For large images, wallpapers and hi-rez scans, let's all try to use the "thumbnail" feature when uploading to places such as ImageShack.us (http://www.imageshack.us). This will cut down on thread load times and will also give our pictures a higher priority at such free image hosts as ImageShack.

Sounds good, I'll get us started on the wallpaper front.. heres one I made REAL fast in Photoshop the other day. Once I had painstakingly extracted the scan I really could not be bothered to make a decent background. Shame, but ah well. I'm getting an Intuos3 tablet for Christmas, that will no doubt improve my efficency.. (can anyone tell me if the A4 is worth the extra £100 over the A5 version? I'm currently going for A5)

Copernic is useful. I run a Pro version, but not the latest as far as I am aware. The image search function alone hasn't ever gotten me many decent results, but doing a web search has had me stumbling across some cool (and some scary ;) ) stuff. Sometimes I prefer Google, but it's a good utility to have.

I have a question since this is a utility type program how does it stand up with doing searches in Japanese or looking for images on Japanese sites?

Copernic, if used right, can produce good "web" results, but pure image searches, as Preston mentions, are fair to poor...and there isn't a "blog" search feature yet, so a Google or Yahoo blog search will produce better seaches of non-English sites.

Thanks on that note. 'Dogpile' I remember that one when the internet was really up and going. No where as flashy as it is today. Hahahaha!!

I pretty much use 'Google' and do searches in Japanese. I also use some of the fanart search engines. I've managed to find some decent fanart but not the ones posted here. With the exception of 'Maruto', who I've known for quite some time now. So I've always kept up with him. Actually, I have one of those 'Mai-HiME' anthologies featuring a segment he did. I'm sure 'Sunrise' will eventually start posting new artbooks.

I just wish that 'Sunrise' when they put these books together they would put in ALL and I mean ALL of the commercial art used for the series. It's crazy enough that you find a image here and find another there. Out of all the artbooks that I did purchase there's always images that didn't make it. Maybe they're saving them up for some "ulitmate" collection.

Great shot Lone Wolf!

Hisayuki-san, always manages to come up with some great composition ideas for the the magazines. I tell you those "meister" robes are very thick. As you can see the pose is right for 'Arika's "energetitude" but 'Shizuru' comes off like, I can be cool too. Being "hyper" is not her style. She's just to cool for that. But 'Haruka' is a different story. :p

I like it even without natsuki. ;)
Shizuru is not JUST a bubuzuke-onna since the first ep, I rather want to see a different pose that suits more to otome-- more than hands-together with a smile/creepy smile of Fujino Shizuru-- but a Shizuru Viola, meister and one of the five pillars: tough yet a woman who's heart fight for her purest feelings of a human soul. Seeing Shizuru smile like that really warmed up my heart!:) And Arika, too, that robe is looking nicer every minutes. This is such a nice promo.;)

Mm.. I don't know where that picture was comming from, but I do know that it is a poster. You're right, Akane does look a lot like Nao in that picture, but I doubt we will ever see Nao with such an innocent, non-evil smile on her face like that, whatever people might think, I don't think Nao is the goody-goody helper for Arika/Nina some people seemed to have classified her as already (and arn't we overdue for more Nao on screen? She better have been doing something cool and Nao-like..). Erstin is more like 'Eh? Why am I being hugged in this uncomfortable position? I want to keep my jaw, if thats ok..', but undoubtably, still cute.

EDIT: Eh, I blatantly forgot Nao's conversation with Akane latest episode, so forget it.. *__*

Tell me, is the background really that simplistic or dull? I felt I had reached a suitable equilibrium with the scan.

The theme of background is very good chosen, but the bed has a little different perspective than characters. They don't belongs together. But it's still nice, and I can shut my eyes to those little "bug" :)

back ground is well chosen but it doesnt match the painted style of Nina and Ernstin, also shadow location of the bed is somewhat coming for the wrong side compared to the pictures, shadow fall of Enrstin and Nina on the bed would be nice too, makes it look more like a real picture, you can see that it has both characters clipped out and pasted on the bed, Nina and Ernstin demand shadows :D

i wouldrecommend another coller for the background, so that Nina and Ernstin fall out beter, in other words it the collor thats a bitt dull

but thats my opinion ^^, i like the rest of it, you can do things beter then i can

O.O But they.. ah.. have shadows.. direction of light is top left to bottom right, perhaps at the top at bottom it isn't so noticable as I screwed up the outer glow on the bars.. working fast, not paying much attention.

So perspective switch? Pure ease with PhotoshopCS2. (Of course, since the scan is almost completely 2d, getting the right perspective might be a little difficult). Colour change? Already 2/3 done. (To red) Touch up the shadows from Nina and Erstin that fall on the bed? Again, easy, simply increase the opacity. And, umm.. the cell shaded feel of the background was intentional.. and faster.. seems I'm getting mixed feedback on that respect.

Consider it a work in progress.. feedback much appreciated, I'm new to this style of artwork in Photoshop (I've been on the bandwagon since version 7, but only ever made a few anime wallpapers), and the feedback helps me improve. And it is not necessarily a freakin' father complex! I have explained multiple times! Errrg...

Actually it was the Hisayuki who did this image (not Sunrise) but yeah, if Nina were to have a Meister robe then it would definitely have to show up in the Anime firt otherwise Hisayuki's website would have some major spoilerage.

Close, but unfortunately I believe this is an instance of Japanese colloqialism (shudder). The middle line is closer to "Being a good child means you get a present".

奈緒 is the meaning of a name. Yoi no ko isn't a name, obviously, which is why I think its a colloquial phrase. This is sort of a guess, but I'm willing to bet on it.

Anyway, you got the gist already.

ok, here is a minor tweak suggestion again:

when playing VBR files the "XXXkbps stereo 44KHz" jitters because the character "1" is a bit more narrow than the rest. [edit: actually every char has its own length :/]

a few solutions i thought of (i dont know if they are feasible or how much work it is to code them) would be:
1) to align the string to the right instead or left, though then it wouldnt be properly aligned with the scrolling text.
2) to remove the number from the string and put it in a separate left-aligned container.
3) to replace the changing "XXXkbps" text with "YYYkbps VBR", displaying the average variable bitrate in the mp3 tag.
4) to leave it as it is, VBR files are rare anyway ^^
