order to understand Gundam Seed Destiny?
Probably... Depends on how much it concentrates on the CE 71 events. It's a sequal, but its also featuring mainly a new cast so if you really want to watch it I think you should be able to watch this...
*I haven't included G Gundam in it since I dont judge series until I've seen them completely (but if the first 6 episodes were any indication, it would go at the very bottom of the ranking)
Well, in G Gundam's case its really unfair to judge it from the first six episodes... You only get a glimpse of the storyline in Ep 6, and the storyline doesn't start until Ep 15 or so, and it really intensify by the last 10 episodes.
Of course, if you can't stand the Super Robot-y feel then its not for you.
I hope they do the transformations as fast as Gaia was done in ep1 in the future. Something like what the Impulse did was way too long (especially since the whole transformation didn't seem to serve any purpose).
Didn't serve any purpose?
Dude, I bet the Bandai executives are extremely happy with how many kids wanted Impulse toys due to that.
Oh well cannon fodder mechas are still destroyed in one shot and I thought the suits were now supposed to be after quality The battles were good, but not fluent they seem to skip images. Well Blaat, to be fair most of the destroyed new units like the improved GuAIZ and Assault GINN:s were still in their hangars, and it was a real surprise attack in a situation where it's very difficult to mount an effective resistance - especially against their own high-powered units. You could see how a GuAIZ tried to use its rail guns at Chaos but it simply bounced off the Phase-Shift - or it might have bounced of the shield, I'm not certain.
Most of the other deployed units that were destroyed were either GINN's, CGUE's and even a DINN.
I'm sure that in a ordinary combat situation the new GuAIZ would prove to be much more effective against anything that hasn't got a pilot with a name.

Do I need to watch Gundam Seed in order to understand Gundam Seed Destiny?
It would certainly help, but I imagine you can follow it alright without it (maybe you'l be lost 10% of the time) but it would certainly ruin Seed for you. Of course, if you're reading too many of these topics we've plobably already ruined a good deal of Seed for you. :heh:
I hope they do the transformations as fast as Gaia was done in ep1 in the future. Something like what the Impulse did was way too long (especially since the whole transformation didn't seem to serve any purpose).
Actually, I have thought of one purpose to the thing. The individual components seem to be able to move at a faster rate of speed than the entire suit combined would seem capable. So it does serve a purpose of faster long range deployment, but that's countered with it's vulnerability during the transformation. Really needs to transform close to the battle as opposed to right in the midst of it, course in ep1 he had to assist Athrun so maybe that's why he waited so long. (okay obviously it was for dramatic effect but eh...)

Personally, I would also put Wing at the bottom. Near the bottom I would also have Turn A because it was totally meaningless (even though it had a great soundtrack) and I could not comprehend what was going on in the first place. :heh:
Anyway, if you look at Universal Century and SEED, the difference is that the latter now would definitely appeal to the younger generation of today. Its more fast paced, there is less dialouge and significantly less angst. The only significant beef I had is with the character designs - I'm sure they allow the guy all the freedom he has, but do they have an editor to vet the damn things when they come off his drawing board? Gosh, talk about having clones (Kira and Shin look too much like each other)
I wonder if Bandai/Sunrise are going to spin another SEED-based saga like they did with Universal Century. I can hear all the Kira=Amuro and Kira=Char jokes already... :heh:

I guess it's not necessary to watch SEED to understand SEED Destiny. But maybe it can help you enjoy SEED Destiny much more, since it seems a LOT of characters from SEED is making a comeback... like "wow Athrun you have a nice pair of sunglasses!" or something :p
I hope they can make the Impulse launch as transformed in future episodes... I like the modular transformation idea, especially when it's used to dodged shots or surprise enemies or doing crazy moves, but they should understand that launch a piece at a time and transform thing is no longer that popular nowadays... I think they should get the idea given the result of the "favorite MS in the first episode of SEED Destiny" poll, when Impulse couldn't even make into the top 10...

Actually, from what I've read from various members of the design staff, SEED is pretty much completely run by the producers and Fukuda... There's really no freedom and Hirai just draws pretty much what those guys tell him to draw. Otherwise you'd be seeing much more of a variation I'd think (look at how diverse his designs are in Infinite Ryvius).

Despite having a large stock of RAWs but I just went through the entire episode for the second time after the TV broadcast with U-F&YO's fansubs version. The translations are fine IMO but the subs at some points can be cut and spreaded.
I am very satisfied with Impulse's docking sequences. Good to see them clearly for the first time (next time may be 1 second animation). I like to note that the phase shift armor (or whatever) is turned on once the force silhouette is attached which means the battery pack is in it the same way as aile strike pack. If I were a mobile suit pilot I can slash or shot either chest flyer or leg flyer down because of NO ARMOR.

This is getting a little freaky....
yup, my mistake, I re-watched it a few more times and indeed it's Kira. the light is playing tricks to my eyes, but there's a moment when the white light shines on his hair directly, it turns brown for a moment.
Pretty interesting that the intermission contains no main character from SEED Destiny, but the main characters of SEED... hmm... I'm actually thinking that maybe Lacus will have much more role in SEED Destiny than SEED. She was supposed to be the female lead of SEED but she got pitifully little screen time for a main character... :eyespin:

No, the one that uses a scythe (very impractical) and has the mirage colloid anti-beam defense is Forbidden - Calamity is the artillery mech.
Sword Calamity is a variation - Calamity is X-131 whilst Sword Calamity is X-133.

Ah, well, I feel obligated to respond to this thread as a rabid Gundam SEED fangirl . . . and all I've got to say is that they have a very promising start. I'd say it's definitely a more interesting start than Gundam SEED . . . I thought the start was a bit predictable for SEED. :heh: I personally quite happy that Athrun and Cagalli gets lotsa screen time, although I'd LIKE to see Lacus some time in there . . . and see what dress they put her in this time . . . although if the ED's any indication, it may not be one I'd want to do for cosplay . . . a bit too showy for me. :P
But back onto the topic of ep 1, etc, etc, etc. First and foremost, I thought the scene where Athrun drops Cagalli into the Zaku (is that a Zaku? I never DID watch much of the UC storyline) was a bit reminiscent of ep 1 where Murrue shoves Kira into Strike in SEED. And Impulse . . . that just screamed Mobile Suit Gundam . . . if I remember correctly, the original Gundam had a multi-part assembly thing going . . . starting with a core fighter, etc, etc, etc. I liked how they tied in Shin's past to SEED, that was nice, although it was a bit fanfic-ish the way they did it . . . almost sounds like something you'd find on say, fanfiction.net or something :P But I'm not complaining; I like what I see so far. I'm not quite ready to say anything on the plot yet . . . kinda hard after just ONE ep. :P
And on a slightly different note . . . any Maaya Sakamoto fans out there? She's in this ep (I think she's the girl in the humvee like, 5 minutes), has a few lines, I don't think we get her name yet at this point. :heh: But this site (http://maayasakamoto.net) says that the name of her character is Lunamaria Hawke. Hmmm . . . I wonder if she'll get to sing any of the OP/EDs for Destiny? It'd be really cool, in my opinion, if she does . . .

I just got finished watching it. I get a good sence from the 1st ep that it'll keep me very intertained over the coarse of the show.
BUT i have one major cualm. Shin's Gundam sucks. I hate how its Multi-piece. I like how the other ones transform into something different, but I hate that multi-piece system. To me it takes up way to much time for just to piece it together. I dont see any advatages in doing this. When its all together though it does look nice. A little simple but nice. I just hope that he gets a nuclear powered Gundam later one that would be nice ^_^.

But hell we've been making Zeta Gundam comparisons for awhile since Seed was was to be the 'new MS Gundam' for Bandai in the Cosmic Era, it definitely looks like Destiny has a Zeta-ish vibe to it. It has such a LARGE CAST.

In additional to the real Lacus, another character Tanaka Rie may very well voice in Gundam SEED Destiny is the fake Lacus.
A rumor currently circulating in Japan is that the fake Lacus is named Kizuna Kousaka. I first came across the name a few months ago in one of the many Gundam SEED Destiny rumors that were floating around at the time.
Kizuna strongly resembles Lacus, but has deep blue hair instead of pink hair. Kizuna's hair has been dyed pink in order for Kizuna to impersonate Lacus.

In V it was fast, efficient and had a purpose. In Destiny it isn't neither yet, but it'll probably become more like the Victories. They'd better - Victory pieces were shot down sometimes whilst they were sent down, so the same thing could happen here, and the Victory was both smaller and most likely much less expensive considering how long the technology has been available, as well as not having an expensive Phase-Shift system like the use in CE.

A GuAIZ was at the level of a first-generation GAT-X machine like Duel or Buster except that they lacked Phase-Shift. The GuAIZ R, featured in Destiny, is both faster, more maneuverable and better armed. The GuAIZ R is, until the deployment of the five new ZGMF-X units and the Zaku units, the best mobile suit in active deployment. Since the Zaku's are supposed to in time phase even these out they are probably several degrees better than the first five GAT-X units - who were after all rushed prototypes, with Blitz and Aegis for example featuring entirely new technology on top of the Phase-Shift armor.
Remember that PS armor isn't the end all of Gundam armor - it drains power which could otherwise be preserved for weapons. Sure, the battery technology has increased and they can recharge batteries from a distance but it's not the same as endless Phase-Shift enjoyed by the nuclear powered units and it isn't nearly as effective as Trans Phase-Shift. Also, remember that it just stops ballistic weaponry - beam weapons slice through it like butter. The only reason that the new units are even equipped with the technology is to ensure their dominance over ballistic ordinance, which is still widespread - the GuAIZ R has two rail guns for example, and the Abyss has four cannons as well as its very impressive armament of ten beam cannons.
Phase-Shift is only used because of the desired protection against ballistic ordinances since the rail guns in the Cosmic Era are really, REALLY bad mofo's. If CE had been like UC, were minovsky-based megaparticle beam weaponry became the main use they would have gone they same way with stripping away armor, decreasing MS size and increasing maneuverability. The Assault armor used on the Victory II Gundam was destroyed by hand-carried anti-armor rockets for example; Not very durable, just there to give some extra protection against things like that.
Conclusion: The Duel is not used because the new line of MS units in ZAFT - the GuAIZ and Zaku - are simply better. A GuAIZ is faster and nimbler in close-combat, and surely a Zaku is as well and both units are better armed, have more speed ande are just plain better. You'd be a fool if you would try to use a RX-78 in Zeta against the newer designs fielded during the Gryps War - it simply wouldn't last. By the end f MSG the Gelgoogs even matched it in some areas and exceeded it in others while the Galbaldy Alpha was simply better than the Gundam. Same thing in SEED with GuAIZ and Duel.
I hope Anime-Kingdom comes out with their release soon, this first joint release pains me as an Encoder ^^;; 232mb for a 24fps episode is just wasteful x_X And I think its funny that a group is jointing that hasnt done anything before (at least thats listed on Animesuki, which means if they did do something it was probably licensed anime or something like that...)
That, and their translation is terrible. Not surprising for a speedsub though, I guess.
Sure, it's no fun that he didn't get a refitted Duel, but want to know why they use Zakus instead?
Because they are better.
Exactly. Duel being the oldest of the first generation Gundams was obsolete before SEED had even ended, let alone two years later.
The Zaku doesn't appear to be just weak cannon fodder either, since it's the only suit in the opening episode to show any ability to stand up to a Gundam face to face (although having a major character in the cockpit would play a part in that, heh)
:heh:
Just want to clarify... I didn't want to give off the impression that I consider Seed to be flawless by putting it on my #1 spot. I have plenty of issues with Seed which I would like to have fixed in Destiny -
1.) Less whining by the main character. (should be fixed by main character change)
2.) No reused animation.
3.) A clear and concise explanation of Seed mode.
4.) No recap episodes / over-used flashbacks.
Despite all its flaws I still prefer Gundam Seed over the Universal Century shows like Zeta or Victory. The primary reason for my preference was episodes 34-50 of Seed ... none of the other shows got me quite as excited, or had better action scenes as the last third of Seed.
Of course, my hate for the concept of newtypes..(people communicating with Ghosts and borrowing their powers).. also tilts my judgement in favor of Seed.
Needless to say, Seed has much better animation, and music as well.
I agree with you, however, about the Kira, Shin confusion.... hopefully the context of the scene will help us viewers differentiate between the two if their appearance doesn't.

It's pretty bad. Complex dialogue is a mess, and even things said in English are subbed wrong at times.
It's an AJ level speedsub. Watchable, but I'll be replacing it with someone elses release as soon as ones out.

Well, maybe if people close to you get blown and crush into bits like that you'd think that you'd be a "sissy" too, don't you think?
Anyway, from what they've shown I really doubt that Shinn will be as emotionally weak as Kira was... After seeing what he did two years ago, I really don't think there's much that can faze him anymore.
Man, is Athrun just really unsatisfied with Cagalli or something? All this talk about him running off with Lacus or a fake Lacus, and he even stops to check out Stellar for a bit in the first ep.
For whatever reason, that really gets me thinking that Cagalli is going to bite it.
I disagree with you on this, obviously Athrun looks at Stellar cause he thinks she is suspicious, and if you notice athrun look the way those 3 are attacking and grabbing the gundams as if his sences tells him something is up, He also states that he wont let her die in a place like this later in the episode.
and how they Cagalli and Athrun looks at eachother tells me they prolly love eachother.
Take Care
Sakaki-
So many replies in this thread. Don't think I can read em' all. But hmm..my comments on Seed Destiny. I agree that Shinn is probably not as emotionally weak as Kira. Plus he's a formal soldier and from the looks of it, an avenger so I don't think he'll mind killing people. I never really minded Kira's screaming and crying though, lol.
And I like Athrun's shades. But really now ... such a pathetic disguise (well it's better then him wearing a plastic bag over his head but ya know...doesn't make sense that no one can recongize him)
How many groups are working on this series btw? Anyone recomend which group to download? I understand the raw, but my roommate doesn't, and I'm trying to get something that we can watch together, because she already seen the first Seed and like to see this too. :)

No, from what he said, he just thought that wearing such mundane clothes would lower her status, since she's supposed to be the top Orb official now... Of course, Cagalli hates wearing dresses, so... :heh:
And like Sakaki said, Athrun seemed suspicious of Stellar, and he looked that way too.
BTW, anyone noticed that Rey is holding something in his hand in the ED? Like a MASK or something? And he seems to be wearing Creuset's purple pilot suit from Ep 49-50 of SEED too...

When the RAW was released, i watched it like 3 times and loved it.
now that it's subbed... i have to say, Tomino consulting really DOES show.
"Having too much Power is like asking for conflict"
"No, Princess. Since there will never be an end to all conflict, power is always neccesary"
that quote alone makes this better than SEED.

Well, I guess I do prefer that quote over the "It's not enough to have either the heart or the sword. You need to have BOTH the heart and the sword" quote from the first SEED.... Since it makes more sense... :heh:
We need a sub forum for Gundam Seed Destiny, or just a Gundam one would rule...
*points to quote in sig* that one makes the most sense :)

Where are you guys PULLING these quotes from?
PS I perfer the first one...because it says you just can't have power, you must also have the faith and will. One without the other is useless, you can have power, but if you don't have the faith or will to use it you got nothing. You can have the will to do something, but without power to do it, it's junk.
and although power is good, having too much can be a bad thing, remember 'absolute power corrupts' because humans are weak :)
Anyways WHERE DID THESE QUOTES COME FROM?

I think an entire section for the Gundam series is an excelent idea. Personally, reading this thread is a bit confusing for me, since I only finished 0083, Turn A, Seed, Wing so far. And I have no clue what Murasame, Victory or Zeta etc. What are they talking about? ^^;
I think multiple threads will be nice. ^^

Was Dearka demoted or what? Now that he wears the green uniform instead of the elite red uniform. I remembered in the after phase episode he still wore the red elite uniform, so it wasn't because he had defected to Lacus faction in the previous war?

Yup, you're right. A general Gundam forum would be great since talks in these threads almost always diverge into other Gundam series anyway.
Besides if we count all the Gundam threads in this message board I think we have more than enough to make a forum...
As for the quotes... Mine is the one that Uzumi and Lacus mentioned in SEED... And EV|RockLee's is from Ep 1 of Destiny. :)

I think bringing the Core Fighters into SEED is pretty useless as well. I mean, theres no strategic reason to split it up -- it only makes it more vulnerable when it comes together.

Kira didn't bother me because his "whining" made sense (having no military training or prepared mindset for fighting), though I see how it could have annoyed others. Shin does look like he's going to be more prepared, but it's gonna depend on the events. I'm sure he could still have some bad moments when/if he starts seeing his friends die around him.

Think they're waiting for more topics to be made for the series, though to be honest this topic alone is composed of something like a dozen different topics by itself.
ooook so no one smiled but me when fllay died >:) i guess im just odd then......... :fingers:
I never really hated Fllay, she made some (really) crappy decisions but in the end she was just a kid, hard to hate her when you consider the crappy events that happened to her in Seed.

Just be patient! The title of this thread (Phase 1 Discussion), which was modified by xris, indicates well enough that Gundam SEED (DESTINY) forum will be born to host every Phase discussion.

Personally I expect Shin to be way better than Kira. The end of ep1 shows that he clearly hates war, and he will not forgive anyone who tries to start a war. I doubt he'll ever be as whiny as Kira...

I haven't seen any UC elitists, but you must admit that the similarities between some characters and their fates currently due to speculation are quite many :P
Now I may prefer UC but that doesn't mean I didn't like and enjoy SEED and will hopefully do so with Destiny. The first episode was well over my expectations (which were rather low) even if it was way too similar to the first SEED - I would have preferred if they did it in some other way but it's fine right now.
And I cried when Flay died :(

To be fair according to my reputation I'm a "UC Fanboy" :P
Many who have watched V Gundam said the same thing.
Did they say the samething about ZZ?
Hmm...if I remembered correctly, the ending theme is "Reason"....Oh ya....Its true that Shinn may looked much more stronger and emotionally stable than Kira....but don't forget, he saw his parents got killed with his own eyes. How is he going to forget it that easily? Its true he hates war now, but because of that, he is now willing to go all out to deal with the person that starts a war. This in somehow a form of revenge I guess, and this is the complete opposite of what Kira believes. While Kira fights to protect his loved ones, Shinn now fights to kill whoever who wants to start a war. I don't think you can stop a war just by killing all your enemies though. Kira realised that the hard way.
I just thought of something....is it possible....for Shinn to one day while fighting accidentally killed some innocent people like what happened to Kira then when he was fighting in Orb? Hmm....
