Dont know what to make of it. There's alot going on right form the get go its very comedic which is what I liked about Mai-hime in the first place. There's lots of familiar faces. Looks interesting to say the least. The story seems to be about the son, Mashiro, who is out to investigate his mother's [who was some type of royalty] death. He is going to school and runs into Arika. Then he wears his mother's clothes to look like a girl and meets Nina Wong who might replace my favorite Mikoto hime. Anywho they get attacked by some robot who is after Mashiro and Arika uses her hime powers to defeat it with the aid of the jewel Mashiro is carrying.

wow, have to say here is some bold story direction they are taking. I wonder if the basic setting of the manga and anime will be the same. No wonder we don't see a male lead yet in the available info, if the anime and manga share the same basic setting, that will mean Mashiro is the male lead! :heh: Anyway I actually quite like the first chapter, it's full of surprises and the battle scene is super cool Mashiro gets assassinated at the very start? A boy who has a crush on Shizuru disguises himself as Mashiro? that's some surprise start :eyespin:

Haruka is still cool and hotblood as ever with her 300mm cannon :cool: Quite a crazy cool first chapter I have to say :D

Wow, I sort of fell over when I saw this...

It's kind of an interesting idea, making Mashiro a boy who is the lead male disguised as his mother. This opens the door to many, many "comedic" situations for Mashiro. Watch Arika fall in love with Mashiro and her get all nuts about liking a girl, to then only discover she's...a HE. XD

It would appear the boy has a jewel...a magical item he can use to change into anyone he wants. Well, still need to go through the rest of the manga, but so far I hope the anime does what the Manga is doing, it makes for some good comedy.

So it doesn't seem to be an alternative universe, but rather in the future? I'm referring to Fumi's scythe statue?

That "Fumi" was most likely not the Fumi we know, but rather another Fumi from the Mai Otome world.

Finished going through the manga...and I love it.

Mashiro carries the...GEM

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Nina knows Mashiro's secret already. Like the first manga, the HiMEs need to make contact with a male to unleash their true powers. This was done by some yuri-iffic fun when Arika and Mashiro kissed. :heh: Doing this made Arika into a Z-Type HiME. She had a new battle outfit and everything! XD

Upon further interaction between the two girls, (Mashiro hugging Arika) the GEM transformed Arika's weapon and made it super charged. Not only that, but gave Arika wings. This lead to the enemies destruction.

I love how this is going. It's got everything Mai-HiME had and more. Some creative twists indeed. The fact that the lead male is a female for most of the series, as I said, it adds alot of potential for some fun scenes...which they went and did right off the bat in the first manga chapter...r0fl.

Good going to the guys at the writing staff department for Mai-Otome. Though I'd like this to be in the anime, I wouldn't be surprised if they change it all.

now I think about it, maybe it is a marketing ploy from Sunrise? from the HiME anime and manga, we know the very basic setting is similar, but the story is told from different perspectives, so maybe the anime will start from Arika's perspective and won't reveal Mashiro's "secret" right from the start, so it will keep us guessing whether Mashiro is a boy or a girl the whole time and generate lots of discussions and speculations when Arika and Mashiro goes closer and closer (as hinted by the promo posters). And midway through the series they can reveal Mashiro to be a boy for a surprise twist and to satisfy the shotacons, or keep Mashiro as a girl to satisfy the lolicons and yuri fans. Either way it'll help Sunrise to get more attention and possibly more viewers :p

Well, maybe... the way you put it, dreamless, it's making sense. Hmmmm.

It's strange. I'm really shocked that they decided to drop the manga shoe before the anime started. One of the reasons why Mai HiME was so exciting was that nobody really KNEW what was going to happen. This time we don't just already "know" the "originals" behind the many characters, but also the basic setting due to the manga?

The "feel" is 100% Mai HiME manga for sure. I hope they'll manage to give the anime a slightly more "serious" tone again :)

The manga for mai-hime started earlier than the anime, its just that no one distroed it. Mai-Otome is following the same schedule as mai-hime, the manga starts in august followed by the anime in september.

I'm just curiouse what they'll be doing with the anime. I think Mashiro being a boy is brilliant because it's different and random. Shizuru and Natsuki were populare, so make the lead male a female who is Arika's love interest and make two groups of fans happy, the shoujoai crazy guys and the bishounen loving girls.

Now, the Z-Type HiME...no childs yet? I hope they appear. In the meantime we've got the girls relying on another person to unleash they're powers to do any good fighting. Then there is the GEM, which seems to power them up further. Midori would love this Henshin type set up they've got going. :heh:

The battle costume Arika has is pretty good. Atleast they just didn't put her in a skirt for panty shots every battle. I wonder if the design is different for each HiME.

I don't think in the manga, maybe in the anime. Because in Mai Hime the manga, Tate is the main character along with Mai and Natsuki. But in the Mai Hime anime, Mai, Natsuki, and Mikoto are the main characters. Still, this is only the first chapter, nothing can be sure yet.

Here's the deal with our Mashiro-Kun....

The real Mashiro was killed and she left behind a son. Her son decides to use this magical GEM to turn himself into the teenage version of his mother to get into the all girls school for Maiden candidates, (errr something) so he can be yuri with them all day and night. Ok...I'm sure he didn't intend for that to happen, it's just a bonus, r0fl. :heh:

But really, does anyone know exactly WHY he transformed himself into a girl anyway? My guess he wants to investigate his mother's death and by attending the school he can find out maybe.

That was a speculation from another board that I ran into. Since I haven't read the first chapter myself yet, it was also a speculation on my part.

Who knows....maybe in later chapters we may find that he's related somehow...again just speculation. Nothing is ever concrete in the Hime world ;)

Though now I'm a bit curious and may actually download that file. If there are no lesbos in the storyline, I'll drop it :)

well, that boy's mother is definitely some special person, judging by that "Sapphire of Deep Sky" (Soukyuu no Seigyoku) he carries... however I think so far it's pretty clear that his mother is not Mashiro-hime, and from Nina Wong's reaction, even Mashiro-hime is not supposed to have that Sapphire.

She runs away and Shizuru and Natsuki torment Mashiro. After that Mashiro is then tormented in a different way by Nina and Arika :heh: chapter ends with Elstein challenging Arika after Shiho did something to her looked like brainwashing.

Wow I just realize something. After reading ch3 we learn that sperms can destroy otome's nano machines, thus rander them useless and turn the otome back to ordinary girl...wow that's some raging sperms. I mean how the hell do they get out of the women XXX and travel through intercellular space to reach the blood stream and then search and destroy every nano machine in the body? Otome isn't an acroynm, its just a japanese word. The word-play is that '乙HiME' has the reading of 'otome' written over it.

From the dictionary, otome is:
乙女 　　「おとめ」
n. daughter; young lady; virgin; maiden; little girl

In the transformation sequence in the first chapter, you see that 乙HiME is:

Well it's back to the fluff. Nothing major happens here Mashiro starts taking classes with the other otome. He finds out they have a hardcore curriculum. Nina is great at everything while Arika sleeps and sucks at everything. At the end of long day Arika wants to sleep with Mashiro since she says it's scary sleeping on her own. They go to bed but Arika has horrible sleeping habits so Mashiro can't sleep. He notices Nina is missing so he goes to look for her.

He has an incredible imagination when he hears some strange sounds coming from a classroom :heh: . Turns out the impeccable Nina sucks at sewing which happens to be an assignment they have for the next day and she stayed up to do it. Some tender moments between Mashiro trying to help her and cheer her up. In the end Mashiro helps out and the next day she passes and gives Mashiro a nice smile the end.

Kind of funny chapter this one introduces Nao in a very wrong way. :heh: Haruka is chasing an individual from the Shuwaltz(sp?) organization. Who runs into the Otome school and Haruka can't gain entry to the place to catch him. Mashiro is taking a bath when the place goes into high alert over the intruder. Nina and Arika also have to go and investigate along with the rest of the Otome. Mashiro stays behind and continues with his bath. A mysterious person then enters the bath and catches him from behind. Mashiro thinks that this is the assassin and plays hero.

After breaking free he notices it's a very hot girl, what he didn't realize was that he lost his towel. :heh: The girl takes advantage and says she doesnt want to die a virgin so she asks if he can do the honors. Mashiro goes for it, but sure enough it was a trap. As this is happening Shizuru catches the real intruder while the mysterious girl prepares Mashiro for some S&M style interrogation. Right as it's about to begin they announce the capture of the intruder and they both realize they had the wrong person. Disappointed that she didn't catch the intruder but just a pervert the girl flicks Mashiro :heh: and leaves him hanging. Arika is coming back and Mashiro in a precarious position gets saved by Natsuki and Shizuru.

Next day on their way to class Nina runs into a girl with glasses who she asks what happened to her contacts. She replies that some stuff happened last night :innocent: Mashiro thinks that was the girl from last night except she has glasses and acts different. Nina then introduces the girl as Juliet Nao of the Pearl robe. Nao takes a closer look at Mashiro and makes the flicking gesture which paralyzed him :heh: and chapter ends with him saying that everyday his heart grows worse. :heh:

Well things are certainly getting interesting. Mashiro finds out that he is engaged to Nagi the duke of Arutai :heh: . Evil Tate I mean Sergei tells Mashiro that since he took on that persona he must go through with it. Apparently Arutai and Vint city don't get along quite so well and things are slightly volatile. Sergei warns Mashiro that if war breaks out it'll be his fault. Nina has some history with Nagi who is complete bastard towards Nina.

Sergei and Nagi don't get along either :heh: Arika is concerned for Mashiro since he is engaged to this bastard. As she is talking to Mashiro Nagi asks for a refill and in a moment of ditzy behaviour she bumps into some ambassador from Arutai and makes Nagi lose his cool. She gets saved by Nina who takes the brunt of her punishment in front of everyone. While everyone watches in disgust Mashiro can't take it anymore and socks Nagi and chapter ends with him demanding he apologize to Nina.

Damn it where's my mikoto :(

Not a lot went on in the chapter, Sergei, Maria, and Natsuki are worried about the possible impending war with Arutai. Nina was mad at Mashiro for doing what she did. He runs away and almost gets sold because of his pretty face:heh: . Nina just happened to be around since she was looking for the runnaway Mashiro. The 3 monster-like people are after Nagi, and Arika runs into them while looking for Mashiro in the trash:heh:

Nina says the only reason she saved him was because he looked like the person she was searching for. Nina is a little torn about her actions towards Mashiro in one hand she is happy that she saved him and on the other she can't be happy because she is indebted to Arutai and Nagi because they saved her from hunger and poverty. Nina wants to become a Meister Otome for the sake of the children who are unfortunate like her when she was growing up so she wants to make Arutai a better country. Then right before they look like they are about to kiss an explosion. She thinks it's Arutai's retaliation and tells him she must leave and chapter ends with Mashiro in deep doo doo.:heh:

I think it's a little too early for his identity to be exposed. I figure something will happen and she'll get knocked out and think it was all a dream and what not. I'm guessing that explosion has something to do with Arika and those monster-like things. Too bad Nina and Mashiro were having a moment there for a second time.:heh:

When I read the manga series (up to chapter 10 at the time of writing), I've been wondering since the fact that sperms would destroy nanomachines inside the Otomes.

Of course, I am not fluent in Japanese, so forgive me if this issue was already addressed in the manga thus far.

So far we know that:
1) Girls possess the power of the Otome (Not too sure about guys =p)
2) Girls that marry (guys) give birth and will lose their power.

Not too sure if there is a flaw in this logic, but how do babies have Otome powers that their mothers had lost?

The power of the Otome is not genetic (i.e. Nanomachines), so how does it get passed on?

No, manga is this the manga, anime is the anime. They are different. I mean, Mashiro is a guy in the manga, and in the anime, Mashiro is a girl. But the main idea is there.

:heh: This was a fun chapter. Nina uses her new robe and finishes off the Slave with a move similar to what she used in ep. 3 of the anime. They call it the Ultimate Heartbreak or something and it dies. The other dude brings out out some more and Shizuru comes to the rescue. Interesting bit was Arika recognizing the guy before leaving. The townfolk love and celebrate the appearance of Mashiro for saving them and what not.

Jealous Arika is cute then Bastard evil Sergay berates Mashiro but gets stopped by Nagi:eek: Who compliments Mashiro for going this far for his sake and he'll return for the engagement proceedings. Back in the school Arika gets 100 points for her good deeds and Nina gets slammed for her actions which landed Mashiro in a dangerous situation. In the end Nina knows that Mashiro is a dude and keeps/rescues him and his secret from Arika who wants to help bathe him since he has an injury:heh:Then cute shot of them smiling

I believe the first tank is due out in November so someone is bound to pick up the series then.

Pretty funny chapter since my 2nd favorite male character from Mai-Hime makes his debut:heh:. Anyway Mashiro gets what he thinks is a love letter from someone. There's a tour of the school going on with a mysterious hooded man asking if he might be able to meet the headmaster/principal. As the tour is going on Obese cat Mikoto is in one of the panels. I was hoping she was evil or something not fat cat but oh well. Anyway back to Mashiro and his letter it says to meet on the roof of the school. Erstin is waiting for him there who begins by telling him that She, about Mashiro and Mashiro says here it comes! :heh: What followed was that she will never forgive him. Apparently she overheard Natsuki talking about Mashiro and Nina making a contract. She misunderstands this as Mashiro is commiting something else:heh: She yells at Mashiro saying he has Arika why must he do those things with Nina as well.

The tour reaches the rooftop and Erstin gets an introduction. All the guys want to shake her hand and she freaks out and runs to shower away the guy cooties:heh: . The mysterious hooded man uses the opportunity to split from the group. Mashiro notices and follows him. The man is looking for the principal's office but accidentally goes into the shower where Erstin is. Mashiro hears her screams and comes to her rescue. Mashiro demands that the "Shubaltz guy" stand down that it's him they are after and leave Erstin alone. The hooded guy tries to explain his real intentions when Shiho and co show up and beat the stuffing out of him. The tour group end up there as well and Yukariko is shocked that Takeda is part of the Shuwaltz/Schwartz:heh: . He explains he's nothing but a Natsuki fanboy and he was going to use this opportunity to take photos of Natsuki for his fanclub thing. Shizuru overhears and takes out the scissors:eek:.

Nina is relieved and thanks Mashiro. She says that now she understands why Nina is with him. She is afraid of guys and because of her chest many terrible things have happened when she was little:heh:. She then says that's why she prefers girls and asks Mashiro if it's ok by him if she calls him Joousama/Queen. Chapter ends with a massive nosebleed:heh:

Plus, the complete 180 change in his personality. Is there any indication that Shizuru and Natsuki are in a relationship in the manga. Cause Hime manga did nothing with that, instead we got the triangle relationship. Kinda weird that they would just drop it, even if this is an alternate universe.

This one was kind of cute at least I think so. Anyway Natsuki is going through some school related paperwork and she also gets a letter from someone from Earith or something. Mashiro comes in to discuss something about Arika. He is told she is failing and will likely be kicked out the school. Mashiro is told to do something about it as her master. Hardworking Nina is concentrating on her studies for a test she has the next day and even plans on using her day off to study. Meanwhile Arika doesn't care and wants to go to sleep. Next day Mashiro follows Arika to see why she leaves early in the mornings. He finds out she is holding like 5 jobs. In one of her jobs she works as a waitress and screws up but is helped by Miyu:heh:.

Mashiro's cover is blown and Arika tells him about working to pay for her schooling. Mashiro asks why she does so much to become a Meister and she talk about some tragic event when she was a child and watching all her family burn and die. The little muppet keychein she has is a keepsake from her little brother. She also says that she'll certainly become a Meister and protect everyone. Mashiro then promises to help with her studies and Arika is happy. Erstin and Nina are listening in and Nina wonders what they are doing. Erstin says she's a little jealous:heh:. Sergay is up to no good. then Mashiro is helping Arika study. She is asked a question and can't answer when a voice belonging to Alyssa in the back answers it with some Rainman-like accuracy:heh:. After her long ass answer Miyu and her are leaving since they have prior engagements.

Mikoto-cat is up to no good and uncovers a tarp on a truck nearby. Ok this is what threw me off. I remember a while back someone joking about Nekomimi Mikoto and here's possible proof. Under the tarp a robot is activated and runs amok. On the rooftop you see a weird silouhette about her height with cat ears:eyespin:. Anyway Miyu goes on the offensive locks on and blows the robot to kingdom come. She is an android M.A.I.D. Then Natsuki shows up and Alyssa hugs her saying oneechan and chapter ends.

There's no confirmation on whether or not that bird sitting on Miyu's shoulders is actually Alyssa....It might actually be considering, that Mikoto is a cat but again...who knows.

I just found the scans for the manga seeded finally, so I read the first couple chapters and I wanted to see about clarification on Mashiro w/the doctor, Natsuki, and Shizuru in Ch2:

The scans are too blurry to read the yomikata next to the kanji some of the time, so I'm a bit confused as to exactly what is happening in that scene.

The doctor asks to see Mashiro's pendant and scans it and then mentions its responsible for the contract between Arika and Mashiro. Then Natsuki goes into a dialogue about boys and how if they are found out to be messing around with Otome, they get castrated in-so-many-words and Mashiro flips out -- what I can't figure out is does Natsuki and Co. know that Mashiro is really male? Either she is saying if Mashiro is ever found out that they would castrate him, or they are saying if they find any boys fraternizing with the Otome that they are castrated. The yomikata is too blurry for me to tell, since I'm weak in the kanji dept.

EDIT: I *think* it's if they ever find out, now that I think about it. Because she says 縛れたりする which would denote "if I was to ever find out about someone doing this" essentially. I could be wrong though.

Natsuki and co. knew that mashiro is a guy which is why he's warned of the consequences if he tries to take advantage of his otome. The conclusive proof lies in later chapters where mashiro's secret is almost discovered.

Funny one:heh:. Alyssa is asking how come Natsuki doesn't come home anymore. Natuski lies saying work and what not. Then Alyssa says that their mom does the same type of job and is never that busy. They reveal Natsuki's mom, Saeko Kruger is some big shot president of Eariizu(sp). Alyssa goes on saying the Iron Maiden series were created so Otome were not needed and she could go home with her. This pissed off Natsuki and then Alyssa says if she wants to put it to the test. Annoyed Natsuki agrees and they have some competition with the coral class and Mashiro as the judge.

First up is sculpting Irina vs Miyu who beats her before she even gets started. Next is baking Erstin vs Miyu, before they begin Arika says she can't lose because of her chest then Miyu powers up:heh:. Erstin bakes a simple cake and Miyu some monsterous wedding type one. 3rd round Mathematics Nina vs Miyu she wins again. Last round 100m dash Arika vs Miyu again no contest. After that they ask Mashiro for his decision but he runs away. Miyu pays him a visit to try and sway the vote:heh:. She says no matter if he's a guy or girl she has attachments to fit the bill. Before anything happens she gets caught by Arika, Nina, and Erstin:heh:. Erstin's line, " What do you think you doing to my Queen!":heh:.

Anywho Sergay shows up and rubs it in their face that they lost to a single maid. This causes them to demand a dance/performance with Miyu Natsuki accepts it and then she and Shizuru go down to some lab thing where something can't quite make out the kana next to it lies. Shizuru says Reira oneesama is coming, Natsuki says the "Reiryuu no tenranseki" is coming!!(Not sure what kind of stone thing this is, from what I can decipher Reiryuu is beautiful dragon. As for the tenranseki heavenly something stone anyone willing to assist?) Shizuru goes into some demonic laughing fit. Alyssa is sad that her sister isn't paying attention to her and all she wanted was for Natsuki to go home with her. Miyu says no worries and and what not who is listening in I wonder. And chapter ends with the 3 vs 1 face off.

Which sucked. Heh. Sorry, a lot of us are thinking this though, am I right..
There have been hints in Otome - actually arguably more than what we've had in the anime episodes - in chapter 4 I think when Maria, Natsuki and Shizuru are watching Arika/Erstin's Otome match, and they mention Arika's training - which prompts Shizuru to crouch behind/over a blushing Natsuki's shoulder reminding her that their time together has decreased because of it. I can't remember the exact details - anyone want to clearly translate it, you know these ShizNat moments are sacred.

I do remember Natsuki at one point gets stressed with what Arika is doing and Shizuru has happily taken the position of just resting her hands on Nat's shoulders - perhaps being resident 'shoulder massager'. Manga Natsuki is so funny.

I enjoyed Ch 15, I like what they've done with Alyssa and Miyu - and yeah, Miyu becoming more ''physically efficient'' next to Erstin was very funny - it'll be interesting to see how the next chapter pans out. It's clever how the younger trio wanting to regain some pride after being creamed this issue, is being ran alongside Alyssa wanting to win so Natsuki will realise the 'error of her ways' (and go home with her). Both sides want to win pretty badly.

One thing I didn't understand was when Shizuru and Natsuki go down to the lab basement - the chapter leaving Shizuru's behaviour even more random than usual - any clarification, because I got a bit lost then...

I would gladly scan the volume if it didn't require me unbinding all of the pages from the volume =( There are english translation txt files for the chapters somewhere ... I don't know where, but I've heard they exist.

EDIT: I retract my earlier statements -- after further review and finishing reading Vol1, I see what people are talking about. It appears that the artist is just messing with our heads. Apparently the Gem really does nothing. I mistook the wig in that frame for Mashiro bending over in front of the mirror.

Mashiro supposedly only wears a wig and the outfit, but the character design as I said, completely changes -- facial structure and shoulder width is totally different... so the artist is definitely "helping him along" in the art dept... just conveniently choosing when to go with the male or female figure as situation demands.

It's the return of the Super Bust attacks:heh: Anyway starts off with natsuki being a bitch to Alyssa. Alyssa asks if she is going to watch and Natsuki says she has more important matters and doesn't have time to play with children besides the Otome will win. Some pre-fight taunting by Miyu saying come all at one:heh:. Arika the dunce gets hit first because she was thiking about the 3 vs 1 deal. Natsuki is following the match in her office and is pissed Arika has already screwed up. Shizuru asks why doesn't she just watch the match but then she says she has work to do.

A woman by the name of Reira Mariposa of Galdea arrives at the campus and is greetedby Miss maria and yukariko who recognizes her as well. Reira is surprised she became a teacher and Yukariko says she became a teacher because alot of "things" happened with her previous master. Natsuki is caught listening in on the fight again by Reira. Reira and co go down to the lab place while the other otome cheer for their side. Inside there's Prisoner No. 17 who destroyed a city in Galrderobe, Marduke and Reira is there to question him and bring him back to Galdea. It switches to the emperor of Galdea(Jin) who says the escort of no. 17 seems to have begun and assures the person in the wheel chair that Reira can handle it herself.

Arika was the one listening in last chapter and she says can't really go at this seriously because if they win Alyssa will be on the losing side of things. She says that she will be separated from Natsuki even more. Nina says what the hell don't be naive and go at seriously but she doesn't want. Nina tells her to stand back and Erstin and her try to take on Miyu. Miyu showers them with missles but Erstin uses her Super Bust Defense:heh:. This is followed by the Heart Break Strike from Nina and Miyu is in a jam. Reira leaves with the prisoner and thanks for Natsuki and co for keeping him. Miyu goes into a new mode Mithril Dress which is her full power.

Erstin takes out Mashiro and that dude who follows Sergay with a deadly attack:heh: :eyespin:. Miyu taunts them again saying after all they are just coral robes and is about to finish them when black valley people arrive speaking english:heh: saying search for our leader and the others reply with yes Garu (Girl possibly?)sama. Chapter ends.

I'm drawing a blank but who the hell is Reira? Is she a new character or someone from Hime possibly guy turned girl sort of deal?

So, Taruby released chapter one.

I only read translated manga chapters since my japanese (at least the reading and writing) is not advanced enough for the raws.

I liked the first chapter. The drawings are nice. A lot like the ones of Mai-HiME. The manga explains the abilities and backgrounds a lot better. Like how the GEM activates the "Robe" and the "Element", etc. ... I like it when I get that kind of information on a manga/anime.

I like Haruka more in the anime, since she seems to be no Otome in the manga.

And again it seems like the manga and the anime go two completely diffrent ways and tell two diffrent stories. What makes me wonder if the manga spoils things for the anime or not (Like Arika having wings, or the expanation of their elemnts and how they change)

This is a cute chapter it's no. 17, the title happens to be Prisoner no. 17, and Midori claims to be 17 years old:heh:. Anyway it's mostly action as the shuwaltz guys show up looking for their leader. Miyu was doing well on her own until Slave Franklin shows up and beats her silly with the Revolutionary Thunderbolt:heh:. At first one of the hooded people thinks she's the same type as Jetton then after she is knocked silly he changes his mind. Anywho Miyu was going to use some suicidal attack but Arika saves her saying she doesn't want anyone else to be separated from loved ones etc...

Then with the help of Mashiro she goes into the meister robe mode uses miryoku move Infinite Super Blue Comets and takes care of everyone. Switch to the transport of prisoner no. 17 who is singing some weird song and after the combined efforts of the slaves and mikoto-cat she busts out. More engrish :heh: as the hooded person chucks something at the prisoner and says "present for you". Midori reveals herself and continues singing and chapter ends with her saying "I'm 17 years old" and I think that's Reira saying "Stop telling lies":heh:.

Evidents are she was found and was fixed, not created from scratch, and that she remember Alessa, even though the Alessa in Otome met her for the first time. I wouldn't expect it to hold for the anime though, if only because Alyssa has migrated species.

Actually, it's possible; Alyssa the bird could simply be a bird that reminded Miyu of MH's Alyssa, therefore she called it that way. Simple and elegant.

While I haven't read up to Ch17, I had an observation from Ep8 of the anime that made me wonder about the manga. Mikoto (cat) seems to be wearing an earring nearly identical to the one Aswald guy. So it doesn't surprise me that in the manga the cat might be connected to them. Although I wonder what they will really do in the anime, since it is obviously Mikoto (human) that is the shadowy overseer of the weird organ thingy. I hear there is a cat-girl Mikoto in the manga as well?

They seem to like putting out manga and anime that have the same characters but wildly varying storylines.

They did the same thing with the MyHiME anime/manga, and before that, the s-CRY-ed anime and manga were completely different as well.

I have no idea why, but this isn't the first time, and probably won't be the last.

Hasn't been confirmed either way, but there's been no hints in the anime that she's not a she either, so I'm not assuming she's a boy. She looks exactly the same as she did in MyHiME anyways...she wasn't exactly stacked in the original :heh: The main plot for her in the anime would seem to be that she's not the real princess, not that she's not a real "she". :)

The s-CRY-ed manga introduced Kazuma to a couple alters called the Lawless or something (I forget their actual name but I think it was Lawless), including a brother that didn't even exist in the anime...so again, seeing as this seems to be following in the s-CRY-ed and MyHiME "they're both different tellings of the same general story" idea, your best bet is to keep the two completely separate and don't use the manga for any anime assumptions until it's been shown in the anime.

One of the next ep promos had Arika pulling Mashiro's pants down to check. According to Arika, Mashiro "has nothing on top or bottom."

Dunno whether that counts as _canon_ per se, but it seems to confirm what Sunrise said.

As for the anime version of Mashiro, a past anime magazine scan had producers confirming that Mashiro was indeed a female. And to boot, they even apologized for the manga version.

The manga version, Mashiro (the female) was definitely female but of course in the first chapter:

She was murdered. So a boy who looked similar to her was forced into the role of Mashiro. So yes, Mashiro2 is a boy and Mashiro 1 (dead) was a girl (actually more of a woman the way she was illustrated in the first chapter)

This was one hardcore chapter

Midori takes on shizuru and reira. During the trashtalk phase of the fight Midori's motive for destroying a city was for cleanup purposes:heh:. Natsuki protects her sister saying she won't let them lay one finger on her. The black valley guy Rado takes Mashiro and Arika follows him. Switch back to Midori and co she activates her slave robe and miryoku attacks start flying. Midori activates her hand jewel and takes out reira the emperor of galdea dies as well. Rado stops and gives Mashiro back he then tells Arika he is her father and to come with him her mother is waiting. Erstin and Nina catch up and he leaves. In the end I think shizuru put a tracker on midori, everything is slowly back to normal, alyssa finally gets close to natsuki, and Arika is still thinking about what rado said.

Midori's transformation w/ her slave robe was awesome! Also her fight with Shizuru and Reira definitely shows her years of being locked up hasn't dull her skills at all. Do feel bad about Reira though, with so little screentime (I do question her element and attack... tennis? ^_^;;

... and Shizuru, always with a backup plan! I guess this means the Otomes might be doing a frontier attack against the Black Valley group in the future huh?

When Rado temporarily kidnapped Mashiro, I was so hoping Natsuki would go Otome but I guess they don't want to give that away too early. Boo... oh yea, Alyssa talking about the fight... ssooo cute!

Midori was one mean momma in this chapter. Nice. It's interesting her robe incorporates elements of Gakutenou in it - especially the 'tail'. That worked really well, it's one of few things I hope they transfer over to the anime (though I doubt it will happen). Shizuru's participation - well I had mixed feelings over it - (I must be use to seeing her crushing everyone she meets heh) - the tracker she threw at the end was like a Kiyohime-esque hydra head? My pages aren't that clear.

I loved the Natsuki/Alyssa moments, so cute, Natsuki will always be a big softie she can never escape it.

As to Arika - it's an ''interesting'' progression, that's all I'll say.

Arika agrees much to the dismay of Mashiro because she's meeting a stranger. So Mashiro tags along. It turns out Arika's fan boy is Kazuya! They go on a date to the amusement park (with Mashiro, Nina, and Erstin tagging along behind). And at the end, Kazuya drags Arika off into a hotel and strips her down to her underwear and attempts to do her. But Nina and the gang jumps in and Kazuya reveals himeself to be a part of Schwarz and brings out a Slave using that crystal thing. It's a tentacle monster that captures all of them and starts to erupt in gooey stuff. :heh: And then enters a hella pissed of Akane.

One peculiar thing is that even though Akane is a Pearl Number One, she materializes by having this chibi Fumi kiss her earring. :twitch:

Arika runs away from the school and goes to see if Rado is telling the truth. Mashiro is pissed and sad, Erstin tries to console him with her ultra bust impact he says she is heavy and runs away calling him an idiot. Nina then asks how does he feel about arika and he says he is worried of course but then she says that's not what she was asking and runs away. Mikoto finally makes her appearance:love: as Mashiro is sitting below a tree feeling depressed then he decides to go after her when she shows up and asks if he is going. Nekomimi mikoto:heh: tries to rape mashiro while nina and erstin admit their love for him.

They hear him scream and run to his side and kick mikoto away from him. Mikoto gets serious but Mashiro stops her before nina and erstin get their asses handed to them:heh:. She says she knows where arika is and she will take them there if they take her as well. Mikoto uses a slave gem and takes everyone on a cat balloon thing. They proceed to go together after finding arika to the black valley. Chapter ends when rado takes arika to her mother who is sitting on a bed playing with a doll as if it were baby arika and then she hugs mashiro calling him arika.

... Chapter ends when rado takes arika to her mother who is sitting on a bed playing with a doll as if it were baby arika and then she hugs mashiro calling him arika.

I thinck that's a hint that Arika is actualy the real princess and Mashiro is Rena's child.

In the Mai HiME manga the story follows the same course as the anime ..... even thow the caracters may act a litle difrent they eventualy end up fighting each other and eventualy fighting the ruller of the hime star

Hmm, I've been picking up the scanlations for the first few chapters now, and I am enjoying reading it, however much a giant time-waster it is. Good for passing the time to the next anime episode, I guess. And Erstin really likes Nina. And she isn't met with such a rock solid barrier of coldness/ignorance to the fact in the early hints. Nina actually shows compassion for her early on. Well, I guess she isn't hindered by Sergei in the manga.

I still don't have much of a clue what is going on in the latest chapter. Could someone give a quick summary of events, because all I can gather right now is that Mikoto popped up, and that they flew somewhere to supposedly Arika's mother.

Hmm this is getting a bit predictable. Anyway title is Reunion. Rado gives some sob story about how he met Rena. Arika finds the brother doll to her sister doll and knows that she is her mother. However Rena says that her daughter has the sapphire jewel so Mashiro is her daughter and who is she. Rado then tells her to get some rest and they leave. Mashiro wants to fix the brother doll so he asks if they could lend him some stuff so he can fix it. Midori shows up and asks what Rado intends to do with them he says he will have Arika join them in their battle. She refuses saying she just came to get her mom to a doctor and then they argue about she can't be cure then Mashiro says in Galderobe they probably could. Midori then gets in his face about it.

After that Midori tells them to take a trip around the black valley and they see how horrible things are. There's a brief panel with an Akira looking shadow. Switch to Mashiro who fixes the doll and remembers something :dun dun duunn:. Esrtin starts thinking back about her childhood and asks Nina and Mashiro. Mashiro says he doesn't remember his only faint memories of his mother. Esrtin cheers him up using her talents:heh:. Some touching scenes with Arika and Rena, then Arika swears she will definitely return with her mother. There's an explosion, Arika and Rena are caught in the middle chapter ends.

But I'm somewhat disappointed that Shizuru couldn't outsmart Midori in the same way that Akira does.

You can see that she's losing the face to face battle and get thrown off, but then she decided to "trick" Midori and it worked.
It seems that Akira's specialty is attacking the opponent's control gems, as she disabled both Midori and Arika that way.

What's freaky though is Rena suddenly being able to block Akira's attack, that part doesn't make sense one bit.

Thanks for the explaination on the 'trick'. Akira seems to be the Meister bond with Takumi. Though she didn't get her fight but it certainly make more sense to me how that she "can" fight with Midori. I am still looking for the raw to take a closer look on the battle.
Akira also looks young... VERY YOUNG to be a meister. She could be fairly powerful in the future chapter.

As for Rena... She blocked it?! From the picture I thought she was about to block the attack...! No way, it is because she is mentally unstable and that's what makes people powerful without realizing it? That's really freaky...

I've read chapter 22 of Mai-Otome, with the limited Japanese skills that I have. =p

All the Akira x Midori and the rest of the battles aside, I found it cool that Manshiro stands out again to voice what he believes in. A follow-up surprise was a remark from Rena, and I wasn't too sure what she said, but according to the picture where...Arika was protecting what I think to be the future Manshiro from bullies. Siblings!?!?! (I personally thought it struck me as surprising, despite accurate speculations from other posters in this forum.)

Hoo, Sergey's name is actually quite regal here, much better than the anime's which induces phallic imagery. Anime is sorely lacking Sinister Sergey...

... but that seems to be the only thing going for this manga. Accursed trap protagonists, you can't fap to them, nor can you root for them.

I don't feel too optimistic about the rest either. I can just imagine the end, Sergey taunting Manshiro about running away, Manshiro at first quailing under Sergey nefarious gaze, then he gets +1 courage when Arika charges Sergey but fails, whips out his wang and slaps Sergey unconscious. Hoorah.

Sergay and Mikoto is planning something with the mark of the HiME! Not to mention at the end, they seem to have captured Mashiro (?) and is doing something to her. Reminds me of how they captured Mashiro in the MH anime.

Crazy chapter this one. Lots of fighting and Evil Sergay is hardcore he even manage to outdo that midget Nagi:heh:. He planned everything so Nagi is accused of paying off people to attack the ceremony in front of everyone. His protect the queen act was pretty suave as well. Natsuki''s mom seems to know something's afoot so she sends Miyu after Nagi. Takumi sends Akira after him as well and they end up fighting as Nina is about to get her meister robe poor Nina is being tossed around like trash. Nekomimi Mikoto is back:love: along with Evil Sergay as he is about to kill Nagi and Mashiro the other mashiro appears:heh: :eyespin: ending the chapter.

Well, I finally sat down and read the first seven fansubbed chapters of Mai Otome official manga.
My first thought after I was done was "Wow, ecchi", there doesn't seen to be a whole lot of difference between this and the Super H Otome manga.

Some other thoughts:

- Arika is a far more attractive character in the manga than in the anime. In the anime (To me anyway) she looks slightly stunned and comes across as borderline retarded, rather than the fun little country bumpkin she's portrayed as in the manga. She also seems to be drawn in a slightly more attractive way. If in the anime they had drawn and portrayed her character like they do in the manga, I probably be a big fan of hers.

-Nina, Shizuru and Natsuki's portrayals seem to me to be fairly close to the anime portrayals, although Natsuki seems to be more competent in the manga.
Unfortunately Natsuki, Shizuru and Yohko all seem a little cruder and harsher, more aggressive with less refinement and a lack of altruism.

-I like Fumi having a bigger role to play.

-Sinister looking Sergei seems far cooler than his anime counterpart.

-The way some talked in this thread I thought Mashiro was a boy in the manga, but Mashiro is still a girl, Manshiro is just her stand in.
I thought I would dislike Manshiro (futanari is always a very nasty surprise to me), But he seems like a sweet guy in an unfortunate situation.
In fact the rough treatment and threats he receives from Natsuki, Sergei and Yohko bothers me a little bit.

-Nao's a real sexpot and more attractively drawn than in the anime

-Chie seems quite different; harsh and untrustworthy, as well she is far less romantic but more sexually aggressive in the manga. I'm a bit over a sucker for the romantic, so I wasn't overly pleased with this change in character. She is drawn sexier though, less butch I guess.

-The ShizNat's relationship still seems to be fairly ambiguous, though with all the ecchi they could be relegated to f***buddies. I would like Sunrise to hit us over the head with their romance just once, instead of all those cloying hints.

Of course since the English translations currently end at Chapter 7, I could be way off base on most of my observations.

Is another group subbing this that is farther ahead?

You are right in chapter 29, Nagi gave Nina her GEM, but they don't show if they completed the contract, because Akira attacked them.

So the big question now is Nina had a contract with Nagi or not? I don't think they would kill Nina right now. She is one of the main manga characters. I think that Nagi will only be hurt.

And they were able to complete the contract because Arika protected them.

Had Nagi let Manshiro die, there would be noone to protect him and Nina to allow them to complete the contract.
Since Arika would've been dead as well.

Nina was about to make a contract with Nagi, but Akira interrupted them before they can complete their contract.
That's why Nina didn't die with Nagi, since they haven't completed their contract yet.

Meanwhile Natsuki is try to evacuate people, her mom gives her a suggestion to use students with robes. Pretty funny how natsuki's robe is always getting turned off just as she is about to use it:heh:. Back to Mai who is going to char the 3 of them when Midori shows up to help, but girl mashiro gets pissed and tells Mai to summon Kagutsuchi. Arika starts having flashbacks of a burning town and Kagutsuchi. And chapter ends right as Kagutsuchi attacks.

I actually found myself confusing girl Mashiro and guy Mashiro in this chapter. They're really alike. The only difference in that their eyes are different and girl Mashiro's dialect (is it considered a dialect?) is the same dialect as MO anime Mashiro's. And we still don't know guy Mashiro's real name. :uhoh:

I think what is nice about the manga is the larger array of characters it manages to include. In the anime, Arika/Mashiro/Nina really have dominated the screen-time (actually probably more Arika/Mashiro). Many outside them just have more 'meatier' roles in the manga (although there are a few exceptions)

And yeah, people will jump to the defence and say the anime is going for some more gradual philosophical approach and the manga is more action orientated archetypes (e.g. Sergei being 'ridiculously bad') - but I'm sure the manga just has more dynamic moments in general. You don't need to labour it on to have some depth imo - the anime has been quite jarring to watch and I'm definitely convinced it would be more enjoyable watching it in bulk episodes.

Given that I hated the HiME-manga, I've been pleasantly surprised by the Otome stuff. It has its problems, but it's good.

As to the latest chapter - they may need to let Natsuki materialise now, it's becoming a bit of a one line joke. [I'm hoping the design will be impressive like some of the other robes in the manga] And Midori should go back to her other costume she ahd on previously. Evil is where it's at (although I did think she looked sorta....cute =P )

Arika and Guy mashiro have the same flashback of the burning town. Arika is too scared to do anything. They manage to escape from Kagutsuchi through a hole. Mai continues her rampage along with Mikoto. After finding shelter and regrouping Guy Mashiro vows he'll stop them and he finally remembers that Arika is his sister who has always protected him. Chapter ends with the school being attacked.

It is sinful because there's no overpowered, God-moding super heroes to take away the excitement. *coughShizurucoughMiyu* The fact that the baddies are smarter, more heavily armed, and got the whole 'I'm the real queen' angle going on makes it rather difficult for Manshiro to make things right.

I think I'll join you in that swoon. but I have to admit it; I'm enjoying the manga way more than the anime because there actually IS a sense of danger, Antsy's not as annoying (I mean, come on, the "Otome Heart, GETTO!" was priceless. :) ), and I know for a fact I like Manshiro more than Mashiro. Even all the stupid fanservice is negligable to how much the story is actually working out.

Guy mashiro now adds Erstin to his ever growing otome harem. Cool chapter the royal hound show up to cause havoc. Natsuki and co are screwed since they can't use their robes. Girl mashiro is revelling in her success thus far and she says it's time to remove the final seal. Miyu shows up to kick ass, and Chie figures that Fumi is gone from the core. So in order to return their powers a new person must become the new shinsou. So it all comes down to natsuki, shizuru, akira, maria, and yukariko to decide who will take up that position. Chapter ends with guy mashiro and co running into the royal hound only to get saved by the lovely haruka:).

In chapter one...we see that the real Mashiro was killed and we were introduced to this guy who were gonna substitute for Mashiro. What I'm a little confused about was what he said...is he second in line for the throne after Mashiro? or is he just some random guy?

At first I thought he was just some random guy, but then I wondered what he said by "i found out I am the second mashiro-hime" ... Also i was buggled by how he can just go up the Sergay and ask for his help...

So...without spoiling beyond chapter 15...I just need some clarification on what excatly was told in Chapter 1...

Is this guy really second inline for the throne or is he completely random given in the context of Chapter 1?

For your first question, I think in the My HiME manga, Natsuki's mom created Alyssa. Therefore Alyssa and Natsuki are like siblings. Someone correct me? I already don't remember the My HiME manga. :heh:

IIRC, HiME Alyssa is a Natsuki clone, with some genetic engineering added to give her extra abilities.

well i started reading this manga, to kill time and really enjoy reading it, (after all the big confusion with suzuka and other manga i always need to find something to relax,) (it's actually funny)
