This thread is for those with questions about the Bleach anime or manga. Please keep discussion about episodes in the relevant threads. And please don't ask things like asking who is stronger or more capable of winning a fight, only ask questions that can actually be answered as facts from the anime or manga.

Make sure you use spoiler tags if your question is about manga. Untagged manga spoilers are risking a ban. If you don't know how to use a spoiler tag, please read the BB Code FAQ (http://forums.animesuki.com/misc.php?do=bbcode#spoiler).

Please DO NOT quote entire posts; if you wish to refer to a previous post quote ONLY the parts relevant to your response. Please take care to quoting parts of the "Recovery" posts; they are large and we don't want them repeated in every subsequent post!

WARNING - Unmarked spoilers may be found in the "Recovery" posts due to the loss of BB Code information. You have been warned!

Now, this is the single most frequently asked question in this forum, so please read the answer!

Q. If the people in Soul Society are dead people, then how come they can bleed and all? Is it even possible for a dead person to be killed? Also I found it weird about the aging process there, since some people are over 500 years old, and the 10th division captain is still a kid. Could someone please clarify this for me please!

A. The answer to that question is complicated and not fully explained, even in the manga. A lot of people have been discussing it anyway. If you want to discuss the topic or hear what others have had to say, please read the relevant threads. Note that some of them allow spoilers and some do not:
Soul Society ? (Anime ONLY, spoilers = BAN)
Do Shinigami reproduce?
[Manga] Aging in Soul Society (some spoilers)
Death in Bleach (Beware SPOILER tags or cry)

Thank you, NoSanninWa.

My first question is about Zangetsu. Is Zangetsu only part of Ichigo or is he part of the sword that he got from Rukia. Then does that mean Rukia also knows Zangetsu and had the ability to call him out before? Or does the soul cutter change when it changes user? *scratches head*

Zangetsu is Ichigo's soul cutter.

Previously he was using Rukia's soul cutter, it was simply larger because he put more spirit energy into it than she did. After Byakuya broke the energy center in Ichigo that he needed to channel her power, he lost the use of her (unnamed) soul cutter.

After that he had to learn how to channel his OWN shinigami powers. Those powers are now manifested as Zangetsu, his own soul cutter.

That makes sense. But when ichigo first pulled out his "sword" from the shinigami-box(?), it was the same busted sword with the missing blade?

I'll go on to my second question also in the mean time. If Urahara is banned from Soul Society, how come he gets shipments and stuff and kinda works on Earth with no interference? Is it probably because he's forced to or that Soul Society doesn't hate him, just exiled for breaking the law? Or?

The sword was busted when he took it out of the box because he still needed to rebuild that energy center in himself. The difference is that it was HIS broken soul cutter, not Rukia's broken soul cutter.

As for your second question: I could answer that, except that it would give away points from the manga. If you don't mind reading manga spoilers then read below, but it really will give something away:
Some of that stuff he gets from connections he still has within soul society, but only the simple stuff. Urahara probably makes most of it himself. It probably seems impossible to you that he would have such abilities and resources, but he really can do that. You'll learn more about Urahara

Alright, here is my question.

If Ichigo became a Soul Reaper/Death God by himself in the underground cavern below the "Soul Shop", then why is Rukia unable to revert to a Soul Reaper/Death God again? I recall Renji saying that Rukia will never become "normal" unless Ichigo is dead (during the most recent fight between Ichigo and Renji).

Don't think too much about it all will become clear in times

You click anyway, :eyebrow: I think the answer to that is a somewhat major plot spolier so I I won't tell even in spolier tag :D :heh: :D . I'v been to other forums, where it's spoiler fest it realy ruin the anime experience

One reason is that the gigai Urahara gave Rukia actually turns her human. It doesn't help restore her Shinigami powers like normal gigai.

I'm having trouble with the names, dunno why, maybe it's because I'm watching other shows and Bleach is only once a week...

Anyway. Is Gin a captain? Is he also known as Ichimaru? Who's who? Seriously.

In fact, if someone could post the names of the captains for me I would be most great full. ^^

(+ Rep as a thank you, I guess...)

Edit: Pics to go with names would be awesome. :D

Just how powerful is Rukia. Shouldn't she be as powerful as Renji or greater? After watching eps 33 - 35, Renji and the 2 friends he went to school together are now Vice Captains in different squads. To make it simple is she just weak or is she really powerful? In Renji's flashback episode of the past, Rukia showed the most potential of spirit power. I find it hard to imagine that Rukia is actually weaker then Renji.

It's possible her raw talent was greater than Renji's when they were kids, but he was able to develop his better. It's not that unnatural.

They were all in the advanced class together. Rukia wasn't in the class

Question about Urahara Kisuke, the shopkeeper. First we see that Ichigo that he doesn't really have Shinigami abilities or good strength when he's in his normal body, right? That means you have to be a spirit to use the Zanpaktou. But how come Urahara is able to use his Zanpaktou, even though we never really see him get into a spirit form? How come he's still so powerful in a normal body? Or is he always in the spirit form? I think i missed something...

up till now, yes. but it may seemed that he's lost too much power in the fight against mayuri to recover 100% in this lifetime so...

in the future, maybe a miracle will happen?

Why is there nobody in the stronger than Vice-Captain/Lieutenant, weaker than Captain range? Surely, the strongest Vice-Captain ought to be able to beat/Give a serious threat to the weakest Captain. It would make more sense if there were 20-30 Vice-Captains, and 10 Captains.

Alternatively, is it that only 13 (the Captains) have "kicked it up a notch" and the 13 Vice-Captains are just the best of the previous level. This doesn't make sense though--Renji seems like he could beat all of the 3-5 rankers we've seen without a second thought.

It certainly would make sense if there were more vice-captains but as it is - assuming that you're an anime-watcher only - the captains are fully capable of taking care of themselves that, really, it doesn't seem necessary to have more VC. It's all in Kubo Tite's hands to see if he's going to create a VC in the range you're talking about.

And trust me in that just because some Captains looks lame or weak from a perspective it doesn't mean they can't kick a strong VC's ass. Don't judge until you've fully seen their capabilities, IMO. They're strong Captains, I'll leave it as that.

Of course, I might've interpreted your questions wrong but maybe that's cause I haven't slept in awhile so I hope this is the answer that you were looking for. ^^

Maybe there's something fundamentally different between vice captains and captains. Like in Hunter x Hunter, where Nen was the big different between Hunters and non-Hunters. It seems like the big difference here is "will power" or something like that. Ichigo got the will power and he beat Renji instantaneously. The difference was simply huge, so if the captains have mastered this willpower thing then they'll be more powerful than Ichigo, and that would mean they'll complete destroy all vice-captains.

So basically you got this "will power" you're a captain, you don't, you're vice-captain.

Concerning the power levels between VC and Captain. Captains do have something that VCs don't have. I won't say what it is, because that would be a spoiler. It's something a lot more definable than "willpower."

I'd say that the difference between VCs and the rank-and-file shinigami is a combination of willpower, talent and skill. VCs are just super strong shinigami.

Question about Urahara Kisuke, the shopkeeper. First we see that Ichigo that he doesn't really have Shinigami abilities or good strength when he's in his normal body, right? Because he's always in his spirit body. He's a normal Shinigami like Rukia was before she lost her powers.

Normal people can see Urahara. He's probably wearing a gigai like Rukia but to the extent that he can use his Shinigami powers or that his gigai is modify to fit his needs.

I have a couple questions regarding old man Yama...

1. Is he the one and only leader of Soul Society? Seems like he is, I'm just not 100% on that.
2. If so, does he have any way of keeping the other captains in check?

You know, that's a good question. From what I've gathered;

1. No, I don't think he is. After all the 46? Council Members are the one that seems to decide things. But he is the leader of the 13 Divisions I think.

I have no clue about number 2 though.

I think you have to think of OM Yama like a General with some political influence. He's the leader of the military system in Soul Society but doesn't rule it in a sense like the center 46 does, they are similar to a senate

As for the second question. I believe Soul Society works with written and unwritten rules. It is assumed that all captain's follow rules and make their subordinates follow them, quite like the military. He's the leader, and puts trust in his captain's, whether that's grounded or not.

Do they age as shinigami?

Like we see Rukia and Renji in their childhood and they were spirits at that point, yet when we meet the parakeet again his 'brother' has been there since the 1940s or something and he is still a little kid?

Also how do you get a noble family in Soul Society? I mean if souls come from the human world how is it possible that there is such a thing as a noble family in soul society? Does that mean the spirits themselves can still reproduce?

Souls in SS grow old if their spiritual pressure grow that means children like parakeet kid's bro won't grow, but as Renji, Rukia or Ganju train their power so they grow old :) (Rukia looks like a teenager because she's weak :heh: )

I'm guessing the Kwanyin here refers a buddist diety... the goddess of mercy?
the only problem I see with this explaination is in Japan kwanyin is known as Kannon, so why is Kon using Kwanyin instead of Kannon..?

Because oriental cultures aren't as obsessive about only using a single set of dieties. It isn't really odd in Japan for a Shinto or a Christian to invoke a Bhuddist diety like Kwan Yin.

I think he was asking more why they used the Chinese pronounciation (Kwan Yin) versus the Japanese (Kannon).

Here's a link about Kannon with pictures of the forms he/she can take.

as we both know Ken-chan's VC was really small when they met, but japanese people are short and and maybe she's enought cute to still look like a child and she's supose to look like a 18-20 (which still make her look realy young)...
the other reason might be that she don't have to be THAT increadably strong to grow old in such a short time (but we don't know long they've been together) she got Ken-chan by her side so she don't have to force herself on her training after she reached the VC level (at least with speed... or maybe almost Capitan in this) and like Ken-chan
Zaraki don't train too, and the proof is that he wants to be stronger just after the fight with Ichigo so he didn't wanted it for a long time :D

Well, we do know they met when she was a baby, so she HAS grown.

My guess is that souls age about a 1/10th of the rate of a living human. That's how Rukia, who claims to be 10x as old as Ichigo, can fit in as a high-schooler.

As for the people with low/no spiritual pressure, we really don't know if they don't grow. Yes, Parakeet's "brother" has been there for 60 years, but if you use the same scale as Rukia, then it is plausible that he would still be a kid.

Yachiru has been a vice captain for at least 10 years so i'll guess she had to have some sort of fighting skill to be his vc so i'll bet she's at least 20 since rukia has been a kuchiki for 40 years and still looks the same from when she joined the family, so i'm gonna guess kids stay kids for like 20 years?

I believe that "aging" in the Soul Society is relative to the individual, what kind of spirit they are, their spirit power, and how they ended up in the Soul Society. I don't believe it is possible for someone there to "die" of "old age", because they are spirits in the first place. Everyone probably appears in the physical form they were in when they first died, and depending on who they are/their spiritual power, either remain the same, grow a bit, or take on the appearance of someone elderly (though we've only seen a few so far) -- that is, it's not entirely involuntary. Appearance isn't really a big thing in the Soul Society as compared to corporeal earth -- my theory being that there, as well as in the physical realm of earth, appearance is just a way of saturating your self in a way that you can easily communicate with others and your environment.[/2 cents]

Okay, Anime question:

Is Kenpachi's sword already "released"?

It would make perfect sense--Ichigo's spirit energy keeps his soul slayer released, even when he is unconcious (or something like that, we haven't seen him "unrelease" it), so, certainly Kenpachi's is also released. If so, ;_;, 'cuz we;ll never see Kenpachi with a more badass/creative weapon.

Seeing that spoilers are allowed in the Q&A, I'll try answering.

Ichigo's zanpakutou is strange. It doesn't seem to have a Shikai (initial release), and is always in huge-ass mode. It could be that Ichigo's spirit power is so abundant the sword is always in Shikai mode. Now this was never fully explained in the manga either, so no-one really knows. (if I'm wrong someone correct me please)

Kenpachi's weapon, on the other hand, is said to be a low-class zanpakutou that has no name. Therefore, it cannot be "released." If memory serves, Ichigo asks Kenpachi the name of his zanpakutou, and Kenpachi replies: "Name? What name?" It is possible that Kenpachi never had to tap into his sword's power because of his already overwhelming spirit pressure. Again, no-one knows for sure whether Ken's sword is capable of "releases" or not.

Ken Chan fight without learning his zanpakutous's name, because he is enough strong without it, but after he was deafeated by Ichigo he tried to ask his sword a name and that means that as every shinigami he can learn realese of zanpakutou, but he never wanted to do it so...
I mean he still could learn realese but he still has the time so maybe when we see him next time fighting some Menos Grande or something he will use realese or even Ban Kai :D which will be Hella stronger then he was till now :D

.L']Seeing that spoilers are allowed in the Q&A, I'll try answering.

From what I understand, every sword has a name. Ichigo's blade, Zangetsu, even remarked that Kenpachi's sword was howling (or something like that) because the blade and its owner don't have the synchronization (for lack of a better term) that many of the shinigami have with their zanpakutou. It is entirely possible that Kenpachi doesn't have 'it', whatever 'it' is, that lets him communicate with his weapon.

About Ken-chan's Zanpakutou
If he somehow managed to talk with his sword's soul and then release it he would be having it in full-release mode cause he has lots of free power like a orange boy :D

here is two questions of my own that might be spoilers or maybe not...but just in case:

1-do we know what rank rukia was before she met ichigo? it was briefly touched upon earlier in this thread but not really answered. liek said earlier, as children, rukia was way stronger than renji which implied (if it was planning on following a regular anime plot-line) that she would end up way stronger than him, but there has been no evidence that she was a VC or captain so...whats up with it?

2-whats the deal with the cat guy? why does he talk (lol) and what's his reasons for wanting to go to SS?

don't answer if it is relevent to the ENTIRE plot of bleach, thus ruining my faith in human-kind, and more importantly anime.

Rukia was not a Vice-Captain though I'm not sure what her exact rank was. (The C and the VC of the 13th Squad were other people you'll eventually learn about.) It seems that Renji managed to surpass her by a good bit.

2-whats the deal with the cat guy? why does he talk (lol) and what's his reasons for wanting to go to SS?

It does give away something to tell you what Yoruichi's connection to Soul Society is and why Yoruichi can talk. I'd recommend that you don't click on the spoiler below because it is really cool when you find out in the story, but just telling you won't be even a tiny little bit cool.

Yoruichi is a shinigami who can take the form of a cat. That should answer your question. I'll let you find out the rest of Yoruichi's story by watching the show.

You'll find out soon enough. You'll really be much more happy if you wait to find out about the 13th Squad since that answer is relevant to the plot. (I'd rather not even give names because sometimes people type things and then this information will line up with something else that was talked about...)

My assumption was that Rukia is good at Demon Magic but not very good at sword fighting. So the flashback showed her having more control of her spirit energy, which is still true. Unfortunately for her, it seems like most of the high ranks belong to people who are good at sword fighting.

The difference between Rukia and Renji's power can be explained pretty easily.
Renji worked his ass off because of his goal of overcoming Byakuya, where Rukia wasn't working very hard. In the flashbacks we see Renji training hard, and Rukia feeling sorry for herself because people treat her differently because of her new noble status.

Uh. WRONG. Yoruichi was the previous captain of Division Two, and her ex VC was Soi Fong who is now captain of Division 2. Read the manga again, you're getting your facts wrong. She is a shinigami as NSW said! :eyebrow: Read Chapter 116+ where Rukia explains who she is. Okay, she hasn't revealed her sword though...I don't think she needs a reason to.

I think I payed attention so here's my theories on Ichigo and Kenpachi's zanpakuto's:

Ichigo: His is sealed right now. It's just that big because his normal spiritual pressure is still too much for him to truly keep bottled up/under control.

When he releases it by yelling out zangetsu like all the other shinigamis it should take on a completely different form.

Kenpachi: His only looks like a low level in the same way as Ichigo's first sword looked like Rukia's. It isn't his swords true form. In a sense I think it has to get broken down like Ichigo's does. Then he has to go through a process similar to Ichigo in which he gets a new sword and learns its name and so on and so forth.

His current sword as we learned in the most recent episode, feels the exact opposite of kenpachi. Maybe it doesnt like to fight as much or it feels differently about whose stronger or where he gets his strength from. We do know though that his sword howls because "When two people of great spiritual force disagree they clash." so kenpachi and his sword dont agree and his sword is howling because of it. But kenpachi is like a god so he doesnt hear it.

His sword isnt released either for him I really do believe in its current form it really is just a tool. On this level he is weaker than ichigo but if he releases it, unless ichigo gets stronger, he'll be way stronger than ichigo.

It's always released. That's pretty obvious. He called it's name when he first released it and simply never put it back. He either can't or doesn't know how, it doesn't really matter. It's obviously not a level 0 sword or in sealed form or however you want to call it it because it looks completely from everyone else's. You may have noticed that all Zanpakutou look like normal katana when not released. Even Ichigo's did, although it was much larger. It's size seems to be a plot hole, but I'd assume that it was large simply because he feels comfortable with a large sword. Additionally, his sword has an ability in this form, unreleased swords have no abilities

Kenpachi's sword has no name because he's never asked it. Much like Ichigo in the beginning. It screams because it's being used as a tool without a name, and Kenpachi can't hear it because he has no connection to it or any other sword. This is just the way I interpreted it, I have no evidence like I did for Ichigo's. Other the other hand, this means Kenpachi is completely all-powerful compared to other shinigami.

This Yoruichi thing is still going on. No one knows if Yoruichi is a shinigami or not, being part of special ops doesn't mean she isn't a shinigami. No where does it say you have to be part of Gotei 13 to be a shinigami
After all Ichigo is a shinigami now, and he's not part of the Gotei 13

Also, in the picture where Yoruichi and Urahara was training together, Yoruichi clearly have a sword with her.

Okay, I've got a few questions about the story...

Hell
Plus spirits are sent to SS, and slain hollows are also sent there, after beeing purified, but there was this one hollow, who was sent to hell... now how does "hell" fit into it? When the Quincys were introduced, it was told, that there is a balance between the souls in SS and the human world and the Quincys were disturbing the balance by destroying souls... but what about the souls which go to hell? Aren't they also lost?

Soul Society's aging
Shortly after Ichigo's group arrive in soul society, they meet with the boy which was a bird before, and they are told, that those ghosts who arrive in SS stay the way they were, when they died, forever and they won't age... also they get to know, that those pople create Fake families to compensate for the "real" (humal life's) ones, they can't find.
Now a few episodes later we see flashbacks of several people in SS who obviously aged, like Rukia and Renji, and there also seem to be real families, like the noble clans, and the Shibas, which seem closer than a fake family.
So if they age, there are obviously other rules applied then for those ghosts like the bird-boy.
Is it possible, that those people are able to reproduce, and the ones ageing are simple the ones who were born as babies into SS?

Hiding a Shinigami
Ever since entering the city of the Shinigami I was wondering, why everyone immediately identified Ichigo as one of the Intruders, since he obviously doesn't only look like a Shinigami, but also has their powers.
So I thought maybe they can feel somehow that he is an intruder... but what do I have to see: Inoue and Ishida prevented themselves from detection by putting on Shinigami's clothes!! :twitch:
So how can they be able to decieve the guards, while Ichigo who basically IS a Shinigami wasn't? :frustrated:
Plothole?

The hidden trainig room
Yoruichi rescues Ichigo from Byakuya and both went to the underground training room... shortly after, Renji arrives there for his own training... Now I wonder: Wasn't this room supposed to be hidden and shielded? How could Renji find them there and more importantly: If Renji was able to find them, why was nobody else? After all they are still the intruders and have to be arrested.

Death in Soul Society
Are Shinigami really able to die? We see them slice each other untill they loose tons of blood, they get stabbed and the clown guy even gets blown away his whole torso... but all of them recover in less then a day.
Why do they even try to kill each other, if it obviously doesn't have any effect at all?
And if there is a way to kill, why don't they go for a sure one?

Aizen's victory?
Do you think Aizen really got the real device, he was looking for? Actually he was very well informed, knowing that Ichigo's group will come to the rescue and that Urahara helped them and all, but on the other hand... Urahara isn't stupid also... he was in contact with Rukia for nearly the whole time, she was on earth (2-3 month), so couldn't he just have replaced the original one by a faked one?
Okay, it wouldn't really make an interessting story if after this long arc the bad guys suddenly just got a dummy, but it's frustrating enough, that all the bad guys got away without even suffering a loss.
Speaking of Aizen's group: I wonder why the clown-guy wasn't a part of it... he seems to be interessted the most in wierd experiments.

Unlimited Power??
Aizen said, that by becoming a hollow, the Shinigami is able to surpass his limits... Now does it mean, that those beeings have no limits at all ("hello, boundless ridiculous powerups"), or is it just, that those beeings have much higher limits?
BTW, hollows and Shinigami both are originally human souls, so shouldn't the combination become human also?

Return to the human world
Wasn't it suspicious, that there were flying some kids and a strange old guy around in mid-air on some sort of carpet? And why did Urahara know the exact place and time to wait for their return?
And about Kon: Why (and since when) was he in Ichigo's body? Ichigo left his body under Urahara's store, and everyone thought, that he was on some sort of journey.

Soul Society is a somewhat buddhist interpretation of the afterlife, a place for souls to rest until they reenter the cycle of reincarnation. Hell, on the other hand, is a Christian interpretation of death, once you go you don't come back. Presumably the only souls that go there are the ones that the person/persons (whoever that might be) in charge do not want returning.

Is it possible, that those people are able to reproduce, and the ones ageing are simple the ones who were born as babies into SS?
This debate is ongoing, but I for one don't think babies are born into SS. You call them "fake families", but if you live with and support each other for a couple hundred years, I imagine a pretty good bond can grow. For that matter, very few families in this world were born that way. Husband and wife, at least, have to meet each other somewhere and develop that connection, and despite the TV dramas, most adopted children receive as much love as if they had been born to that family.

Anyway, as for aging, the simplist answer seems to be that, like eating, only those with sufficient spirit energy are able to pull it off. Even then, time still seems to be a factor, and even then, there seem to be some inconsistancies. Basically, shinigami can grow up, whether they do or not seems to be a choice of the character designer more than anything else.

Plothole?
Ichigo's energy is supposed to be massive, so it may just be that he shows up on everyone's radar, whereas Ishida (with his containment glove on) and Inoue don't resonate as anything more than normal troopers, and so aren't really noticable. You'll notice that whenever they run into a seated officer or Captain, the deception is immediately dispelled. Yoruichi might be noticed, but she's a stealth expert already, and Ganjyu is never very far from Ichigo. That just leaves poor Chad, whom you may have noticed has to deal with it in his own way.

I wondered about that too. My guess? The shinigami know about the room. When Yoruichi and Ichigo head there they've already struck a deal, of sorts, with Byakuya, and so pursuit might have been relaxed enough that they could be alone for a while. It might also be that Renji just found out about it somehow. Or it might be a massive plothole.

Captain Unohana's Ban Kai seems to be able to heal anyone who isn't completely dead to full recovery, given enough time. When in doubt, you can always trust some mysterious power to save the characters. Yeah, it's a dues ex machina, but really, would you rather have every get killed?

Aizen's victory?
Do you think Aizen really got the real device, he was looking for? Actually he was very well informed, knowing that Ichigo's group will come to the rescue and that Urahara helped them and all, but on the other hand... Speaking of Aizen's group: I wonder why the clown-guy wasn't a part of it... he seems to be interessted the most in wierd experiments.
I could turn out to be wrong, but the fact that Rukia still hadn't recovered any of her powers was proof that the device was real and working as intended. As for Mayuri (the clown-guy), he doesn't generally seem to care enough to get involved in all the politics. He'd probably be interested in seeing how Aizen's experiment turns out, but I don't think he'd be willing to go through all the subtle scheming involved to pull it off himself.

As far as anyone can tell, the result of the hollow/shinigami combination experiment is Ichigo, who is, as you say, a human. For more than that, you'll have to keep reading the manga, since they haven't really talked about it yet.

Most of Urahara's toys seem to be undetectable by normal eyes. Maybe people who can see spirits could spot them, but they've probably seen weirder. Plus, you'd be amazed how few people ever look up. As for Urahara knowing, it looked like they were on the lookout for the general time, but the place was unknown, hence the bizarre cannonball-style entrance.

I could turn out to be wrong, but the fact that Rukia still hadn't recovered any of her powers was proof that the device was real and working as intended.

That was the gigai doing that, not the device.

Hell
Presumably the only souls that go there are the ones that the person/persons (whoever that might be) in charge do not want returning.Hm, interessting, so you ssume that there is "someone in charge"?
However it doesn't really answer my question: The souls going to hell are lost, aren't they? So shouldn't it disturb the balance?

Soul Society's aging
This debate is ongoing, but I for one don't think babies are born into SS. You call them "fake families", but if you live with and support each other for a couple hundred years, I imagine a pretty good bond can grow. For that matter, very few families in this world were born that way. Husband and wife, at least, have to meet each other somewhere and develop that connection, and despite the TV dramas, most adopted children receive as much love as if they had been born to that family.Actually, since there are definately characters which are aging, I see no reason to disbelieve that there can be born babies. Only those, who are born can age, while the ones, which were sent into this world remain like they are... does at least make a little sense this way.

Hiding a Shinigami
Ichigo's energy is supposed to be massive, so it may just be that he shows up on everyone's radar, whereas Ishida (with his containment glove on) and Inoue don't resonate as anything more than normal troopers, and so aren't really noticable. His energy may be huge, but the point is, that it's still a Shinigami energy, while Ishida and Inoue's aren't. And since they are able to decieve the guards by just putting on the proper clothes, I think Ichigo should be able to do the same.

The hidden trainig room
I wondered about that too. My guess? The shinigami know about the room. When Yoruichi and Ichigo head there they've already struck a deal, of sorts, with Byakuya, and so pursuit might have been relaxed enough that they could be alone for a while. It might also be that Renji just found out about it somehow. Or it might be a massive plothole.Hm, the most likely choice would be, that Renji accidentialy found the room in the past and just went there, because he couldn't finde them anywhere else. It's hard to believe, that the rule-abiding Byakuya of all people should accept them training, if he knew where to find them. However, it seems to be hidden pretty bad if it can be found, regardless of how Renji did it.

Death in Soul Society
Captain Unohana's Ban Kai seems to be able to heal anyone who isn't completely dead to full recovery, given enough time. When in doubt, you can always trust some mysterious power to save the characters. Yeah, it's a dues ex machina, but really, would you rather have every get killed?Actually, I really think a few dead would have made the story more believable and more interessting.
And especially the actions of the characters are kind of strange... how can they talk about "killing" their enemy, if they don't really do it (knowingly aren't able to do it). If I want my opponent dead, and I know that he can brought back from certain wounds, then I would avoid this kind of injury and instead aim for a target which assures me a certain kill. For example when Aizen "killed" Hinamori and Hitsugaya, while knewing that Unohana is going to appear shortly after, he should have been more accurate in his killing.

Aizen's victory?
I could turn out to be wrong, but the fact that Rukia still hadn't recovered any of her powers was proof that the device was real and working as intended.Like Zoe already wrote: The thing which prevented Rukia from getting back her powers was the fake body, not the device planted inside her. And after the return to soul society she was put into this energy absorbing tower... It looks like captains are really hard to kill, if they are first put into this tower for 30 days and then striked with the power of 1000 swords. ;)
However, the device was supposed to convert between Shinigami and Hollows and the questioon remains: Was Urahara careless and let the real device inside of Rukia, despite having the chance to replace it by a fake one, or did he hide the original somewhere else?

As for Mayuri (the clown-guy), he doesn't generally seem to care enough to get involved in all the politics. He'd probably be interested in seeing how Aizen's experiment turns out, but I don't think he'd be willing to go through all the subtle scheming involved to pull it off himself. He shouldn't really have done much anyways, since Aizen was doing all the work... it's just that I think it would really fit his character to be part of the plot, and so far there isn't really anything militating against it.

It is important how strong Ichigo's energy is. Ishida and Inoue have a normal level of energy. If you passed them in Shinigami clothing you'd think something like, "hmmm.... strangers. Haven't seen them around before? I guess they're just not that noticable." On the other hand if someone saw Ichigo, they'd think, "Holy Shit! Who the hell is that monster!! Even if I hadn't seen him before, surely I'd have at least HEARD of someone like him!" His level of power is unheard of for anyone who isn't a captain. If he isn't one of the 13 captains or at the very least, one of the 13 Vice-Captains, then you'd know he was a stranger.

We know that Ichimaru saw Ichigo at the beging saw Ichigo so everybody should know that red haired kid with giantic sword is a drifter but also they had information about Ichigo fighting menos grande (and Ichimaru might know it from both sources (Shinigami and Hollows :D ))... of couse Ikkaku might don't know exacly how Ichigo looked like because he was slacking off (or something like that)

BTW, hollows and Shinigami both are originally human souls, so shouldn't the combination become human also?
by being a mix of hollow and shinigami Ichigo has much spiritual power but most important is that when he is fighting as a hollow he doesn't fell pain and can't show his 100% even at the edge of dead which is something that Ken-chan might not be able to do... but as we know only shinigami that was mixed with hollow is that strong not in reverse :D

I have a question. In Episode 39 were Ichigo was fighting Kenpachi and he broke Ichigo's sword. Zangetsu brought Ichigo to fight himself. But after, the replica of Ichigo said something strange. He told Zangetsu to raise Ichigo well, because that power is gonna be mine's someday. What did he mean by that?

The hidden trainig room
Yoruichi rescues Ichigo from Byakuya and both went to the underground training room... shortly after, Renji arrives there for his own training... Now I wonder: Wasn't this room supposed to be hidden and shielded? How could Renji find them there and more importantly: If Renji was able to find them, why was nobody else? After all they are still the intruders and have to be arrested.

After re-reading the manga, it looks like Renji just traced Ichigo's energy to the room and broke into it (big explosion at the entrance).

There are two things to consider here:

1) Not all of the captains, much less normal shinigami, have met Ichigo yet and therefore wouldn't know to trace his specific energy (remember, only high-level shinigami can do that anyway).

2) Even though Byakuya is law-abiding, he seemed to have accepted Yoruichi's conditions. He certainly could have tried to follow her, and probably could have caught them. But he didn't, and he lost interest in everybody else on the bridge.

It has to be shielded... doing the Ban-Kai training is probably like a beacon... the energy must be felt miles away, if it's done in an unshielded place.

2) Even though Byakuya is law-abiding, he seemed to have accepted Yoruichi's conditions. He certainly could have tried to follow her, and probably could have caught them. But he didn't, and he lost interest in everybody else on the bridge.I still think it's out of character for him... he is such a pighead concerning the rules, that he is even willing to kill his "sister" if necessary... at least until the end of the SoulSociety-Arc.

Come to think of it: Renji didn't really have a reson to search for Ichigo in his situation. On the other hand, he just escaped from confinement and was in need of a place to hide and do his training. I guess the most likely scenario is, that he knew the room from the past and didn't know that Ichigo would be there.

Maybe that is how Shingami living in the Human world would exit their Gigas. There may be a lot of them. And, with the exception on Kon, the candy is probably a one shot deal.

Don't the Shinigami's usually have something like Rukia's glove, or Urahara's stick to remove the soul? Why should they need candy? Besides, I don't think that this much Shinigamis are living in the human world... they only have to use a gigai, when they lost their powers, which shouldn't really happen this often.

Do you really want your theory to be answered? As soon as you click on the spoiler tag below, a bit of magic and mystery will be removed from the Bleach world. You'll never again be able to wonder, guess and make theories. Instead you'll be chained by knowlege of what is actually going on.

Yes.

Of course everyone suspects it, not just you. The real question is what does it mean to be a hollow/shinigami combo? Now you can start to make theories about the meaning of it. Just don't ask about it here since the rest of the answer is not yet known.

I don't think it was hatred... to me it looked like respect. When Ganju said, that he is a Shiba, Byakuya basically accepted, that he is a strong opponent and therefore should go all-out, out of respect.

I don't remember when they mentioned it, but apparently the Shibas are a former noble clan that have fallen out of favor. I guess they haven't fallen completely out though, because Byakuya still responds to Ganjyu as if he was a fellow noble and therefore worthy of respect.

I'd rather that nobody answered this question in detail here, even in spoiler tags, because it is simply too huge a spoiler! It gives away almost everything. You'll hear the answer before the arc is over, so don't worry about the show ending first.

Look its not really a spoiler, if you actually pay attention, you'll see by watching the ending theme for ep29.
Only captains have the white coat and in the 12th division ending, you see that Urahara has a white coat with the word 十二 on his back which means 12 in chinese/japanese, you should be able to figure it out, I'd rather not directly say it since I'll get banned

The number of the division are not related to the strength of their captains.
Some of the division are based on specific area, but not all.

Hitsugaya's sword design looks like a No-dachi (http://japantrip.tripod.com/nodachi/odachi_gallery.html) to me. I don't think there's really any reason other than it looks cool for a little kid to be weilding a big sword.

They were re-incarnated into Soul Society after dying in the human world.

Don't strain yourself too much over it. There are a few inconsistencies in his world creation, but this isn't really one of them. They probably just died when they were young so they appeared in Soul Society as youngsters.

If you want to discuss the topic any further, aspects of it are already discussed in several threads:

Soul Society = Heaven?

Sorry, i might explain some spoilers to those who havnt seen some episodes but..

1. In the episodes where Rukia and Renji were growing up in the flashbacks, there are really poor looking districts and it seems pretty bad, didnt they claim Soul Society to be like heaven?

2. We know that when people die in bleach, they go to soul society aka heaven. So what happens when people die in soul society?( the Captain Aizen incident) do they go back to earth or just disappear?

3. If your in soul society, it means you're there as a soul right? how can a soul bleed?

 any answers or guesses?

In an early episode, Rukia said that Soul Society was better than Earth in 9 ways out of 10, so the deceased souls were going to a better place. It isn't Heaven. It's just an after life. I'm pretty sure that there is another thread on the subject of the nature of Soul Society. (Finding the thread will be left as an exercise for the student.) If you want to know more about Soul Society, ask there.

1. It is only supposed to be better than Earth, not perfect. (Though having seem SS, I have serious questions about how it is better.)

2. As for What happens to dead souls, they are re-incarnated as mortals on Earth. That subject ALSO has its own thread.

3. Spiritual bodies bleed spirtual blood. They can die also, so this shouldn't be too surprising.

I think it best that the Idea of heaven and hell, fundamentally Western teachings
not be brought up when discussing the Bleach anime that has it's own mythos loosely
based on eastern philosiphies.

But I think that some questions deserve some discussion.

1.) I dont recall Soul Society being claimed to be like heaven... as i recall during Chad's
introductory arc Rukia explains Soul Society to just be better than earth in the fact that you
dont get hungry. Only souls that have the ability to use spiritual powers get hungry
but all souls get thirsty. I found that amusing that Water the source of life is the source of
nourishment even for the dead.

2.) Again I think its best not to think that Soul Society = heaven... Perhaps its better to
think that it's more like The Underworld of Greek Mythology where all souls go to Hades
and either get sent to tarturus or the Elysian Fields... The Elysian Fields shouldnt be
interpretted as being Heaven either since it is part of Hades' Underworld Realm.
Just like how Soul Society has it's well off districts and not so well off districts
The Heavens in greek mythology are after all where the God's live. Anyway what
happens when spiritual beings are "killed" when in soul society? the best
explanation to that question is probably that they get sent back to Earth, or are
reborn. Soul Society relegates souls... and there has to be a balance between it
and Earth. i'm referring to that hourglass model during the Quincy Arc.

3.) This one is a very interesting question. and it begs discussion in my opinion. I will pose
this one question since we are talking about how can souls bleed. In some Christian
teachings Hell is a place of eternal torture or something to that extent where you or left
to your own misery... So i guess that begs the question... how does a soul suffer? how
does a spiritual being feel pain. Makes you wonder hmmm? My hypothesis is this
that souls are aware... that they have minds and by mind i dont mean brain but the ability
to think. Therefore since they are only bound by what they know prior to death, that
after death they are prone to relying on that knowledge. That when in death the
spiritual beings recreate what they know from Earth in order to keep exsisting as spirits

sounds odd and a lil buggy i'm sure... but i guess you could kind of think of it like the Matrix?
that souls need to grasp onto something they know that is tangible to them even if they
are not corporeal

Or maybe they say it is "better" than earth because the ones saying that are Death Gods and they live inside the Court of Pure Souls and don't have to deal with the crap outside their precious walls. Only Death Gods like Rukia or Renji might understand that its not really better than earth at all, its just a place where they don't have to deal with hollows, but instead, they have to deal with Death Gods (whom most of the commoners seem to loathe).

Just learned to watch bleach the last few days...and to be honest i became awesome later on. I watched from 1-46..Anime but have some questions here.

Which Captain is the strongest? Does it go by order? 1-13th?
Hitsugaya is definetly the coolest and threatened Ichimaru...but...is he really stronger?

I mean are the other Captains aware of eachothers power?
The previous strong Captain that fought Ichigo...he enjoyed fighting strong persons...and didnt for that long..why didnt he fought some Captains? Like sparring..

there was a special thread for capitans streangh, but...
numbers have diffrent meaning... capitans are all strong but they don't fight with each other so they don't know much about their Bankai's abbilites (its nomraly banned) but it's like anyone else's Shikai form everybody knows...
the coolest thing about bleach is that even if one shinigami gets owned with one shot doesn't mean he's much weaker (Abarai got owned by Ichigo and was clouse to Bankai - he got one fast critical hit :D )
it's cool that you can't say that one enemy is hella stronger then the other, but diffrent (not like DBZ Freeza<<Cell<<Buu :heh: )

and that's the way i think about it :eyespin: :heh:

It has been said by many that when it comes to the surrounding World in Soul Society, the Mangaka had a brain-fart. The series has so many holes to poke on that it is ridiuculous and not to mention, frustrating. Its just another shounen series where the use of grey matter can only reduce the fun of things. So shutting the constantly nagging brain might enhance the enjoyment for this show, especially when the subject is Soul Society.

The swords are reflections of their souls. It's already been established that released swords return to their normal states when the user loses consciousness. I would imagine broken swords get fixed after rest or some "soul searching."

Just got another few questions:

1#
They are about to kill Rukia....erm shouldnt she then just respawn in the same world? Soul Society? That's where dead people go right?

2#
Whitey-chan/Hitsugaya became extremely fast a captain...as we saw in the flashbacks he wasnt "that" much younger he looked 10 and now as captain 15-16.

Is he such an enormous genius that he became death god & captain so soon?

#1 - No, welcome to a more eastern view of the afterlife. People that die in Soul Society are reincarnated in the living world. On the other hand, supposedly the execution method destroys a soul completely, so she may not come back at all.

#2 - Yeah, Hitsugaya is just that cool. :D

.... I saw vol 8 in English at Waldenbooks a while back. I think you're a little late to preorder #1.
:o thanks! I totally fail at teh intarweb.

I do have a question about the OAV that was released. I started to watch it tonight thinking it would be something different from the anime but it seemed almost exactly the same as the one episode about Ichigo's mother. Anyway, was this put out before the anime was started? (I ask cause its called Jump fiesta, so I thought about the magazine.)

Oh and one more thing... When it is said that Ichigo has to die for Rukia to regain her powers as a death god, wouldn't she have regained them when Ichigo's soul link thing was cut by Byakuya? Or maybe when Urahara seperated Ichigo's soul from his body and severed the chain? That still doesn't make sense to me..

Yeah the OVA thing was put out about a year before the show started to my knowledge. About the second question, in a normal situaition she probally would get her powers back after Byakuya's attack around ep.17 or so. What's really happening however, is a little complex and something that best left to the show to explain since its part of the overall plot for this season.

What is the problem? She started to regain the powers, when Byakuya "killed" Ichigo... After that point Ichigo went back to beeing a normal human.
Regaining the powers don't work in an instant, they return gradually.

I'm going to call a technical foul on that. The first seat is the captain (Ukitake) the second seat in this division is filled by 2 people (the two guys) and Rukia is a fourth seat (though that doesn't make sense, since I don't think she can call out her Soul Slayer).

One more thing:

The anime *has* mentioned why Rukia hasn't gotten back her powers--she says right before Ichigo fights Byakuya something to the nature of "Oh snap, the reason I have no powers is because I've been in a prison of Lethality Stone, which keeps my power down"... or something like that.

Well, Renji knew, that Byakuya tried to sever the links... however a success would result in a dead, or at least a human-only Ichigo. Now there is Ichigo standing before him as a Shinigami, so what conclusion is there for Renji to draw? He doesn't know, that Ichigo developped his own Shinigami powers, so from his point of view Byakuya failed and Ichigo is still using Rukia's powers.

Rukia was a no seat.

I dont think she was really referring to her being naked and getting a reaction, but more of her being a woman than a male cat. But maybe she doesn't realize that people are affected by her you know whats. I doubt she knew a lot of other guys other than Urahara and i can see that Urahara and Ichigo would have the same reaction.

We have seen younger versions of many of the characters in various flashbacks (Rukia, Renji, Yachiro, etc.) so it is safe to say that they do.

For more details, we have a thread to discuss it: [Manga] Aging in Soul Society (some spoilers). The spoilers are minor, but be aware of them before you click the link.

I'm going to call a technical foul on that. The first seat is the captain (Ukitake) the second seat in this division is filled by 2 people (the two guys) and Rukia is a fourth seat (though that doesn't make sense, since I don't think she can call out her Soul Slayer).

I'll put this behind spoilers to be safe... Some of this should have been mentioned in the latest episode, but I didn't remember catching it.

First seat = Ukitake
Second seat = unfilled (previously Shiba Kaien)
Third seat = shared by the two stooges (previously Miyako)

As Morisato said, we've never been given any indication that Rukia actually became a seated member. When she first joined, she told Byakuya that she was unseated. Later on she says that she has been rising in the ranks, but I still wouldn't say that's good enough to assume she was a seated officer.

Besides, does it really make sense to send a seated officer after petty hollows?

There is no reason really, I call it a plothole. No actually now that I think about it, those two 3rd seats are fighting for it so they see who can suck up more.

BTW, did they mention how much time passed since Kaien died?

If not: Maybe it was just a few weeks ago, so they didn't even have the time to search for a replacement.

This doesn't really help much, since we don't have enough information about the aging in SS.
Rukia and the others of her squad were around the same age, they are now... it looks like everyone ages with a different speed.
I really hope the author is going to explain this issue someday.

I've been searching web for pictures of division signs (you know, those that are on teichou's robe and fuku-teichou's arm patch). Haven't found any though. What does those kanji's mean? Is it just the division number?

edit:
Well I figured that one myself, so here's a picture if you are interested:

Those were plain numbers just like I thought.

The Movie that will be coming out will be where Grand Fisher shows up again. So Ichigo will have a grand battle with Grand Fisher to resolve everything. And I believe that it is set up to be after the SS arc.

Shouldn't it be Ichigo who would kill Grand Fisher? Who would it be then, because I would think Ichigo would take care of him because of his personal connection and grudge against Grand Fisher?

There is already an OVA about Ichigo's encounter with the Ground Fisher called Jump Festa 2004: Memories in the Rain + 13 Squad Omake. It is listed on AnimeSuki, so feel free to download and watch it.

As for the second appearance of Ground Fisher, it has happened in the manga, but there is no OVA about that encounter. There are some rumors that there will be such an OVA, but they are unsubstantiated and I personally doubt it.

The OVA was basically the Manga version of Ichigo's encounter with the GF. It differed somewhat from the Anime version but the end result was the same.

Long story short, its unclear if he is good or bad, but in the one ep he's been in he seems to care about Ichigo.

Intersting the 2 time Hollow Ichigo trys to take control are in times when Ichigo is dire need and useing his bankai. So perhaps he isn't trying to take over as much as help out.

Zangetsu is a manifestion of Ichigo's soul (or at least part of it), Hollow Ichigo is part of Ichigo's soul

Zangetsu cares about Ichigo. It was Dark Ichigo said "raise him well..for one day that power will be mine." I don't think that Zangetsu wants Dark Ichigo to win, they simply have a mutual interest in Ichigo becoming stronger.

for example, the short one's got a star shaped one,

everyone else has the genaric rectangle-shaped guard,

the zanpakutou is an extension/reflection of the user's soul/spirit power
meaning it's a representation of it's user's power and the sword's ability

Zangetsu is hilt and guardless until bankai
Senbonzakura is divided into 4 squares
Shinsou has an S shape to it
Suzumushi has a Ring on the guard
Zabimaru has fang reliefs etched into the guard
Haineko has a unique design i dunno what to really call it
Tobiume is eliptical shaped with flower patterns
Yachiru's guard has flower petals
Benihime is a cane and when released to shikai has a unique guard

just noting the different ones, since it isn't just captains but vice captains as well

as to why they get unique ones... probably because it became that way through their
training and maturation of their own powers... it customized itself based on their ability

probably

also when Isshin is introduced as a Shinigami he states that Captain
level shinigami are able to manipulate the size and shape of their zanpakutou...

probably includes lieutenants too i'd imagine

After Ichigo and Co. failed rescuing Rukia, most of them got arrested. But I still wonder, what happened to Hanatarou. There was a short scene, where the 4th Lieutenant talked to him, but I did not really get the point of what she spoke of. So can somebody tell me, where Hanatarou went to, and what he is doing?

I believe that Aizen planed this from the start in order to get the Hougyoku. He must have known that Shunsui and Ukitake would try to free Rukia and that Yama-yii would fight against his two students. Only that way Aizen could be sure not to have to fight against the 10 remaining Captains at the same time during Rukia's execution to get the Hougyoku from Rukia.

If someone whose knowlege of the language exceeds my own sees the need to expand upon this explanation, please feel free.

As for the kanji, while it is a swastika, it doesn't have the same meaning in this usage as it does in Budhist usage, though when it isn't being a kanji, it does have a similar meaning. This symbol actually exists in nearly every culture from Native American to Japanese, so don't be surprised to see it pop up in strange places.

We cannot say for sure. We know by Renji's Zabimaru that Bankai-able Shinigamis don't need to call the zanpakutou's name to go shikai.

For all we know, Aizen's shikai may have no shape at all, look exactly like his regular zanpakutou among other things.

So, Ichigo MAY be under the hypnosis, he may not.

That is an interesting point. It seems that in their shikai state, all Soul Slayers seem to lack that attribute. We'll have to see how this problem is solved if it comes up again. Perhaps Ichigo will learn to seal his shikai. Or perhaps he can do it anyway.

Since this question lies in the realm of speculation, this thread is not the right place to discuss it any further.

A Vastrode is the most powerful level of hollow. Some of them are also Arancars. The two terms are not mutually exclusive.

A Vastrode is a type of Hollow, a type of Menos Grande to be exact. Furthermore, Hitsugaya said that the size of a Vastrode resembles that of a humans more than any other Hollow...he never said that its looks resemble that of a humans too. However, the Vastrode is still not the same as an Arrancar. A Vastrode is still a Hollow, pure 100% Hollow. An Arrancar is a Hollw who has gained Shinigami powers. Vastrode = Hollow, Arrancar = Hollow+Shinigami.

In my personal opinion, the way to distinguish between an Arrancar and a Vastrode would probably be...the mask. Since a Vastrode is still a pure Hollow, its mask should still fully cover its face and be completely intact. With Arrancars, their masks are still on their faces, but they tend to be broken up. That's my assumption anyways. Vastrode = Fully intact mask, Arrancar = Broken mask

As for who is Visored or not, that's the tougher question. They're Shinigami who gained Hollow powers...but in terms of looks, they don't seem to differ from that of normal Shinigami. And as we all know, Shinigami don't look any different from humans either. The only real difference between a Shinigami and a Visored, in terms of appearance, seems to be the Hollow mask. Hirako demonstrated that when he revealed his mask to Ichigo. So, in my humble opinion, the only way to identify a Visored is to look for someone who looks human, has a Zanpakutou, and a Hollow mask...which is difficult because if the other Visored are anything like Hirako, they don't go around flaunting their masks, so it'd be difficult to tell them apart from other Shinigamis... =/

I started watching Bleach about 2 weeks ago, and just caught up to episode 62 4-5 days ago. I'm not asking for Bleach, or where I can get it, I was just wondering when fansubbed verions usually come out. I prefer the lunar anime versions, is there a sort of time line for these things. Once again, just a question of when it can be expected, not asking for it, in any way shape or form.

Err...I dunno if I can really answer this, since last time I mentioned groups in my post it got edited...but I'll just answer it anyways. I suppose if they don't want me mentioning groups they'll just edit my post again. I'll apologize now just in case I wasn't supposed to mention groups at all.

Dattebayo tends to release an episode around 24 hours after it was broadcasted over in Japan (or is it after the raw is released? Not quite sure on that part...)

Bleach-Society tends to release quite quickly too. They have gotten a release out before Dattebayo at least once, but usually they tend to be a bit slower. I'd say on a range, they can be as fast as ~24 hours, although they occasionally take a little longer (day and a half to two days or so).

Lunar, who I also prefer, used to release around 2 days after Bleach was broadcasted (on TV on Tuesday, releases around late Wednesday/early Thursday). Now, they tend to take their time with it. No real approx. time when they release anymore. Sometimes they release a few days after it was on in Japan, sometimes a week after...sometimes even longer. But they have something like 4 projects on their plate right now, so... =p

Again, I apologize if I broke any rules with this. :upset:

Edit by NoSanninWa: As long as an anime isn't licensed or produced by MFI you are welcome to mention groups all you want. Once it becomes licensed you'll be required to stay mum about it.

I hope that this ends your confusion.

I'll take it your a Byakuya fan :p. No, he hasn't appeared yet. He is a pretty popular character, so I can bet he'll come in sooner or later.

Edit: I have a question myself. Anyone know where I can get the lyrics for Ichirin no Hana (Japanese and English)

In the recent episodes, Aizen has been explaining his masterplan. He explains that once a Shinigami has mastered all four skill areas of a Shinigami, there is no way you can become any more powerful without fusing your soul with a Hollow.

Can we assume that Aizen has mastered all areas?

Can someone please fill me in on the Arrancar Levels (by levels I mean Espada, etc), and the difference of a Vizard and an Arrancar. They say arrancar's are hollows that have taken off thier mask's, but what about the hyouku thing? And are the Vizards bad guys? Help would be appreciated.

You know how each Arrancar has a number, right? Numbers 1-10 are called the Espadas, who are believed to be at least captain level. The numbers higher than 10 are weaker, who we have seen getting dispatched.

A vizard is a shinigami to hollow hybrid. An arrancar is a hollow to shinigami hybrid. The "hyouku thing" is a device that can make hybrids by changing shinigamis and hollows back and forth.

Vizards are neither good nor bad as of right now. We don't know their intentions yet, except that they want Ichigo.

The Arrancar don't really have "levels" in a manner of speaking...it's more like a numbering or ranking system. The Arrancar that are numbered 11 and up are done so by their "birth"...basically, by order in which they were created. Apparently the top 10 numbers were reserved for those with the most destructive power and (for Grimmjow at least) are numbered personally by Aizen. So far the only Arrancar we know to be an Espada for sure is Grimmjow, and he's #6. The Espadas also give orders to the 11+ Arrancars.

A Vizard/Visored is basically a Shinigami who has gained Hollow powers. An Arrancar is a Hollow who has gained Shinigami powers. Visoreds also possess intact Hollow masks that they can seemingly hide, while Arrancars often have broken masks still covering parts of their faces. The Arrancars also have a unique way of releasing their Zanpakutou as well (we've yet to see how Visoreds release their Zanpakutous).

You don't simply became an Arrancar just by removing your mask (as demonstrated by Orohime's brother early on in the series), the Hollow itself actually has to obtain Shinigami powers somehow before it becomes a true Arrancar. As for the Hougyoku, it's a device created by Urahara that erases the line that separates Hollows and Shinigami: it can turn Hollows into Shinigamis and vice-versa.

As for the Visored, we've only been introduced to two of them so far: Hirako and Hiyori. As Arti mentioned the only action we've seen them take so far is attempting to recruit Ichigo to their side, but at this point it would seem like they would not be on the side of the Hollow/Arrancars, or on the side of the Shinigami. They're probably just looking out for their best interest. So...I guess it all depends on your definition of "bad guy". If the Shinigami representing Soul Society are the good guys...well, they may end up fighting the Visored at some point, so it that sense that can be labelled as bad guys. However, I'd just refer to them as a third faction...somewhat neutral. That's just my opinion though.

No...we haven't even seen much of Aizen either except for when Ulquiorra and Yamii reported back to him after doing some recon on Ichigo. I guess that biggest question at the moment is if Aizen has used the Hougyoku on any one of them (Aizen, Gin or Tousen) yet. But unfortunately, no...nothing heard about them since they escaped from Soul Society.

It's true that Soi Fong might not have been able to cut Aizen because Renji, Ichigo and Komamura couldn't...but you have to take into consideration the fact that Soi Fong wasn't there when Aizen fought those three. Therefore, she had no idea that he's been blocking their attacks with his bare hands, so in her mind she probably believes that she would have no problems slitting his throat. My thoughts on the subject, that's all.

As for the Vice-Captains...I think they were just restraining them, though I also found it odd that V-Cs were restraining Gin and Tousen instead of Captains...but then again I suppose they thought that even if they [Gin & Tousen] could break free...they couldn't really run anywhere since they were surrounded by Captains and whatnot.

About Soi Fong, did her Zanpakuto's ability need to actually hurted her target, not just hit them, to be effective?
Her Soul Cutter only needs to touch her target, not hurt them. Still, if her opponent has such a strong reiatsu that it can completely negate her ability to touch them, that might stop her power from working. There are not examples of such a thing so it would just be speculation.

I don't think this needs to be in spoiler tags but...I'll just do it anyway..

Was Urahara banned because he created the Gigai or Hyougyouku?!

Also..Aizen definitely said "At the time he chose to hide it in you, Kuchiki Rukia. But, when I found out about this, you had already disappeared into the material world." I thought the Hyougyouku had been hidden in the Gigai given to Rukia by Urahara. BUT, if she had it before she went to the material world, then how did it come to be inside of her? Especially without her knowing? So confused! o.o

Well...since you asked in spoiler tags, I'll reply in spoiler tags.

According to Aizen's explanation in chapter 175 of the manga, he was banned for the creation of the Gigai.

"However, in the past, he created a Gigai completely undetectable. And for this, he was exiled from Soul Society. There is another reason for why he was cast out. The Gigai devoured the spiritual power of the Shinigami. Because of that, the Shinigami using the Gigai would never recover his/her power. The Shinigami's coordination with the Gigai diminishes and eventually that Konpaku would become powerless."

So it seems that the Hougyoku was placed inside of Rukia before she had to use the energy devouring Gigai. After all, if the Hougyoku was hidden within the Gigai, all Aizen would have had to do was get Rukia to be brought back to Soul Society, remove her from the Gigai, then claim the Hougyoku. But it was inside of Rukia, hence why he needed to extract it from her with that device that Urahara created.

i'm pretty new to manga, but how does bleach manga work?
we have chapter by chapter right per week right? is this up to the discretion of the scanlating groups?
so does that mean that there's a bleach comic containing the current and upcoming chapters, and that the scanlating groups bought one and decided to release week per week?
or is one chapter released every week by kubo tite? (rather, the publishing company) and if so, does that mean that bleach is a feature in another magazine and that once there's enough chapters to fill a whole book..then they'll release it?
or is there a whole new system?

Aizen did get away in the manga, so our heroes return to earth, while Aizen is somewhere else planning out his..eh..plan.
The fillers most likely take place on earth, in the manga some shinigami's came to earth aswell. Seems to me you can place the events in the fillers between the moment they got back to earth and the moment something significant happened in the manga.

That's basically how it works. Every week a new chapter of Bleach is released in another magazine (I think it's Shounen Jump...I forget...) and someone goes to buy the actual release over in Japan. They then scan it and upload it to the internet, which results in the raws you see floating around. Most scanlation groups have their own raw provider (not all though) and at that point, when the actual scanlated manga gets released is up to the group.

Edit by Moderator: Please be aware that the Bleach manga is licensed by Viz. Any scanlations that might be found of this manga are a violation of that license. Discussion of where to find scanlation is off-limts and will result in bans.

Don't you people watch the series, before asking you questions? And how about searching, if it was asked before? (Okay, since the forum lost a lot of posts I'm not sure if the question is still there).

It was clearly explained by Rukia, that there is an endless circle of Souls coming from Earth to Soul Society and vice versa. So obviously, souls who die in Soul Society have to be reborn in the human world.

Why Hitler used it for propogation ? Concerning the swastika, while all of that is true, it is irrelevant to answering the question. The swastika has counter-clockwise arms. The symbol with clockwise arms is the manji, or ban. They each have different meanings. In this thread, please don't post unless you are asking a question, or answering one. I'll leave your post alone in case someone is interested in the (only vaguely relevant) history of the swastika.

The above symbols are japanese numbers in kanji ? what do those symbols below numbers represent .I was wondering if it was random art or held some significance.

Rephrases for Kona: I known those are symbols of the division ... But are these symbols have a deeper meaning that ie do they signify some property/talent of that squad .eg zaraki's 11 div is the best in zanjutsu and never backs off from a physical confrontation does that symbol hold any significance to that property .

That was the intial reason for this whole post ,I wanted to know do the symbols signify any deeper meaning

I gotta question and even though i've watched bleach a long time i just recently wondered:

Tousen said The 3 steps to become a captain where:
[1] Pass a series of steps by 3 Captains
[2] You must be recommended by atleast 6 Captains and atleast 3 of the remaining 7 should approve it.
[3] Defeat the current Captain Head on with 200 members of division as witness.

Now if you'll think logically it's weird that:

- Most abilities are unknown to eachother (alot of suprises between captains, vice captains)
- Ukitake & Shinsui became the first captains so they must be a million years old and have become captain in a different way.

So please so explanation about that...

My other question is:

You got living world (earth), hell, soul sociaty (wrote it wrong, nvm) & heaven.
So how do people get into heaven??

NoSanninWa
2006-02-14, 17:45
Becoming a captain: Those aren't steps. Those are options. Fulfilling any ONE of those requirements will make you a captain. For instance, Kenpachi became a captain using the third method. He didn't fulfill the first or second requirements at all.

Heaven: Nothing about Heaven has ever been revealed. We don't know if people can get to Heaven when they die. It is possible that Heaven only exists as an administrative zone for rulership of the world. Consequently, this question can not be answered with anything other than wild guesswork. This is not a thread for wild guesswork.

This is probably a dumb question but it's been bothering me for some time now....how come the people in Soul Society get older if they're "dead"? Like in the anime, Rukia was sent there as a baby but now she is a teenager (or just a really short adult)? I noticed that with Renji and a bunch of the other shinigami too.

It seems pretty clear that they do age. The specifics of how they age and why each person stops getting older at different ages is unknown.

If anyone has theory on this subject that they want to talk about, you'll have to start a new thread to discuss it because you're just speculating. (Lots of people, like myself, have theories, but it would be wrong to go into that here.)

Can someone explain the Aging in soul society for me please? , i've heard that only people born in soul society age and people who die stay in the form they died in when they go to soulsociety. Then i heard Rukia aging, same with Renji and the fact that some people say they died, which this contradicts the first explanation. So..... please explain how the aging thing works plus the other fact that when you die it can be from age as well, According to bleach you are sent to a place called Soul society which represents a Heavenly///Nirvana plane of existence. So if you die and go to this Soul society how can you age in Soul Society then die again, where do you go to after that?

I have a question, where can i dl this, is it possible to get it off lime wire cause i see episodes but they got weird fishy numbers attatched to them so.... and when i dl other anime shows (eg. Full Metal Alchemist) all i see is the name but for bleach its like 3E34A169.

We won't help you with Lime Wire here. This is a BitTorrent forum so you will have to look elsewhere for other downloading methods.

As for the number after the episode name and number such as [Lunar] Bleach - 63 v2 [h264][00A11870], that is called a CRC. It is used to double-checking for errors. If you have any other questions about CRCs, do NOT ask them here. All CRC related conversation goes in Is my file corrupt? How you can check.

What is Urahara's shikai , If you think carefully Urahara as a taicho didnt carry a walking stick/cane around .He started using it only in Karakura.

*So the 1st transformation (nOkiro Benihime ) cant be called his shikai

*2ndly the blood mist sheild is activated by Urahara's blood (Nake benihime). And We can argue it may be a technique because Urahara and Byakuya are known to be exceptionally good in Kido

So cant we say his shikai is still not known ?

NoSanninWa
2006-03-13, 17:29
Nope. His shikai is when he calls out Benihime's name. We saw his sword take on its shikai form.

The "first transformation" you point to, was him drawing the sword from his walking stick. That sword was quite thin and the walking stick was just a sheath. There was no transformation, just drasing it from the sheath. Back in the days when he was a captain, he just used a different sheath. There is one other detail to consider, but if you read the manga, you can read what is below. If you don't read the manga, it doesn't give away plot, so decide for yourself if you think it is a spoiler.

It was said that a captain can control the size of his sword. Otherwise all captain would have ridiculously unweildy huge weapons because their reiatsu is so large. Perhaps Urahara compresses his sword more these days so that it can pretend to be a cane.

Soi Fon has orange.

NoSanninWa

Nobody knows if there is a reason for the different colors because the creator hasn't said anything about it. My personal guess is that he got bored drawing them all the same color so he decided that they were allowed to personalize their uniforms with their favorite colors. :D

Other than that, no official word exists, so there isn't much to say in this thread. (It isn't a speculation thread.) If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will post really soon saying that the Bleach Databook has the answer. ;)

Human world only.

When Ichigo meets that Vaizard with the bobbed hair for the first time outside the classroom he gets kinda agitated and therefore releases a ton of reiatsu and there is an echo. But for some reason there doesnt seem to be a limiter placed on Ichigo. The only thing that is power limited in soul society is the release of their Zanpakutou. They arent supposed to release it inside the Court Of Pure Souls. Witch they do after there is a decree that you can do so by Yamamoto Sou Taicho.

It probably reflects personality and skills more than their strength.

For instance, people with skills to heal get put into 4th division and obsessed battle freaks get put into the 11th division. Other than that I think they just get put into a division whose commander they idolize.

It makes sense that the commander of the first division would be the most respected and intelligent, not the strongest. He needs to have skills to lead the Gotei 13. That implies that he needs to be massively strong, but it doesn't mean that he has to be the absolute strongest.

Besides, the who point is meaningless because Aizen never let anyone know how strong he is. If nobody knows that Aizen is the strongest, why should they give him that position based on strength? This would be true even if Yamamoto wasn't the best suited for it personality-wise.

Thewanderer

There seem to be quite a lot of noble families in SS (Ukitake for example comes from a low-class aristocrat family), but there are only four great ones. Two of which are the Kuchiki clan and the Shihouin clan. The other two are as of yet unknown. Once, the Shiba family was also a great noble family, but for unkown reasons they aren't one anymore.

Quick question....Where were everyone's bodies when they were in Soul Society? They didn't physically go to a spiritual world, so....did they just leave them at Uruhara's shop? Did they just lay there "empty" while they were gone? Did he stick some mod-souls in them to keep them alive?

That would be a funny explanation of the mod-souls currently shown in the filler episodes! Ririn occupied Inoue, Nova occupied Chad, that other guy occupied Ishida, Kon occupied Ichigo, and Rukia's gigai just layed there. :)

Yes, she is, but only of low nobility.

Urahara explains how but I kinda forgot.

He uses the so called "Reishihenkanki" which changes the "kishi" (which makes up things in the living world) into "reishi" (which is the main component of souls).

Then you don't know much about nobility. Every noble family is aware of heirarchy and what place their family has in it. Only one can be the king after all. Under that are other noble families which are served by lesser nobles. Nobility is all about heirarchy.

Yes, because in the Middle Ages only the King was nobility and all the various Lords and assorted province rulers under him were just trash.
Sigh... No. There is a long distance between a duke and trash. In Western tradition, King > Duke > Viscount > Baron. But all of those are nobility.

Hanatarou?! Now I've seen everythin' :D

Interesting with Aizen's, the chinese intrepretion of that name and the meaning of the two phrases literally gives out the impression of illusion (Hypnosis). First two words means flower in the mirror, and the last two means moon on the water (As in the reflection).

And Ikkaku's means ghostly lamp, kinda doesn't fit what the Houzukimaru actually does...

Actually, that's kind of a misuse of the english word because it isn't really a double issue because there are no double chapters in it.

Basically, it just means they won't publish a issue for one week because of Golden Week (which is a collection of four national holidays within seven days).

When he met her in the human world and gave her a gigai :)

NO! :frustrated: Why arethere still people believing he did it then? He did it long before that time!

It must have been at the time, Rukia was still a (soul)baby, because she doesn't remember it.

NoSanninWa
2006-05-13, 03:58
It would make sense that he put the Hougyuko into her when he gave her the gigai, but that is definitely not true. When Aizen revealed all, he explained that he was already looking for Rukia when she had gone missing because he figured out that the Hougyuko was inside her. So as soon as she was found, he immediatedly killed the Central 46 and put out a warrant for her arrest in their name.

That means he realized that the Hougyuko was inside of her before he ever found out she had made contact with Urahara. In fact the gigai was a later contrivance that Urahara made to destroy the Hougyuko which he had previously put into her soul.

The actual time Urahara put the Hougyuko into Rukia is unknown, but it was definitely before she ever met Ichigo.

IMHO it doesn't even make sense in the first place.

You can just think about this:
If he really did put it into her, when he gave her the Gigai, where should he have hid it up to this point? And why should he decide to change the location then. This just doesn't add up.

That's why I can't understand, how someone could possibly assume he gave it to her together with the Gigai.

Thats not true I second our Moderator san .. ^^ .
Actually Urahara used the Gigai to weaken Rukia's Leatsu and contain her Shinigami powers ..and his goal was the Gigai to merge with her soul rendering Hyogoku useless.

This is incorrect Urahara went missing 100 yeas ago. Rukia came to SS as a baby about 160 years ago. she lived in the slums till about 60 years ago and then spent 10 years in school training. the fact that Azein found out where it was hidden from the notes that Urahara left behind means that he had to have hidden it before he left. The gigai was just a way to get rid of it permently

When Aizen said becoming a hollow removes the power cap, can we assume that all vizards and/or aacanars have already reached their genkai? In otherwords, is it safe to say that once your bankai is acheived you've already hit the glass-ceiling?

NoSanninWa

No, that's not safe to say. It is quite possible that they did not reach their limit before becoming a shinigami/hollow hybrid. That was not established as a fact.

It also hasn't been established if simply becoming a hybrid gives them an automatic power boost regardless of their earlier limit, though it has been implied.

The character data featured in vol. 18 says:

"He is the eldest son from the low-class aristocrat Ukitake Family. His siblings consists of five brothers and two sisters. Including his own siblings, he basically supports most of his family members by himself."

However, aristocrat and noble are not neccesarily the same thing. Aristocrat may refer to anyone with a sufficient level of power (political and financial (or SS equivelant)) the 4 (or 5) noble families are probably more like, say, the tribes of Israel the average person doesn't have their last name as the tribe that they are from.

just a theory

voldy18
2006-07-04, 11:42
Well, both "aristocrat" and "noble" mean "a member of the nobility". :P

Actually, I think what really devides the four Great Families from the rest is basically that they are older than the rest. This way they were able to gain more power, more money and more respect than the others over time. I mean, Byakuya is the 28th head of the Kuchiki Family. This means the family is at the very least 3000 years old. Given that Shinigami can live many hundreds of years the family is probably far, far older.

NoSanninWa
2006-07-05, 02:25
Actually I hate to mention this, but aristocrat does not mean "member of the nobility." The word aristocrat is a broad category that has meant different things at different points in history. It certainly includes members of the nobility, but there have been times and places when it referred to gentry or other entitled members of society who were not nobility.

Of course, the manga does not say aristocrat. It has a Japanese word that someone decided to translate as aristocrat. I don't know how exactly he chose that word. He might have agreed with voldy18 about the meaning, or else he might have intended the meaning which fizzmaister mentioned.

If the translator for this is voldy18, then of course he is correct. Otherwise, could someone who understands Japanese please look at volume 18 and tell us the actual word that was used and try to translate it for us?

aristocrat = member of the aristocracy and an aristocracy is a social system where
the upper crust of society hold the political power

this includes wealthy land owners and nobles... people of influence

nobility = people with inherited titles... Royalty, Duchies, Family Leaders in the
case of Bleach people like Byakuya who inherited the Title of Head of the Kuchiki
Clan or Yoruichi inheriting the Title Tenshi Heisouban

All Nobles would be considered Aristocrats, but not all aristocrats are nobles

it's like in geometry... All squares are polygons, but not all polygons are squares

there's been no indication that Ukitake has inherited any title and the inclusion of the
phrase "low-class aristocrat" should automatically tell you he isn't nobility

Lol. I actually checked an online dictionary before I said "Well, both 'aristocrat' and 'noble' mean 'a member of the nobility'." Maybe I should have added a "can".

The thing is, NoSanninWa is right. We don't know what the original text said. And no, I'm not the translator. I got the information from here (http://www.ukitake.org/profile.html).

I don't know if Ukitake is considered as a member of the nobility in SS because Kubo isn't very clear about the whole thing. :/ Really, we only know for sure that Soi Fong comes from a lower noble family, who serves the Shihouin family.
Then there are Kira and Ōmaeda who are from rich families. However it's never clearly said whether they are considered as nobility or not.

Still, Soi Fong at least proves that the nobility of SS doesn't only consist of the Great Four.

Well Soi is nobility but not Ukitake Byakuya Kaien Shinouin nobility .Well it has all to do with Shogun style of functioning in Mideval Japan

So it would be better to stop comparing Soi's nobility to the Europaen nobility and claiming she is a noble

Samurais who were directly serving under Daemo or Shogun and who were in charge of his protection .Sometimes were considered as low class nobles.that was their official rank or status in the court .

Well according to the code of bushido not everyone could become a samurai let alone hold a katana .And the Japanese Society was a class based society. So that makes Soi a low class noble .

And yes Ukitake is a from a noble family .^^

I don't see any evidence that he has a different voice actor in episode 44. Since the voice actor for his grandfather in episode 44 is listed on ANN, this is probably not an oversight. I believe that in episode 44, as in the rest of the show, his voice actor is Noriaki Sugiyama (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=3176), who has already proven her ability to play young boys in the part of Sasuke, from Naruto and several other parts.

Ichigo is a Vizzard ( Shinigami~Hollow ) and not a shinigami.

Vizzrads the shinigami side is more Active and hollow side is usally dormant unless called for

Shinigami's side of Zanapakuto is Zanagetsu

Hollow Side of Zanapakuto is Clone Hollow

Earlier his hollow side was dormant hence only Zangetsu later the Hollow side became more active taking over.Once that happened in Ichigo the transformation too happened in Zangetsu's world

Now Zangetsu is missing or subdued

If you read the manga then you should have the answer to your own question. >.>
I think that you have to re-read some chapters.

Oh. The grammar was so bad that I couldn't figure out that he was spoiling! For the sake of those of you whose ability to understand ichigo112 was better than my own, I'm adding spoiler tags. Unfortunately I still can't figure out what he was saying, though I can think of two possibities.

ichigo112, please learn to talk in coherent sentences because I don't understand a thing you are saying.

Hi.
I've looked everywhere for a list of all the different demon spells used, but haven't found any. So I'm here to try my luck.
For example: Way of Destruction 33: Soukatsui
Can someone make me a list of most of them? (Includes: Destruction and Binding)
Thanks ahead of time!:)

There hasn't been any raw out for episode 95, so it seems ANN has got this one right! Conclusion: No Bleach this week.

The question could have been asked in the Q&A or in the episode discussion thread.

There's something I've been wondering that I'm trying to find an answer for in both anime & manga...

Does Kisuke himself use a gigai? Considering Chad and Inoue can see him and interact with him before they gain their powers that seems to say yes, and yet there are times when he does not appear to have the restraints of a gigai (at least the ones mentioned in the anime). Or is it possible he has a personal gigai that allows him to use his full shinigami powers and yet keeps him in the material world indefinitely?
