They will probably just have more games that the others systems, altho with growing popularity maybe the companies will start making games for other companies systems since they are all disc based now...I still predict it will be the weakest of any of the systems that come out around that time, just as the PS2 is now...

Games make the system. The benchmark for this was the NES. The Sega Master System had much more muscle behind it (for back then anyway), and still Nintendo trounced it. We see this trend to this day with the current systems. Sure the Xbox has the power, but honestly... there isnt any games I would even consider buying for it sans Ninja Gaiden, and when it finally comes out hopefully they drop the price a bit.

They can...and they could also change the name...just imagine one day in the future...you'll be a proud owner of the Playstation 16......
Well...as long as Sony has all those 3rd party companies...their system will do fine...even if it is the ugliest thing on the face of this planet...
Take note that pretty much every concept photo of the PS3 (or any other new system) that you will see will be fake until about a few months before they actually launch the console, hence the term 'concept'. Although several of them may actually be the official concept from Sony themselves at the time, the actual console rarely ever looks anywhere near most depicted images.
Seeing how the speculated launch date is 2006, expect to see alot more of these. Here's some more:

wow....i noticed that many people act like PS2 is the worst thing there is....but face the facts PS2 has the best games out of all 3 major systems.
PS2: ZOE, ZOE2, Dynasty Warriors 4, Final Fantasy series, Xenosaga, etc
X-box: Halo and Ninja Gaiden seems to be the only ones.....
Gamecube: mostly kitty games i wouldnt take a 2nd look at but....pikmen, Naruto 2

Now...i'm not saying Sony is a bad company...but if Sony didn't have all the 3rd party companies it does now it wouldn't be as popular...
As for Gamecube...Nintendo itself has made many good games...and their main ones was done by themselves and not 3rd party companies....(the metroid series, mario series, and zelda series)

PS2 is popular because its favored by 3rd party companies, that's why Nintendo's GameCube isn't doing that well and why most of their "good" games, or games in general are theirs. That's why Sega's Dreamcast (may it RIP that wonderful system) began to die, because 3rd party companies pulled away from a "low selling" system and decided to focus their attention on the PS2. A good example was when Sierra pulled the plug on Half-Life for the Dreamcast just days before its release (the strat guides came out before the game. :heh: ) Its not about power or superiority, its about popularity and versatility, and selling potential, PS2's ability to play old PSX was a major sell for a lot of buyers, plus they already held the market for consoles with their original PSX. And PS2 has several benchmark games that made it even more worth buying it. Like most Squaresoft whores (I know its Square Enix now.) they merely bought it because of that companies endorsement. As long as major companies endorse this system, and the reserve-playing capabilities are still there, it will continue to dominate.
Great PS2 games: Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2, Metal Gear Solid: Substance, Jak I & II, Final Fantasy XI, Disgaea, Tekken 4, Virtua Fighter 4 + Evo, Medal of Honor, SNK King of Fighters bundle packs, Guilty Gear X & X2, Grand Terismo 3, Silent Hill 3, Tony Hawk series.
XBOX is now getting some console-exclusive games, such as Fable, Ninja Gaiden, before then mostly all their games were ports, so meaning if you could get it for the PS2/GameCube which you already own why buy an XBOX? Before then all they had was Shenmue II, & Halo pretty much, plus with their more in-tune XBOX Live subscription (I believe its play all the games for the XBOX for one flat-rate.) is giving companies more of an essentive to go towards the XBOX. Plus its also bullet-proof.

Ahh, there's no way a ps2 could be cat friendly. They don't see as many colors as a human does and they cannot see fine detail like text on the screen.

Maybe you don't realise it, but the name is what gets it to sell more units. C'mon, you think the "launch games" were SOOO GOOD to make ps2 sell as much as it did during launch? Well, I'm like you, but you cannot just dismiss the fact that people buy stuff due to the name associated with it. I hate playstation, but i own one, why, cuz i like some games available for it. But I can name 98% of people who bought it, just because its a "playstation".........but those are just mindless fanboys. Flame away fanboys......not like its going to help any of you.
If more people where like you and me, and thought about QUALITY, i think more xboxs and gamecubes would have been sold. But sadly, thats not the case.

Its a matter of opinion.....the games look is not what makes it kiddy, which most of you feel it does, its what the games theme and target goes for. Some even go to the limits as n64 and GC games are kiddy due to its color scheme, which is just stupid. Guess FFX or FFX-2 is JUST as kiddy in that aspect, with its flashy colors and all.

So you're saying because of its name, PS2 was dominate? Not because it had a DVD player...? Not the fact it had the ability to play PSX games...? The fact PSX was a household name (i.e. dominating the market)? Lets forget the fact that all the major game companies were throwing all their best games at PS2. So because someone at Sony was like "Hey lets just call it Playstation, and next one.... PLAYSTATION 2" someone went "BRILLANT". ? I'll you wut, as long my Zony Playland 2 plays my PLX games, I don't care what they call it. Seriously though, you are right, the name did sell, BUT it was NOT by far the driving force. During the first year of the PS2 I was working at what you could call a video game shop in the ghetto. I was selling PS2s like hotcakes, you know why? Sony took a great idea, and made it even better. What sold the PS2 was the fact it was three things in one. DVD player + PS2 + a PSX. You're getting 3 different functions for the price of a Gamecube that only has one, or an XBOX that had two. Hell people don't even prounce Playstation anymore, they merely say PS2. That's besides the point though. Thanks the PSX's domination and veriety of games for it, playing PSX games on the PS2 was a big-deal to a lot of low-income budge it people who wanted something cost efficient, yet state of the art, and they got that with the PS2.

True. But during the next gen wars (Saturn/PSX/N64) Nintendo was the OOPS company of that time (Surprising its not SEGA, isn't it?) because they made four major mistakes:
1.) Arrogance, "We don't need you Square.", then "We don't need you."
2.) Selective targeting... "Lets market it towards the children..... ONLY."
3.) Cartridges.
4.) Because of 3, the inablity to play SNES cartridges. (Sony learned from this.)
Although they released some mature games during their dying year/months (Conker, RE2 etc. etc.) they paid the price.
So like PSX being what it was, Nintendo's N64 being what is was... a children's gaming company, that's what the public image of the GameCube was, a next generation console tailored towards children. In my opinion, GameCube is kiddy, all you gotta do is look at the majority of the games, GameCube got lucky with their two RE games, and Metriod Prime wasn't kiddy either... but overall, its pretty much kiddy/port console. (I'm not counting Bloody Roar/SC2 and other games of that nature since they're all available for all systems. I'm talking system exculsive.)

Quality is all well and good, but if there aren't enough quality games (that a person would want to play) for a system, it's hard to justify buying a $150 console for just one or two games. I, myself, will eventually purchase an Xbox once the price lowers just to play Gaiden (having KOTOR for the PC already), and if any other games happen to catch my eye, I can pick them up in the bargain bin. Yet, the majority of the consumers out there are parents who, when posed with the request from thier child(ren) to buy a new system, would point to thier current console they just bought them two/three years ago (not to mention the 15+ games they purchased for it) and say "What's wrong with that one?" Sadly, this is how the whole 'fanboy' community starts, as the children have no other choice but to defend the only system they can get thier greesy little mitts on with juvenile scuttle. Until they are old enough to get a job and actually sink some money into the hobby, the fanboys will run wild.
Heck, I recently picked up a GC a few months ago simply due to the price cut, and I'm having a blast playing all of the so-called 'kiddy' games. The ease of playing imports helped me justify the purchase.
XBOX. Plus its also bullet-proof.

Expect all of the next generation consoles to have a built in Hard Drive of some sort or another. The cards will simply be used to transport saved game info to a friends house, or even to back up what ever it can fit off of the Hard Drive. It's almost a certainty they will increase the capacity of the cards... I can't see why they wouldn't. The technology is there in spades.
I will never make the mistake of buying a system because of the name recognition again cough cough *Nintendo 64*.
However The Gamecube is slowly making up for the Clusterf**k that was the N64.
PS2's definitly got the best library of games. But GameCube and X-box have good stuff too just not as much as the ps2. Luckily though I have all 3.

2 - Can you prove to me that they made those games to be towards kids...and dont tell me cause the games "look" kiddy and that they're focusing on pokemon and other stupid shit like that...unless teh games are sesame street, barney or teletubbies i wont consider them kiddy...
Ok, so i'll give a list of games and you tell me why their kiddy (n64 games cause that's the system your mostly talking about)...and i want valid reasons...again...not casue they look kiddy or cause pokemon is meant for kids...

3. Jet Force Gemini
4. Gauntlet Legends
5. Mischeif Makers
6. both Zelda games
7. Conkers and Perfect Dark...well everyone already knows those aint kiddy...
3 - yes that was a minor mistake making the games cartridges....but i think Nintendo still did a very good job making the games...they're just as good as the psx ones...in gameplay and graphics...the only thing it might not have is the cg scenes...and to me it's not taht big a loss...
4 - and why is that important? I dont care if it played snes cartridges...that's what the snes was for....and your comparing the ps2 to the 64.....those are from 2 different years.....you should be comparing the psx to the 64....in which case...none of them were backwards compatible so there's no problem there....

BRAVO Jubei. My mistake on the kiddy spelling at first but Jubei made a very very VERY good point. I have one more point to make though. I think a principal reason in the quality* difference since some ppl think PS2 is so inferior is because of its release dates. PS2 came out before all other systems such as Xbox and Gamecube. The fact that they came out like half a year or more earlier means that their technology was that much out dated. But at the same time they were the most innovative since they set an example for xbox and gamecube makers.
Also like Jubei said, most games that are not Kiddy games on the Gamecube were taken from other systems or pcs. Although Xbox has very original games (mostly anywayz) they still have too few games, thus encouraging more ppl to buy PS2.
Edit: superchops if you dont think games like pokemon stadium isnt childish tell me one teenager at least to prove to me that any one of over 14 plays that kind of game. The fact that the name Pokemon or Digimon is already aimed at children up to 12 years old shows that the game was based for its FANS up to 12 years old.

Which ones? The only one that comes to mind is Bloody Roar...but that wasn't sony's....it was a third party company that did that....

One point first, for those of you who think the name PS3 is bad.....what the hell do you think about Final Fantasy 12????? Or even MGS1 and 2 and Xenosaga I and II. In my opinion names dont really matter.

2. your comparing two completely different things...games...and the system...now tell me...how are you gonna compare the 2 and give it valid reasons for the comparison? I dont care about games having numbers because if it's popular then more then likely it'll have numbers in their titles...now game systems are a different story...it's not like a new system comes out as frequently as games do so there's really no need to give it numbers...and i never said anything all that bad about the number...all i said is that they could of come up with a better name then taking the lazy way out and just adding the next number up to the same exact name...

See, I agree with most of what you say. But everything I said was towards the ignorant fanboys who have no sound judgement to their claims rather then misdirected opinions. So don't take what I said against you, because I agree with your post.
See, yes, the ps2 is good because it does play psx games. But did most people buy it because of that? Most of them owned a psx already. I loved that about the ps2, but can you say that most 'fanboys' do? For fanboys, or these 'hype gamers', the only "cool" console is the newest one. What I mean by that is simple, newer is better.....in otherwords, they totally dismiss the old console just because theres a new one. Basically what I'm tring to get at is, that most of them can care LESS about psx games as they have ps2 to take their time. But when the time comes, just to bash any other system, they bring that up, so they basically just being hypocrits. They can care less about it, but when it benefits them they use it, get me? Like another comparison. GBA and NES. Mario 3 for nes, if you ask these new gamers, they'll be like "oh mario 3 sucks, it was on nes, thats SOO old..." but now its on GBA, meaning its new....so what happens about their claim on mario 3....."oh mario 3 is SOOO cool". Hopefully you see what I'm getting at.
By what you said, I can tell you don't fall into any of thse caterogies, thus don't take my post towards you, I hope now I see what I ment before. I'm a true gamer, I play games to enjoy them, not to claim its better then the previous one just because its "newer" or on a newer system.
A systems LIBRARY is what makes it great, not the system. Like I said, I hate ps2, but I own one, why because of its library. I got a gamecube, do I claim its better then ps2, no.....but again I like it because it has games i WANT. I don't own an xbx and why? It has nothing to do with is being from MS, but I just don't feel like having something else collect dust and take bites out of my wallet.
When fanboys realize any of this, maybe then I won't bash them so much. But until they stop making stupid statements such as...."my X system is better then Y cuz X's maker SUCKS" and use some reasoning, then maybe the world would be better.

I've stopped following video games since "my brand" Sega stopped the DC. :upset: How long has it been since the PS2-GameCube-Xbox thing started? Is it high time for a replacement? I'm simply not impressed with the graphics on the systems these days, they just aren't that much of an improvement over the DreamCast, and PC's are really getting far past them.

I gotta agree with whoever said this that people buy systems for their games. I mean who would buy an xbox or ps2 or gamecube if it had no games they wanted. The main reason i bought my ps2 was because i alrdy owned a psx and that my favorite games such as Final Fantasy series, Xenosaga, ZOE and dynasty warriors series were exclusive to the playstation console. Personally, i have never seen an xbox and gamecube in action so i wouldnt be able to compare the quality* of the systems but I admit plain and straight that i bought ps2 because of the games.

3 - yes that was a minor mistake making the games cartridges....but i think Nintendo still did a very good job making the games...they're just as good as the psx ones...in gameplay and graphics...the only thing it might not have is the cg scenes...and to me it's not taht big a loss...

I didn't buy a GameCube/PS2/XBOX for almost awhole year because there was no games that caught my eye, then Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty came out, along with SNK vs. Capcom 2, and that's what made me buy a PS2, and as soon as Ninja Gaiden/Fable hits the markets, I'll drop the money on an XBOX, still theres nothing that really catches my eye for the GameCube yet, but theres a lot of nice games coming out though. But as you said, when it comes down to it games = quality.

Well...you couldn't play nes games on a snes...so why does the 64 have to be any different? and yes what you said about the sega cd and genesis is true...but there's a difference...sega cd is an add-on...nothing more nothing less..and the 64 was suppossed to have an add-on itself but it just died...like the snes having a cd add-on also...and it was from sony no less...it's just that when the snes cd thing died...sony took taht technology and made their psx

well for me i own both xbox and ps2 but what i really like to play is rpg games in which there r tons more in ps2 than in xbox (ff series, suikoden series which is one of my faviorite games and arc the lad series and there is much more great games on ps2 that make it worth my money mg series and a lot more) but the sole reason i bought an xbox which is a really good reason is shenmue i really hope that they make shenmue 3 on xbox

Umm dude, 'DOLPHIN' IS GAMECUBE. Ultra 64 was the codename used for the development of the n64, but its 'not' the ultra64, ultra64 got used towards arcade hardware, ie KILLER INSTINCT. Or I might be wrong......-_-

There was never an "original" date set, it was all speculation of people to eagerly awaiting for the ps3. C'mon, seriously, they started with ps3 rumors before the ps2 even officially came out. Expect something to come out maybe mid 05, early 06, MAYBE.
Sony is soon coming out with both the PSX and PSP, I doubt they want to bring anything else in too early, thus hurting the sales of mentioned systems, IMO.
I chose Playstation throughout the years because of the games that are available for it and I like the way the console looks hehehe... though the loading times drive me insane sometimes... but there are soooo many games (lots of my favorites) to choose from... I'm looking forward for when the PSP comes out towards the end of next year. But for now I guess the GameBoy Advance SP will do. ;)

Here's the concept for the PSP. The prototype will be officially displayed at E3 2004 along with a few of the release titles, with more titles to be revelead at TGS 2004. Expected release date for the PSP is Q4 2004.
WOW the specs for the PSP completely blows away the Gameboy Advance. If all goes well Sony will take over the portable gaming market too, watch out Nintendo here comes Sony.

Hmm I don't think Nintendo will have to worry to much seeing how nintendo has the quantity part covered. You know the whole PS2 is doing better because it has more titles, while the XBOX has the quality and such? well whatevers. I think the PSP will be too expensive when it comes out because of all that technology anyways, but then it does hold Sony as its name so yea....
PS I'm a GBA person right now so I don't want Sony to take over thats all ;p
If Sony can keep the price of the PSP in the $100-200 range and provide plenty of good games for it then the PSP will rule. But knowing Nintendo I'm sure they have something up their sleaves to counter Sony at E3 in 2004. :)

Its possible it'll become the next N-Gage, but who knows? I personally I wouldn't get it until a really, really good title pops out (Not a Final Fantasy title either).
I have a GBA SP and I can't wait for the PSP to come out. According to this Playstation magazine it says it'll probably be about $150 for the PSP or so... and as always... I'm sure Playstation will have tons of great titles to choose from... that's what they are all about. XBOX has good quality but man... the only game I would buy would be HALO and I almost did... only to realize I was better off buying it for the PC cuz it was way cheaper. Not worth it for me to spend all that money and only use it for one game. I've had Atari, Nintendo, NES, Super NES, Sega Genesis, N64 and PS1... I sold all those consoles and got a PS2 hehehe... Dunno why I'm such a big fan of Playstations... I guess its simply because they have so many games to choose from. :D
