View Full Version : Maria-sama ga Miteru third season
I don't like to ask this kind of question. I already hear somes ghosts saying "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON!" But I tried it! and I can't find what I want!
Does someone knows if there will be a 3rd season? I think that it would be logical since the 2nd season is far from the end of the novel serie...
Till now there have been no official announcements, no leaked rumuors, no nothing. On the bright side, there hasn't been any annoncements of the company not continuing with the series. So, to this day the most accurate answers is "Who knows?"
well...who knows?
The TV ratings for the second season was only 0.3%, but judging how the DVD sales are and that there are more volumes of the novel that haven't been shown yet, there might be one. But there hasn't been any news or leaked info as of yet, so all we can do is speculate and hope that we get to see Kanako-chan.
Just out of curiousity, how soon after the end of the first season was the second season announced?
The TV ratings for the second season was only 0.3%.
Is that an especially low rating for a second season of an anime on Japanese TV? If it is, do you have any idea why the ratings were this low?
I could guess the ratings are so low due to the fact that this show is aimed right at the female market in Japan, besides competeing against the likes of Madlax,FMA and still more Naruto... of course the ratings are small. Regarding a season 3, I doubt we'll see it, what I expect though is perhaps an OVA of some sort.
Besides there are the Novels which are great. If they were only translated into English. =(
It's hardly competing against those shows for viewers. It was shown on Sunday mornings, a totally different timeslot bracket. Given that the series doesn't really seem to be aimed directly at the otaku (not that they're not milking the otaku fan element for all it's worth), that's a much more suitable slot for it than, say, 1:30am or something, though I have to wonder if it would've done better in a "family" slot like 6:30pm or something.
I'd expect at the very least an OVA series to follow, given the sales of the DVD's, etc, but I'm hoping for a 3rd season. I suppose we can only wait and see at this point.
gah so low ratings? :( but the futabas have loads of marimite......
i always thought that the marimite anime was geared towards the otaku. iirc someone did a translation of an article or interview a while back; in it someone mentioned that the style of marimite that they decided on was geared towards that group? i hope i'm recalling the right thing.....
not only kanako, but also all the other stories! i really want to see yumi-chan's generation take the center stage in lilian.
season 3 please! :( an OVA just won't cut it, marimite already feels rushed after being crammed into 13 episodes! i wouldn't mind a 1 1/2 hour movie though, a standalone story done by the writer, or one of the longer arcs which can be sqeezed into a short story. that would be nice. a beach trip or holiday trip or something, just like in that doujinshi (can't remember which, the one with the dragonflies?). or maybe the trip to italy!
well the most recent post at http://www.gokigenyou.com/goods.htm (gokigenyou) (the official marimite's webpage) is just an advertisement for the recently released マリア様がみてる~春~ DVD's.... (and the new naisho's :D)

I believe it was initially. It aired at like 2am or something terrible like that. The second season aired in the morning though at a reasonable time. I'm not sure if they intended to change their target audience or not.

I think you are talking about the interview on Laurore31's website :
http://mariamite.free.fr/maria_article_eng.htm
So Marimite *is*aimed at otakus in Japan.

Need not to remind you that anime companies rarely have no control over which timeslot is available. Just because "Marimite" Season One aired at 2AM and Season Two aired at 7:30AM does not necessarily mean the anime companies decided to change their target audience. It's more like the TV studio offering them an open time slot whether the anime studio likes it or not.
Going by that then, would it be more reasonable to expect a hypothetical third season to be at a late night timeslot like the first season, due to the low ratings?
Why is that everybody keeps saying the rating for the second season is low? According to NewType USA, it isn't so bad for a series like this. There are some shows that get lower rating. Just exactly what is your source about the rating?

Overall, the average rating for the "Marimite~Haru" was around 0.3% for the entire second season.
I have to accept that those are quite some frightening statistics.... and yes they undermine the possibilities of a new season >.<
Wow...that IS low. Thanks. But why? We got the second season. I though it was because the first season got good rating. Why the change?
However, the pace for the second season is significantly slower than the first one.
Wow...that IS low. Thanks. But why? We got the second season. I though it was because the first season got good rating. Why the change?
However, the pace for the second season is significantly slower than the first one.
Now let's reason with this analytically why even an anime with such a low rating may have a good chance of doing another season:
The supposed census of Japan is 160,000,000 persons.
The supposed viewer rating for "Marimite~Haru~" is 0.3%
Supposed number of viewers for "Marimite~Haru~":
0.3% x 160,000,000 persons = 480,000 persons = A
Using the "it costs a little over 30,000,000 yen per episode to make an anime" rule:
30,000,000 yen x 13 episodes = 390,000,000 yen = B
Now here comes the hard question..."out of the total viewers of this series, how many will actually go out and buy the DVD?"
number of prospective buyers:
100% x A = 480,000
90 % x A = 432,000
80 % x A = 384,000
70 % x A = 336,000
60 % x A = 288,000
50 % x A = 240,000
40 % x A = 192,000
30 % x A = 144,000
20 % x A = 96,000
10 % x A = 48,000
Now use those figures and figure out the prospective sales. I will use 7000 yen per disc for 6 discs each
480,000 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 20,160,000,000 yen
432,000 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 18,144,000,000 yen
384,000 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 16,128,000,000 yen
336,000 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 14,112,000,000 yen
288,000 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 12,096,000,000 yen
240,000 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 10,080,000,000 yen
192,000 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 8,064,000,000 yen
144,000 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 6,048,000,000 yen
96,000 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 4,032,000,000 yen
48,000 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 2,016,000,000 yen
As you can see, even if 48,000 persons buys the DVDs (10% of 0.3% of the entire Japanese populace), this anime rakes in profit.

Agreed! But all those numbers are making the English major in me feel a little ... uneasy..
I don't understand how ~haru~ got such... harsh rating?
I admit, I did enjoy the first season a whole lot more because of Satou Sei, but it's not like she didn't have her share in the second season. Come on, I've never seen any other support character get so much air time!!!
(fangirl within screams: sei-sama, i rabu you!)
So it can't solely be the fact that the original Roses left... can it?
And seeing how Sei is showing up again the last few episodes... heh... heh...
um, er, I guess normal people don't wake up early to watch anime?
Ergh - Maria-sama ga Miteru is really well made, I'd hate to see it go down like that.

0.3% Although isn't good probably isn't that bad for the type of Anime Maria-Sama ga Miteru on TV. (By type I meant drama shoujo)
For example; From FlyByNite at Gumdum board
the top 10 for the week of October 4th through 10th:
1) Sazae-san - 20.4%
2) Chibi Maruko-chan - 14.4%
3) Detective Conan Aki No Honkaku Mystery Special - 14.3%
4) Anime 7 (One Piece and Kochikame) - 10.8%
5) Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY - 8.2%
6) Konjiki No Gash Bell! - 7.3%
7) Futari Wa Precure - 7.2%
8) NHK Anime Playhouse: Agatha Christie's Great Detectives Poirot & Marple - 6.6%
9) Channel Alpha Dragonball (DB reruns on Fuji TV) - 6.5%
10) Prince Of Tennis Special - 6.1%
Apart from Futari Wa Precure - Action Fantasy Shoujo, there isn't any Shoujo anime on top 10. The highest viewer seem to go to either Funny, aim for little kid, or action anime.

....you do know how TV ratings work don't you?
Wow! That interview hit the nail on the head!
Let me paraphrase (from http://mariamite.free.fr/maria_article_eng.htm)
"I believe that when the staff of this anime decided to make Marimite into anime, they seriously deliberated upon "To whom should they set target audience?"
They chose DaFool , because DaFool spends much more money than high school girls. But they also desided, "We will never curry DaFool 's favor like bishoujo anime." They knew DaFool [was] bored with harem anime like Love Hina and lolicon anime like Chobits. DaFool had a thirst for something new. So they made this anime in elegant shoujo style. They think DaFool h[has] no immunity to this kind of style, and maybe they are right.
ROFL!!!!!!!
well, after seeing something like naruto only getting around 9% (and FMA at 6%, seed at 8%), i'm not that disappointed in marimite's ratings anymore. it's for a niche group, and imho it will stay that way.
fans will call out for it, and i'm keeping both my fingers crossed so that the producers will listen. :)
....you do know how TV ratings work don't you?
I know that you combined an absolute census number and a relative viewer number. If the latter number is relative to the former then logically all people in Japan watch TV. If the latter number is not relative to the former then the mentioning of the former number is irelevant to the argument.
Also, CIA World Fact Book (http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/ja.html#People) estimates the population census at 127,333,002 (July 2004 est.). Not that it matters much, just saying.

Well taking Japanese government data and the Euromonitor International statistics, 99.14 per 100 people in Japan own TV sets so I'm assuming that almost everyone in Japan watches at least some sort of televised entertainment.
But since you are interested in a more accurate number, let's use your figures for a revision then:
127,333,002 x 0.9914 = approx 126,237,938 persons in Japan who watched televised entertainment
The supposed viewer rating for "Marimite~Haru~" is 0.3%
Supposed number of viewers for "Marimite~Haru~":
0.3% x 126,237,938 persons = approx 378,714 persons = A
Using the "it costs a little over 30,000,000 yen per episode to make an anime" rule:
30,000,000 yen x 13 episodes = 390,000,000 yen = B
Now here comes the hard question..."out of the total viewers of this series, how many will actually go out and buy the DVD?"
number of prospective buyers:
100% x A = 378,713
90 % x A = 340,842
80 % x A = 302,970
70 % x A = 265,099
60 % x A = 227,228
50 % x A = 189,357
40 % x A = 151,485
30 % x A = 113,614
20 % x A = 75,743
10 % x A = 37,871
Now use those figures and figure out the prospective sales. I will use 7000 yen per disc for 6 discs each
378,713 x 7000 yen x 6 discs= 15,905,946,000 yen
340,842 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 14,315,351,400 yen
302,970 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 12,724,756,800 yen
265,099 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 11,134,162,200 yen
227,228 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 9,543,567,600 yen
189,357 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 7,952,973,000 yen
151,485 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 6,362,378,400 yen
113,614 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 4,771,783,800 yen
75,743 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 3,181,189,200 yen
37,871 x 7000 yen x 6 discs = 1,590,594,600 yen
As you can see, even if 37,871 persons buys the DVDs (10% of 0.3% of 99.13% the entire Japanese populace), this anime rakes in profit.
...Unless you meant something like "the amount of people watching TV at a certain given time." Unfortunately, that is not how TV ratings work - a rating monitor system is randomly selected among the populace as a per ratio of the sample size of the total population of Japan.
A 3rd season? Psh.
It leaves one to wonder if the second season would be completely subtitled by the time the third season finished airing. :)
It leaves one to wonder if the second season would be completely subtitled by the time the third season finished airing.
It also leaves one to wonder wheter those comments serve any value at all ;p
Don't you know the golden rules of game translation/fansub/software developing :p
Do not ask when the next version/release is comming out
Do not ask about the features/characteristics the next release will have
Do not nag about the next release
Do not bother the developers/translators with silly questions
Do not ask the developers/translators questions at all
Do not make any kind of commentary that could lead the project workers to remotely suspect that you are possibly asking for the next release
And before you reply, the answer is no :D
Lol. First rule of fansub club, gosh why do people forget :thinker:
You will get your fix soon enough ....

Yeahhh!!!!
I agree that OAVs are probable, because the series is lucrative, but it does not look like a third season is slated anytime soon. Movies were mentioned but in a way I think an OAV series would be even nicer because they may not rush resolution as a movie must (not that one wouldn't be nice as well ^^). Aside from that, while I have not seen S2 13 yet, I have heard of a somewhat... dramatic visual ending, which sort of begs the idea of closure.
Also, people seem to have conflicting notions about which season was slower paced. I feel that the first season had a slower pace, and I thought it more pleasant and thoughtful, which in turn made the second season "slower" in terms of my interest... in a way the second season has been more of a fix for me than a pleasure. So I would hope for an OAV series to be nice, slow episodes. I don't see how this could be the end of MariMite, so I look forward to it in whatever form it comes in.
Maybe the novels will be more accessible to people of other languages too due to eventual fan translations etc who miss the seasons. If I could get these novels soon I know I would jump on the chance to provide, so I imagine others feel the same way. So the conclusion is I think more MariMite is thankfully inevetible.

Not to mention profits that come from selling additional novels, merchandise, music CD's and such (not all that money goes to the anime creators thoug). And there is always the possibility that an American or other company picks it up.

Hmm... well it would be good if it was real... maybe it's my skeptical nature but some parts of it doesn't look like Marimite's characteristical drawing... like Kanako's face being a little rounded up, her nose not being as pointy , some parts of the coloring getting out of the outline....
but anyway it serves as a light of hope :)

Ah, dangit. It did look mostly official but I doubted it slightly because I wouldn't put the character designer to make a mistake in the leftmost picture where below the waist she seems to get thinner which just looks out of place... also the 3/4 profile looked slightly different from the art style.
It looks quite convincing though, the lines were very clean and the cel shading looked quite professional.
For those that can't understand Japanese that site says that it was fan-made and not official. I think it's the site of the person who made it. Dunno.
tbh I was really surpised that a second season was made at all, never mind the hope of a OVA or even a 3rd season. I don't feel so bad about the end of a series when I think about it that way. But I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that there will be more to come.
In the meantime I would like to remind everyone that can afford it to buy the DVD's so at least you know you have supported Mariamite in some way. At the end of the day its money that makes an ongoing series not just fans ;)
Well there was some massive update (http://www.gokigenyou.com/goods.htm) at the official marimite webpage... however i think it only has to do with a rerelease in March of the 1st season DVD's, and the release dates of the next DVD's of the second season... if my limited Japanese understood it correctly :p

The DVD that'll be released in March is a 75-minute compilation of the entire first series narrated by Fukuzawa Yumi.
Summary of what's included in that DVD:
1. Special cover art by Matsushima Akira
2. 75-minute compilation of the first season of "Maria-sama ga Miteru" narrated by Fukuzawa Yumi + audio commentaries of the entire eight seiyuu cast members
3. Different "Next Episode" previews, including versions done by the eight members of Yamayurikai, Tsutako-san, Minako-sama, and Mami-san. Compared to the original comical versions, these include serious versions and comical version done by the other casts (the original was done by Sachiko-Yumi duo)
4. Rough sketches and illustration gallery
5. Warning messages by the Yamayurikai members ("please sit back and don't watch too closely to the TV" etc.) + other random menu pictures
6. All TV commercials related to "Maria-sama ga Miteru"
Man, they are really squeezing every bit of cash from marimite fan's wallet. The TV series was already a compact version of the novel and now they are going to do a "summary" version of it. Is this a sign of the show doing well or not well?

I think third season of marimite will not be in the near future. I agree with your opinion that marimite sales team is trying to get every penny from their marimite works. At this rate, I wonder whether Geneon USA has a problem to license marimite from them.

I regret not buying the novels when I saw them in Japan... so pretty~ Though it would take me forever to read. ^__^;;
It took me a few minutes going through this thread to realize that I had read through it a long time ago~ @__@;
Responding to some stuff said a year ago.... (stupid forum hack)
I think the reason ~Haru~ didn't receive as much acclaim is because of the change in subject matter. A lot of the first season was much more lighthearted (aside from the excellent Ibari no Mori sub-arc which rose this to my 1-2 top anime slot ^_^). While the first episode of ~Haru~ started out strong (it was a nice recap of the previous series), the series immediately dropped us into the Rose graduation arc. I liked this arc a lot.... but I also thought it was really sad, since I had gotten attached to all the characters. Overall, in my opinion, the drama of ~Haru~ was much more than the first season (the whole ``Yumi's facial expressions'' thing was more-or-less ignored in the ~Haru~, while it gave a nice lighthearted touch in the first season). I loved the drama a lot (I really loved the switch to drama in ~Haru~ ^_^, even if it's a bit on the nice side....) , personally, but I guess it makes it less of an ``entry-level'' anime for those not in Japan (since in Japan, I don't think it's really possible to be entry-level in that, I may be wrong though) and a little off-putting for someone who watches more popular anime (again that's me, I can't guess at non-American cultural values so....). Unfortunately, TV doesen't work like cult books do.... ah well :\. Also, I'm sorry if this came out sounding like a review (you can see my massive Marimite review at AniDB though, totally about 1940 words, a Haru review coming after I finish my finals, and why I'm not studying for them now I don't know!)

Nope, the 3rd season OAV is something else. It's still a go. :)

WooHoo!!!
Thanks alot pkgirl163, you just made my day. I was getting worried. :p
Mangaoh (http://www.mangaoh.co.jp/topic/maria.php) have listed the first recap DVD, out 2006-03-24. Looks like there are going to be three, one for each Rose, released bimonthly and featuring new(?) commentary plus a music clip from the corresponding image album.
Disclaimer: I'm relying on Google's translation here, so I may have this all wrong :)
Okay, I haven't seen anyone posting the Cobalt Feb 2006 magazine's announcement. [...] Still no release date, but they will release '1st season and Haru TV series' DVD.
I finally got my copy of that Cobalt issue yesterday - judging by the text "2006年秋発売決定" on the first page (http://www.hikari.org.nz/stuff/random/cobalt2006_02p9.jpg) (218KB), I guess we're looking at an Autumn release? If the recaps are coming out March, May and July then a September-ish date for the OVA would seem to fit.

What exactly would these recap DVDs contain? It would be self-defeating to release those when the series themselves are already out.

The summary dvds are meant as a cheaper alternative to buying the entire series.
If the release of the OVA catches the attention of someone who isn't a fan, the summary dvds allow them a quick and comparatively cheapier way to get into the series when they otherwise might skip the OVAs because they are the third series and most people won't watch a series that far in without seeing the first series.
It creates interest in the upcoming OVA and it widens the potential number of buyers of the OVA.
So the summary dvds aren't really aimed at people who have already seen the series. They are aimed at people who are vaguely familar with the series but never got into it. The summaries provide a easily accessible entry point into the series that might attract fans more than having them buy the entirety of the series in dvds.

ah, I see how that works. I'll probably watch the things anyways :(

From CDJapan (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=FCBN-3):
Fan disc volume 1 from the animations series "Maria-sama ga Miteru" and "Maria-sama ga Miteru -Haru-." This time around, the disc focuses on the Roses. Includes re-editied footage of famous scenes featuring the Roses (with new narration), plus music clips (image album+music). Also includes preview for the next series (subject to change).
They list the running time as 40 minutes.

I heard a rumor that the OAV centers more around the romance between Yumi and Sachiko.
Think it might be true?

No, really, If this is true, I will definitely buy it.

Yes.
Although, I suppose it is possible she has decided that Yumi is so wonderful that she switched her preferences but there hasn't been any reason given to believe that.
As things are, Shimako and Noriko and Rei and Yoshino are far closer to falling in love than Sachiko and Yumi.
I wouldn't expect it to happen though.

I would like a more romantic story between Sachiko and Yumi but I think it's useless to think of it because Sachiko MAYBE doesn't have this feeling towards Yumi. And moreover, I think Sachiko restricts the Yumi's "heats". I can't express my thought in english (i'm french) but Sachiko and Yumi don't have the same relation as Noriko and Shimako have. But, Yumi loves Sachiko. And Sachiko is terribly difficult to understand. In the anime, Sachiko dislike the men (father, etc) ... but we don't have the proof that she loves the women.
I sincerely hope for a love story between them two. I can dream ;-)

Sachiko dislike the men (father, etc) ... but we don't have the proof that she loves the women.
Erica Friedman has been summarizing the novels on her blog Okazu. She says that in the novels Sachiko always wants to touch, holds hands with and hug Yumi, and of course Yumi likes this.
I've read elsewhere that Sachiko is always caressing and cuddling Yumi and that this is never shown in the anime, which portrays Sachiko as a good deal colder than she is in the novels.
We do know from the books that Sachiko really, really hates men, but whether or not she is physically attracted to men is another question. She did formerly have somewhat of a crush on her fiancé Kashiwagi, but he's into boys so that’s out.
I personally think overall Sachiko is a kind, but somewhat repressed character. She is indeed head over heels in love with Yumi both platonically and romantically, but perhaps not sexually.
oh man i really wish for the novel to be translated in english. and it's very hard for me to get a copy of the mag/novel which i think i will go and check out the Taka Kino this wkend but i got problem with jap. hehe ... yup i'm frm singapore.
too bad i'm nt super duper rich to sponsor the team to continue the anime. 2yrs le. i wonder how's the girls are doing. muhahaha ...

It seems to be more similar with the manga design. Less incisive and strict, more supple (especially for hairs and lines of the girls).

Okay, I don't know if it's a rumour or not - most probably not - but at AnimeNfo (http://www.animenfo.com/), when I was browsing through the anime section, I saw the OVA (http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,3580,jtoidx,maria_sama_ga_m.html) of Marimite.
Anyone knows anything else about this OVA? There is nothing in AnimeNfo, save for that you see.
Thanks for your time.

See i hear all this about OVAS being the 3th season, but i have no idea weather you mean they are in manga or anime, could someone please tell me,....
¿What is it that's published on anime?
¿Is there a place in Mexico or the web... That you can get the manga in english or spanish?
¿Do you have any idea where to get the Ova's that have been published (if there's any)?
And just in case... whats IRS? :D
Thanks a lot for reading... and even more if you answer :heh:

The OAV will be released sometime this year, I believe. If you mean the extra that is included in every DVD, I don't think any group ever finished that in the second season.
And just in case... whats IRS? :D
IRS? I don't know. The first thing that comes to mind is "Internal Revenue Service" but since you are in Mexico, that should have nothing to do with you. :D

Thanks a lot for the answers..
I love to call my self and otaku, and truth be told, in my surroundings (mexico, and chile), I'm quite the "anime guru" but once plugged to the web... I realize I'm but the cyclops leading the blind... (best way I could find to call it).
And I actually found Marimite out of pure luck in a recent comic convention (TNT) in Mexico City, I'm quite a Yury-seeker and at this convention they had about every anime-selling stand (not that they have THAT many) advertising with the words "Hentai" "Evangelion" (I wonder when will they get over that one..) "Saint Seiya" "Yuri" and "Yaoi"... so basically I go and check out every single place.. and one specially saying "All Hentai You Can Ask For" had a Marimite DVD, that said"second season"... And the pic of 2 pretty girls hugging (Yumi and Sachiko).
One would think "no big deal, get over it and dont tell us your life"... :D
But then... the following would make no sense... (plus I love telling ppl my "how i found out about my new world" story  )
After going all over through the mexican version of ebay, looking for the anime, only because the one I bought wouldn't show pass chapter 9. I found out that there was a first season... (yeh, "Duuuuh!!!" for me :p but really the Haru says nothing about there being a first season... Except for the small detail of everyone knowing each other... and the main character (Yumi) almost meeting death in the first chapter with Sei :D )
And in my unstopping search for more I found this:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6113
It might not be much, but the thing is that those dates are EVERYWHERE, and many say that they got it out of the oficial site, I happen to suck with kanjis, so.. I really can't tell, but aparently 1 has already been released.
And I did found some transalations of what claims to be "an special" that sin't either the naisho nor Haru... Many spanish sites call the 3th season "Natsu". But so far no one seems to have actually seen these OVAs out...
I'm hopping the ova's are anime and not just manga or novels, but there isn't any confirmation so far... I mean i know the term "Ova" to be an anime special, but apparently it can also be a manga or sthg else, that comes out of a certain line.. (does anyone have an inside on this? :p )
They say that these 3 Ovas are all about the life of each rose family. Again, I'm clueless but... Hope this information can lead for someone else that has a greater knowledge on kanjis... and places to find news... To enlighten us :D

Thanks for the images. It look like we will see you Yumi in Rome. :)
I translated most of that for fun just, but I can't read all the kanji because they're smudged. If anyone's interested, here's the rough draft most likely full of mistakes:
http://img127.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1153765740815oi6.jpg
Title line 1: "Maria-sama ga Miteru"
Title line 2: "3rd season magazine preview"
Title line 3: "Released next fall, the stage for the upcoming 3rd season will be from spring to fall"
Title line 4: "Lets raise the curtain for the special magazine preview, available only for the readers of Cobalt"
Title below Shizuka & Yumi: "A reunion at the school excursion!"
Small text: "For their second year school excursion trip Yumi&co. head to Italia, and the one waiting for Yumi over there is someone no one could have ever believed."
Title above group shot: "The rose mansion in the spring"
Small text: "At the core of the 3rd season are of course the Yamayurikai members! (can't read rest)"
Title next to Noriko: "Fall has the Sports Festival!"
Small text: "Concerning Yumi, who's running in the spring, (can't read), and the result is?"
Title below Yoshino: "Spring holiday at the summer resort"
Small text on lower right: I can read Yumi's name and the word "memories" a couple times, but the rest is too smudged.
Lower left title: "The rose buds will disguise themselves as males!?"
Small text: "The rose buds are heading into Hanadera!? Sailor suits are fine, but the male school suits (can't read rest)"
http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/2464/1153765707420jv7.jpg
Title (with 3 roses behind it): "Maria-sama ga Miteru"
White text: "Latest anime information!"
Big title: "Maria-sama ga Miteru"
Red text: "3rd season super special edition"
Floating text on left: "There's also a magazine preview of the first meeting with a new character!" (or something similar)
Small white text: "Can't wait for the release this fall! That's why we obtained the latest OVA information for everyone! (some kanji are smudged and 97% probably just redudant information), new (something) character's establishment and the likes of that in large amounts. (in the meaning there's a bunch of that kind of events, I think...)"
There's one more sentence in the end of that, but it totally confuses me. It talks about the meeting of "the Spring tea party report" and the Lillian-something (kanji is smudgy), and also of the white rose sisters chronological table and a hint of them taking of a third sister. 充実の内容 (Juujitsu no naiyou) I took as "perfection of formation" of sorts in the roundabout meaning of fulfilling the missing third sister spot... I haven't read all the novels that this season spans, so I'm not too sure about this. The spring tea party thingy is from the web radio episodes, if I'm not mistaken.
Thank you Gingeng for the work you did.
Thanks for the translation.
I hope it's a joke : the casting of the boys in the third season. Not famous...
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/8185/danboorup1154094672974391po2.th.jpg (http://img211.imageshack.us/my.php?image=danboorup1154094672974391po2.jpg)
To my point of view, I think they're not in harmony with the atmosphere of Marimite. This kind of boys haven't nothing to do in it. Some of them seems to come directly from Ouran Host Club like Kintarô and the twin brothers, and the one who got glasses looks like to the heroe in Love Hina.

The Hanadera boys do play a major role in one of the novels, so it looks genuine. Don't worry, though, Yumi kicks their asses. :)
I recall that Yumi is very, very popular with the 1 year and the student from Hanadera. I think they give Yuuki a hard time about wanting to see Yumi. I look forward to see how Yumi does in Rome, summer vacation and the festiva.l
I'm don't like to much the new charades but... I'll wait and see U_U

It is, but the katakana reading is wrong. As usual, if you ask me. :heh:
Let me repeat that, even more than what you can see with Engrish, the very few French words or expressions used in anime, and especially in Marimite (episode titles), are most of the time completely wrong, or misused, or weird.

Ok, and sorry, I made a mistake again ( I don't read everything... :heh: ) On the page I linked the telephone card only is a limited series. So I suppose it's gonna be very hard to find. :( Sorry about that. The rest is sold in advance for the event.

The event took place today (http://www.animate.tv/nf/detail.php?id=0000000769) (Sunday) and Koshimizu Ami was introduced as a new character in Marimite, Hosokawa Kanako 細川可南子. She has been so wonderful in Kamisama Kazoku (Tenko) and Simoun (Paraietta) that I especially look forward to hearing her.
Among the eleven seiyuu at the two-hour-long event were Ueda Kana, Ito Miki, Toyoguchi Megumi (Alti), Noto Mamiko (Limone), Shimizu Kaori, Nabatame Hitomi and Kugimiya Rie, as well as Koshimizu Ami.
On the page I linked the telephone card only is a limited series. So I suppose it's gonna be very hard to find. :(
They started showing up on YJ Auctions (http://search.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/search/auc?p=%A5%DE%A5%EA%A5%A2%CD%CD%A4%AC%A4%DF%A4%C6%A 4%EB%A1%A1%A5%C6%A5%EC%A5%AB&auccat=0&alocale=0jp&acc=jp) last night - it's not the cheapest way to buy, but it may be the best chance you get (certainly for those of us outside Japan).
EDIT: Great news about Koshimizu-san. This just keeps getting better :)
kaoru,
thank for the news. Can't wait to see Ami-chan as Kanako.
do u happened to have any pictures or video on the seiyuu event?
thanks again

I've just got home from work and had a proper read (OK, Googlify) of the article. Am I reading it right, that Kotoko is collaborating with Marty Friedman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marty_Friedman_%28guitarist%29) of Megadeth fame on the ED? Well he does live in Tokyo and speak fluent Japanese, if you believe Wikipedia...
EDIT: Thinking about the ED release, is it odd for a theme song to be released a month before the first DVD? (I'm not very familiar with the R2 OVA market, as you can see.) I suppose November is consistent with the advertised Autumn release target, but I can't help wondering if the DVD dates were pushed back for some reason.
EDIT #2: Conspiracy ni yōkoso! I was in Japan end of June, so each Monday night I'd set my alarm for 1:25am to get up and watch Simoun on TV Tokyo. The programme on just before it was Rock Fujiyama, featuring - you guessed it - Marty Friedman. (As an even more pointless aside, my previous trip there was September 2004 - I turned on the TV one Sunday morning, and was immediately captivated by the last five minutes of some anime about a bunch of girls at a Catholic school. Whatever became of that show?)
Alright, I'll shut up now :)

Some of you will recognize Marty Friedman (http://www.martyfriedman.com/). He was the lead guitarist from the metal band Megadeath and is actually very popular in Japan. The picture is about a "special guest" (of what ? for what ?) in marimite : a/some song(s) for the OST ?
Well, if it's real... why not. Rock n' roll !

Maybe seiyû... I hope so... Metal Music in Marimite... erk (well since they gave us that... thing that is supposed to sing called "Kotoko"), nothing more can surprise me, then...
I remembered to a ballad, at the very least... Of course, metal will be indecent in the marimite atmosphere...
In the official website of Marty, i come across this :
So for example one day I may be playing a dance pop tune live with Ami Suzuki, then the next day writing and producing a ballad for Clair, then the next day playing a Japanese Enka song on TV then the next day I would go into the studio for "Loudspeaker" and work on a sick heavy track like "Stigmata/Addiction".

Nor does Marimite and Marty Friedman.
just to be devil's advocate his association with Megadeath does not mean that skill as musician are limit to heavy metal music. I am sure he very skill guitars and considering the location of where the girl will be for one of the episode having a skill music would be blessing.
Dunno if this is interesting info or not, but I came across the article and it gave out some additional information on the OVAs. (well, in English, anyway. I'm sure the same info was already displayed within other links to Japanese pages in this thread.)

waah who are these new girls in the pics  sorry i can't read the book...can anybody tell me :upset:
The girls in the picture are neighbors of Sachiko summer home. They are very rich brats. Touko is there sitting aswell and oddly come to rescue of Yumi when they began to pass rumors of Yumi. Course Touko action seem hostile but she in weird way care for Yumi. I can't recall their name of the top my head but Yumi win at end and prove she is Sachiko little sister.

Nine more days to go till I get my Sachiko fix.
I already spoiled myself with the book, so I'm not expecting any hawt Sachiko/Yumi makeout scenes; but still, It would be nice if they deviated from the books just enough to make the yuri a little more than implied.

2 years down the road with no 3rd season. I guess thats the end. Now all hopes are on a OVA.
but still, It would be nice if they deviated from the books just enough to make the yuri a little more than implied.
There are tons of silly Yuri-like of that kind, I can't see why Marimite should divert from her unique path to follow the (questionable) trend
BTW
Any anticipation from novel readers?
There's any chance to finally see Kanako (http://www.gokigenyou.com/images/chara/c_kanako02.gif)?
Above all... Satou Sei, have to wait for 2007 to see her again or...?

I'm all about teh questionable trends.
While I'd like to say I watch Marimite cartoons with opera glasses, a snifter of port and my pinky high up in the air; I'm afraid I'm just in it for the cheap thrills of cute yuri romance.

There's any chance to finally see Kanako?: I believe the first episode or so will be dedicated to Lamb's Vacation, if I remember rightly it's unfortunately Kanako free.
Kanako will appear in the second OVA which will also will have the lot member of Hanadera stundets council and Yamayurikai working together for the Hanadera festival. I am glad that it going to be 51 minute OVA I hope can cover all that happens in each of the novels.

Hm...looks like Sugita Tomokazu of Kyuichi fame (although I also loved his Mayama) is going to voice both Nikko-senpai and Kakko-senpai, or this guy:

They're third years, and are 生徒会顧問 (student council.... can't read the next letter). Guess they must be twins or something, since voice by the same VA?
They are I believe the 3rd year advicer to the student council. I guess it make sense to use the same VA for the twins.

The raw is out, apparently a day early. I can't say I was overwhelmed by the story, which seemed to move so slowly, but maybe that's what made it possible to feel those sweet, delicate feelings again. And the climax at the party may have been predictable, but it worked well for me: not over the top, just right.
Yumi's sweetness toward Sachiko is great. Her ability to calm her. And Sachiko's aristocratic way of being upset really worked for me. Ueda Kana (http://hashihime.atspace.com/Hashi_seiyuus.html#uedakana) seems to have even developed Yumi's voice a little more, and Itou Miki (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=1010) has such a great contralto voice as Sachiko. I was not surprised to find that she voiced Asa in Shuffle -- or that she is 44. Japanese Wikipedia says that she and Ueda Kana (26) are now friends, despite the difference in their ages, and Kana calls her "Onee-sama" or "Sachiko-sama."
I liked the slightly new character designs and perhaps slightly more active animation, and some of the backgrounds are very pretty.

Just finished watching RAW, glade to see Yumi and co. in action again.
Since my Japanese skill is not quite good so I hope to see subbed version soon. Anime quality is pretty decent but I think it might be better if they expand into 2 or 3 episodes, many things from novel was lost.
I don't think what was from the novel can't be a worse from what was lost in the regular season. I remember getting annoy with Sachiko for not telling Yumi that Sachiko grandmother was ill but in the novel Sachiko had made promise not to tell Yumi. In the anime that is never truly present at all.

Yup! Thanks alot for the summary ^_^
EDIT: Just finished reading your summary; I liked it. The thing about bitches cracked me up and what I wanted to find out was why Sachiko laughed at Yumi nearing the end of the OVA. Now I know! I actually thought the same as Sachiko too.. Anyways, thanks loads!

The most recent episode for Marimite web-radio (http://www.animate.tv/digital/web_radio/detail_068.html) aired on Jan 25 has Kanako-chan's voice. Can't say her voice has much character... sort of resembles Shimako.
I only understood about 30% of the dialog, but it's pretty effective for helping me wait out the few days that is left until the 2nd OVA episode:D
Edit: I'm not sure if I heard things correctly, but there will be a new ending song for the OVA, composed by Marty Friedman, comming out in March. This one is also sung by KOTOKO. It's called.. きれな せんりつ(kirena senritsu)?? Don't think I heard the title correctly...Need better listening skills...

The second episode is out and gave me a good feeling. Yumi is definitely growing up. Once again, she is a great support to Sachiko. Itou Miki's voice as Sachiko is just so wonderful, as is the character design and animation. Who wouldn't love her?
There are some guys present at one point in this episode. The twins are both played by Sugita Tomokazu, who was Kyon in Suzumiya Haruhi. The youngest boy is played by Minagawa Junko, who was Tohma in Fantastic Children.
Kanako made a silent appearance near the end. Her VA, Koshimizu Ami, has a wide range of voices (Tenko in Kamisama Kazoku, Paraietta (not Guragief) in Simoun, Karen in Code Geass, etc.), so I look forward to hearing how they have her play the role -- as I guess I will in two months' time. I haven't listened to the radio show yet.
Again, here is a page with pics (http://hashihime.atspace.com/etc/marimite/marimite_charseiyuus.htm) of the ten main characters and their VAs, with links to more info about the VAs.
Actually Kanako was praying one the scene and you can see she very tall compare to the girl she is next to. I too can't wait to hear what Ami will do with character like Kanako.

I wonder what kind of character Kanako is- in the next episode preview she "didn't seem like she wanted to be Yumi's soeur but is still stalking/lusting after her".
Oh well plenty of cute and funny scenes in episode 2. I'm intrigued about Shimako's dad. Must be really embarrassing...
Kanako does not see herself as Yumi little sister but Yumi protector. This maybe the driving reason why she does not want to be her soeur. Next OVA is the Handera Festival which has some funny section and fairly good ending for the story i though. I can't wait to see how they do it.
