View Full Version : Hajime no Ippo
I wanted to know who has the rights to Hajime no Ippo? Also when is it going to be release? Can anyone fill me in on this, since I could not find any info on this yet (or I am just not trying hard enough)?
Plus are they ever going to make anymore eps. beside the 76 and movies?
Pioneer now called Genon has the license for HNI. I don't think they have annouced a release date as of yet.

Geneon has the rights to Hajime no Ippo. It was only just recently licensed so it will be awhile before anything for it comes out.
It is unlikely they will make more, but if sales are humongous for the DVD's, then you never know....

You're outta luck until it appears in stores, the license was only announced a month ago or so. You really shouldn't be looking for bootlegs either.

Hmm okay.. grr
Yep... the answer for now is "time travel 6-12 months in the future"
(or futher if you want the rest of the DVDs)
Of course they are also available in Japan, but very expensive
and without subtitles.

Just finished all of ippo must say it's probably the best i've seen. The character are nicely devolped and the fight scenes are maybe the best. Its action packed from start to finish not many animes can do that. It can make u sad 1 minute and laughing the other sort of like GTO. Anyway i was wondering since its fairly new if anyone knows anything about a season 2

The show has been over for quite some time now. There is no second series (there is the TV movie and the Mashiba vs Kimura OVA). The manga goes on past the end of the anime series.
Also, you should have asked your other question about wallpapers in the same thread...

Errr, no, Hajime no Ippo was made in 2000. It's not THAT old.

if you read the manga...they glorify tyson...yeah thats how old ippo is... tyson is ippo's idle...their styles are the same. Peekaboo and supreme dashing fighter with alot of bang in their punches. And they both got picked on when they were little. There are currently 66 volumes of ippo snoopy said the series ended around volume "30/31, and the Kimura/Mashiba OVA is in volumes... I think 33 or 34" read the manga if you want more ippo...much more...*drools at the thought*
The anime isn't old, but the manga has been ongoing from the late 80's or early 90's till now.
There are alot of references to real boxers. Ippo's Dempsey Roll is really a trademark move belonging to Jack Dempsey, same with many of the moves in the series. They are real technical moves and are used by real boxers. Morikawa-sensei is a super boxing fanatic and I heard he even owns a boxing gym. :D
Could someone tell me when I should watch the movie and the ova? during or after the series?

wow this is a simple answer
the movie starts off after episode 76
OVA starts after the movie

I thought the OVA came before the movie. (in the manga storyline anyway, I know the OVA was released after the movie.)
Yup... in the manga, the Mashiba and Kimura fight comes before the Ippo and Sanada fight.
They did show flashbacks of the fight with Sendo at the start of the movie though. :)
Mid 2004 you say? hmm I will definitely be lookin' forward to that!!!

They have started puting Ippo trailers on new dvds for the early 2004 releases, so your Hajime DVD habit can begin soon.
Also, it seems like they will call it "Fighting Spirit" with
"Hajime no Ippo" as second title and logos in the show
itself unchanged. IMHO, I've no problem with this -- It's
understandable they would choose a bit more marketable
name for a series this long.
'Fighting Spirit', huh...? Actually, it fits the show pretty well, and a direct translation of 'Hajime no Ippo' wouldn't make anyone want to buy it, so yeah, I won't complain about that.

You can't, unfortunately. Well, not translated anyway.
Snoopycool is translating the manga but they are only up to volume 20 or so and the anime stopped aound volume 30. (I believe the manga currently has over 60 volumes)
It might be a good idea to read the manga from the start, as I've heard there are some changes and things that were in the manga but that were skipped in the anime.

i just like to add that it's just some minor changes like a few comments and some really small changes that would make the story fit into the anime actually the changes were so minor that i dont even recall them :heh:
The coolest thing they skipped in the anime was Ippo sparring with the Welterweight before his championship fight with Sendou... seeing a featherweight KO the 4th seeded welter in one round was something I wished was in the anime...

My youngest brother looks exactly like Ippo. I got into the manga when I first saw it in Japan. I saw it had like 60+ volumes. But I didn't know if it was still going (is it?). Then I got the game when I got into the anime when I came back from Japan. Very interesting series. Takamura reminds me a lot of Onizuka from GTO. Makes weird faces and likes to use moves that are not taught in their style of fighting. I wonder how they would do in a fight :thinker:
Anyway, I wanna know more about the last boss in Victorious Boxers, Sawamura in Ippos part.

Man i wish there would be a season 2 for hajime no ippo, becuase it was freaking awsome. I also felt like the series could of been longer.

If I were you I wouldn't keep your hopes up. Once a series has ended in Japan, more often than not, that's it. If Ippo had gotten more popular after the Mashiba vs. Kimura OVA, there would have been more probably, but seeing as there hasn't, I'm banking on there wasn't enough to keep it going.

Hmm this is really difficult to do especially the way you have written it in some places...
Try using the Hepburn method of translatiing Kana to Romaji:
http://www.sungwh.freeserve.co.uk/sapienti/jkana-o2.htm
also if you see a small tsu symbol before a constanant starting kana this tsu doubles the length of the constanant. eg
i (small tsu) te becomes itte (said with a small pause on the "t")
From this I'll guess the first sentence is actually:
Hontou ni nanto itte ii ka
(really/truely) (What/whatever) (say) (good) (?)
"Is what you're saying truely good?"
Hmm I need more practice myself :heh:

right the small tsu is a tongue stopper i think i had them in italics.. but i find it a bit hard to tell with the text in the manga. Heh I kindof know a bit more then i implied on the manga but i'm never *sure* so i'd hate to imply something when i'm not entirely sure. ANyways snoopycool translated it for me :) A big thanks out to snoopycool. Here is the translation:
I really...
Don't know what to say...
Put yer chest out, Champion!
Right! You're a hero, act like one
H-, hero?
Say something
We're touched, man
That was super cool
Super
cool?
You're the pride of Japan~!!
I see! So all of you wanna be like me, huh!?
I understand!!
Then I'll pay back the people of Japan

I'll give you my successor!!

Hajime No Ippo has 76 episodes, a oav and a movie. It's been licensed and will come out on dvd later on. I suggest picking up the dvds when they're released because this is such an amazing show.
If you saw up to episode 75 and saw episode 76 was a bit of a oav on it's own Takamura's story, saw the movie and saw the mashiba vs kimura ova, then you've seen everything.

It was probably POT(although I'm not too sure, I don't watch POT). Hajime No Ippo didn't go up that high... I'm 100% sure of that.
The last episode was Ippo vs Sendo and Ippo gets the title
76 is just a bit sidestory on Takamura. It's safe to say 75 was the last episode. The manga is in 60+ volumes and it's still going though.

As far as anyone knows, the Kimura vs Mashiba OVA is the last animated work for HnI there ever will be for now. If you want more, I suggest you go look for the manga.
Also in future, it would be more proper to make a more specific subject title. For instance with yours it could have been "Will there be more episodes of Hajime no Ippo?" instead of cutting it short like you did. Just FYI.

I haven't even gotten to the trailer part. I'm reading the episode summaries and episode 1 identifies Ippo's bully as Uemura. Umm...hello? :bash:
PLUS, the character summaries totally spoil the whole mystery of the Kumi-Mashiba relationship. How could they tell us her surname and who she's related to so early on? :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:
Ah, I finally watched the trailer. It...wasn't as bad as I expected... :upset: GAAAAAAAAAAAAHTakamuraGAAAAAAAAAH!!! :upset: No, honestly... really... I'm fine. I'll...I'll just go drown myself in the nearest river now, shall I? :help:

Why do you guys get so upset over a dub? I mean yes it's crappy, but it's not like you have to watch it dubbed. Just watch the subtitle track.

People just hate seeing things they love being treated poorly, I guess.
Precisely. Plus there's the added factor of Takamura's voice just being HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE. I certainly don't expect dubs to be perfect, and I thought they did an acceptable (not good) job with the other voices. Takamura just sounds so wrong somehow. Worse than wrong, it's SICK. Of course I'm going to buy it anyway, but that doesn't mean I can't express my disappointment in their choices.
Muhahaha, when I went to Animenation(god I rule :)) to buy Devil Lady, someone was watching the first DVD dubbed, so I saw about 10min of it. I always give dubs a chance, but damn, this just sucks.

The DVDs are tri-lingual (Japanese, English, and Spanish audio, English subtitles).
Some people moan that there's some rainbowing or artifacts on the ED credit scroll, but overall it looks pretty darn good to me. Geneon don't usually turn out bad work, and I have yet to find any serious problems across any of the 16 discs released so far (still holding out for the Kimura vs. Mashiba OVA...)

Ippo is one great anime! The color and art quality is top notch. though the series and manga is highly inspired by the Rocky seires of Stallone in some points it still holds it's ground on originality. As for my fav boxer SENDO RULEZ!! SMASH :heh:
Does Ippo and Kumi's relationship progress further in the manga?
I liked Champion Road's ending, but it kind of reminded me of Friends. (I like/love you. Thank you) Would have been nice if Ippo just blurted it out.
Well, it's pretty much the same in the manga really. Although...
Ippo finally confesses to Kumi while they are talking in a hotel room on the beach, but they've both been drinking and Kumi has fallen asleep when Ippo says the actual "I love you". After that it goes back to the same old, more or less.

Ippo is great, no doubt, on all mediums, but you gotta admit - the idea of World Box Champion of Japanese origin is really stretching the boundaries of belief. :D
i really enjoyed this anime!!!
Has the manga finally ended? Or is it still ongoing? I heard the manga has been running since the late 90s or so.
Please let me know.
Thank you.

After the 76 episode series, there has been 1 movie and 1 OVA of Ippo released. If you want to follow the manga's timeline, watch the OVA first and THEN the movie (although the movie was released first before the OVA)! :D

i really enjoyed this anime!!!
Me too. heck, it made #5 in my Top Ten list. Nothing like boxing and heartful comedy.
My favorite characters there are Ippo and Takamura. I must admit, Takamura can be dysfunctional at times, but he's all good. I tend to remember Takamura's antics, my favorite Takamura moment was when he beat the bear up during a training at the forest.
BTW, in the Philippines, we call the show Knockout.

...with NO ONE able to witness it! So he was pissed when the others found his story hard to believe...heck, I wouldn't have believed it myself! :heh:

wished they made more OVA's. Including the Takamura Brian Hawk fight or other Ippo fights. REALLY NEEDS A SEASON2

Yeah I agree. I want to see a Season 2 of it. I wanna know what happens to Ippo and the rest, especially Takamura.

The manga is currently up to 81 Volumes and nearing 800
(yes, EIGHT HUNDRED) chapters, so there definitely is a LOT MORE MATERIAL to pull from to make another 75-episode (hopefully more) anime series!
The Takamura/Hawk fight would be so awesome to see animated, as well as the Ippo/Sawamura and the Mashiba/Sawamura ( bloody hell...LITERALLY! :heh: )! In fact they can even end the 2nd season series with
the huge build-up to the fight of Ippo/Miyata up to the sudden cancellation of it.
I'd rather they made a 26-ep season just so they can end with the Takamura-Hawk fight.
Rectangular building things were excreted!
Can anyone tell me at around which chapter does the anime/ova end?

More episodes would be great
I have a question. I've never seen this before but I have a cousin (alot younger than i am) that watches anime. He likes Boxing and stuff and comedy stuff. but he's never seen this. he's like 11 years old.
Would this be ok for him to watch? I hear theirs alot of "dick" jokes?......Do they show anything? like.....ya know....
What about the manga? is that an ok read for him?
he's mature for his age. but.....ya know just checking, he seems like he'd really dig this stuff
^^^ i doubt that the manga would be okey for him to read as it does have some material that should not be read by young kids. as for the anime, i can not say. i only watched the episodes of the new one and in there, there was one bit that had a shower scene and it was risky.
to be honost i would not reccomend an 11 year old child to watch, or read.

i'd let him watch it. theres no sexual jokes aside from them dicking around in the shower. i know i let my little cousins watch it and they loved it.

Finally was able to watch the Fansub version of this anime. I really want to go and buy it now. Are the DVDs still around?
I am a bit confuse, there seems to be two movies (OVAS) Are there any kind of skips from the manga?
