Seventh doll chapter 4 is up!
Seventh doll chapter 4
In a N-field…
The doll known as Kirakishou refused to accept her defeat. She swore to defeat Barasuishou the next time that they met.
“Her Roza Mystica will be mine!” She used one of her vines and reshaped it to a spear. She smiled evilly as she thinks about what she would do to the other doll.
In Yuji’s house in the morning…
Barasuishou was sleeping in her box and dreams about her Father and her newfound medium. Right now, she knew that the white doll wanted revenge and she would have to be careful now on. She woke up to discover that her medium is not there.
She looked around all the upper floor and did not find any trace leading her to Yuji. When Barasuishou came to the living room, she found a note.
Dear Barasuishou
I am going away because I have to do a few errands. I will see you real soon. Oh yeah, please don’t cause trouble at home.
See you later.
^_^
Yuji
Barasuishou put down the note and went outside through the open window. She tried to search for her medium by walking. Because of her hooded cloak, she is able to become invisible to other people’s eyes.
After 27 minutes of searching…
“It’s about time.” Barasuishou had finally caught up to her medium. Yuji was busy delivering letters for a part-time job. “Hello Yuji.” The voice stunned Yuji, he looked around cautiously. “Who’s there?”
“It’s me.” Barasuishou appeared in front of Yuji (he is delivering his last letter). “Yup, I’m finished.” The purple doll pointed to a dormant water puddle. “I need to show you something.”
The puddle glowed in an eerie colour, Barasuishou jumped into the puddle and disappeared. Yuji just stood there dumbfounded. Barasuishou’s voice came through the puddle, “Hurry.”
The ring glowed very brightly and pulled the stunned teen into the puddle. They landed a place filled with beautiful amethyst crystals. The boy gave a glance at everything, he felt he needed to ask. “What is this place? Is this your home?”
The purple-clad doll replied, “Not necessarily, what you see now is my dream world.” In the meantime, Krystal acted as a guide for Yuji (who kept getting lost). A dark voice erupted inside the dream world.
“Hahaha, I found you!” Kirakishou appeared in front of the pair. Barasuishou used a crystal spire to push Yuji back and crystallised him in a purple cocoon despite Yuji’s protests. Barasuishou and Kirakishou began a furious duel. Kirakishou summoned her vine spear and lunged at Barasuishou who summoned a long piece of crystal (she doesn’t have a sword yet) and both weapons clashed.
But Barasuishou had the advantage because they were in her dream world along with her medium but she was careful not to drain her medium’s strength in the fighting. She opened her left palm. “Krystal!” The purple artificial spirit froze Kira in place while Bara fired a barrage of crystals at her.
The crystal shards hit dead-on and Kirakishou landed in a heap. She stared at Barasuishou with immense hatred. The crystal spires stabbed at Kira in multiple spots. The white doll shouted in pain while the emotionless Bara continued to walk closer.
“Give me your Roza Mystica and your pain will stop.” Kirakishou refused and Barasuishou prepared to land the final blow…
To be continued…

Blame 4chan:
Gaston
A meme based off of the antagonist from Disney's animated film, The Beauty and the Beast. It began with images posted of a scene from the film wherein Belle is speaking to Gaston, and Gaston is looking sideways at a book that Belle was carrying. The humor of this image was enough to give Gaston footing as a meme, as shops of his face swapped with Belle's and others soon arose. Also, posts arose stating things like "NO ONE * LIKE GASTON," based off of lines from a song that shares Gaston's name, that shows high praise for him. Because Gaston achieved memehood shortly before the inception of the DESU meme, he was often shown in images to be fighting, killing, or otherwise menacing characters from Rozen Maiden, posted by users annoyed by the frequency of threads spamming the DESU meme.

Hey all! this is my first post on this anime forum.....actually, it's my first post on ANY anime forum.
Rozen Maiden is the first anime of this genre that I've actually enjoyed, not that I've watched many and have finished both the first and second seasons. I know that this has probably been asked before but is there going to be a 3rd season?
Oh, and why do people not like Shinku? She's my favourite by FAR! I love the way she carries herself and love her soft side which doesn't come out all that often. 2nd favourite would be Suseiseki (gotta love that hair).

It seems that in previous Anime Saimoe tournament, Shinku won against Gin (and finished 3rd behind Sousei Seki and Nanoha). They don't seem to dislike her that much.

Shinku ? Arrogant ? I don't remember hearing her sayinge "I'm the best, I will junk your ass bwa ha ha ha... ha". She is pride and has her "lady like cute and funny" attitude, nothing more.
Oh well, each to his own I guess. I like Shinku heaps though :D

... kashira.
I think they intentionally made Shinku a bit more reserved and adult than the rest of the dolls for a reason. There has to be some kind of "voice of wisdom" so everyone doesn't fly off the handle everytime a strawberry goes missing ~desu.
As for Season 3... in time, I think. There have been a couple rumors about there being a "special" or OVA being shown at TBS's Anime Festa on this upcoming Aug. 19th, but personally I believe it's just a special showing of Träumend. Looking back, S1 aired from October to December '04, with news of a sequel coming in March '05. S2 aired from October '05 to January '06.
If news of a S3/OVA doesn't come during the TBS Anime Festa, I suspect we will have to wait for one or maybe even two more volumes of the manga to be released, which means at least another year... If Peach-Pit works with the show's creative writers and whatnot, exchanging of ideas... Maybe we could see something next spring. Like S2, where some manga plotpoints were introduced but the season really revolved around Barasuishou, who was created by the animation team and not Peach-Pit...
Arg, it's too much to wait! I want one 45 minute OVA every three months, starting Oct. '06!
Well this just in, even the Japanese ppl in 2channel hates Stinku.

LOL.. but but.. that was Suiseiseki's handiwork. No doubt, Suiseiseki hates Shinku because she's jealous.
I dont hate Shinku, and I agree that she isnt arrogant, just proud of her pedigree as the most dignified of Rozen Maidens. :heh: Couldn't find a better word. And yes, personally, Kanaria is much more irritating than her. No! Hina is not annoying! :upset: Welcome hizashi, Suiseiseki is my personal favourite. :D

And whose gonna lead a KunKun cosplay search with Souseiseki gone?
I don't dislike Shinku, and I did find some endearing moments involving her. Not my favourite by far though.
1) Suiseiseki
2) Sugintou
3) Tie between Souseiseki and Shinku
4) Kira
5) Hina( season 2 saved her, otherwise...)
Kanaria can go jump into a trash compactor for all I care.
First welcome to this forum and second i dont know why Shinku got much detractors, that is a pitty :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated:
my order of my favs RM dolls are:
1.SUIGINTOU
2.SHINKU
3.KIRAKISHOU
4.SUISEISEKI
5.HINAICHIGO
6.KANARIA
7.SOUSEISEKI
8.BARASUISHOU

I agree, the Shinku hate has to stop.
Sometimes the board confuses me with the amount of love they give the evil dolls who wish to kill the other dolls and yet hate the main protagonist doll.
the.Merines
2006-08-07, 15:01
Because dolls aren't necessarily evil. Except Kira, but we barely know her. I've said it before, but part of the show's appeal is the universal acceptance of all the dolls. It sounds wishy-washy to say, "Oh, I love all the Rozen Maiden." People mainly bash on Shinku or Kanaria. Shinku is the central doll of the series; no one can change that.
Kanaria-chan... With every time I watch through season 2, I appreciate her a little more, though I felt cheated that she got more screen time than Souseiseki.
Now that mention to Kirakishou, you dont think that the "real" number of Rozen Maidens only be SIX and Kira can be an "intruder" like Bara?
All us know that Bara was an impostore but, if Kira is the real doll number seven ¿how Father can be create her if she dont got phisycal body, dont got Rosa Mistyca and ONLY exist in the N-Field,? and more importan, why Father when "rebirth" to Shinku and the others never make mention of Kirakishou to Shinku?

Rozen works in mysterious ways. Perhaps he planned to create Kirakishou, but something happened and he halted before creating her physical body. However, maybe a part of him wished for her to be completed and created her in an "n-Field form" only.
Or maybe he realized that Enju was copying his design and stopped before making her. It's just a possibility... Tokyopop really needs to get the manga out more quickly! I demand all volumes up to and including 7 be released by the end of the year!

I'm guessing it's 1 manga for every 3 months so you got a long time to wait.
Perhaps, when Kirakishou was completed, Barasuishou may have destroyed Kira's body and therefore Kira has no body.
But I still agree with your explanations/ideas.
Blablabla

But Barasuishou doesn't exist in the manga... she she could not have destroyed Kira's body.
And in the anime... well we don't know how they may introduce Kira... if an other season is planed, of course.

Kirakishou is going to possess someone's body (I think Hina in the manga), so she can stalk Gin-sama.
My number one will always be Gin-sama. Here is the list of my favorite dolls from favorite to least favorite:
1. Gin-sama
2. Souseiseki (for being the know-it-all she is)
3. Suiseiseki
4. Shinku
5. Hinaichigo
6. Kanaria
Still can't rate Kirakishou, seeing that we don't know much about Her Psychoness.

Ok...this may be blasphemy....but does anyone know what other anime I can watch while waiting for Season 3 to come out (if it ever does? :( )
Something similar to Rozen Maiden and animated by Peach Pit wouldbe good :D
^ Lol if that was blasphemy I wouldnt be watching any more series after Rozen Maiden. Rozen Maiden is very VERY good, and I love hanging out in this thread, but it was by no means the best for me :D
I would reccomend REC (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=28602), tho its not by Peach-pit, but it was the series I watched directly after RM:T because it was showing on the same channel as RM:T (TBS) and RM:t last episode showed a promo for it. Anyhow, REC is a short anime (just nice for the wait); of 9 episodes (+1 for the DVD special episode) each about 11 minutes long; dont let that put you down tho, its incredibly well paced and a very enjoyable romantic comedy/drama. Found here (http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/747.html).
Some others would recommend DearS, but I didnt watch it, so I cant describe it. I know blitz enjoyed it, maybe he'll tell you more.
1) Gin
2) Suiseiseki
3) Kanaria
4) Hina-Ichigo
5) Souseiseki
6) Bara/Kira
7) Stinku
But Barasuishou doesn't exist in the manga... she she could not have destroyed Kira's body.
And in the anime... well we don't know how they may introduce Kira... if an other season is planed, of course.
Curiosly...Kirakishou was introduce in the anime BEFORE the manga, the episode 12 of Träumend was in January 5 and the manga # 6 was released in January 29.
And talking about N-Field, how Rozen or Enju repair to Suigintou if her "deadbody" keep in the dream of Jun?

Same. I'd give up watching anime altogether if that was the case, just because Rozen Maiden is that cool.
Curiosly...Kirakishou was introduce in the anime BEFORE the manga, the episode 12 of Träumend was in January 5 and the manga # 6 was released in January 29.
That is so strange. Was Kira made for the anime? Because as it has been said before, it looks like the producers heard they were going to make another season and decided to switch the final episode plot. So for the third season we'd have an explanation as to why Barasuishou turned out to not be the true 7th RM and not have a real RM maiden, but that isn't the case with Kirakishou introduced at the end of the series. Though reading the manga it would come as to much of a confusion.
ON THE OTHER HAND, Kirakishou could have been intended only for the manga, AND, Barasuishou being a fake maiden all along in the anime was the real plot, and the last episodes were just poorly constructed into a senseless battle royal style finish.
THOUGH, the hole in my theory is that the producers said they wanted no more seasons. They didn't say OAV. But what could really happen then?
AND, If my theory is correct then they didn't think it out very well. Because having Barasuishou not being a true RM then Enju would have to have copied Kirakishou, knowing she was 'alive'. So, why did Barasuishou think she would become Alice after obtaining Shinku's Rosa Mystica? Though I guess that might be going out of context. My theory is fueled by that little hole which Garten pointed out first. So, now, I must say I am royally confused.
[/trying to act smart]
EDIT: Oh yeah, In chapter five I'm going to kill off a Rozen Maiden. I'd like to know who you'd want to kill said maiden. I won't say who I'm going to kill off but I doubt she'll be missed.

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooo Bruce!
And talking about N-Field, how Rozen or Enju repair to Suigintou if her "deadbody" keep in the dream of Jun?
What if if a doll was destroyed in a dream world she wasn't destroyed physically? Just her spirit was "destroyed"? So in a way, Rozen could still take her physical body and reanimate her. I mean, he did animate them in the first place!

I don't really have the most favorite doll in RM as well as RMT. Tho' they're charming but I don't really think that any of them to be my top of the tops. Shinku is like someone who has no willing to fight but then was forced to fight and finally lost the final match in RMT. How pity can it be? Suiseiseki can be annoying, charming, evil as well as a loving doll. But she can't cook. Hina Ichigo is annoying too but kiddish. Albeit her appearances, she's a very brave doll. Souseiseki is kind and warm. But I think that she's abit selfish. Suigintou is a dark and gothic doll. To be honest, I always assumed that she is the kind that deserves to be punished. But fans like in 4chan or any other futaba channel make me changed my mind with those pictures. Kanaria is a fine creation but sadly, I don't like her at all. From the appearances through the inner self. Nevertheless, she's a fine pair for Hina Ichigo. Barasuishou, hmmm,although I like purple but she's not that great. I think she's the same as Suigintou for me. About Kirakishou, she looks wonderful but she's too evil.

1. Suigintou (her character is the most interesting for me)
2. Suiseiseki (tsundere desu!)
3. Manga Shinku (much less formal)
4. Hina-ichigo (she's too cute!)
5. Souseiseki (we barely knew ye...)
6. Anime Shinku
7. Kanaria (I don't hate her, I just like the others more)

Barasuishou isn't a true Rozen Maiden, so I won't rank her. I don't know enough about Kirakishou to rank her.
Um... RM-FAN brought up a good point, about Gin being beaten in Jun's dream world. Since her Rosa Mystica was never released from her body, Laplace's Demon probably retrieved it and brought it back to Rozen.
Just wondering, who is Laplace's Demon? I don't quite understand after watching the anime.

Hey all! this is my first post on this anime forum.....actually, it's my first post on ANY anime forum.
Welcome to the forum!
She is actually my favorite, but Hina is the most fun :)

@Shadow Miko: Annoying? Yes. Endearing and memorable... Guess that's my opinion. She has a very strong personality, but she's really just covering for her inner timidity. I guess that's something that some people like.
@hizashi: Laplace's Demon is a mathematical reference, just like n-Field. In layman's terms... Errr...
Laplace was a French mathematician and astronomer in the early 19th century. He believed in causal determinism, meaning that every single event is caused by an unbreakable chain of previous events (completely cancelling out the idea of free will). Laplace theorized that an enormous intellect could be created which could at the time same know all possible forces and items composing a situation, and then analyze all this data in an instant. The intellect could use this massive information to produce a formula that could embrace everything. For this intellect (referred to as Laplace's Demon since no human could possibly know or process all this info), nothing would be uncertain and the future would be like the past is to the present in its eyes.
Ahem! That's a handful! Basically, Laplace's Demon (in a mathematical sense) is an imaginary intellect that can utilize the data of everything in the universe to know future events. Not to predect them, but to know them like a normal person knows what happened to them five minutes ago.
Applying this to Rozen Maiden, it's a little sketchy what his real place is. In my theory (which I use in my fanfiction quite heavily), Mr. Bunny-man Laplace's Demon is a balancing force in the RM world. There are these dolls (and sometimes humans) who go traversing through dreams and n-Fields with their ultimate goal being the Alice Game. His job as Rozen's proxy (since he knows all situations and all possible outcomes) is to guide the dolls towards their Father's dream of Alice.
So it's a little complicated... Most people just look at him as an annoying, two-faced, double-talking rabbit dude. I think he has a much higher and deeper purpose. On a side note, my fanfiction is based on the idea that Laplace's Demon knows the outcomes of all situations, but does not know which of the situations will be presented until it happens. Like, he can see the river and knows the course of all the river's forks, but he isn't sure which fork will be taken. Something between determinism and free-will philosophy...
I'm spent... Hope that helps a little. BTW, I'm not really this smart, but I researched it pretty extensively as research for my writing.

Hrm...that clears things up a little. Interesting idea and possible interpretation. I actually agree with you now that I myself have read up a little about Pierre-Simon Laplace. While I don't agree with causal determination as I don't see free will and determinism as mutually exclusive. I'll re-watch the anime and pay more attention to Laplace's Demon.
the.Merines
2006-08-08, 09:19
Good excuse to watch it again, ne? Of course I agree with you that free will and determinism are just philosophies, nothing more and nothing less... For the purpose of the story though, it makes sense if he's just some kind of string-puller for Rozen. Whether that means Rozen is privy to the all-knowing power of Laplace's Demon, I'm not sure. It doesn't seem like it, especially since he tells Shinku that there are other ways to become Alice... He suddenly becomes a pacifist after a couple hundred years of pushing the AG.
P.S.- I come from a long background of Evangelion (8 years off and on), so dissecting every little thing and making it seem much more complicated than it really is... It's just natural for me.
Hai! Fantastic reason to watch again. To be honest, I think the thing which REALLY attracts me to this series is it's amazing music score. I love the compositions and feel that they convey the feeling of the entire anime.
I'm a sucker for pieces which change key or do not simply play chords and notes in the same scale for the entire score so I love Toumei Shelter! I just bought the OST from CD Universe :D
Oh and does anyone know what song is played in Episode 10 of the first season where Jun is repairing Shinku's dress? It's after the other dolls are sunning themselves. Is it Naisei?
EDIT : Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's Naisei! I love the dreamy feel. The score really transports me into the RM world.....gosh...I'm such a sentimentalist!!! Took me this long and an anime of all things to make me realise that.
the.Merines
2006-08-08, 10:05
You're right, it is Naisei (which means Introspection). Oddly enough, I just ordered both OSTs yesterday. The soundtrack really is very good and matches the scenes very well, I agree. Also the sound effects are better than any anime I can remember. I mean, I can hear the sound of their dresses moving anytime the dolls move around; its really strange.

Wow, thank you for that insight, up till now I wouldnt have given second thought to Bastard Bunny. Interesting quote I found:
We ought to regard the present state of the universe as the effect of its antecedent state and as the cause of the state that is to follow. An intelligence knowing all the forces acting in nature at a given instant, as well as the momentary positions of all things in the universe, would be able to comprehend in one single formula the motions of the largest bodies as well as the lightest atoms in the world, provided that its intellect were sufficiently powerful to subject all data to analysis; to it nothing would be uncertain, the future as well as the past would be present to its eyes. The perfection that the human mind has been able to give to astronomy affords but a feeble outline of such an intelligence. (Laplace 1820)
Is Laplace's Demon in RM (a.k.a BB) a sort of all knowing God? Then what is Rozen? I guess the main problem in determining Laplace's Demon's role is that Laplace never mentioned a use for such an intellect. Or did he? In anycase, this is sobering because it may mean that the dolls do not actually have free-will; although maybe thats taking the interpretation too far. Then again, maybe thats why Rozen revealed to Shinku the fact that there were other ways. i.e., Her pacifism was planned all along, and this whole thing was just a crazy metaphysical experiment. :heh:
In any case, what is certain is that BastardBunny does speak like a Philosopher; in circles.
the.Merines
2006-08-08, 11:43
It's really mostly unknown what his role is. I know he appears in the manga as early as the last page of Vol.1 (much earlier than the anime) but I don't know his role yet since I can't read Japanese.
I don't think the Demon is a god in the RM world. All-knowing, yes. Omnipresent? In the n-Fields, possibly. All-powerful? No. He had to take a human form (as Shirosaki) to influence Jun. He also influenced (i.e., manipulated) Enju and therefore Barasuishou.
As for the doll's having no free will, that's almost halfway correct through most of the series. They are all inevitably headed towards the Alice Game. Every doll knew and expected it, and they always had. In that way their fate was sealed. In the meantime, though, they had the free will to do as they pleased. When an unstable element (Jun) is introduced, seeds of dissention are planted.
After Shinku defeats Suigintou, the pain she feels causes her to become a pacifist. Suiseiseki admits to Souseiseki that she'd rather be defeated without a fight than be forced to fight her Sister dolls that she loves.
It's all kinda complicated if you think about in in this way... Anyways... :eyespin:

Fourth Thorn: Maestro
A week passed in Ohba Tsugumi’s life. Suigintou had made a few short appearances but had remained distant for the most part. He realized that she was probably plotting a way to draw her enemy, Shinku, into a battle. However, he was also hard at work trying to determine the whereabouts of any other Mediums. If the two other dolls were already awake, then the Alice Game that Suigintou had been waiting so long for would finally begin. In the mean time, he had been fired from his job because of truancy; but he didn’t care at all. For someone studying the metaphysical world of living dolls, dreams, n-Fields, and a doll maker who lived through the ages… such things just weren’t important.
Just as he had with Lego blocks in his childhood and video games in his teens, Tsugumi was beginning to become obsessed. This time, however, he had no input from friends or parents to hold him back. He’d already lost his source of income. Even as he realized that he was missing meals and sleep, he continued his search for traces of Mediums and research of the man named Rozen.
Finally, his human body pushed near its breaking point after four days and nights without slumber, he gave in to the weariness. Suigintou found him asleep at his desk, surrounded by newspapers, printouts, phone books and all other manner of books. She sighed and tried to relax her body. After all, this small apartment was the only place she could call truly safe. The Contract she’d made with this sleeping human had become both a gift and a curse. Surely, having a Medium would greatly improve her chances of beating Shinku and becoming Alice. However, whenever she considered rushing towards putting some scheme into effect, she found herself thinking of this human.
‘To be putting his wishes ahead of my own…’ she thought as she looked down at the ring on her small finger. ‘It’s almost too unsightly. He’s just insurance against Shinku’s Medium. But then…’ She slowly floated over to him from the windowsill. ‘He looks so unassuming when he’s asleep, just like any human. He’s been helpful in many situations already. Intimidating Shinku’s dim-witted Medium, finding Souseiseki and her master… He’s also been working so hard on finding the other two Rozen Maiden, and he’s so interesting in meeting Father…’
Suigintou reached out and touched his cheek. “You’re a good boy, Tsugumi,” she whispered. The text of the book he had been reading as he fell asleep jumped out at the doll. She gently moved his hand from the page, revealing a basic blueprint of a doll. He had apparently taken some notes on the page. The first Sister’s eyes widened as she read his notes. Circled in the center of the page was the blueprint-doll’s torso. A number of equations were comparing the approximate size of the blueprint-doll to Suigintou’s approximate size. Off to the side was written:
“Left unfinished? Why, Rozen?”
It was a question she had asked a thousand times. Of course there was never an answer. Rozen… Father would only see Alice. ‘But why is he researching this as well? It’s embarrassing that he discovered… Although I was initially nervous that he would lose faith in me because of such a thing, it seems quite the opposite. What a strange human he is. He’s such a fool.’ As she watched him sleep, her eyes slowly softened.
As Suigintou was concentrating on her Medium, the mirror behind the pair began to ripple. The doll dressed totally in white appeared once more, her single eye forced wide with what could only be construed as murderous jealousy. “Onee-sama…” the doll slowly whispered in a tone that was void of all emotion. Suigintou immediately whipped her body between the mirror and Tsugumi, unconsciously protecting her master. The safe and easy setting had been shattered in that instant. Although she didn’t see whoever had spoken, Suigintou immediately recognize the state of the mirror’s surface. Someone had been attempting to come from an n-Field into the room.
“My, my, such an intrusion… and you don’t even stay for a chat?” she asked the mirror quietly, hoping for a response. That voice… its dryness, the sense of sharpness and inflection… That voice definitely wasn’t one of the dolls which were confirmed to be awake, nor was it the voice of Laplace’s Demon. That could only mean one thing: another doll was awake. Suigintou looked cautiously back at her Medium, who was still sleeping soundly. His search for other Mediums would be meaningless… if the remaining dolls didn’t have one. “Ah, what a charming turn of events.”
---
In an n-Field made up completely of white rose bushes sat the white doll. She sat upon a jutting stone uprising which matched neither the landscape nor the color scheme. The doll looked out over the expansive gardens with a gentle smile on her face, but it was merely a misleading disguise. Inside her burned a heart of sheer madness. The doll’s right eye itself was a white rose, and two viney roses held back her flowing white hair. Her white dress was simpler but no less beautiful than that of the other Rozen Maiden. Her knee-high white boots were also something Rozen had used only for her.
To an innocent bystander, this doll may have been mistaken as Alice herself. However, the apparition of a rabbit with a human body which watched over her knew the truth. Laplace’s Demon stood silently on the rock behind the doll. Her hair moved with the wind as it blew threw the gardens. Rozen’s seventh and final living doll…
Kirakishou.
The motives which had caused Rozen to stop at seven, or to proceed past six, were unknowns. They were undoubtedly necessary, though, in whatever master plan he had created all those years ago. Since that time the seventh doll had been sealed away, awaiting her chosen time. Not long ago had she awoken from her long slumber.
“So, Kirakishou… how is your sister Suigintou?” Laplace’s Demon finally asked. The doll looked down at her hand, which began to twitch uncontrollably.
“Onee-sama… Onee-sama is…” The images of Suigintou floating next to that human, touching his face, smiling at him… The skies immediately turned to darkness, and huge thorny vines rose out of the gardens. “That human,” she growled as she turned and faced the apparition.
“He is the human who is bound to her by a sacred pact, the Oath of the Rose.”
“Medium… I’ll kill…”
“Oh my, I’m afraid that’s impossible. You know that you do not have a physical body. You only exist here, in the n-Fields,” the rabbit explained in unusually clear terms. Kirakishou had a tendency to forget her largest limitation. Her real body had been lost in time. Only Laplace’s Demon knew of its resting place, but now wasn’t the time for the seventh Doll to be released upon the human world.
That time was closing much more quickly than anyone, Rozen included, had expected. Everything had hinged on that chance encounter. Rushing on her way to implement her unquestionably well-planned ideas, if the First Doll’s artificial spirit had been just a bit less attentive, Suigintou would have remained without a Medium for several more months.
Speaking of which… Laplace’s Demon bowed before stepping into a cut in the n-Field. Kirakishou was left alone, as usual. She sighed and sat down, her boots dangling over the edge of the precipice. “My beloved Father… Onee-sama… They all ignore me because I am trapped here. Even that Demon… leaves me alone.” She drew in a sharp breath, and all the vines she had summoned forth disintegrated into nothingness once more. “Onee-sama, if I eliminate your Medium, you’ll have to recognize me. You’ll have to love me!”

In the long-term care ward of a hospital near the Sakurada residence, Megu lie in wait. She had done so for such a long time, waiting for Death to finally free her from her miserable and pointless existence on Earth. As usual, she completely ignored the nurse when she offered her food; the IV was enough to keep her alive. Anything more would be a burden on someone else…
The room’s window glinted in the sunlight, revealing a reflection of Laplace’s Demon. He watched as another candidate who may have become Suigintou’s Medium clung to life. It was unlikely that she could serve any purpose in this timeline. However, there was always that small chance…
The room’s door opened once more, somewhat surprising Megu. The nurses hardly ever bothered to pay her more than one visit every three hours. However, it wasn’t a nurse who had opened the door. Laplace’s Demon blinked his red eyes. ‘What an unpredictable boy,’ he thought with wonder.
“Who are you?” the girl asked. A young man about her age, with very short hair and dressed plainly, slowly approached her bed. “Who are you?” she asked again, obviously becoming annoyed.
“Sorry for the intrusion,” he calmly responded. “I don’t know if you remember, but we attended primary school together. We were in the same class for three years in a row. I’m Ohba, Ohba Tsugumi.” The girl showed no sign that she remembered him at all. He placed a hand behind his head, becoming a little uncomfortable. “We threw a big party on your seventh birthday, remember? Class 3-1… I sat two seats behind you that year.”
“It’s hard to remember anything except this hospital,” she spat. Tsugumi let his hand down and lowered his head a little.
“Sorry… I’ve been doing a lot of research lately, for school,” he partially lied. “I came across one of my old yearbooks… I don’t understand why, but I felt an urge to visit you. Even though you never said so, we all knew you had a weak body back then… To be honest I was surprised to find that… well…”
“That I’m still alive, living this unsightly existence?”
“No- that’s not what I meant!” he defended. She smiled a bit.
“It’s OK. I guess I should be shocked and grateful that anyone came to visit me at all, let alone a classmate from so long ago,” she explained gently. Megu examined him more closely. His rose-shaped ring which seemed to be glowing stood out. “That’s a pretty ring. Are you engaged?” He chuckled nervously.
“No, nothing like that… What kind of woman would want to marry someone like me?” he rhetorically asked. Megu shrugged, her eyes becoming just a little brighter. “It’s just a coincidence that I’m wearing it on my ring finger…”
“Oh. Well, you seem nice to me.”
“Eh?”
“You’d have to have a big heart to come and visit someone you thought died years ago, whom you barely knew as a child,” she nonchalantly replied. Tsugumi looked at her with wide eyes. “Although if I was dead, things would be much better for both of us.”
Laplace’s Demon slid out of the window pane. Things were going well, if a little chaotically.

In the middle of the night, while Jun and the other dolls were all fast asleep, Suiseiseki slowly opened her case. She hadn’t been able to sleep well at all in the past week. After all, her twin sister, Souseiseki was…
The brunette doll remembered what Shinku had said to her. ‘It’s true… I should have known that Shinku would have realized it. Souseiseki and I have always been together; we’ve even shared a master most of the time. We have always been awake together. I thought I could forget those painful feelings if I did things like torment chibi-Ichigo and watch Kun-kun. I guess it was only a matter of time though… Now I can’t get that inarticulate doll and her old geezer of a master out of my head. So now… I’ll go and convince her to leave him behind. And I won’t take ‘no’ for an answer!’
As quietly as she could, Suiseiseki tip-toed out of Jun’s room and downstairs, to the storage room. As she pressed her small hand against the mirror, it began to glow a soft white. Taking a deep breath, she entered the mirror.
…
A number of blocks away, Shostakovich’s ‘Cello Sonata in D minor’ played in a small apartment. Tsugumi was hunched over his desk, tapping the end of a pencil against the wood. He felt rejuvenated after sleeping for a day and a half. The young man ran a hand through his disheveled hair. He stared down at the book he was reading- a book on doll-making, specifically porcelain dolls. For the first time in days, he felt as though he had found something that was impossible for him. Even to create a piece like a torso, a high-quality kiln was much, much more than he could afford. ‘My only choice is to find a doll-maker in town here whose work is extraordinary… Even then, with precise measurements, I don’t know how to install such a piece into an existing doll. There’s no way I could bring Suigintou down to the doll-maker. Perhaps this dream of mine is asking too much?’
The sound of a latch alerted him to Suigintou’s awakening. He quickly closed the book and pushed it aside. The black-clothed doll stood and stretched. “I’ve never heard of a human who keeps such odd hours,” she yawned, covering her mouth with her small white hands. He shrugged.
“I could say the same for you. It’s past midnight. Anyway, good morning.” She cocked her head to the side a little. His body language was a little… odd. She couldn’t place a finger on it, but…
“What are you doing over there?” she asked, floating towards the desk slowly.
“N-nothing really,” he stuttered. She examined his desktop carefully. The book she had seen earlier had disappeared. She decided it probably wasn’t a good idea to ask him about it just yet.
“My Medium, I have something I’d like to show you. But first, I’d like some tea. Clean yourself up, too.”
“Oh? Are we going somewhere?” he asked. She slapped him lightly, not enough to hurt him.
“It’s rude to question a Lady’s intentions. Now, prepare some tea.”
Fifteen minutes later, Suigintou set her teacup down with a subdued clatter. Tsugumi appeared from his bathroom. He had used some kind of gel to push his hair up into sharp spikes. He wore a button-up shirt which was black with dark purple vertical stripes. It remained untucked, though. His blue jeans remained the same. “You clean up nicely,” she noted with a bit of laughter. He looked at her with uncertainty.
“I think I need a hair cut again… Oh, just a moment…” He went over to his tiny closet and dug around for a bit, finally pulling out a pair of black shoes with no apparent way of lacing them up. “My Puma Satori CVs… They’re my favorite shoes; I haven’t worn them since graduation,” he explained sheepishly as he pulled them on. “I’m ready.”
“Good.” She floated over to the mirror, motioning for him to follow. As the two stood in front of the mirror, its surface began to ripple. Tsugumi gasped and started to step away, but Suigintou grabbed his finger in her small hand. She turned her head slightly, so he could see the outline of her face. “Remember this: you made a promise to protect my Rosa Mystica. In return I will protect you.” He swallowed the lump in his throat and nodded.
Suigintou looked forward again. “You’re a good boy, Tsugumi.” She floated forward and entered the mirror dragging her Medium along with her. He tried to ignore the burning heat he felt emanating from his ring. He began to feel weightless…
/ / /
Before he realized what was going on, the laws of the physical world were present once again. He fell to the ground, barely having time to get his legs under his body before landing. “W-… where are we?” he asked out of curiosity. He looked around. It looked like some kind of old European city which had been heavily bombed. Many of the stone buildings were crumbling, their windows broken. The sky, however, was a bright and cloudless blue. “What is this place?” Suigintou silently flew forward, causing Tsugumi to go after her.
“This is an n-Field- mine, actually. All of the Rozen Maiden have their own n-Fields, which reflect their innermost self. It’s kind of the setting that our Rosa Mystica create, similar to your human soul,” she explained calmly.
“Why did you bring me here?” he asked as he walked behind her.
“I don’t think you should be worried about that,” she quickly replied, obviously aggravated. “You should consider yourself lucky. No human has ever been invited to my n-Field before, although Shinku did drag her own dim-witted servant here.”
“You fought with her here? Just recently?”
“Yes, 620 hours ago,” she quietly responded. “Somehow her Medium was able to upset the advantage I have here…” Tsugumi realized that she had been beaten, on her own turf no less.
“It won’t happen again.” The doll twirled around and faced him, surprise written on her face. “Not here or in any other n-Field.” She returned his confident smile. “It’s my duty to protect your Rosa Mystica.”
Suigintou turned and faced forward again to hide the blush that was growing on her cheeks. The pair remained silent as they reached the church which she considered to be her home base. Tsugumi was confused by the dissonant feeling he got from the church as he walked down its aisle. The stained glass windows were so stunning, the red velvet carpeting so plush… And yet the pews were cracked and broken. Spider webs had taken over the church’s corners. The huge wooden cross behind the altar was snapped in half, its top lying on the floor.
He noticed Suigintou had sat down on a wooden chair on the altar, which used the same red velvet as the carpeting. The normal-sized chair seemed huge compared to her small body. He slowly approached her. “Come up here. This is why we came.” Tsugumi nodded and stood beside her chair. The doll crossed her legs and summoned the mirror fragments. Her Medium watched in awe as the pieces began to shine brightly, eventually becoming images of what could only be the real world.
“These are…?” he asked, his voice trailing off in amazement. She nodded.
“These are the other Rozen Maiden. I can watch them from this place and keep track of all their actions as they happen.” Two of the fragments merged together to form a larger image of two closed cases. “Oh my, Shinku and Hina-ichigo seem to have a much stricter sleep-schedule than you.” Another fragment showed a sleeping Sakurada Jun. “Her Medium…” Suigintou growled. Two more of the images began to melt together, which interested the first Sister. “Ohoho! This is a motivating development!”
“What is?” her Medium asked, leaning in a little closer. The image showed a boyish-looking doll, asleep but not in her case. A mirror in the same room lit up. “Is another doll going to come through the mirror?” Sure enough, a doll with very long, brown hair and a green dress stepped through.
“Suiseiseki and Souseiseki, the twin gardeners. Their artificial spirits have the ability to allow entry to anyone’s dream world. When used together, they can even lock a human inside its dream. However, this usually causes that human to… break,” she explained.
“Why are they together there? It looks like they are upset,” Tsugumi noted.
“I thought it was unusual for those two to be separated,” Suigintou sneered. “However, this could be an advantage…” Suigintou bit her thumb as she began to think. “Tsugumi, that tomboy Souseiseki is the doll connected to the old watchmaker you mentioned.”
---
In Suiseiseki’s n-Field, the two twin dolls stood in a forest inhabited by beautiful butterflies. “Why do you insist on staying with that old man?” Suiseiseki asked her younger sister. “Why not come back with me to Jun’s place ~desu?” Souseiseki suddenly looked up, meeting her sister’s gaze.
“Jun? Your new master?” she asked plainly. Suiseiseki’s eyes widened for just a moment before she looked away.
“Well, that is… We haven’t made a Contract yet, but…”
“But?”
“You see… He’s a hopeless runt of a human… If I’m not around him, I’ll worry and worry…” she slowly explained, blushing just a bit.
“He seems like a good person. You like him?”
“E-e-eh?! No, no, it’s nothing like that!” she countered. “It’s just that he’s so much better than that old man! Besides, Shinku and Hina-ichigo are there too!” Souseiseki smiled as she remembered the old times they had all spent together.
“Shinku and Hina-ichigo… Just like old times.”
“Yes, that’s right!” Suiseiseki replied, becoming excited. Her plan was beginning to work! “So, come back with me and we’ll pledge to Jun together. After that-”
“Oh my, such a touching argument.”
“W-w-w-what was that?” Suiseiseki trembled, jumping to hide behind her sister. Souseiseki looked around cautiously. Abruptly, Suigintou and a tall human stepped out of the forest and into the clearing. “Eeee! S-s-s-suigintou! How dare you come into my field without asking!”
“Suigintou, what is the meaning of this?” challenged Souseiseki as she took up a defensive position.
“Honestly, you seemed too nostalgic when speaking of Shinku and Hina-ichigo, I thought I would stop by as well,” she explained, laughing in a rather condescending way.
“Who is that human?” Souseiseki asked her sister in a hushed tone.
“It’s her Medium!” Suiseiseki whispered, remembering the time he visited Jun’s house. “Even if this is my Field, we don’t stand a chance against her when he’s around!” she whined. Souseiseki’s eyes narrowed.
“Lempicka,” she called. Her artificial spirit appeared and summoned her shears.
“Oh, I didn’t come here to fight you weak dolls,” Suigintou stated before any attack could take place. Souseiseki lowered her weapon slowly. “Suiseiseki was offering to take you back to make a Contract with Shinku’s Medium. Am I correct?”
“That’s none of your business ~desu!” Suiseiseki yelled from over her sister’s shoulder. Suigintou shrugged.
“In any case I thought I should give you the same offer. Tsugumi here is far more competent than that little boy and the old man. So, Souseiseki, what will you choose?” The doll in question narrowed her eyes at her opponent. The look on Suigintou’s face… She was hiding something.
“I would never team up with a fanatical doll like you,” she responded venomously. Suigintou shrugged, her malicious smile growing.
“Ahaha! Honestly, that’s exactly what I expected you to say, Souseiseki. In that case I’ll accept your Lempicka. If you don’t agree…” A flurry of feathers suddenly flew past Souseiseki. She was surprised that none of them hit her… Then the sound of her sister’s screaming clued her in to Suigintou’s real plan. “I’ll just have to force Suiseiseki to give me her Jade Dream instead!” Souseiseki turned and found her sister pinned to a tree by black feathers.
“There’s no way I’ll let that happen!” Souseiseki yelled as she rushed at Suigintou. The black-clothed doll flapped her wings, blowing Souseiseki off her feet and to the ground. The hundreds of black feathers which flew past her were nearly impossible to dodge. She tried to block them with her shears, but they were quickly pulled out of her hands from the feather’s force. Souseiseki cried out in pain as she feather’s pierced through her clothes.
“Oh my, they are so much sharper now that I have a Medium,” Suigintou giggled.
“Souseiseki!” Suiseiseki cried in desperation. Her sister couldn’t respond; she was almost overcome by the feathers. “Suigintou, stop! You can have … I’ll give you Jade Dream!”
The barrage of feathers immediately halted. Suigintou stared at the hanging doll, releasing her at last. “That’s a good girl. Now…” Souseiseki struggled to stand.
“Suiseiseki, don’t!” she urged, but her sister simply shook her head. Suiseiseki cupped her hands.
“Jade Dream,” she summoned. Her bright green artificial spirit appeared. In the background Tsugumi quickly wiped away a tear which had unexpectedly rolled down his cheek. Suiseiseki silently told her spirit, ‘I’m releasing you now. You belong to Suigintou.’ The spirit complied and flew over to the aggressor, who laughed once more.
“Good girl… And now…” Jade Dream twirled around in the air, changing into the Gardener’s Water Can. Suigintou sprinkled some water onto the ground. A large vine sprung forth and swallowed up Souseiseki’s already beaten body. “Souseiseki, you will give me your Lempicka! Either that, or I’ll be happy to turn you into junk and take your Rosa Mystica!”
Suiseiseki’s eyes widened. “Suigintou, you can’t!”
“Fine. I’ll do as you say.”
“Eh?!” Suiseiseki rushed over to the vine that held her sister. “You can’t! If she has both of them- ”
“Be quiet!” Souseiseki yelled, causing her older twin to shrink back. The shears which had fallen to the ground transformed back to Lempicka and slowly made its way over to Suigintou.
“Ahahaha! It was nice doing business with you! You’re both so kind,” she happily said. The doll turned and said something to her Medium before the two of them disappeared back into the forest. Suiseiseki whipped her head around and stared at her sister as the vine disappeared.
“Souseiseki, what were you doing?! If she… What is she uses Jade Dream and Lempicka to enter humans’ dreams?” she cried, grabbing her sister’s shoulders. Souseiseki was too worn out to fight back. Her head fell limply.
“She most definitely will. In fact she will probably target Jun, if he is Shinku’s Medium. But… You weren’t watching Suigintou’s Medium, were you?”
“Well, no… I was concerned about other things ~desu!”
“He cried.” Suiseiseki suddenly released her sister, who fell to the ground. She was, in a word, shocked.
“That cold-hearted, conniving, scary human was…?” Her younger sister nodded as she pulled herself up.
“As Suigintou attacked us, I saw him wiping tears away. I can’t explain why,” she stated plainly.
“But why? What kind of human is he?”
“I have to go… The master is calling me…” Souseiseki said with a painful grunt.
“What? You’re still saying that? You can’t even help that old woman anymore
without Lempicka ~desu!” she pointed out.
“That may be true… but I can’t just abandon my master.”
End of Fourth Thorn.

Hrm...I was thinking about it and I think that Laplace's theory of causal determinism can be likened to a quantum mechanics. As in, that the universe works not in definites but rather, based on probabilities. There are x number of possible scenarios from the simultaneous processing of all information in nature and that the probabilities of any scenario occuring is the key.
In RM context, I don't think they intellectualised it that far as he does seem to have a certain agenda. He saves Shinku & Jun early in Season 2 but in the end Shinku was still defeated by Barasuishou. But then again, perhaps if Barasuishou didn't absorb ALL the Rosa Mysticae at once she wouldn't have broken. So perhaps he WAS all knowing. But this doesn't negate the element of free will on the dolls' part.
Well, I guess his world is limited to the n-Fields. I dont think he had to manipulate Enju and Bara, remember, the Demon doesnt manipulate anything, he merely takes all that data in the n-field and applys a single all-binding law, mathematical formula to it. Outside, he loses that ability to, has to take another form and has to manipulate "outsiders" to make whats happening in the outside parallel to or fit in with what he knows will happen inside the n-Field. I suppose that why the dolls can exercise freewill outside? Hmm.. so the dolls are safe as long as they dont fight in the n-Field. :heh: Gah this is really confusing. I'm going to sleep now. :D

That makes it impossible because the probabilities are infinite.
Hmm, but how is that similar to causal determinism? I understand that causal determinism does not work on probabilities but definites? Thats why I feel that free-will is mutually exclusive to causal determinism because free-will introduces that randomness that makes the finding of an all-binding formula impossible. :heh: But meh, ignore me, my understanding of both is limited at best. Forgive my ignorance. :)

Hell, that agenda may be the formula. Hmmm? Didnt she not absorb them ALL at once? But she still broke?

edit 2!: As of today, Rozen Maiden DVD 6 ordered, RM manga Vol 2. (US) and Vol. 7 (JP) preordered. Vol. 6 (JP) still awaiting shipment from Japan (backstocked).
How do you imagine the Dreams of Suiseiseki, Souseiseki and Kanaria? Good point.
The dream of Shinku is a Victorian Palace, Hinaichigo a Toy-Land and Suigintou a City in Ruins.

What about Kira's N-field in the manga?
What about Kira's N-field in the manga?
Maybe can be a perturbant garden with much vines and with much dolls traped in there, like a spide-web.....SCARY, dont you?
Time for Alu to sweep in with her superlong post on her favourite doll ranking :D
You had to make me go back 143 pages for this didn't you :p
Anyway.., I know I haven't been on much lately.., sometimes I wish I could pop-in and out of places using the N-Field.., that would definitly make things alot easier :D
Anyway, on the favorite doll subject; I went back and found my old "small" post on them ^^.., but it wouldn't make sence for me to post this again.. so.., I am making a little change ;)
Since we already know alot about Kira.., I belive I should place her in the list aswell, thus naturaly she will take someone else's place.., since I realy like her type of character too.
Hence, my selection is as follows :
The First.., of course.. could only be Suigin Tou !
Gin was actualy the only reason why I ever decided to watch Rozen Maiden.., I saw a few wallpapers of her and then started reading on how she was such a magnificent antagonist that I just had to see it for myself.
Needless to say I was surprised, not only at that but at her entire progress through the anime up until the end of season 2...; not many characters have such a complexed emotions which realy drives me to understand them...
So naturaly.., It would be impossible to resist Gin.
For Second.., I'll have to go with Suisei Seki
What an unbelivable character.., so beyond Devious and yet also so Shy.., its just alot of fun to watch her.., plus.., if there is any word that is probably bigger then the entire Rozen Maiden anime.., it has to be the "~Desu" that our dear Sui so loves to use :)
Third.., might shock a few.., but I'll have to go with Sousei Seki
Her role in the story progressed at a slow rate altough her emotions are what realy draws me to her, despite always beeing calm and serene, the feeling of self-devotion towards what she belives to be right is just outstanding.
She is yet a tragic character though.., for at the end she does realise that her choice was rong into taking part of the Alice Game.., yet.., it is too late for her to go back..; which realy makes her end pretty dramatic.
Fourth will go to Kira Kishou.
Kira from what we have seen in the manga realy displays a phsycotic caracter and will probably lead Season 3 into a much more darker tone then ~Traumend~ was...
The way everyone has been portraying Kira's personality is just perfect for these type of antagonists.., her own expressions & attitudes realy justify that of someone who is mentaly instable as we witnessed what she did to Hina's body.
In my eyes, these type of characters bring alot of development to the story.., and clearly Kira has been pulling the strings all along with Laplace.., even when we thought Bara was doing that.
Thus I am realy looking forward to seeing Kira in Season 3 and I am pretty sure that my expectations will not go to waste :)
Fifth... Shinku.
Altough it is known that most people who like Gin above all characters realy dislike Shinku :p , well.. I kind of share that feeling but all and all I have to say the story couldn't be done without her so..
Shinku is a very nice character aswell.., her emotions shifted alot from season 1 where she thought she had to fight to become Alice with no regrets of the others to when season 2 she became aware of the losses in battle and how it would be better if the Alice game never toke place.., and that realy built her caracter from a snobby aristrocrat to a much more sentimental Shinku inside.
Sixth.. Bara Suishou
Well.. she is the main antagonist in the second season, but as far as that role is will always (at least to me) remain more of a filler for Gin..., altough as her caracter goes, she is deeply silent, very un-emotional.., which well, lets face it.., realy suits her and is actualy what is best of her personality.
Altough, she does have feelings, she loves Enju very much and that reason alone is why she fought all the others, she wanted to prove herself to her father by becoming a better doll then any of which Rozen had created.
Now, for Seventh... I can't choose between both so..
Its Kanaria & Hina Ichigo
I kind of left the chibi's for last.. because well.., they're realy not what drew me to this anime.., altough they are alot of fun to watch.., I don't see the point of them apart from giving another type of content; which is not a bad thing though.
There where alot of scenes in which due to these 2 that we surely laughted alot, specialy in the "Stairs" episode from season 1 and the 3rd episode of season 2.
They both are tremendous clutz's, but despite this Hina does have a very sad ending.. which kind of makes me a bit sad to leave her so down in the list.., but all and all, much her like Kana are (like all the RM characters) good characters.., its just.. to me.. well.., my preferences are listed as above :p
- In the end.., my preferences still remain mostely the same :)
And all and all..
Looking at of the recent posts.., this one doesn't seem as big as before :p
But truth be said though.., you guys are doing a Great! work on those fan-fictions; I enjoyed Very much reading everyone of them, and like you all.. I still so wish for a Season 3 or at least some more information regarding it :(
Oh.. and I can't belive Flo again got the "mark" post ^^, this time for the 5k one :)
hmmm.. ah.., I forgot to mencione..
I got Solwy working on another Gin wallpaper as we speak ;) , its taking alot of time to compleat, though.. from what I have so far seen.., Trust me! when I say you all will just faint when you see it :D
Or at least I know I will ^^
You had to make me go back 143 pages for this didn't you :p
I needed a reference back to my own Favourite post. :p :)
Man I cant wait for Sol's wallpaper.
@ Lost
What I meant about absorbing all the Rosa Mysticae at once was absorbing them all in one course of one climatic battle which was what happened :D
Oh, about quantum mechanics, you're right. There are an infinite amount of scenarios but again, an all-knowing intelligence would know the probabilities of each of those scenarios eventuating. That's the key, not just knowing all the scenarios.
Causal Determinism vs Quantum Mechanics
Ok...I'm not quantam physicists and never will be :D. Anyway, the thing which bugs me about causal determinism is that if you knew all the information there was at any one particular time, you could theoretically "know" the future. However, there are things such as free will, which to me exists (I dislike to think that all my actions are pre-ordained from the moment of my birth) which are not absolute determinates. As such, there are only probabilities that a certain scenario would eventuate. Remember that Laplace was a mathematician and a astronomer first and foremost and mathematicians tend to deal with definites (for example numbers) and as such tend to ignore other substantive factors in our universe. Therefore, I've adopted a slightly different take on Laplace's Demon and instead of it being an oracle of sorts, is an intelligence who can see the probabilities of seeing an event occuring ala quantum mechanics.

Enough ~desu?
How do you imagine the Dreams of Suiseiseki, Souseiseki and Kanaria? Good point.
The dream of Shinku is a Victorian Palace, Hinaichigo a Toy-Land and Suigintou a City in Ruins.
Suiseiseki's dream world would be of Jun feeding her whipped cream covered strawberries all day long in a sunlit garden.
Kanaria's dream world is easy to think of. Her dream world consists of a university where all the students truly believe she the smartest person in the world.
Souseiseki's dream world would be full of scantily clad women who resemble Suiseiseki saying desu.... Uh perhaps not.
What about Kira's N-field in the manga?
Kira's n-field is obviously located inside an insane asylum where the role of patient and nurse are reversed.
Call me crazy but could the Bastard Bunny be Rozen in disguise? We know the goal of the Rozen Maiden is to become Alice, but what if there can be more than one Alice? Alice may simply be a title like grandmaster is a title in the chess world. In this case, a Rozen Maiden becomes Alice when Rozen determines that she has matured to the point that she is an adult (i.e. she is no longer the immature little girl she started as but is a very caring and understanding woman).
To make the dolls work toward Alice Rozen has to, in one way or another, force the dolls to work toward the Alice goal. How does he do this? He poses as the Bastard Bunny so the dolls believe he's the enemy. This is where Kirakishou comes in. Even though she's created by Rozen she truly isn't a Rozen Maiden (Rozen never planned her to be a Rozen Maiden in the first place thus the reason she lacks a physical body). Kira's sole reason to exist is to make the dolls work toward Alice by force. Rozen Maidens will die (bodies will be destroyed but the roza mystica can't be destroyed thus giving hope the dead can be brought back to life) making the remaining dolls a tighter group (i.e. maturing) hopefully. It also means the dead dolls will take longer to become Alice if they are brought back to life.
If we look at how each of the Rozen Maidens' personalities have changed during the course of the anime, what do we see? They are all growing up maturity wise. Suigintou no longer kills her mediums because she's learned to love (but she has to stop hating Shinku for calling her Junk). Shinku is less demanding and less stubborn (I believe she's the closest to becoming Alice). Hinaichigo is less selfess though she's still has a very long way to go. Suiseiseki made the decision to become a pacifist though she has to learn to be less bitchy (I'm sorry Suiseiseki). Souseiseki is still sexually confu... I mean she was willing to sacrifice herself for her master (at least in the manga), while in the anime she's still partially blinded by her loyalty for Rozen. Kanaria still has a long way to go because she's also quite childish with that kashira-thing she has going on.
This might explain why Rozen told Shinku that there were other ways to become Alice other then killing her sisters. Though Shinku doesn't quite understand what those other ways are yet.
Can someone explain why the Bastard Bunny enters and exits the n-field through a vagina?! Or is the opening a clue? Perhaps the clue is when a doll has become Alice she truly is a different person maturity wise than she was at the beginning.
My head hurts now.
@hizashi: Lol I get what you mean, and I too do believe wholly in free-will. :)
Souseiseki's dream world would be full of scantily clad women who resemble Suiseiseki saying desu.... Uh perhaps not.
I'm sorry, thats my dream world.

Unlikely, because to be Alice you need ALL the RosaMysticae. That means depriving the rest of theirs. BUT. That aside, I remember some talk about this maturity issue some time back, and while I dont think Rozen is BB, its quite possible that BB is an agent of Rozen, like you said, a catalyst to go hand in hand with Kira. I need to think on it to make further comment. I need sleep first.

I completely forgot about needing all the rosa mystica to become Alice, which means my hypothesis about multiple Alices is debunked as far as I'm concerned. Though thinking about it, Rozen did say there are other ways to become Alice. It's possible he meant that one doesn't need the other rosa mystica to become Alice. But I may be wrong (hurry up Peach-Pit!).
I have 4 chapters of my fanfic nearly finished (they're still undergoing editing).
The name of the chapters are as follow:
Chapter 1: If Only It Was A Dream
Chapter 2: Shinku as Detective Kun Kun
Chapter 3: Suiseiseki's Relief
Chapter 4: Breakfast and Aftermath
Chapter 5: The Start of the Investigation (working title)

Oooo the point about BB being all knowing and god like (suffering from hang over here)... If this was the case then would Rozen be equivalent to Dr Frankenstein and the maidens are the abnormalities to BB's world and his meddling is him trying to restore order to it.
Sou's dream world would be of Rozen prancing around naked in the sunny field of flowers giggling like a girl... <- Gah what a horrible image....

@Suiseiseki: I agree with you that an alternate (i.e., based on last episode) way/s of becoming Alice is out there. Maturing into a woman seems like a logical next step, but I don't believe that this is the final step. Strong character can't be the only key to becoming Alice. I don't know where to go from there, though...
I also agree that Kira may or may not be a true Rozen Maiden. The dolls knew there were seven RM. So, if Kira wasn't created with a physical body, could there be another Maiden out there?
Suigintou's dream world... In the drama CD, Suigintou's track talks about her having a dream where she's in a ballroom waiting for father to come and dance with her. I accept this as her dream...
Kira's n-Field... I'm not sure. I haven't been able to get my hands on Vol.6 and Vol.7 doesn't come out until later this month. Well I'm off to work...

I think Souseiseki's dream world is a forest or sorts, with a bird which keeps shrieking "Kadzuki! Kadzuki!"
Oh wait, where did I see that.....

Hmmm I have difficulty with seeing how some of the maidens could mature into a woman. For example Shinku's attitude and demeanor in my opinion is rather mature already, any more she would be going to the grandma stage.....
My opinion (which could have been stolen from someone else) is that Rozen saying that there other ways of becoming Alice is because they have outgrown the system he set in motion.
(I still have my doubts about Rozen being a good father as he Alice game seems so brutal and encourages the worst aspects of humanity)
I remember someone comparing the maidens to Saber Marrionette and how each Rosa Mystica was a certain aspect of a perfect woman. Now the thing is _what if_ they were right, but Rozen didn't anticipate that instead of each maiden having a single facet of a person, they all ended up with full personalities and their interperations of an experiment he created....
I think our main problem in any analysis of RM and the Alice game is we don't know Rozen's initial goals and reasoning.

grey you really made me think with that post..
Remembering that the RM's have a long history of existence, perhaps it is as you said: they have outgrown the system he set.
My idea --> He initially created them with one personality each (Shinku being proud; Sui, Jealous; Sou, Loyal; Kana, egotistical) (again, stole that from your post, in bold), and they were like that, but at the start. The Alice Game would serve to combine those personalities thru, well RosaMysticae. Thru time, however, he found that these dolls could actually learn personalities, and add to their CORE self. And in that, they outgrew his expectations, becoming especially obvious at this time, JUST when the Alice Game comes to a climax. Thats why he realises it, and thats why he stops or fails to support the violent way, by telling Shinku that there are other ways.
In a way, the presence of the Alice Game looming does push that development of themselves, (else why the heck would they want to seek each other out) and so he may have realsied it earlier but fail to stop it at that time because he wanted that.. eh.. refinement to continue.
~~~
This is crazy but : Maybe, the Alice Game even serves for them (the dolls) as a purpose of existance, when the real purpose that Rozen wants is for them is to develop. I mean, "developing oneself" is hardly a reason for existence because one has to believe that one is already developed well enough, but, fighting, making an outward impact its a better reason for existence. But it is only a reason given to them. Lol crazy I know. Ah well.
Lost, that makes a whole lot of sense (not sarcasm!). Elaborating on that idea... Maybe Rozen didn't actually want the Alice Game to take place, but he needed a reason for the Maidens to have a sense of purpose and a reason to keep in contact with each other through time. I guess I have a problem with believing that Rozen really is a bad guy. I think he only wants the best for his masterpieces...
Also, just a thought... Could Alice just be a dream that Rozen made up so the dolls would strive to be better people anyway? I mean, if God came down and told me that I was created to fight 6 other people, and that the other people possessed a certain thing which would allow me 100% access to Heaven... Now, I'm not religious at all, but if that happened I'd sure as heck want to fight them all. Now, if God also said that we 7 people would live immortally with periods of sleep, I'd surmise that we would not always be awake together. God would say "that's right, and you must not fight until all of you are awake." In the mean time I would want to be a super-good person, with the ultimate hope that I would meet God again and live in a perfect world (Heaven).
Even if I died and God told me that I didn't have to fight and that there is no guaranteed entrance to Heaven, I'd still get into Heaven because I'd been a super-good person all those years. That's a really odd comparision, but that's how I feel. That's why I feel Rozen must have a good heart. One day, one or all of the dolls could become the perfect girl without even realizing it.
And now, a little more normal WTFness...
Rozen Grannies
Grandma Shinku: (searching around Jun's room) Dang nabbit! Where did I put my teeth?!
Grandma Hiniachigo: I ob em ~a o!
Grandma Shinku: Dang it, Hinaichigo. How many times have I told you not to put my dentures in your mouth?!
Grandma Hinaichigo: (Pulls Shinku's dentures out of her mouth and hands them to Shinku) Sorry ~na no.
Grandma Suiseiseki: (slowly enters with the help of a metal walker) Chibi-ichigo took my strawberry again ~desu!
Grandma Hinaichigo: I didn't take your strawberry ~na no!
Grandma Suiseiseki: (shakes her fist at Hinaichigo) If only I was younger I'd beat you up chibi-chibi!
Grandma Shinku: Are you sure the strawberry didn't fall in your Depends? (note: Depends are diapers for adults)
Grandma Suiseiseki: (acting insulted) De... De... Depends?! I don't wear Depends ~desu!
Grandpa Jun: (enters room and sniffs the air) Ugh. Someone needs a diaper change.
Grandma Suiseiseki: It's not me ~desu. W...w...why are you all looking at me like that ~desu?!
Grandpa Jun: The smell isn't coming from Suiseiseki, so she's in the clear. Hinaichigo?
Grandma Hinaichigo: I don't need diapers ~na no.
Grandma Suiseiseki: (with a evil twinkle in her eye) Shinku made a stinky ~desu!
Grandma Shinku: (acting upset and insulted) A lady of my caliber never lets body functions be known in public ~da wa.
Grandpa Jun: (smiling) Stinku... I mean Shinku... (he's hit with Shinku's diaper right in the face) Aww crap!!
Grandma Shinku: Never insult a lady ~da wa!
Grandpa Jun: (pulls the diaper off his face) Ewww. You had diarrhea!
Hmmm I have difficulty with seeing how some of the maidens could mature into a woman. For example Shinku's attitude and demeanor in my opinion is rather mature already, any more she would be going to the grandma stage.....
Shinku isn't mature because she's still pretty stubborn. It's her way or the highway.
Lost, that makes a whole lot of sense (not sarcasm!). Elaborating on that idea... Which means Rozen's goal is really wanting the Rozen Maiden to grow up one way or another, which is basically what I said earlier.
All we know is Rozen told the dolls that they have to fight each other to become Aice. Later he tells Shinku that there are other ways to become Alice. What does this mean? I don't have a freaking clue! Rozen needs to tell us directly what the hell he wants and not talk like a politician trying to appease everyone while running for office. For all I know mister bunny dude is the good guy and Rozen is the real bastard. If Rozen doesn't want to see any of his dolls dead why doesn't he say so? Why stand by and watch them fight each other, when he could step in and say don't fight? Now hating Rozen for his vagueness:frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:
Perhaps he doesn't step in because he is dead... Possibly, maybe he also only exists in the n-Fields and has no presence in the physical world. But now I'm delving into some of the truely unexplained phenomena which is part of the RM universe. How the heck has he lived ~275 years? (saying the dolls are Victorian and Victorian started in the early-mid 1700s I think.)
Maybe we've been dissecting the series too much here lately!
edit: Hm... I think you all post when I'm sleeping! Anyway, I plan on setting up a RM website (alice-game.com hopefully) if any news of a season 3 or OVAs hits, and I'm just curious if anyone would be interested in joining a standalone RM forum. I spent a bunch of time and money on an Evangelion forum that never garnered any attention, so I'm wary to try again. Fanfiction, manga release dates, image uploader, etc. are also part of my plans.
I'd be interested!! So I'll be the first to put my hand up to join a standalone RM forum.
I haven't been able to confirm anything. Something is going down at the Tokyo Broadcasting Station (TBS) Anime Festa (http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/festa/)from August 19-20. I've been pessimistic about this, thinking it was probably just a special showing of season 2. However, the little image on the page just reads 'Rozen Maiden' when they do also have a different Träumend button.
Just saying, nothing confirmed for or against any news. All the anime news sites I watch haven't said a thing.
I think I can understand where your going.. and well thats a good analogy. Sadly, the fact remains that there came a time when all 7 (ahem BaraBara) came around at the same time. And so far, Rozen only intervened because Bara wasnt a real, legal RM. That is why his objectives still remain so mysterious. In the real Alice Game (i.e with Kira aka S3) will he be so lenient? I dread to think of it. I guess I'm afraid that he's just a cold, strict, rule-sticker (he didnt recreate Hina -.-); the kind I have too much of in my School.
Actually, the fact that he didnt recreate Hina or Sou shows that he still endorses the Alice Game, even if he doesnt support it. And that is scary. Unless he wanted to; but couldn't because his nemesis/proxy turned rogue (:heh:) Rozen's Demon aka BB stole the 2 RosaMysticae.
Rozen dead? Unlikely, unless the person who appeared in S2 last episode wasnt him. Most of the fights take place in the n-field anyway.
@Lost: Living in America! God I hate that song... Anyways, yeah he didn't let Hina come back, but after watching through S2 again I realized that they left everything open. Yes Hina and Sou-chan are gone to mirror the manga, but everything seems too... open-ended. It kills me! WE DEMAND S3~ DESU!
I agree that we'd have to have a large number of people to cause the need for a separate forum. We'd have to move as a united force too, and keep an eye on this thread (or S3 thread) and spam the heck out of our forum of choice (with animesuki admin's approval of course).
I think Kirakishou is intended to be a Rozen Maiden despite not having a body. She does have a Roza Mystica after all. And not to mention, she doesn't have to leave the N-field, seeing all the fights were in there anyway.
Within the twisted and ever changing dream world of Kirakishou, now a lair for the doll maker and former apprentice of Rozen, Enju was pleased with the progress he had made so far; the hostile takeover of Kirakishou’s Dream World, the retrieval of Rozen’s dolls, Souseiseki and Hina Ichigo and their Rozen Mystical. He was ready to proceed to the next phase.
Enju: "Ahh…Rozen’s finest masterpiece and the life force of his precious duagthers, the Rozen Mystical. No matter how I see it, they are prefect in everyway, no flaws, no weaknesses. Even if studying the Rozen Mystical for hundreds of years, it is impossible to recreate them."
Shirosaki: "I’m glad you understand that planning to create your owned ‘Rozen Maidens’ is futile."
Enju: *grin* "Oh you’re mistake Shirosaki; You see, as perfect the Rozen Mystical may seem, nothing is said that you can’t give them, how should I say, ‘add-ons’." *Souseiseki’s Rozen Mystical appears in Enju’s hand* "and this here is perfect for my following experiments."
Shirosaki: *Curious* "Oh? What kind of experiments may I ask?"
Enju: "Souseiseki, the most loyal of the 7 sisters to Rozen, to the point where it leads to her downfall. Let’s just say I’ll test her loyalty to the limit."
Shirosaki: "And what about Hina Ichigo?"
Enju: "I have no use of a child, I’ll destroy her and her Rozen Mystical once I‘ve learnt how."
???: "Then allow me to take care of her."
Kirakishou appeared in front Enju and Shirosaki.
Enju: *Glares at Kirakishou* "How long have you been listening?"
Kirakishou: "Even though you occupy my Dream World, it is still my home." *Grins* "in any case I will take the 6th Doll, she would make an excellent plaything."
Enju: *Hmph* "Do as you wish."
Kirakishou: "However, I prefer my plaything ‘alive’."
Enju: "……"
Kirakishou: "I’ll take your silence as ‘go ahead’. *Grin widens* Then I won’t disturb you two further."
Kirakishou took a bow before leaving Enju and Shirosaki alone. Leaving trails of villainous giggles as she leaves.
In Sakurada’s residence, things went from bad to worse for Jun and the dolls. Kanaria immediately paid a visit when she received the news. The self-proclaimed “most intelligent” of all Rozen Maidens couldn’t believe what had happened as everyone sat at the dinning table.
Kanaria: *with a small sign saying ‘meeting in progress’ on the table* “That’s terrible ~kashira! Isn’t there anything we can do?”
No one replied her. And everyone fell silent, Shinku took a sip of tea and place the teacup on the saucer. She opened her mouth but her voice was soft, almost as if she’s talking to herself.
Shinku: “I wonder what Detective Kunkun would do in a situation like this.”
Suiseiseki: *Turn to Shinku* “What are you mumbling about ~desu?”
Shinku: *Calmly replied* “It’s nothing” *Took another sip of tea*
Suiseiseki slapped Shinku’s teacup off her hand, breaking the cup as it landed on the floor. She was never herself ever since Souseiseki and Hina Ichigo was taken away by Barasuishou, she became more agitated and depressed. Even when trying to hide it with her usual antics the signs of her change was obvious.
Suiseiseki: “How can you be so calm after what had happen ~desu!? Aren’t you worried bout Souseiseki and Chibi Ichigo!? We could have go search for them but all we did ever since was sitting on the couch and did nothing but watching that stupid dog ~desu! NOTHING!”
Shinku: “Then answer me this, exactly how are we suppose to find Hina Ichigo and Souseiseki?”
Suiseiseki: “I…we…” *Was lost of words*
Shinku: “I’m worried bout my fellow sisters as much as you do, but going around blindly to search for them is a waste of time.”
Jun: “Shinku is right, we don’t even know where to begin nor we have clues about their whereabouts.”
Shinku: “Simply put it, we’re in a dead end…”
Kanaria: “Then what now ~kashira?”
Shinku: “What else can we do, all we can do is wait…and hope…”
Silence once again surrounded the dinning room.
Kanaria: (Maybe I should tell Micchan ~kashira…)
Evening arrived and the meeting ended with nothing. Kanaria returned to her medium’s side, promised that if she find anything new she would inform Shinku and Suiseiseki immediately, which she swore on her reputation as the “most intelligent” of all Rozen Maiden.
“Hey there little missy, all alone?” A middle age man approached the little girl in white Victorian dress. “It’s not safe to be alone at night, should I take you somewhere safe?” The man moved closer to the girl, his face showed nothing but lustful intent. As he was bout to grab the girl’s hand, the man felt a terrible wrench of pain as his other hand was grabbed from the back.
“O w ow ow! What the fuck you’re…” The man’s scentence was cut off as a knife pointed at his neck.
???: “If you know what’s good for you, I suggest you should stay away from the little girl.” *Drew the knife closer to the man’s neck*
Man: O-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-k! OK! I’ll do whatever you say, j-just don’t kill me!”
The old looking butler let the man go, who immediately ran off scared.
Old Butler: “Are you hurt?”
The girl shook her head
Old Bulter: “The man was right about one thing, it is too dangerous to be alone at night. So please stay close to me at all times Ojou-sama.” *Hands the girl a paper bag containing steaming buns* “Please eat while they’re still warm.”
Alice: “Thank you, Lucifer.” *Took a bite at the bun as she look up to the night sky* “Conflict, confusion, fear. The Tortured Angel.” *Her eyes shifted to the hospital nearby*
Enju: *Glares at Kirakishou* "How long have you been listening?"
Kirakishou: "Even though you occupy my Dream World, it is still my home." *Grins* "in any case I will take the 6th Doll, she would make an excellent plaything."
Enju: *Hmph* "Do as you wish."
Kirakishou: "However, I prefer my plaything ‘alive’."
Enju: "……"
Kirakishou: "I’ll take your silence as ‘go ahead’. *Grin widens* Then I won’t disturb you two further."
Kirakishou took a bow before leaving Enju and Shirosaki alone. Leaving trails of villainous giggles as she leaves.
In Sakurada’s residence, things went from bad to worse for Jun and the dolls. Kanaria immediately paid a visit when she received the news. The self-proclaimed “most intelligent” of all Rozen Maidens couldn’t believe what had happened as everyone sat at the dinning table.
Kanaria: *with a small sign saying ‘meeting in progress’ on the table* “That’s terrible ~kashira! Isn’t there anything we can do?”
No one replied her. And everyone fell silent, Shinku took a sip of tea and place the teacup on the saucer. She opened her mouth but her voice was soft, almost as if she’s talking to herself.
Shinku: “I wonder what Detective Kunkun would do in a situation like this.”
Suiseiseki: *Turn to Shinku* “What are you mumbling about ~desu?”
Shinku: *Calmly replied* “It’s nothing” *Took another sip of tea*
Suiseiseki slapped Shinku’s teacup off her hand, breaking the cup as it landed on the floor. She was never herself ever since Souseiseki and Hina Ichigo was taken away by Barasuishou, she became more agitated and depressed. Even when trying to hide it with her usual antics the signs of her change was obvious.
Suiseiseki: “How can you be so calm after what had happen ~desu!? Aren’t you worried bout Souseiseki and Chibi Ichigo!? We could have go search for them but all we did ever since was sitting on the couch and did nothing but watching that stupid dog ~desu! NOTHING!”
Shinku: “Then answer me this, exactly how are we suppose to find Hina Ichigo and Souseiseki?”
Suiseiseki: “I…we…” *Was lost of words*
Shinku: “I’m worried bout my fellow sisters as much as you do, but going around blindly to search for them is a waste of time.”
Jun: “Shinku is right, we don’t even know where to begin nor we have clues about their whereabouts.”
Shinku: “Simply put it, we’re in a dead end…”
Kanaria: “Then what now ~kashira?”
Shinku: “What else can we do, all we can do is wait…and hope…”
Silence once again surrounded the dinning room.
Kanaria: (Maybe I should tell Micchan ~kashira…)
Evening arrived and the meeting ended with nothing. Kanaria returned to her medium’s side, promised that if she find anything new she would inform Shinku and Suiseiseki immediately, which she swore on her reputation as the “most intelligent” of all Rozen Maiden.
***
“Hey there little missy, all alone?” A middle age man approached the little girl in white Victorian dress. “It’s not safe to be alone at night, should I take you somewhere safe?” The man moved closer to the girl, his face showed nothing but lustful intent. As he was bout to grab the girl’s hand, the man felt a terrible wrench of pain as his other hand was grabbed from the back.
“O w ow ow! What the fuck you’re…” The man’s scentence was cut off as a knife pointed at his neck.
???: “If you know what’s good for you, I suggest you should stay away from the little girl.” *Drew the knife closer to the man’s neck*
Man: O-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-k! OK! I’ll do whatever you say, j-just don’t kill me!”
The old looking butler let the man go, who immediately ran off scared.
Old Butler: “Are you hurt?”
The girl shook her head
Old Bulter: “The man was right about one thing, it is too dangerous to be alone at night. So please stay close to me at all times Ojou-sama.” *Hands the girl a paper bag containing steaming buns* “Please eat while they’re still warm.”
Alice: “Thank you, Lucifer.” *Took a bite at the bun as she look up to the night sky* “Conflict, confusion, fear. The Tortured Angel.” *Her eyes shifted to the hospital nearby*
Lol.. I cant wait for Gin to meet Alice. After all, no one (with the possible exception of Shinku) wants to be Alice more.
SRDX Souseiseki figure is available for pre-order at HLJ! Release will come probably near the end of October.
This series is so underrated. I liked it a lot and the ending about how there is another way to be alice made me feel like there is another season to this. :)
Oh my, the forum seems to have slowed down considerably this weekend.
New trailer (http://youtube.com/watch?v=W7Yg48gkWi8) for a Rozen Maiden fighter coming out - ALiBAT (obviously meaning Alice Battle), Record of Rozen War. It's a doujin game for the PC and seems to have been in development for a while (like since Träumend was airing on TV), but it's pretty.
http://www.project-ynp.com/product/alibat/productAlibat.html
The game looks ok I guess but I won't be buying it or playing I don't think. The reason I like Rozen Maiden isn't because of the fight scenes anyway. But doesn't the game look a little pixelated?
erm funny huh???wha...?diapers?!?erm....you come this in your mind or you taken it from other websites?
I got the idea from this post:
Hmmm I have difficulty with seeing how some of the maidens could mature into a woman. For example Shinku's attitude and demeanor in my opinion is rather mature already, any more she would be going to the grandma stage.....
The diapers were my idea.
Warner Brothers announced that they are making a Rozen Maiden movie starring Steven Segal as Shinku, Arnold Schwarzenegger as Suigintou, and Bruce Willis as Suiseiseki:
Chapter 4
The hospital, cloudy afternoon.
Megu was looking out the window, singing the usual song. When she woke up earlier in the morning, her doll companion Suigintou was not around and Megu had been trying to get her to appear since then, which zero success.
Megu: *worried* “Suigintou, where are you?”
Little did Megu know that just outside the window she was looking at, Suigintou was just under the window, resisting the temptation of showing up. The newly found memories haunted Suigintou non-stop and to make matters worse, voices keep whispering into her ears as if tempting her to kill Suigintou’s medium. Fearing for Megu’s safety, Suigintou ‘disappearing’ while the girl was sleeping at night and was sitting under the window ever since.
Suigintou: (Megu…I’m sorry…)
“Why are you apologizing when she’s going to die by your hands?”
That sinister voice again, how the doll hated it and wished it goes away.
Suigintou: (Shut up.)
“I’m merely speaking the truth; you know you wanted to kill her.”
Suigintou: (Lies! I would never kill Megu!)
“It is futile to deny your bloodlust. You killed the last one without breaking a sweat. What difference does it make killing one more? Just look at her, what good can she do in this world other than causing misery to herself and people around her? She’s just a waste of space, a worthless piece of junk.”
The last word got Suigintou’s attention and anger, for obvious reasons.
Suigintou: (She’s not a Junk! One more word from you…)
“And you’ll kill me? If it’s you, then it’s truly a great honor.”
Suigintou: (What the?)
The last comment caught the doll off guard. What does the voice meant by that?
*Crash*
Suigintou: ???
***
Nurse: *Entered Megu’s ward* Megu-chan, I heard sound of broken glass from your room, are you okay?”
Nurse found a broken vase just beside her.
Megu: *Smiled at the nurse* “It’s nothing, my hand just slipped”
It’s obvious that Megu is not telling the truth, the broken vase wouldn’t be near the door if her hand slipped. .
Nurse: “Is something troubling you Megu-chan? You can talk to me about it.”
Megu: “Don’t worry about it, your shift would be over soon.” *Looked back at the window.* “You’re just check on me because it your job anyway.”
Nurse: “That’s not true; the time restriction means nothing to me. I don’t mind staying the whole day if I wanted to.” *pickin the broken vase.* “I’m willing to listen anything that’s troubling you, it isn’t like yourself to be acting like this .”
Megu: “Like myself?” *Turns to the nurse* “Exactly what you understand about me?”
Nurse: “Pardon?”
Megu’s face changed dramatically, namely anger.
Megu: “What do you know about me? That I’m a patient that is going to die anytime, is that what you’re trying to say? YOU DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ME! YOU DON’T KNOW THE PAIN AND TORTURE I’VE GONE THROUGH!”
Nurse: “Megu-chan calm down, you know that’s not tru…”
Megu: “SHUT UP! I DON’T NEED YOU AND YOUR FALSE KINDNESS! GET OUT OF MY ROOM!”
Nurse: “Megu-ch…”
Megu: “I SAID GET OUT!” *Throws another vase at the nurse, which broke near her.*
Nurse: “Eek! M-M-Megu-chan, calm yourself…”
Just at this moment a man enter the ward.
“Megu…”
The girl stopped her tantrum when she saw the man.
Megu: “Papa?”
Anyways let's think of who should be Kirakishou's voice actor in season 3.
1. My first choice would be Saori Goto (She voiced as Barasuishou in season 2 so she might do Kirakishou)
2. Tanaka Rie (Even though she did Suigintou, we could use another creepy/annoying laugh)
3. Ai Shimizu (I'm not sure myself.)
4. Ayako Kawasumi (She has a lot of voice-acting experience)
Well, I don't know much about VA, but I believe the voice actress must sound creepily cute. Maybe sounding cuter than Hinaichigo.
Then have Kirakishou doing acts of atrocity while smiling and speaking very cutely.
Creepiness factor +5.
Sorry for not contributing more todiscussion. I'm down with some bug so I'm spending most of my time in bed recovering. Awful August indeed..... :(
Hope you get better soon, personally I'm suffering from can't get that bleeping OS installed on our servers.....
Now back to the topic.... I don't think that Kira's voice should be cute as the way she appears in the ending of S2 just doesn't seem to give off that feeling. Her voice I believe should sound beautiful, from what I hear about what happens in the manga she defiently fits the role of the cover of the book does not reflect its contents....
Now how many of you will be shocked (aka pissed) if they rewrote her char and she ended up being a good guy?
Kira VA candidates...
KUWASHIMA Houko (Kirika in Noir, Quon Kisaragi in RahXephon, Rose Thomas in FMA, etc)
and of course I must say KOBAYASHI Sanae (Nyu/Lucy in Elfen Lied, Madlax in Madlax, etc)
Argh nooooo~ OS changes are the worse thing one could ever go thru..
Anyhow, I agree very much that her voice should sound beautiful.. not harsh beautiful like Gin's but soft and beautiful like Megu's. I'm serious. I agree with grey that her facade should be very different from her inside. I would be really pissed if they showed her to be bad for the better part of the series and then at the end make her good sacrificially.
I believe Kirakishou should be psychotic from the beginning to the end, and her primary focus should be Gin-sama, make her the main focus of Gin-related conflicts.
And her sounding cute, while acting evil. Creepy to the core. I believe this should be the main essence of Kirakishou. If she acts this way I might just like her.
Already I like her somewhat for being an obssessive Gin-sama worshipper.
Since the thread is slowing down, I'll attempt to stir the pot with a multi-tiered question.
1.) Love. Setting aside the facts that Jun is a human and Shinku is a doll...
A- Does/can Jun have feelings for Shinku?
B- Does/can Shinku have feelings for Jun.
2.) Implications
A- Looking at Shinku's actions in Jun's dream world at the end of Season 1, she really seems to be digging Jun. She says something to the effect of "my feelings for you will remain in this world." Does that mean that a Medium's dream world can affect a Rozen Maiden's emotions?
B- Even though its really just a cop-out to keep Shinku in character, if she returned to Jun's dream world would her feelings swell for him once more?
Answer as you see fit, and elaborate as necessary! *evil Gin-sama-esque laughter*
Mincemaker
Well, from what I can infer from the later part of season 1 and in season 2, Shinku does seem to be digging Jun even if she doesn't directly show it. Season 1, she is more concerned of Jun rather than her fight with Suigintou. The moment she found out about what happened to Jun, she rushed to his side, but eventually sent Nori. This already showed how much she cares for Jun. Then there's the end of season 1.
Season 2, she doesn't directly show her affection for Jun, but she does really like Jun's gift of the music box, and the two of them normally appears at very close proximity of each other. And not to mention she starts sharing all her concerns, fears and the like to Jun, showing how much she trusts him.
I guess from all these, it is clear that at the very least, the two of them are very very close, and Jun is Shinku's object of affection.
As for Jun, well, he gets annoyed, but in the second half of season 1, his desire to protect Shinku was apparently, to the point he was able to conjure up a very strong shield to protect Shinku when she was attacked by Gin-sama. In season 2, he shows that he cares for Shinku, especially at the end of it. And the last episode once again showed Jun does care for Shinku. He stopped her from doing something she will regret in life.
While I can't say if they had romantic interest in each other, I will say that the two of them share a very close relationship, probably much closer than a normal doll-medium relationship.
Good point. Another (somewhat rhetorical) question: Are Jun and Shinku perhaps a little too immature to clearly define what their relationship is? I mean, Jun's like 13, right?
... lucky bastard...
And not to mention she starts sharing all her concerns, fears and the like to Jun, showing how much she trusts him.
I would like to back this up with the events in episode 1 of Traumend, with Shinku confiding in Jun her turmoiled feelings with regard to junking Suigintou; really opening up to him, something she would not have done with her servant at the start of S1. To this I would also like to add that she was obviously hurt when Jun spoke harshly to her in episode 2 of Traumend.
http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/5465/shinkusadbl4.th.jpg (http://img224.imageshack.us/my.php?image=shinkusadbl4.jpg)
Yes she loves him, as he does her.
While I can't say if they had romantic interest in each other, I will say that the two of them share a very close relationship, probably much closer than a normal doll-medium relationship.
As much as I fawn over Suiseiseki, I don want to believe in a romantic relationship between Shinku and Jun for obvious reasons.
Are Jun and Shinku perhaps a little too immature to clearly define what their relationship is? I mean, Jun's like 13, right?
That would be the case if Shinku was a human girl of 13/14; and a romantic sexual relationship could be pursued; then I believe the bounds of a relationship would need to be defined. But she's not, she's a doll; and I dont see what else their relationship could be then that of deep friendship/companionship and the emotional and at times physical (not that kind of 'physical') reliance.
Even a 13 year old boy knows he cant pursue a romantic relationship with a doll! Whats Tomoe there for?
Lol, but you do remember that Jun occasionally forgets that the dolls are dolls. It is possible for Jun to become just like that doll-fetish guy from Shakugan no Shana, lol.
Anyway, Tomoe can out-compete Shinku and Suiseiseki in getting Jun's affection if she tries, since she is a human and a friend of Jun's at that. Too bad she is so deadpan normally.
Fact 1) Tomoe is very sneaky and often appears suddenly.
Fact 2) Tomoe carries that sword freaking everywhere.
Fact 3) All of the other known Mediums have had extreme personalities with obvious neuroses. By extension, it is likely that Tomoe has an extreme personality. However, she has not exhibited extreme personality traits. Discarding the un-fun possibility that she simply does not follow the trend, we are left to assume that she conceals her unusual behaviors, which by the laws of narrative causality means they must be even more unusual than those of the more obviously imbalanced Mediums.
There can be only one conclusion: Tomoe is a serial killer. Or some sort of ninja.
Have these been posted before?
Beware, Rozen Maiden. Today, Tomoe's stalking Jun. Tomorrow she may abduct Jun, and claim him for herself.
Potatochobit
you know i think one way for the dolls to become human is to have close relationships with real people. so maybe in the future her falling in love with Jun brings her to completion.
in a similar way, the same applies to suigintou. although she isnt playing any kissy face her desire to be with Megu and seeing the darker side of how fleeting humanity is will help bring her to completion to value life and the time spent with others.
Hey hey hey! I wasnt being dirty! I was being realistic. Realistic! Having recently gone thru that same process of relationship defining with a close girl friend, I supposed that was on my mind. Notice I said romantic and sexual together; I wasnt meaning ZOMG sex before marriage; I meant sexual as in a healthy relationship between two people of the opposite sex that led up to marriage, and whatever would come after that. Okay maybe 13/14 is waaay too young for romantic-sexual relationships, but like I said I was thinking of the future, when they're 18-20 and the possibility of a romantic relationship becomes real. Then again, welcome to the 21st century, where more and more preteens are copulating.
There I hope you understand now. :p Kinda takes the fun out of everything huh.
Sure perhaps, that kind of love. Yes, but then I guess my point was that where the "love" can't be taken to a point where I could say I want to 'go stead' with you (i.e. slang for entering a BG-relationship - a real relationship that would affect the rest of your life), then whats the need to define the relationship and set bounds? The furthest it can get is as you say, true compatibility and real love (platonic, even) and thats that. No need to seat down and talk and define how far your friendship should go, because Shinku being a doll, the love can only go so far. And I think that Jun and Shinku's relationship as friends has gone as far as it can - to the point where Jun (and even Shinku) are willing to physically be hurt for the other.
Lol, sorry for the rant. :D
romantic realtionship without having intimate relations.
It depends, there are plenty of chaste unmarried couples outthere. And even then, they are intimate with each other, tho not to the point of patting or sex (or its deriviatives). But the thing is, those couples are traveling to the point of marriage and after you're married, dont tell me you can carry on a romantic relationship without sex. :heh:
So to keep this on topic;
I agree that Shinku shares real love with Jun,
Yes, of course you can have love without sex (btw for the record, romantic love and friendship love are two very different kinds of love imo),
But I just dont think their relationship is something that has to be defined by them; because theirs is a friendship love that cannot possibly lead up to romantic love (Shinku, being as she is, a doll).
If however, as potatochobit put it, Shinku the Alice turns into a girl of 13... then romantic love is very possible. :naughty: Poor Tomoe. :(
@the.Merines - Oooo nice topic I wish I got into it a little earlier. I really like the points and views of both Lost and Mince :)
In regards to Tomoe, I don't think it is right to currently put her down as contender for a romantic relationship with Jun. I think that her concern for Jun stems from her not doing anything when he was being bullied. Maybe in the past when he was a top scorer she might have been wowed by him, but then seeing him go through a break down and go hermit crab on the world would not make for "wow that's sexy attribute"... Maybe in the future when she has really seen how much Jun has grown up.
Personally out of all the people surrounding Jun I think Shinku understands him the most and I can see their relationship blossoming because of that and the trust that is building up between the two.
If however, as potatochobit put it, Shinku the Alice turns into a girl of 13... then romantic love is very possible. :naughty: Poor Tomoe. :(
But if Shinku-sama (can't resist) did wish him into a doll, then it would fit the tea scene in the op. Also they as two dolls could make baby dolls together and by that I mean Jun could make them out of porcelein, not by some pervy method you may have been thinking of! :heh:
Rescued from page 2.
Lost, I didn't mean to call you out or anything. As with any conversation, different viewpoints are necessary, so I thank you. I was just being silly. I guess I had in mind a perfect love which culminates secretly between two people (or dolls) and grows through mutual bickering. Kind of...
Anyway I'm still curious if a Medium's dream world can affect a doll's heart. We know the owner of the dream can do whatever he sees fit (such as fixing a Rozen Maiden), but I'm still not convinced that Jun's inner desires maybe weren't played out in his dream world. It's true that Jun and Shinku are closer in Season2, but taking out the final episode of Season1, their growing relationship makes absolute sense. The final scene doesn't really fit in. This leaves me wondering if Shinku would be re-affected if she entered Jun's dream once again.
This is boiling down to getting your impressions so I can make a decision in my fanfiction... Writer's block is totally owning me right now. I know where I want to go, but I'm not sure if I can get there with a reasonably explanation.
Basically, he's speculating that Shinku's somewhat uncharacteristic direct admission of attachment to Jun might have been a product of her presence in his dream world, where his desires will influence reality.
I don't really buy it, myself. Heroic characters, animated and otherwise, are usually harder to affect in spirit than in body. I'd chalk it up more to a desire for resolution in the narrative in the event that there was no second season.
well i was always under the impression that it was Jun who was going to heal suigintou. if you remember she was left in his dream world when she orginally was defeated.
later on it was unclear if it was enju or rozen that fixed her, but it most likely seems to have been enju since barasuishou had her box. however, the possibility that Jun still did in fact help her be repaired unconsciouslly still exists as enju could have just collected her and the box and did the finishing touches.
remember, while shinku was in his dream world he was able to call forth his life thread to repair her arm. this could also have helped save suigintou without him knowing about it while he was outside of the world.
Well, we all know Jun has sometimes forgotten that the dolls are just that- dolls. He gets flustered when he walks in on them changing and starts to blush when he thinks about that moment. He also seems uncomfortable around Shinku while he works on her outfit (no eye contact).
In addition the dolls have been Jun's only form of social contact (except with Nori) for at least one term of school, which is three months I think.
OK. In Jun's dream world, its all cloudy and dark. Nori slaps him back to reality, and he sees Gin-sama rip off Shinku's arm. He does what most people would want to do for anyone close to them: stand up for them and protect what they treasure the most. Then he takes her away to a safe place and tries to console her. The sun comes out from behind the clouds. Finally, he's able to overcome his fears because his "devotion," I'll call it, overwhelms his fears.
In the end the enemy is defeated. Then Jun gets to see Shinku without her wall of aristocracy and manners, and she sits right next to him as he once again mends her clothing. But this time he really doesn't seem to mind the close contact. She tells him that he makes her happy. Finally, she allows him a very close, personal kind of contact that she even deems as "special."
Shinku says, "I know that my feelings for you will remain here. So don't forget, Jun," as she clasps her heart. Whether her feelings will remain in her heart or in Jun's dream world is the point I am hung up on. It's not important, of course, but I'm a curious cat.
I'm just saying, given the fact that Jun hasn't been around people for months, he's suddenly presented with the opportunity to do something positive for Shinku, in whatever capacity he appreciates/cherishes her. Now undoubtedly Suigintou would be beaten, but the things that happen (along with Shinku's subsequent less close, personal bevhavior in S2)... I know I'm reading too far into all this and they just added those lines so Shinku could act normally and they could include some of the manga storypoints in Season2, but isn't it interesting to believe that a human's dream can affect the dolls which are close to his/her heart?
Sorry, cant really comment entirely on your post, the.Merines, (but I'll think over it once my exams are done) however just wanted to say that the point above in the quote made me think that perhaps Shinku and the other dolls are being driven by the emotions of their medium; that is the "strength" they get from them. I think this because of the anthropomorphic tendency of humans, i.e. Shinku moves and talks because Jun assigns her emotions and human traits. Something like... like.. BARNEY. Yes, that purple dinosaur whos actually inanimate without the children. :heh: Forgive me, my neurons are shot. But nah not related at all to your point.
Ah, I'm just about to leave for the Festa.
Just came back from the TBS Anime Festa. Man, 6 and a half hours is way too long:heh:
Going to make this concise.
The Rozen Maiden feature started with Tanaka Rie sitting in front of a table, and pretending to be a radio show host for a make-believe program called Rozen Maiden Konya mo Ennui, answering questions in her Suigintou voice, which itself was pretty funny.
Following this was the introduction of the opening song and its anime sequence for the Rozen Maiden special episode.
The title is: Rozen Maiden Ouberture
Note there is an umlaut for the second u.
First of all, the opening song is by, yes, ALI PROJECT. The song starts off slow, and picks up as it progresses, into the intricate yet smooth type of music they are known for.
As for the trailer, the artwork is simply beautiful. Much more detailed than either series in my opinion.
But the most important thing is, this episode is centered on Suigintou, as she comprises the majority of the characters from the opening scenes.
Coupled with the appearance of Tanaka Rie and the title of the episode, Suigintou fans will have something to look for.
This special episode Rozen Maiden Ouberture is set to air this coming winter.
eggplant, such wonderful news! Thank you!
!!!!!! :D :D Thank you very much for the news, eggplant. Is one cookie enough to last 6 hours? :D So its a one episode OVA? Any idea how long it will be? The usual 22 minutes, 30, or, hopefully.. 1 hour? :D Thank you again. Interesting if this episode develops on Gin and the (manga) medium she killed. :heh:
Yeah, now we have to speculate as to what the special will concentrate on... Gin's past, Gin and Megu, Gin and Kira... or just Gin-sama being Gin-sama.
Lost, good luck on your exams!
So, no full season? Oh, well. Not like I'm going to complain about a Suigintou centric special.:D
hmmmm.. unfortunatly we do not get a Third Season (yet ^^).., and the OVA is no more then a single episode.., on this prespective it is a bit of a downside.., as we will again have to wait more time to see the final developments in the story..., and.. to have many of our questions & speculations placed to the test ;)
However.., I belive the news are still pretty good.., for if anything that is worthy of an OVA Episode is Gin and Gin alone :D
Hence.., its realy not need for me to say that.., no new Season.., but we are getting the next best thing !
And.. much like everyone else.., I now can't wait to see it..; the artwork must realy be.. outstanding to say the least.
And after all.., Its about Gin :D
I wonder in what aspects they will focus it on.., what aspects will they choose to develop.., and in the end.. if it is going to be even more darker then any of the episodes in ~Traumend~ where.. (which is something I hope aswell).
Anyway.., eggplant.. You deserve a cookiee from everyone here for posting this.., you realy do ;)
i personally dont really like OVA shows. a set of 3 OVAs would be nice, but just one random episode might not be a good thing. reminds me of all the bad ranma1/2 OVAs that have been released over the years. stratos4 OVAs were good though, so the rozen maiden one could be done good too.
Fifth Thorn: Sturm von Gefühlen
A loud clap of thunder caused Suiseiseki to shudder a little. She’d always hated thunderstorms, and even though she was surrounded by her sisters she still felt afraid. It was embarrassing but there were far more important matters at hand. She sat between her twin sister and Hina-ichigo on Jun’s red couch. Shinku was at the kitchen table, sipping her tea as usual. Nori was away for a lacrosse match at another school. Jun had remained up in his room all day, refusing to be social at all.
It was a tense atmosphere. Both Souseiseki and Suiseiseki had suffered humiliating defeats at the hand of Suigintou. The casualties had been their artificial spirits, Lempicka and Jade Dream. As a repeat episode of “Detective Kun-kun” played on the television, none of the dolls spoke a word. Hina was confused by this fact but had enough common sense to follow suit and keep quiet. She concentrated on the show, tightly hugging the plush Kun-kun she had borrowed from Shinku. Neither Suiseiseki nor Souseiseki paid the show much attention; their thoughts were in other places.
Shinku sighed quietly. Hina’s black tea, though better than Nori’s, still had much room for improvement. ‘Suigintou… Just what has that child been planning all this time? And where does her Medium fit in? Souseiseki and Suiseiseki both said that she didn’t seem to draw any power from him. They were just surprised…’ She was inwardly saddened that Suigintou had stooped so low as to steal her sisters’ artificial spirits. Of course she would not have done such a thing for no reason. Soon, she would enter someone’s dream for her own personal gain.
Who that person or doll would be- that was the question on everyone’s mind. Except Jun’s, that is. The reason for his isolation was unknown to everyone except Shinku, and she wasn’t about to reveal something so insignificant.
All of a sudden, the power went out in the Sakurada’s neighborhood. All of the lights in the house went out in an instant, the TV going blank. Hina-ichigo screamed out in fright. Suiseiseki did as well, but hers was cut short when she realized what was happening. Souseiseki continued to stare forward, not focusing on anything in particular. Shinku jumped down from her chair and approached the couch.
“Goodness, Hina-ichigo, be silent!” she demanded. “It’s a simple power outage.”
“B-b-b-but it’s so dark ~na no! I’m scared, Shinku!” The only time the dolls could see each other was during the brief periods of light provided by lightning. “I can’t see anything!” Suiseiseki, in order to relieve her own fears, slowly leaned over and put her mouth to Hina’s ear.
“Boo ~desu!” Hina jumped over a meter into the air and came down on her stomach.
“That’s mean, Suiseiseki!” came the angry reply after Hina had caught her breath.
“Now is not the time to be playing games. Both of you will be quiet this instant!” Shinku exclaimed, obviously frustrated. “All we can do is wait for the power to be restored. Yelling won’t make that come any more quickly.”
“Hey, are all of you OK down there?” Jun asked from upstairs.
“Jun, come down here at once,” replied Shinku in her usual demanding way. Jun silently complied. Since he’d lived in this house for all his life, getting down the staircase in complete darkness was easy. Well, it should have been. Somehow, a sudden clap of thunder distracted him. Incidentally, the doorbell rang just after the cacophony of thunder died away. Because of his state of mind from being alone in his room all day, combined with the distraction he felt from the strong thunder, Jun’s brain momentarily lapsed from walking down the stairs… to walking on a flat surface.
Three steps from the bottom, Jun fell forward and landed on his face on the floor. “Jun? Jun!” the dolls cried.
“I’m OK… Geez, who would be coming here during such a bad thunder storm?” he growled as he stood. He opened the door just a crack, but the force of the wind shoved it all the way open to reveal a tall young man. “Ohba-san?” Jun asked, absolutely confused.
Surely enough, Tsugumi stood at his doorstep, umbrella in hand but still quite wet. His face was pale, and his eyes had an odd quality to them that Jun couldn’t quite identify. “I’m sorry for the intrusion, Jun-kun,” he stated emotionlessly. Jun continued staring at him for a long moment before realizing that the windswept rain was getting him wet as well.
“Oh! Um, it’s no problem. Come in.”
“Thank you.” He stepped inside and closed the door behind him.
“You should be more careful. Carrying an umbrella during a lightning storm is dangerous,” Jun cautioned, not mentioning the fact that no sane person should be walking around outside in such a storm anyway.
“Hm,” the older boy replied as he removed his shoes. Jun was slowly sobering from the stupor he’d been stuck in.
‘Hopefully those dolls realize what’s going on… Who knows if this is part of their plan? Suigintou could sweep in at any time and take advantage of the situation. Best to keep my guard up,’ Jun surmised.
“Before I say anything else, I should mention that I’m not here for the Alice Game,” Tsugumi coldly stated, as if reading Jun’s mind. “The power’s out all over this side of the city.” He pulled two flashlights out of his jacket and handed one to Jun, who readily accepted it. He turned it on and quickly turned the beam of light on the living room while Tsugumi concentrated on taking off his shoes and jacket. The dolls were still sitting in the same spots. He waved his hand at them, trying to tell them to move out of sight. Hina-ichigo waved back while Suiseiseki smiled sheepishly and shrugged. There really wasn’t anywhere for them to go, short of running through the darkness to the storage room and entering an n-Field.
However, the light emitted then would be clearly visible down the hallway. “Suigintou sends her… apologies,” Tsugumi stated with dry sarcasm.
“Y-you should apologize, you sneaky human ~desu!” Suiseiseki yelled, her brain working before she realized that he was being sarcastic. Her sister and Hina reached over and covered her mouth, but it was too late. Shinku shook her head in disgust. “What? He should apologize to us! He and that damned Suigintou stole our artificial spirits ~desu!” exclaimed the muffled doll.
“She didn’t steal them; you gave them up. Although it took a bit of coercion…” retorted Tsugumi as he closed in on the dolls’ position. Suiseiseki let out an ‘eek!’ and jumped behind Souseiseki. His silhouette, which appeared only when lightning struck, was enough to scare Hina-ichigo as well, but all she could do was shiver where she sat, too scared to move any more. However, Tsugumi turned slightly and walked behind the couch, approaching Shinku instead. “You… You must be Shinku,” he said frigidly. Shinku turned and stood on the chair, although she was still a good bit shorter than Tsugumi.
“I am Shinku, fifth doll of the Rozen Maiden,” she replied in her usual calm tone. The two stared at each other in the darkness for an uncomfortably long moment, as if trying to judge each other. Finally, Tsugumi held the remaining flashlight out to her. She slowly reached out and took it in her small hands. She pushed the switch to the ‘on’ position, but nothing happened.
“Oh, I guess I forgot the batteries.” He reached into his left pocket, producing two D batteries. He held out his left hand towards Shinku, palm up. She reached out to grab them, but a flash of lightning revealed his hand’s complete contents. Tsugumi allowed a small grin to creep onto his face, the rose on his ring beginning to glow bright purple. In his hand were the two necessary batteries, but along with them was a single black feather. Jun stepped up behind him.
“Hey, what do you mean by this? Ohba-san?” he asked angrily.
“What I mean to say, is this message from Suigintou. Shinku,” he said, his tone perfectly emulating the way Suigintou spoke when referring to her younger sister, “the easiest thing for you to do is give up your Rosa Mystica.” Once more, Shinku was shocked by the way he acted just like Suigintou when he wanted to, but kept this emotion hidden. This was a dangerous game.
“As a Medium, you should know that no Rozen Maiden would ever willingly give away her Rosa Mystica,” Shinku responded with a touch of venom.
“Of course- that’s what I expected you to say. Well, in that case, I’ll take my leave of you. You may keep the flashlights as gifts,” he said as he returned to the front door. The dolls were all too shocked by the human’s strange actions to speak as Tsugumi put on his shoes and jacket. “Sleep well, everyone!” he said in a sickeningly sweet voice before leaving.
“That jerk! What kind of mind games is he trying to play?” Jun exclaimed, obviously exasperated. “And you dolls! Why didn’t you try and hide at all? What if he’d just been distracting you while Suigintou came in through the mirror?”
“Who is the fool who let him into the house ~desu?” Suiseiseki shot back. “Chibi-human, it’s your fault! I-if anything had happened… Oh, if only you weren’t such a good-for-nothing runt of a human! Even that Ohba-san is a better Medium than you ~desu!” Hina-ichigo suddenly became confused.
“Ohba-san… obaasan?” she wondered out loud, seeing images of the tall, scary human boy next to an old woman. Suiseiseki reached above Hina’s head and waved her hand furiously, destroying the thought cloud.
“Don’t daydream at a critical time like this ~desu!” she shrieked with frustration. Souseiseki remained silent on the couch, as if nothing had happened at all. Shinku jumped down from the chair and joined her sisters at the couch.
“In any case, this is a warning to us all,” she explained. “He did not have any purpose of coming her except to confirm that Suigintou will use Lempicka and Jade Dream. In fact, since that child was not with him, he may have come of his own accord.”
“You mean… He wanted to give us that warning… as kind of a helping hand?” Jun asked, confused by that realization. Shinku nodded. “Why would he do such a thing?”
…
Later that night, after the storm ended and the power had been restored, Souseiseki pulled Shinku aside. “Shinku… that boy… Tsugumi. What do you think of him?” Souseiseki asked, serious as usual.
“He’s truly an unusual human. The way he acts so perfectly similar to Suigintou is almost frightening,” Shinku responded slowly. “His actions otherwise are questionable as well.” Souseiseki nodded.
“I’m sure that he was wiping away tears as Suigintou fought against us. And now he’s come to confirm what we feared. What are his goals? Why is he doing these kinds of things?” she wondered.
“Maybe… just a little… He’s like Jun.”
“Like Jun-kun?” Souseiseki questioned. “That heartless human is?”
“Jun… He somehow has the power to draw us to him… Holie couldn’t have been more correct by choosing him as my Medium. Even though he’s coarse and uncivilized, all of the Rozen Maiden who live at this house become bound to him. In the same way, he is becoming bound to us. On both sides, the feelings are intrinsic- we somehow feel them automatically. I believe… although it may be one-sided, Tsugumi feels the same way. It’s unfortunate that he made a Contract with Suigintou before any of us, but this is the situation,” Shinku explained.
Somehow her words made sense to Souseiseki. “Shinku… Is it possible that… Jun and Tsugumi… The legend of the Maestro… Could one of them be a Maestro?” The blond doll sighed heavily.
“I can’t be sure. It’s too early to be thinking of such a powerful force. Surely, the appearance of a Maestro would be a sign from Father that he wishes for the Alice Game to begin.” Souseiseki looked away from her companion, her eyes narrowing. “But don’t get to excited. There are still two more dolls which would have to awaken before the Alice Game can start.”
“I guess you’re right.”
---
Tsugumi sat alone in his apartment. It had been three days since he had been introduced to the world of the n-Field, three days since he had returned to this very place alone. Where Suigintou was, or why she hadn’t returned with him, were mysteries. ‘Perhaps she was just too disgusted by the way I acted back then… She has every right to be. I can provide her with power whether I am by her side or not. But Jun and Shinku… Their connection, their bond, although not obvious, is so strong.’
He paid no attention to the distant thunder. It had been raining a lot recently. His bills were beginning to pile up on his desk, covering the books he had been studying so intensely. Now it almost seemed like a waste. If he couldn’t be of use to Suigintou, what was the point of all this? It was at that exact moment that he had up his mind. He wrote himself a small note, an address, and crawled into bed. He fell asleep almost immediately; after all, he hadn’t slept in the past three days, either.
His mirror began to glow, revealing the vast white rose garden of Kirakishou. On the outcropping of rock she sat, wearing a smile worthy of a Hollywood star. She watched patiently with her single eye, looking at his apartment. Suigintou wasn’t present, once again. Kirakishou giggled just a little as the mirror faded back to normal.
…
Tsugumi had waited patiently all day, though the time wore by incredibly slowly for him. He’d placed himself on his sister’s route home from school, meaning to intercept her. He had used the same route in his youth, so it was nostalgic for him. Tomoe saw him as he sat there from quite a distance- he stuck out like a sore thumb in between all the middle-school kids. She approached him silently and took a seat next to him.
The two were quite similar, really, despite what they thought of each other. “Mother and father said you were fired from your job,” Tomoe stated quietly, but not without a certain sense of boldness.
“I can’t deny that,” was her older brother’s only response.
“I’m worried.”
“About what?” Their conversations had never been too exciting, but the two had a deep understanding of each other, so not much more was ever necessary. Others may have called such a way of talk ‘boring’ or ‘dry,’ but it was simply a behavior which was passed down from their parents.
“Sakurada told me you’ve been causing trouble for the other Rozen Maiden.”
“Not really.” There was a long moment of silence as the two stared out into space. “Our parents… Do they ask anything else about me?”
“They wonder why you’re using a different surname, and they wonder where you’re living. Most recently, they wonder how you are making a living without a job.” Tsugumi sighed. All the money he had been setting aside for college- that was his only source of money, and it was disappearing. The reason he had moved was because of his parent’s greed… Rather than send him to the prestigious university he had been accepted to, they took expensive vacations and embellished themselves.
“The answers are all too obvious,” he said, a bit of anger creeping into his voice. “Let’s forget about them for now. There’s someplace I want you to accompany me to,” Tsugumi added, smiling at his younger sister. “To be honest I was too embarrassed to go alone.” Tomoe’s eyes widened slightly. Her brother had never been afraid to do as he pleased.
“Really?” He nodded. “Let’s go. You’ve made me curious. And… Don’t worry. I won’t tell mama and papa I was with you.”
Only a few blocks from the middle school was their destination. Realization dawned upon Tomoe as she read the awning above the corner business.
‘Enju Doll.’
“You were embarrassed to walk into a doll store without a girl.” She giggled quietly. “How childish.”
“Be quiet,” he sheepishly rebutted. “What kind of college-age guy walks into a doll store alone? It would be too unsightly… In any case I heard the doll-maker here is the best in the city, maybe even the whole country. I get the impression that he’s a foreigner, though.” The two entered the store. Tsugumi made sure to hold the door for his sister so she had to enter first. A bell rang as the door was opened.
“Good afternoon,” Tomoe called to no one in particular.
“Just a moment!” came a reply from the back room. The siblings took a look at the dolls on display. They were all the same style as the Rozen Maidens, but there was some indefinable difference. “Ah, welcome!” Tomoe opened her mouth to greet the man, but Tsugumi stepped in front of her.
“Are you Enju?” he asked quickly. The other man, who looked only a few years older than Tsugumi, looked confused. His hair was parted down the center, and a pair of small reading glasses framed his thin eyes.
“Oh, me? No; I’m Shirosaki, the shopkeeper-“
“Enju- is he here? I want to speak with him…” he trailed off as Shirosaki shook his head.
“I’m sorry, but he isn’t here right now.”
“Then perhaps you can help me. Is there a way…? Can Enju… Let’s see, how can I put this…” Shirosaki looked on in complete confusion. “I have a doll which is very special to me, a one-of-a-kind doll. When she… There was an accident and her torso was badly damaged. I want to know if a replacement can be created without having the doll present, and if there is a way that I could fix her myself.”
The shopkeeper nodded slowly as he absorbed the information. “Ah, it’s nice to hear you talk like that, as if you’re begging a nurse to find a doctor who can help a sick family member,” the man replied, perhaps with a little too much pathos. “But I’m afraid that would be impossible. There is no way anyone besides an accomplished doll-maker could ever hope to fix such a doll. In addition if the doll is such a rare creation, then the original doll-maker may be the only one who could attempt to fix her.”
The bell above the door rang once more. Tsugumi turned to find a blond man, even taller than he was. “Enju, welcome back!” happily exclaimed Shirosaki. Enju met Tsugumi’s gaze coldly.
“Who are they?” he asked, as if they weren’t standing right there. Tomoe stepped up this time.
“I’m sorry, but we hadn’t introduced ourselves yet. I’m Kashiwaba Tomoe, and this is my brother Tsugumi. Nice to meet you,” she said with a bow. Enju continued his staring contest with Tsugumi, neither of them showing any sign of backing down. Finally Enju diverted his eyes to the younger man’s hands. Confirming his suspicions, the younger one was wearing black driving gloves.
‘So… this one is a Medium. This is sooner than expected.’ Enju silently walked past the pair and into the shop’s back room. Tsugumi, now absolutely fuming inside, decided it was better to leave than to try and confront the doll-maker.
“Tsugumi,” his sister called as he walked out the door.
“Oh no, that didn’t go very well,” Shirosaki said with a sigh. “Well, Kashiwaba-san, don’t let it bother you too much. Your brother seems to have a very strong personality, just like this shop’s owner.”
In the orange evening sunlight, Tsugumi lie on his bed. ‘So, despite all the research I did… I can’t fix her. There’s nothing I can do for her, nothing I can do to ease the pain associated with that imperfection. Damnit… If only I could have, maybe she… If she wasn’t so caught up in becoming the perfect girl, maybe she would go easier on the others. But I’m powerless. I can’t do a thing. What a useless Medium I am.’
He rolled over onto his side and looked at her case. It was probably empty. He felt suddenly drained and pulled the covers over his head. He was asleep before he had any more time to lament the issue.
His mirror began to warp, once more revealing Kirakishou. This time, however, her target was not Suigintou. It was her Medium. She giggled playfully as rose vines grew out from under Tsugumi’s bed, slowly entangling his unmoving body. ‘This is… like catching fish in a barrel… or something like that,’ Kirakishou thought with glee.
…
Meanwhile, at Enju Doll, the blond doll-maker was wearing a happy smile. Before him stood his own creation, Barasuishou. “Father… when?” He looked down at her lavender dress, her white hair, her eyepatch… They were all beautiful to him.
“Very soon, Barasuishou. The pieces are already in motion.” His mind wandered to the boy who had appeared in his shop earlier in the day. His eyes… He had the same eyes as that man. The eyes that saw past reality to the limitless unknowns, while at the same time disregarding all which was considered impossible. ‘Rozen… You had that same blank and stupid-looking gaze. You loved those dolls more than anything else… You spent every moment of your life pouring everything you had into their creation.
‘And though they were so special to you, you took me on as an apprentice. You wanted to create Alice but failed. As your apprentice it’s my responsibility to clean up the mess you left. You abandoned the dolls you loved so much, hoping that one day they would just become Alice through some kind of brutal game. I’ll create Alice as you wanted, but she will be made from my own doll. Alice will be mine. I’ll finally be able to call myself the greatest doll-maker ever. The legendary Rozen Maiden… what a joke. Barasuishou will make them look like the toys they are.’
Although he had forgotten through the vast rifts of time, Barasuishou was actually a stolen design. Rozen always created the doll’s body and its Rosa Mystica as separate entities, not wishing one to contaminate the other before he was ready for the doll to live. Just a day before the final Maiden was to be connected to its Rosa Mystica, Enju stole her body and its designs.
Over the years the doll’s body degraded. By the time Enju had created and matured his own kind of Rosa Mystica, the doll’s body needed to be replaced. So using the methods taught to him by Rozen, he created Barasuishou and destroyed the aging design. Little did he know, Rozen had already begun to fuse the two parts together. The Rosa Mystica, as time passed, grew into the true seventh doll. She was a doll without a body and existed only in the magical realm of the n-Fields and dream worlds.
Barasuishou and Kirakishou: two dolls who shared a design. One doll was completely devoted to her Father, who was not Rozen but an imposter. The other, if she was a human, would have been considered a complete psychopath. The many years spent alone in her lonely world, only able to watch her sisters live full lives, had driven her mad. Only recently had Laplace’s Demon began to visit her. It was a signal, a signal from Father.
The Alice Game would soon begin.
End of Fifth Thorn.
As for Hina’s daydream comparing Tsugumi to an old woman, Ohba is the last name he adopted and –san is an honorable suffix. Obaasan means an old or unfamiliar woman. They are very close in pronunciation. It's my pathetic attempt to add in some of the Japanese word puns which were used in the series. The chapter's title means 'Storm of Emotions,' which you may interpret as you may.
The story is becoming quite complicated now. I’m surprised at how many levels of conflict I’ve been able to shove into this story. Hopefully you’re all enjoying it, because I’m really enjoying writing this. Ja ne!
